Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. I didn't know which was gonna break first,
Your spirit, your buddy, Oh no, no, My spirit's absolutely
breaking first, absolutely breaking first. You know, there's losses where
that I've had to go through in my life in sports,
(00:51):
where I know my life changed because of it. Like
I brought it up a few minutes ago. This gets
into the Knicks lost tonight to the to the Pacers
eight thirty five overtime, a game in which teams leading
by nine points with fifty seconds left in the game.
Since the mid nineties when they started keeping track, were
one four hundred and fourteen wins and zero losses.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Gotta love that that doesn't even include the thirty years
before they started paying attention.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Until tonight, until tonight. There's certain losses that I know
just changed me as a fan, changed me as a fan, like, Okay,
I'm wound too tight or I just have to unplug.
And you know I mentioned why not talk about the
worst losses? And you know that I've had to go
through the last few years. I talked about that loss.
The Jets lost a playoff game to the Steelers in
(01:39):
two thousand and six.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
That's never made.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
That's how long ago that millennials are like, what the
Jets in the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Are you kidding me? A long long time ago.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
They lost a playoff game in six to the Steelers
in which they missed two field goals in the final
two minutes of regulation and lost in overtime. Doug Brown
missed a forty five yard field goal, and then they
intercepted Roethlisberger, and then Brian missed another forty four yard
field goal, where the Jets decided, we're not going to
(02:11):
throw the football, We're just gonna try to run and
kick a field goal. He missed two field goal first
time ever in the history of the NFL that a
team missed two field goals in the final minute of
regulation lost a game, right, first time that's happened.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Well, at least breaking.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
And when that happened, that loss, like I know, that
loss broke something in me with the Jets, and I realized,
you know what, I just I can't hold on like
this anyway. I can't hold on like this anymore. They're
gonna kill me like that. And a few years later
they killed Carl.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
So I didn't kill Carl. Okay, they killed Carl, damn right,
they did, no sin Safarian Jikins completed the catch.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I don't know what you're talking about legitimately, Like this
is why for the years we've been on airon this
is year eleven, and we're blessed to keep doing it
and hopefully for many years more, educating and forming, entertaining,
in raging, engaging all of that stuff with our global audience,
your fandom. I'm jealous of the highs that you have
(03:06):
with it, but I sure as hell don't miss those lows,
like I experienced losses for my Chicago teams, and there's
plenty of them.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
I'm wearing a socks jersey and a three to one
to two hat as we're sitting here at the studio.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
I know losses.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Oh boy, I know losses, but I don't get to
that level of despair anymore. Like I gave up on that,
like just too many of them and way too many
real serious things in real life.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Well but that's it. I mean, we can celebrated the life.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
And career of George Went yesterday, many many angry moments
to where you know, maybe you did.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Hit a wall. Literally you hit a wall. It does
not work over your hands very well, Jason, let me
tell you.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
But this is one of those laws that is going
to break me as a Knicks fan, Like I need
to be a different fan after this, Oh after watching
the Pacers come back when the Knicks are up by
fourteen with two point fifty left to go in the game,
up until teams up by fourteen with two point fifty
or less left to go in the game. Up until
(04:13):
this point, since the mid nineties, they've been keeping track
nine hundred and seventy seven to zero.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
These are now indelibly I'm always gonna remember.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
I mean, he's won't play nine to seventy seven in
the power Ball right, like, like that's what It was
a fourteen point lead and you had Nie Smith making
six threes in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
He was insane.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
A guy that never makes shots like this had one
thirty point game the entire year of a thirty point game.
The Knicks missing free throws down the stretch. All Karl
Anthony Towns are oganna, noob. We had to do was
hit a free throw each of them in the final
twenty seconds. They both missed, which left the door open. Right,
Halliburton hits the jumper. That is a miracle shot that
bounces off the back of the iron and goes up
(04:56):
eight feet in the air and comes down cleanly through
the basket. He does the choke jester. He does the
Regi Miller choke jester again. This is a highlight that's
already I know is going to live forever in the
annals of the NBA. We're gonna be watching this highlight
for the next fifty years, right, We are just like
the Regi Miller highlight from the mid nineties, and we're
gonna watch it. That was that was amazing enough. It
(05:18):
gets called back to a two. So now the Pacers
have to come back thinking they won the game. Nope,
doesn't matter. The Knicks can't close out in overtime and
Obi toppin former Nick who they said, ah, we don't
have room for you, hits two large dunks in the
final forty seconds to win the game for them, like
the again, like this this game is one of those
where oh, in my head, like a Synaps's breaking or
(05:40):
in uh in Wayne's world when he goes maybe that
movie Scanners and the guy's head just explodes, like something
like that happened in my head, where I said, I
I can't hold on like that.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
I can't hold on like that. Oh.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
We were sitting here watching watching this sunfold right up fourteen.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
We're talking to Jason Cole.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
We're talking about the legacy and life of Jim or
say passed away at sixty five.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
You've got the owners meetings and.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Tabling, this rule change, talking about this change on side kicks,
all this other stuff, and he would just in the
middle of an answer, go now it's five point game.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Now it's a two point game.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
And I can see you shift in your seat just
a little bit, like you're you're doing everything you can
to just be like all right, Cole, finish your answer.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Stop talking about the game. Let's talk about football.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
He we're gonnam Bart metalize this, But the whole time
it's like, all right, stop, there's another three point shot and.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
You can just see you, you know, tense up a
little bit.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
At that point, I was mad that I'm just gonna
have to sweat this out when I should and fourteen
point lead, two and a half left in the game's over,
but instead, no, I gotta sweat this out. And then
when we finished and Monsey was doing what's trending, I said,
this room is bad luck. I'm going in the other
room to watch the recD. Yeah, room was no better.
The control room with Frostburg and Tyshirt was no better.
It was notted onto the old studio. I mean those
(06:59):
TVs they're still on Winning studio. If it gone further,
I was going into Manci's update studio, whether she want
to be in.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
There or not. I'm staying here to watch the rest
of shot him. I need.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Remember because he did turn on you. He took the
chair to the back of the head. I'm sure this
game went on. I'm sure you did, but I really
I need this is I I I I don't know what.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
How about you be a man who burned the tape
and move on to game two. I can't yet. Man,
We're on the Cincinnati Boyant. I can't do it. I've
broken man, you broke me. You want you want to know?
You win? You what you guys?
Speaker 4 (07:37):
What I love?
Speaker 3 (07:39):
It's only game one, game two Friday nights. You're gonna
stand there like a bum like I'm at that and
not swing. He's standing around and burning up. This is
where the.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Garbage can this sing and take me back? This is
where dude, no, no, no, dude. If I'm Rocky, I'm
at the point in Rocky three where I need to win.
I need a pole come in and go Yeah, I'm
gonna I'm gonna you up and carry you up, and
then you're gonna owe me a favor at the end.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (08:03):
It's okay history. I need Apollo to come and tell me, Hey,
I got you. Man, I'll pick you back up because
I'm on the ground right now. Man, I'm on the ground.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
You're hoping that it ends with you in that awkward
hug in the water after the race on the beach,
Well that's what you're hope.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
And at the end, I'm Eddie Murphy. The beginning of
training place where he picked me up out of the
Park and say, hey, we're gonna make you a million.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
All right, great, I'm low man, I'm low. I really
love your usual bet one dollar.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Now.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
We'll have more on this game coming up in a fee.
I need a five minute break to talk about something
big from the NBA today that I loved that you
love I love today.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
I love today.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
I love today, Shay Gildess Alexander winning the MVP because
the MVP, and I've talked about this for a long time,
the MVP is not just simply who had the best
year in the league statistically.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
It's not you'll, Kitch wins three out of the last
four MVP.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
But you know what, Yeah, the Nuggets have been a
nice fifty to fifty five win team in the Western
Conference the last five years, and I won the title, right, Okay, great,
But during the regular season, the MVP is not Player
of the Year right now, and hey, and I've said,
the best thing that the Major League Baseball in the
NBA can do is say we're gonna have a Player
of the Year and an MVP. So that way we're
(09:21):
gonna reward somebody with the Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant
Player of the Year award where, hey, you had such
a great year, dominant on the court, statistically, you're the
player of the Year. But the MVP you gotta lead
your team to something. And I've watched four years in
a row NICOLEA. Jokicic play that great and it's still
a fit. They're a fifty to fifty five win team,
which is good. But shake Gildess. Alexander also had a
(09:43):
pretty record breaking year this year, doing things that we've
never seen done. Right, Jokic with the triple double app Yeah,
I get it, and I'm not saying anything bad about Jolkic,
but Gildess Alexander leaves the Thunder to first place in
the conference, and they're the best team in the NBA.
That's the MVP. That's the MVP, not Player of the Year.
That's the MVP. So I was happy that he won
(10:05):
because I felt, okay, this time the voters rewarded the
guy that actually led his team to heights in the
regular season. Right when Steph Curry they were talking about
Steph Curry for the MVP like three years ago, when
he's having a great year, I'm like, they're seventh in
the Western Conference. Man, you gotta finish higher than that.
If you're gonna be the MVP, you're a great player.
But I'm telling you, if you're great, you should finish higher. Right,
(10:27):
Lebron had the Cavaliers. They had a bunch of stiffs
he was playing with, and they're the top of the
Eastern Conference for the most time when he was there.
But like, if you're the MVP, you gotta lead your
team to son. You can't just say, hey, I'm having
a great year for my team. Okay, that's not the
most Valuable player.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
That's not.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
I was surprised there was seventy one twenty nine. We
talked about it with Rick Buker a little bit. You'll
be able to find that in the podcast.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
That was the next League tonight over the Paces in
the fourth quarter with seventy one twenty nine.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
It's gonna get worse as the time goes on. It's
gonna be one hundred and forty two to twelve. It's
gonna be sounded like the super fans kits that we're
talking about last night with the passing of George went
But for Shay Gilger Alexander right sixty eight wins. You
could argue depth of squad because for many in going
(11:11):
back to Michael Malone before he flopped because he wanted
totroll Denver and Yokic like he did yesterday. We talked
about that find that in the podcast We Love to Lead.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
As we do.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
He was ardent about it, right, saying, ten out of ten,
you'd take these numbers, and for Jokic it was every
bit as good or better than anything done. Problem is
he already won three times, yeah, which means it's gonna
be the.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
All right, I like it, but you know what, SGA,
new star, new opportunity, Oklahoma City gets to add another
MVP to their trophy case, all.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Of these things. So he moves on.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
So he goes first, Jokich second, gets all the rest
of the first place vote seventy one twenty nine, Giannis
finished his third. Then you have Tatum Mitchell and Lebron James.
Your Nicks don't even place man, not even close. No,
Jalen runs in love. I mean they split the vote
that that much, mam.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
But I'm okay with that because SGA got all the votes,
got seven out of ten votes right inside of ten votes.
He should because who led their team? He did, right,
he did Donovan Mitchell had a great year. But you
know what, Look, the Cavaliers offense is phenomen right, they
go one through the best offense in the league. Right,
he was the best player on a really good team.
(12:31):
SGA is the envy. He did stuff that was by
far and away. Look, I was okay with that, because
what did the Knicks do with Brunson? Yeah they were
they were a three seeds. That's great, a nice fifty
to fifty five win team in the regular season. That's
what it is. SGA was more than that.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Yeah, Like I said, I really thought the the SGA
Jokic thing would be a little closer.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Did they get it right? Sure?
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Because now you've got a new hero, You've got a
new star that you're building. Now, we'll see the backlash
next year. How do you top it? Right, even if
you win the title whatever, you're going for another you
got thirty points a game, and you've got the narrative
now swirling around you in terms.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Of how your stats were padded with bogus Fohn calls.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
So that you've gotten all on, go back to just
game one yesterday. Man, this is Bruger film. Here's a pushoff,
but it's an A and one all the way through,
but he gets the MVP and moving on. Nikola Jokic's
back with his horses.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
He's happy, exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome,
happy for it. Now there's a great fun hot take
I have on it as well. We'll get to that
coming up.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Boom.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Plus, we're gonna get to do something unbelievably fun surrounding this.
Patrick Johnson, this is what's called the t's in our business.
Mike Carmen, a tip.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Fine magic. Johnson is a tweeting fool. Following the Pacers
victory over the Knicks. We'll get to play. We'll get
to play that coming up next, right here, Jason and
Mike Fox Sports Radio.

I need something fun because I am I am losing it.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
I'm all about having fun. I am. I am at
the end, I am breaking speaking of fun. Did you
see Clark's tweet? No? I didn't. What did she say?
Are the greatest comeback team she's ever seen? And the
Pacers had this comeback and she didn't even play.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
She stole that from Scott Shapiro because he said Wolves
are the best. She just kind of elaborator. Yeah, I'm
really I I need I need. I need one of those.
You know, we forget about the twenty second time out
to get the full time out. I need like a
timeout that lasted day. Really, I really, I mean it.
People who live, people who live in the in cabins
in the woods by.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Themselves and shut themselves off of good movie, the.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Modern you know, the modern world, and loving sports like
I'm envious of them right now.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Oh there's sports going on. What's happening?
Speaker 1 (16:33):
I don't even know. I'm envious of them. Oh really
yeah sports? Oh yeah, yes, there's sports happening.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
I'm envious of them. I don't like to go do
that and live in the wood. That's preseason.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
Oh dude, I I what are sports ty shirt?
Speaker 3 (16:47):
I envy you in moments like you should. I mean it.
I mean I.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
I don't know if I could get into the the
Pokemon and the and the and the animes and the
studio Ghibli and make that like life and death like
I do with sports.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
No, I've never I'm willing to try, and we want
to try.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
I've never heard it actually come out of his mouth,
but this quote is often attributed to Tom Hardy, So
we get bane in program.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Sure. Quote.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Being alone for a while is dangerous. It's addicting what
you see, how peaceful it is. You don't want to
deal with people anymore.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Ah, I subscribe to that theory.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
I'd sign up for his newsletter. Take a deep breath.
Sounds like a great a great life man Jay's late life. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (17:27):
Just don't put all your eggs in the basket of
people you can't control.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
No, my problem is the teams. Like the people, you
can control the teams.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
I picked our teams that I tell how about you
pick teams are just gonna break you?
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Bet?
Speaker 1 (17:38):
For most of your life I should have been I
should have been I need it, man. But growing up like,
and here's the thing, right, here's the thing. My entire
family in Staten Island, right, growing up, my entire family Yankees. No, no, no, no,
no no. My dad Yankee fan. We were all Mets fans. Right,
that's the one good thing is we were all Mets fans.
My dad Yankee fan, of course. And he's the guy
I still gotta get text me every day. Look at Soto,
he's nu SWI get at pitches now, thanks Dad. I
(18:02):
was my grandfriend and I were the Jets fans. The rest
of my family was all Giants fans.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
They won.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
My entire family that I grew up with, all my uncles,
they were all Celtics fans, all Celtics fans because in
the seventies at well, they grew up in the eighties
and my uncle, my main uncle, went to Indiana State,
so of course Larry Bird, he's a Celtics fan. My
other uncle, Larry Bird, Celtics fan. So the two main
(18:26):
people that love basketball and my immediate family were Celtics fans.
Of course, then their kids became Celtics fans, so they're
all Celtics fans. So I was living high in the
hog a few days ago. I'm like, yeah, yeah, Now
I can't even look at my phone. I can't look
at my phone after tonight because I know they're wait
staying up.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Lake going oh yeah I was Jason with a Celtics. Yeah. Yeah,
I can't do it, man.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
I want to throw my phone in the ocean. I
want to throw in the ocean and say goodbye. I
can't really this loss, man. Yeah, but they would suck
right now because you can just laugh and say we
beat you.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Sent you down.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
It doesn't matter, man, hurt your star, I mean you
could really doesn't matter. But this is where one of
the few times that's saying, you know what, you can
put out your Jason Tatum gifts just to get back
at him.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
It doesn't matter. That's how you respond.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
It's low, man. I have not been this low. Maybe
I don't know. Was I this low? And Rogers got hurt?
But we won that game, but man, no, this was
this is about his low low now.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
Rogers getting hurt. Yeah, Rogers was terrible.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Because you reminded me of a guy when I when
I was in college, I had a guy that lived
in the hall.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
One of our buddies was a big Phillies fan. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Who after Mitch Williams served up the home run to
Joe Carter, who literally went screaming down the hallway. Ah,
he sounded like Michael Scott and then but he disappeared
like he didn't go back.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
To his room.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Okay, we couldn't find him, and it literally like we
were that worried about him that we we had people
out and search parties. You guys go that way, you
got that, And we eventually found him sitting on a
curb about a half a mile on the other side
of campus, staring into the darkness.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
You had that look on your face when Rogers got hurt,
we still had a lot of show to down. Yeah. No,
I mean the the two.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
I mean, I wasn't this low when Familia gave up
the home run to Aaron Gordon game in Aaron Gordon
to uh to to.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Eric Hosmer in Game one of the Worlds. I low,
no this this and Rogers like that's low man, it's low.
When when Diaz got hurt, you were pretty low.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
That was low, man, but not as low as this.
This is because all of this, like I said.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
This is seven to seven, which is the worst.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
This is an NBA all time NBA highlight achievement that
they're going to talk about for you because of everything
that goes along with I mean, I can't go through it.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
I already ordered you a choke shirt.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
On the front is Haliburton, on the back is Reggie Miller.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Does Now, as we get said for a game, I'll
pay attention to tomorrow because you know it's not the Knicks.
Uh time to give you our picks for DraftKings. Let's go,
new customers, play five bucks and get fifty dollars and
bonus picks instantly. Again, new customers, you play five bucks,
you get fifty and bonus picks instantly. Here's my DraftKings
pick for tomorrow night's game. I will give you I
(21:13):
was down on him last night, right because he had
that kind of game where you need more from him.
The over under for Ann Edwards points tomorrow is twenty
three and a half. I'm gonna go way over. Just
gotta go over twenty three and a half. But I'll
go over for Ann Edwards. He knows he needed to
bring them more last night. Five points in the third quarter,
no points in the fourth quarter. He has bad games,
he doesn't have them back to back. The next bad
(21:35):
game might be Game three, Game four, and again it
might and it might be too late. But tomorrow night
it'll be a big individual effort for him. Over twenty
three and a half for Ann Edwards.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
I'm staying same team, going big guy. I'm going Rudy
Gobert over six and a half points. Season average was twelve.
Early foul trouble.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Kept him out of the paint and out of harm's
way for a good chunk of that game. He'll be
more active and with Anthony Edwards, it's having some success
from the outside. Uh and on the dribble drive that
means also a beneficiary to take the ball to the rack.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Uh. So there it is.

The more you think about it, the more difficult the
game becomes. That's the problem. It seems so simple, But
I don't think the more the more, I just don't think,
just don't think. You gotta find the right, the right,
the right sweet spot to think, Okay, that's what you
gotta do.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Where the mechanism? All right? Frostburg? Sure? Why not?
Speaker 4 (26:23):

Speaker 3 (27:53):
All right, Oh my, no, okay, not thinking hard?
Speaker 1 (27:58):
No, all right, I'm not okay, very good. I used

the end of regulation? Is that a Magic Johnson tweet?
Speaker 2 (29:22):

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Did everyone ask me again later?
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Did everyone see Halli Burns reaction after his jumper at
the end of regulation? Is that a Magic Johnson tweet? No,
because Magic didn't see it. Maybe he's asking the question
because he wanted to know someone said he did something?
What did he think about that? Just when you start
(30:14):
changing the answers, I start changing the questions, all.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Right, look at that A little oh my rowdy, rowdy piper.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
This was the best game of the entire playoffs, and

That was fun.
Speaker 3 (32:40):

Speaker 6 (32:40):
I would have kept going.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
I think I won.
Speaker 5 (32:43):
I missed the first one, but I got the rest.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Yeah, I think you did what. I think I won
when you told me to stop thinking. Yes, that's when
I want to say you're coachable.
Speaker 5 (32:51):

Speaker 3 (32:53):
Will you take that into your everyday life? Maybe you

Speaker 1 (33:00):
Yes, a champion of the Magic Johnson Twitter game on
Today's day.
Speaker 5 (33:04):
On Today's day, I should do that. Put it on
a note, Put it on my fridge. The Knicks did
not deliver for you, Jason tonight. They were up by
fourteen points be two and a half minutes to go
in Game one of the Eastern Conference Finals and the Pacers,
with another comeback win for seing Ot on a ridiculous
long tou from Tyrese Halliburn, Indiana goes on to win
(33:25):

thirty one points and eleven assists. Aaron Nei Smith hit
eight threes, scored twenty points in the fourth quarter, ended
with thirty points. Jalen Brunson, in the loss, had forty
three points. Another NBA and US shake, gilges Alexander won

Both are going to be on Friday. In baseball, the

the Rangers for three on Jason Domingues home run.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
While those got HNN one.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
This hit a three run shot as the Dodgers defeated
the Diamondbacks three to one. In the NFL, the tushbush
stays legal in the upcoming NFL season. Not enough owners
voted to ban the play made famous.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
By the Eagles.
Speaker 5 (34:41):
The Lions with jud their proposal to change to change
playoff seeding, and now teams are allowed to do an
on side kick at any point if they are trailing
in the game.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
And lastly, the.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
Colts announced that their owner and CEO, Jim Ersey passed
away peacefully in his sleep this afternoon.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
He was sixty five.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Back to you guys, thank you very much. Mauch.
Speaker 1 (34:59):
Yes, now speak of the deaths of Jim Mersey, a
big shocker for all of us today. Coming up next,
something about him that I really am stunned to learn
in the hours following his death. And way do we
tell you what his final tweet was? That's coming to next.
Remember the life of an absolute legend that did so
much good for so many people. That's next right here,
(35:20):
Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (35:23):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
That hill has just gotten even larger for the Knicks,
so much larger. You need to make a deal with God,
the basketball gods. At least those boots up. Smith exmited
you today.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
Yeah, gotta listen to the whole show our podcast if
you miss any of tonight's show. Again, I'm happy for
the ninety nine percent of basketball fans that love Tonight's outcome.
That was the worst life loss in Nick's, most devastating
loss in Knick's history. Tonight, without a doubt, worse than
Reggie Miller game, worst most devastating law. Everything that throws
(36:09):
into this, and I'm gonna be seeing Halliburton doing the
choke gesture in my in my sleep. I'm gonna see
it for the next I don't know, thirty years.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
I'm gonna see the Halliburton choking bobblehead is already in production.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Oh great, oh great, thanks for telling me that I
needed to know that.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Thank you, Mike.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
Nineteen ninety nine. What night of the Dodgers giving it out?
They're giving out the bobblehead where Won Soto doesn't swing.
That's well, I mean that's during the Mets series. He
got the Kofax Jersey one night in the Halliburton. But look,
a really sad story today out of the NFL that
we need to talk about here the passing of Jim Ersay,
(36:45):
Colt's owner, who passed away at the age of sixty five.
Likely his daughter's going to assume full control of the team.
Ers is one of those guys. I mean, you know,
he had a very full life, and he had his issues,
and he had his demons. But is seeing what people
said about him today and all the great things he
did in his community he did for people. It's really
(37:06):
great to see these stories about a Mersey passing away
in a sleep earlier today at the age of sixty five,
his final tweet. Okay, his final tweet was from early
this morning. Go Pacers, good luck to Herb, the entire
Pacers organization and our city. That was the last tweet
from Jim Irsay they put that out this morning and
(37:27):
the Pacers come out and have a once in a
lifetime comeback here to beat the Nixon game one of
the Eastern Conference Finals.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
Yeah, our old colleague here at Fox Sports Radio, Jeffrey Gorman.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Who worked with the Colts, you know, just.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Telling tales about you know, generosity and working with him
and all the stuff he did around the city. And
you've seen that over the course of the day, and
I'm sure more tales. We had Jason Cole on earlier
who talked about his interactions with Jim Irsay through all
these years, talking about you know, he was just a
regular guy, right in a league where you.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
Know, we have owners that are worth.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Billions of dollars and sometimes carry themselves.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Like the rest of the world is beneath them. That
he was a guy that you could just have a
conversation with and and oftentimes, you know.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
When we talk about the world of sports, that's all
you're hoping for, right that, you know, the that you
can have that conversation and relate to your fan base.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
And all of that.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
And you know, Jim mersay for all the other you know,
demons that he that he fought through and the health
issues that he had. Uh, that's the thing that seems
to be the most resounding of it all is just
he was a guy of his city. And one of
the things now that's going to start gaining a lot
of attention, which is just a really cool thing, is
he has a collection of some of the greatest memorabilia
(38:48):
in the world.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
He's got his own museum, right and it was a
traveling road show. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
And he's got things that you wouldn't believe that he owns.
He owns he owns the Wilson volleyball from Castaway. Yeah,
owns the Wilson. He owns the Golden Ticket from Willie
Wonka and the Chocolate Factor. Like, he's got the Golden Ticket,
He's got that, He's got the Golden Ticket from the movie.
He's got an incredible number of rock and roll memorabilia.
(39:12):
Guitar some of the most famous bands. Guitar, Yeah, kirkle Bait,
that Defender, Yeah, the Kirkle Banks, Yes, spent like five
hundred thousand other things gotta be worth twelve.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
The piano from when Elton John did his first run
in Vegas, Ringo Star's first drum kit with the Beatle.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
He's got beatles, guitars, he's got Muhammad al Li's boots
from the Thriller in Manila. Like, he's got all of
these things. Yeah, he's got Yeah, he's got that.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
He's got the boots, the robe, and the belt from
the Thriller in Manila. I just always remember.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
When, and I've been following obviously, we talk about my
trading card and memorabilia stuff forever.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
Whenever a big rock and roll piece would come on
to the marketplace and be held by one of these
auction houses, it's like, all right, when's er say, get
into the admitting, Like when's he gonna show up on
the live calls or whatever to just blow everybody out
of the water because he just had to have it.
Speaker 3 (40:08):
Shockingly, we have something here on the show that he
never had. What's that? What's that? Because he's got John F.
Kennedy's rocking chip, but he doesn't have Andre the Giants jockstrap.
Oh no, he does not. That is true. That is yeah, no,
he does need that, damn right. You are right.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
He has so many rare books and manuscripts that he has.
He's got the original version of Catchering the Rye from JD. Salinger.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
Like the stuff he has is just amazing.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
How about the sixty four Fender stratocaster used by Dylan
at the Newport Folk Festival man as memorialized by your
guy sh.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Some kind of life, Jim Irsay, rest in peace, sixty
five years old for Mike gom Jason. Coming up next,
my buddy Ben Maller. I'm gonna go live in the
woods for the next month with no Internet or TV.
This is Fox Sports Radio.
