(00:49):
The way tire buying should be so a big one
for the Lakers. We'll have more on that coming up
in it, but just a little bit more on the
Aaron Rodgers emerging from the darkness retreat that he was
in earlier today. You go all the way to Oregon,
if it was dark, well, no was dark. I mean
the whole thing that this is darkness was an option
like anybody who goes to the mountains at tj darkness
(01:10):
was on the edge of town and in town for
Aaron Rodgers in his retreat tonight dj UH, Aaron Rodgers
exited his Darkness retreat, where ostensibly he was there to
figure out his future. He spent the last few days
in southern Oregon at Sky Cave Retreats, which is owned
by Scott Burman, guy named Burman owning uh the Darkness.
(01:34):
So that's when he's up to these days. Burman. I
don't see him that often. It's it's not just Michael Douglas.
But there was a ghost and the darkness for Aaron
Rodgers tj UM. Maybe he was blinded by the light
and chose to be the prince of darkness for the
last four days. That's jonnas Knocks three hundred foot room,
(02:01):
a partially underground, structured devoid of light, had a queen bed,
a bathroom, and a meditation like matt fully powered and
the lights can be turned on from inside the room
at any time. Now tell me I'm crazy or does
this sound like one of those end times bunkers these things?
Someone just said, Hey, I'm not making any money on
this until the end times come. So let me say, oh,
(02:23):
darkness retreat. Yeah, I can do that for a little bit.
These things are not mutually exclusive. You could be crazy
and this could be true. I'll just cancel the reservations
if the end time's come and I gotta get in
that bunker. So that's okay. But here he is. It's
a partially underground structure, devoid of light. Queen bed bathroom
meditation like matt fully powered lights can be turned on
from inside the room. No lava lamp because of course
(02:45):
it emits light. Yes, well, anything that emits light, it's
it's not. Now. I don't know what he spent on this.
I gotta find out too much. I'll guess too much. Well,
I got to see it's it's called this sky Cave retreats,
and they paid to see what something like that is. Oh,
I don't think he paid any money because he was
doing the Uh. Wow. If you pipe type in skycave,
it automatically sets to skyta skycave retreats. The sky's the limit.
(03:08):
I think on the entrance fee, I want to see
how much it costs for you to go in here,
uh and do it. It's Okay, it's got organic food.
It's got a Plunge Creek, which is seasonal mountain spring. Anyway,
you talked about food earlier in the show. Though, Is
there a cafeteria? Do you leave your structure? It says there.
(03:29):
It is a safe space and there is a retreat
support and uh, it's a wilderness sanctuary, so you could
go outside in nature. You could turn on the lights
in your own cabin for four days. Yeah, no, I'm
seeing I see pictures of the room. It's on the website.
It's a it's a swift the lights on. Yes, well
you can't the lights on the matter right, Why do
(03:49):
you need to see pif the lights gonna be off?
Why do you picks with the lights on? I don't understand.
Why do you yea who needs that painting on the wall? Yeah?
I mean it, but but but there's trust me, there's
a painting there. Well, what do I care for? No?
I just want to know. So I'm trying to figure
out how much it is for a room like this
to be able to pay for it, and they don't
have it. I can't find it. I can't let me
(04:11):
try frequently ask questions to see what's going on here?
Uh when does have to ask? That's probably you're probably
not going to this place. Oh is there hot water? Yes,
there's hot water. Will I ever hear people in the retreat?
Does the toilet work? What do I do in case emergency?
When do I come out? Whatever? You want to come out?
They're not locking the door. I mean I it's hey,
(04:37):
come out of that, Come out of that. You'll come
out of that. Come out of that room right there. Um. See,
this is where I'm like, you know, if I really
didn't care and I had no conscience, I would just
take all kinds of money from celebrities because I would
do stuff like this. Yeah, yeah, yeah, because this is
something you can do in the comfort of your own home.
I get the whole No, no, you want to get away,
(04:57):
But if you wanted to for no money, just spend
the whole time in your bedroom. You get blackout curtains,
a stay in the dark, staying dark the whole time.
And you really live where Aaron Rodgers lives, you probably
can't hear the neighbors anyway. No, No, you don't. No
one lives if you don't live near people but here.
But no, But you know what I got a room
for you. It's ten thousand dollars a night. This is
really sought after. People want this. Oh what's the upkeep
(05:19):
on a room like this? Oh it's nothing. I just
have the linen's change. It's just like a hotel. What
do you spend on? Nothing, that's nothing. There's there's nothing
to spend on. People just sit in the darks for
four days. It's awesome. And I make forty thousand dollars
from each person. I mean, that's what I would do.
And celebrities would. They would just fall over each other
to come to my darkness retreat. Oh, look at it.
It would be like James Earl Jones at the end
(05:40):
of Field of Dreams. People will falk over twenty dollars
a person without even thinking about. Oh, that's all it is.
Come around, look around. That's that's what celebrities would do
because just advertisement you got Knicks and Mets games on
real darkness retreat. People will come here, Ray, They'll come
for the Mets games, and they will stay for the
mixed games. I would just do that, and I'd make
(06:02):
a lot of money because every celebrity wants to be
in on the next big thing and Aaron Rodgers is
no different. He wants to be in the next cool thing,
the next hip thing. Yeah, look at me. I'm a reverend. Yeah,
I'd make a lot of money. I would separate celebrities
from all kinds of catching. They wouldn't care about it.
They have the money. Yeah, darkness, don't do the darkness treat.
It was so good. But I could lay in my bedroom.
Yeah no, no no, no, don't do that. Actually, just spend
(06:22):
the money to fly to Oregon. Go there, book a room,
go there and stay. They're awesome at that. This is
a good legal idea actually for this country. Right. Ye're
not doing anything illegal. You're saying exactly what you have.
You're gonna get a queen bed and the option to
have light for four days, call in a darkness retreat
as you inspect your navel, so you chill. You check
(06:45):
in a few hours before sunset. They orient you in
the land, review your meal plan, go through the day
to day. What's the day to day. You're sitting in
your room, it's dark. You got shuffleboard at ten am?
See you there? Yeah. Yeah. It says you have time
to get incident, familiar with the cabin, and enjoy the
surrounding elements. Again, you're in the dark. You're in the dark.
What are you doing? What do they do? They do
(07:07):
give you food. They'll show you how to do do the
final blocking at the bottom. They give you so they
give you food. Could be they just drop popcorn kernels
on the trail. You have to find your way. Have
them right here. I still say, we talked about this
last week. You go the Bobby Brady route, like on
the Brady family vacation to the Grand Canyon. You just
(07:29):
stuff that flashlight with franks and beans just in case,
forget the whole batteries and using it as a functional flashlight.
You never know you might need food again. The best
part of this, they say in the in the retreats
is that most retreatents is that a word, retreatents, most
were didn't know that, find that they sleep more or
less for the first twenty four to forty eight hours.
Now that I'm down fall, now that I'm down for
(07:51):
I'm gonna sleep for two full days health. That'll be great.
Oh that's fantastic. So you're paying thousands of dollars to
get some sleep? Exactly clear. I could separate people from
their money on that instead of just taking a nap
in their room, which anybody could do for no money. No,
I'll charge you ten grand to come do that. It's great.
And they probably have help at their house anyway where
(08:11):
you can't hear your neighbors, and you have so much land,
and the castle you live in is probably not a
little apartment, and so you could charge Oh what, give
give money to your to your help, to say you
be the lookout person. You keep sounds away from me,
you keep people away from me. This could be easily
done for a few days. You don't have to leave
(08:32):
your house to do this. You know, there's actually there's
a there's a there's a website that's got the ten
best darkness retreats for twenty twenty three. There are ten. Yeah,
there's ten, mess and here they're wait a minute, wait
a minute, and then I bet wait, not one of
those is the one Mike talks about. Wait a minute,
wait a minute. Hang, he's probably talking about. You asked
(08:53):
darkness retreat. Mike's always saying, Yeah, Guatemala for thousands of dollars,
where you can find out where all the Aaron Rodgers
Super Bowl Champion T shirts went. The last ten years.
There's a lot. There's a lot of darkness retreats that
go fourhand on that go for like twenty five hundred
(09:14):
bucks for three days or thirteen yeah, thirteen hundred bucks
for two Foods included, so it's a bargain. Food is included. Food,
it's organic. Is that really foods? Food? Can? I? Can
I say this again? Out loud? Lights are also included.
Now some are like like two thousand bucks and you
get like a week, so there is you get that,
(09:35):
but again, what's the overhead. There's no overhead. I'll give
you food and that's it. You could get the same
size room for half that price on a cruise ship
for a week and then literally it's the same as
being out in the woods. You just get a room
where you can see nothing but ocean outside, and no
neighbors get the retreats to you, and I'd actually get
(09:57):
to see things. I get to see things and oh,
look out of the porthole, I see a whale. That's great. Now,
I don't see that the darkness because because it's dark,
like I would be. I would be afraid if I didn't.
He looks glorious here. You see like trees and green.
This is where I think about roses too. This is you.
(10:18):
I'd be afraid, like I'd start thinking about this is
where horror movies happen, Like this is like in the
middle of the way darkness retreat, like hey about, Hey,
what's going on? I get season starts? Yeah, this is
where the bear was. I'd mean I get scared. I
get scared on one of these things. I mean, I
would nap for a while. It's supposed to be the
opposite of that. It's supposed to be rejuvenating, to center
(10:40):
your life, to prepare you for the real world and
plugging back in. How much do I gotta pay to
take a nap? Oh, here's the price? How great I'll
take I'll take a nap for thirty For that price,
that would keep me up for four days. This wouldn't work. Yeah,
but you know, but here's the thing I wouldn't like.
This is now like a couple grand for a few days.
I I would say, no, no, no, Mine is so
(11:01):
much better. I would have like fake testimonials to it,
and it would be like bare bones. But it's what
you want, and it's ten thousand dollars. I make no
ten because this is the one you want, Well, what
do I get? You get a it's a really hard bed,
and you get a rug, and I'll get you McDonald's.
That's what and that's what it is. And that's your
free supply of granola bars. Yes, that's your dark Want
a good deal on a nap, guys man, go ahead,
(11:23):
twenty bucks gets you in the amp man I mean less,
I mean that's that's it. Or the XFL game at
Vegas this week. I didn't say homeless, but I would
just I would just have the image that mine is
the best. But wait, these other places all have organic food.
It's in the wilderness that no, no, no, you want
(11:45):
the spartan environments of the Jason Smith Darkness Retreat. There's
nothing there to just there's no distractions at all. Is
there heat? Nope? Is there right? No heat? No lights.
You don't have to spend on anything. You just collect.
But I could turn the lights on on any time. Nope,
can't turn the lights on. You know, for all how
long have people been talking about this one or two
weeks about the Darkness Retreat? And literally not until tonight.
(12:09):
And do I hear anybody emphasizing, by the way, for
all four days you're there. You can turn on the
lights at any time. Yeah, well, I mean I think
where people might want to do that. But that's the
horror movie though, where people say, okay, they want to
turn the lights on it the lights are cut, right,
The lights are cut by the crazy guy or the
cocaine bear that has figured out how to cut the
ore is eating the lights. A phone call is coming
(12:30):
from inside the hut. The bear is making a phone call.
It's only at three hundred square foot room. What are
you gonna do? And then of course the person who
makes it out at the end is all disoriented because
they've been in the dark for so long and like
the person's just standing behind the where the night. They
don't know where to run, where to go? Oh yeah
see that's don't know where to run, baby, don't know
where to hide. Patent pending, patent pending, patting. That would
(12:53):
be the movie Darkness Retreat. You thought Jason and Freddie
were scary, how about when you seriously, no, you're not.
You're not kidding. You're not that far from Hollywood literally
where you were talking right now. If there's a movie
that's gonna make millions with the title cocaine Bear. You
can certainly make a movie called Darkness Retreat and make
(13:13):
something of it. Yeah, the lights actually never went off. Wait,
the lights won't go on. It'd be in the very beginning.
I could see the trailer of the sanctuary the wilderness
and you meet the people who are going onto their things,
and then something happens and then like it's I don't
(13:35):
know that mean ah, would that be the cocaine. Yeah,
then the bear comes in sure, okay, all right? Then
the bear could come and turn bear. It says it
right in the script. So he's going to the bears.
I would almost then to rehab. He's okay, he's ready
for season two. He's got a bit of a smoking problem,
but we're getting over that. And then Rogers in his
(13:56):
in his uh and Rogers would be in it. And
then at the end he has a big confotation with
the bear and he says, I own you, I own you,
I own you. They start brow. That would be great.
That's the ending of the movie. That Barney is not
even here, and that's it. Absolutely, that's the ending of
the treats the Bear again. Yeah, that's the ending of
the trouble check Mike Drop out. He just yells. He like, oh,
(14:18):
he's all bloody, and he yells, I own you to
the bear, and the bear roars and then it says, boom,
Darkness retreat. Cocaine Bear too. That would be would be
be Cocaine Bear too, Darkness Retreat. That would be the movie.
There you go, Okay, sure, all right, I gotta hang
on starring Aaron Rodgers. Hang on call Elizabeth Banks get
a meeting with her, like she's picking up your call.
(14:39):
There we go, sure for coke for an idea for
Cocaine Bear too, Darkness Retreat. Well, at some point she
took a meeting on this movie. So that's Cocaine Bear. Listen.
Will you just sit with them for five minutes? You
never know fall do me a favor. It's my nephews,
brother's cousin. Will you just it's an idea? Okay, wait
a minute, there's Glee in the forest and they know
(15:02):
it's different. Elizabeth Banks movie entirely pitch perfect in the
far No, it's pitch black four pitch black. What happens?
It's a bunch of unsuspecting acapellas. You get attacked by
a cocaine bear in the woods. Where's our baritone? Get
in bartone? How long is it for Cocaine Bears on
(15:23):
the mass singer? Oh yeah, well, probably got a dry
throat and can't sing very well. So it's seth Rogan,
isn't it? Oh, Twitter and out about a Fresca Jason
switch show with Mike Garment's team to sing You're in farming.
I mean a Cocaine Bear too, Darkness or treats. That's
(15:44):
a movie. Yeah, that's the me right there, boom and
I will sell that idea to Elizabeth Banks. And I
just want three percent of the profits. Three percent, that's
all asking. I'm an idea guy. That's a fun part
of it for me coming up with the idea. Now
you take the idea, go make it a movie. You're
better at making movies than I am. Go make it
and I get three percent of the gross take one percent,
still more than you get on this gig yep, exact.
See there you are, so you got it right there.
(16:06):
I don't know. Have they greenlit Cocaine Bear two? I
mean sometimes they do that. Today this weekend they will
like after the first day, it's hey, Cocaine Bear two
coming out. We got we greenlit we're gonna do it.
Did people not hear us say that the reviews are
better for that than for the ant Man movie? What
were there budgets? Let's compare for these two movies? Or
what if you put it all together to ten dollars?
If it was Cocaine Bear versus aunt Man, wouldn't you
(16:28):
take Cocaine Bear over aunt Man? I think I would
because he's real? What a world? Aunt Man is real?
Paul rut his real life, seen him on television? He does,
He's the world sexiest man a year. What does he know?
He roots for the Chiefs, the Bears in a different universe.
I own you. I own you. That is a different universe. Oh,
(16:49):
we'll have more on the Darkness Tree coming up next.
But as promised, the next well, I don't want to
say five hundred million, but how about a six hundred
million dollar man in Major League Baseball? Keep it right here,
Jason Smith Steve de Sager in from Mike. This is
Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten
pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
(17:13):
the iHeart Radio app. Fox Sports Radio the Jason Smith
Show was special delivery Steve de Sager in from Mike
Harmon tonight. Uh. We spent a lot of time talking
about the Aaron Rodgers situation coming out of the Darkness Retreat.
By the way NFL network, Jason said that he was
supposed to enter that on Monday, so four days way
(17:35):
something ap Steve, Well, I can't can't hear anyboddy he
was out two after two days, I think, okay, with
two days, it was just two days. Well, he was
out yesterday, right, And if the NFL network is correct
that he was supposed to enter Monday and not the weekend,
and that means he left. But he said it, but
he said it was the end of last It was
always He was very mad Steve that people didn't know.
He said it was always scheduled for the end of
(17:56):
last week. He got very mad at Pat Mount pat
MC of the show people, who was always scheduled for
the end of this week. He is very mad about
mister mister Cave said Wednesday was his last day that
he left Wednesday. Steve pull up Arian Foster's script. It's
in it. Yeah, see see if it's there. Uh, look,
this is why I have. I don't have a lot
of patients for stories like this, for things like this,
(18:18):
it's like, you know, come on, man, be real, be it,
be a person, right and let me let me just
say this. None of this means I don't want him
to be the quarterback of the Chets. Okay, it's just there,
it is, and no want I don't want that to happen.
Um is that? Look, I subscribe to the Winston Churchill
quote from The Crown. There's no problem that can't be
solved in twenty minutes. And don't don't you know if
(18:41):
you're Aaron Rodgers, what you want to do isn't Isn't
this just a just a way to get attention and
to have people think you're a reverend? I mean, it's
what he wants. It's his image. He can't he can't
say no to the news cycle. He loves it so much.
Do you know what you want to do? You know,
at this point you've been with Green Bay your entire career.
Do you want to go back? Yes? Or no? Okay,
(19:01):
because you know everything you need to know. Your agent's
been talking to people, You've been talking to the team.
You know if they want you back you know if
you want to be there. Do you want to retire?
I think you know that too. I think you know
if you want to retire or keep playing again. You
have sixty million dollars coming your way this year. Do
you really want to go out last year as your
last year? Of course not, and it won't be sixty
if they trade him before camp, right, So right, it's Leah,
(19:21):
So it did? Do you want to do you want
that to be your last year? Or do you want
to take this money? Or do you want to try
somewhere else? Because you know you've been talking about it
for the last couple of years. If you finish your
career without playing someplace else, it's gonna feel unfinished. He's good,
he has that itch to want to do it. Brady
did it. He's seeing other quarterbacks later in their careers
do it. Maybe I can go and I can win
someplace else and I can continue to build my legacy. So, yeah,
(19:44):
you know that you want to keep playing. Do you
want to play for the Jets or not? Right? Do
you want to play for the Jets? That's a legitimate
life question. Okay, that is I don't know that the
darkness retreat for that I think you have to know
pretty much right away, I'll be a jet or I
won't be a jet. You have to know these things,
you could well, you know the answer to these things.
You don't need to go for. You'll give me some
crazy ass thing for four days or three days in
(20:05):
a darkness treat. You know the answer, right, everybody, you
spend enough time on the most important things in your
life every day. Everybody does. And everybody's got things that
are really important to them that you spend the majority
of the day thinking about. And Aaron Rodgers situation. Does
he want to play? Where does he want to go?
That's the biggest thing he's got going on. What does
he want to do? He's got to make a decision
by the beginning of March, because the packers saying, listen,
(20:27):
we'd like something by the beginning of free agency, so
we know where to go, how much money we're gonna have,
we're gonna build around Jordan love, all of these things.
You know what to do. You don't need to go
on a four day darkness treat other than to just say,
look at the power I have. I'm drunk with the
power that I've had the last couple of years where
I say things and the new cycle just keeps going
at it. So yeah, Darkness retreat for the next four days.
(20:47):
Like I said, how upset was he on Pat McAfee
show that it it was. I don't know why people think
it was always scheduled for the end of this week.
Oh I'm sorry everybody had Aaron Rodgers schedule. I didn't
have that. I misread the day on the Aaron rod
the fridge too much. Come on, man, you know you
know the decision. You want him, man, if you want
a player, he already had the four days, Let's be honest,
(21:07):
in his offseason, because he didn't have any of those
pesky playoff practices to go through or postseason games into February.
You had a lot of easy days. After you lost
the Lions at home, that should have been it. That
was it time for us to go? You know the
answers I mean. And you could have done it, you know,
with nobody paying attention, because you know this the NFL
season was still going on. You could do whatever you
(21:30):
wish in anonymity because the focus is not on you
or the Packers. No, but still, this is what I want.
I will I want people to be waiting for me
with bated breath to go what is he gonna do?
Is he gonna play? Is he gonna nod? He's gonna
And honestly, there are probably some team, not the Jets
because they're desperate, but there are some teams and maybe
(21:50):
the Raiders who there were some reports today that the
Raiders may be moving away from Aaron Rodgers, their quarterback.
But there's some teams that I would guarantee you are.
We're on the periphery of, hey, if Rogers becomes available,
is it really the worst thing to go after him?
Should we make a move for him? And there were
teams that maybe we're figuring it out, and then you
get this, Oh, I'm going on a darkness retreat and
(22:12):
then I'll let everybody know what's going on after and
NFL teams are going okay, So now we got to
wait to find out what his deal is for another
whole week. Is we're getting ready for free agency coming
up in five days and where you know what, forget it,
I'm done. This is just too weird for us. I
don't know what his deal is. We're not going to
go here. And there are teams that probably backed out
because of this whole darkness retreat thing, all of that,
(22:34):
because they're desperate. They they don't care. They looked at
the last year that what Green May went through on
and off the field and say, okay, did all of
this make green better? Clearly it did not, So why
would you want to enter into that? Yeah? And how
are we starting the off season with a darkness retreat? Okay,
you know what I'm done. I'm pulling the block. You
know one of those darkness retreats where you can turn
(22:55):
the lights on at any time for all four days.
You really hung up on that. You can turn the
lights on it. Well, that kind of makes it a
lightness retreat, doesn't it. But not if you don't But
not if you don't use it. Maybe you don't turn
the lights off. I could have the lights off in
the studio here during the show the entire four hours.
We did darkness retreats all week long, and we first
of all, we found Derek Carr's Darkness retreat instead, which
(23:18):
was a big thing. You killed a cat by stepping
on it. So we had some things happened during our
darkness retreats. See, it can be done anywhere. Begin point
you stepped on a laughing. That's why I think probably
here somewhere she stepped on him again and the lights
are on. This is I mean, I didn't even really
(23:38):
it's been in the studio the entire time for the
showized Sorry, I mean, look, this is getting mad now.
And this is why to To had this come full
circle here. This is why there's no way Roger's going
to retire, all right. First of all, the money that
he's due, nobody walks away from that. Does he have
stuff he wants to prove in the NFL? Still? Does
(24:00):
he want to you know, I don't want to go
out with this being my last year. Yeah, But in
the end, look at what he loves. He loves this,
He loves dictating the news cycle. He loves going on
Pat McAfee show and saying things like, look at my
tattoos and here's some conspiracy theory. No one's gonna care
about Rogers when he retires. He's not the icon that
Tom Brady is. Where we still are going to follow
(24:21):
stuff with Brady because there's a relationship with Gazelle bunch
in and here's Brady with his kids, and here's Gazelle
Bunchen in Costa Rica. Here's Gazelle bunching on the runway,
and here's Brady in equestrian lesson Brady. Brady has the
Fox contract already and it's long term. Yeah, and Rogers
is someone who he's a big star because he's playing
in the NFL. Once this happens, people walking Roger are
(24:41):
You're not gonna play? Okay, somebody else. We'll talk more
about Joe Burrow, and more about Mahomes, and more about
Sauce Gardner, you know these, we'll talk there. He holds
a lot. He loves it dot holding if they don't
call it. He loves the spotlight way too much. He is.
He has had an in ordinate amount of it the
last two years. To say, Okay, I'm ready to walk
(25:03):
away from that now. No, just by this whole darkness retreat,
you know, I want to keep people hopping and keep
people on their toes. There's no way he's walking away,
you know. There. The NFL does I'll call it a
good job of staying in the news for twelve months,
which they didn't used to always do. The problem for me,
as a general sports fan is the reason things are
staying in the news is just annoyance and aggravation, like
(25:26):
the Rogers story last offseason and who knows how long
it'll go this offseason, and the Lamar Jackson story which
is far from done, and it was the Dak Prescott
story from that it was just can you just come
to a conclusion already, there's no there's nothing new, he
decide and go, I promise I'll watch your games. I'm
a fan of the sport. Every year I watch the NFL.
(25:48):
I will continue to do so. This is not entertaining
to me. Twitter at how about a fresca? Jason Smith
Steve de Sager in from Mike Harmon tonight. Six hundred
million dollars man is coming up in ninety but first
be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harman weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. Shoeotani might not be the first five hundred
(26:11):
million dollar man, but the first six hundred dollndred dollar
man in sports. And if you think that's too crazy
of a number, he's gonna get it all right. You
think about what he brings the table for everything else
far as it being a dh and a picture he's
going to get that kind of money. And I'll tell
you exactly how this season's gonna go. The Angels are
(26:33):
gonna play, They're gonna follow out of contention, and there
are two teams. They're gonna trade for Otani because they're
gonna trade for him with the idea of signing him
long term. We want you to come here, play here
for a month or so month or two months. Yeah,
love it, and we're gonna sign you to a six
hundred million dollar contract. There's only two teams that can
(26:54):
do that. The Dodgers and the Mets. That's it, not
the Philly Guard. The team's phil spending. How many three
hundred million dollar guys can you have? You already got
Bryce Harper. You're paying thirty million dollars too. They're the
only two teams because the Dodgers have laid off this
season offseason because they want to let the young guys
play a little bit, and there was nobody out there
to go crazy money wise. For Carlos Correa was a
(27:15):
big but you come on, you're the dog. You're not
can't do it right, You can't do it. So they're
sitting back. They're gonna spend their money again, but it's okay,
we're gonna sit this out for a little bit and
then spend again very soon. And Otani's the guy they're
gonna go get and you know, so you know they're ready,
they have the money to do it, and you know
Steve Cohen is itching to do it because a he
(27:36):
almost did it with three hundred million dollars for Carlos
Korea that didn't work out, so you know he wants
to pay that money. And you know he wants to
tell Baseball to stick it because if all the reports
owners were mad, oh there's a reason why we don't
go over three hundred million, it said, if Steve Cohen
doesn't care, right the John Henry line for moneyball baseball.
You know what money brings you enough money to not
care what baseball thinks about stuff, And that's what Cohen wants.
(27:58):
So yeah, half it's half of it's gonna be. He
wants the Mets to win the World Series and I
want to be the incredibly relevant franchise in the game.
I got money for show. Hey, Otani, I don't care
about paying a luxury tax, and I want to stick
it to baseball to show, Oh you were mad at
me that I was going to sign Carlos Korea. Watch this,
it's two teams for Otani. It's the Mets, it's the Dodgers.
That's how it's going to come out. And before we say,
(28:19):
you know, it is silly money. What you mentioned anything
over the trout current contract is silly money. But to
keep in mind, you're essentially getting two players. This is
a five year major leaguer that we're talking about. At
this point, we have established that he's not only been
Rookie of the Year, he's been MVP and last year
he was top five in MVP voting and top five
(28:41):
in Cy Young voting. So it's a guy that can
hit thirty homers every year and give you the fastball
and the strikeouts and potentially the wins. He was a
fifteen game winner as a pitcher last year for a
bad team. The same year he had another thirty homer season.
Silly what you get all in one guy can take
(29:03):
the wins away. Though. If he's going to the Mets,
yeah you kidding, man, he's gonna walk in. He'll be
the Mets number five starter. That's how good the Mets
pitching is. He's sucking his number five starter in d
h Look at this, Look at the Mets. If he
has fifteen wins with the Angels, stow, you just stop, Frostburg,
just stop. But that's it. Those are the only teams
(29:25):
that he could go to. Those are the only The
Yankees don't spend that kind of money anymore, and nobody
else is gonna owe six hundred million. That's too rich
for me. I can't do it. Cohen doesn't care. The
Dodgers have the money. That's why there is that he
wants to play in October. Dodgers Mets. Yeah, so hey
could be, he could be. I'm not saying it's one
over the other, but it's two teams and that'll be
who battles for him at the end of that By
(29:46):
the deadline, when the Angels have fallen out of contention
and it's time to move on, he needs to play
in October. We yeah, we need absol one hundred percent
on the sport, you know. And and John Paul Morossi
even said it when we we were on were filled
in for Dan Patrick yesterday, Mike and I and he said,
there is no team under more pressure. The first couple
months of the season and the Angels because if they're
in it, they can keep Otani, and maybe they get
(30:09):
in and things are good and they can keep him
long term. Un he'll want to stay good. But if
they if they're bad the first couple of months, he's
going to be gone by the deadline and it's onto
somebody's no team under more pressure, and yeah, everybody's died
to see Otani in the player and then Trout is
latching with his huge contract and still literally no playoff
wins in this whole time. He'll be at Eagles game.
It's on October. Steve, that's his playoff games. Eagles games,
(30:32):
that's his playoff games. Mike Trout in the playoffs, he
goes to Eagles games. By the way, we've had Philadelphia's
baseball team lose the World Series and the football team
lose the Super Bowl, and the Philadelphia's MLS team same
day the Phillies lost the World Series lost MLS Cup.
So I don't know what sport is next Sixers, No
Sixers losing the finals to the nutstanding by if they
(30:53):
get past Boston. I'm just looking ahead. The Lakers will
sweep him in the finals. Steve. Yeah, speaking of the
Lakers that they're back. They're back. We have the Play
of the Night coming up next, and what reality could
be for this new look Lakers team. That's next right here,
this is Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
(31:16):
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the iHeartRadio app Fox Sports Radio. The Jason
Smith Show with My bass Friend Mike Harmon, My Upsets

more at Progressive dot com or call one eight hundred Progressive. Well,
when your best player has a really off night, your
second best player has a really off night, your third
best player gets hurt, only plays nine minutes, but the
(31:57):
rest of your team plays great and you in a
big game by thirteen, Well, then they're back. The Lakers
who are back, allegedly get to be the play of
the night, and this will take us to the finish line.
The Lakers back to back wins one before the break,
one coming out of the break. That's twenty eight and
(32:19):
thirty two. I think he just said Lakers are back, right,
Lakers are back back? Yeah no, no, that's TNT. Now
how would Lakers play by play man Billy macko call that?
This is how it would go. The Lakers are back.
Oh my god, they're back. The Lakers are back. Look
at this, they're back. They won by thirteen. Dramatic pause.
Then Billy Mack the trophy. Billy Mack would be Tony Romo. Jim, Jim, Jim,
(32:43):
can you believe this? Jim can't believe the Lakers one again? Jim.
Stu Stu Stu. I mean, le Bron didn't even have
a good game. What did you have? Like thirteen points?
To Stu, that sound made this amazing, Stu, Stu, Stu,
I can't believe this, Stu. It was Malik Beasley starting
Ladies and gentlemen thrive points. Look to be fair about
(33:03):
the Lakers. I get it. They look they're three and
once it's the trade deadline. They have new energy. That's great.
They have a soft schedule coming up. They can win
a bunch of games. Man, I mean, just you're just
hating on the Lakers if you think they can't. Now
is this new team? And D'Angel Russell got hurt tonight
X rays on his ankle worred negative sprained ankle, so
(33:24):
he's day to day. Hopefully he is back for their
next game. But can the Lakers you know, win fourteen
or fifteen games out of the last twenty three, Yeah,
of course they can. They don't play anybody who's any good.
I mean, come on, Patrick Beverley is saying we're going
to keep him out of the playoffs. Dude, you play
for the Bulls. The Bulls thing they stank. So yeah,
(33:45):
it's never exactly tethered to reality. No, no, no, But
if you if I could say this for the Lakers. Okay,
what's their ceiling right now? The Lakers go fourteen and
nine ish, they make it into the playing round, they'd
finished just over five they'd finished just over five round,
which is where you're gonna be in the Western Conference.
(34:07):
Could they then win in the playing round? Yeah, you're
talking about the Pelicans who may or may not have
Zion Utah, who was free falling through the standings, Golden State,
Golden State, who never know where the game is gonna
be Minnesota is not that great. Could they get out
of the playing round? Yes, then you get into the
Western Conference playoffs where hey, could their first game be
(34:31):
against the Sacramento Kings first round? Stare, I don't know that.
I would take the Kings over the Lakers. I could
see the Lakers in that series right there. I could
see the Lakers winning. That could be a seven versus
two seed matchup. You're not just selling these blindly out
of a hat. Yeah, I don't know that Memphis is
eventually is going to get their their act together. I
wouldn't want to play a young Memphis team because you
(34:52):
just give Shannon Sharp courtside tickets. Oh that's true. Memphis
had the Shannon Sharp curse. There are four and ten
since the Shannon Sharp game. So I wouldn't want to
play the Grizzlies. I wouldn't want to play the Clippers.
But could I see that they beat the Kings in
a two seven and get onto the second round of
the playoffs. Yeah, that I can kind of see. But
a lot has to go right. But I can see
where I can see a path, and it's not too
(35:14):
difficult where the Lakers actually when they get out of
the playing round, and suddenly this year is a success,
which shows you where the Lakers where the bar is. Hey,
let's get out of the playing round and that's a
success for them, Matt. And then you would hope number one,
see Denver gets upset in the first round by a
Golden State or somebody, and then you just don't have
to face them. You hope Denver loses, and Memphis loses,
(35:34):
and the Clippers lose, and the Suns lose, not even
all of them, because you haven't mentioned Phoenix, which is
going to be a real team. Now, yeah, watch out,
I'm telling you when they start, because right now the
team to be scared of is Denver. And when Katie
starts playing, which is going to be in about a week,
watch out. As long as he's healthy, they're gonna start
ripping off wins against teams. And look, it's gonna look
(35:56):
like the Suns and the Nuggets are the two unbeatable
teams in the Western Conference. That's what's gonna happen. Now,
he's got to be healthy, and it looks like he is.
But if he is, look out, man, the sun they'd
be We're going to talk about the Sun's winning the championship.
That that's the kind of impact he's gonna happen there.
And it looks like less than a week for Kevin
Durant to make his Phoenix Suns debut. Maybe I think
it's a road game next Wednesday and the latest. If
