Greetings and welcome inside the final drama filled hour tonight
of The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon,
live from the ti rack dot Com studios tirerac dot com.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I hope you get there.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
An unmatched election, fast free shipping, free road has a
protection over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot com
is the way tire buying should be. So Lamar Jackson
has spoken. We're gonna hear from actually here from Patrick
Mahomes coming.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Up in a few minutes. Spicy Patrick Mahomes, Well, alright,
hang on, hang.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
The hey man, he's coming out firing. Hang on, I said,
I said, spicy, not just the equipment guy.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Yeah, there's no tiptoeing through the tulips here.
Speaker 5 (01:13):
I was just glad to play football because ever die
open up, I go. Why is Britney trending? Why is
Jackson trending? Why is that I'm not to play football? Man,
I can't do it anymore. I said so hard.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
But let's go back to the conversation we had a
few minutes ago, because it's a fascinating one about the
final two plays of this game. Right, Chiefs beat the
Ravens twenty seven to twenty. All the attention on the
last play, fourth down play from the ten yard line,
Isaiah likely comes down with what looks like a game
tying touchdown catch, but upon further review, his foot is
(01:45):
out of bounds. It's not by a lot. It's by
a few inches, maybe three inches at the most, but
he was out of bounds. It's like one of those
little uh cocktail hot dogs that you'd put in the sauce.
I'm out of bounds by if I eat that on
my if I eat out of my inbounds, I might
eat them. So he's out of bounds. But the play
before it is the big one. It's where Lamar Jackson
(02:07):
misses and open z A Flowers that he's opened by
five and there's no defender five yards either side of now,
Lamar is rolling to the right, and it looks like
he overthrows or throws back too far to the left
to not hit Zay Flowers. And when we watch this,
we saw potentially that maybe Flowers wasn't even the intended
(02:29):
receiver on this play, that potentially he was looking for
Rashad Bateman, who was also coming across the middle. And
there's audio out now he actually said, yes, he was
looking for Bateman across the middle.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
He was expecting Bateman to sit.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Down, which means I'm getting to the point I'm gonna
stop where you can hit me in the front of
the end. Get posts now you're posting up in basketball. Yeah,
I said, Lamar Jackson played a great game. I said,
how how terrific he was, how much he looked. He
missed this throw, and you can't miss this throw. You
also can't give me this explanation because this explanation doesn't
make sense right because watch the play. Watch the replay.
(03:08):
He's rolling to the right and Zay Flowers and Rashad
Bateman are both coming to the right following him the
same path along the field. He looks back towards Bateman
and he still misses Bateman to the right, So it's
almost it almost looked like if he had said, hey,
I expected Bateman to keep running right that's where the
ball was. Bateman did kind of sit He wasn't that open.
(03:32):
He had a he had a he had a defender
on and behind him and one kind of in front.
So it's not like Lamar could zip the ball in,
but could he lead him and Bateman another couple of
steps would have caught the ball.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
That's what it looked like. Yeah, that's not that's not
how the play was, but that's not what it was.
But yeah, we haven't seen a full clear view from
either the end zone or from behind Lamar. Again, helmet cam,
I need to know what you're seeing. But the the
idea that Bateman is likely the intended target here, as
Lamar claims, he doesn't sit down and he kind of
(04:05):
stops running.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yeah either, so.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Like he did neither if that's what hand said, half
jogging at that point as the ball zips by in
between beyond where Flowers had run and where Bateman was heading.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
So it's really odd that he would say it that way.
And look, Lamar Jackson is not a guy that throws
teammates under the bus. But this explanation is really really
odd because that that's not how the play went. He
had to throw into the end zone because it was
fourth It was fourth down there or five seconds left,
the down didn't matter. It was the final player of
the end. There was five seconds left, they had no
(04:42):
timeouts left. He had to throw to the end zone.
So it's not like Bateman was supposed to sit down
earlier in the play. And wherever Lamar Jackson threw the ball,
he missed. So I don't know what he I don't
know what Bateman could have done on that player would
have been hey, okay, keep running, Okay, great, But that's
not what Lamar Jackson said. If it was God, keep running,
keep running, Okay, I get it, and I stopped.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
I didn't know what was going on.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
And maybe he saw that Za Flowers was breaking open
and because the play was look, the players all think
different things. You're thinking on the fly. It's potential that
because he could seize a Flowers in front of him,
who was in the towards the back of the end
of that. Okay, if I keep running my pattern, I'm
gonna get in Zay's way, it's a broken play.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
Now.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Anyway, Lamar is gonna look and sees a Flowers, I
don't want to get too close to him, get defenders there,
and we wind up not making the place. So maybe
that's why he pulled up the way he did, but
more accurate would say he stopped running. But that's not
what Lamar Jackson said. I realise I'm taking on a guy.
I'm talking about a guy's a two time NFL MVP,
But that's not the play.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Yeah, we're trying to parse it out meanwhile, looking at
it from just the replay that is at our disposal,
and we have that camrangle, right, that's all we've got
to go from in terms of how close that was.
If Bateman takes one more step, or if he does
post up and has some reach, right, all of that
(06:01):
like how it's a game of inches one way or another,
like the likely play at the end and here where
if Bateman is in fact the guy that he's looking for,
it's it's not a huge margin there because Flowers, he'd
already overrun it several yards by that point, right, and
he just turns back and jumps because he knows that
(06:22):
the Chiefs got away with one.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Yeah, look, it's it's a.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
It's a really tough way to lose because you would
want to think that he'd be able to see where
to make the throw on that and you had a
wide open receiver whatever you thought the play was gonna be,
you still didn't see the wide open guy right wherever
you thought it was going to be. You still didn't
see it.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Why.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
And it's not like he was wide open and it
was all the way on the left of the field
and you don't see him in your peripheral vision because
you're getting flushed out.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
He just flashed in the last second, right, I know
he was coming scraping across the back of the end
zone wide open, right, he came uncovered.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
I mean that's That's what I don't get of it, too,
is that he missed a wide open guy who is
just ten yards away.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
That he's looking at that that he's looking at.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
So, I mean, I it's the tough throws that he
has difficulty making.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Yeah, Okay, I get that.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
I understand that Lamar Jackson is is what is this
is the player that he is, Right, He's never gonna
be the absolute most accurate passer, though, he was pretty
accurate tonight. He is gonna need a little bit better
weapons at wide receiver because as we saw tonight, hey
maybe they're not the best in the business and they're
gonna have trouble creating separation. Zay Flowers is good. He's
not great, right, He's not He's not coming in. He's
(07:34):
not justin Jefferson. He's a good receiver that got him
in the first round, and and certainly he'sing a guy
for a few years. But I get missing I get
missing those. This is a throw that you go, gee, man,
you gotta see that. You have you have to.
Speaker 7 (07:46):
Say, you have to see that one.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
And as we were talking with Jay Glazer last hour
for those that missed it, podcast will go up about
an hour from now. We appreciate you your continued support,
the downloads and evangelizing to your friend's family. If you're
calling as idiots, whatever you do, keep it flowing, keep
building the community at how about a Fresco at Swollen Dome.
But as Jay Glazer said, hey, it's game one and
(08:09):
you are facing the defending champ. Now they had some
changes on defense. Snead is gonna be playing for the Titans,
So you got a little bit in the secondary that thought.
You thought maybe you could pick at a little bit
and find some spots, and you did with likely as
one of your big targets tonight and early on Zave
Flowers had a couple of plays where he kind of
(08:31):
popped open. But that'll get better. I don't know how
much better, right, I'm still not a full believer of
the receiving core as it is. But you're not gonna
be facing the Chiefs every week, right, and Derrick Henry
will not be neutralized as he was here.
Speaker 7 (08:47):
Now, I might expect they have to.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Be world beating No I am not.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
No, I'm certainly not expecting that Justice Hill, as a
runner and receiver has more elusivity, and he'll have to
be part of the mix, I think more than maybe
they hoped. Now, look, that's the real the next question
to get into here, because here's a couple of plays
they didn't make them. I don't know what Lamar Jackson
is talking about in that final play. Maybe it's because
(09:11):
it's the end of the game and he's talking fast
and wants to get done, but that's not how the
play went. And he missed an open wide receiver. Okay,
those are the plays, but what worries me in totality
for the Ravens is exactly what you talked about. Derek
Henry thirteen carries for forty six yards in a touchdown yes,
and five yard touchdown run, the gain ball a couple
(09:31):
of times, first round, first drive of the game. He's thirty.
Is he really still Dereck Henry? Because if he's not,
that's gonna be a ton of problems. And that's a
big gamble that the Ravens took this season because Dereck
Henry at some point as a bigger running back. Look
the guy's two fifty six two two fifty guys slow
(09:52):
down when they get to the age of thirty, and
Dereck Henry is down big time in his yardage, his
yards is average, first downs, everything from two years ago
to last year. Is he still that guy? It's a
gamble and a risk to throw the running game in
Derrick Henry's backyard and say, Okay, you're gonna be the
other guy on the offense because you don't know if
(10:14):
he's gonna be that good, and I gotta say when
he should be fresh and go, this is not hey
I'm kind of beat down by the entire season. I'm
wearing down a bit towards the end. This is when
he's his freshest right. He didn't have preseason, not getting
hit a lot, and he averaged three and a half
yards of carry. Like Derick Henry was not a factor
in this game at all. The image of him was
(10:34):
a factor. But a couple more games like this and
teams are gonna go, Okay, he's lost that step. He's
not King Henry anymore, and that makes it way more
difficult for the Ravens. It's a huge gamble. I mean, hey,
it was a great splash, But what do I always say?
You can't look at the back of a guy's football
card and thinking about a great player Because you didn't
get Derrick Henry in twenty eighteen, you didn't get him
in twenty twenty. You're getting him now coming off his
(10:56):
worst year in the NFL, injury free in six years,
and at thirty years old and a bigger running back.
That's a lot of variables to throw in there. That's
my big concern for the Ravens. As much as a
wide receiver, Lamar has seemed to figure it out over
the last few years, regardless as to how good receivers
he's had, Right, he's had good receivers and they've won
pretty well. Haven't won ultimately, but they've been in contention
(11:18):
making division sure got to the playoffs. They've had no
receivers and they've worked out pretty well. But he's always
had some kind of running game to always. That's where
he and someone else were a couple other players, whether
it was Dobbins or Edwards or if those guys were
hell were injured. They've always figured that out. But if
Henry's not the guy, wow, that's that's the me. To me,
(11:39):
that's the biggest worry I have for the Ravens.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Yeah, it'll be curious to see how much of a
split there is because clearly Lamar Jackson calling his own
number on design runs and the number of scrambles, as
Steve de Sager had in his from the news desk earlier,
you know that that's concerning, right, that's untenable and unsustainable.
And the offensive line's got a click, and that's a
(12:02):
whole other thing. The officiating, and part of that is
just people love to complain about the.
Speaker 7 (12:06):
Chiefs, for better for worse.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
That's what you get every time out, but some of
the points of emphasis related to the offensive line alignments
and all of those kind of things. We'll see how
that gets adjudicated over the rest of the week. One
slate or did the Ravens just happen to be the
victim of circumstance on a bit highly publicized season opener.
(12:29):
Here in the rest of that backfield, you got Justice Hill.
Watched him a little bit runner receiver, not a guy
you want touching the ball eighteen to twenty times a game,
so that's a workload split. And then you got a
third guy. His name's John Kelly, not to be confused
with the guy he hosts a TV show.
Speaker 7 (12:44):
Used to be He was the season five host of
The Mole.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Oh see, I love The Mole because Anderson Cooper hosted
it and it was fun. And when you say John Kelly,
I think of David Caruso's character from nyp's Xtually Done
You with John Kelly. Then we get the Sipowitz. But yeah,
I didn't stand that guy. I was so glad when
they wrote him off the show. That was really cool.
I like Jimmy Smith's he was cool. Then they gave
(13:09):
me to save by the Bell guy. Then they gave
me a guy who was actually older but was on
TV as a kid in the eighties.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
And then I knew the.
Speaker 7 (13:16):
Show was over, and Alivron he was able to retire
off that money.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
And I had Metavoy who was shocked from from eight
and then out. And then I had Baldwin Jones, who
went on to be in charge of the entire Marvel
operation and agents and shield.
Speaker 7 (13:33):
He got Baldwin Jones and nicely done.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
I had Gallo Grady, who now was on Lifetime movies
and tons of Hallmark stuff.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
These are all my co stars.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
YAlO Grady and Kim Delaney spectacular stars of Yesteryear.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
But Jimmy was my favorite.
Speaker 7 (13:50):
Though he was a good guy, bring him shows.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
I like.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Jimmy had the big long trench coat and everything else.
Even saved the Star Wars universe. Well, I don't know
that he saved the story. I think he was just
allowed to be in that movie. I don't think he saved.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
That well, but he was also in the TV show.
I mean he saved the kids.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Okay, well, okay, if you're saying he saved okay, if
you're saying he physically saved the kids because he did.
Okay that I'm telling you, Well, there's always so much
saving the franchise.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Now, the franchise has its warts, a lot of anger
over the Acolyte getting canceled.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Hey you real quick, fun Star Wars.
Speaker 7 (14:27):
I've not watched a minute of that.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
No, well got canceled, so you don't have to. Okay,
so you know I buy all my my my t
shirts off of eBay, right, yeah, yeah, I saved the environment,
all the stuff.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
I love you.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
I mean, you had that thing that was like the
Homer Simpson sandwich that earlier.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Again, you got to listen to the whole show.
Speaker 7 (14:42):
Check out the podcast.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
I bought a T shirt today. That's a T shirt.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
The picture on it is a record, and it says
Empire Records, Empire nice and and it says you know
B side and the two you know they they on records.
You would give you two songs. Song one is I
Am Your Father and song two is no right, great
T shirt. So I buy it and the and I
noticed that the person I buy it from is from
(15:06):
Staten Island, which is where I grew up. And I go, hey,
thanks for great transaction.
Speaker 7 (15:10):
Did you buy it?
Speaker 2 (15:10):
From a family member.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
I don't know. That would suck if I did.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Hey, Jason, you owe me that money still, but we're
really I babysat you. So I said, hey, thanks, great transaction.
And by the way, you sold to a fellow Staten Islander.
Thanks so much. And she writes back, Oh my god,
that's awesome. My sister's from here. She also moved out
to California. To let you know, the big Star Wars fan,
I am my kids my I have twins in there
named Luke and Lea. Wait what And I was like, wow,
(15:37):
that's then I said, why did you sell the shirt?
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Then? Why did you sell the shirt?
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Well?
Speaker 4 (15:42):
I needed the money, okay, all right, just saying it
used to belong to someone, you know, it was sitting
in a pile that hadn't been worn in a while.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
I actually went to a wedding once where I met
parently you just have Big Star Wars. I met two
people sitting at the table with them and their kids' names.
They had three boys, Luke, Sky and Walker. Those are
their three kids, Luke, Sky and Walker.
Speaker 7 (16:05):
Their kids now hate them.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
I don't know. I think they're all Star Wars. I
think you have no choice but to be Star Wars
fans at that point.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
See, I think that's where you really adopt Spock and
courage just to piss your parents off.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Here's my kids.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
They get along with us really well, but they really
are I we.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Got our third that's bones over there, that Scottie is
over here?
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Why Spock? Fuck? What exit?
Speaker 8 (16:32):
Out?
Speaker 3 (16:32):
About a Fresca exit?
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Swalling down the Jason Smith Show and my best friend
Mike harmon Son that that's my big kits, all of
that aside. Yes, the plays tonight were the plays. But
if King Henry and King Henry, oh boy, that's gonna
be tough man. Suddenly the Ravens could be down below
a lot.
Speaker 7 (16:49):
Of I just like that. You created your own sound
effect there.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
But coming up next we're from Patrick Mahomes, who's a
little salty. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
And also we'll ask the big question about Mahomes after
tonight's victory. It's coming up next right here, Jason and

I'm not on staff face and all that.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
Yeah, Bill Belichick in the time you were gone has
a Snapchat? He has he has joined Snapchat. No, he
has only fans? No, Hey, I would sign up for it.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Hey, Bill, could you talk about what it's like to
face Peyton Manning. I'm just gonna sit here and watch.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Bill Belichick knowing what only fans is.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
I know what only fans. I got to say something
that's at least above board. Here a bleeping professional show man.
So are they show? Are the people on only fans?
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Wait to act like.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
We're that type of show Jason Bill, which I have
funn here, Oh we don't have fun ever it really
you just didn't have fun?
Speaker 7 (20:45):
Are you kidding? You tried to squash fun.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
I try to do Belichick. I'm trying to get people.
Every time you play Tears for Fears, you kill the fun.
Just you need to accept it's a good song.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Se No, it's not. Why does that have a billion players?
Speaker 1 (20:59):
It's not because people get upset and want to hear
sad songs for whatever reason.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Oh, I had a bad breakup, Let me hear, let
me hear. Everybody wants to rule the world. Everybody wants
to rule the world. It's not a happy song. True,
it's not a happy song.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
If you're gonna play a song that has a rough meaning,
that's a happy song. Play like I Melt with You.
That song you think, Oh, I met with you, that's great,
it's about to me. No, it's about two people having
sex when the atomic bomb is going off.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Wow, that's I melt with you. Really aren't a fun guy.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
That's how to live in the moment. Though it's said
that is true, I'm free information. A lot of people
think I'm very funny you think so. You're just trying
to pull off the fact that you can't think of
the social media where Bill Belichick joined Instagram?
Speaker 3 (21:40):
That actually is Instagram.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Let's go three and forty nine thousand followers.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
Meltics on Instagram.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Three posts, Hey we All evolve? Is his post high
post two? I'm post three on Instagram.
Speaker 7 (21:56):
Let's see the first one.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
That's what I think.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
My career in the NFL, I had built in opportunities
to express myself at a moment's notice. The circumstances are
different now, so here I am. I am in quote
in parenthetically surprisingly thrilled to announce my decision to utilize
social media platforms with the intention of connecting directly with
fans and the public. This debut was inconceivable a few
(22:22):
months ago, but exciting now. Follow me Bill Belichick on instaface.
Here's the uh, here's a translation for that. I used
to be the best head coach in the NFL, and
people would hang on my every word, and I treated
everyone with this Dane. Now I can't get a job
and I'm hanging out with Pat McAfee. He's hanging out
with a lot of people that's what that is. That's
(22:43):
I mean, I think if we could get if we
can get a check cut, we can get him to
hang out here.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
You know, you're probably right about that. You're probably We
got a chair right there, right next to me. Ah So,
Bill Belichick is on distant check.
Speaker 4 (22:56):
And he's welcome to join the crew at any point
to pontificate and talk about Zayflowers, Isaiah Likely, and Pat Mahomes.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
So we hit the Ravens part of it right, We
broke down the final two plays. We talked about the
big concern being Derrick Henry. Let's hear from Patrick Mahomes
little spicy following the game tonight, I'll get to the
big question surrounding Mahomes after the Chiefs come away with
a twenty seven to twenty victory. The Isaiah Likely touchdown
is overrule on the final play as he was out
of bounds, clearly out of bounds and the Chiefs escape
(23:31):
twenty seven to twenty. Part of the big deal tonight
for the Chiefs. Three touches for Xavier Worthy and like
big Game Xavier, that's his nickname now, big guys. Two touchdowns,
one rushing, one receiving. Let's hear Patrick Mahomes post game
from just a couple of minutes ago where he started
out talking about the game that Xavier Worthy had.
Speaker 8 (23:51):
I mean, he's like, he's so cool, calm and collected,
like all the time, you never even see the excitement
on him. But I mean he goes out there and
makes plays. Obviously we want to continue to use him
more and more. But I thought he had a great
day today, making big plays and big moments, and uh,
it was good to get the whole offense going and
kind of seeing where everybody's at.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
The game of been is right, Yeah, you can think
of that ass playing over there.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
I'm panting and watching the replay and saying.
Speaker 8 (24:19):
How Yeah, No, definitely nerve wracking. I mean just I mean,
could it look good from my angle on the sideline.
But then the first view you saw, you could see
the cleat. So that's a great football team. And I'm
sure we'll see him again at some point in the playoffs.
So now we're happy with the win now, and she
gotta wear white cleats next time. That's what that's my
that's my advice for him safe.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
We want to pass passing touchdown.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
You had the embassy like take me through your progressions.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Off Yeah, no, it was I think.
Speaker 8 (24:49):
I mean, it's definitely like you could see if it
was a busting coverage. I mean from where the corner
was playing. I like looked out there and I saw
how he was playing. I was like, I think he's
playing cover too, but the safety is not there, and
so I was gonna, like how these planets, like, I'm
gonna hurt the go anyways, just the one on one
matchup and the moment he played corn cover too, I
think everybody else played cover too too, and then there
wasn't a safety there. I just fired it to him
(25:10):
and he scored a touchdown. So, uh, definitely a busting coverage,
but that happens early in the year, and I just
had to take advantage of it. Yeah, that's definitely right's supposed.
Speaker 7 (25:18):
To run me.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
He was gonna run a go route. I was gonna
probably go there anyways.
Speaker 8 (25:21):
If it was man, just because I liked that, I
was going to try to match up it was off coverage, man,
he could get a good release, but uh it wasn't.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
So he was just running wide open a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
What do you see on that?
Speaker 8 (25:35):
Well, I mean obviously he got he got to write
the goal line, and I felt like I could just
give him a little shoulder in there, and I don't
know if I gave him much, but I feel like
I've moved him off directly in there, and then he
fell through, but like I fell through too, So I
feel like I scored a touchdown as well. So I
feel like I see at least like half a half.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
A touchdown like that before I did.
Speaker 8 (25:56):
I did it before in I think twenty eighteen versus
the Colts, and I Lineman hit me from behind and
country Tolman, never do it again. So luckily we scored
and I didn't get hit by anybody else, so he
probably wild tell me to never do it again again.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Never do it again again. Never where white white cleats.
Good advice, White. I mean, I wonder would they have
overturned that's a great you know, you think it's a
funny thing. But would they have been able to overturn
that if he wore white cleats? What would they be able.
Speaker 7 (26:24):
To see enough?
Speaker 1 (26:27):
Because that's the way you see the black You see
the black outline, so you can tell clearly, okay, he's
he's at a mouse.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
Now.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
I want to think maybe but maybe not. It's got
to be irrefutable evidence that he was out of bounds
because they called it a touchdown on the field. White cleats,
I mean really, I mean you think Patrick could have
kind of make it a joke, but white cleats really
might have changed that call.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
That's how great. White cleats might have changed that.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Ya.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
I think you have enough of a black outline for
the for the soul. But hey, maybe not. Maybe it's
all painted white. Maybe they're all custom jobs. I don't know,
but yeah, white cleats.
Speaker 7 (27:02):
There you go. I'll tell you no longer white white shoes.
Johnson's white shoes likely.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
Oh billy white shoes Johnson. That was always the best,
uh touchdown celebration when you were playing football as a kid.
Do the way and do it and hold the ball
up and just kind of move your legs side to side.
Speaker 7 (27:19):
Yeah, nice, and is always the best.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
I always loved ity.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
Man.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
Everything's got an origin story, sure you go, that's the
origin story for the touchdown dance. So it looks it's
a great point about that because it really is.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Hey boy, white cleats.
Speaker 7 (27:38):
Yeah yeah, but we got cheated out of a two
point conversion.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
We did.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
We Now they might have.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Yeah, they might have been able to talk Harball out
of it if it actually came to it and say hey,
let's go play him in ot But I wanted to
see that decision get made.
Speaker 7 (27:54):
And then as soon as.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
We we thought, we saw it live and then confirmed
it on redplay that it was getting white offs. No,
we're cheated now as far as Mahomes goes right, made
enough plays to win tonight, and you know, you had
a couple of big plays that could have been touchdowns
that were not caught Juju Smith Schuster or big runs
called back for holding penalties.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
But this and this is just.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Is Patrick Mahomes still the huge fantasy superstar that he
was two years ago, Okay because Tyreek Hill left in
twenty twenty two, and still Mahomes threw forty one touchdowns.
But now you saw the slowing down of Travis Kelcey
last year, and it's now a new crop of wide
receivers and they keep going through new crop every year.
(28:43):
And tonight not a great night, right near three hundred
yards one touchdown, didn't really run the ball as well,
you know, not to be prisoner of the moment with Mahomes,
but after going through last year and now here's the start.
Like I'm saying to myself, is he still that big
fantasy I mean he's only twenty eight, obviously, but is
(29:03):
he still that big fantasy superstar where you go, he's
one of the top two or three quarterbacks every week
and you're coming off a career with the first half. Wow,
it's amazing with thirty eight, thirty seven, forty one. But
the slow down last year and as you see the
decline of talent around him, where yes, he elevates and
(29:23):
wins games and then look, that's all they care about, obviously,
is winning games, winning super Bowls, even with a with
a with a lesser team last year, they still won
the Super Bowl. But fantasy wise, I look around and
I go, man, is Mahomes somebody I should sell high on?
Like is he still gonna be this great? Is he
still gonna be one of those I don't even have
to look and he's automatically in my lineup every week?
(29:44):
Like that's a that's a tough thing, man, because I
don't because last year he wasn't and you wanted to
think he was. Because you're really gonna sit Patrick Mahomes
and and and and play somebody else you're gonna Are
you gonna play Russell Wilson or you gonna play somebody
with a good matchup. But coming off of last year
and the start tonight, and yes there were drops or
were plays, but man, I wonder are those days of
him lighting up the scoreboard like that? Are they over?
Speaker 7 (30:07):
Are the good times really over? For good?
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Only one game with more than twenty points after the
week ten by a year ago, he did sit down
Week eighteen, and even sitting down Week eighteen, he still
finished ninth overall on the strength of a couple of
monster games Week seven of thirty four point nine performance.
But I got to think between Worthy, the return of
Hollywood Brown, Travis Kelce, who we know didn't start fast
(30:34):
last year, and they're gonna be judicious about his use
given his age, et cetera. You're gonna get some plays
out of the backfield from Pacheco. And when Clyde Edwards
Hilaire comes back and good thoughts to him. He's away
from the team, mental health being cited as as why
he's away, So hopefully he returns soon enough and back
(30:57):
to full strength. But we got enough weapons to where
there's gonna be some big days. I think you're just
gonna need to rive at lightning a little bit. And
the fact that you do have the end around that
you displayed with Xavier Worthy today and what a lightning
quick strike that was, as well as Pacheka on the ground. Yeah,
there's there's gonna be some things to tamp that down
(31:18):
a little bit. But I think on a week to
week basis the one thing that he gives you that
most other quarterbacks in the NFL don't. He's probably gonna
play most games because he's smart enough to live to
see another day, as opposed to most of these other
quarterbacks who do I know by weeke tend that they're
still upright.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
But but like if you if you're sitting there and saying, hey,
well I got my homes in Jordan Love, obviously I'm
gonna play ma homes this week now.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
But you also made a bad choice quarterbacks that I'm
the old if you have two quarterbacks now, you just.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
I made a mistake by getting the most talented guy
could as my backup.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
I made a mistake doing that.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Well, yeah I should not don't draft the best guy
I should.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
Zach Wilson Sam Darnold, that's who I should take it.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Well, But now you have to make that choice time
and time again, and you probably are weaker at a
different position because you went and drafted that backup earlier
than you needed to exit out.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
See what I did to you? Take the way there
you go? Not not often you get from a fantasy
football analyst. Take the worst quarterback you can.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Was not the point.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
The point was you don't want to be in a
situation where every week you're making a decision between two guys,
something happens and the guy gets hurt. You want to
have the next best guy at your backup. I understand that,
but you're also if you're now going to be in
a position where you're like, Wow, no, I got two guys.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Who do I take the worst guy?
Speaker 4 (32:40):
Take tru You take the take a top dotch guy,
and then I'm not rushing back for the second guy,
Like if I drafted Patrick Mahomes, I'm not drafting QB thirteen.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Just take the worst guy, Take the guy. Hey, who's
gonna have less points that that? That's take that day.
At least at least it.
Speaker 7 (32:57):
Takes me who doesn't listen at all, takes.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
It off your plate. No, that's what I chose to listen.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
To that you chose to decide. Look that the whole
message of that was yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
And I know who else heard that, Steve Disager, Who's
got what's trending right now in the wide world of sports?
Speaker 6 (33:11):
All I know is in our fantasy football league last year,
literally ten quarterbacks had a higher average points per game
than Patrick Mahomes even and Tua is another. It doesn't
matter if you lead the league in passing fantasy. If
you get the rushing yards added to that, that really kicks.
In Lamar Jackson tonight sixteen carries one hundred and twenty
two yards rushing, but Kansas City won the game over
(33:34):
Baltimore twenty six twenty because Isaiah likely painted it black.
His toe was out of the back of the end
zone on the final play would have been a TD reception.
The Ravens tight end did have nine receptions one hundred
eleven yards one touchdown in defeat Derrick Henry In early
TV run Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy two touchdowns and Rashi
(33:54):
Rice seven catches one hundred three yards. Kansas City's offense
average seven yards per play. Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson was
limited in practice with calf Titaness forty nine Ers running
back Christian McCaffrey was limited with a calf injury. Packer's
running back Marshawn Lloyd, with a hamstring injury, is questionable
for tomorrow against the Eagles. That game in Brazil. Eagles
(34:15):
linebacker Devin White out with a hand injury. Colts kicker
Matt Game is practiced due to a sports herne at
Bucks kicker Chase McLoughlin returned to practice full practice. Dolphins
defensive back Jalen Ramsey did not practice due to his hamstring.
Jets wide receiver Mike Williams will be on a snap
count to start the season coming off knee injury, and
(34:36):
Jets linebacker Hassan Reddick still has yet to report. Chargers
wide receiver dj Shark missed practice again with a hip injury.
The Rams plays defensive back Darius Williams on injury reserve
this Saturday on Fox TV in college football, Number three
Texas at number ten Michigan noon Eastern time. Friday night
on FS one, Duke at Northwestern at the US Open
(34:58):
Men's semis or tomorrow in the women Sammis Tonight wins
for Arena Sablenca and American Jessica Pagoula. Alex Morgan is
retiring from soccer. Her final match will be Sunday night
with San Diego. Her win loss record with the US
national team was one seventy seven and fifteen with thirty
two ties. The amazing stat and this should be somewhere
(35:20):
near the first paragraph when she passes many decades from now,
in her great US soccer career, you could have.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Just said the first line in a Wikipedia page. You
don't have to go no, I'm gonna really die.
Speaker 6 (35:31):
Bring it up this way, because this should have been
near the top in today's stories, and it was not.
When she scored a goal in a US game, the
American team never lost, literally never lost. Seventy six to
oh with ten ties. That is astounding wow. In the
WNBA tonight wins for New York and Washington. The late
(35:53):
game in MLB, Detroit hit a grand slam with two
outs in the ninth and one at San Diego four
to three. Colorado beat Atlanta three to one. San Francisco
with the run in the ninth edged Arizona three two.
Could not have been a better night for the New
York Mets, who won seven in a row. But we're
off tonight. They're now tied with Atlanta for the last
wild Cards, but Philly's won their fifth straight.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
Back to you, thank you, Steve O.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Coming up next. Already, the war between the Chiefs and
the Ravens has been lit. Way do we tell you
what one of the big Ravens stars said postgame about
the Chiefs. It's mustlessen radio, It's next Jason and Mike.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon live from the
Tirack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
Get out, it's not where replay that. It's not replay that.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
You want some spice added to Ravens Chiefs as if
you didn't need enough. Isaiah likely who had he maybe
warn white cleats, maybe would have been a touch possibly
instead he wore black cleats. End it was not a
touchdown on the final play of the game, so close,
Chiefs win twenty seven to twenty so clearly it was
(37:20):
out of bounds and Likely didn't. I mean, look, it
was three inches, but you could see it.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
It wasn't. There was no controversy about that he had
not come down. Don't know if that what.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
Prompted Isaiah Likely's response to a question about the Chiefs
and how they played tonight.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
But this is the new Ravens star tight end to
come in. You thought he's going to split the job
with Mark Andrews. No, Mark Andrews is basically now a
blocking tight end. Congratulations if you have him in fantasy, yay.
Likely with one hundred yard game and a touchdown would
have been over one hundred yard game and two touchdowns.
Here's what he thinks about the game the Chiefs played tonight.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
This is probably the worst game.
Speaker 10 (38:03):
We don't play all year, so this is the best
that they got.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
I mean, good luck in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
This is.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
I like you if this is the best they got,
good luck in the post.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Sees anybody tap him on the shoulder and say, hey,
it's game one.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
I love Isaiah Likely. I love Isaiah Likely. Mad you're
mad you lost, and you say yeah, we'll see you
in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (38:26):
I like the saltiness. They look you need to doing,
folks to pipe up and have a little bit of
chestiness to them.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
It's it's great. Look it's it's it's great. But let's
look at reality for a second. Is that does he
really think this is the best the Chiefs had? It's
Week one. Everybody looks rough week one, even the Ravens
had time to look rough.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
The Chiefs play a B or B minus game and
they still win, and they still beat a team that
allegedly is still very good. You gotta wait and see
how the season goes to see if the Ravens are
still as good as they were last year. But this
is but if this is not something that emboldens anybody.
If anything, this makes you even more distress of this season.
(39:08):
Because if this Chiefs team can still win with a
B or B minus game, because that's what it was,
with penalties and drop touchdowns. If they can still beat
you with a B or B minus game, what's gonna
happen when they really get going? Because you know they're
gonna get going because they've won three Super Bowls, they've
been to four. They're going for a three beat. I'm
(39:28):
pretty sure they're gonna get it going and they're not
gonna They're not gonna have games like this. It's week
one of the regular season. I get you're upset, but
just think about it when if they're showing, hey, we
can still beat really good teams with the beer b
minus game, which is what they did last year. Didn't
have the most talented roster in the NFL. There were
a few teams with more talent than the Chiefs. Than
the Chiefs did, the forty nine Ers had more talent,
(39:50):
the Eagles had more talent. Arguably the Bills had more talent.
Maybe this year the Texans have more talent. But overall,
if you can do that, that means that means other
thirty one teams are going great. They're still that good.
They're still that good to beat us with a subpar
game and we play a game better. And Lamar Jackson
really had a mid season kind of game. Yes, he
(40:12):
missed a couple of throws, yet he missed a throw
with Zay Flowers Rashan Bateman at the end. Yes he did,
but he's still near three hundred yards over one hundred
yards rushing. It was a very good Lamar Jackson type performance.
It's not like boy Lamar was terrible in anything. It's
like you think that maybe it's it's even worse for
other teams after seeing the Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
Tamah, I mean when we look at the Ravens side
of it, just real quick, the idea of Lamar Jackson
taking off and running, the number of design runs, the
ineffectiveness to get Derek henriyoff, and again you hang a
star on. If it's all all week one and you're
playing the defending champs, They've got their own warts that
they need to worry about.
Speaker 7 (40:50):
There.
Speaker 4 (40:51):
The fact that you know, Warren Sharp pointed out in
the first half eighteen bass attempts, only two of them
traveled beyond four yards four yards play beyond the line
of scrimmage. Right, So you have all that, and the
Chiefs have one thing. They've got one thing that no
other team can match. If fifteen is Upbrighting, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
As long as that guy is still out there.
Speaker 4 (41:15):
And flinging it around, and Andy Reid with his nuggies
and whatever, is still making the call and keeping this
squad together.
Speaker 7 (41:24):
Good luck.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
The road still goes through arrow it.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
And I really thought, you know, I really thought we'd
get more Chiefs commercials tonight. Yeah, we get a new
fresh batch of Chiefs commercials.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Give it time motto.
Speaker 3 (41:35):
I thought we get a new Auto one.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
Yah.
Speaker 7 (41:38):
I don't know. Do we see more Jason Kelsey today?
Speaker 3 (41:40):
Oh yeah, we did see a bit of that.
Speaker 4 (41:41):
Yeah, okay, all right, all the YouTube TV stuff right,
gotta hit that season ticket going.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
Exit out bout of Fresco exit Swollen Domer. Best of
