Speaker 1 (00:30):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Welcome inside our four tonight where boy, we
just watched some crazy night in the NBA and the
NHL Oilers winning over time. They're out of the Western
Conference finals, Timberwolves eliminate the Warriors. We have a big
(00:55):
Warriors take coming up in about fifteen minutes. And oh,
by the way, NFL schedule release day, so we were
dealing with a lot of stuff today, Mike Harmon, there
was a lot of stuff on our play.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Well we always do.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
We don't kick it down the road and you know,
clean it up tomorrow or next week.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
No, the show is now, the action is now.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
So many things, so many of the schedule release videos
to watch. I just turned tight shirt onto his team,
the Cleveland Browns and the ELF and what he had going.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
Some magical elves. I mean there's a lot going on, man,
magical elf. No, seriously pull up their schedule release. It's crazy.
He's doing all sorts of.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Sleight of hand like he was running the NBA Draft lottery.
It's crazy.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
What do you think we have here? We have a
good team.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
No, but we're gonna have magical elves that are gonna
make things look so good.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
Like Elf on the shelf. We're gonna have that.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
My kids were terrified at the Elf of the shelf
when they.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Were really small, and then I got one that had
a bear sweater on, and then it really went went
off the rails.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Well, yeah, you put a bear sweat or anything, it's
not gonna be the same.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Now. I had battling elves until this year.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Until this year, would Caleb Williams all get ready for
a forty touchdown season for Caleb Williams?
Speaker 3 (02:16):
What about a bench on a bench?
Speaker 5 (02:18):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (02:18):
I gotta yeah, Well they do show them they're there.
Speaker 6 (02:23):
Oh, that's a real thing.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
It is the thing.
Speaker 6 (02:25):
I thought Frostburg just made it up. I'm like, dude,
that's a that's a million.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Dollar idea like the Oilers final.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Yeah, well it actually happened. I want to tell people
it didn't happen because it did happen. Oh yeah, I
kind of did.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
There's four people in Edmonton watching. It doesn't really count.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Oh, they'll be calling me to come on tomorrow with
Edmonton hundred percent. Oh Jason, Sammy Kappen. It's getting scored,
You're gonna come on.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Now.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
I will say this, as far as series ending goals go, yeah, yeah,
it kind.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Of hung in the crease forever and you're saying, how
is no one jumping on this puck?
Speaker 6 (02:59):
What is happenings.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Sprawl has no idea where the puck is.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
It's right there.
Speaker 6 (03:05):
It's right there, man, I'll tell you.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
But look, yes, today was NFL schedule release day, and
there's all kinds of big highlights. I will say this
before we get into a couple of big takeaways here.
The way they do it, I'm not the biggest fan
because I only sort of like the way they slow
release things, where we're gonna do it over the course
of like four or five days, where like last week,
(03:30):
we get hey, Opening Night's gonna be Cowboys and Eagles Okay,
that's great. But then, like as far as yesterday and
today went, a lot of people that I pay attention to,
they have a lot of followers on social media, are
putting out, hey, this is this schedule, this is what
the schedule looks like week one, and it's all wrong.
I'm like, okay, So, like I saw a couple of
people tweet, Hey, here's the NFL schedule week one, Browns
(03:51):
at Jets week one. I'm like, wow with the Browns. Okay,
Well but no, no, no, it's the it's the Steelers
and the Jets week one.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Yeah, but what was the engagement on that tweet? Yeah,
we did pretty well.
Speaker 6 (04:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
I mean it's so it's it's it's kind of hard
to know what's what. And that's the one thing I
would say in this age of information, that's something that
clearly can get out of control and you don't know
what to pay attention to. Yes, they save everything until
the release, you know, at five o'clock West coast, eight
o'clock East coast.
Speaker 6 (04:18):
But I kind of feel like.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
You need to take advantage of the day, and the
NFL has always taken advantage of days on the calendar,
like they could have it be a two night thing, right,
Like you want a half hour special or an hour
special night one where they give they tell you here's
all the the the primetime games and the games on
the holidays. WHOA really, Yeah, we're gonna be all the
(04:41):
primetime games and the holiday games on Monday night. Let's
just say, for argument's sake, Monday night. We get that, right,
So there are's a schedule, we see where everybody's playing
on national TV when it comes to the the the
network games and the primetime games, and then the next
day the rest of the schedules come out all the
local games for everybody.
Speaker 6 (04:59):
You see where they're playing, right, Like, I think if
you did it that way, you.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Could then present it with with with two big nights
and two television programs where people watch and you get
the information out because right now it's kind of piecemeal
and you kind of lose the impact of it.
Speaker 6 (05:12):
Where Like because.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
I'll tell you, like earlier part of the day, like
the Giant schedule was released like four hours before the
Giant schedule was announced officially, Like there's too many leaks,
Like Okay, I guess it's the Giant schedule because the
new York Post has it they don't have the Jets
schedule yet, but here's a giant schedule, so okay. So
I kind of feel like that they could do that
a little bit cleaner and and it would be better
(05:34):
off for the NFL. Hey, Monday night primetime games come
out next day, rest of the games come out boom,
and there's your schedule released over two days.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
I think you try to steal every bit of the
calendar you can, right, I mean, it's no coincidence. You
also have everybody standing for the NFL, you know, as
we're in the midst of some great NBA playoff games,
as we get towards the conference finals, it's like, oh,
by the way, remember, no matter what they do, no
matter how exciting it is, they don't rate like any
(06:04):
NFL experience does. And the fact that this has become
a cottage industry that each team tries to outdo each other.
I don't know if there's an award that goes out
or what with the schedule released videos and the movies
and getting actors and fans of teams into play, including
(06:24):
players in their offseason. You go and you just try
to win it as best you can. That it is
at a two or three day event with a bunch
of celebrities sitting around yucking it up. Hell, you can
do it like the draft lottery. We've got a representative
from each team. Let's have some fun with this, you know.
And today, Hey, did you get any Now? I'm still
(06:44):
in the green room waiting for my first primetime appearance
to be you three teams, you get nothing.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Now. The other thing take away from this, right, seeing
that the big network games and the big primetime games,
the Chiefs and the Eagles have the most standalone games,
which are the big primetime games, whether it's on a holiday,
Sunday night, Monday night, they have eight and seven apiece.
And the Cowboys, as you see, they're the well, the
Cowboys are basically the official holiday team of the NFL.
(07:15):
We're on Thanksgiving, We're on Christmas, We're on Opening Night. Right,
And this is something I am absolutely with because I'm
one of those people that doesn't think every team needs
to be on once a year. You don't need to
do that, right, everybody gets a game except for three
teams this year. Half the league doesn't need to be
on primetime games. They don't because you want to be
(07:35):
able to make sure that you are maximizing the exposure
of the league and where you used to be where hey,
we used to be able to put any game on
television people will watch. Yeah, you could still put Jags
Titans on Thursday night and get ten million people.
Speaker 6 (07:47):
But is that what you want?
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Or do you want a Thursday night game where eighteen
million people are gonna watch? And that's where the NFL
seems to be headed, because there's more games this year
with those teams that have that desire are out there
that no, no, no matter what, I can't skip this game,
right again, eight and seven for the Chiefs and the Eagles,
but the Cowboys, the Lions, the Steelers, all of these
(08:09):
teams and even the Dolphins, right have like five games,
but half the league we don't need to see, right,
because if it comes to we're not under served for
football anymore. Right, we get enough of football. So because
we're overserved with football, you want to make sure that, Hey,
I may be overserved, but I gotta watch a Sunday
night game because it's the Eagles and the Cowboys, or
(08:30):
I gotta watch the Thursday night game because it's the
Bills and the Chiefs. You want to make sure that
those are games you get to. And the NFL is
really smart because they get that. Okay, we could put
anybody on against the Eagles opening night of the regular season,
but we put the Cowboys on, and we're gonna get
forty million people to watch, and suddenly, boom, the NFL
is healthy than it's ever been, and we're putting games
on Like Look, the NFL wants to sell and wants
(08:52):
to sell their television rights for more and more money
as time goes on, and the bigger games you put on,
the more people are gonna watch teams they care about,
and the more money it's gonna be make. It's great, right,
we told you the other night, it's an incredibly genius
move to put the Cowboys on. Keep the Cowboys on.
Thanksgiving last year, thirty eight and a half million people
watch an awful Cowboys team and an awful Giants team.
(09:13):
Doesn't matter, thirty eight and a half million people watch
the Cowboys. I put the Cowboys on every week if
I could, I put the Cowboys, the Chiefs, and the
Eagles on every single week. I put the Bills on
every single week. All these really good teams I put
the Lions on every single every Sunday, Monday, Thursday, two
or three of those teams are gonna play. I'm gonna
have one of those teams in every game because that's
what people are gonna watch. And the NFL seem to
(09:35):
be picking up on that because yeah, they still have you. Hey, yeah,
we got the Jets and the Patriots mid season on
Thursday night. You could really get a better game than that.
You really could. NEI of those teams are exciting, right
maybe in best case scenario, they're around five hundred, but
it's football on a Thursday. They're getting away from that. Slowly,
they're getting away from that. I mean it, half the
league doesn't need to be in primetime games.
Speaker 6 (09:57):
You can. And this is the.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Price of being good, right, Sorry that you're hey, it's
too many prime to We're playing Monday, we're playing Sunday,
we're playing Sunday, we're playing Thursday. This is the price
you pay for being a really popular team that people
want to watch. And if we get to the point where, hey,
these teams are gonna make a little bit more money
in the in the in the negotiation. Okay, we got
to that point now, that's a ways down the road,
but I have no problem with putting fewer teams on
(10:21):
as long as it's teams you want to see every Sunday, Monday, Thursday,
on the holidays.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Yeah, it's always. You get into the minutia of these
television deals and as they get parsed out, more streaming
services bid for larger portions of the two seventy two
PI plus the postseason. Right where we're talking about selling
off individual games to the highest bidder, then then certainly
you're gonna get all those wins from the regular season perspective.
(10:48):
Chiefs are at seven games starting with that that opener
against the Chargers, that'll be on that one's the YouTube, right,
so get everybody basically your teaser trailer, right. It's the
old used to joke about it. When we did the
live stats at Yahoo.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
We gave you the first for free.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
We were the crack dealers because you needed live stats updated,
and then you went back week two.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
My league doesn't have it.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Well, you can get it for one hundred and twenty
four for the whole league, or buy it for yourself
for ten dollars for the entire year. And you sold
unit after unit after unit. So that's what YouTube's doing right.
Come into YouTube TV subscribe because you've got to have
the base package is eighty three bucks a month plus
your NFL package over the top. Talk about your entry
(11:33):
and gateway opportunity there not to mention you. Now I'll
get to pick your grid. So if you want to
have NYPD blue on one of the four box, you
can do that.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
But so the Chiefs lead with seven.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Cowboys are at six and again always subject to change
because the beauty of the flexibility that has been argued
into these and negotiated in is that if the teams
that you love are actually good, guess what we're going
north towards ten before it's all said and done for
the Chiefs and for the cow Boys, and then you've
got a bunch of teams log jammed at five appearances,
(12:03):
Chargers with five, the Lions and Bills. If the Bills
are good. Look, they got Allen Iverson to do the
schedule release. He just held up the schedule as a
favorite to Josh Allen Michael Pennix Junior. If there are
any good because the division may not be, you've got
an opportunity. The Eagles are at five would you set
the over under at you know, five and a half
(12:24):
for the year. I think I would that they're probably
if things play to form and they're healthy, that they'll
get flexed into another game before it's all said and done. Meanwhile,
the Dolphins and the forty nine ers might see things
go the other direction. So so, but you have the
opportunity to do it. And this is where you know
you go best to brand, best to breed, because you're
(12:45):
trying to expand the piots. We were talking about earlier
in the show about the International Games and how much
more money and more lucrative that is a business for
the NFL. We see it every year with all these
giant commission trips, by fan bases, by the teams themselves
and the league and how they promote. So all of
(13:05):
that to say, yeah, you're trying to figure out how
to expand the pie. It's not about cutting it up
into different slices. No, damn it. I want the extra large.
You tried to put a large in front of you.
Let's go, let's keep supersizing this damn thing and making
more money. And how do you do that? You give
the best brands, the big cities. Sorry, smaller markets. Sorry losers,
(13:28):
you know, the teams with no w's and no following
you you're gonna be you know, etched out of these
things because the Thursday games aren't like they once were.
Once upon a time, it was a novel concept that
everybody was gonna be seen in primetime.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Guess what.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
You can buy anything you want in any form to
see your team.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Right.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
Once upon a time that was a beautiful thing. Hey,
you're gonna get that one AFC North Battle. Nah, forget it.
You can watch that any week by paying a couple
extra dollars. So what do we re give Amazon the
bang for their buck? Big brands and a Blender special
in the third quarter?
Speaker 6 (14:08):
Extra large pine exit?
Speaker 1 (14:13):
How about a fresca at Swollen Dome. Jason Smith Mike
Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Speaker 6 (14:19):
Hot. Not every team needs to be on TV.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
The Jets don't need to be on them. I'm not
saying my team. No, the Jets don't need to be
on don't need.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
To be another team that may get flexed out of them.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
They have like the.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Year the Jet.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
The Jets have fourteen one pm games on Sunday.
Speaker 6 (14:35):
That's how much.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
They're off the rate they have fourteen one pm games
on Sunday. It doesn't get more generic than that. Okay, yeah,
there we go. Uh. Coming up next, we'll hear from
Steve Kerr the Warriors season is over. Uh and the
big change that Steph Curry should make the NBA have to.
Speaker 6 (14:54):
Implement for next season. What is it?
Speaker 1 (14:56):

Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. I'll
tell you what, even though the Knicks loss tonight and
I'm fine.
Speaker 6 (16:49):
I'm you're not fine.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
You keep bringing it up.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Trust me. I want people ask I want. I'm absolutely fine.
I told you last night a bunch of times. Ask you,
they're gonna lose tonight. You guys don't believe me. None
of you believe me, so I gotta tell you I
don't believe You're okay.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
I believe you know.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
The door is now getting kicked back open or it's
being hatcheted like Jack Nicholson in the Shining where he's
gonna say, here's Derek.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
White and he's going to beat your ass.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Yeah. I told you last night a bunch of times
the Knicks are gonna lose tonight because two things are
gonna happen.
Speaker 6 (17:22):
The Knicks are going to.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Kind of halfway show up and they're well, if we
can steal this game at the end. Yeah, but you know,
especially if the Celtics quit, but they didn't obviously because
they're the champs. Okay, fine, And I knew how the
game was going to be officiated. I knew it was
gonna be. I've become on man. You foul Jalen Brunton out.
The guy's fouled out once all year. For most of
the game, doesn't matter. The Celtics are the champs. The
(17:46):
Celtics are the champs. They have the right to win
one game at home in a series. And you know,
I'm just saying the Knicks are gonna lose at least
one game on the road in the playoffs. First, Yeah,
he's not even gonna play on front. Luke Corny is
gonna plays.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Cortnette was dominating.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
He's gonna play. He's gonna take all of the Porzingis minutes.
That's absolutely happening.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
But and Sean, I mean, they said the man couldn't breathe.
Speaker 6 (18:18):
But if you.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Believe in fate, if you believe in fate, it's gonna
be an absolute Knicks final four in the NBA, Right,
It'll be the Knicks. Okay, the Pacers who are synonymous
with Knicks playoffs because of all the series they've had
the last twenty five years, the Timberwolves with Julius Randall
and Dante DiVincenzo and the Thunder with Isaa Hartenstein.
Speaker 6 (18:42):
It's a Knicks final four.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
It's like a holiday, It's like a Christmas movie on Hallmark.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
It's a very Knicks final four.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
It's the Knicks, their biggest rival players they traded away
or let go in last offseason.
Speaker 6 (18:54):
That's who's gonna.
Speaker 7 (18:55):
Be balanced at some point. Are you okay because there's
other Knicks players.
Speaker 6 (19:01):
Uh? Oh, I never thought about that.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
I'm just thinking them.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
No, no, nocusely, I'm thinking more how now the Knicks
are gonna slay all their dragons, right, Like, we're gonna
beat the Pacers, We're gonna sweep them in four. Uh.
Then we're probably gonna beat the t Wolves. We've gotta
beat Randall and and and Devincenzo. Hey yeah, Hartenstein's but yeah, yeah, okay,
they'll pright. No, No, that's how it's gonna go. Nick
Knicks win Friday, Nicks beat the Pacers, Nickson four, and
then the Knicks win the NBA Finals and they they
(19:26):
send Julius, Randall and de Vincenzo home. That's how it's
gonna work. It's a Knicks redemption, it's a lot of
It's an all Knicks final.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
You had a lot of time to just stool over
the course of the day, didn't you. Yeah, it's all
trying to justify and get it all wrapped around in
your head.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
Look look at the Knicks rotation from last year. Highly
represented it all the final four teams in the NBA this.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Year, because we could really do this probably each year
if you really wanted to take the time, given the
way guys move around via trade and free agency anymore,
that you really could do the two degrees of separation
quite often.
Speaker 6 (20:04):
Yeah, and forget about x x nick now good. It's
x nick still good. But that's ex is still good.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
And once they win, it becomes x nick now better.
Speaker 6 (20:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Yeah, well, well x jet now good is a thing,
but x nick still yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
No, that'll live forever, there's no question about it. Jason,
how do you beat the Celtics first?
Speaker 6 (20:23):
Okay, one more game? Oh more game? One more game Friday?
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Hey, well, maybe I won't buy food on Fraudy do.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
We get to live stream that Friday? What do you think?
Speaker 6 (20:32):
I don't know. I don't know that you guys deserve
food on Friday? Anyway. I don't think you do. I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Oh not you Harmon, But you know, Frostbur keeps jumping
on and off the Knicks bandwagon, and Tysher just wants
to have a.
Speaker 6 (20:42):
Funny one liner.
Speaker 7 (20:43):
Ha ha.
Speaker 6 (20:44):
How about you beat the Celtics first?
Speaker 3 (20:45):
I said, the truth.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
Well, he was asking from a place deep in his heart.
I mean, he's a thoughtful guy. It's been part of
the team a while. I mean he's part of the
extended mutant family that we've cultivated here at Fox Sports Radio,
as well as all of you listening globally on the
iHeart Radio app of course. But I really do think
that was a level of concern for you, and he
was trying to make sure you were okay.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Yeah, and you should be impressed that he knows the
Celtics are still around.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Damn right, that's a ty shirt.
Speaker 6 (21:11):
What's one of the uniform colors of the Celtics.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
What do you mean one?
Speaker 6 (21:15):
Well, there's two colors. What's one of them?
Speaker 3 (21:16):
Well, they had green and white tonight.
Speaker 6 (21:18):
Oh did Frost lean over and say green and white?

Speaker 1 (21:25):
It just sounds like you're spending money that you won

Speaker 3 (21:28):

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Bought the ticket. I just know the numbers coming up.

Speaker 3 (21:35):

Speaker 1 (21:37):

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Okay, then hey, good luck with the vending machine. Justin
enjoy that.
Speaker 6 (21:52):
Well.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
I am kind of curious. What constitute's good?
Speaker 4 (21:55):
Now?
Speaker 3 (21:56):
We got to set. We got to set the bar.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
Let's go.
Speaker 6 (21:59):
Let's see we had we have, we have chicken.
Speaker 7 (22:02):
I'm bringing this delicious beezz. You'd goin to melt your pallettsknocks.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
At the door.
Speaker 6 (22:10):
Wait a minute, I never I know, I I okay,
not a sponsor.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
We wanted to try I wanted to try the stuff
crust Dominoes that one time. Okay, so one time I
wanted to try the domino stuff crust. One time I
did and it.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Wasn't you get no.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
You went full Joaquin Phoenix on that. But the entire
time your thumb was no, you're kidding.
Speaker 6 (22:30):
That thing was That thing was gone.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Man, that was I tell you that stuff crust be
and it's pretty cheap, like Dominoes really wants you to
buy their stuff crust beets like, but it's like wow,
it's really inexpensive.
Speaker 6 (22:39):
That's great.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
More cheese in the crust than on the pie.
Speaker 6 (22:42):
That's okay.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Anywhere anywhere you want to put cheese on on on
some bread with some sauce, I'll eat. It doesn't matter
where you put anywhere. You can put it on the
underside and I'll still eat. Now it's the underside, you
can Hey, you could put it on the cardboard if
you want.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
A pie.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Oh, I'll tell you if Benny, Benny is the only
one in this house likes cheese as much as I do.
No Benny, Okay, just to tell you real quick about
bet no, no, no, no. We have we have a refrigerator
that has four doors. Right, it has the two doors
for the refrigerator and the two doors for the Uh.
Because it's on the bottom. Pam wanted a freezer on
(23:22):
the bottom right, So the two doors on the top
for the refrigerator, the two.
Speaker 6 (23:25):
Doors on the bottom of the freezer. Yeah, the down
right exactly.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Well, it's it's healthy. When you lean in to get
ice cream, you're actually losing weight. So the cheese we
keep in the bottom left drawer, right, So I go
to the fridge and I open the refrigerator on the
left side. Nothing of refrigerator on the right side, nothing
open the freezer on the bottom right, nothing but I
(23:49):
open the bottom left and all of a sudden, he's
standing behind me looking up, going, that's a cheese drawer.
Speaker 6 (23:57):
I know that's a cheese I heard it.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
I got that to He knows which is the cheese
drawer that opens in the refrigerator. Like I've taught him
really well. He knows when they recognize that's the cheese drawer.
Dad is there. He's the weak one in the house.
He always gives me food. I'm going to get something
from him.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
I'm not even mad. I'm impressed one.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
Percent is he is absolutely mad. He is.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
He's a smart dog. He knows where the cheese is.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
Now.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Tonight we watch the Golden State Warriors go home. They
lose in five to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The one thing
that the NBA really needs to look into, right. They
need to do this because it's it's a it's a
big thing that is really affecting the plays and maybe
Steph Curry's injury is the final tipping point for this.
(24:44):
But the NBA's on their to do list. They have
to do something to try to combat these injuries in
the playoffs that happened to superstars every year. This is
not just a one or two year thing now, this
is a five or ten year trend. Wherever year, by
the time you get to the conference finals, you could
put together an all NBA team.
Speaker 6 (25:05):
I don't mean decide, you could put together absolute all.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Stars, first and second team all NBA guys from who
gets hurt and misses time in the playoffs. And it's
killing the product, right this just this year with Tatum
and Lillard and Lebron who was gonna wind up missing
games and Curry misses basically the entire second round of
the Warriors go home like these are all NBA players
And this is again, it's a five to ten year thing.
(25:29):
And basically you hear the coaches talk about it. Steve
Kurt talked about it and said, you know, what are
you gonna do? Right, It's part of the process, it's
part of the what goes on. We have to deal
with it. And that's what coaches say, Well, that's the
coach part of it. Coaches have to deal with injuries
that they know are coming, and it's injuries to star players.
No other sports league has as many big injuries to
(25:50):
stars in the playoffs than the NBA was.
Speaker 6 (25:52):
You can say, well, the NBA is very physical.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
Nothing's more physical than the NFL, and stars don't get
hurt like this.
Speaker 6 (25:58):
I mean it is. It is five or six or
seven or eight of.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
The best players in the league that wind up missing
all kinds of time and get hurt, not just for
the playoffs, but for the next season as well. The
NBA needs to NFL the hell out of keeping guys
healthy because you can you can debate the merits of
the NFL and why they want to, you know, do
stuff for player safety, but the bottom line is they
want to keep guys on the field, so they do
(26:22):
things like, well, how do we do this? Well, if
the if the kickoff is too dangerous of play, we
have to figure out a way to make it safer. Right,
If concussions are too big a deal, we got to
figure out a way to limit concussions on players.
Speaker 6 (26:34):
If the if the.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Horse collar tackle or the hip drop tackle is something
that you know, because the players have gotten too big
and too fast, we have to outlaw that. Let's outlaw that.
Like at least the NFL is looking for ways to
try to keep players healthy. Now, there's no guarantee to
do it, but the NBA has got to find a
way to say, well, we need to do some things
to try to ensure that as many stars stay healthy
in the plays. It's a long season. Eighty two games
(26:58):
is too long, the playoffs are too physical. The players
have gotten too big playing on such a small area
of court right ninety four.
Speaker 6 (27:05):
Feet, and the players how they've grown in the last
twenty years. Usually sports change with the.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Times when that goes right, Like I said, players have
gotten too big too fast. In the NFL, they're outlawing
tackles and the way defensive players can make plays. So
there's got to be some way where the NBA's got
to nfl the hell out of this to say, what's
some things we can do that can at least potentially
keep these guys on the court for longer times. And
and look, I'll be the first one to tell you,
(27:30):
I know, I don't know what the solution is, but
I'm the idea guy. Hey, you know what, we gotta
find a way to do this. Let's talk to doctors,
let's talk to the players association. Let's figure out ways
to do this. Because it just kills the product when
superstars are sidelined. What are the TV ratings for this
Warriors Tea Wolves see series gonna be They're gonna be
really low because Steph Curry's not playing. He's one of
(27:51):
the biggest superstars in the league.
Speaker 6 (27:52):
Game one, I'm sure it was big right.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
They had game they had they had the Knicks Celtics
Game one set for three thirty in the Game three
set for three thirty in the afternoon of Saturday, because
they wanted to put the Warriors on at night. Like whoa, whoa, whoa, No,
Steph Curry. If they could do that again, they would
do that again. But Steph is that biggest star. We're
gonna put them on at night. The Nicks are on
during the day. Like the NBA's gotta find a way
(28:14):
to try to keep these stars on the floor because
it's it's too much of a trend now and the
names are too big that wind up getting knocked out.
If this happened in the NFL and you're talking about
five or six of the best quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers,
edge rushers in the NFL getting knocked out in the playoffs,
be damn sure the NFL would do something about keeping
(28:35):
these guys on the field. The NBA can't just shrug
their shoulders. They need some sort of program to try
to figure out how they're gonna keep these guys healthy.
So I got the idea out there. Now the NBA
has got to run with it.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Well.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
It's a big thing, the undertaking between the players association
and of course the league itself, the players being proactive.
What are we doing differently training wise? We talk about nutrition,
how much guys put into their bodies each year, but
some of it is just all right, wear and tear
and use. We talk about the length of the season.
Do they need to reduce the number of games in
(29:08):
the first round of the playoff? We talk about how
much you get into international play this year. How much
does participating in Olympic trials and through the Olympics effect,
you know, your fatigue, your body as you roll through
heavier minutes, lack of rotations for some of these teams,
high nicks, high pacers, things of that nature that maybe
(29:28):
come back to get you right. For some of these players.
We're talking about guys that are a little longer in
the tooth, and it's all relative because by all you
know imagination, they're young men. This is not forty five
year old Rich Hill signing his minor league deal getting
back on the mound. Good for him, make me feel young.
I'll send you, I don't know, some chocolate. But the
(29:50):
idea of you know, Lillard and these guys have played
a lot. There's a lot of miles on those legs.
Right for Steph Curry, we had those injury concerns when
he was first coming out into the NBA and really
didn't manifest themselves too much. But now this you talk
about the size of the court versus the size of
the players. Been arguing that for hockey forever, right in
(30:10):
terms of spreading things out, letting the skaters skate, but
fewer collisions, fewer the log jams like we see under
the bucket here in the NBA. And today you go
to your Knicks game that got highly physical at different points.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Hell, Josh hart I had a massive.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Head wounds minute right back out, static didn't miss a minute,
stayed in the game, all that blood stayed in the game,
cleaned up the blood, well, he did, and he would
become the embodiment of it. I'm sure that's on the
back page of the fish wrap for tomorrow morning. But
all of it to say, I mean, it's a multi
pronged approach. Also, you know your equipment, what are the shoes?
(30:48):
Are the shoes getting the job done? Are guys going
lower instead of high tops? Does that matter? Like all
all of these things come into play.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
The torque.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
You know, we always talked about it for Zion Williamson
with the size. You know his size, But how much
of that is player to player, you know, just a
different magnification of the same problem. So trying to talk
through all of it, multi pronged approach and certainly worth
the investment of time and resources to figure it out
for the betterment of your product.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
Exit.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
How about a fresca at Swollen Dome Jason Smith Mike
Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
Speaker 6 (31:24):
Let's find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
So someone who's been called the Josh Hart of Fox
Sports Radio, even with a gaping open head wound, she
would still tell you what's trending. It's Manzi Blagna's facts facts.
Speaker 8 (31:36):
I'm not tapping out with a head wound with a
broken finger. I'm a stay in the game. I'm gonna
take the free throws. I'm a stay in the game.

Facts shut the Clippers, they lose.
Speaker 6 (31:45):

Speaker 8 (31:47):
I'm staying at work.
Speaker 6 (31:48):
Facts.
Speaker 8 (31:48):
I might be crying, and not because of the head wound,
but facts, I'm staying in there. The timb Rhims are
headed back to the Western Conference Finals. How to defeating
the Warriors went twenty one to one ten. Leagus Randall
led the way twenty nine points, eight rebounds, Anthony Edwards
at twenty two points, seven rebounds and twelve assists. This
is head coach of the Timberwolves, Chris Finch after the game.
Speaker 9 (32:10):
The challenge we laid down to our guys from day
one was quite simple. It was one question, you know,
were you a Western Conference Finals team or were you
a team that just happened to make the Western Conference Finals?
And there's only one way to prove that, go out
and do it again. And that was our mission all year,
and you know, took a lot of growing pains, but
(32:32):
the teams come together at the right time and playing
its best basketball.
Speaker 8 (32:36):
So I love that. Were you a team that just
got there? Or did you deserve to be there Chris Finch,
head coach of Minnesota. The Celtics kept their season alive
with the one twenty seven to one oh two win
over the Knicks. Boston outscored the Knicks sixty to forty
three in the second half. Derek White was seven of
thirteen from the three and led with thirty four points.
Game six will be on Friday, and Jason, you're buying

Oilers are headed back to the Western Conference Final after
eliminating the Golden Knights one zero in overtime. The Panthers
crushed the Maple Leaves six to one. They now lead
their series three to two. In baseball, Aaron Judge hit
his fifteenth homer of the season as the Yankees edge
the Mirrorners three to two. Kyle Schwarber hit his fifteenth
homer of the season as the Phillies lost to the
(33:18):
Cardinals fourteen to seven in Game two of their double header.
They did win Game one two to one. Shohey a
Tani had his thirteenth home run of the season as
the Dodgers outscored the A's nine to three. The Twins
are on a ten game winning streak after sweeping the
double header at Baltimore. The Tigers walked it off against
the Red Sox six', Five The pirates shut out The
mets for, zero The padres topped The angels five to,

Speaker 1 (37:48):
Now, meanwhile we watched The warriors, season and Tonight timberwolves,
win The warriors make a little bit of a run
in the fourth, quarter but a big And edwards three
stealing a. Dunk it's a fourteen point lead and it's
never close after. That LOOK i said it After game.
One every game That Steph curry misses as A timberwolves.
(38:09):
Win timberwolves win four in a, row they take the.
Series now this is where you, Think, Oh, jason you're
just gonna just sit here and say bad things about The. Warriors, no, no,
No Without Steph, curry they went as far as they.
Could but remember this is part of a, big two
prong plan that The warriors have to get back to
the top of The. West we said it when they
traded For Jimmy butler In. February this is part. One
(38:30):
when they Signed butler to a two year extension pass this,
year you knew this was the beginning part of their.
Plan they need another. Star they have a couple of
really nice pieces on the. Team patzeenski has turned out
to be really, good, Right Buddy Healed when he doesn't
have to start and play a ton of, minutes you
can come off the. Bench, yeah, Great Buddy healed is.
Good but they've always been the best when they have
that third, star and there's gonna be a lot of
(38:52):
stars available for trade this. Offseason, yes and The giannis
will be out there right and beat will be out.
THERE i talked About Lori mark is going to be out, there,
like there's gonna be players that you can go, get
and they. Will they will identify the one, player the
biggest plug and play player with the, team they will
go get him and they'll make a. Move they, have
they have the salary to, trade they have young players to,
(39:14):
trade and The warriors will be back up at the
top of The Western conference next. Season warriors and The
mavericks at the top of The west next. Year this,
again this was part of a two prong. Plan, hey
Getting Jimmy. Butler you saw how good it. Was butler
comes right, in they start winning right, away and here they.
Are they get in the playoffs and they were maybe
it's Healthy Steph curry away from The Western conference. Finals
but this team is going to be even better next
(39:36):
year because they will go out and get that. Player
they will make a. Trade who will want to go
play With steph Because Golden state is still a. Destination
curry's prime has. Extended Jimmy butler's prime is extended a little.
Bit maybe it's a younger. Player i'd love it to Be,
embiid but but it's somebody that will fit, in that they'll,
identify and all of a, sudden look out for The.
WARRIORS i didn't think they could do. IT i Thought
steph had to be. Traded but here they are doing the.
(39:58):
Impossible part one Is Jimmy. Butler part two is this
Summer step three.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
Profit you're going into the underpant and snow them's on
The South park and you keep trying to Make embeid
happen like Fetch. Man come, on let it, go let it.
Go look they're. Salary they're in salary cap, hell so
they got to make some. Moves and For Mike Dunleavy,
JUNIOR i want the video camera on him the entire.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
Offseason how DO i.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Really make you believe That moody and all these guys
have tremendous. Value, look, buddy heals on a minimal, Deal
so that's. Fine curry's got two more years on his.
Deal you Extended, butler so you've got your. Base now
it's just a question of you know what you can
package to and send money out to bring back that.
Superstar either, Way i'm an interested. Observer you know. Me
(40:43):
older Guys still dominating is What i'm all.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
