Speaker 4 (00:39):
We chop up.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Every goal starts with an assist on and off the field.
That's why Haley On and US Soccer are launching for
the Assist, a celebration of everyday acts of support to

(01:02):
the NBA cleared the decks for the Emirates Cup tonight.
The Knicks beat the Spurs. They pull away in the
fourth quarter one twenty four to one thirteen and look,
there's so many things coming off this game, like it's
it's my first real championships from the past. Van Gundy
tackling people, sure Lj's big four point play. Oh yeah,
(01:24):
yea one hundred percent yeah, Hocally wanting to fight the
world Yep, yep, yep, Hopley, wanting to fight James Dolan,
Sure sure, forerts Lingerie.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
I really that's that's one for the way back. You know.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
I really felt like they could have had. I mean, really,
it's a Knicks championship, like somewhere on ESPN or Amazon's coverage.
They couldn't have like AI mover have Marv do it
himself and the Knicks have won the Emirates Cup Championship.
Jalen Brunson is your MVP. A sensational e Cup for
the Knicks captain. Has he sold his voice to the
(01:59):
AI people like McConaughey and Michael Kine. I don't think
you need to sell I think you can just do
mar I mean I could do I could do Marv
Albert now for a while. That's a pretty good Marv Albert.
I mean he's still with us men, But I.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Mean, but mar is older now and you know, you
gotta make sure.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Yes and it really counts, and this really really really counts.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
That's not a fake championship.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
They're gonna hang up banner at MSG here the Emirates Cup.
If the hell is the Emirates Cup.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
You know who? You know?
Speaker 4 (02:31):
I wiled with my Marv Albert once. This is this
is really fun, like we were.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
This is when I was a Yeah, I was an
NFL network and we did a segment called It's so
I forget what the sponsor was, but it was we
had to do it with the with it was like
Burger King, I think, with authority, and it was with
authority with some of the whole thing.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
So I'm like, oh, okay, so I'm.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Just gonna do it.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
I tried to steal the Burger King head at one
because I'm the host. So I'm just gonna do Marv
Albert and I'm gonna say worth authority. Right. So we're
doing the segments and it's everybody. It's Fabiano and me
and a bunch of guys and Plexico Burris is on
set with us, our teammate here at Fox Sports Radio,
and so he comes on and they said, okay. In
the traffic, and they get me here and say, okay, Jason,
do your thing, you know, say your thing, then kick
(03:12):
it to Plexico and then go already, okay, all right, great,
so we do the whole thing and I go and
with authority Arian Foster to it you whatever it was.
So I finished, I go, now let's go to Plexico
Burris and b burs He goes wow. And I looked
at him and he goes and Burr's goes, okay, my
pick with authority like he so.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
He tried to get that nice.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
I was like, all right, great, there you go. You
hear him a part of up on game here on Saturdays.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
That's the only thing missing tonight was hearing Marv Albert
talk about the game tonight Carl Anthony Towns from way downtown.
Because even not having grown up in New York, I
mean that is Nick's basketball is Marv Albert and Tyler
Kohlik with a sensational a few minutes here for the
knicks off the bench a few points. Yes, he was
(04:02):
playing the final heus, you have the guard the final
two minutes of the gig, eating a little bit of
juice down the stretch. I mean, come on, oh, gee
Anna Nobi the original. Yes, he had himself a big game,
no question. I could have used marta Night a little
bit guy. And that's one thing when he was in
your head the whole time. Him and the tsare the dellustrator.
There's no question about it. Mike Furtullo, what do you
(04:23):
have to make with a big night from the New
York next as they win the Emirates Cup Championship in
Las Vegas. Well, you know, Marv, the defensive rotations were
fantastic tonight. Mike Brown really in his bag. I'll spectacular
job of coaching by Mike Brown. Now, speaking of Mike Brown,
I kind of like watching the celebration tonight when the
(04:47):
Knicks win. They're all getting on stage taking pictures and
Mike Brown is off to the side.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Yeah, it's kind of cool. I like that, you know,
Like it's not like.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
You know, Tims would have been in the middle, yes,
but I like Mike Brown was off to the side.
The players have in their moment. But not to say
Mike Brown didn't enjoy winning the Emirates Cup Championship. Here
is Mike Brown from a few moments ago, getting ready
for his postgame press conference.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
This is Mike Brown.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
And then Michael Finley took it from him.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
He he burped, and then he said, and the audio
is kind of tough because he proved, sorry, I just
had a beer and it kind of sticks in my
throat a little bit. So that was Mike Brown enjoying. Yes,
Mike Brown having a Schlitz. Yes, Mike Brown a Cores
original from Pete Cores and Cores incorporated.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
Yes, what's the official beer of the NBA? Micheltt Ultra,
the official beer of the NBA. Mike Brown, Yes, because
I know they have to deal with Hennessy. Oh he's
gonna go that way.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Yes, Bud Wiser the king of beers, much like Mike
Brown is the King of New York. I don't think
Marph needs for every Hey, Marv, we got a stack
of liners for you to do. Clearly, Mike Brown not
needing Bud dry his throat dry enough, something with more viscosity.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Yes, Jason, how did you know it was? Michaelob Ultra
is really oh okay.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
But just working through the pitch deck, it's like, all right,
we're going in search of the official beer, so we
we're gonna need you to read these so like we
can have him as part of the meetings, and he's
just going beer. Foster's is Australian for beer. It's also
English for the Knicks are the champions. Yes, La Mett's
(06:48):
beat Dennis oil Canboyd back in eighty six in the
World Series. Tonight the Knicks beat the Spurt. That doesn't
make any sense, but you're paying me to read it,
so I'll just read it. I'm run. But yes, Marv
Albert for all those years, I mean that's it. I mean,
we're They did the montage before the sign off of
(07:10):
the great moments in Knick's history, and all of them
would have been chronicled by Marv Albert. And they go
back a long time. Not a lot of positivity here
these last couple of years. I would have thought Jalen
Brunson that much better than his dad. Yes, and boy,
you have to feel for Mark Cuban not being able
(07:30):
to keep Jalen Brunson in the building. Yes, this has
gone far worse than you are, Chris Berman, DJ and
uh not gonna be easy for Yannis to get to
the Knicks after this one tonight, No, because think because
think about that for just for one second, right, to
(07:50):
get to get to the take Why the Knicks needed
this right first thing, janis if the knickser is preferred destination,
nothing you have seen so far is gonna get the
Knicks to upset their apple cart to trade from the deadline. Well,
that's the thing we talked about Brown and what he's
done as a coach and the changeover from Thibodeau. I
mentioned it, you know, last hour a little bit that
we were I was watching some of the posts, you know,
(08:12):
getting a cup of coffee in the in the kitchen,
and and just the way Brunson and Hart were talking
about their relationship with Mike Brown and how he fortified
that in terms of wanting to get to know them
beyond their moves as chess pieces on a basketball court
and relating to each of them in their lives as
(08:35):
men and going down like that he started with them
and then obviously making time and getting to know the
rest of the roster, but that he really took the
initiative of getting to know them outside of the basketball confines,
which is huge, right. We understand that it takes time
(08:55):
to build those relationships, but that that was his first
order of business, not like hey, rotations or whatever else, like,
I gotta get to know you as people before we
can really build as a team. And I think that's
lost on a lot of this anymore. It's so transactional,
so short term success as opposed to all right, we
need to build this thing, and we can't just do
(09:17):
it if all we know is is in between the
white lines. Look, And that's why the Knicks needed this,
needed tonight, needed this championship because coming off the last year,
probably should have been in the NBA Finals. You know,
they blow that big lead to the Pacers, they never
really recover and Tibbs gets fired. Right, very controversial team
(09:41):
this close to a championship, but the Knicks understand that
we need something a little bit more. So there's always
gonna be that question did we do the right thing?
And the TIBs hangover was real. Right when the Knicks
started out this season, what was it? Things were just
a little bit more difficult than it felt it should
be with this team playing more guys off the bench.
(10:02):
Mccal bridges was terrific the beginning of the year, right,
he was a different guy off of this team, but
things were just a little bit more difficult. It felt
like the end of the year last year and playoff
games where boy, every time, you know, they're dogging Jalen
Brunson up the court every single time, trying to exhaust them.
This is game five, Game six, Game seven, and the
Knicks lost a little bit out of the gate, and
so you get a little bit of ooh, is this
(10:25):
the right thing? Right that the TIBs hangover is still there,
players still very loyal to him, even though they love
Mike Brown. The Knicks need even though they had started
to win, right, and the big thing for the nixt
they put Josh Hart in the starting lineup and all
of a sudden, that was it, Like that was the
big change, and the Knicks started winning. Everything started working
from there. And yes, they're playing more guys, guys off
the bench night. I mean, think about it. The Knicks
(10:46):
won tonight because Mitchell Robinson and Jordan Clarkson. Right, Clarkson
has done it. You don't need these guys every single night,
but you need guys that can do this. So the
onus is not on Brunson and Karl Anthony Towns and Anunoby.
Like you saw the way they were able to do
it tonight. Nicks got big stuff off the bench. And
when we talked to Rick Bucker an hour go on
the show, he's listen, these guys weren't even playing in
this game. Jordan Clarkson wouldn't be in the game. Mitchell
(11:08):
Robinson wouldn't be in the game. If Tibbs was coaching right,
he would stick with his iron five right. So you
see that you needed Mike Brown to get some time
to get his rotation in, play the right guys in
the right order, in the right way. He wanted to
do it. But the Knicks winning this even though it's okay,
it's the e Cup, it's the middle of the season,
this is a tangible piece of evidence that what we
(11:30):
are doing is working towards being a team that can
win the NBA title this year. We knew coming in
we were gonna be one of the favorites, right us
in Cleveland because the Celtics were without Jason Tatum. The
Pacers have lost a couple of guys, No Haliburton, Caliburton,
so they knew, hey, we're one of the big heavy favorites.
Obviously the Pistons have jumped out there's always going to
(11:51):
be that team up there. But the Knicks are saying, Okay,
this is our year. We are here for this, and
you need a little bit of that evidence to say, hey,
you tangible piece of what we're doing is working. Just
like in anything where if you're following a new script,
you get to that point where you ask yourself is
this working? Do we need to go back to what
we're doing? Do we need to change things? But now
(12:12):
is your stamp of we don't need to change anything.
We just want a championship. We went into a winner
take all game in a neutral environment, right, not in
our place right where hey we play at Madison Square Garden, Right,
that's our place, that's where we go. It's where we
beat everybody. No, we're now winning games on the road,
neutral environment for a championship where both sides really wanted it,
in front of fans that were you were paid to
(12:34):
be there, in front of fans who were there, no
matter how many were or weren't there. In the blue
lights up above. This was a big cementing of the
Knicks believe what they're doing, and now they're even a better,
more dangerous tea than they were because they have this
tangible evidence of Okay, this group together we just achieved,
we coalesced, We made it through this crazy Herky Jerky
(12:55):
e Cup schedule. But we knew when the games were
we wanted to win. Everybody wanted to win, right, everybody
wants the money get to the Emirates Cup Final. We
saw it to again, you watch the game. You saw
how bad the Spurs wanted. You saw bad the Knicks
wanted it. Both teams wanted to win. But this is
so big because the Knicks needed this belief to know
that hey, from now on, hey we know that we
got it.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Now.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
I just hope going forward, the Knicks don't rust in
the Laurels going yeah, yeah, we got it, we got it,
and instead it's more of a springboard jumping off board.
That's it, right, You have to have your litmus test.
We talked about it just in terms of regular season matchups,
right where you recognize where you don't match up well
against the top.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Of your conference.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
I will talk about the Spurs a bit more and
where they are and some stuff coming out in the post.
But you know, like when we watched the Lakers, they
were having that great run and then they went and
got drummed by Okac, and it's like, okay, that's your
true test, right. You want to be defined by how
you play against the best in your respective conferences, and
(13:54):
the Emirates Cup does at least give you that little
snapshot of here we are battle test it a little bit, right.
The Knicks get out of the East and you play
a Spurs team that has great depth and great length,
and you come away with a win and a great
fourth quarter to close it out, and you needed those
bench players to do it. So you have proof of
(14:15):
concept of all right, what we're building works. Do you
still have tweaks? Well, you got a few weeks ahead
of the trade deadline, right, And that's the other thing
that you come out of here with your your proof
of concept of what you have with Mike Brown that
it's working and more filmed to go back and look
at of all right, what else can we tweak? Where
else can maybe we steal some minutes along the way,
(14:37):
because it is a long road before we get to
June where we're playing for the real stakes. Exit about
a Fresca exit swollen dome for tonight. The Knicks are
the champions. They dine on the E Cup stake of success.
We snack on danger and we dine on depth. We
got more NBA on the way. But coming up next,
(15:00):
two big stories out of the NFL. One that is
upsetting the Apple card at the top of the NFL Draft.
That's next, right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best

h A l e O n Assist dot com. Haley
on Assist dot com. So I do have one thing
I'm pretty excited about here, Okay, because you know, I'm
worried about buying the Knick's E Cup Championship gear looking
cool about it, Like, like, how do I do it?
I want to look cool. I don't want to look
like a man. Really, it's an ecup thing. But Sco
(16:38):
Ducks has a suggestion for me here. Yeah, Jason, you
can't just buy one shirt or a hat head to
toe Cup champions gear like a toddler wearing his favorite
John Cena outfit. There is something to be said for that.
Get your athletics shorts, some wristbands. Yeah yeah, I just
like I know exactly the outfit he's talking about, right
(17:00):
with the wristbands, the hat, and the shirt all the
way through, respect, loyalty, hustle, Let's go. You can always
dress up as a clown like Spike Lee. Hey, Hey, hey, hey,
Spike Lee. That's that's Spike Lee. That's I thought there
was a clown. That's e cup Nick super fan Spike Lee.
I'm gonna give him credit though. He showed on that
he did right for all it up in Vegas. Yeah,
(17:21):
showed up. He's been waiting this whole damn wife.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
But that's the.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Point he has been. He paid it off like you
got a bunch of other folks. Look, Ben Stiller literally
phoned it in. How much you want to bet? How
much you want to bet? If I had gone to
that game tonight, if I had taken tonight off and
gone to that game, I'd have been sitting next to
Spike Lee.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
That would have been great.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
If you going out of your way to say in retrospect,
I probably should have done.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
I could take it to night and gone to the
gut in a ticket request.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Yeah, I could have taken tonight off, gone to the game,
gone to see the championship. Understand what else win? You know, Frostburg,
I'm not lying yet. I really think I should have been.
I should have done. But here's the thing is that when.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
Instead you were standing up in the studio.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
Some of some of the greatest nights I've had in sports.
And I'm not saying this because it's one thing or
the other. And again, I don't know I have the
great nights. But some of the greatest nights in sports
that I've had over the course of my career, I
trace back to what it was like that night, being
able to talk about it on the air, for everybody
to listen to like that, like that, like to go
(18:25):
to the game would be awesome. Right to go to
the game and have that experience and win, it's fantastic.
But just remember Kobe's final night where we couldn't get
audio because everybody was too busy running up and down
the hallway.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Is excited, like hey, could we get that shot?
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Yeah, But certain nights like that's what I defin, that's
what I default. So I go back to God, I
remember getting to talk about that for four hours, talk
about this game, and it's not just about my team.
It's big nights in history and things happening in sports,
like just tonight because it's look since nineteen ninety it's
my third championship, all right, Syracuse and O three the
Hurricanes in two thousand and six, and now it's like
(18:58):
a half of one because the next win the Emirates
Cup got a half a cup, tamp.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
You take your victories where you find them.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Maybe half a cup, half a cup, a cup, p
a cup, a cup, a cup. Uh so again, celebrate,
celebrate everything good. But I really I want to make
sure that I buy the e Cup stuff and look cool.
Ben Maller gave me a big hug in the hallway, going,
you gonna go buy all that stuff? I go, yeah,
it's gonna buy a hat and the shirt and everything else.
I'm so excited, gonna buy it all, picture frame, all
of that stuff. It's celebrate the hell out of it.
(19:26):
I can't wait to see what they have for the
Emirates Cup in terms of the tops.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Now cards, I can't wait, dude, I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
I mean, we'll I have shots and autographs and memorabilia,
maybe parts of this cup. I'm gonna get to will
will we put into cards?
Speaker 4 (19:42):
Come on, I'm gonna get to celebrate the crap out
of this thing.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Man. I might have a team set to celebrate the
Emirates Cup. Everything everything here, here's here's a team picture.
Here's the team.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
It's a big deal. Yeah, yeah, let's go.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
I mean, I mean, the only thing missing was Marv Albert.
That was the only thing missing. Somehow we need to
more tonight.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
But he was really in your soul. So were you
really missing him?
Speaker 1 (20:03):
And really, I can't believe it took the next this
long to actually win something. I was a broadcaster going
back to nineteen sixty eight, and it took him till
twenty twenty five, when Mellow's kid is playing for Syracuse
for them to finally win something. You couldn't have done
it for me earlier in my career. Time out, Marv Albert,
I want to talk it over. Oh, we had the
(20:24):
big run in ninety nine. You go back to the
White Bronco Chase and ninety.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
Four ninety five.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
I mean, all that split screen experience with the NBA
Finals where the NBA Finals got relegated to the small
window on most of your TVs. Your sports life really sucks. Yeah,
I mean, how do you think it's amazing? Almost as
much if I do, it's amazing. I love sports as
much a they do. These am almost again, two hundred
(20:50):
and ten seasons going back to nineteen ninety of my
six big teams, right, Baseball, Football, basketball, hockey, Syrocuse basketball,
Serrocuse football. And it didn't have to be that way Smith, No,
it didn't. I could have picked the Yankes. I could
have picked the Yankees and the Giants, and I'd have
had a great sports life. I still would have the Knicks, though,
but I have that, But it wouldn't matter. I'm like, yeah,
the nixt they'll win whenever. I got the Yankees to
(21:11):
win a World Series every few years, the Giants win
the Super Bowl every few years.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
I got a great sports life.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
But what's the old costsner line? It's the hard that
makes it great. Yeah, sometimes it's too hard, man, this
has been really hard treat.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
It's been really hard. It's been really hard.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
But then when when you actually do have some chance
at winning, uh, the elusive title, it's it's that, you know,
fruit that's on the end that you've got to go
risk life and limb to go get Here's where my heater.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
Is gonna continue. Tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
The Mets are going to make that big trade with
the Padres that's been rumored the last couple of days.
All the best players got except for Lindora to tease,
like all these players going back and forth. Watch it's
gonna happen tomorrow. You think so watch Yeah, think just
will actually come to fruition. Yeah, I'm about schoobl becoming
a Dodger school ball, Uh to Schoobl a timeout. Dodgers
they not trading Tyler Glass No, uh school.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
Yeah until today? Well they I would be that.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
That's great, That's that's real dirty pool that Tyler Glastow
said today. Hey, I talked to Andrew Freeman. He told
me I'm not getting traded. And then he gets traded.
Speaker 4 (22:15):
That would be rare. It's happened before.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Yeah, but that's unlike you know, look, certain things you expect,
Like I expect a coach to say, I'm not benching
my quarterback. He's really good, and the next day, oh, hey,
guess what my quarterbacks hitting the bench he's terrible.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
Yeah, I plan to trade you. I expect that.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
But when you get by the opportunity to go, Look,
glasnow was the one Dodger now they they didn't have
kid gloves for in terms of criticism, because well, he
tapped out a bunch. I just talked to the GM.
He's not traded me. Oh sorry that I mean, I'm
not trading you today. That's gonna meant tomorrow maybe different,
but today you're still a dodge for school. Congratulations or
(22:53):
insert whatever picture here. I mean, that's the way life works.
We love you until we don't, uh now, until we
love someone just.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
A little bit more. Oh Yeahthony Davis, he knows how
that feels. Oh sure, AD is great.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
AD is gone with their fingerprints on the knife from
clutching uh big football story today. The top of the
NFL Draft has now been upended as Jeremiah Love Heisman
finalist Notre Dame has announced he is entering the NFL Draft.
Thanked everybody at nore Dame for the last couple of years.
(23:32):
He is now headed to the NFL, where there is
no way he gets out of the top five. Because
this is a guy who not only is a great player,
look the guy, he's a do it all running back. Right.
The guy averaged seven yards of carry the last two years, the.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Last two years.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
It's what he have I always default to when I
was a kid, going if he averages seven yards of carry,
why don't we get the ball on every play? It's
gonna get seven yards of cary. We're gonna be in
the end zone. They're never gonna stop us. We're gonna
win the super Bowl. But this is the type of
player that he is. He's big, he's asked, he's elusive,
He's a guy that catches the ball to the backfield.
He is everything you want out of a running back.
And while I know that, hey, the general consensus has
(24:08):
been we don't take running backs early in the draft,
there are special guys that you take that early. Clearly
going back in time, boy Bjon Robinson showing you draft
stock one hundred percent. Jeremiah Love is that next guy.
And when you are teams picking in the top five
year team like the Titans or the Jets, you are
getting a player who is going to give you your
(24:30):
identity as a team. You're getting a superstar who was
showing up to sell jerseys. That's the focal point of
your team.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
It's not just we.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Got a great edge rusher, we got a great shutdown corner.
You're getting a superstar running back. And we're kind of
coming back to the to the running back a little bit.
In the NFL, coming off of Saquon Barkley. You anybody
that gets paid should thanks Saquon Barkley for carrying the
Eagles to the super Bowl last year, because that's why
guys are getting paid. But he's not getting out of
the top five, whether it's one of those teams I'm
(25:00):
or someone else training up.
Speaker 4 (25:01):
To get him.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
But I want to throw this at you because you know,
you know what should happen. Think about this. Jeremiah Love
number one overall to the Giants, But the Giants have
scatabooz Sctataboos, Gottaboys. Yeah, Scataboo's kind of a cultiro. He's
not a guy that's gonna rip, but he's not gonna
average five yards to carry. He's a volume running back.
But but think about this. If you take Jeremiah Love
(25:26):
number one overall, absolute superstar running back, if you're the
Giants you go into next season, Jackson Darter is your quarterback.
He has proven he's the guy. You have Love and
Scataboo at running back. Neighbors Wandelle Robinson, Theo Johnson. You
are the Lions of two and a half years ago.
(25:48):
That's how good this offense can be. Right And oh,
by the way, Tyron Tracy is really good too. You
might not need him he's but yeah, he's pretty good,
but it doesn't matter. Think about that talent level that
you have. That's the same thing that the Lions said, Well,
we have David Montgomery, he's really good. We're drafting Jamior Gibbs.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
He is that good.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
He is the lightning to the thunder at Sonic and Knuckles.
And look at what the Lions have been able to
do the last couple years. Now this year they're struggling
a little bit, but offensively they're still great. They have
superstar playmakers everywhere. The Giants are sort of becoming the
new Lions. If you make that draft pick, you already
have a pretty decent defense. You can fix things in
(26:27):
free agency or defensive line is okay, Gotta get Abdul
Carter to make sure he is leaving all his bad
habits behind. But think about that offense if you're the
Giants going in the next year. Dart Love Scataboo, a
healthy Molik neighbors Wandale Robinson who's turned into a really
good player. Johnson like, that's exactly what the Lions were
looking at a couple of years ago. The star quarterback,
(26:50):
the two star running backs. One could be a real
big superstar, two really good wide receivers. One can be
a superstar, one could be one of the next great
tight ends in the NFL. Maybe Johnson's not Laporta, but
that's what the Giants would have at their skilled positions,
and everybody would foam at the mouth to go coach
these guys. Like that's so you're thinking, oh, why would
(27:11):
he take a running back number? Think about the offense
the Giants could put on the field if they went
Jeremiah Love number one. No, I like it in theory,
In theory, is Marcus Freeman the next head coach of
the Giants while we're at it, because maybe that helps
solidify that a little bit. Okay, okay, because I'm wondering
if he's not moving on to other pass keep hearing
(27:33):
Marcus Freeman Giants a lot like it's like it's not
one of those things, Ah you heard it had gone away.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
It's like he keeps just like Calin de boor in Michigan.
You haven't heard the end of Like why is that? People?
We're not you haven't stopped talking about that?
Speaker 1 (27:45):
Still going on, debor Kelly, you know, I mean, there's
there's a lot of moving parts in that, but certainly
Marcus Freeman potentially on the move. With all of this, Now,
am I drafting a running back?
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Top five? Hell? No, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
But I like your theory and I like the way
that offense looks. Now, you still need five guys up
front to block, and they don't have one at this point.
You also, I think, might need to make sure you're
backing up your quarterback position. Not necessarily in the first round,
but certainly something you need to address because of Jackson
(28:22):
Dart's frequent excursions to the blue tent along the way,
So you need to make sure that that's solidified, whether
it remains Jameis Winston or another. But for Jeremiah Love, certainly,
he's acquitted himself as a pass catcher with fifty five
receptions the last two years.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
You look at his.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Yards per Carrie per catch. A big explosive player, no question.
Top ten, Top fifteen, definitely, But Barkley's regression this year
behind an offensive line, because that's what you're looking at
with the Giants, right, You got Thomas and a lot
of question marks on your own line that you still
need to fortify that before I'd be going all in
(29:06):
on a running back.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
Now, let me let me just let me just throw
this body.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Then, before he say going all on a running back,
Let's go back to twenty twenty three in the NFL draft,
where Bryce Young goes number one overall, C J. Stroud
goes number two, Jean Robinson went eight, and Jamier Gibbs
went twelve. If you are redrafting now, are those guys
going to eight and twelve or are they going one two?
I'm pretty sure Bijon Robinson and Jamier Gibbs are going
(29:29):
one too. If you're redoing the NFL draft, Heinzite's twenty
twenty right. What I'm saying is to say that I
don't want to tell look how good these got me.
Look you can see that. Hey, it works out now
taking these guys, these guys are huge weapons. Bryce has
been pretty good, and ric o'doddell and Chew Muhamard have
been pretty good. No, no, no, I'm just saying in
theory of the level player they are. Are you taking
(29:52):
Bryce Young still number one? Are you taking Bijon Robinson?
Are you taking Bryce Young? Or are you taking Jamiir Gibbs?
Just one team, not to talking about your fits, what
you need for a team. Hey, who's the better player
who's turned out to be the better player those guys have.
So you can take you can take a running back
number one, and it's and it's it's proven that the
last couple of years it can work for you. I'm
always taking the qb Okay, all right, if I'm convinced
(30:14):
that the But you're always taking the quarterback. If you're
convinced the quarterback is there, I can find a running back.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
But are you convinced the quarterbacks there?
Speaker 3 (30:22):
This year?
Speaker 1 (30:22):
You convinced in Fernanda Mendoza orre you convinced more for
Jeremiah Love. See that, I'm going I'm going different positions.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
That's tough. I'm not getting the running back. I'm getting
a different position. Now.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Now you're going to going away from running back, go
away from quarterback. You're like, you're like a GM. That's
like keeping everything close to the vest. You're like, look
like running out going safety. I'm going I just said
he was going to take a running back. Now he
said he's going to take a quarterback. Now he said
he's going lineback. I don't know what he's doing there.
Gotta keep you guessing he's I don't know, I don't
know he may I'm not committing to either of those positions,
(30:52):
and Mike Harmon has passed at the top of the draft.
I'm taking alignment, I'm taking an edge, didn't get the
card and in time had seven names on the card.
Time Out, Harmon. He wants to talk it over. No,
I'm literally, I'm just I'm just not going running back
or quarterback in that slot this year. Exit out out
(31:14):
a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith Mike Harmon live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Time out to find
out what's trending in the wide world of sports. But
guy has been called the Jalen Brunson of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (31:26):
Actually taller than him, He's the Rick Brunson of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
You misheard that fight.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Oh see, I love this is where we're sharing the
same brain because my plan was to go the Jalen
Brunson because oh wait, sorry, it says the Rick Brunson
of Fox Sports Radio. So yeah, yeah, you had it
sharing the same brain.
Speaker 6 (31:47):
You know what, if my wife heard you say that,
she would say, boy, that explains so much, you know
what I mean. Well, the Brunson legacy continued in the
NBA Cup Championship game on Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
And she's gonna say, I thought I was marrying former
Orioles outfielder John Lowenstein. Instead I married Isaac loehen Krown Okay.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
Brother loweares.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
I said I wanted a low and Brow and Isaac
Loewenkron showed up, and I I know what I want,
and I'd let it be Loan Brow in an auto corrected.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
Damn you auto correct and now you're married. Wait a minute,
two kids later, and she's just discovering her mistake. Any
delete that from the podcast. In the NBA schedule, In
the NBA Cup Championship game on Tuesday night, it was
the New York Knicks over the San Antonio Spurs, one
twenty four to one thirteen. Let's listen now it's Saturdays.
(32:43):
The final seconds ticked away, a call that will go
down in New York sports history.
Speaker 7 (32:48):
The Knicks dribble out the last ten seconds on the clock.
The New York Knicks are Key Cup champions. Give them
the Lario O'Brien trophy, Give them everything they need. They
are the champs. Making one championship for Jalen Brunson.
Speaker 6 (33:04):
Yeah, put that in your pipe and smoking Mark all
right there, that's a final call right there at the table. Yeah,
throwing a little Nikita Krushev at the United Nations in
New York.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
Show you my shoe that I bet that, take off
my shoe and pound it.
Speaker 6 (33:19):
It was very, very impressive. A clinic if you will,
also putting on clinic Wana millennials, whom Nikita Krushchev is.
By the way, they have Google about going Nikita cole off.
Going back to the battles, Nikolai Volkov, same person, same person,
they were one percent. After they would win a match,
(33:40):
he would salute as they played the Soviet national lantern
back in the day. Anyway, O g n Andobi led
the Knicks with twenty eight points. Jalen Brunson had twenty
five points with eight assists. He was named NBA Cup MVP.
Let's listen in on part of Jalen Bronson's postgame news conference.
And as you folks can tell, I like to joke
around a lot, but this was actually legitimately This is
(34:01):
actually legitimately part of Jalen Brunson's news conference after they
won the NBA Cup tonight.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
And if they are going to have a parade, what's
your notes for them. I don't think we're having a parade.
Speaker 4 (34:12):
Isn't that great?
Speaker 6 (34:13):
Jalen Brunson realistically appraising the value of an NBA Cup championship. Meanwhile,
before the contest, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver talking about potential
sites for future NBA Cup Championship games on Amazon Prime.
Speaker 8 (34:26):
We're talking about whether it makes sense to maybe go
to some unique locations for the final game, for example,
some like storied college arenas. So we're just looking at
other ways we could do this.
Speaker 6 (34:37):
And with that, Jason and Mike back to you guys.
