VJ Husky, Arnie Span, You're in for the guys tonight
Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Harmon here on
Fox Sports Radio. You gotta be part of the show.
Real simple at Big Vanilla Funny. I'm in stinking genius one.
Happy New Year, everybody. Welcome to twenty twenty six, our
(00:50):
two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of America.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Arnie, you and I are in different years.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Yeah, you're twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
I'm still in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
You're not caught up to me yet.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
I know, man, How is it up? How is it up?
How is it up? There?
Speaker 2 (01:06):
It's a lot like twenty twenty five in twenty twenty six.
There's okay, it's a lot the same yeah, nothing really
has changed it. It's two in the morning.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
No jetson, no jets and cars, no.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
No, nothing like that. I always I always thought when
I watched the jets and that we'd have the TV
that would come out and you could do the face
to face that we have that, So that's all I
really wanted. The flying cars, true, yeah, so we have that.
The flying cars we don't have. We don't I know.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
But you know what though, I think there's somewhere, Arnie,
They're they're somewhere because you remember back to the future too, Yes,
and that's when they we saw you could talk talk
to someone on TV and see him. Now that's like
the norm, right FaceTime, your phone, Google meets.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
All that stuff, zoom, all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
You know, these these microwaves that can super cook fast food, remember, yeah, yeah,
they put in and two seconds later the whole pizza
comes out. You can do all that now. But I
believe the flying cars are somewhere. They got the soft dreint,
they got the self driving ones out here in LA
now that they use as like taxis, the self driving cars,
they have those out here in Los Angeles now. So
(02:11):
I think the flying there's somewhere. Man, there's somewhere Elon
got next.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah, maybe not in my lifetime, but that is next,
that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
When they got the hoverboard, now do you see the hoverboard?
They see the hoverboard? Ye see the hoverboards seeing the
hoverboard there. Yeah, there's a flying car somewhere on the
States that we were supposed to have, something like the
people movers like they used to have in Disneyland, where
you just kind of get.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Into a little, you know, car that just kind of
jets you away to the next place, kind of like
the jets.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Okay, you know what I mean? Where okay?
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Just quickly off time off side bars, New Year's Zve.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Do you believe in time traveling?
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Do you believe that? I'm fifty fifty fifty fifty the
Simpsons time Travelers because they predicted way too much stuff
for thirty one seasons.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
I see pictures where they go, what about this guy
who's back in the nineteen thirties, but he's out of
a telephone or something, right, I'm like, that's not a telephone.
I can't tell. I don't know what that is.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
I'm with you. It's it's it's like I don't know,
but I'm not gonna say no, right, So I guess
that makes me fifty right.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
All right, we got a lot of NFL to get to.
I did pull up the TV broadcast schedule. I guess
what we're we're not taking in the consideration is like,
if you take the CBS early game, there's only three games,
So the Indianapolis Houston game will go to forty seven
states of the country, which is like ninety three percent,
which is what they could have done with one of
the Saturday games, which was my point, or the CBS
(03:39):
late game where the Chargers Denver game, well pretty much
about eighty percent. Would I would do that just because
you wouldn't want all the good games on Saturday. You
want to go ahead and have that, you know, that
up in the air on Sunday. Also, because there was
so little this year, there was only three games where
they made such a big difference, and we're doing two
(04:01):
on Saturday. But again it's I don't care about the ratings.
It doesn't really make that much for me.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
But say forty seven states of forty seven percent?
Speaker 2 (04:09):
No, forty seven states.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Okay, so which game is that?
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Again? I'm just I'm just looking us up Indianapolis Houston. Okay,
so the.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Indianapolis Houston game you're saying is going to forty.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
It's already except for the Cincinnati Cleveland area, huh and
the Minnesota Green Bayed Chicago Detroit.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
So yeah, they're definitely not gonna run no games in
that area.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
That that's uh yeah, that's so every day you're usually
going up against two or three others, but this game
still has playoff implications. My point is the Saturday games
are for divisions, right right, so you will let's find Yeah,
it means more those two games on Saturday, right way the.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Coach Houston game, to me, Sundays mean more than Saturdays.
That's the way. That's what the NFL is there.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
At at this time.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
No, come on, man, they've been doing Saturday games for
thirty years now.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
They've already given us a good and full Week seventeen,
well it was Week seventeen, then now Week eighteen. We've
always had at least one meaningful Saturday week last week
of the year NFL game for the last twenty years.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
We'll see how the ratings are for the Sunday games.
I'm kind of curious about that. If you want to
get it. In a matter of fact, we do have
people that wanted to comment on this real quick. Gutter said,
Panthers is my game. I'm glutu for the TV on Sunday. Well,
he's after him Saturday. Excuse me. Colin says, Hawks Donders
game on Saturday night made up for a really bad
Monday night schedule this year? Was Monday Night really that bad?
Speaker 4 (05:33):
I really, I don't know if it was that bad.
I thought we got I thought we got some good
games on Monday nights that we just didn't expect. You
think about like that Denver Commander's game right out there,
where you think you know the Denver's going to show
up and walk through them, and Marcus Mariota was damn
near with the.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Overtime and damn near won that game.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
I think about games like that where on paper it
looked like crap, but once you put the game on,
the product spoke for.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Itself, all right, TJ, TJ, thank you, VJ. I want
to move on because I want to do something with
you that I did with Chris plank On. I think
it was Sunday or Monday, And I'm going to give
you a name of a person. I want you to
you can give me four possible, four different type of answers.
I'm going to give you Lamar Jackson. I want you
to tell me what's in Lamar Jackson's head, and I'm
(06:22):
going to I'll give you that first answer. If I'm
in Lamar Jackson's head right now, I'm mad at my team.
I feel like everybody's against me, that they don't want
me here and they're picking on me. I'm a two
time MVP, I'm a four time Pro Bowl, but I
don't have the best record obviously in the playoffs. I
feel or pick people are picking on me, and I
(06:43):
want to go somewhere else right that's if I'm Lamar Jackson.
The fans. I feel the fans want Lamar Jackson out.
It just feels like they don't appreciate him. They feel
like it's always the grass is greener on the other side,
and they want themselves another quarterback. I believe the Ravens
will do anything to keep Lamar Jackson on the team.
(07:04):
They love him, they know what he's worth. They want
him on the team. What's actually going to happen is
he's gone. And I fought with this with Jason Cole
when I was filing in last week. He said he's
not going. There's no way he's going. That's just not happening.
I spoke to the owner, and I don't think he's
coming back. I think there's some bad blood. I think
(07:26):
these stories that got leaked out there's a reason they
get leaked out. I think it kind of hurts the relationship.
I don't think he's coming back now. I don't know
if he's gonna end up in Miami or Las Vegas
or Arizona, or the latest rumor is now Minnesota. I
can't give you an answer to that, VJ. I just know,
(07:47):
as if I'm in Lamar's head, I think he wants
to leave, and I think he'll end up leaving when
it's all said and done. What do you think?
Speaker 4 (07:55):
I told Calvin Washington today, Yeah, And I told Steve
eve Hartman, my partner on end Zone Radio, this last Sunday,
I want to go out on a limb and I can.
I can see a world we live in Arnie where
Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow are on different NFL teams
(08:16):
this offseason.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Oh, I totally agree with you.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
The Bengals have already put it out there. Hey, we're
listening because Joe Burrow is talking like I want out
of here. Yes he's just not saying I went out
of here. But guys that are smarter than the average bear,
like you and myself, we read through that. We know
what you're and here's the thing. I get what you're
saying and how you're doing it, because that's how you
kind of gotta do it. Like he just can't come
(08:40):
out and say I want out because yes, you had
a Super.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
Bowl run that was five years ago. You can't stay
on the field.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
We got Jason McIntyre, who is a colleague of ours
here over Fox Sports One that calls him glass Joe. Okay,
like you get hurt brouh. So you can't really you know,
you can't really piss him too loud, but you can
make some noise because we do see that you've been bawling.
But just this franchise doesn't care. Over to Lamar Jackson, Yeah,
(09:09):
remember two years ago, about three years ago, probably you
and I were doing the show over the summertime. I
think Scott ha put us together like three times in
like a two week span in like July, where and
it was leading up to the rumors that the Dolphins
were in on trying to trade for who won Lamar Jackson,
and then Lamar signed this deal. Remember he's from from Miami,
(09:32):
from the South South Florida area. I told Steve Hartman
this this past Sunday verbatim. If I'm the Dolphins, I
get why you benched to him, and I don't just
jet them off. The cat hits just really too heavy
for this year. Maybe next year, but for this year,
it's just a little too heavy for what they're trying
to do there in South Beach, especially after they hire
(09:54):
theoretic Excuse me, Lewis Riddick.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
That's why I want to be the GM. He does
a great job. I love that guy.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
I think he's gonna be a GM. He worked at
the NFL front offices before. But you go to the
off season that hey, tools the starter, we're cool here.
But you start picking up the phone and you start
calling Baltimore again, and he said, hey, listen, can we reignition?
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Can we reignite?
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Excuse me? Can we reignite those conversations?
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Does he want to leave? Do you think he wants
to leave?
Speaker 3 (10:25):
I can't answer either one of those questions.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
The question I can answer, would it probably be best
with all parties involved, that if they lose Sunday night
on national TV on the move, fifteen to twenty million
people watching, it might be time for two people. And
I hate to say it about the one guy that
I love his brother, but it might be time that
(10:48):
John and Lamar both say, and it's been, it's been,
it's been a run. We tried it. It's not, it's
not it's just not happening. They've never got Lamar a
pro go to wr one. Never his best receiver has
been a tight end. He's got Derrick Henry. Now. They
were in a conference championship game at home and Monkin
(11:12):
decided to try to make him a pocket passer and
they lost seventeen to fourteen to the Chiefs at home
and Zay Flowers fumbles the ball going in the end
zo late in the fourth quarter that causes a touchback.
Like they've gotten this much juice and squeeze out of
this orange that they possibly can get, and it just
(11:32):
might be time that maybe Harball, even if Cleveland job
comes available. Hell, if what I'm hearing in Miami, I've
always heard that McDaniel's are safe. But for so long
you keep hearing no, no, he's not in it. Recently
you hear these Cleveland stories the Fanskey could be out
of Cleveland, which you should be. He should be fired
from there. Maybe Harball finds his way down, Maybe him
(11:55):
and Lamar are a package deals.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Well, Jeff Lamar, if you were gonna bet now, think
Lamar's coming back here.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Oh, I've already said it. I'm I'm I'm No, Lamar's gone.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Yeah, I didn't even matter of fact, we got it
a tweet that says you said Lamar was going last time,
stinking Genus Lamar. He isn't going anywhere.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
He almost was, though.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
I think he feels some bad blood in Baltimore. No,
I can't be in his head. It just feels that way.
I want to go out to the next time.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
I wanted to bring up to really quick on Baltimore.
Another reason why he might want out. Why is Baltimore
always so beat up and hurt? I'm talking from top
to bottom. It's not just Lamar Jackson. There's something's up
with their their their training team, their their physical therapy team,
their recovery team. Something's up there. Go look at Baltimore's
(12:42):
injuries over the last five years. They're always decimated by injuries.
Why is that the case there? What's not being done
to keep these guys? Because there's a department in every
pro football, basketball, hockey, baseball franchise, there's a depart me
that's in charge of what Arnie cheaping the guys on
(13:03):
the damn but sometimes for our diamond or ice and
Baltimore can't seem to.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Do it again in ACL.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
That's not on the No, no, no, that's not on them.
But goodness, gracious, twinge here, tweak here, right right here,
twist here, come.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
On, yeah right, And I don't have an answer to
that one. But Lamar Jackson had a bruise and he
didn't play, and a lot of people are being very
critical about him for that, and I actually am. We'll
see if he actually is gonna be in the game.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
He got a team practice, You got a team for him,
just real quick. You got a team for him, for
Lamar Jackson, you got a team for him. I like Miami.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
I was gonna say if he if Lamar had his
choice right now and they said you could pick any
team to play for. I believe he'd picked Miami. I
believe Miami wants a quarterback. Obviously they're gonna move on
for Tua. I just don't know how it's going to
work with the money. To be honest with you, that
that makes my head spin to think how I'm gonna
cut him and get him and eat the cap and
(13:59):
do this, And it just makes my headspend trying to
figure out mathematics.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Million if he signs a new deal, you gonna that.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
From No, But I don't have to pay it, so
you know I'm not the order. Let me get to
two of those, because I don't think he's gonna be
back with Miami. But where is he going to end up?
I heard people telling me on Sunday and Monday he's
not a starter in the NFL. I'm like, look, Tua
is not going to a team where he's not going
to be a starter, or at least compete for a
(14:28):
spot to be a starter. And it's a legitimate spot
to compete. There is Vegas, there is Arizona, there is Minnesota.
There are teams that are gonna want somebody like Tua.
In this case, the grass might be greener for Tua.
I still think he's a starting quarterback in the NFL. VJ.
(14:48):
I'm not ready to give up on him. I'm just
ready to give up Ottom with Miami.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Yeah, I think he's still a starting quarterback. Here's what
I said a few weeks ago, Hartman, Montsie, everybody on
the show Bow everybody agreed with We were all right
and wrong about Tour. Everybody was everyone was right and
wrong about Toa for various reasons. We were right about
(15:13):
Tour when he first came out of college and everybody
was tanking for Tour, and he led the league and
complete some percentage, then led the league in yards, then
led the league in QBR. Right, he did those three
things in three separate seasons, leading the number one offense
in the NFL back to back years. That's not easy
to do. But there were also people that didn't like
Toua that would be able to catch up with time
(15:35):
with the concussions and say, oh see he can't process,
he can't throw. I did some research on this about
two weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Yeh.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
The average reaction time slows down for a NFL player,
anybody that's had more than two concussions by upwards of
twenty five to thirty percent. When you watch him play,
he's not processing fast the concussions because you don't get better, Arnie,
like you've heard Troy Aikman talk about it. You've heard
(16:05):
other players. You don't get better. Troy had to just
walk away from Remember Troy Aikman had to retire because
of concussions. It wasn't age, It wasn't it wasn't it
wasn't longevity. It was his career got cut short because
the quarterbacks are hit at.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Right, and they're not playing on the vet turf.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
They're not playing on Texas Stadium to what basically the
protective big carpet over carpet over concrete. It's what those
stadiums think about it. The Giants think about the games
they used to have to play in the NFC. East Man, goodness, gracious.
So I think that Tua could still be a starting quarterback,
(16:44):
but I'm just not sure if it's gonna be with
like a contendent type team because his reaction time is
slowed down because the concussions have taken a toll. And
you could just see him also too out there. He
doesn't want to get hit, and I saw somebody trying
to clown him on ESPN about that, and I really
got pissed about that, cause it's like, bro, if you
if your life had flashed in front of your eyes
(17:06):
three times in your career, you might be a little
skittish too. Let's not sit in a warm, cuzy studio
and now try to act like someone is soft. Where
do you want to go? If I if I think
he's out of Miami, To be honest with you, well.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
But if I'm Tua, I'm saying, you know what, guys,
I know it might might might not be the best situation.
I think I'd like to go to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Maybe have Tom Brady work with me, maybe get some weapons.
I do have a good running back, and get gentry,
get the interview.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Taking the best player in the draft. If you had
the Raiders and not taking Mendoza.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
No, well that's the Raiders for to choose from. I'm
probably taking Mendoza. But I'm just saying, you know, if
I can get a quarterback, and I don't have to
pay big money. But you don't have to pay big
money when you're just drafting a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
Later on you do, we don't have to pay big money.
If the Dolphins trade him and have to eat some
of the salary for you don't have to eat most
of it exactly that you're getting You're so you're getting
a veteran guy. You are, Yes, you went through the
wars who played on her, smart guy like Mike Madde
and we can just go to him really fast. I've
been saying since September on our end Zone show, he's
not getting fired. I have connections with the Doggs. Mcdanieals
(18:16):
he's not getting fired.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
He's I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
The Ross likes him a lot, and Ross has told
people close to him, if I fire him, we're just
resetting again. The problem is retention of players. People keep
leaving Miami, and that's a GM issue. And then they
finally got rid of Grier and fired Greer. Not only that,
they fired a VP of operations and the assistant VP
(18:39):
of operations. They have two major positions in the front
office that are hirable right now. And the reason why
no one's filled that job, I'm telling you I talked
to someone in Miami this week. They're waiting for mister
Lewis Riddic to finish the thirty nine Bowl games he's
been calling, and you've been watching a lot of bowl games.
You hear this guy, you just feel like you get
smarter about the sport of football when you listen to him.
(19:01):
But remember he was in the Raider front office and
the Washington Redskins now the Commander's front office. So he's done.
He's been in front offices before, and he knows the
game and knows talent.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
It depends on who Miami High years.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
If that GM now then looks and goes two, is
our quarterback. Let's just beef up our quarterback room. Zach Wilson,
thanks for your one year, but go Quinn will give
you another year. The players like Quinn. Did you see
devon a chain talk about him?
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Right right right?
Speaker 4 (19:29):
That's that's not a player. You're kissing the teammates. That's
how he feels about the guy.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
I gotta tell you something. If I'm if I'm TUA
and you betch me like that, that's like VJ. If
my girlfriend says, yeah, we're still going out, but I
do have a date with another guy this Saturday. I
hope you don't mind, you know what. I I'm sorry,
I'm the hell out, I'm out of here. If I'm too,
I'm so hurt. I don't want to take another snap
(19:53):
for the Miami Dolphins. But but I know you can't
think like that. But that's just me. You you play
Quinn yours, you bet me, I'm out of here.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
I don't like I don't like that. That does the
show toughness to me. The reason why, and I'll be
fast on the re the break. The reason why I
thought they bitched them is because once they knew they
were being eliminated, it's not been a good year. Let's
here here, buddy, Let's get you out. Let's get you
out of there. Let's not get you hurt. Let's take
a look at the rook I really thought, and I
said that on live air. I really thought that's all
that was. Man. It's like, listen, let's just take a
(20:24):
look at the rook We're out of the playoff run. There.
There's no reason having our fifty six million dollar quarnerback
out there playing for nothing, and all he needs to
do is get a concussion in week seventeen. That's the
last thing we need. So that's how I always viewed that.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
We'll go through some of more of the names, and
we got some coaches. We'll go through some of the
games for Week eighteen. All that coming up next. VJ Husky,
Arnie span you'l right here on Fox Sports Radio.

VJ Husky, Arnie Spaan, you're in for the guys. I
ride here on Fox Sports Radio. Real quick, before I
give you another name, I'm just kind of curious. Give
me a letter grade on the whole entire year. I
gave it a C plus. I didn't like the year,
like I said, the lack of races for the wild
Card and we didn't get a whole heck of it.
I just I gave it a c plus I didn't
(21:54):
Maybe it was my Dolphins suck. I don't know. Didn't
enjoy this year.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
To be honest with you, VJ and you I give
it a night because yeah, I'm telling you why.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Gosh.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
I looked at this year, yeah, as the true changing
of the guard, and it was fun for me because
I'm at the age now where I've lived through three
generations of the NFL, you know what I'm saying, Like
three generations. Like when I came into an NFL fan,
I came into the domination of the Niners in the
eighties and Dan Marino coming in and breaking records right away,
(22:27):
which brought us into the Cowboys, which then led us
into Brett Favron at Packers, who then let us into
John Elway and the Broncos. We then let us into
Tom Brady and then not Tom Brady, we had Brady Rogers,
Big Ben Peyton, Manny and Philip Rivers. Like we went
(22:47):
through a twenty year run of the same guys, whether
you like them or not. Flacco stole one, Brad Johnson
stole one, Trent Delfer stole one. But for the most
part it was gonna be one of those guys. And
now all those guys are gone except for discount double check,
who looks terrible up in Pittsburgh. And now you have
(23:11):
Bo Knicks. Now you have Kayln Williams. Now you have
Jaden Daniels. Now you have a a D. Yeah, Jaden Damils.
He was just hurt this year. Let's not count that, gal.
Let's let's not do that talk. Guy's still good. Now
you have Joe Burrow. Now you have Trevor Lawrence awaking up.
Now you have Jordan Love. Now you have Justin Herbert
(23:32):
Dak Prescott. You have now this general Jared Golf. Right,
you have this generation now of the changing of the
guard in the NFL. Whoever has the best quarterbacks and
the best coaching are gonna be the teams that are
gonna be in the conference championship game and that are
gonna play for a lot of Super Bowls. That's just
(23:53):
the way the NFL has been for fifty years.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Mahome's not gonna be in it this year, that's for sure.
Right now, that he's one of the best, the best
chan changing of the guard though. So that's what was
so interesting to me this year is it was fun
to see Bryce Young might have a shot to win
his first division championship.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Drake Mays won the division championship. Uh, Sam Darnold can
win his first division championship. Brock Perty can have a
bounce back. I thought this year was an a because
we saw the changeing of the Bijon Robinson. Now it's
best back in all around back in football. We've we're
seeing a chain. Our guy down in Miami leaves the
league in yards per carry a five point six a pop.
(24:34):
Like you're seeing a change in the guard. That's what
made the season fun for me. I'll ask you this
and I'll let you go on after this, Arnie, is
there a clearcut team that's gonna win the championship this year?
Speaker 2 (24:43):
No, not at all, matter of fact that yeah, but
there you go. It is wide open, and maybe it's
kind of like it's like the March Madness, where if
I don't have blue bloods in it, I don't enjoy
it as much. And that's the way it's normally. We
like the first round upsets but we like the blue bloods.
In the final four, it is white, which I enjoy that.
I just didn't enjoy the season. But to me, throw
(25:03):
out a couple of names that you more and we
got a couple of games to get to. Here's a
quarterback who I like, but I'm in the minority. He
did good things when he first came into the league,
but now he's definitely on the out. So we're talking
about Kyler Murray. Where do you stand on him? Is
he still a starter? I wouldn't mind seeing him in Miami.
Do you like him or are you ready to give
(25:23):
a pass on him? No?
Speaker 4 (25:24):
I still like him and he's still a starter. I
just I would want to know where you.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Convinced me right off that with that as far.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
As football, because I would I would want to sit
in a room with him. Yeah, and I would want
to try to figure out what is football to you? Like,
that's what you got to know? What is football to you?
So you believe that he's playing the video game?
Speaker 3 (25:45):
No, no, no, no, no, none of that.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
I just think that something not think being at a
cover pro sports personally, I see guys who love it
for what it gives them and the lifestyle it gives them.
And then I've seen guys who love it no matter
what the lifestyle is, and they would do it for free.
You see both of the sides of that. Like justin Herbert,
(26:11):
like I've covered them for two years now. I've talked
to that man twenty times. He would play if it
was free. Right, He's not doing this for money, He's
not doing this for fame. He's not doing this for fortune.
He gets paid a ton because he's an NFL quarterback,
but you can tell he's invested in this, like this
comes first, second, third, doesn't have any children yet, so
(26:33):
this comes first, second, third, and then maybe the girlfriend
is like fourth or fifth, but football's first, second, and third,
maybe even fourth. You surety you might line up at
number five and you're just gonna have to take that
slot if you're gonna date me, because I'm the quarterback
of the Charger. So with Todd Kyler, I would need
to know that truck Jets are in the market. I
think I think the Jets are the team that's probably
(26:54):
gonna make the biggest push for him.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
Vegas may know Vegas.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Ends up with the number one an overall pick, right,
there's not a quarterback in the NFL today, not unless
they trade for Burrow. If they trade for Burrow or Lamar, okay,
but they have no choice either trade that pick and
get out. If you don't love Mendoza after the pre
draft process, sitting and talking with him pro day, combine
all that stuff. If you're not sold one hundred percent,
(27:22):
gather more picks and let somebody else go up and
get him and say, hey, we'll find a veteran of
eight Kirk Cousins. Kirk Cousins is out there, there's another
and he's looked fine. He's looked good for Ortlanta these
last few weeks half of the season that Pinnix was
ruled out. So I just if you're not gonna take
Mendoza at number one, get out of that pick and
(27:43):
maybe replace your quarterback. That's someone that's already in the league.
But it better be a damn good replace.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
All right. Let's get to some of the coaches. Let
me start with Pete Carroll. I don't think he's coming back.
He obviously wants to come back now though, the only
thing that's making me hesitant on this VJA is that
the Raiders already have paid three head coaches early, they're
still paying one. How many do they want to pay?
(28:09):
Do they go one more year? I'm ninety percent they'll
get rid of people. That part of me feels maybe
they'll give one more chance. What do you think?
Speaker 3 (28:17):
No, I listen, he's done. This isn't working.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
But I'm just talking money wise.
Speaker 4 (28:21):
I was thinking, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter, just
eat Okay. So the example I'll give you is dever Broncos. Yeah,
when they moved for Russell and what was that cap hit?
Like fifty eight millions? Yeah it was, it was over sixty. Yeah,
but they said, listen, we'll eat money. We'll eat it,
eat it now, right, instead of dealing with it later.
(28:42):
Let's find a QB. Let's just struggle through these first
few years and then pop they get a rookie quarterback
that takes it to a playoff game and then this
year just won the division. Like sometimes you gotta just
eat the money up front. Stop thinking about this money,
this cap hit and all this other crap. Eat.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Yeah, man, what about somebody like Aaron Glenn with the Jets?
Do you keep him one?
Speaker 4 (29:02):
Yeah, a year you have to keep he doesn't have
the reason why you keep aeron Glenn. He doesn't have
a quarterback. You can't fire coach without a quarterback, right,
he doesn't have a quarterback, So how can you fire
that guy? They fired a defensive coordinat which they should
have because teams have been running up and down. But
once again, someone that covers this league. I've said this
so many times on our End Zone show Man. When
(29:23):
you get the week eleven, week twelve and you're in
these locker rooms and you're covering bad teams, trust me, Arnie,
some of those hamstrings hurt a little more. Some of
those caves hurt a little more. Some of those groins. Oh,
I can't go today. We went out pregame and we
gave it. No, you're two and twelve, it's thirteen degrees out,
we're up at Chicago. I don't want to play today.
(29:45):
I gotta hurt groin. We're two and twelve. That's what
I think is happening with the Jets and their defense
is just, you know, kind of falling apart. I don't
think Sauce gardeners as good as everybody else does. I
call him Grabby grab Hands. He leads the NFL in
his first three years in the League seven seven this year.
He was right exactly because he's overrated. But I've been
telling you this for years. He's so overrated. He grabs
(30:06):
and holds so much. I call him grabby grab hands
because he does all he does. But they moved on
from him. They traded Quent Williams because they needed draft
capital man to really try to rebuild this. I think
Aaron Glenn's fine, a right.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Real quick, give me, give me your short version of Stefanski.
They bring him back for another year.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Gone gone.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
He totally screwed this upright, he totally screwed this up.
And it's and it's not a shr door thing. It's just, dude,
you Baker got worse under you. How how's Baker looked
since he left Cleveland. Let's just go there.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Well, Baker did have one good year with.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
Cleveld one one and then once and then he but
he got worse as his career under the fans.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
The numbers should put you in the Hall of Fame.
But I know, right, I know right playing we're gonna
come back. We do have to go ahead and take We'll
get the three games first of Let's see what's trending.
We check it with mas.
Speaker 7 (30:55):
Hey, guys, happy to be hanging out with you tonight,
But we're gonna start with the upset of the night
ten Miami defeating two seed and defending national champion Ohio
State twenty four to fourteen. What's crazy is that the
Hurricanes turned the ball over in the red zone on
their second drive of the game, but then turn things around.
They shut out the buck guys in the first half
(31:15):
and had to pick six. Carson Beck only threw for
one hundred and thirty eight yards and a touchdown, but
it was enough. The Hurricanes are headed to the semi final.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
BJ.
Speaker 7 (31:25):
You're not gonna want to hear this, but Arch Manning
put on a show at the Citrus Bowl. He threw
for two hundred and twenty one yards two touchdowns also
rushed for one hundred and fifty five yards and two
touchdowns as Texas defeated Michigan forty one to twenty seven.
When it comes to the NBA, the Spurs were down.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
Nineteen and came back to beat the Knicks one thirty
four to one thirty two.
Speaker 7 (31:45):
Victor Ian Banyama suffered a slight hyper extension in his
left knee early in the fourth quarter, but initial tests
came back negative and showed no major injury. Good news there,
so he ended with thirty one points and thirteen rebounds,
while Julian Champagne, I.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
Think he's always says his name.
Speaker 7 (32:01):
He had eleven threes and he ended with thirty six points.
The Nuggets survived one oh six to one oh three
against the Raptors as Brandon Ingram's game ty in three
at the buzzer was overturned after video review. Paolo Bancaro
hit the go ahead shot with about seven seconds left,
and the Magic defeated the Pacers one twelve to one ten.
Ben Caro ended with twenty nine points and ten rebounds.
(32:22):
The Hawks topped the Timberwooves one twenty six to one
oh two, Warriors over the Hornets one thirty two to
one twenty five, where Steph Curry dropped twenty six points,
while the Cavs snapped the Sun's four game winning streak
coming out on top one twenty nine to one thirteen,
and the Wizards edged the Bucks one fourteen to one
thirteen despite thirty three points and fifteen rebounds from Giannis
Ante to Kombom.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
Happy New Year guys.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Back to the new year, Monsie certainly appreciated. As we
get ready, Yeah, twenty twenty six, we'll come back, wrap
things up, get to those three games in the NFL.
All that coming up next right here on five Sports Radio.
Wow show just flew on by. We got a bunch
of games to get through, VJ. So let's get right
(33:06):
at it. Panthers Buccaneers not necessarily winner gets to go,
because if the Falcons win, that means that is good
for the Panthers.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
Man, I don't even have to win.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
They don't have to win to win the division.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
Right, But who do you see in the Panthers Buccaneers?
Speaker 4 (33:22):
How do you like?
Speaker 6 (33:23):
No?
Speaker 4 (33:23):
Give me to give me the Panthers and my man
b Why, Man, I'm excited for this team. I love McMillan,
the rookie receiver, my man Rico Dowd or running back
that's been running his ass off for him. This defense
plays well, they do. This is a good, young, fast,
aggressive defense. And the Bucks haven't been well since like
(33:44):
week eight, man week nine, they've been Yeah, they've been
terrible to last a lot of injuries. To gimme, gimme
b Why makes one more play than my man beastly Baker.
But I'm gonna take the Panthers here and my man
Bryce Young.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Seattle and San Francisco. San Francisco wins this game, they
don't go on the road until after they win the
Super Bowl because the super bowls in their own backyard.
Who do you like in this one? Seattle though the
number one seed. If they go ahead and win this,
I believe. How do you see this game?
Speaker 4 (34:16):
I've been saying, ah year long, this is a good
football team. I love what McDonald's done with this team.
He's invigorated his style of defense that he had up
in Ann Arbor at Michigan, which Jesse Minner is also
using with the Chargers. You're talking two top seven defenses.
But Sam Darnald, as always since he was at USC,
(34:37):
when the game is on the line, in the biggest moments,
he'll give it up like an ig model on All
Star Weekend. Man, he's gonna turn the ball over. And
this San Francisco team, I don't know how Shanahan has
done it. I had Rabel as my Coach of the
Year two weeks ago. I can't change that. I gotta
stick with it. By the rules of the end zone,
show that we do on Sundays. But if Shannonhan, how
(35:00):
the hell has he pulled this off with running McCaffrey
into the ground over three hundred and sixty touches this year,
receivers out, defensive players out, Bolsa gone, Warner gone, How
has he done this with this team? And when he
finishes it Saturday night, they're gonna win this game. And
I think they win this game by four six points.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Ev mister irrelevant quarterback, what do you think of Brock Purdy?
Speaker 4 (35:25):
Now, I mean he's listen, he's a good quarterback. He's
a good quarterback. Pro listen, gamis props, o, game is propse.
I don't think he's super great, but if he's good
enough to get your job done, contract right now, you
gotta pay the quarterback. But he's good enough to get
the job done. And my line with quarterbacks says, if
he's doing what the coaches are telling him to do,
(35:47):
who the hell are we to sit here and go, oh, well,
he does your throw deep? Well, the coaches ain't told
him to throw deep. The coaches are saying throw here,
hand here, and he's doing that in their winning So
he's doing his job. So beginning to nine er here. Now,
I think they went by lay four to six points.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
You do this job because they're winning. That's totally, that's
totally has to do it, and that's they'll be happy. Ravens, Steelers,
Tomlins lining. Is Tomlin's job on the line? Is Lamar
going to play? For sure? How do you see this one?
I think Pittsburgh gets to win here.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
I think Lamar has earned the right that if he
can go, him and Harball get face to face, man
the man, Harbaugh says, A kiddo, this has been an
off year, but we can erase all that bleep right
here tonight on the road against a division rival, go
get me this one. But we got big Deuce deuce
(36:45):
to turn in hand the ball to who's got his
confidence and got his mental game and got his wills back.
I think they go up there. Have you seen that
Pittsburgh rush defense this year? Oh my god, it's atrocious.
I think the Ravens go up here and then now
only save Harball's job, but they might hold off getting
rid of Lamar. Reports are from out from Breer, from
(37:08):
NFL dot com or ESPN wherever the guy works, that
there could be some discussions that tom Lin could not
be fired because they're not gonna fire him. It'll be
printed as mutual decision. Then go to TV or does
he take another job. I think the Raiders is perfect
for him because I think I think, I think, uh,
(37:29):
I think Pete Carroll's gone get him a new quarterback Miami.
Uh depends on who ad quarterback is gonna be. Honestly,
if it's to A no, I don't think he would
mess well with to him, absolutely not. I want to
McDaniel to stay, So don't even talk to me about
the coach from Miami. I don't want another coach McDaniel.
Look what he's done, just real fest Look what he's
(37:50):
done from getting so called fired. We had this passing
attack with Tyreek and want on all these weapons, right
so we don't have that anymore. What did he do, Arnie?
You know where to do? Offense? Rushing offense rakes in
the NFL right now?
Speaker 2 (38:02):
And I think what their number or one.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
Number fourth in the league with the running back that
has the highest per carry for someone with two hundred
and more care He's totally switched what he does and
what we were doing before. That's call coach he well.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
I thought he did a good job because I thought
we forced the ball to Tyreek Hill way too much.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
We thought we did so, I thought I thought they did.
But it's just kind of what you gotta do when
you got him, man, get real, Yeah, when you got him.
You know, like if you gotta vouch it to a
free steakhouse, you can. You gotta kind of take all
your dawn yere right, you gotta take all your dates
to the steakhouse and h not to outback.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
Once once again. Oregon Texas Tech tomorrow on the first
of January. That's gonna be the first game up right now,
still two and a half of VJ.
Speaker 4 (38:49):
What do you think Texas Tech.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Yeah, I'm gonna go with Oregon on this one. I
still think it's a coin flip game, though I wouldn't
be surprised if either team won by a field goal.
Alabama Indiana, I'm going with the episode Indiana now up
to a seven and a half.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
Point favorite seven and a half of Obama seven. They're covering,
Bama's covering.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
Yeah, yeah, I don't would take the points for sure.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Yeah, Bama's covering, but give me Bama straight up there.
I think Bama wins the game.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
I'm gonna go with the upset, right. I don't have
the upset number the money line, but I think it'd
probably be about plus two hundred two.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
Yeah, like two twenty. I would be like twenty.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
Georgia is still six and a half.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
Yeah, I told you George were old.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Miss gonna be a good game. I'm gonna go with
Georgia in this one.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
This is the blowout, just because one of these games
have gotta be a blowout. We're not getting three close games,
well four including what we saw tonight with Ohio and Miami. Right,
We're not getting four close games. Brother, one's got to
be a blowout. This is the ass kicking right here.
You don't have your coach. Yeah, you look good against Tulane.
Let's see what's up against a perennial two times at
(39:57):
the last four year national championship. Let's say how you look.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Give me a quick weather report for your Rose Bowl
game tomorrow. Is it still raining or you go?
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Right? Now? Here's the thing. It's it's said that the
rain's gonna break up at about three, But I'm just
not sure if that's still enough time to not be
so wet and soaked out there, man, so I'll see Plus,
I don't want to be cold, aren't you like fifty five?
My blood is staking out. I'm in La now, man,
I don't like my blood here, my friend, all right.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Thanks to everybody. Thanks to Breathe New Everybody, Happy New
Year for producing the show. Thanks to Alex Artech Little
director and of course Monsei on the updates. My partner VJ.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
That be New Year mind Money. I'll see you Friday, baby.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
I will see you Friday. Thanks to Smith and Harmon
for against fill in, Cake, Fig and Adam coming up next,
so stick around for them right here on Fox Sports
Radio
