Speaker 1 (00:56):
Mike and I love putting this content out for you
every single night. Yeah, man, eh, let's go before we
get to it. We'll get to the biggest story in
sports in a second.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
But we have to.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
I mean, this is going to become now that we're
getting out of college football, right because not that we're
out of it, but tomorrow's is the conference championships. Then
we're gonna get into the lesser bowls in the playoffs
coming up.

Speaker 5 (01:17):
And then we get the slap fighting on Sunday when
stuff gets announced and somebody's man happens.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
The Oklahoma City Thunder are going to start to become
a nightly topic because we've talked a lot about the
last couple of weeks about Man, they could get to
seventy three wins. I mean, if they went right now,
they're on pace to win seventy eight games.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
I think they're pace to go sad.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
But if it's this easy, I mean, how much of
a topic is it. Hey, it's an updown. Hey their
historic run continues.

Speaker 6 (01:46):
Here's a stat Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
No, it doesn't matter. I mean we've not seen something
like this. Man, they're twenty two to one. Uh shake Gilders.
Alexander scores thirty three.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
And here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
He say, Well, he's a scoring thirty a game. He
scored thirty a game left, he's only playing thirty minutes.

Speaker 6 (02:01):
To get it, you know. Yeah, Operation Domin. There's no question.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
Uh, they beat the Mavericks.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Look the Mavericks are terrible, but still they've beaten everybody,
beating everybody.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
But I really I need to say.

Speaker 5 (02:12):
You didn't say terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible and really bad.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Uh again, but they've beaten everybody. And I want to
thirty for thirty on how they lost to the Blazers.
I mean, I don't know how that happened.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
But they did.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
But uh shake Gildish Alexander thirty three and three quarters tonight,
that's all he played. And they are now twenty two
and one. And you know, I go back to Rick
Buker when we talked to him last week and we said, Rick,
they look like a team that can challenge. And Mark
Stein joined us last week too. They look like a
team that they can They can challenge that seventy three
win Mark, and and I just it sticks in my

(02:47):
head when he said they could do it, even though
they're not gonna try to do it. You know, like
Golden State tried to get there, the Bulls wanted to
challenge themselves to get to say how many wins can
we get to?

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Because look, the Bulls got kind of.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Bored when after year, Yeah, you know what they did
regular seas they actually went.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
And won the title after winning all those games, Hi Warrior.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Fans, how do we challenge ourselves?

Speaker 7 (03:10):
Right?

Speaker 4 (03:10):
How do we do it?

Speaker 1 (03:11):
That's they did, But it doesn't even feel like the
thunder is saying, hey, we're looking for that now. It
just seems like, as you said, it's easy for them,
and it's been easy all season long. Like there's times
I feel like I could coach this team. Yeah, whatever
you guys normally do. I'm gonna see her and have popcorn.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
That's all.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
I'm just gonna say it. And then when I get mad,
I'll throw a chair. If I get really mad about something,
just like get spotlight on me. Even though we're up
by twenty, I'm gonna throw a chair. So I'm gonna
do that.

Speaker 6 (03:36):
Just we do's something crazy?

Speaker 5 (03:37):
It take someone's popcorn and just pass it on down
the line, or just start talking with the bench like
Lebron the other day. I mean, there's lots of things
you can do to pass the time right now, Shay Gildess,
Alexander is averaging thirty three point six minutes per night now.
To be fair, the last couple of years he's only
been slightly above thirty four, so It's not like it's

(04:00):
a massive difference, but it gets exacerbated and becomes a
bigger story when you're talking about margin of victory.

Speaker 6 (04:07):
I think Steve gave us I think it was eleven times.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
You know that he's at thirty by the end of
the third I mean, like all of that, it's just
absurd the level of domination and depth. And then we're
already having the conversations, you know, because again, you know,
you add the next storylines, the soap operas, the Giannis
and Tenna Kompo, once he's healthy and ready to go,

(04:31):
you know, destinations and possible trade partners. And we talked
about the fact that the thunder and are in such
a position of power, all the young talent they have,
oh and what three first round picks including whatever the Clippers.

Speaker 6 (04:45):
Is for next year.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
I mean, it's just the absurdity of roster building and excellence.
And for Sga, who once upon a time was you know,
a guy that was interesting and we talked about him
a lot here watching games laid into the night on
the West Coast. But now he's become the game's MVP
and a guy that everybody's holding up as that next

(05:08):
guy for this next decade.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
I really it really without even trying, Without even trying,
it feels like, yeah, yeah, yeah, we could do this.
Yeah that's fine, don't worry about yeah, or we'll get there.
We're only playing thirty minutes a night.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
We don't even it. Like every game it feels.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Like it's just hey, we are just we're not that,
we're not that we're punching a time card.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
But it just feels like we're going out and executing right.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
When they played the Warriors the other night, you got
into the fourth quarter and the Warriors, it felt like, hey,
all right, this is a game. They can get them right.
They're playing at home. Everybody's hitting threes. Draymond Green is
hitting threes in the fourth quarter, and and the crowd
is going nuts, and you're like, wow, man, this could
really happen. Yeah, Oklahoma City won by eight, Rod like

(05:53):
you really thought they back it. No matter what Oklahoma
City did, the Warriors have come back down hit a three,
no steph Like Okay, it's that night and it's like yeah, no, no, no,
we're gonna win by seven or eight.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
And that's how it's gonna go. Like that, that's how
easy it seems for the thunder.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
Un Yeah, our fourth quarter outscored them by nine. The
closing ability is just absurd with this squad. But yeah,
it's one of those things where in all sports, it's like,
not that we've hit that level of I dare say
the boredom effect, right, or resentment like we've had go
back to those warrior squads. Look in the NFL, people

(06:31):
are like, all right, I'm tired of the Colts. I'm
tired of the Patriots. Now one did a lot of winning,
the other just won a lot. Add the Saints to
that mix. In the NFL side, it's like, all right,
it's the same teams racing deep into the playoffs that
we're seeing in primetime spots and the quarterbacks getting all
this run with the NBA go back. Remember when the

(06:52):
Spurs were dominant, Well they were boring. Now these guys
are anything but boring, don't get me wrong. But when
you're winning with such a level of efficiency and excellence,
it becomes the all right, Yeah, the distance between them
and everybody else is huge.

Speaker 6 (07:06):
All Right, who's battling for second? Let's go.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
You just wait till the Knicks get Yannis and then
we'll see what.

Speaker 6 (07:12):
A look at you.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
But yeah, man, they may have to do that. They
may have to make the NBA playoffs worthwhile and the
finals worthwhile. Adam silvermight have to announce we are allowing
the Eastern Conference the Knicks to have a super team
transfer for City Thunder.

Speaker 6 (07:30):
Did you get that that throwback jersey and that I
sent you? Did you see that those Knicks jerseys?

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (07:38):
Yeah, get that Marbury man, let's go.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Sure, you're gonna put together a super team. We're gonna
give you Yannis all that's f Yeah, ye, don't worry
about it. We'll give the Knicks Maxi too. He'll be
your shooting guard.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Yeah, no, you'll be fine. Don worry about it.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
Everybody gets twenty four hours to submit the case as
to why their disgruntled superstar should be reassigned and relegated
to the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
It's gonna be Knicks super team versus the Thunder. All right,
here we go your NBA Final.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
And then those teams, uh get to lottery balls and
the team that loses their superstar gets the most and
we shovel up and deal trying to play for second place.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Meanwhile, biggest sports story of the day the World Cup
draw happened, and maybe you watch some of that crazy
Fever dream Show today which just didn't make any sense.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
Like we should have live streamed a reaction to that, man,
because that was crazy.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
You could have watched that thing with the sound on
or the sound off and it would have made the
same amount of sense, right, Like, Okay, here's the village
people and they're singing, but they're not singing all the
words to the song. And here's an hour and a
half of President Trump getting a made up award for FIFA.

Speaker 6 (08:48):
There he is dancing to the YMCN.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
What is what is happening?

Speaker 6 (08:53):
What is this? Here's Kevin Hart and Shack.

Speaker 5 (08:56):
And like, yeah, I was waiting for it.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
And into the Brady Bunge Variety Hour, it was Oh.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
No, no, dude, it was it was like the Star
Wars Christmas special.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
I don't know what made more sense?

Speaker 6 (09:10):
Shows up?

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Yeah, I don't know, man, Diane Carroll, Sure.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
Sure, let's go watch what was she on Dynasty?

Speaker 6 (09:18):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
When you peel the potato all the way down, it
comes down to this for the United States, this is
what happens when you spend a lot of money, you
host the World Cup.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
You get a draw.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
In like the United States did in Group D, the
United States for the World Cup next year, Australia, Paraguay,
and a playoff involving coastvo Remania, Slovakia, and Turkey. Right,
that's a playoff involving those four teams, Australia and Paraguay.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
Well, Turkey's the number twenty five. Drank Team Turkey.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
Yeah, but you're not You're in a playoff.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Can't be that good, right, I mean, look, I already
know Australian Paraguay are not good.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
Right. We just played them and we beat them without
our a team.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Right. Still, when when Pocatino's trying to figure out what
he's got, and you know sometimes it's MLS players. Now
you're welcoming other people back from international play. He's still
trying to figure stuff out, and I have confidence that
he's the right guy. He continuing to put his stamp
on the team. But we won both of these friendlies
without our nearly close to what we what our full
power is going to be. Uh if we don't get

(10:23):
out of Group D, I mean, I know we got problems,
so we got we have soccer problems, and you wonder
this golden generation is it really that good where they
made stars before they really achieved it. I get that,
I get we have problems, but man, if we don't
get out of our group and into the knockout round
of this, we should stop playing soccer in this country.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
Fold it up, fold up.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
A YSO club, whatever it is, MLS will fold NWSU
because we're never making it out of this again. It's
just embarrassing. If we can't get out of this group
and get into the knockout round, we should stop playing
soccer because it's it's clearly, clearly it's not. It's not worked.
It's been a life. We've tried. We tried many different ways.
This is your tried, Nick's super iterations, many different iterations

(11:07):
to try to make it work, and it just hasn't.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
We should stop playing soccer in this country.

Speaker 5 (11:12):
Pocatina and these putting the A team together. Who's ba
barracas George, who's face?

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Man?

Speaker 6 (11:20):
Come on, let's go.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
Australia twenty six, Paraguay thirty ninth, Turkey twenty fifth, Romania
forty seventh, Slovakia forty fifth, Kosovo all the way down
at eightieth. Those final four teams part of that march
event to decide who else is in the group. But yes,
I think I like the cut of your jib here.
So either you need to have the Superman experiment like

(11:44):
we're Captain America or yeah, to your point, perhaps it's
time to give it up because we've been waiting generations.
You and I have watched this. I mean, how many
iterations have guys come through? Remember al Dador? Remember he
was gonna be that guy? Look at him?

Speaker 4 (11:58):
And we've been waiting.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
It's twenty two, twenty five, Okay, landon Donovan's goal against Algeria,
which was supposed to birth the next generation great, the
first or the first great great generation of US soccer players.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
That's fourteen years ago.

Speaker 6 (12:15):
Man, this is not Hey, you got to generation.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
That's fourteen years ago.

Speaker 6 (12:20):
Man, Like we were, we're always he.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Was supposed to be that. He was, like, I mean,
we're a nation of three hundred and seven. However many
million people we have, we can't find one striker.

Speaker 6 (12:36):
I want to see to guess.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
We can't find one striker, right, we can't. How do
we not have the best? I mean, at this point,
how do we not have that when all our resources
have gone here. The number of people playing soccer is
just like we should be there by now man. And
still it's like, yeah, okay, we gotta really help the
United States here because they're hosting everything. And I don't

(12:59):
feel bad about this because this is how it goes
for host countries, right, you get the fair amount of
the This is kind of how it goes. You host
the World Cup will give you a kind of a buye.

Speaker 6 (13:08):
And per Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Yeah, and if you don't make it, it's your own fault,
just so we know. But like, I mean, really, I
mean this is we should have been here by now man,
and we're still we're redoing it again. It's like I'm
watching the Jets, Like I don't know who's been less
successful the last fourteen years US men's soccer are the Jets.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
It's close, man, it is close.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
I think I've seen the same number of iterations with
the Jets as I've seen with US soccer.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
Yeah, I mean on the plus side, I mean, in
US soccer, you you at least get get into the
big events. You don't get an automatic placement in the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (13:45):
This is all right.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
You get to advance to the playoffs, let's see what
you do from there. June twelfth, Englewood, California, Paraguay.

Speaker 6 (13:54):
There.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
I mean, look, both of these teams that you're worried about, right,
Obviously we don't know who's getting in in the playing round, but.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Both of these teams are Australian paragrage.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
They're both parked the bus teams, right, They're both They're
not gonna come out with firepower and do a lot
of things.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
It's gonna be.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
This is made for the United States, where our specialty
is we jump on teams early, right you see going
the World Cup when we've had success the last ten
twelve years, it's, hey, we get out, get a goal early,
and then we have to hold off the other team,
right like that.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
That's kind of what it's been.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
We surprise teams early with our speed and and how
focused we are, and then it's about sustaining it.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
Right.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
That's kind of been our World Cup mo. And is
this plays exactly into the hands where Okay, they're gonna
have to make these teams do something they're not comfortable doing,
and that's opening play up and having to go up
and down the field. Like I mean it, man if
if we don't get out of group here, like I
don't know when we're ever gonna get out of group again.

Speaker 5 (14:51):
I really don't go put that on a sandwich board
and walk around the stadium. We'll put a go bro onya. No,
we'll make you the Al Frankin Hobole unit. Set you
down to the docks and see what you come back
with in terms of your reporting. With those kind of messages,
we should disband all soccer operations if we don't advance

(15:14):
eight seven seven ninety nine.

Speaker 6 (15:16):
Come on in.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
You want these kids growing up playing pickleball? Well, hey,
you go out there and mailed it in the second half.

Speaker 6 (15:23):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
He ain't a mouth out of Fresca Exit swollen dough.
The Jason Smith Show is My best Friend. By Carbett,
you want these kids to go out playing baseball. You
want these kids all go play bad? Go ahead, go
play baseball.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
Although that is.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
One of my favorites Laton quotes of all time when
when's Laton Ibrahimovich left to go back to play in Italy,
when he left the LA Galaxy, and he said, you
know the king is leaving, and you know typical's Lota
told he goes the King is leaving now now you
can all go back to watching baseball like like that
was his That was his parting shot to Los Angeles.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
Now you go back to watching baseball.

Speaker 5 (15:58):
Time Lebron send him a jersey as a as a
welcome gift that he sent it back signed.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, well because he said, now
oh now La has a king and a god.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
Right because you haven't Lebroad you at it, we have
a king and a god.

Speaker 5 (16:10):
Now a boy, he was fun. I enjoyed him. And
then when he was on Ted Lasso, oh yeah, well yeah,
what he was was zava yeah vaa. So again we
should we'll stop playing if we don't make it out
of group.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Coming up next, we dive back into our big Football Friday,
previewing two of the biggest games tomorrow that have college
football playoff implications, the two biggest games in the NFL
as well.

Speaker 4 (16:39):

Speaker 1 (17:24):
I feel like this could be in stranger things like
this could be uh at the end, like this one
of those montages where they're getting ready for the final
fight and fight against Vecna, and it's they're all getting
they're all loading up and Nancy's got the big flamethrower.

Speaker 6 (17:41):
I feel like I need to go rewatch the entire thing.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Uh yeah, you watch with Ty Shirt. Go over Ty
Shirt's house and watch it with him. He's now starting
from the beginning, dams all the way to catch all
the way up.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Yeah, start up.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Yes, I told him to stuff that that's not really true.
I told him, you know, Darth Vader's in the first
season and then they get into order the rings. Oh yo, Sorry,
I didn't know you were paying attention, So sorry.

Speaker 6 (18:04):
Yeah, I mean the potential is there. I mean it's
the eighties.

Speaker 5 (18:07):
You never know when that cross, like like the mashups
that he comes up with, you never know what's coming
around the corner.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
No, no, I didn't know that was going to be
uh Jose Feliciano and Billie Idol.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
I I did not know. No, no, you didn't not.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
You didn't know Tiffany was going to be a big
star again. I mean, all of these things happen.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
Man didditting. Didn't he knew.

Speaker 6 (18:26):
You were going to run up that hill? Beyond that
we got nothing?

Speaker 4 (18:29):
No, no, no, no, no, that song is done. We're done.
We're done with that song. We're done.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
I mean it's the holiday holiday holidays. He is it
a Christmas songho or not?

Speaker 1 (18:37):
It's not a Christmas song. Running up that Hill is
not a Christmas song. It's first of all, it's got
to be a good song, which it's not. And it's
got to be a Christmas song, which it's not. So
it's not not a Christmas song.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
None.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
Done done, by the way, the two can be mutually
exclusive terrible Christmas song.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
So coming up tomorrow College Football Championship Saturday, everything will
become clear after we see the action tomorrow. If Duke
somehow upsets Virginia, potentially likely it's James Madison headed to
the playoff because it's got to be the top four
rank conference champions and Duke with five losses, are they

(19:15):
really jumping ahead of James Madison after they won to
Night and all that being said, Look, I mean, Virginia's
really good, and look there's a reason why they won
the ACC They've been really good all season on they
have one conference loss. Virginia's gonna win this game. I
think the spread is a little bit low. I think
it's probably well, it's a championship game, but this is
a game Virginia should probably be double digit favorites. Virginia's

(19:38):
gonna win this game. We're not gonna have to worry
about it. But hey, when the All State Playoff predictor
says ninety nine point nine percent chance of James Madison
going if Duke wins, well, you got.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
To listen to the All State Playoff for do well.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
But you're saying there's the chance. I remember when they
got drummed by Illinois. Illinois was a number eleven team
in the country. They absolutely dominated SYRAC. Was that still
with your guy. No, that he would have been gone
by then. Yeah, I'm still trying to make that case
for Angelly for the Husband Trophy.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
The later was, that was the first game after angel
and you know what this is one of That's one
of those games. You know, if I really had money,
that was just like, hey, try to turn this money
into way more money. I'd have gone to Vegas and
put it all on Duke. Like, after losing Angelly in
that game, we are going to get steamrolled by Duke

(20:29):
and defensively, they're just gonna do all kinds of bad
things to us. And I don't think Duke ran a
passing play in the fourth quarter. I really, I don't
think they ran a passing play in the fourth quarter.
And that seemed like a big one at the time.
Now it's like, oh, well, yeah, of course they beat
Syracuse without Angela yea, and Jelly could be Hey, Jelly
could really be the Heisman Trophy. He really could be
look at one of the some of the years these
guys are having. He still could be the Higsman Trophy.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
Yeah, you're the real MVP, no question about it. But yeah,
this spread as we talked with Todd Furman. The last
hour is certainly a curiosity in terms of how this
game is being wagered upon.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
Now tomorrow the two biggest games we have. The biggest
game is the most fun game. Right, there's not a
ton at Steak here because both Ohio State and Indiana
are going to the playoff now, Yet the winner is
gonna be the number one team in the country and
get the buy and that's great.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
But you know, there's Steaks and then there's Steaks.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
I could love for that Heisman though I could be yes, yeah,
it probably is a showdown for the highs between Saying
and and Fernanda Mendoza, But I don't know that either
quarterback is going to be that great tomorrow. But I'd
love to be able to pick Indiana right. What a
great story they've been all your kind of America's team,
where all of a sudden, here's a basketball school that

(21:42):
suddenly is really really even better than they were last year,
and we thought they were overrated last year. I'll show
you overrated. But Ohio State is just that much better everywhere.
And that game against Michigan last week, Michigan, I don't
know how Ohio State didn't score more points against Michigan because.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
Michigan had no pass rush.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
I mean, the Michigan's defense is pretty Michigan's a pretty
good Michigan Team's not a great Michigan team, but it's
pretty good. It wasn't even last year's Michigan team. But
last year's Michigan team beat Ohio State, but at home,
they couldn't get to saying they couldn't stop their running game,
couldn't stop Bo Jackson, couldn't stop their passing game, couldn't
cover the wide receivers. I don't know how it was

(22:22):
that close for that long, right, Yes, a couple of
the big turnover early, but they stopped Michigan from getting
into the end zone and they controlled that game. They're
that much better than Indiana everywhere, and they've been waiting
for their stamp game to put on the season to
let everybody know. Yeah, I know we're number one and
people and people think we're number one, but there's that
question in people's minds that they really this good. How

(22:45):
good are their big wins? When you see what a
team like Texas lost three games. They've been looking for
a stamp game. They will get it tomorrow, you know,
even though Fernando Mendoza could win the Heisman with a
big game tomorrow, I don't see him having a big game.
I'm not sold can be great against Ohio State. It
may be close for a little while, but if Ohio
State doesn't win this game something like thirty four seventeen,

(23:07):
I'll be really surprised by the end of the day tomorrow,
which should be met. It's the Ohio State Playoff Invitational,
like the Oklahoma City Thunder and everybody else in the NBA.
It's Ohio State and everybody else in college.

Speaker 5 (23:19):
The more I've looked at this, and we've been talking
about it tonight, I'm going the other way.

Speaker 6 (23:23):
I'm gonna take the narrow win.

Speaker 5 (23:24):
I'm I'm gonna take Signetti to be able to give
us some classic quips because he ends the streak last
win October eighth, nineteen eighty eight, Anthony Thompson running them
up one hundred and ninety yards four touchdowns as a team,
they're over three hundred.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
Just so you know, he's not playing that game in
his nineteen eighty eight body.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
No, I know there's not happening tomorrow, Okay.

Speaker 5 (23:47):
I understand that. I'm just invoking some memory, sense of history. Okay,
twelve eighty one and five, the forever legacy of this battle.
They did win two in a row back then. This
is the curiosity right with Ohio State. And I'm not
one of those guys saying I don't think they're any good, because,
certainly SEC Country, when you're trying to prop up the sixth, seventh,

(24:11):
and eighth teams in your conference with they should all
get in because these guys haven't played anybody. I just
think Indiana with the Signett's the style, and they're gonna
come out attacking, and certainly Ohio State giving up just
seven point eight points per game, I'm not looking for

(24:31):
them to light it up by any stretch of the imagination,
but enough of an offense to give them a battle
and to eke out a win here in what is
essentially a home game.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
Anthony Thompson had twenty six touchdowns rushing in nineteen eighty eight.

Speaker 6 (24:48):
Average five yards an he did.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
I want to say he finished like third in Heisman
Trophy voting that year, like he was one of the finalists.

Speaker 4 (24:56):
I want to say he was. He was that close
to winning the Heisman Trophy.

Speaker 6 (25:00):
Well, let's let's go back and look in the magical
time machine, and.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
He had even a better year in eighty nine. He
ran for like eighteen hundred yards.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
I mean you having a better year in eighty nine.

Speaker 5 (25:10):
Yeah, we go back in the nineteen well, nineteen eighty
eight Heisman is Barry Sanders, Rodney Pete, Troy Aikman, Okay,
J Walsh.

Speaker 6 (25:22):
Major Harris was fifth.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
Oh, he was my favorite. Major Harris was so good.
He could throw the football five hundred yards. I love
Major Harris.

Speaker 6 (25:31):
Let's see.

Speaker 5 (25:31):
And then in eighty nine we get the Andre Ware year.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
Okay, yeah, that was that was exciting.

Speaker 6 (25:39):
Well, I mean.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
Anthony Thompson was second. Yeah, Anthony Thompson was second that year.
Major Harris was third. Rice, Oh yeah, Tony Rice, Yeah,
he had a e.

Speaker 6 (25:48):
Smith was seventh, Percy Snow type.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
Sure.

Speaker 6 (25:53):
But Blair Thomas and how about that.

Speaker 1 (25:56):
Ex jet ex jet Blair Thomas, how about that? That's
right nineteen flear Let's go.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
Yeah, andre Ware one.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
I was like, that was so unexciting because nobody saw
Houston play.

Speaker 6 (26:06):
Oh they didn't.

Speaker 5 (26:07):
Forty six touchdowns, fifteen interceptions, the fifteen but this is
a great example. The fifteen interceptions would get him absolutely
killed in today's game.

Speaker 6 (26:15):
Oh sure, oh shut it off and he gives them
ball away.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
Yeah. No, h five.

Speaker 5 (26:19):
Hundred and seventy eight attempts in college football in nineteen
eighty ninety. It's insane by way of contrast. I mean,
who else we get why?

Speaker 6 (26:29):
You had detmer he had He had four hundred and
twelve attempts. Yeah, and it was only one hundred and
forty yards behind him.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
Yeah. Yeah, I love that.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
When when Tony Rice, you know, finished fourth in eighty
nine the Heisman and Heisman Trophy voting.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
He threw two touchdowns that year, he threw two. He
was back, he had sixty eight completions.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
Yeah, but but he was a running quarterback.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Okay, he ran for eight hundred yards, he had seven touchdowns.
He didn't even total ten touchdowns that year. He finished
fourth in Heisman Trophy vote.

Speaker 6 (27:02):
You know who I'd love to go back in a
time machine.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
That is that is Notre Dame bias, but there like
like I was gonna say that, your old friend Bino,
I'd love to get him. All right, let's go back
in the time capsule for those arguments for the Heisman back.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
I mean, he didn't even have two thousand yards of
total offense in eighty nine, not two thousand yards of
total offense.

Speaker 6 (27:25):
That's a quarterback. Yeah, I'll take Indiana with a narrow victory.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
Over everybody loved Notre Dame.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
Now you want to see where a team needs to
win to get in Alabama and Georgia. Look, George is
getting in eleven and one, you know, ranked third. If
they lose their still in but Alabama a loss, that's
gonna knock them out. I'm not sold on either one
of these teams. You know, we talked about this earlier
in the show. Alabama's offense is not great. It's kind
of hit the skids.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
Georgia is not that. It's not that.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
George is not good. George is not the overall dynamite package.
They were winning back to back and they've kind of
been a little inconsistent, little up and down. I'm just
not sold on them. Alabama needs the game more. But
Kirby Smart's got Alabama issues.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Man, Like it's gone.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
It's gone from Hey, he's lost his first couple of
games to whoa. He's got problems with Alabama. And that's
part of the narrative for Kirby Smart, so I will
take Alabama finding away. The offense gets untracked and jumps
out to an early lead, and they hold on. They
cause problems and Klin de Boor gets that stamp for
Alabama and sends them to the playoff.

Speaker 5 (28:35):
One in seven since becoming Georgia's head coach against Alabama,
of course, one of those national title games and winning
Jude titles, right, because the narrative would be with anybody.

Speaker 6 (28:48):
Else, we watched it with James Franklin.

Speaker 5 (28:50):
Congratulations to Campbell going there and taking that job, and
the fact that he retains his top on assistant who
signed a four year deal. Right, Terry Smith's gonna stay there.
But all of that, we'd be having a much different
conversation about Kirby Smart if he didn't end with those
two titles. You can't beat Alabama, you can't finish off

(29:11):
Alabama one in seven. Ty Simpson and company, the average
thirty three game, just curious about their closing ability. Right,
they'll get out to a good first half, can they
finish the job, because the passing game has certainly cranked
down the second halves of a lot of these SEC games.

Speaker 6 (29:31):
But we were in lockstep. I'll stay with you there
in this one. That they win a narrow a narrow
one to solidify their space. Just a curiosity of how
high they.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
Go exit out bout of Fresca, exit swallowing down the
two biggest games on the college football calendar tomorrow. We
got more coming up in ninety seconds. But first let's
find out what's trending from man who's been called the
Kurt Signetti of Fox Sports Radio. You'd be surprised how
low his buyout is here.

Speaker 7 (30:01):
Please, you're gonna talk about extension, then I knew you'd
be lying. We had four conference title games in college
football tonight and yes tomorrow, Number two Indiana against number
one Ohio State in Indianapolis on Fox TV for the
Big Ten title Saturday night.

Speaker 6 (30:17):
Each team is twelve to zero.

Speaker 7 (30:19):
College football selection Sundays this weekend, when all the playoff
teams will be named and the bowl matchups come out.
Tulane should be making the playoff. Twenty thrank Tulane at
home won the American Conference title, leading twenty fourth rank
North Texas thirty one to seven and the third thirty
four twenty one the final as North Texas committed five
turnovers and was sacked five times. The new coach at

(30:41):
North Texas now due to be Neil Brown ex of
West Virginia because after this season, Eric Morris is leaving
for the Oklahoma State job. Tulane's coach, John Summerle will
leave for the Florida job. The Sunbelt title went to
twenty fifth rank James Madison at home at beat Troy
thirty one fourteen. It was only seventeen fourteen with under
five minutes to go, even though the defense had eight sacks.

(31:03):
Troy punted ten times. Attendance twenty thousand in Virginia. At
Boise State, Broncos won the Mountain West title again, beating
a UNLV team that had been ten and two thirty
eight to twenty one the final. Broncos were out to
a twenty one nothing lead late first half, and in
Conference USA's final, Kennesaw State a winner at Jacksonville State
nineteen fifteen. Attendance eighteen thousand in Alabama. Kennesaw State had

(31:26):
blown a twelve nothing lead and the fourth did win
anyway on a touchdown pass in the final minute. Iowa
State's new coach is Jimmy Rodgers from Washington State. They
had an opening because Matt Campbell, after a decade and
three Big Twelve Coach of the Year titles, did leave
for the Penn State job. Alabama running back jam Miller
is questionable for Saturday with a leg injury, and backup

(31:47):
running back Kevin Riley is out. Former SEC commissioner Roy
Kramer died at the age of ninety six. He served
through two thousand and two. Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos
is appealing for a fifth year of eligibility to the NFL.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will play Sunday. He returned to
full practice today. Washington QB Jaden Daniels, after the dislocated elbow,

(32:09):
will return to start Sunday at Minnesota. Vikings quarterback JJ
McCarthy will start after clearing concussion protocol and no injury
designation anymore for running back.

Speaker 6 (32:19):
Aaron Jones of the Vikings.

Speaker 7 (32:20):
Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is out for the year with
a foot injury. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, with the broken
left hand, was able to practice on a limited basis again.
Running Back Alvin Kamara out for the Saints with injuries
this week Bengals wide receiver T Higgins returns Sunday at Buffalo.
He cleared concussion protocol. US men's soccer will face Paraguay

(32:41):
and Australia next Summer's World Cup, and then it'll face
a European playoff winner. The fee for World Cup draw
was today in Washington, d C. The Americans will co
host the attorney. It'll be on Fox TV and FS one,
A forty eight team tournament next summer for the first time.
The NHL's late game went to Anaheim at home in
overtime win against Washington for to three. In college hoops

(33:03):
number eleven, Gonzaga's destroyed Kentucky ninety four fifty nine in Nashville,
Kentucky's record five and four. The Wildcats shot twenty seven
percent from the floor sixteen for sixty from the field.
Notre Dame won in overtime at TCU. Xavier beat Cincinnati.
The late NBA game to Oklahoma City, which is twenty
two to one. The Thunder one a fourteenth straight game,

(33:25):
beating Dallas one thirty two to one, eleven Indiana and
Memphis with wins Denver and Boston as well.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Back to you now, Steve, you said, Thomas Costellanos for
a six year is what he is appealing.

Speaker 7 (33:36):
For fifth, apparently because he wants the year back from
UCF a few years ago.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Okay, all right, because you know how Bourman would announce
this story.

Speaker 4 (33:44):
Okay, yeah, Burber would say.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
And TJ clearly it's a deep appeal into left field for.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
Costellanos to get that fifty year.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
TJ, all right, uh.

Speaker 6 (33:57):
You made him a lot man. You can't hear, but
he's laughing.

Speaker 7 (34:01):
That was Tom Brenneman's favorite joke.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
All Right, thank you, Steve.

Speaker 6 (34:09):
I'll have a great night, all right, Thanks you.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
A deep appeal in the left field by so.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Coming up next, we take a look at the two
biggest games on the schedule this week in the NFL,
the Big Sunday Night showdown and first Place and potentially
the number one seed in the NFC at Steak Steak.
That's next Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
Just brings a tear to your eye ten times season.

Speaker 5 (34:46):
Yeah, ten times more. Entertaining than that dog barking fame.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
Come on, barking dogs at jingle bells, the barking Dogs.
You know when I first started doing radio at in
college at the Jason Yeah, like, and I was on
it at Christmas. You know how many requests I got
for Hey, can you play the barking Dogs doing jingle bells? Yeah, sure,
we're gonna do it. Like that was like the most
request that in anything. New Kids on the Block is

(35:13):
like the most requested song ever. Oh yeah, yeah, they
love the jingle bells. Loved it, loved it, loved it,
loved it. I mean not quite Grandma got run over
by a reindeer, but you know, somewhat close.

Speaker 5 (35:23):
No, that still remains one of the the all times.
Little Elmo and Patsy for you out there, they.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
Were actually a real, real life married couple.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
They were married, then they got divorced, but they did
the song together. I wonder if they split the royalties.
I assume they would.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
Yeah, that's a that's a pretty good run. We're still
talking Elmo and Patrick.

Speaker 6 (35:42):
But that's the thing, right, you get that longevity?

Speaker 4 (35:45):
Yeah. Uh.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Now, the two biggest games of the week in the
NFL one in the AFC, one in the NFC. Let's
start with Sunday Night football first, the Texans and the Chiefs.
I've been your Chiefs whisperer the entire season. I told
you it was going to be struggle, but it was
gonna be a great year for Mahomes. And each week
I'll tell you I've been right on with all my

(36:06):
Chiefs picks. Right, I told you exactly what's going on
every week for the Chiefs. It's all If not for
like these seventeen or eighteen plays, we would have won
all of this. Yes, Jason, you hate the Chiefs. You're
picking the Texans. This is where Isaac, when you think
I'm gonna zag. This is a Sunday night game in
Kansas City. It's gonna be a battle of what quarterback

(36:26):
can do enough to win this game. And when you
break it down like that, this is a Mahomes game,
he will do enough to win. Right, stock up on Mahomes.
This is a game they have to have. The Texas
defense will play well, but this is not a great
setting for their offense, which is still somewhat limited to succeed.
I look, there's games where the Chiefs are are out numbered,

(36:48):
out manned. And if this game was at one o'clock
on a Sunday in Houston, it would be different. If
this game is one o'clock in Kansas City, it might
be different. But at night, Casey's gotta have this. They're
six and six. The next loss could knock them out.
The Texans are playing really well. They've gotten back into
contention in the AFC South. This is a tough one.

(37:08):
It's a close game, but I'm gonna take the Chiefs
in this in a twenty three fourteen type way. They win,
and all of a sudden, next week we're saying, oh see,
he told you the Chiefs are still really good now
they are. They beat the Texans best defense in the AFC.
We're gonna have to go through that talk next week.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
But the Chiefs got the win.

Speaker 5 (37:24):
Two top seven teams getting after it. As we go
through it, you're looking at the Chiefs at home, a
three point favorite, forty one.

Speaker 6 (37:33):
And a half your total. It'll be cold, it'll be miserable. CJ.

Speaker 5 (37:38):
Strouden Company looking for Nico Collins and that receiving corps
to make enough noise in the secondary and for the
defense to rise up field goal kicking contest. I think
Mahomes will be special, particularly with his legs distancing himself
from the other running quarterbacks. See what I did there, Yeah, yeah,
But Houston's defense is enough, causing enough with that defensive

(38:01):
front and the fact that the Chiefs are down three
starters leads me to believe that they can make a
player two and get the pick, get the turnover, and
get themselves to pay dirt.

Speaker 6 (38:13):
So give me the Texans in the upset.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
Bears and the Packers first place in the NFC North,
maybe the number one seed in the NFC overall. Come on, now,
everything screams Packers in this game. But if I believe
in the Bears, I'm going with the Bears. Right, Chicago's
the better team. Green Bay is too streaky and they're
too prone to the clunker. Even if Jordan Love doesn't

(38:38):
turn the ball over, which he's going to, because that's
what Chicago's defense does, their defense will be enough. Chicago
has pulled it out all year. Anytime they need something
in the fourth quarter, they've done it. They haven't always
looked great, but they've always found a way to do it.

Speaker 4 (38:52):
Green Bay has been really inconsistent. This will be.

Speaker 1 (38:54):
Another big run day for Chicago. Play action for Caleb Williams. Again,
Either I believe in Chicago or I don't. They know
this is the week they can gain the most believers.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
It's a huge game for them.

Speaker 1 (39:07):
They're looking at saying, hey, we really have daylight now
between us and everybody else in the NFC North. Give
me the Bears, Mike Carmon, your Bears to win this game.

Speaker 5 (39:15):
Bears plus seventeen turnover differential as opposed to the Packers
at plus four, the Packers at six and a half.
I certainly take the Bears with the points. No great shakes.
You got that win over Detroit before that, Minnesota, Yeah,
the Giants, Okay, Philadelphia, the offense still hasn't shown up
and they lost to Carolina. All Right, those back to

(39:37):
back losses Carolina and Philly where they scored a combined
twenty points.

Speaker 6 (39:43):
In those two games.

Speaker 5 (39:44):
I think the Bears could to make a game, and
I think the Packers win a narrow one. But would
I be shocked if the run game, including a little
bit from Caleb Williams, got them over the hump. No,
I would not be Just believe in your Bears, Mike, Carmen,
believe in you. I don't believe in Beatles. I just
believe in me.
