You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my bes friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Gid you.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Now, we'll get back into the NBA Playoffs in a second.
But I want to say this because you know, I
was thinking about this today. Went to go see Mission Impossible. Yeah,
I have no spoilers. No, no, there'd be no spoilers
Mission Impossible, no spoilers. Know, I'm not spoiling. I'm not
spoiling the title of it, I would say, because I
went in with very little expectation because the last one,

(01:00):
you know, much as how great this this movie franchise
has been, like the last one was just really disappointing.
Yeah you were not a fan. No, it was really
convoluted and it was confusing. And I said I'm going
with no expectation because I got a feeling it's going
to be a big mess. But I think after seeing it,
I can say this that the title should be Mission Impossible,
The Final Reckoning Part two not as confusing as you

(01:23):
think it's going to be. That's a hell of a
sub title. I was not as confusing as you think
it was going to be. It was. It was enjoyable.
It was it was long, it was a little long,
but it was enjoyable. And the stunts, I mean, the
the one stunt at the end of the movie. I'm

(01:43):
not saying, of course, there's a big stunt. I'm not
not not selling anything. I'm not splaying anything. The big
stunt at the end of the movie. Your jaw will
drop as you're watching it, Like my jaw was dropping.
I'm like, how how did the how are they doing this?
How are they doing this? I'm saying, this is is
I could just watch this for it was like and
it was like twenty minutes long, but this is this

(02:05):
is insanely good. I don't know how they're doing this,
how he's doing this. It was. It really was impressive.
Great way to if this is the end, I mean
maybe they bring him back for something. But I mean
he is getting all he's sixty three now, Like at
some point it's like, okay, I like, what's Tom Cruise
gonna do when he's seventy? Like said, he wants to
keep doing all this stuff till he's one hundred. Okay,

(02:25):
that's gonna be tough. Man, lying age, defying gravity, all
that stuff. I mean, could he do? I mean could he?
I guess he could do stuff like Equalizer or like
Liam Neeson, like taking movies. I guess, But I got
cause I does he really need the money? I don't know.
He loves making movies, man, He let movies. That's the thing, right,
thing of selling a movie. Is there any other actor

(02:47):
or actress that looks happier being in front of people
talking about making a movie? Oh no, than him as
an A plus actor? And he does? You think the
movie really sucked? That? All the rounds he's doing, You know,
it's it's you know you think about, yeah, you're right,
because that he was old boy? How good is this?
But like I think about the you know, when when
George went died last week? Yeah, I know, right, Like

(03:10):
I'm okay, when George went died, right they you saw
all over social media. The final scene from Cheers, sorry spoiler.
The final scene from Cheers when Sam had left UH
to go to potentially be with Diane one time, but
he comes back to run Cheers and and and George
Wentz says, well, you always come back to your to

(03:30):
your to your love, and he goes, well, I left
Diane there, and and George Wentz says, think about it, Sam,
think about it, and he leaves, and like that's the len.
Then Sam goes back, you come back. He comes back
because he loves the ball and he loves running the bar,
right yeah, he loves running the bar like Tom Cruise,
loves movies like more than anything else, and making movies
like he is. He is the guy standing up holding

(03:51):
up the entire movie. And I remember during COVID when
that gets out, he was screaming saying, we're trying to
keep the movie industry alive, so you gotta wear mats,
you gotta do all this stuff. We're trying to keep
movies going, just screaming at everybody one of the mission
impossible sets. Right, here's the rules, here's the protocol, whether
you agreed with it or not, that was the protocol
that was set yep. So he wanted to make sure

(04:12):
that nothing got shut down. There is nobody happier doing
what we hap to be in that and it really
is something. But like all the pop ins to theaters,
the shot of him talking with the the AMC crew
that was there, yeah, and standing in the city was
there for like twenty minutes, asking movies and whatever else. Like,
I don't know, we should all be so lucky. I mean,

(04:34):
you and I love coming in and doing what we
do and we're blessed to do it. For him, he
ain't gonna do it till he's done. Oh yeah, and
then probably twenty years after. Yeah, well he still got
that movie's supposed to do where he goes out. He's
gonna actually do it on the International Space Station, Like
he's actually gonna go up there and be there like that.
You can always take an l and a knick kid.
That's the Challa maye. Who do you think they would

(04:55):
cheer four more Tom Cruise or shallow mate? Well, Cruise
would be more enthusiastic, Oh shalam, He's pretty enthusiastic and
showed up with some timberlands. He's just up with Nady
Armis and don't forget the battle arena is uh Charles Hey,
he may be coming back Oakley. There was a big

(05:16):
story that Oakley coming back. Well condition his condition was
it's not like it's not like a lifetime band for
Charles Oakley, like put him in a glass. Caliburton's dad
is back and his his lifetime band left in like
ten no indefinite, indefinite suspension. But as far as like

(05:37):
a plus actors, you don't ever see them make the
rounds for a movie like that like this for everything
he does. Yeah, I mean really, I mean to get
people out and it's one of those movies and that
it's a spoiler. But you know how sometimes movies open
and the actor thanks you for coming to the theater,
Like that's how the movie opens, like you go, you
do the Nicole Kidman, we all show up here. It's
kind of funny. Nicole Kidman. Then Tum Chris, you know,
we all show up looking for magic and the whole

(05:57):
AMC thing whatever. And then the first thing is Cruz
come on going, thank you for coming to the theater
to see Mission Impossible. Uh, I hope you enjoyed this. No,
it's just him. No, it's just what I'm saying. I
enjoy the movie. Yeah, it's not really me. Shut him,
shut him. But he was the elastica. He's the only
other guy that has done the same thing because he

(06:19):
he toured for for the Dylan movie for months yea,
as it opened in every country. So I mean that
embrace it. Look, and he says, you know, look, I
hope you enjoy it. We made it for you. Uh it.
It's been a great run for this, you know, thanking
everybody that did the movie, and Christopher McQuary to and
my producing partner, and you know, hope you have much

(06:40):
fun watching it. We really enjoyed making these films and everything,
so thank you for coming scenes. This is the before
the This is not part of the movie. You said
it was the first scene. Well, no, this is the
first thing you see, is this and then the movie starts.
You think about in the scene. No, no, no, this
is this is separate from the movies before the views
starts burning in you hear it. It was about the fighting.

(07:02):
But I mean, this is thirty years of a franchise though.
Yeah the first was ninety six. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's it's it's all the same people, right, it's some
of the same rames. Still, Yeah, you have ving rains, Benji.
You know, wait kind a question.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Yeah, what's the point of making how many movies up?

Speaker 1 (07:19):
There?

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Is there a mission impossible?

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Technically seven? Final Reckoning was in two movies.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
So there's basically eight, I guess theoretically, and again it's
an impossible mission. So what's the point of keep what's
the point of making seven movies of that?

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Because eventually you might get to a mission that's impossible
that he can't do, that he can't pull off. Maybe
this is the one that's impossible. It can you pull
this off? Maybe? Maybe not? You know, you said he's
been going since ninety six, Mike, ninety six was the first.
How many championships have the next one? In that time?
Mission impossible? We went to one finals and lost because
you ain't got hurt, wasn't the question? And we're gonna

(07:52):
win this year, okay, zero? Okay, zero zero zero.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
So they're trying to beat the mission that's impossible.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Zero. Hey, all I know is it's impossible. Came out
the Mets beat the Dodgers two out of three. Well,
I know, three games, White Sox to one. How about that? Yeah,
a couple of walk off Sacra barely beat the White Sox.
It's okay, okay, eight one and one doesn't matter. I

(08:18):
don't care. Okay, we just beat you two out of three.
That's everything. Okay, Well next week when you guys come
next week, we hang the banner for beating the Dodgers
too out of just there. Yeah, that's what we Yeah
that what next time? You got next year? Sorry, we're
out here. Next week, maybe we hang the banner out here.
I'd hang it out the series. Where's Jason's arms? Uh?

(08:42):
Middle weekday next week, so it's like Monday through Thursday.
Next week it's useless. Yea, we'll go Thursday. Yeah, there's
a day game on Thursday. Yeah, day game Thursday. Yeah,
let's go. Uh unless the Knicks are playing in the finals,
so you're playing the final, Mets are there, so it
might be as easy as getting into an Angel gamey Oh,
I don't know, man, Nick, Mets Mets Dodgers draws really

(09:04):
a lot of after Wait, we had a lot of people.
We can uh one in the afternoon. I guarantee you
there will be the biggest population of Mets fans there
for that game. Well, because they don't have jobs and lives. No,
because it's easier to get games because Dodger fans don't
go to day. Look at June fifth, June eighth, June eleventh,
going to the uh the NLCS games last year, right,

(09:24):
I went to Game two, in game six, Game two,
which was during the day, it's a little different. Way
more Mets fans right, way more Mets fans there. But
then Game six, which was at night, way more Dodgers fans.
Right there were hard There weren't that many Mets fans there,
but the Mets fans it was almost split permission slips
from their parents, all of them. All of them said
they could come to the game. All right, so we

(09:46):
have Thursday Sunday Wednesday or games one through three of
the finals, Okay, Thursday Sunday Wednesday, so Thursday, okay, but
it's Thursday night, so we'd be okay, Thursday night, be fine.
Yeah for Nick's thunder, be fine. Thunder. Now, hey, you
talk about the Pacers, you know, after today, I think
the pacers are running scared. And I'm serious about this, Like,

(10:07):
why am I even singing Roy Orbison Because Pop's Halliburton
gets reinstated, right, Tyre's Halliburton's dad, Well, they call him
Pops Halliburton on the un mess. I'm okay call him Pops.
So Tyre's Halliburton's dad is now allowed to go to
Game four, yeah, where he had been temporarily banned from
going to Pacers game since earlier in the playoffs. When

(10:30):
the Pacers eliminated the Bucks. Right after the final horn
of the final game, Halliburton's dad comes out onto the
court holding up a towel with Tyresee's picture on it,
taunting Yannis bad luck, bad optic. Uh. Jannis has a
lot of class and listen, everything seemed fine after everything
is good, but Halliburton's dad gets banned from the game.

(10:51):
But he also didn't know it was his dad right away,
right right, crazy guy. By the way, where's his brothers?
I mean, look, I know they've been hurt and whatever else.
Those guys should have been on the end of the bench.
Those are your protectors. Yeah, they getting paid to do
They're not getting paid to play basketball. I'm not running
on the floor. Man. You're dealing with that crazy guy yourself.
It's all good, So fired you're off family payroll. So

(11:12):
he was banned from the games, couldn't come to the arenas.
But now the band was lifted and he can come
to the home games. Now he's not gonna be able
to sit court side, he's gonna have to watch the
game from a suite. And he still can't go to
the road games. So he said, yes, all of a sudden,
my band has left. I have to sit in the suite.
Oh and get free food and have a bathroom and
all poor game for you. Let me tell you right now,

(11:33):
if I'm the Knicks, I'm saying the Pacers are scared
because they could have easily reinstated him for Game three,
but they didn't, and they lose Game three and they
blow a twenty point lead. The Knicks don't play well.
Good luck trying to make sense of this series, because
it doesn't. Karl Anthony towns four points in the first
three quarters and then he goes off for twenty in
the fourth quarter, Like where did that come from? But

(11:55):
they could have put him in after for Game three,
but no, no, no, there's no no coincidence that after
Game three they go, hey, we're gonna let let Halliburton's
dad come back to the games. They're looking for some
kind of spark coming off of this game. They want
to get maybe get Tyrese Haliburton back to being the
dominant guy he was in game one in game two.
There is no coincidence they did this between game three

(12:18):
and game four. They are looking for a spark. If
I'm the Nicks, I'm saying we got them scared right now.
We got them scared whatever happened there, whether it was
we won and Jalen Brunson didn't have a dominant game,
or we won despite the fact we played terribly and
we had a good fourth quarter. But I look at
this and I go, paces are running scared now for
this game, because why is Halliburton's dad back for this

(12:38):
instead of what he could have been back for it
simply could have easily been back for game three. But no, no, no,
They're looking for some kind of trump card, something to
get the Pacers back in a positive frame of mind
for game four. Does Mellencamp introduce him like with a
song or something. I mean, I'm trying to think of
Indiana he would do small town. I was born in
a small tailors ladies and gentlemen beat the Knicks in

(12:58):
a small back Yeah, Pops Haliber and John mellancn And
there he is up in the up in the booth
with special guest Caitlyn Clark. The Caitlyn Clark kind of
lips out a little bit waves everybody does this long. See,
that's what I would do. Forget about Pop's Halibur. Caitlyn
can't play it. Tell you what you don't travel? You
come out for game four? Will you give us a lift?

(13:19):
You're missing a big one. Who I'm missing? Axel Rose
Man he's on tour. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And well he's
from Indiana. Yeah, oh you remember that? I think, Yeah,
he's got to remember I came from somewhere. I forget.
Like he's like in the Lord of the Rings movie.
I've been alive for so long, I forget where I
came from. Well, some people want to forget and they

(13:41):
do their best to. Uh. Here's Axel Rose and Larry
Bird doing free falling And you say he's on tour.
That was That's been a hologram for years, Mike, Yeah,
I mean the guns and Roses. Guns and Rose have
been like the dead. They've been on tour since like
twenty sixteen, he took some time off. They just get
the back out. I think, right back on the road,
you know, while everybody's loving each other and getting along,

(14:03):
Go go make your money. But all of that to say, yeah,
I have to agree to an extent with you, and
and it pains me to do so. In terms of desperation,
we always say it it's stinky cano, but it's also
just that, all right, how do we get an edge back?
Because we just had a game where we blew a
lead just like they did, and we we thought we'd
taken their souls. Now they've taken aback. You went full

(14:26):
death eater on us in the fourth quarter and it
was all cat, let's bring him back, and he looked
like he was full up. Wow. It's like wow, Now
now you decide we got to bring him back. Okay,
I'm telling you. If I'm the next I'm feeling pretty
I'm like, now they're bringing back his dad, think tims
us that as bulletin boards, look at this. Yeah. He
stands with his arms folded in front of the bullet
and board says, look us here, tonight, look us here, tonight.

(14:46):
Hey guys, watch out because someone could be running on
the floor for you. Watch out, Pops Haliburton, look Out.
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Dizzy Reid coming coming up next. What does he read?
Still a member of Guns and Roses somewhat? Wow? I
take you're feeling like a space brain one more time tonight,

(15:08):
I mean, coming up next, we get back into the
biggest story of the night, the NBA. Fox.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. So we'll get back into the Thunder
and the Tea Wolves in a second. I didn't know
if I was going to mention this tonight, but I
will because I want to give you guys a chance
at this. Yeah. So you know Sunday Night Trivia night, right,
We go for trivia, yep, and it's all about hairstyles

(15:46):
Robert Head. Yeah. God, this is the whole show. Uh.
And we didn't win. And for the first time I
missed a sports question. Really, not only did I miss one,
I missed too. Where was your head. Here's the thing,
because here's the thing. Well, here's here's the thing, is

(16:08):
that they weren't really sports question. They were very loose
sports questions, right, he was doing the whole air quotes. Yeah,
so here's the first I'll give you, guys. So here's
the first. They go sports like, all right, great sports, OK.
But there are actually four sports questions. I got the
other two because they were really sports. These were like

(16:28):
tangentially sports. This is what I mean. So here's the
first one. He says the word steiny, which means to
stop or to halt something initially came from an obscure
rule in this sport hockey, right, what was the sport?
And I'm going, oh my god, I have no idea.

(16:49):
I was going to say, the little rascals, that's right.
I'm sitting there going and they're looking at me. I go,
I don't know, stop what, I have no idea? Why
would I even know? I'm going, Steinny, what could be?
And it was like it could have been anything. We're like,
it could have been yeah, sure, what do you think Mary?

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Tennis?

Speaker 1 (17:08):
No, not tennis. We went through all these different things
and we settled on on cricket. Like okay, okay, steymy
sounds like something from cricket. Okay, Like I mean, I
had no idea it was. It was. It was named
for something. It was an obsolete rule in this sport.
And we're like, okay, cricket, but let's risk zero. And
everybody was. We were like because usually we say, you know,

(17:30):
we risked, we risk all our stuff on sports, like
because I'm going to get it right. And I was like,
let's risk like one on this. We can't risk anything,
can't risk anything. And of course we got it wrong
because it was it was it here in like the
British Open, right, well, because you looked it up. I'm sure, yes,
you look you looked it up for us. You looked
up the answer. The steymy used to be a situation

(17:52):
in golf where one player's ball blocked the path of
another's to the cup. You couldn't put like no, the
you know, the person didn't move their ball, like if
you had to putt to the cup and the other
person's ball was there, they didn't let you mark the ball.
So you were stymied because you couldn't you couldn't get
so you had to put find a way to put
around it and and go it. But now they got

(18:14):
rid of that rule a long long time ago and
let you mark the balls you could put right for it.
So the steymy, you were not afforded relief and you
had to chip or chip over it or put around it.
And I'm going, I I didn't know that, Like I
know that. How did I not know that? One of
my favorite, my favorite lines of all time. I know
they made choke Lardie, but they ain't gonna choke Stymy. Okay,

(18:39):
one of his classic So so that was the first
when we got wrong. I'm like, okay, and then we
got the last one wrong, which was the finale. We
risked everything on it. We didn't get it right. It
wasn't part, but it was tangentially sports. It was. This
is the only group or person to perform at halftime

(19:02):
of the Super Bowl and only do their number one
hits all songs that reach number one on the Billboard
Top one hundred chart. Okay, only one? Yeah, well explain again,
only one person or group who got to perform halftime
in the Super Bowl and only did their number one hits.

(19:22):
That's all they did. No other songs. Okay, Mary go ahead, guess.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
My guess is either between Michael's accident and Coldplay.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
Okay, not Michael Jackson and Coldplay, Chili Peppers and not
the Chili Peppers. Now I had a great guess. I
had a great Guestamala's. They gave us a music clue
for it is. Okay, here's your music clue. Was it
up with people? Okay? And they played Mama's and the
Papas California Dreaming, And now I'm like, wait a minute.

(19:52):
Madonna did halftime of the super Bowl about ten years ago.
She has twelve or thirteen number one hit. I know
she had like a dozen or ten in the eighties.
I go and Mama's and the Papas, here's your clue,
because that's what it is, like, it's usually the name
of the group or the song is a clue for
who it was. And I said, Okay, Mama's Madonna, that's it.

(20:12):
And they were like, yes, Madonna, risk at all risk,
twenty We've bit twenty was not Madonna? Wait? Wait, can
I guess again? Yeah? Go ahead, Prince, no pristin. I
knew it wasn't Prince because Prince didn't have enough number
one hit. He only had like four number one hits. Surprisingly, right,
you only had like four number like top ten hits.
He had a million of them, but number one hits
he only had four. Doctors Ray No, remember Doctor Drey

(20:36):
had a whole bunch of people with him. That was
a fun show to see though he didn't do it.
He didn't do enough songs. But like all they did
all number and this is not something you could look
up right, like like was it Katy Perry. It was
Katy Perry. Wow, very good Frostburg. Yeah, it was Katy Perry.
Looking up, that was a pretty good halftimes. I'm like, yeah, okay,
remember that Katy Perry. Yeah. I didn't think Katy Perry

(20:56):
had enough songs because everybody does like an amalgam of
it and and everything. That's like, but Katy Perry has
like seven number one hits. Yeah. The Roarers are last
one she did, and I think she only did like
five or so year did she do was usually do
a halftime probably about yeah, about ten years ago, yeah,
twenty fifteen, because like that was the one where it

(21:17):
was like Taylor Swift and Katy Perry Lady Gaga like
three years in a row. Those were the those were
the people, and I'm like, oh my god. And the
clue was California Dreaming because Katy Perry's from California. I'm like, Okay,
that's a real weak clue. But Donna mom Is in
the pop was as better. But I'm like, yeah, okay,
so yeah, yeah, so they did so and the team

(21:37):
that won got Katy Perry. I'm like, I can't believe
that even if we got it, we probably wouldn't have won.
We would have come in second. So I mean, also
you'd take that question because she's recently been in the
uh twitter verse and across social media for a series
of really curious performances. Yeah, and uh boy, you didn't
think that someone could go from a lister to wow

(21:58):
like that fast, but there's plenty. I mean, how does that?
I don't know, man, Like you know, I always say, like, boy,
how did the Dolphins in a year go from a
team on the rise and they're gonna be the next
thing in the NFL? Everybody's fast and they got they
got the right coach in there, and then a year
later it's like we got to blow it up. Like
Katy Perry went from a lister a lister is she

(22:20):
nearly as popular as Taylor Swift? And now it's like, boy,
that album and I've heard Vegas she's like banned from
Well they lost, yeah they yeah her. No, it is
like Katy Perry is. It's like what happened just that
short amount of time to Katy Perry? But she was
answered Katy Perry. She had a good run. So two
sports questions, but they were kind of tangible. Well, I

(22:42):
mean the stemy question of sports. But I'm like, I was, okay,
it was easy. Now I'm gonna go home and watch
the little rascals. The mayor may not have been called
spanky for a long time in my youth. What I
what I wish the question was was, Hey, who do
you hold most responsible for the TA was losing tonight?

(23:03):
Anthony Edwards? Bet at all? Uh tonight? I don't know.
You might have had a guy or two us right, Oh, yes, show.
But look the thunder win tonight and it's almost a
foregone conclusion they're going to win this series. They're up
three games to one likelihood and according to the implied odds,

(23:26):
on six is the final. And you know, not that
I like to say I told you so, but I
kind of do uh is that the reason I picked
the Thunder before the series is playing itself out right
now over the entire series. Right. SGA is a much better,
more consistent superstar, right the reason why he's the MVP.

(23:47):
And Edwards is a guy that I think everybody wanted
to jump on, somebody knew who could be the next
face of the league. He had a big playoff last year.
And oh, he's athletic, and you know, he certainly seems
comfortable being compared to Jordan. Oh, he's the closest thing
to Jordan because he's got the sweat band that he
wears around his elbow. And Edwards is a fantastic player.
But I'm going with the Thunder over the Tea Wolves

(24:11):
because I know I'm gonna get a great series out
of SGA, and and Edwards still is a guy who
is going to have at least two games in a
series where he's not going to show up. And that's
clearly what we've gotten so far in the first four games.
Game one, he's a no show. Tonight, he's a no
show thirteen shots in each of these games. That's not

(24:34):
even trying to get into the game. That's being okay
with being taken away. Right. This is the second time
that this has happened, and I knew was gonna happen
because this is kind of who Ann Edwards is. And
I don't know if it's just he doesn't get it,
or if he needs a conversation with a Hall of
fameer or tell him, dude, when it's the Western Conference Finals,
you gotta show up for every game and if you
can't find a way to affect the game in your

(24:57):
normal way, you have to find a way around it.
We talk about Giljess Alexander who, Hey, he'll get to
the free throw line, he'll slow the game down, he'll
figure out away. This is guys who win the Mvpat's
why he's the MVP, and Ann Edwards is just content
to okay, I'll dish the ball off, like if there's
a couple of guys on me, I'll dish the ball off.
And that's kind of who he's been. Chris Finch talked

(25:18):
about it earlier in the playoffs when he said when
he had a bad game in Game one of the
last series, and he said, listen, we need you to
come set the tone and be a leader, right, it's
not just about scoring and taking shots, although that would
show me you're trying to get into the game. If
you are five for twenty two, okay, you tried again
in the game. You tried everything and it didn't work.
If you're five for thirteen, dude, you're the best player

(25:39):
on the court. You can't be third on the team
in shots. You can't happen, right and you get But
that's what happened to Ann Edwards tonight, and you're gonna
hear from him coming up in a second what he
said after the game, which which is even more damning
for him. But like this, this is who Ann Edwards is.
He's not ready to be the face lift face the league.
Doesn't take two shots in the first half like he
did tonight. Two shots from Ann Edwards in the first
half of the game tonight, not what two shots is all?

(26:00):
He took thirteen for the game. Dude. You have to
come into a game and when you need this is
win or basically you know you're going home. And still
it was yeah, ah, they took me out of the game.
They're able to take me out of the game. That's
not how it works, man. Yeah, we'll get we'll get
to his comments in a second, because they're distressing if
you're a Timberwolves fan and you're banking on long term

(26:22):
success and he is only twenty three, so there's learning
to all of this. But you think the sting of
last year would still be there right at the opportunities
that they had, and then you're coming back. You make
some substantive changes to your squad, and you're getting that
level of support from your secondary players, but you can't
get to the fall one look sga. We can argue

(26:44):
about it all we want, and you watch it and
at times it's laughable. The forearms shiver, and he gets
the call, okay, fine. A couple of times tonight he
tried it and the referee either looked the other way
or once it was actually an offensive file call, like
how is that not more consistent again, rather less fewer whistles,
But let's be consistent and actually recognize what we're seeing

(27:08):
in those moments. But Edwards did nothing that to try
to slow the game down, to get into the game,
to affect it at the foul line and give the
other players a bit of a lift. Right. Offensively, we
could criticize guys like Harden and so many other wow
volume shooters. Well and Edwards was a twenty eight a
game scorer this year on forty four percent shooting, not

(27:32):
exactly the model of operational efficiency, but showing that in
most games. And if you go back into his game
log for the year, there's a lot of eleven to
thirteen field goal games. Guess what they were against Charlotte
when you were up twenty And this is not it.
And it's not as if hey because he couldn't he
couldn't get to the hoop, he couldn't get his shots off.

(27:53):
He had fifteen assists, He had six assists and five turnovers.
Yeah right, he didn't have that night. He just was
incredibly passive, which happens to him now. Listen to his
comments after the game when he's asked about his before
Julius Randall also out of the barnments, when he's asked
about his performance tonight. Listen to him not take responsibility
for the Wolf for him in a night where he

(28:15):
goes five out of thirteen and the second time he's
a no show and the t Wolves lose. Here's the
questions about forty five seconds long. Listen to his answers.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
Definitely not the.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
I guess the points I wanted to get, but I
mean they didn't really let me get too many shots off.
They did a good job of debt. Every time I
had the ball, they showed me a pure brow. So
just making the right play getting off of it. And
I guys hit shots tonight, so we shout out to ten.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
So munch of you guys playffront the tho.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
It was a big nice from you and random and
how to kind of hit you for the fact that
you got to close.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
Struggle at the same time that I.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
Don't look at it like I struggled or he struggled.
They just they had a good game plan making us
get off the ball. Especially for me. Man, it was
super gaps. I made the right play all tonight, so
I don't really look at it like a struggle. I
didn't get enough shots to say our struggled. So that's
my thing might be how you guys look at it, Bok, Yeah,
I haven't struggled.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
Oh, I just I made the right way. I didn't
struggle at all. I just made the right play. So
the right play is you When you can't get to
the hoop with sixteen seconds left in the shot clock
to give it back to somebody else, or we're ten
seconds left in the shot clock to get it back
to somebody else. That's the right play. I didn't struggle, dude.
Come on, man, you got to take some kind of
responsibility for this, like that. This is the thing. This

(29:32):
has been a thing for the playoffs. Not my fault, right,
He's like, this is like Doc Rivers, except he's playing
instead of coaching. He's been walking around going, oh, you
can't blame me, it's not my fault. I didn't have
enough shots to say I struggled. No, you not getting
enough shots, dude, that's struggling. Like I think he needs
he needs to like sit down with Shock or somebody
big to tell him, Hey, you understand that you've been bad, right,

(29:55):
and your team is losing because you've been passive and
you've been okay with just passing the ball off. And
it's not like you pass the ball off and do
all all kinds of crazy things try to get open again, right,
And just like they even needed a great game for him,
They just needed him to have no but that score
twenty five. If you had a twenty five point night,
they wind up winning. He needed to be a B
to B plus player tonight didn't need to bring because look,

(30:18):
the bench was ridiculously effective, right Alexander Walker de Vincenzo
lightened it up from three point range as a bench,
You're you're at sixty point score, right when when you
look at their cult of the fact they picked up
for him, they picked up for Julius Randall, who was
one of seven or you want to talk about shot charts,

(30:39):
at least you had more than one circle for for
Aunt in a couple of the quarters, uh, for Julius,
Like I think that's I think that's a faint empty circle,
right yeah, right there. So, but like that's the thing
is that you got more than enough from everybody else.
They missed a number of free throws, three of those
from Rudy Go bear what you're expecting. You're not looking

(31:02):
for him to be a free throw merchant, uh and
go one hundred percent when he's at the line. But
to basically just shrug and say, ah, you know what
I did, all the other things I did the right
basketball plays, Like that's not something that you're the face
of a team, let alone a league. You can't know
after these comments. He's not. He's out of the physical

(31:22):
he is out of the face of the conversation. Shirker,
You're a shirker, abdicating abdicator. You're who was the prince
who abdicated? That was a big abdicator. Who's the abdicator
for the crown? Who is the abdicator Wallace Simpson and everything?
And who is that? The prince? Prince, Prince Fielder, Prince

(31:45):
uh Prince, Prince of Mukamara, Prince uh Prince. There's there's
a good poll right there, uh King Edward, King Edward.
There yea Barry Wallace Simpson a member. Yes, excellent. I really,
I don't know. He sounds to me like he just

(32:06):
doesn't get it to very matter of fact. It's good.
He's he answers the questions, right, he's sitting in front
of his locker, he's answering the questions. He's he's looking
at the at the reporters, answering and answering very factually.
But boy, I want you to seem a little upset
that you're losing. I want you to seem like you're
taking a little bit of responsibility as the best player
on the team. But instead this is like the third time. Hey,

(32:27):
not my fault. I didn't struggle tonight. You know I
paid the right basketball. You know what? Really this is
did we learn this from Lebron early in his career
when he decided to play hot potato in the NBA
Finals with the heat, like, dude, you need to take
you need you with the basketball and doing something is
a bigger impact on the game. And he realized that,
you know, well, even Kers got eliminated this year. Look

(32:51):
at all the rest of the guys on this roster
and Edwards, he just doesn't get it.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
In the middle of all the Q and A.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
Since he's being so factual, I would ask, what the
color is the sky in your world? Huh? See what
kind of answer you get? Exit out about a Fresca
exit swollen dome. We got more basketball coming up next.
We break down an absolutely stunning basketball injury from today.
That's next. Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Is this Miley's Hearts? Fox Sports Radio. This is a
number one hen party to the USA Dance Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon gotta listen to the whole show. So, if
you were like me, you woke up today and you
saw the big injury news in basketball, and you know,

(33:45):
I could point to TV ratings and relevancy and money
and all kinds of different things. You mean the Nie
Smith ankle injury. Yes, very devastating. But all I have
to do to illustrate that Caitlin Clark is the most
popular athlete in sports right now, not in basketball, not

(34:06):
in the WNBA, the most popular athlete in sports is
to direct you to the response after the breaking news
story earlier today that she's gonna be out a couple
weeks with the quad injury suffered during the loss to
the Liberty on Saturday. And okay, this was met with
reaction all over social media like she was done for

(34:28):
the year. It was all this awful news. I'm going, wow, Like,
I haven't seen reaction like I remember seeing reaction like this,
like when Brady had his ACL snapped in two thousand
and eight by Bernard Pollard right on that big, dirty
low hit, Like, Wow, Brady's out for them. My god,
I've never seen that. This is kind of the reaction

(34:49):
to Caitlin Clark being out missing these games. She's gonna
miss it. We don't react like this when Lebron is
out or when Jiannie is out or anybody else. But
yet Caitlyn Clark out and it's like, oh my good,
she's gonna be out of It's a quad injury. The
didn't even know she was hurt after the game. It's
gonna be fine, she'd be back in a couple of weeks.
Everything's gonna be okay. But this reaction to her. If

(35:09):
this doesn't tell you she's the most popular athlete in
sports right now, nothing else will. Yeah. I mean, we
look at just the gravity of it, right, because you
have all these other reports trying to figure out economic
impact for the year and where the WNBA is headed.
Obviously we've already seen expansion room for more moving games

(35:31):
to larger venues when the fever come to town. All
of those things are full of effect, right, some estimate.
You know that it's the billion dollar golden goose. Right,
that's the talk of the town. And when you talk
about television deals and expansion and everything else that you
know they're they're moving into a whole other sector and territory.

(35:52):
But then there's a void. You know, you got a
lot of great players, Wilson and Plumb and plenty of
star power, no watch it about it, but they don't
burn as brightly, uh, and don't light up Madison Avenue
quite the same way. And there's a lot of go
to Beckers and everybody else, like there's a lot of names.
Uh that that certainly film, but for this it became

(36:12):
the subruner film. I thought, wow, we saw her at
a time out where she had a heating pad on
her quad, so clearly something like but you don't know
what that is? And now it's the at least two weeks.
What does that mean? Does that mean three weeks? Does
that mean like she can't be done? Please, don't be
done because you have at television back at what was
all of it? One or two of their games, we're
going to be nationally televised, but Mike to carry the league,

(36:36):
the the the memes tonight of like Angel Reeves and
a tee Wolves uniforms. So now, man, wow, But look
there's another there's another angle of this too now, which is, yes,
she's out a couple of weeks, so I gotta I
think my timeline is going to be pushed to it,

(36:57):
but I would say by a round game okay, by
around game thirty, Indiana's gonna be viewed as the best
team in the WNBA. They may have the best record,
but by game thirty will be they're the best team,
right because look, they brought in a lot of new players.
They only had five players back from last year. It's
gonna take a while when Natasha Howard Dwana Bonner need

(37:18):
to get into the the you know what it's like
on the new team. And now with Kitlyn Clark out
for a couple of weeks, that's gonna pushed a little bit.
But let's say she gets back around the ten game
mark or so like that, I would say twenty games
after that. By game thirty, watch out because these are
star players. They brought in. Kitlyn Clark's an all WNBA
player and already she started out more dynamic than she

(37:38):
was last year. They're a terrific team. They should have
blown the Liberty out Saturday, and they were blowing them out,
but the Liberty of the champs. They know how to
come back and close games, and the Fever are still
figuring that part of it out now. They won the
end of the game that they were complaining about fouls.
I'm like, come on, Katelyn Clark had the ball stolen
and knocked out of her hands. Was not a foul, right,
I get it, But they were using the liberty. But

(38:01):
like I said, when you're the champs, these are certain
times we know how to come back from this, and
they were able to reel them back in and win
the game. Right watching it, I was like, boy, I
felt so Bags were the Fever, this would be a
huge you know, hey, plant our flag on this win.
But they need a little bit more time to figure
it out. But you see how talented they are middle
of the season, by more, maybe the last third of

(38:22):
the season, like right around game because they play more
game this year, right around game thirty, Fever will be
the best team of the WNBA. Yeah. It's also the
idea of getting used to the ramped up physicality which
was always there. But I think we can say for
both the w NBA from the early returns and for
what the NBA has been seeing a little more bodying up.

(38:42):
And for Caitlin Clark that meant some force passes into
contested areas and she finished with a double digit total
in turnovers this last game as well, averaging about ten
assists per game. Collier the Links jumps to the status
of number one contender for the MVP Trophy and the

(39:04):
Fever and the Links are just behind the Liberty in
terms of championship contenders. But I think to your point,
the number of changes they made, including a new coach,
it's a lot right in the fact they had a
long ramp up between showing up for training camp in
game one. So here here we are a couple of
weeks in and we'll see it as it evolves. And

(39:26):
the fact that they look good enough so far to
you know, look, they blow out the Sky but nearly
pull up, nearly beating, you know, beating the Liberty, that
you could tell her it might come together a little
bit sooner rather than that battle with the Dream Though
those two games were fun to watch, highly highly contested,
a lot of physicality and uh, let's just say everybody,

(39:47):
uh and Caitlin Clark, they all have problems with each
other's great it's good for business exit ab out a
