Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside final Hour tonight The Jason Smith Show
with Monsey Belanos in from Mike Harmon and Boyd. Do
we have a couple of finishes to tell you about here?
Number one, Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks fourteen eleven, down eleven eight.

(00:49):
Going to the top of the ninth inning, the Dodgers
score six runs before they can even have an out
recorded show. Heo Tani hits a three run homer for
the game winning runs. He bat flips. I have never
seen him do that before. Otani. Maybe he has and
I've just missed it. He has, I've never seen him batflip,
show that kind of emotion. And the Diamondbacks go out one, two, three,

(01:13):
We got ninth I mean, I mean, the game just ended. Sure,
we got to hear it. You got it. Let's know,
if it didn't end, we gotta hear. Well, hang on,
we have for something like this, we have run I
bring I say the same thing for the Knicks, and
you go, dude, no, we can't do that. We can't
do that. Come on, I'll say that to Manfred's face.
All Right, you got it. I got it too, So
let's hear. This is what it sounded like. Show Hey

(01:36):
Otani and the bat flip home run. Let's go and
Otani swags and the hammer's like Dick Brightfield way back
and down a three run home run for show, Hey toy.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
That was a five seventy l a Sports Dodgers Radio network.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
O Tani hits it and right away you know it's
gone because he flips his bat and this is again,
I know it's one of one sixty two. But I'm
telling you, throughout my life, I have seen teams where
and maybe now it's it's different, obviously because you have
more teams making the playoffs than you have. But I've
seen in the past where a loss like this mentally
you just don't make it back. Yeah, you just don't.

(02:14):
You're like you're like Maverick and Top gun Man. You lose, Goose,
It's taken me a long time to make it back. Man,
I don't know if I'm gonna make it back like
you have, Tory Lavella. Go and talk to me, Goose,
Talk to me, Talk to me, Goose. Like this is
where if the Diamondbacks go on a huge losing streak
and don't make it back, I would not be surprised.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
The silver lining is it's only May right, that's that's
literally the silver lining.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
But you're not wrong.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
There are ways to lose, and this was a crushing
way to lose for the Diamondbacks. They had it, they
had it, and.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
It's a three run lead in the ninth nin that
you had it.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
You had it.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Here's how the home run sounded on television. That Otani
hits but.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
One two coming from Thompson, and Otani.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Torches one toss and watches it. Those are all the
Diamondbacks fans leaving the ballpark. I'm done, I'm done, I'm done. Yeah.
This is one of those games where and the Mets
have these games like like two or three times a year,

(03:18):
or I just say, you know what, I need a
break from you guys for a day. I need a
break from baseball, from you for a day. It's not you,
it's me. It's not it's or I say, it's not me,
it's you. Have you are killing me and I need
a break. And then I take a day off, I
mentally recharge, and I go back this where the Diamondbacks.
I go, Yeah, I need a break from you guys,
maybe the entire weekend. We're going into Saturday, Saturday. I

(03:40):
need a break because you guys, you guys just killed
me with this loss tonight.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
At least it was show hey Otani that did it.
And it wasn't like James Oltman. No, you know what
I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Like that, that's true, that's true.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Like it was showy. It was so you got to
see Otani beat clutch, which is exactly what he is.
And it wasn't against a player who just had a moment.
It's Tony has all the moments.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah, all the moment. It's like when someone says to me, hey,
how do you feel? Are you? You know what? The
Mets playing well this year, right in first place. Another
win tonight and won Soto's heating up all the one
ton of total eating up everybody and they said, oh,
you know, have you you know able to put put
last year to bet? How do you feel about last year?
And I always come back to the same thing. I
go last year. Not every team comes off of a

(04:25):
season feeling like they won. Right, The Dodgers won, they
won the World Series. Yankees season looks like a failure. Right,
they threw up on themselves in the ninth in the
fifth inning of Game fly Right, a failure for the Mets,
who came out of nowhere, had an incredible run the
end of the season, like that was that was a win?

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Right?

Speaker 1 (04:41):
But I always go back to I'm not in the
bleeping World Series last year because of Tommy bleeping' Edmund. Okay,
not because of our TAWI, true, not because because of
Tommy bleeping' Edmund, who had like twelve hits and twelve
RBI and twelve runs scored in the NLCS. Tommy bleep
and Edmund. He from that series. He got a huge contract.
I'm not in the World Series because a Tommy bleep

(05:03):
and Edmund. Right, I still think about that. Yeah, I
guess you're right. At least he otany what are you
gonna do?

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (05:09):
That makes it a little bit better.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
That in the fact that you guys sucked too. Yeah,
a lot of I'll see you in the NLCS again,
and this time we'll have one Soto. Good luck. I
am shaking in my boot again, see you again. Meanwhile,
speaking of seeing someone again, oh boy, the Nuggets and Thunder.
The Thunder clearly don't want to see overtime again. The

(05:31):
game just in and we got Mark Medina, NBA insider
coming up in a few minutes to join us. The
Nuggets take a two games to one lead over the Thunder.
They win it one thirteen to one oh four. The
Oklahoma City Thunder had a grand total of two points
in overtime. They had Chettholmgrins dunk with two minutes left
to go that made it a five point game, and

(05:53):
that is it. No points from Sga in overtime. The
Nuggets got out to a lead and they just boat
raced their way through. They came to get to get
two games to one lead over the Thunder. A game
in which Nikola Jokic goes oh for three point range
over oh for three point range, and and and a
and a and a bigger deal is that. I'm I'm

(06:15):
looking and I, you know, watching trying to watch it
and cover this the same time. I don't know that
Sga even had a shot in overtime. I don't even
know that he took a shot in overtime.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Chet Holmgren did, Isaiah Hardenstein did?

Speaker 4 (06:30):
You might be right, I don't know. I don't think
he did. And maybe he went and lost it.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Is that why I feel like maybe he drove in
and lost it to Jamal Murray.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
I look watching, I mean look, clearly, the Nuggets defense
down the stretch and in overtime was phenomenal.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
They kicked it up on us, all right, five minutes,
let's go yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Because because that's you know, that's the thing about the playoffs
is people forget about oh defense in the fourth quarter.
When you get to that situational defense, it looks like
because you haven't seen that all game, when teams can
take that step up and look, and that's the Nicks
have been doing to the cell takes the first couple
of games. Hey, we're not the great defensive team the
Knicks that that we were the last couple of years
now are a much different team. But we still can
do it when we have to, and that change, even

(07:10):
when you're going from no defense to like just middling defense,
looks like, oh my goodness, we're we're there overwhelmed. They
got like eight guys on the court. They're overwhelming us.
And that's kind of what it looks like when you
can kick that up at the end and play more
physical and be able to dictate the play. And that's
exactly what the Nuggets did. SGA misses at the end
of regulation, and I mean, I don't think he took
a shot in overtime. That's how good the Nuggets defense was,

(07:33):
and that's how out of whack the Oklahoma City Thunder were.
And now here the Nuggets are at home, one game away,
one home game away from potentially basically clinching a spot
in the Western Conference Finals.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
I'm skimming really quickly here, just through. And I think
you're right. I don't think SGA took a shot.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
I don't think he took a shot. He checked in
for the US.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yeah, I don't know that overtime.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
Yeah no, And you can't have that.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
But is it was it the suffocating defense that the
Nuggets came out with, because they they definitely came out
with a different gear for that overtime. But that has
to do with the experience that has to do what
they've been here before. And okay, see goes back to
Game one. Okayc should have never let the Nuggets win
Game one. Never, they're gonna once the series is over,

(08:19):
if the Denver.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
Nuggets come out of this.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
OKAC is gonna think back to Game one.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Oh, the game they gave away. It was the first one.
It was a ten point game all the way.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Through, with all the way day and a half rest
for the Nuggets, who also had a seven game series
against the Clippers, like thunder are gonna look back at
that Game one because that is what set the tone
for this.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
That's when the Nuggets realized.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Oh we can beat this team.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Huh yeah. I mean like that was a game that
that was a game where the Nuggets just were hanging around,
were hanging around. Okay, this is not this is not
this is not gonna work. It's nice they keep it
close here, but they're gonna fall apart at the end.
And it was. It was a thunderfall part. And look,
Chet Holmgren's gonna be seeing those two missed free throws.
Is that that cost him? Did that was and the

(09:04):
thing is that guys seventy five percent from the line,
right at least make one take things directly Like he's
seventy five percent from the line, he misses two.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
But how you know, thinking of we talked about how okay, see,
in the regular season just kind of cruised through it.
Did they have any close games? Honestly, Like, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
They won every game by at least fifteen points.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
It seem that way, it's seen. And if they lost,
they lost early and didn't battle it at the end.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
It Yeah, like they they have not been in this
situation against a Nicola Jokic, who's gonna take Hey, we're
I was talking smack about James Harden taking only eight shots.
I would have rather have been like this, what did
he take twenty eight shots and only made a couple.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
But that's how you should go. You are the leader
and the coach.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
You gotta do it. Yeah. Now I'm gonna ask you
a question, Montie. I'm gonna put you on the spot here.
I'm gonna put you on the spot here. But I
want a truthful answer.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
If you don't know the answer, I understand, Okay, Okay,
because because I want to go back to this because
I still have a tough time with this. So is
the Nugget season an over because they fired Michael Malone.
I'm I'm sorry, Mike Malone. Is it because I was
told that it was done, that you don't fire your
head coach even with three games left in the regular seat,

(10:13):
you don't do it? I was, I mean, and I
was really alone on that island of when you have
to fire a coach, you have to fire the guy.
That night, I said, this is probably a good this
is a good move for Denver because obviously there's a
real They didn't just wake up one morning and say,
let's fire the coach. No, you knew they were gonna
play better, they were gonna play more freer, they were
gonna be happier or come to work. David Adelman is

(10:34):
not reinventing the wheel by saying, okay, completely new offensive system.
I'm moving the lockers around because now I'm Brian Schottenheimer.
You're gonna be sitting next to here. No, we're gonna
come in and do the same thing, but it's going
to be a different atmosphere. And it's not that Michael
Malone suddenly was a bad coach, but it's suddenly it
was a relationship that was untenable. And now what have
you seen the Nuggets playing freer. Yeah, it's a tough

(10:56):
matchup with the with the Clippers in the first round,
but they win game seven. Big, they are one home
game away from moving on to the end to the
Western Conference Finals. Pretty sure that now it's not the
end of the season. I mean maybe maybe, I don't
know if he's not the end of the season that
they fired Michael Malone.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
No, I think that was the beginning of their season
that I liked that their season when they fired him,
and you right, it was like it just they needed
a change because the conversation or the rumors were right
that they felt that Russell Westbrook was getting preferential treatment
from alone when they didn't think it was valid because
he had n't been on the on the I was

(11:34):
gonna say World Series team, because he wasn't on the run.
He wasn't on the championship team, so that they had
a problem with him playing in those important minutes in
the fourth quarter. I mean, Russell Westbrook is still playing
a chunk of the game and is still out there
when it matters. So clearly there was more to maybe
the vibe that was going on, and it wasn't just.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
About Russell Westbrook.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
But absolutely their season started when they fired the coach.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
I like that the season began, Oh the season end.
The season started that day. Oh yeah, we had three days.
It was a wonderful plays.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Early in the season. They're rejuvenated. They're rejuvenated, and they
really did look different coming out in overtime. It was like,
what did you drink?

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Michael see I look at you know, and also as
you know, hey, the reason why playing in Denver has
been a home court home feel advantaged for a long time.
You get a little bit tired end of fourth quarter,
but I you know, sometimes the energy of having the
get chance to win the game. SGA misses the shot,
it takes its toll and you come out, you come
out slow in overtime. And yes, I know that the
Nuggets their defense that was really good, but wow, man,

(12:39):
SGA doesn't get a shot. You don't try to run
a play somewhere For me, granted we're kind of half
watching while we're doing the show, but you can't cut
it up. I mean, your best player, the MVP of
the league doesn't get a shot in overtime, the MVP
of the league. I'm pretty sure if the Knicks are
gonna lose in overtime, Jalen Brunson's taking a shot. Right,
I'm pretty sure if the Lakers are gonna lose, Lebron

(13:01):
James is taking a shot. Nicola Jokic is taking a shot.
A s GA doesn't take a shot.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
We son in Kola Yoki attempt a three after he
was zero for ten to end the game.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Doesn't matter. Give me.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
And shake guil Just Alexander. Another thing, we're talking about
the difference between the regular season and the postseason, right,
It's like, shake guil Just Alexander. Throughout the regular season
took a lot of free throws, and that took that
change when it came to the playoffs. Now, they swept well, right,
they swept the Grizzlies, right because he didn't even win one.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
In fact, that series ended after three games.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
After three game they didn't even play the fourth one, right.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Do we really need no, We're good, Okay, wrap it up.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
Because in the game three they were up at three.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Three they no. Game three they won by like seventy five.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
They weren't the Grizzlies up in one of the games,
like three by thirty and then the okay see came back.
They never won, but shake guil just Alexander has not
been to the free throw lying the way. Maybe he
thought he was going to be because the whistle is
different in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
Yeah, and how did you guys think he left the
court after the loss without taking a shot? Oh? Sorry,
besides the obvious left okay a in tears, b high
Good dame, dude, that was awesome. No, how did you

(14:15):
how did you leave the leave the court? He was
smiling and laughing as he walked off. Really no, I
don't like that.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Really, where is your toughness?

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (14:25):
Should be angry, you should be upset.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
I learned that from Lebron. Lebron taught me how to
do that. Yeah, laughing, I'm laughing.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
I know what to do so mad? That would be fuming.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (14:38):
You having fun? You having fun today? You have follow
that's great, that's great. You're joining out, good everything. Okay,
you have a good day. No, that's great, that's great.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
Fun guys.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
See you next one, Nuggets win it in overtime. They're
up two to one. The Calves cut the lead to
two to one. It's been a great night of entertainment.
That's just helping us waste time till we get to
Game three between the Knicks and the Celtics. We got
Mark Medina, NBA Insider. Next. What we saw tonight, what
We're gonna see tomorrow, Keep it right here, Big Power Hour,
and the week continues. Jason Smith, Monty Belango's in for

you're down. Oh two.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
I'm surprising, Din to Nixon here, I'm surprised.

Game three between the Knicks and the Celtics. Joining us

NBA Insider. You can follo him on Twitter at Mark

(15:56):
g Underscore Medina. That's at Mark g Underscore Medina. Mark.
What's happening, man? How are you?

Speaker 5 (16:02):
Bud Well? I'm doing well, but I'm sure you're doing
a lot better. I mean, the contrast between your elation
for your Nicks and montse sadness for the Clippers gonna
be more striking.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
No, but the thing is now Monsey and Frostburg have
both jumped on the Knicks bandwagon because the excitement, well
for for me, for the excitement for Frostburg, because the
Celtics are down oh too. In fact, Frostburg's son made
a drawing for me of the final play of the
game two nights ago, the big steal by Bridges when
he took it from Tatum. I'm keeping that and hanging
it in my house and saving it forever. It's an

(16:36):
awesome picture.

Speaker 5 (16:38):
Move over, Willis reed. It's all about this year. I mean,
have you booked your flight to New York and Denver?
I mean that's what the finals are gonna be, right, Yeah, Well.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
The tickets are a lot of money. Mark, I don't know.
I might have to wait from come down a little.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
Bit, they're gonna, They're gonna go.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Ah, I won't get to the Nicks in a couple
of seconds. Let's react to what we've seen tonight and
clearly what we just saw in overtime. The Nuggets win
Game three, and yes, the Nuggets played terrific down the stretch.
Their defense was fantastic. But Mark Shake Gildas Alexander no
shots in overtime. Yeah, I mean, wow, what happened to
the thunder?

Speaker 5 (17:15):
They did not look like the team that dominated the
regular season. He mentioned that Shake gotus. Alexander didn't have
any shots in overtime. He had a terrible shot in
the final play, which they didn't even call time out for.
I think the other thing is, you know, both Shay
and Nikolijokicic did not play well from a statistical standpoint,
but one Nikoliokicic still had an impact on the game.

(17:37):
He had a triple double even though he missed all
ten of his three tens. Temson shot eight of twenty five.
And the other thing is his supporting cast showed up.
You look at Jamal Murray, Michael Wore Junior, Aaron Gordon,
Russell Westbrook, all made big plays, All made big shots
with the Thunder. They had Jalen Williams playing out of
his mind, but not everyone else showed up. And that

(17:59):
is a complete and what we saw in the regular season.
Thunder has a lot of depth. The Nuggets they're, you know,
kind of a mess now a little bit different because
they've been playing a lot better since David Adamans than coach.
They're relying on their vets, not their young players. But Guys,
I didn't see this coming away. Game three would be
because both teams played very much opposite of how they

(18:21):
were in the regular season.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Mark remember on Sunday when Carrie Rhad said that he
saw Denver winning Game one and we both were like,
are you on crack Weth, Like, what is.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
Wrong with you? He was onto something.

Speaker 3 (18:35):
But do you think this has more to do with
the regular.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
Season maybe not being as.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
Not giving us the right picture of these teams because
it's only the regular season, or do we give credit
to the experience that the Denver Nuggets have had. They've
been there, they've done it.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
It's a really good question, Manta, because both the answers
are correct, But in this case it's complicated. I mean,
usually the regular season It's different in the playoffs because
of intensity seven games the prep, but you can see
trends and the thunder they're blowing teams out. They had
so much depth with the Nuggets. You never were going

(19:17):
to discount them out because you have Nikola Jokicic. You know,
he's in the running for another MVP award if shay
Gil Alexander doesn't win it. But they were only the
hot mess with health. Their role players were inconsistent, and
so that foreshadowed, you know what this is probably going
to how it's going to be in the playoffs. But
their identity completely shifted in the playoffs. They have a

(19:39):
different head coach. You know, whether that was the right
or wrong move. Short term, they really want to go
all out for David Adelman because they respect him as
a former assistant. The value having a voice short term
has played out. But also the Nuggets have relied on
the veteran players, which wasn't the case during the regular season,

(20:00):
and that was one of the sources of frustration that
their former head coach, Michael Malone had with Calvin both,
the former general manager. The fact that Michael Malone was
playing Russell Westbrooks hurre in the regular season was a
source of contention, but what we see here is their
guys are healthy and playing the VETSA is a pretty
good formula in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
All right, Mark, let's go to the game from earlier tonight,
and it's tough to say the momentum has changed this much.
But the Pacers go in, they win the first two
in Cleveland. Cleveland's in a lot of trouble, but boy,
tonight they get their guys back, they're healthy again, and
the Pacers never threatened. I know, it feels like, well,
the Pacers are up to one with another home game,

(20:41):
but boy, it kind of feels like even though they're
down to one that the Cavs kind of took control
of the series with a win tonight.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
Well, the Calvs had to win this game. I mean literally,
no team has ever overcome a three playoff serious deficits,
so they had to win that number one, number two.
You know, it was comforting that Cleveland one, but they
were laboring through a lot of different injuries, specifically with
Daris Garland with his toe and DeAndre Hunter was banged up,
and then Tyres Haliburton just completely no showed four points

(21:10):
to of eight shooting. That was not what we saw.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
He has too many games like that Mark. He has
too many games and it's not every other game, but
Halliburton has too many games where he just doesn't get
in the game. He just does. He's not the offense
he needs me, the number one offensive threaten. He just
kind of sits back in his two passes.

Speaker 5 (21:27):
Yeah, and it's very ironic because we saw these clutch
playoff performances in the first two games. On the heels
of oh the athletic player is anonymous pol saying he's overrated.
And you know, I talked with this trainer, Drew Handlin
earlier this week. He strongly shot down that pole because
one not everyone participated, but too he was saying he's
the best passer in the NBA. He want one of

(21:50):
the best point guards in the NBA, and he impacts winning.
But one thing that I thought was interesting is a
lot of times he has to motivate him to get
him aggressive. Not all the time does Tyrese Haliburton play aggressively.
It was so much that last season when he had
that heroic Game seven performance against the Knicks, partly because

(22:10):
that fan was heckoing him. His feeding off of that,
he was actually texting with his trainer, Drew Handlin, saying, Hey,
before the game, anything as you can text me that
will get me motivated. And his response to that is
if I need to do that too for a Game
seven at Madison Square Garden. So yeah, I think the

(22:32):
point of the story is probably a stretch to say
he's overrated because of all his strong skills, but you
have to show up every single night the night. The
mark of an NBA star is not only that you're consistent,
but when you're posting double digit performances, double doubles, the
casual fan doesn't bat an eye because that's expected. You

(22:54):
can't lay eggs, especially in the playoffs. So I expect
Tyres to be better and four, but he should have
been better in game three. And what it means moving forward,
this is a series that can go either way because
Cleveland avoided oh three deficit. And to your earlier point,
Jason about the playoffs, very rarely, barring a significant injury

(23:16):
to a star player, is there actually momentum game to game.
So that's what's going to make it excited.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
In the inside of Mark Medina, whether it's here in
Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Monci Bologos. All right, from
the JV games to the varsity game tomorrow. Mark, First
of all, you're talking about the Warriors. Yeah, First of all,
how are the Nixon Celtics not on tomorrow night? How
are they not on primetime Saturday? What the hell is
this game doing to three thirty in the afternoon.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
I'll tell you who to blame for that. His name
is Steph Curry and the Warriors. Ironically, Steph Curry is
not even playing. But I think the NBA, you know,
they didn't know he was going to get hurt, so
that's why they play. They scheduled the accordion list lexable scheduling.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Oh hey, we know we're gonna but since Steph is
not playing, we're gonna put you guys on NBA TV
and you're gonna play at nine in the morning, Like
you could have done that.

Speaker 5 (24:06):
Hey, you know what I did hear that the NBA
was considering. You know, let's go back to the eighties
and let's see some tape delay to the next the seventies.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
Right now when it comes to the game tomorrow, Okay, here,
the Madison Square Garden is going to be insane unlike
it's been in twenty years. If the roof is still
on the beginning of the game, I'll be disappointed if
I said to you the Celtics need Blank to win
Game three and keep in a series.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
What are you gonna tell me, Jason Tatum's got to
show up?

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Rosberg said Larry Bird, Well.

Speaker 5 (24:41):
Well we used to get Rick Potato on your show
and say, Larry Bird is not walking through that door.
But Jason Tatum, he is walking through that door. But
what version of Jason Tatum are you going to get?

Speaker 2 (24:52):
He?

Speaker 5 (24:53):
You know what seven to twenty three, game one, five
and nineteen game two. I think the thing when you're
looking at his playoff run last year and he didn't
win finals MVP not a big deal because he was
still playing a high level. His value is not just
in scoring, but he's got to shoot the ball efficiently,
and he wasn't aggressive enough. And yeah, we can talk

(25:13):
about oh yeah, the Celtic squader twenty point leads. The
nick shot a bunch of threes that went in, and
to your guys credit, they're very resilient. Jalen Brunson. The
reason why I did this whole magazine story about his
greatness before the season started. But Jathon Tatum's got to
shoot the ball better. And it's comforting that he's taken
to blame instead of blaming everyone else. But you know,

(25:36):
in the playoffs, actions speak louder than words, and he
has not been effective at all these first two games.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
Mark, let's give you that same question.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
The Warriors win if they blank against the Timberwolves.

Speaker 5 (25:49):
Yeah, good question. I think if they if they channel that,
we believe Warriors in two and seven, meaning that the
summer greater than in their parts. You can't ever replace
Steph Curry because he's Steph Curry greatest shoot of roll time.
But what they can do is have playoffs, Jimmy Butler.
They can have guys like Buddy Healed make some shots

(26:12):
as he's done earlier in the playoffs, and someone like
Draymond Green. How about played defense, But don't get text
for him. He's been playing defense at a really good level. Unfortunately,
he's also been getting into it with the referees and
making some dumb fouls, and these things kind of matter
in the playoffs for availability and also to avoid suspensions

(26:34):
in future games. So that's the right formula. But the
Wolves they're a good team and it's going to be
a challenge.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Well see see Mark. I think it's I look at
it this way. Every game Steph Curry doesn't play, the
Timberwolves should win, but it should be like if we
may not see him, if he's really going to be
out until game six, potentially, like he's not coming back,
because I can't see them winning another game without him.

Speaker 5 (26:56):
But here's the thing. I mean, two years ago, Jimmy
Butler dragged an eight seeded Miami Heat team to the
NBA Finals. I mean, he and the Warriors do have
enough to beat Minnesota. That's not to say they're not
a good team. They are a serious team that you
have to reckon with. But it's not like the Warriors
are playing the Knicks for example right now, much different story.

(27:17):
They're playing the Wolves. So I think they still have
a chance. The fact that they're at home is going
to help. I think the fact that they had such
a terrible game too, and it gave Steve Kerr an
early opportunity to rest Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green more
than he would have otherwise. That can very much carry

(27:37):
over because of the fact that they got to recharge
a little bit.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
He's on Twitter at Mark g Underscore Medina. That said,
Mark G Underscore Madina NBA Insider working on his Knicks
Nuggets NBA Final preview as we.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
Speak, no doubt. I'm also working on my future Jalen
Brunson Finals MVP column and one of goods for his legacy.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
Good good. Hey, I want to tell you this because man,
I want to give you a piece of advice. You're
a longtime friend of the show. Don't guarantee you walk
to work if the Celtics win a game.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
Okay, hey, you know what though. I mean, because you
all know where I am. I'm local. I could say,
oh yeah, the Fox Sports radio station tape.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
That is true. You literally could walk here in five minutes.
Like it's your I'm gonna walk to work in the Okay,
I'll walk into work. I'm walking for it. I have
Mark on Twitter at Mark g Underscore with DTA Markus
always buddy, appreciate it, man, we'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 5 (28:33):
I appreciate it. To enjoy the run.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
All right, Well, I feel like I'm high. It's the nix.
I feel really I'm just hot, Like I want to
just yell every few minutes and just just I mean,
just primal, just go this is it's so it's different
than last year where the second round against the Pacers
and guys starting to get hurt, and I thought, you
know what, this is not our year where I mean,

(28:56):
Devincenzo is hotter than anybody can expect him to be.
We're missing guys. If we get to the Eastern Conference finals,
that's a big win, right, but we'll probably go out
to the Celtics. I get it. But now the door's open.
Cleveland's in trouble, all right, it could be Indiana, the
West is in trouble. We already got the Celtics down
to it. Like this is it? Man, Like I want
to flip this table over. Yeah again, Bill's mafia.

Speaker 5 (29:20):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
Don't get me started, because I'm like, I want you
to be high.

Speaker 4 (29:23):
I want to be high with you.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
I was high on the Clippers and then quickly it
went away. But that's how I felt Clippers, really fast,
the real fast.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
See not good stuff. Man already coming down from it. Man,
you got to you gotta hold it in with the Clippers.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
You have told it with the Clippers, because it goes
away real fast.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
That's so perfect getting anything, man, nothing of it. Like
you said, it's like open. It is wide open for
anyone to take.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
And I think the Knicks have a legit chance, which
is awesome.

Speaker 4 (29:55):
So I'm gonna I'm gonna be high with you on
your high.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
I like that.

Speaker 4 (29:59):
I'm on your high.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
Plenty of room on the high bend.

Speaker 4 (30:03):
Yeah, go New York, Go New York, Gospert.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Can you see my watch? You? Can you see my phone?
Can you see my screen saver? It's Jackson's drawing of
the final play two nights ago from here. It's the
final play. It's the final play he drew for me
of Bridges stealing the ball away from Jason Tatum. I
made that my screen saver. I'll have to explain to
Zoe why she's no longer on my screen saver. But
I gotta keep this up here for a couple of days.

Speaker 5 (30:24):
Right here.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
You should, she should, She'll come back.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Let's find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
Monty has more on the biggest craziest result of the night,
another home run from Juan Soto and the Mets win. Mancy,
what's trending so much.

Speaker 3 (30:39):
Happened tonight, Jason, I don't even know how we got
through it. And so many close games going down to
the wire, like the Nuggets and the Thunder, but in
overtime it was all Denver. They outscored OKSEE eleven to two.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
The Thunder.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
It was like, you guys, this is it.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
Five minutes. You can't give me anything else.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
The Nuggets, all of them came ready in that five
period of over five minute period of overtime.

Speaker 4 (31:03):
Win thirteen to one oh four was the final score.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
Jamal Murray the leading score of the game twenty seven
points and eight assists for Denver, but Jalen Williams was
the one who carried OKC thirty two points in the loss.
That series now well, Denver leads it two to one.
On the other side of things, Cavaliers and Pacers, Cleveland
had to win Game three. They did win it in
Indiana one twenty six to one oh four. Donovan Mitchell
forty three points and nine rebounds.

Speaker 4 (31:27):
He was amazing in this game.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Indiana, though, still leads the series two to one. We
also had an exciting game on the ice between the
Maple Leaves and the Panthers. Brad Marshan won it for
the Panthers in overtime. Five to four was the final score.
Toronto leads that series two to one, though, and it
was all Jets against.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
The Stars, All Jets, all Jets, Jets.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
All day, all day. Maybe four zero was the final safety.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
The Jets defense looked good. Quinny Williams was fantastic.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
Yeah, series is tied now at one a piece.

Speaker 4 (31:57):
In baseball, lots of scoring all over the Lace. The
Yankees crushed the A's ten to two.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
Jason de ming Is three homers, including a grand slam.
The Orioles snapped their four game losing streak.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
They beat the Angels four to one.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
The poor Rockies, they scored nine runs and they still lose.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
Yeah, to the Padres thirteen to nine.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
That's more runs tonight than they scored all season, I think.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
So that's sayings like, you scored nine against the Padres
and you still lose. The Blue Jays defeated the Mariners
six to three. Bunch of home runs from your Mets,
including one from Juan Soto, but it started with Francisco Lindor.
So they beat the Cup seven to two. The Guardians
shut out the Phillies six to zero. The Royals held on.
They're on a winning streak. They beat the Red Sox
two to one in twelve innings and the Doyers. The

(32:39):
Doyers were down lots of runs in the ninth inning,
but they scored six a three run homer from Shohe Otani.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
That's six runs of the ninth inning.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
These are games that end team seasons. The Diamondbacks may
four to fit tomorrow. We're not showing up, not after
this man six runs in the ninth without recording and out.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
Out recording and out the show.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
Heyotan so mentally d like, it's such a mental killing.

Speaker 3 (33:05):
Absolutely, And then they also Diamondbacks had a Grand Slam
against Anthony Bond that like, literally the win was there
for you guys, you were there, but the Dodgers won
it fourteen to eleven.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
The Jets killed Carl and the Dodgers may have killed
the Diamondbacks. You know, it's funny. I just they just
showed the replay of Otani's home run in the bat
and I've never seen Otani batflip like that.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
You also just never seen the way he handled it.
He usually acts like it.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
I've done this before.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
I'm good but the bat flip was true. I mean
that inning was so incredible, so good. They showed the
angle of the iso of Otani. You know, in the
box he bat flips and I couldn't see who was
standing next to Dave Roberts. But the ball, you know,
the ball is hit and everybody and Dave Roberts pushes
the guy whoever's next to him, and it looked like
shut up, can you believe that? Like Dave Roberts pushes

(33:50):
who was next to him? Like shut up? Can you
believe that? And again I couldn't tell because it was
too far away, But just watch him push. That's so
believe that amazing.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Doesn't get old.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
All that home run was missing. What's that was Otwi
running all the way to the outfield and jumping in
the pool. Then he comes back. Owt finishes rounds of.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
Bases, make sure he gots to touch the bases.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
Dripping wet, just dripping wet. After that, all right, so Mancia,
real quick quiz for you now here the Nuggets one tonight,
one thirteen, one oh four. Yes, they scored one hundred
and thirteen points. Yes, what number is greater? The number
of points the Nuggets scored tonight, or the number of
runs the Rockies have scored this season. Rockies have played
thirty eight games. I'm number is greater one thirteen tonight.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
And yeah, I'm gonna say Rockies have more than one
hundred and thirteen runs.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
We'll find out the end of that and give you
two big NBA Bold predictions coming up next right here
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
Fox Sports Radio. The Knicks are ready to go, Ready
to go Game three, Go New York, O, New York Go,
Jason Smith. Monty Belango is in for Mike Harmon. Two
big things, one big Bowl prediction coming your way in
minute the NBA this weekend. But I will tell you this, Moncy,
to be serious now, because it's been I've been all

(35:18):
full of emotion, and go New York On, New York Go,
and I still am and I still will be. But
the one thing, if you tell me what do I
worry about? For de Marks, there's always something to worry about,
because you know Nicks, what's the one thing I worry about?
Can they handle success? How do they respond handling success

(35:38):
because big market teams that aren't used to it, things
can change really quickly, especially the you know, the second
team in a market like the Mets or the Jets
or the Clippers. Sorry I know too soon, Or if
you're a team that hasn't had a lot of success
as a front runner in a big market, suddenly that
spotlight gets way brighter. And now the Knicks and now

(35:59):
the fans are insane, the media is insane. They become
the biggest story of the playoffs and this is the
only series that that captures everybody's attention, and it's okay,
can they handle success or do they come out flat?
Is it going to be overconfidence? Are they going to
lose their edge? Because I've seen it happen to a
lot of teams in that way. Honestly, that's my only concern.

(36:19):
They got to just avoid losing four out of the
next five. That's what they have to do. But if
they if they have trouble handling success, that because now
they're the favorites. Now they're supposed to win. Now they're
potentially the favorites to get out of the East and
get to the NBA Finals. How quickly things happen. Can
they handle success?

Speaker 3 (36:36):
Not only can they handle success? Can they keep a
leveled head? Can they keep zen when everything else around
them is going crazy?

Speaker 1 (36:46):
Could you go and fit the brick on? There a
lot of love, Yes, hello, yes, mons, But can they
keep she works with the Dodgers, she does up piction
host shows, thank.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
You so much.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
They've got to keep a leveled head going into this game.
Everything else is going to be going crazy around them,
from the media, from the fans, from the enemies.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
They have got to.

Speaker 3 (37:14):
Maintain themselves grounded, and they have to come out wanting
to step on their throats. They have to come out
wanting to step on their throats. They cannot back down.
They cannot think we've got it. They cannot think we've
figured it out. They cannot think it's our turn. They
can't have any of those thoughts.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
They have to sound like TIBs. It sounds good, pregame speed,
thank you, that's pretty good, thank.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
You, but true. That's how they have to come out that.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
You have to make them cry in this game, because
Boston they'll cry.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
They'll all cry, they will all perfect cry after they
and the Boston sports talk radio host will say the
next is still good. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Now the other
Big Bowl prediction. This is our last show before the
NBA Draft Lottery on Monday, when everybody brings rabbits, foots
and all kinds of stuff. Now I file this under

(38:08):
the category of I'm not saying, I'm just saying I
don't know.

Speaker 4 (38:12):
Anything, battle but tattle.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
Knowing that Cooper Flag is the prize of the NBA
Draft and he could be coming into the NBA much
the way Caitlin Clark came into the WNBA. Every few
years we get that transcendent player right when Zion Williamson
came in. Him in New Orleans. Has been a disaster
for the NBA. Can't stay healthy, can't get on the floor,
they can't get in the playoffs, can't take advantage of

(38:37):
a guy who was gonna be the next Shaquille O'Neal
of the NBA. NBA sees this, they know this. Again,
I'm not saying, but boy, would I be really surprised
if it's not the Bulls or the MAVs or the
Sixers that wins the draft lottery on Monday. One of
those three teams will win them. Now, maybe the Bulls

(38:58):
are the favorites now because I have a pope who's
gonna be able to come in and and and bless
the ping pong balls. I'm hoping the Mavericks win. So
Nico Harrison could take the stage and just middle finger
into everybody. Yeah, all the stuff you said about me?

Speaker 3 (39:10):
Yeah, and you know what they're staying about him, and
he's still gonna be hated.

Speaker 1 (39:14):
Oh, I don't know what number one pick Cooper Flyes.
It's not Luca, No, it's but it's Cooper and a
D And now we got Kyrie. No, it's great, We're great.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
They're gonna be like, yeah, Cooper, screw you, Nico. That's
how it's gonna go. That's how it's gonna go. Listen,
I'm throwing Philly out of that list.

Speaker 3 (39:30):
Wow, okay, no, and I'm gonna add san Antonio to
the list.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
Oh no, they would They can't win the draft lottery.

Speaker 4 (39:37):
Yes, they can't.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
They can't think the other teams would lead the leg.
This is not fair.

Speaker 4 (39:42):
Let me great, who's gonna leave the wizard everybody?

Speaker 1 (39:45):
It's okay, As I just said, this is how the
lottery is gonna go. These teams like they won with
David Robinson, one with Tim duncan get and one with Wenby.
They can't win.

Speaker 4 (39:54):
He's gonna throw Philly out the window.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
Chicago MAVs, San.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
Antonio Cogo's got the I really think it's going to
be Chicago.

Speaker 4 (40:02):
What a year for Chicago.

Speaker 1 (40:04):
I got the Pope, they got the Pope, and that's
all you name.

Speaker 4 (40:08):
It comes are doing too bad?

Speaker 1 (40:10):
Who they lose to tonight? I forget because yeah, that's right,
I forgot. That's it. Out about a Fresco at Monty Belago,
monc I Jason next to the Plank show, This is
