Speaker 1 (00:28):
Frostburg is actually off again. Yes, no, it is true.
He's off again.

He's out learning how to proper tackling technique for Sunday Lakers.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Wayarah Owens has some thoughts former guests of the show,
and Tarrel Lowans has some thoughts as to where.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
That all went wrong. Man, I'll tell cheers to you.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
How you doing over their foal?
Speaker 1 (01:14):
You're my best friend, Mike Harbett, Just so you know,
you're my best friend.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
I love when all of this stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
You know, hey, the thing that I laughed most about
was when all the guys that were once you know,
big time journalists and then became hot take nonsense artists
still trying to try it. I was like, no, no, no, no,
you give that up for a pile of cash a
long time ago. Just just don't even try it anymore.
That's long gone.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
So we have tons of NFL to get to, a
lot of football coming up this hour, and upset specials
and all kinds of picks, and one team's going to
start zero and two that you're not gonna believe. We've
got a lot of teams because Startle would do this.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
It's potentially chaos. I mean I was looking up at
some stats earlier. I'm trying to find the graphic as
we begin the hour here Jason of you know, teams
that got bludgeoned by double digits in week one trying
to do the comeback here.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
And it is not a pretty site.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
And when we look at where money is being bet,
I mean, we got a lot of heavy action to
one side in a lot of these games. So you know,
that's that's really the chaos theory that we have rolling
through as we get into week two. Normally we're not
in the desperation mode or anything, but already it's kind
of like I think for some of these squads, it's
(02:40):
it could be a very uncomfortable local sports talk radio.
And let's face it, for us, the national folks that
are going to climb on board. Since twenty fourteen teams
to lose by double digits in week one are thirty eight,
twenty two and two against the spread in week two,
so they'll at least keep it close at a sixty
three percent lib. And we've got eight teams that fit
(03:04):
that bill. Let's let's see if any of them can
come through and maybe win.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Out right.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I know one of them you picked, actually two of
them you picked to win games.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Outright. You didn't want the points, you didn't need the points.
How about that.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
I don't want those points, I don't need those points.
I'm gonna take those points and I'm gonna save them
for when I need them and apply them to a
completely different game. That's what I'm gonna do.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
How many points have you saved through the first eight
weeks of the season. I'm laying I'm getting ninety seven.
It's my own personal teaser that I worked out with
the books.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
You understand the philosophy of rollover minutes, yes, well, then
you'll understand my philosophy of moving points when you don't need.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Them, my rollover betting technique. One night, I'm rolling over
points I don't need. I tell Jet it's the Jets
against the Bills. That's three and a half points I
put in my pocket. I can apply to any other
game I want. But the epicenter of college football once
(04:06):
again will be Colorado in Boulder tomorrow, the big Colorado
Colorado State battle that got a lot of extra juice
a day ago when Jay Norvel, head coach at Colorado State,
unhappy with how Deon Sanders conducts himself, wearing sunglasses, wearing hats,
all the things decided. You know what, I'm gonna do
(04:27):
an interview and I'm gonna say what I really think
about wearing sunglasses and hats. When I do interviews and
talk to people, and when i'm indoors take a listen.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
I don't care if they hear it in Boulder.
Speaker 6 (04:37):
I told them I took my hat off and I
took my glasses off, and I said, when I talked
to grown ups, I take my hat and my glasses off.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
That's what my mother talked.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
So you know they're not.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Gonna like us. No matter what we say or do,
doesn't matter.
Speaker 6 (04:51):
Okay, so let's go up there and play.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
So that was Norvel yesterday and it became a whole thing.
Deon Sanders talked about it with his team and today
when he did the whole big interviews, spend time on ESPN,
look Gate College Game Day, is there tomorrow for the game,
and he gave away sunglasses to everybody at ESPN. He
gave sunglasses to everybody on his team, and then he
(05:17):
went on TV and said, yeah, you know, tomorrow is
just gonna be a regular game. And then things got personal.
Speaker 7 (05:25):
I don't realize not only were gonna kick their butts
because it's it's it's personal, but it's gonna be business.
But it's also plitsure business blinders do a live shape
with blenders is one of the personal lives.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
So they don't realize they just helped me with business.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
But it's gonna be you want to know new school.
Everything you need to know about Deon Sanders is in
that right there. We're gonna kick their butts tomorrow. What
college head coach says that? Nobody? Nobody says something We're
gonna kick their butts tomorrow. Nobody says that. Nobody they
made it personal. Nobody says that. Who else gets a
(06:01):
plug in for a product in the middle of well,
nobody else? Dion does. Right, to help me with business?
Help me with business.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Are they gonna have sudden kiosks outside of the sections
if you want to buy one on the way into
the stadium?
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Dude? If they're smart, they give away sunglasses to everybody
going to the game tomorrow, and everybody wears sunglasses to
the game for the rest of the season. Every home
game they have everybody's wearing sunglasses. Turn it into a
thing where everybody rallies behind it. That's yeah. They'll look like.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Those people at at the Charger game last week.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, I got a bunch of they all look like
on their all ai looking like it wearing the sunglasses.
And that's it. But look, honestly, look, that's part of
the genius of Dion, right, and and we We've talked
about the one. The downside. The only downside I see
to what Dion is doing right now is that every
(06:54):
game can't be at an eleven on a scale of
one to ten. Right, you have to have some business trips.
We talked about this last night. Here's Dean using the
word business. Maybe somebody listens to this show. I don't know,
but some weeks just have to be business trips. And
I know what. It's your in state rival and I
know that. Look, is he really bought into the fact
that we're playing Colorado State? Yet?
Speaker 3 (07:14):
No?
Speaker 1 (07:14):
I don't think you bleed black and gold quite yet, right,
I mean, you're you're there because they hired you, so
I but I get that it's a rivalry. But at
the same time, your twenty four point favorites, you should
roll over them in this game. Some weeks have to
be business trips where we go and we play and
we move on to the next game because your team
is going to run out of gas, and losses pile
up and fingers get pointed. Things don't go Nobody treats
(07:36):
every week like the super Bowl. That's the one thing, right,
But let's let's focus on some stuff that he's done,
because honestly, he doesn't get the credit forced. But what
he's done kind's been a genius so far. It's been
an absolute genius because he is to forget about if
you like Deon Sanders or not, forget about if you
like the way he coached or not. And as you've seen,
he's polarizing every game he's played so far. He's at
(07:56):
coaches say something bad about his team, right, or some
question about what he's doing. Right. That's what's happened. So
I get that people don't like him. He's a new
school head coach. He's the newest of the new school
head coach. He's a unicorn. He's everything. He has done
what nobody should be able to do, and that is
go into a new new philosophy, new team where you
(08:17):
have a lower one A type experience. Right, You're coming
from Jackson State, which is a smaller school, it's not
a power five school. You succeed there and you jump
to a power five school that was one and eleven
the year before. That's been awful for the last few years.
Has a pretty rich tradition Colorado going back to the
early nineteen nineties and Bill McCartney and Eric Benemy and
(08:39):
Darien Hagen and those teams. But you still, this is
a team that's not been good the last few years,
and you bring in eighty seven new players. Eighty seven
and what do you do. You start undefeated, You're in
the top twenty five, and you are all college football
is talking about. That is something that should be impossible
to do. But yet he's done it, and he's done
it in a way that is that some people can
(09:01):
see what he's doing and see the genius. Some people
can see, hey, there's problems, I don't like him. Some
people can see both of them. But you can't argue
with what he's done because he has produced. The players
love him, they love playing. He's got dudes, He's got
guys going to the NFL. Guys are gonna be winning
awards at the end of the season or finalists for
big awards at the end of the season. He's turned
this program into a winning program. He's got the number
(09:24):
one recruit in the country already saying, hey, I want
to call you about coming there after your son Lee's
for the National Football League. All of these things he
has done in just a couple of weeks I mean
a couple of weeks game time, but a few months
since he got the job. That should be impossible. The
guy's a genius. Nick Saban didn't do this going to Alabama.
Nobody does this, but he's able to do it. He
(09:44):
is the absolute newest of new school guys. That is
take taking college football, turning it on his ear and saying,
you know, there's more than one way to do things.
And you may not like it. You may not like
what I do. You may not respect me because I'm
not a great coordinator. I'm not a guy that's got
a but you know what, I'm a head coach. I
know how to hire, I know how to motivate, I
know what to say, I know how to move a program.
(10:07):
I am a CEO and that's what he is, and
that's you need to be in college football. So many
guys are great coaches, they're not great CEOs. And now
when the NIO has become such a big deal and
you see coaches that are quitting and leaving because Nil
is not well, I don't want to deal with Nil anymore.
I don't get it. You need a CEO, and Deon
Sanders is a CEO of that program. He is at
(10:28):
his fingerprints everywhere on it, which you kind of have
to be the guy. Is that what he's done so
far has been at genius levels in college football.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Well, and that's the big thing to take away from
all of this, Jason, is you know, we're all trying
to extrapolate what does it all look like next steps?
I mean, I sent you something that people are photo
shopping him into a bear's hat and pull over and
all throughout. You know, we had the cowboy discussion should
he take over if Mike McCarthy can't.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
Get it done?
Speaker 3 (10:58):
You know this two days after they beat the snot
out of the Giants on Sunday night. Foot Paul's like, no,
let's replace him. Can we see how this run ends first?
But you know, all of those things of trying to
extrapolate what happens down the line, Like at this point
we're still in building phases. But he uses that word
(11:20):
business pretty regularly as to how to approach practices, how
to approach the different elements of the game in terms
of consistency and being able to be dedicated right talking
through and some of the supruter or film, you know,
little vignettes of here do the call response thing like
(11:44):
you're in a Catholic mass and all. It's all finding
good building to it. But there's a discipline that's involved
with what he does. The last couple of games, look
at when they get called for a penalty.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Look at his reaction.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
That's a guy that wants to go out there make
them run sprints because of those mistakes. It's all about
attention to detail top to bottom and in constructing his
staff and constructing everything. It's one thing you have to appreciate.
Was it brash?
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (12:14):
I said it on the night that we had that
first video of Hey, y'all should get into the portal.
You ain't gonna be here, and that's me and whatever.
It's like, I'd rather you have someone be straight with
me other than string you along to the final day
before you can transfer and just say, oh yeah, you
you you. It's kind of like Homer your cut, your cut,
your cut, oh yeah, and you and you and you
(12:34):
you know that kind of thing. Instead, he was brash
and open with him and just said, look, we're making
real change here and you guys are not part of it. Sorry,
next next up, right, So from that day forward, you
kind of set the tone and now you move forward
and will it work long term? I don't know, but
(12:55):
I'm sure as hell intrigued to find out whether it works.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
This week.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
All right, you got an opponent that's a twenty four
point underdog. You know something my brother and I were
talking about, you know, his history, you know when we
talk about you know, the Colorado State coach playing under
Hayden Fry, being at Iowa, all of that stuff, and
how motivating and whatever the speeches were back in the day. Okay,
maybe they come up and shock the world. The likelihood
(13:21):
is they get blown out. Well, now you got two
huge tests thereafter. How do they respond for those games?
You already have oregons giving you the bulletin board material, right.
Lanning had his quote at the news of Colorado's departure
from the PA PAC twelve. It's like, yeah, well whatever,
what did they win?
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Anyway?
Speaker 3 (13:40):
So that's already checkbox. So now it's just get your
popcorn and see who or what related to USC Is
it Will Ferrell saying something dumb?
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Is it? You know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (13:50):
Who is it around the program that says something that
gets everybody all upset?
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (13:56):
They're mad?
Speaker 3 (13:57):
That you know, they get to hang out with Matt
Lioner on it commercial. I mean, I don't know what's
what's the next thing to push a button? But it's
good television right and right now. We're looking for good
quality storylines that thread thread through a season and love
it or hate it. It's interesting as hell?
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Is it genius? Because like you said, love it or
hate it, but the results are there. I mean things
that like you shouldn't be able to do and the
results are there. Now can he keep it up? That's
that's the soap oper who knows that's a traveling show.
That is Colorado Football. But this is everything you could
possibly want that should be impossible to do, and he's
doing it. It's amazing. But this shows you the benefits
(14:40):
of having a CEO as a head coach in college football. Twitter,

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon Live from the tyreq dot Com studios.
And it's been a big football Friday, right We've been
a lot of big football stories to get to. We'll
give you our upset special picks for the week. Coming
up in a little bit, tell you about a team
that's gonna start zero to two that you don't think
(15:48):
is gonna start oh and two. But we have big
breaking MLB news tonight involving show Hey Otani. And let's
go to a guy who's got a lot in common
with show Hey Otani. It's Steve Desager to bring us
a story with what's trending right now.
Speaker 8 (16:04):
Steve O, Yes, I too have cleared out my locker
and discussed.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
That's exactly what I was gonna say, nicely done, good
for you.
Speaker 8 (16:13):
The La Times reports that most of Otani's personal belongings
were missing from his locker inside the Angel clubhouse. They
did lose again tonight, hosting Detroit and losing eleven to
two to the Tigers, but all of his shoes were gone,
some personal items. All it was left was a few
Angel shirts, you know, his all star Duffel bag. Not
much else, just maybe the dust marks left behind by
(16:35):
the objects that are no longer there. Even Otani's water
jug in the garbage. So media reporters in Anaheim looking
for answers were lingering around the clubhouse. The Angels tonight,
according to The Times, decline comment on the locker, other
than stating they would say something on Saturday. Otani had
been in the stadium before this defeat, had been in
(16:57):
the clubhouse tonight. Of course, with his oblique in he
was out of the lineup again. That's eleven straight games
he has missed. Assuming he doesn't play through the weekend,
that'll be two straight weeks off. And of course you
may have heard, with the arm injury, he's not pitching
anytime soon either. And after this weekend there are only
a couple of weeks left in the regular season Angels
after the defeat sixty eight and eighty this year, but
(17:20):
most of Otani's things cleared out of his locker in
anaheut back to you.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Oh boy, thank you, Steve.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Even his water bottle was in the trash.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
I am getting rid of everything.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
Did they leave a clue by leaving the Duffel bag
from the All Star Game in Seattle?
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Is that a clue?
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Jason Smith and dj Otani back back back, back, back,
back back gone from the Angels at this point in
the season. Teach back back, back, back back gone. Look, yeah,
this is part of on the all. Right, there's on
(18:03):
the surface and then there's below the surface. On the surface,
he's not gonna play again. And the oblique injury, why
would you why would you do that? Right, if you're
if you're the Angels, why would you risk him playing again?
There's no reason to. He probably has the MVP sewn up.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
They took it off books.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Yeah, there's no reason for him to continue to to
play if he doesn't have to, so, yeah, it makes sense.
And with his impending free agency. Yeah, okay, you don't
know if he's gonna come back. I understand it. That's
the real surface. He thing. Everything is fine, no worry,
everything is fine. Everything. Then he had under it and
you realize he's gone. He's gone because you know, A,
(18:43):
this is not the Angels making this decision. This is
Show Hey and team Show Heyo Tani. Because the one
thing we have seen, we've seen a little bit how
the sausage is made. Over the course the last couple
of months with Otani, it's not Hey, here's the angels.
We're saying this. We're protecting shoe Heo Tani. Hey, he's
got a he's got a bit of a h a
problem with his thumb. It could be a cramp. He's
coming out of the game. He's doing that. No, everything
(19:05):
you have seen when it comes to Otani, whether it's
the UCL, whether it's the cramp and his thumb, it
was the Angels reacting after they got their orders from
Show Hey and his advisors, Show Heyotani is making the
decisions on his career, and he is informing the angels,
this is what I want to do. Do you want surgery?
Speaker 5 (19:23):
No?
Speaker 1 (19:24):
I don't. Okay, maybe he gets it, maybe he gets
it with somebody else, But the Angels are just basically
waiting for decisions from him and then trying to make
it seem like they're they're their decisions. Yeah, yeah, we're
gonna protect her. No. Basically, his team is telling the Angels,
this is what we want. Do you really think the
Angels wanted to clean out his locker? He's done, right,
The Angels want that, we want his locker cleaned out.
(19:45):
Look like he's he's gone from this team. Of course not.
But for whatever reason, show Hey Otani has decided this
is what's going to happen. The Angel said they're gonna
have a comment on it tomorrow. But you know this
is not good. If you thought that at any point
he was coming back to the Angels. Not happening. He
doesn't need to. He could have gone to get his
stuff at any point, could have left his stuff there
for the rest of the season. Could have And you're
(20:06):
gonna get some kind of crazy comment tomorrow from the
Angels to try to cover it up like this, right,
You're you're gonna get this. You're gonna get well. With
the expansion of rosters and and and show Hey is
likely not going to play again because of the oblique injury.
It's more room in the clubhouse, all these crazy ass
stuff you're gonna get. Oh, you know, he had a
couple of guys Sharon lockers right Somewhe're gonna have them
now they can move in, right Nick, Really, someone's gonna
(20:28):
move into show his locker. They're gonna have some kind
of crazy thing. I guarantee you the Angels Brass is
brainstorming right now. What is that? What can we say?
What can we say? And you're gonna get some kind
of crazy explanation tomorrow. But show, Hey, Otani cleared out
his locker, He's gone. I don't think there's any coincidence
that we see their report earlier today. Peter Gammon says
that that Otani's got potential interest in Boston, even though
(20:50):
there's some roster configuration the Red Sox have to do
because they have everybody play. They'd have like eleven d
h's and you can't have that out.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
To the front office shake up, right, So you get
a little bit going on there as well.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Yeah, this is telling you he is gone. It's gonna
be somewhere else, and teams are starting to get their
offers ready to go. In the end, probably I think
he's gonna want to stay on the West Coast. I
don't know, because I just go by me because I
like the West Coast. If I'm gonna move someplace else,
I'm gonna stay on the West Coast. But you know, look,
there's many teams that could wind up with a big
offer for him. But you know, certainly teams like La Seattle,
(21:26):
San Francisco that we've heard that could be in his wheelhouse,
those are the ones who want a bid for him.
The Mets, I'm sure we'll kick the tires on him
a little bit, even though maybe going a little bit
gunshy of spending that kind of money. But make no mistake,
this is it. It's done, it's gone, and the Angels
have to sit back and say, had we just not
beaten the Yankees in that series? Had we just not
beaten the Yankees and swept that series and thought, hey,
(21:49):
we're really good? Because when did they decide to keep
show Heyo Tani. They swept the Yankees right two days
before the trade deadline, and it was, hey, we got
it back. Now, we got our mojo back. We're feeling
really good. Turns out, sweeping the Yankees isn't that great?
Because you know, the Yankees aren't that great, but that
was the sea, that was the series that said, ah,
we're gonna keep him. Now you go back and say,
(22:10):
look at what we did. We're gonna lose him for nothing.
We're gonna lose sho Hey Otani for nothing because any
team that's gonna trade for Otani is gonna trade for
him knowing we can sign him long term. Which if
that's the case, means what you're gonna you were gonna
get better prospects. You were gonna get better players in return,
because a team's not gonna trade and say, hey, we
(22:30):
just want you down the stretch. No, no, no, we want
to get you because hey, you are the baseball unicor.
We talked about Deian Sanders being a college football in Unicorn.
You're the original Unicorn. Be talking about you all year.
So that's how it would have went. And if the
Angels just had not swept the Yankees, the entire baseball
season ends differently.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Yeah, I mean, per perhaps, I mean perhaps they were
gonna hold on. Like I was fully on board with
the idea that Artie Moreno that was gonna just ride
it out to the end from a financial piece and
from the you know, blind putting the blinders on that
you know what he's getting. We've done everything we can
for him. We've made you know, all of this stuff work.
(23:11):
He's got to love us, right, He's got to love us.
So did you have the report that came out beginning
of this week, the end of last right as the
NFL seasons, uh, you know, getting underway, noted Eagles fan
and meteorologists Mike Trout would be amenable to moving on
as well.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
So, like you got all these random.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Reports popping out there about the future of the squad,
I go back to Ardie Moreno and just being obstinate, right,
had the team up for at least an exploration of
what the valuation would be, and then that quietly went away.
We talk about the monies that came in from Japanese
advertisers and Japanese television to broadcast games whatever. I am
(23:53):
fully convinced, even if they'd gotten swept the other way,
you were going to really have to overwhelm him, or
they were gonna have to do the Jerry Jones move
where they lock him in a closet while they make
another draft pick to keep him from doing what he
wants no, no, Well, you gave us the power of attorney
(24:13):
to make deals in your absence, and you were stuck
while we look for a locksmith to get you out.
That's what happened, Arreadie. Otherwise Otani was gonna be there
till the bitter end. But certainly now you wonder what
was real, what was imagined in terms of any offers
that did come down the pipeline, because already after this
(24:33):
news Jason, people going through the thought think about they
would have gotten this generational stack of this that the
other It's.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Like, would they have really?
Speaker 4 (24:42):
I don't know that they would have maybe maybe.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
I mean we certainly saw the angels trade away top
prospects and again their angels.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Let's just think about what the pots to build. But
just think about what it would have been like Otani's
out there, We're fielding offers for him. You know what
the frenzy would have been. Let's try to go we
could get show wait wait wait, we could get show. Heyo, Tani,
we can we can we can get I mean that
it would have just amped up and gotten out of control.
Well but not with those ton of teams, but with
like three or four teams who are we're gonna go
(25:12):
in for him at the end of this year.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
But but it becomes the you know, what are you
giving up? If you're a contender, what are you giving
up to get him now? And if you're looking long term,
is is he on the list of teams where he
would be amenable to going right? Because that's that's the
other part of it. I still think he ends up
on the West Coast, whether it's a Dodgers and West
(25:35):
Coast liberally, uh speaking, you know the the Seattle Duffel bag.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
I kid that it's still.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
In the locker, but you don't think all of that
is directed that they don't know what's in there. Dude,
this is you lead just a couple of things. Here's
a couple of T shirts and here's here's a Duffel bag.
Everything else is thrown out, everything else has gone. It's
the game of clue.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
He's left. He left Angel shirts and his all Star
duff on the locker, and as you said, his water
bottle was in the trash.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
This is like a scene from a breakup when you
go to the other person, Listen, I'm not gonna be home.
You want to go and grab your stuff and leave
the key. Okay, and you go over really rushed and
you grab some stuff, you keep, some stuff, some stuff
you leave, and.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
Some stuff gets thrown out that you don't even know
even have a choice, or it gets put out on
the lawn like Will Ferrell's movie Everything Must Go.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
That's what this sounds like. I'm gonna keep this shirt.
I'm gonna keep. I want this, I want these shorts back. Great,
I got where my star my sneakers. Great, I got this,
this or this I'm not gonna keep. I'm gonna you
know what, I'm gonna leave this here. Yeah, I'm gonna
leave this here. Oh you always love that water bottle.
Guess what, I'm throwing it in the trash. I'm throw
you love that throwing the trash, and I'm leaving. Here's
the key right there on the on the on the counter.
(26:48):
You go, good luck with that. Threw my yettie away,
you jerk? So yeah, I mean you've got dude. Wait
yeah wait yeah those are those are worth some money.
Those cost a pretty petty man.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
Yeah, my daughter stole mine to a well, that was
the gift. When I went and did the US Open coverage,
they get They gave me a yetti with the the
cool logo on there.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
She saw it. She's like, yeah, I think I'm gonna
have this. Now, this would be good for socker. I'm like,
just like that.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
Huh, all right, that's the way it goes, dude. The
stuff I get co OpEd that Zoe has co opted from, Like, Oh,
where's that Guns and Roses shirt?
Speaker 4 (27:23):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (27:23):
There it is, you're wearing it to school? Oh okay,
got it? Got it?
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Okay, no, no, no, trust me that I have this similar
concert shirts, cool sports shirts, stuff my brothers have sent
you know that from the White Sox or the Bears.
I mean the fact that they wear them there they're
brave children because look, you're looking looking at a lifetime
and being mocked. But all of that, Yeah, that's just customary.
(27:49):
I just think it's really interesting the inventory of what
was left behind when you do the purge. Because you
can't tell me that's haphazard by any way, in any way. No,
you're a guy that's arculated as he is.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Yeah, you're leaving angels gear. I mean, I don't know
why you throw the wall. I guess you're not doing anything.
Although i'd get the water bottle out of the trash
and put it on eBay. I'd make a lot of money.
Hell yeah, but leave it leaving the Angels gear Yeah,
I guess. Do you think leaving the All Star Duffel
means he's not gonna sign with Seattle since that?
Speaker 4 (28:20):
I don't think so. I think it's I think they're
in play.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
You think settle now, Yeah, the Angels are out and
Seattle's out and whoever made that water bottle they're.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Out to.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
Whoa boy? He is so good. I mean, it's like
a breakup. It's really it's insane. I really would like
just not me being selfish, but I would really like
someone to write it. But if they could, because but
you need access to Otani over the course of this
past year. But I really would have liked to have
somebody be inside writing a book on this season with
(28:56):
Otani and the Angels and what it's like from both
sides perspective spent I'm with Otani and his people, and
then you spend time with the Angels, Like that's like
a John Feinstein book. Like here, I'm spending the first
month of the season with Otani, then I'm spending the
month with the angels with with you know what, with
the other players and seeing it from their perspective and
here and that yere, it would be, it would be.
It's so incredibly interesting because he's still as the biggest
(29:18):
star in the sport, one of the biggest stars on
the planet, and he's still such an unknown that his behavior,
what he likes, what he doesn't like, I mean, we
don't know. I mean I really would love something like that.
I mean again, you can't go back in time and
make something up. And I don't know if he would
give you access for a whole year on it, but boy,
that would just be a fascinating read, absolutely fascinating.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
You have no idea that might have been going on
the whole time. We get them behind the scenes. See,
I was building up to the decision.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Oh we'll find out. We'll find out Twitter and out
about a Fresca. Mike ha swalling down the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Carmon right now, a
guy who was throwing not one, but three water bottles
in the trash here at Fox Sports Radio, it's Steve Desager.
Now he has what trending in the wide world sports.
Speaker 8 (30:01):
Actually, I'd be going to look to find to pick
a Hey, I got three more water, but thanks Harmon.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Get in there and sell, sell, sell, Maybe let's go.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
There'd be a picture of you in the Angels locker
room holding the water bottle. Sea it's a real one.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
Oh okay, great, it's veriphiticity.
Speaker 8 (30:18):
Yeah, not quite like the guy who got Luise Gonzalez
chewed gum off the grass at the field one time.
But no, no, it won't be up on eBay. Detroit
beat the Angels eleven to two tonight. For those who
joined us late show, Heyotani out again tonight and most
of his stuff out of his locker now. San Diego
beat Oakland eight to three. Kansas City beat Houston for
(30:38):
to two.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Wait a minute, that was good, well, well, well delivered there, Steve.
Speaker 6 (30:44):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
Oh very nice, Steve. On not your first day I got.
Speaker 8 (30:47):
Don't try this at home. Houston first in the AL West,
still a half game over Texas. Cleveland ended Texas six
game winning streak twelve to three, but Minnesota is still
the first place team in the AL Central, still eight
games up up on the Guardians. Twins won their game
at the White Sox ten to two, as rookie Royce
Lewis hit a Grand Slam, his fourth slam of the
year in an eighteen game span. The record was four
(31:10):
Grand slams in a thirty nine game span. Milwaukee got
two solo homers from Carlos Santana and beat Washington five
to three. Brewers are first in the NL Central five
and a half over the Cubs. Now Cubs were down
six to nothing in the ninth, did hit three late homers,
but Arizona six to four is the final. Diamondbacks are
tied for the last NL wildcard spot with the Reds,
(31:32):
who won their game at the Mets five to three
despite a Pete Alonzo home run. It's forty fifth one
game back for that last NL wildcard spot is San Francisco.
Their closer, Camillo Duvall, took the loss, giving up two
runs bottom of the ninth, losing at Colorado, the worst
team in the National League three to two. Giants offense
tonight went two for twenty nine. They did walk seven times,
(31:53):
but struck out eleven times. Both San Francisco hits came
in the top of the ninth, and they still nearly
won this game. Arizona's win over the Cubs, by the way,
was against All star Justin Steele, who had been sixteen
and three. Another good start for Toronto's Jose Burrios seven innings,
eight strikeouts. Toronto ended a four game losing streak beating
(32:13):
Boston three to nothing. Vladimir Guerrero Junior a three run
homer wins for Miami and the Yankees, and Tampa Bay
Is tied with the Orioles for first place in the
Al East. Just over two weeks left in the season,
Rays won seven to one at Baltimore, winning pitcher Zach
Eflin fifteen and eight. There were three college football games tonight.
Maryland's three and OH it trailed fourteen nothing to Virginia
(32:35):
in the first quarter, but beat Virginia forty two to fourteen.
Virginia Cavaliers OH and three Army had two hundred yard
rushers and actually passed for one hundred eighty eight yards
in a win at ut San Antonio thirty seven to
twenty nine. Air Force is three and OH it had
two hundred yard rushers and beat Utah State thirty nine
to twenty one. It was thirty nine to seven in
(32:58):
the third. The Academy's defense had five sacks. Chiefs tight
end Travis Kelsey is expected to make his season debut Sunday.
Texans rookie quarterback c J. Stroud questionable with the right
shoulder injury. Was limited in practice today. Chargers running back
Austin Eckler doubtful for the game at Tennessee Sunday with
a sprained ankle, and Titans wide receiver at DeAndre Hopkins questionable.
(33:19):
A reminder Fox TV's big noon game in college football Saturday,
he will be number seven Penn State at Illinois.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Back to you thanks a bunch of Deevo, Jason Smith
Mike Harmon live from the Tirack dot Com Studios show. Hey,
Otani is locker cleared out? May have seen him with
angels gear on for the final time, especially since you
know he left all those T shirts behind as well.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
Wow, that's it.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Wait, let me go to eBay right now and see
if I can get him. Hang on, Let's see, hang
on now.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Were they the commemorative T shirts that have like his
cartoon image all over, like the little chibi figures or
whatever you.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
Got that going on? Or right? They just actual angels gear?
Hang on?
Speaker 1 (34:00):
I did o tawny Angels locker room shirt. No, not yet,
not any yet. Okay, yeah, give it time.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
We gotta wait club out us attendants. They're gonna beat
each other up. First rule of fight club. You get
all the stuff if you're left standing.
Speaker 1 (34:18):

Speaker 1 (35:23):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the tyraq dot com studios,
got to play the Night Coming your Way in a
couple of minutes. But first about some big time NFL
upset specials going into this weekend. I mean we had
(35:43):
the big upset special a few minutes ago of show,
Heyotani clearing out his locker in Anaheim.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
So the boy he was upset, and boy was and
that of whoever else helped you? Because I mean someone
sneaked in under cover of night to get the stuff
out of there.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Right, Oh you had to, right, I mean yeah, so
that's what it is.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Yeah, that's it. That's how it goes.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
I want to know who that guy is crawling through
the ducks like he's Joey Bell.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
But for all very good, that's a good reference. That's
a good you used before he did. That's very nice,
very good. But before we get to that, how about
some upset special picks Mike and I do it every
single week. We're gonna lead up to the big one.
I'm gonna kick things off with my two games, and
I know you're going to hate me for this. You're
gonna think, oh, what are you doing to me? But
(36:30):
give me the Bears getting three over Tampa. Right, Look,
the Bucks aren't good. Don't tell me, don't try to
protect The Bucks are not good. Chicago was disappointing last week.
They got loose. Watching this game against Green Bay, they
just looked like they didn't have things quite taken care of.
This is a worse opponent. They're better than you think.
Give me the Bears and give me the Colts plus two. Okay, Houston,
(36:54):
these are two bad teams. Anthony Richardson is going to
be a star. You saw week one. There as nothing
stopping him. The game is not too big for him.
The Colts are the better team and getting Zack Moss
back is gonna be a huge key. They will run
the football a lot better than they did last week,
where Deon Jackson gained fourteen yards on twelve carries with
two fumbles. Zack Moss was really good last year filling
(37:17):
in for Jonathan Taylor. They're gonna win. Gimme the Colts
getting two points. So there's my two upset specials.
Speaker 4 (37:23):
Yeah, I think what we look at at the Colts.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
If you can get the run game going with Moss,
I mean, everybody wins up the fantasy waiver wire one
but two for Richardson slowed things down because they came
out of camp with very few wide receivers on the
board there. As for the Bears, I don't have enough
time to break it down. Go back and watch that
game again.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
I like him, That's okay. You don't have to like him.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Yeah, you can like him all you want.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
I'm gonna go with a couple couple of deep bowls.
Good thing Frostburg's not listening. I'm taking Tennessee at home.
Getting the field goal forty five and a half. I
think Herbert and company moved the ball well enough, but
defensively so many issues. Kelly steps in for Eckler, fantasy
boon potential there, but defensively missing a couple of key cogs.
(38:14):
I think you get Henry rolling, and it looks like
Hopkins is gonna give it the old College try. Sat
down with Tannehill a bunch, even though he wasn't available
for practice. The other one, and I know you hate
this one, is New England getting three at home, a
couple of dogs for you. Forty six and a half
defense comes to play and Alabama Max shows out.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
Yes, I completely disagree, but like they say, we'll see
which one of us is right, which one of us
is dead.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
And then we get two games on Monday night when
we next get to yell at each other.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, and I'll tell you this, I'll give you a
big ball predicture for Monday night. We're talking about the
oh and two Chiefs. Oh and two Chiefs. Yes, they
get Travis Kelce back. Jacksonville's the better team. You don't
just fix all your problems in one week. I know
the general consensus is, Oh, they got Kelsey, they're gonna
start winning. The Chiefs have some issues right now. The
Jacksonville Jaguars don't. They're the better team. They win. We're
(39:10):
talking about Paddic but no one too. Chiefs on Monday night.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
You want to talk about a game. You just want
to sit down and enjoy the potential for chaos.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
I'm there.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
I like Kelsey screwing with people today too, running sprints.
Then pulls up, Oh my knee, and then he started twirking.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know that I would I wouldn't
tempt fate with that. But hey, you know what, no
exactly you feel that, you feel you're invincible.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
I guess allegedly we have no idea what's true, what's
imagine there? But you know we all secretly root for him.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
There we go.
Speaker 1 (39:41):
Mm. Time now for the play of the night. And
the Play of the Night, of course, is brought to
you by Progressive Insurance. And I'll tell you what, Yes,
it's from Major League Baseball. But wait till you hear
the call. Here is your play of the Nights.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
Here's the pitch, and that has swung. I didn't life
field line.
Speaker 7 (40:00):
Oh fair ball, that's gonna clear the basis. The bases loaded,
three run double for Stolics in the bottle of the seventh,
the Marlet's lead night to six.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Marlin's in playoff contention. These are the calls you get,
Mike Harmon. These are the calls you get when the
Marlins are in playoff contention.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
These are the calls.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
