Speaker 2 (00:22):
Let's give this you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight to the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Yeah, live from
the ti iraq dot com studios tyrack dot com. I'll
help you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free roadhazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers ti rack
dot com the way tire buying should be. Now we'll

(00:51):
get to the night in college football coming up in
a minute, because boy did we have crazy drama, big
takeaways for Florida Nebraska and again probably the best toe
tap catch I have ever seen in my life in
the big Minnesota win over Nebraska on Big Fox. But
I'll tell you Mike right now, bottom of the ninth inning,

(01:13):
huge four game series Dodgers on the Braves sign me
up for Braves Dodgers NLCS. This game is eight to seven,
the Dodgers down to their last out, but they have
two on This is a game Atlanta was up six
to one in the second inning. But Mookie Betts has
gone deep a couple of times Max months he hit
a home run. They have four home runs overall, and

(01:33):
the However, this turns out if key Key Hernandez is
able to get a base hit and win the game,
or if he strikes out. Yeah, sign me up for
seven games of this uh in October. I will, I
will absolutely take that. I don't care what else you have.
Give me seven games of this.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Well, you know, we go through the EBB and flow.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
We talk about the dog days of August and getting
into winning time. And you got the two best teams
in this baseball universe battling it out four days here
as we flip the calendar September, some other teams are
looking for hope and wishing and wanting and praying. Right
perennial powerhouse, the Yankees. Hey, let's bring up the nineteen

(02:12):
year old the martian over here, Jason Demingez, and give
him some starts. So you all think about what the
future might look like as opposed to the cesspool we're
putting out here now. But we get the Braves and
the Dodgers. Looks like it's gonna be a runaway. Not
so fast, not so fast, every out, every pitch, every battle,

(02:33):
all the way through, and the stars on parade, some
of the guys. I mean, we've watched the last couple
of nights, you and I in the studio chuckling, how's
Jason Heyward again? So you're having all of those guys
right against the Snakes. You have those big moments and
a lot of other guys stepping forward. But you look
at the streak months he's on and you can't say

(02:55):
enough about Mooky bleeping bets and where he's at right now.
Fight with him and Ronald Acuna Junior going down to
the wire for the MVP, and you know Game one
gave us all sorts of thrills. Yeah, sign me up,
take my money.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Uh Iglesias is able to nail the final out down
Key Hernanders just didn't look like he was close to
anything on that final at Batti gets him on a
breaking pitch in the dirt. Braves win it by the
final of eight to seven. And I'm telling you what
we said. We said it last hour. These are your
two best teams in baseball right now. It's not even close.
The Braves star power far exceeds that of anybody. The

(03:34):
Braves talent far exceed that of anybody else in Major
League Baseball. Yes, if the Dodgers Braves isn't the NLCS,
something is wrong. But I'll do you one better. If
the Braves aren't the World Series winners, something is wrong.
This is the best team in baseball and they have
everything you could possibly need. You have all stars all
throughout the line. We had eight all stars overall, everybody

(03:55):
and tonight's starting lineup for the Braves hitting over two sixty.
Can I we just think about that. Everybody's hit sixty.
I want to I get it. The Mets to have
one guy over two sixty. Everybody's over two sixty.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
Oh, I mean, look, the aforementioned Yankees hitting two thirty
one as a team. So let's have some fun, uh
fun with numbers as we go. But I want to
cut and print this for all of the ink that's
been slung at the feet of Dave Roberts for years
over pitching, management and bullpen, runs and everything else. Tonight,

(04:27):
I am giving him complete love. Why Lance Lynn sucked?
Chris Ballard would say that he sucked ninety seven times
as we chronicled his vocabulary choices yesterday talking about the
situation with Jonathan Taylor. But when they gave up six
runs in the second inning and it was all going

(04:47):
to hell, did he say, hey, Lynn, get out of here. No,
he said, I'm gonna need my bullpen for the rest
of this series. Damn it, Lynn, You're not getting off
easy night. You were gonna listen to the pain. You're
gonna listening to the booze. You're gonna listen to the
screams of these fans because we're.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Gonna need you. We're gonna need you to keep eating innings.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
Just like Bray Why at the late Great Bray why
it would tell you I am the eater of worlds,
still gave you four and a third innings.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
I think you know, Jameis Winston eating WS, You do that, okay?
All right? Because eating W seven because he went like,
eating W's makes it sound like I can have a
bowl of cereal, Like, oh yeah, I'm having a bowl
of W So oh that's even though it's not really
a cereal. It sounds is there not a W Cereal?
I don't think so. I think how could I would be?
I mean if look, if he talked about eating W's

(05:36):
while he was winning the Heisman Trophy, they may have
made that cereal. Wow. But you know, I don't think
they do it. You know, they don't do that when
you're you know, when you're throwing thirty interceptions in the season.
They don't think they do the thirty thirty guy. Uh
So the bravest there at some point this year, I
have to think at some point he does. Sure, Sure, sure,
I think so. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
I was It's either him or the ultra swool Derek Are.
Let's get back to your braves though.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Or that's not my brain, not my braves that if
they don't win the World Series, there's something wrong.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
You have forsaken the Mets, the overwhelming favorite Braves.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
And am I saying this to put a reverse curse
jinx out there on the Braves? Not as far as
you know, but no, but really the Braves. Look, you're
talking about a team that is just dominant in every
facet of the game, and it's It's incredible what they've
been able to do. All their young talent coming together.
They have figured out the right moment in time, and
it's just everything ever and they were fortunate that every

(06:32):
guy that came up that was good they gave money
to he stayed good. And it's a young ball club.
They all come up together, they've all been playing together
for a while and they're still all young. I mean,
this is a it's a phenomenal run. The Braves are
on right now. The Jason Smith shod Mike Harmon live

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Now.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Out of college football, tonight, we saw a big time
thriller and there's one game that was good that half
the country didn't get to see. Let's talk about the thriller. First,
Nebraska loses to Minnesota, who comes from behind in the
final three minutes and scores ten points to win. The
game came down to this play, down by seven, Minnesota's

(07:22):
got the ball and it's fourth down from the Nebraska
thirteen yard line. It was a weird drive from Minnesota.
It was five and six yards at a time, helped
out by a couple of big penalties. But Minnesota's sitting
there facing a fourth down from the thirteen yard line,
and this turns out to maybe be the best toe

(07:44):
tap boundary catch I've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Kelly Akmanus on fourth down, waiting those to the end zones.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Got a man there.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
It's incomplete.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
No, he got a touchdown.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Jackson got that backfoot through dragging.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Us came open. Minnesota Radio network on the call. Even
the play by play guy didn't think he caught it.
Daniel Jackson makes a catch that when I saw it live,
I said, and the referee called it a touchdown. I said,
well that's that's not gonna stand. There's no way, there's
no way. You watch this replay and I'm you know,

(08:18):
look again, prisoner of the moment. I get this, but
I've never seen a guy make a catch like this.
Watching this, I feel like watching the Odell Beckham one
handed catch, Like how did he do this? It's not
just that Daniel Jackson comes down with the ball. He
is fully extended in the air, and his right foot
you get to wear the tip of his right foot

(08:38):
is at least three feet past the out of bounds
marker in the end zone. Three feet past it. He's
three feet out of bounds. His body is like perched,
it's right between inbounds and out of bounds. The back
half of his body is over You're talking about three
feet of his right leg is over the line, and
there's no way he's gonna come down. And somehow, not

(09:01):
only does he he's able to come down, he hits
his left foot just comes down just enough, right before
the right foot comes down out of bounds. I don't
know how you have that kind of body control. I
really I don't know. I know that that these are
the you know, look wide receivers. They work on different
things every single day college. I don't expect a kid
to make a play like this, a play like this.

(09:22):
You expected the best of the best from professionals in
the NFL. But this, I don't know how he did it.
The body control that he had to make this play,
there's no way he should have been able to do it.
I've seen this play now twenty times. I am just
as amazed now as it was when he caught it.
How does he do it? How does he land in bounds?
How does he leap at just the right moment? How
he's I don't know how you can do that? How
you can still going that far forward and still be

(09:45):
able to get that to bring your left foot straight
down and hit the ground before your right foot hits
the ground again at least three feet over the line,
And when his foot finally does come down, it's probably
about four feet away from the line. It's it's human.
Jason made no. And that's the thing right the way
is legs.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
I mean, it's Baryshnikov, it's the great dancers, It's Lord
of the Dance, Michael Flatley in terms of body control
and poise and everything else.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Huge moment, fourth down play. I mean this this is
where heroes are born.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
I mean you want to talk about, Hey, how many
nil deals has he gotten from? Something gopher related? I mean,
he's Carl Speckler. He's taking over as we go through.
But just the stuff of legend. I mean you see
where that ball is thrown, and I was like, yeah,
that's sailing way out of bounds. And then to be

(10:40):
able to stretch, I mean it's plastic, man, it's all
those things, all those cartoons and comic books we read
as kids. I mean, there it is, live and in
living color on this grand stage on an opening night.
Now there's some crying about officiating. All right, there's a
they ruled this here they they tackle may have lifted

(11:00):
his leg early. Here again subruder film and and get
your freeze frame as you need to, and all of
that timing going down. I could argue there were a
couple of would be past interference calls on that drive
and the one before it that they just said, nope,
play on like you do in so many circumstances.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
But well, if he doesn't make that catch that that's
probably gonna be a pass interference pedal because the dB
grabs him because he gets fooled so bad. He grabs
him on his way by him to catch the ball
in the back of the end zone.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Yeah, here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
Would it have been.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Based on where that ball was going? Right, I mean
based on where he threw it. Ah, he can't get
to that, right, that's one of those I think it's uncatchable.
And then the ref looks that the other one goes, well,
I'll be damned right, because as he threw it, it's like, wow,
that was that was a good end. I mean, we
got some juice and it's like no, no, no, you
see the pellets all flying up in the air. It's like,

(11:57):
all right, timing, and now let's slow it down. Foot down,
foot over here. That's still up. Let's review it. But
I mean give it the official credit. The Fox camera crew.
Their angle of it, like right over his shoulder, right
like he had a helmet cam on almost you're looking
piercing through his head, uh, to see what his eyes see.

(12:21):
It had eyes to give him that that touchdown catch.
And what's great is it's gonna look like a perfect
throw tomorrow. Yeah, the thing is throwing the box score
in the right up. Yeah, the throw was not the
throw is how do you overthink? He's opened by ten yards?
The dB is nowhere. How do you throw it all
the way out of bounds?

Speaker 1 (12:39):
How do you? I? I don't uh, but hey it
looks great, right, it looks great. But that guard I
can't get over it. I see that and it reminds
me of the Beckham catch And I don't know how
he did it. How you have that kind of body
control to be able to make that catch. I mean
it's two different catches. Obviously, Beckham's the one head catch,
but he's falling down, he's falling back and he gets

(13:01):
his hand up and it just sticks there. I mean,
this is I'm in the air. Somehow he makes an
adjustment in the air while catching the ball and gets
that foot down. It's I mean, really that that is
all of a sudden, this kid is gonna be I
don't know you're gonna see a better catch all year.
I don't know you're gonna see something more impressive. You'll

(13:21):
see you'll see diving catches, You'll see stuff. You'll see
big catch at the end of games to win games,
to keep teams alive for the playoff. But sheer ability
and and and and body control. I've never seen anything
like it. It was it was just that good. Well,
can I just say this for you, for me, for America?
I mean, this is this is there's no dress rehearsals.

(13:42):
I mean we were watching preseason games and what nah.
This is it.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Man.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
We're live and we're back in it Monday and Thursday
night football on some occasional PAC twelve After the Dark.
Let's go those Friday night affairs that will get mixed
therein But uh yeah, welcome back foot. I mean, if
we're gonna get something like that, look and maybe you
know you wanted a forty eight to forty five game
and you think this was watching paint dry. No, you

(14:09):
watched Matt Rule grind it out on the sideline looking
like every play was the biggest play of his life,
trying to bring Nebraska back to form.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Me.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Meanwhile, PJ.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
Fleck is now forty one in FOURGN games, He's led
at halftime, all these great moments, and it's a great,
big ten game on Fox Exit.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
How about a Fresca exit swollen Dome. The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carmon live from the tire Rack dot
Com Studios coming up next. If you thought that was something,
there is a huge, huge, huge, There is a huge
bit of controversy going on tonight surrounding not anything college
football had on the field, but on your television as

(14:57):
you tried to watch the game of the night. We
get into the that big sticky wicket coming up next
right here, Jason and Mike, this is Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Be sure to catch live editions of the Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon
Live from the tiraq dot com studios where you know,
I have a bit of news here and I want
to know, Steve Disager, if you have it here for
a quick second. I have a very big story involving
Ronald m'cunya, big grand slam tonight. Hell yeah, I have
an eligibility change for Ronald m'cunya that I don't think

(15:40):
people are aware of from John Morosi. I want to
know if your research matches this big time eligibility change
for Ronald d'acunya, who confirmed in a conversation with John
Morosi that he and his wife were married in Los
Angeles this morning before the game.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
That is true.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
I have seen the photo. All right, birthday there we go,
So that is true. He got married in LA. What
do I do in La? Well, we got a big
series with the Dodgers. I thought, we get married, and
he walks up to.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
The plate in the second inning and hits a grand slam.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Yeah, how many times have you seen it? A guy
gets married in the morning and then hits a grand
slam and second at bat of the game.

Speaker 5 (16:17):
Yeah, I say never.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Yeah, I don't think that. I don't think that's ever
been done.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
I don't know check stat saying they might have something
on that.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
All right, see if I'll give you a few minutes
to cross reference that to see if you can find
something for for what's trending on.

Speaker 5 (16:30):
That might be impossible.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Somehow, google married on the day you hit a grand slam,
you google that. Put it this way.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
If I actually found that, that would be my wedding
gift to him.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
A very good thank you, my friend. Uh, it's weird
because that's cut, you know, Like here he is, he's
flying to LA for a game and getting married. He's
just gonna get married. It's I would think it's strange,
except Pam and I did the exact same thing. We
did the exact same thing. We had been together home run. Yeah,
then I hit a grand grand slam.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
Wait, I mean it's after ten o'clock, so I mean
you can get a little bit into the details if
you feel you need to hang on.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
No, she's outside the door. My grand slam was marrying
my wife. Okay, good, no, So we just we've been
together for like waiting for you at the end of
the day, Sandwich. We've been together for a long time,
Like we started dating in like ninety five and so
thirteen years because we got married in two thousand and eight,
and we knew at some point we got to the

(17:31):
point where we're like, okay, we wanted to have a kid,
and we said, all right, we're gonna have a kid.
We want to kids got to have benefits, and and
Pam was working freelance and I, you know, working full
time at at ESPN. We were like, well, and then
well we should get married. We're like, yeah, okay, I'm like, yeah,
when do you want to do it? She goes, well,
let me see, and she said, well, I got us
an appointment on Friday morning at noon. I said, okay,

(17:53):
so we'll go get married on Friday. Yeah, okay, And
so we got it. Went to the Beverly Hills Courthouse.
I went through a metal detect I can always say
I went through I went through a metal detector on
my wedding day. That was pretty cool. And walked in
just as the piece married us and there's one photo
that we have of it from us getting married, because
it was just we'd been together, if we never felt
the need because we'd just been we knew, like we

(18:15):
knew right away this is it. Like we're together and
that's it, and we just never felt the need to,
like we want to have a kid. So we go down,
we got married, and I went to work that night.
I mean, I don't think I hit a grand so
I'm sure I had a good show. I mean, I
don't know what the show equivalent of a Grand Slam was,
but got married in there and then do a show
that night. No, it's good. I dig that.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
You know, no days off, I mean, especially if you're thinking, Hey,
we gotta have a kid, we're gonna go down this road.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
You gotta teach the kid work ethic. Eah, no days off.
You know the Hey, I'm taking a day off, it's
my birthday.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Screw that. And I thought for a while I'd be
able to tell that story and knowing, and then two
weeks later, Cash Warren and Jessica Alba did the exact
same thing. They went to the Beverly Hills Courthouse and
got married. I'm like, come on, man, it's enough that
the Jets and the Mets, everybody else, the media is
stealing my actor. Come on, man, you guys have to
go do that. You guys have money. You should have

(19:06):
given money to a cater or something. You got why man,
you know, you.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
Know how rich people stay rich. They don't spend it
and just give it away.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
All right, you want a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
So, yeah, cost efficiency smith.

Speaker 6 (19:25):
Yeah, but this is your wedding though. I mean, you
know it's gonna have some kind of it. You know,
I could go and I mean for them, it's really
I mean, it's about them. It's not about everybody else, right,
it's what you and your your wife did. Did you
consider everybody else? No, you said this works for us.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
My mom was actually standing there over in the corner
that's now going to become our witness.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Yeah, well the well and uh, the justice the piece
was our witness. You just needed her because you know
she's a justice of the piece. But my mom was
really my mom was mad. That's one thing I can
expect that I didn't. I didn't understand. I'm like, we've
been together for years and it's our wedding, so I mean,
it's what we want to do. But she was mad
and I was like, I couldn't. I could have. Luckily

(20:09):
I told her we were pregnant, but when we got pregnant,
I could tell her that. I'm like, I feel bad, Mom,
I'm gonna I'll be the first one to tell you
we were gonna have a baby. And she was excited
about that because I know I kind of let you
down a bit on the whole marriage thing, where you know, I'm.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
Like, but I go back to you know that that
origin story and a wedding and all. And since it
was in the Greater Chicago area, it was really overrun
by a lot of relatives who I've never seen or
heard from since that day. So, in hindsight, a lot
of folks that I paid for a pretty good meal,
and let me tell you, my family can drink a

(20:42):
lot of booze that I would have rather pocketed that
money in hindsight. But you know what, everybody had a
good time.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Twitter and out about a Fresca Mike had swollen dome,
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon Live from the tirec dot Com studios.
Now we had a big night in college football. We
got some big stuff on Florida and Nebraska on the way,
how have the big controversy? The night is gonna bleed
into tomorrow and it's already taken over anything bigger than
the games we had tonight. Spectrum is the number two

(21:11):
cable provider in the United States, behind Comcast is number one,
So almost half the houses in the in the country
have some form of Spectrum. Spectrum's been having a war
with Disney and other cable providers or another and other
stations about carriage issues and how much money they want
to charge for programming. They've not been able to solve

(21:34):
their dilemma. So Spectrum decided we're gonna draw a line
in the sand right here at kickoff, at kickoff of
Florida and Utah, the game of.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
Their strategy Smith like we always say, but I.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Don't know it's a good strategy, the game of the
night in college football. Right the game everybody's tuning over
to see We turned over to see it, and instead
of the game, a big scroll comes up on TV
saying that this UH channel is no longer being carried
by Spectrum, and there's a whole big line. It's like
Star Wars at the beginning is a time of unresting
the galaxy, Like there's this big scroll going on. Even

(22:09):
use that line. Yeah, the empire has been routed and
fleeting across the galaxy. So there's a two page there's
a two page note they have on screen telling you
we feel that Disney is out of their depth and
they're charging too much money. Until this dispute is resolved,
we can't carry this station. So they decided to throw

(22:31):
a draw line in the sand, saying, beginning of college football,
we're going to say we're no longer carrying Disney. Let's
just stop right here for a second. If I was
doing a business class, I would say, who thinks this
is a good idea? And anybody who raises their hand,
you're out of the class. Number wired. Any fan wants
to watch football, what do they see when they get

(22:54):
on TV and they see Spectrums decided not to carry
the game? Number one? Who is a fan gonna be
mad at Spectrum because you're the ones decided not to
carry the game, not Disney. We couldn't fit. This is money.
We're talking about millions upon billions of dollars. Nobody cares
about that. Nobody, nobody cares. They want to see the game,
and yeah, they're gonna talk about as signing blame. So

(23:15):
who are they gonna be mad at? Well, we had
the game going on, your cable provider decided they couldn't
do it. Half of the country can get along with it, okay,
DirecTV get along with okay, other but you guys couldn't.
So people are gonna be mad at Spectrum. Spectrum's attitude
in this whole time is that, hey, it's evil Disney
and we can't take their their programming anymore. Let me

(23:36):
ask again, I'll say, Ray to put your hand down
if you think it's still Spectrum's fault. Anybody who is
a TV consumer, you me, what do we want? We
want to see the game? Right? I don't have any
loyalty to my cable company. My cable company is not
sending me coupons every day, going hey, next month, we're
gonna cut your cable in half or thirty percent off.

(23:57):
Here's some Spectrum gear. Here's a great hoodie that it's
got an under Armor logo on it too. You see
how high quality it is. Nobody's got loyalty. No one's
gonna say, hey, I'm gonna go pick it in the
streets for Spectrum, like you're going down for the big
strike going on in Hollywood right now. No, I'm not
gonna go stand up for my cable company. What do
I want? I want the games? I want my college
football games. And what am I gonna do? If you're

(24:18):
not gonna carry it? I'm gonna find a way to
go get something else. And all of these games are
coming up the next forty eight hours. And if you
think something's gonna happen and Disney's gonna go crazy to say, Okay,
let's figure out this carriage issue, They're not. They're not.
And I got news for you in a couple of days.
If this isn't solved, guess what I'm gonna do. I'm
gonna go get YouTube TV because that's the number one

(24:39):
trending topic in the country. Why, because that's where everybody
is gonna go. If they have Spectrum, I can go by.
I can cancel Spectrum and go buy YouTube TV. Fine,
I'm sick of all this carriage disputes and the lack
of being able to sustain cable because cable is on
its way out. All there is is just continuing to
slow the descent to keep cable around as long as

(24:59):
you can. But it's instances like this that are gonna
hasten the demise of cable. All Spectrum is is doing
that because they're driving people away from their product, which
is cable, to somebody else that carries what they have.
I'm gonna go I'm gonna go to YouTube TV or
I'm gonna go here to get this package. I'm gonna
package ESPN with Hulu and something else and go get it,
because you know what, I want to see the games.

(25:20):
I want to see Syracuse play Colgate Saturday. It's ESPN
plus an ACC Network X whatever the hell that is.
So I gotta go get one of those things now
because I'm not gonna have because I might not have
the the Disney car carry on here. It's gonna be
a really big deal. And that's what people are gonna
go to. They're gonna go to the place where they
can see stuff. They're not gonna go to a place

(25:41):
where they can't see stuff. So they're just gonna leave
cable and that and it happens faster. Now there's no oh,
you can't see a cable now, Well, in three weeks
you'll be able to say no, no, I can cancel
my cable now get YouTube TV in five minutes if
I want to.

Speaker 7 (25:52):
I can do that.

Speaker 4 (25:53):
And that's what that's the thing, right, I don't have
to wait till you can come and see me in
a predetermined force six hour window that becomes twelve to fourteen.
And I've grown a full beard waiting for you to
show up in my doors. Say those days are gone.
I cancel, and then in forty eight hours you either
send me a box and a barcode right to shiit

(26:16):
my thing back to you, or I take it to
the local facility. I clap my hands and I go
Vegas blackjack dealer into the good night. Meanwhile, I've been
able to sign up for whatever streaming service in five
minutes on my laptop, on my phone, on my tablet,
whatever I have laying around. Oh, and I can stream
it to my oversized television through the apps process that

(26:41):
is already in every television that goes through your Costco, Walmart,
Target or retailer near you. All Right, it's the change
is there, and now it's just you look at the
cost and you know people are making their decisions and
how it bundles because it used to be, Hey, you

(27:01):
need the extra sports package, right, so I've got my
base at cable. But no, no, no, no, no, you're
gonna need these six channels and they'd be the extra
secondary ESPNS, maybe a couple of regional sports back you know,
the Fox regional networks and stuff that, you know.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
They I had the uh, the good.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
Opportunity to show my face during spring training on a
bunch of those years ago with Jeter and a Rod
in the background. I'll have you know Smith, I felt
really important. Oh nice, okay, yeah, No, that's how my
dad realized I actually had a job.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
Oh, they're gonna take it a Legends field. He gave
you a pass.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
You can come on the field, and these guys are
walking up and introducing themselves to him. That was That
was when I was finally no longer what the hell
is Mike doing with his life?

Speaker 1 (27:47):
No, look, your dad didn't your dad didn't say, how
much money did you have to spend to make these
people pretend to know you? How much? How much did
you waste on that? How much money?

Speaker 4 (27:56):
Now what I thought he was He did me a solid,
and maybe my mom asked him and he and he
made up number. But all of those days are gone.
Right now, It's all right, you go a la carte
for whatever whatever it is you love. Right in my house,
everybody loves live theater. So guess what I cut a
check figuratively speaking, for eleven bucks every month for Broadway HD,

(28:21):
a lot of plays, a lot of talks, and whatever else.
That's that's where we're at. You've got your Disney stuff
because you know you need to be able to watch
Ragnarok whenever you feel like it, or Star Wars, or
maybe maybe you just want to watch Frozen for the
one hundred times.

Speaker 3 (28:38):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (28:39):
But you go through and you pick your poison and
then you try to add it all together, and let's
face it, another eight bucks here, another ten bucks there
doesn't seem unreasonable unless you're someone who doesn't like sports
at all. Because when you're looking at ESPN, they're the
estimate is that it's about eight bucks per subscriber. There's

(29:00):
a lot of subscribers that are like, I'm never going
there unless it's by excident. And then you got everybody
else saying tap a vane man, I needed twenty four
to seven. Look, it's so it's trying to find that
happy medium in this next era of shakeup, not just
of college football but just sports in general.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
And I'll tell you where it's gonna be in five
The NFL deal is up in twenty thirty three, so
we have ten more years of television piece, Right, you're
still gonna see You're still gonna see different entities, right, angry, right,
But the TV deals have been signed so but so
it's not so much for the NFL. But in five years,

(29:39):
where I guarantee you this, In five years, we're gonna
be sitting saying, boy, remember the days when we could
just get basically every big game would be on national
would be on TV. And I say national TV, I
mean by just by having cable because you had ESPN
and FS one and everywhere else that had games, TBS
and PAC twelve to all these different things. Because in
five years, I guarantee you this college football is gonna

(30:00):
be four different tiers that you have to purchase to
watch the games. We have to watch the Big ten,
Big twelve, acc SEC right, and in the NBA those
rights are coming up in a year and a half.
You're gonna have to have ESPN and also ESPN for
college football and Fox Sports won for college football, and
then you talk about the NBA. You're gonna have Eastern

(30:21):
Conference package, Western Conference package, a package that ESPN's got,
that NBA TV had. You have to pay for those things.
In Major League Baseball, they may go to the whole
a la carte thing where it's, hey, you can buy
your one team. You buy your team for a whole year.
But if you want to see other big games, it's ESPN,
it's Fox, it's TBS. In five years, there's gonna be
so many different entities that you're gonna have to buy,

(30:43):
and your head's gonna spend and you're gonna have to
decide whether, Okay, do I want to spend all this money?
Do I want to have all four big time streaming
site and services for college football? Do you want to
have them all for the NBA? Do I want to do?
And there'll still be some game is on quote free TV.
It's loo going to get some games on network television.

(31:03):
That's not going away. But being able to watch your
team every week, forget it, Like that's that's completely out
the window. And we're gonna say it used to be
so easy. We had it so good for so long
We used to be able to turn on the TV
and know where the games were and watch them. And
then once we got into streaming, everything changed, and now
cable companies couldn't find a way to stay in business.

(31:24):
And now there's no more cable and and that's out
the window. And now it's a big free for all,
everybody for themselves. That's what we're gonna be in five years.

Speaker 4 (31:31):
Trusting well, we're already in the next iteration, the next
testing ground, right, that ESPN deal. So you got to
go to a movie theater if you want to watch
with your closest friend and family. How about some of that?

Speaker 1 (31:43):
Do I think? Now?

Speaker 3 (31:44):
The trailers for a bunch of Jason Stathan movies?

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Oh sure, sure? When is the game going to start?

Speaker 4 (31:49):
Now?

Speaker 1 (31:49):
You know the couple of trailers. Don't worry, you'll be
here's any minute now, free minute, any minute. Let's find
out what's trending right now in the wide world of
sports with special deliveries. Steve to saying, here has the.

Speaker 5 (32:00):
That's true about the college football and movie theaters.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Apparently with the.

Speaker 5 (32:03):
Playoffs that's been the case. Some ACC's they're gonna be
the case. You just need the Brent Musburger voice starting
the broadcast. Within a world, and then you've got hose
worlds coming together.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
Get a world on the Fontaine.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Let's get a world here on CBA.

Speaker 5 (32:19):
We've got the long weather delay continuing at Arizona State
and their season opener. They're ahead at halftime on Southern
Utah twenty one seven. There's a dust storm in temp
late first half. They made it to halftime before the
thunderstorm lightning delay. They're not even gonna have another update
for another few minutes, much less let the fans back
into the stadium. So yeah, long delay in timp UCF

(32:41):
on FS one be Kent State fifty six to six
Central Florida over seven hundred yards of offense. North Carolina
State won its game at Yukon twenty four to fourteen.
Quarterback Brennan Armstrong nineteen carries ninety six yards and two
touchdowns Missouri and Tulsa with home wins UAB and Wake
Forest as well. That UAB game was thirty five six

(33:02):
over North Carolina A and t the visitors passing just
two of eight sixteen yards passing for the game. Home
wins for Western Michigan and Georgia State are reminder. Friday
night on FS one, Michigan State host Central Michigan the
first Big Saturday of college football. This weekend, we'll have
Colorado at TCU on Fox TV. Tonight on Fox, Minnesota

(33:22):
scored ten points in the last three minutes to beat
Nebraska thirteen to ten on a forty seven yard field
goal on the final play. Nebraska on its last two
possessions fumble that led to a touchdown and then an
interception that led to the field goal. Nebraska quarterback Jeff
Simms did have ninety one yards rushing, but one touchdown, pass,
three interceptions and number fourteen. Utah led the Florida Gators

(33:44):

eleven the final. Utah's defense five sacks and the uthe
star quarterback Cam Rising is still out. He tore an
ACL last season. Tonight starter through a seventy yard touchdown
pass on the first offensive play of the season. Gator's
offense on third down conversions one for thirteen. Former Dallas
Cowboys executive Gil Brandt passed away at the age of

(34:06):
ninety one. He became a Hall of Famer in twenty nineteen.
NFL kickoff Weekend starts a week from tonight. By the way,
the Vikings gave tight end TJ. Hockinson a four year extension.
Ramstar wide receiver Cooper cup is day to day after
a setback with a strain and amstring. The Patriots claimed

he'll miss four games. Forty nine Ers tight end George
Kittle is missing practice this week with a groin injury.
The Colts hope running back Zach Moss will be ready
for Week one coming back from a broken arm. Chicago
signed quarterback Nathan Peterman. Baltimore signed quarterback Josh Johnson. Detroit
signed quarterback David Bloud to the practice squad, The Ram

(34:50):

Titans signed kicker Kade York to their practice squad. What
a ballgame at Dodger Stadium tonight, Atlanta with an eight
to seven win over l It was seven to one
Braves in the fifth inning. Ronald Lecunya with an early
grand slam his thirtieth home run. He also had his
sixty sixty second stolen base of the season tonight. Three

(35:10):
hits for him. The man who got married this morning,
Austin Riley with his thirty second homer. This is just
the start of the four game series. Atlanta beats a
Dodger team that did have a record this month of
twenty four and four until the loss this evening, the
l to Lance Lane, who gave up three early homers.
Mookie Bets did have two long balls for the Dodger

(35:31):
offense this month. As we are at the end of
August now, Mookie Betts had fifty one hits and thirty
RBIs and batted four to fifty five in the month
of August. At the US Open, victories for Americans Jessicapagula

one of the greatest toe tap catches any of us
have ever seen, and still we don't know how you
did it, Yeah, you get to be the play of
the night Calliakmanu's unfourth down waiting those to the end
zones got a man there, it's incomplete.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
No, he got a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (38:14):
Jackson got that back foot through dragging this tame open.
There was Minnesota Gophers Radio Network. A catch that I
still can't believe he made with his with his right
foot three feet over the out of bounds marker, He's
able to drag his left foot down somehow before his

(38:35):
foot comes down at the edge of the the red,
at the edge of the outside of the outer bounds
and unbelievable catch. Jackson. I still can't get over it, man,
I still can't get over it.

Speaker 4 (38:46):
Well, you know, I love the first headline if you
go and you search Daniel Jackson, right, because now it
becomes the hey, here's your star turn. We know about
the quarterbacks, we know about Hartman, we know everything there
is to know about Caleb Williams, and now we're watching
him in at Hamburger commercials with Matt Lioner and everything else.
But the first article that pops up from August fourteenth

(39:10):
breakout candidate Daniel Jackson over football. Let's talk about it,
talk about as a freshman trial by fire during the
COVID year and everything else, and where he's at in
the pecking order. There's a guy whose name is going
to be on everybody's you know, crossing everybody's lips tomorrow.
And as we get into the big previews for college football,

(39:31):
why because it also gave us a great moment for
Gus Johnson and the booth there to get our Fox
season kicked off, right.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Gus Johnson calling that game like it's Michigan Ohio State.
He was on it.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
Yeah, it was like it was Thanksgiving weekend winning time.

Speaker 1 (39:47):
No, I'll win today. Nebraska loses and still the place
of Nebraska in college football right now, it's it's very difficult.
It's they're a sports stonehenge or relic of a bygone era.
People don't understand. Nebraska used to be good. Yes, Nebraska
used to be it. They used to be everything in

(40:09):
college football, and they're not. Florida also has to understand
after tonight, listen, Billy Napier may or may not be great.
You're not the dominant dynasty you were fifteen years ago.
Those days are gone too. You got to adjust to
a new normal. Not quite in bad shape of Nebraska obviously,
but not going to be ripping off national championships all
the time. After they lose it tonight to Utah. Who oh,

(40:30):
by the way, is a pretty good team going for
the third straight back twelve championship.

Speaker 4 (40:33):
Yeah, they've won a couple of games. They got this
thing figured out. I checked in on some of my
Nebraska fans. Guess what what not a single one of
them return to text.

Speaker 1 (40:43):
I'm a little like my dad after a Yankee game.
With that pretty much I'll talk to you tomorrow, Dad,
Great for Mike Im Jason coming up next to my
buddy Ben Mallor. This is Fox Sports Radio.
