(01:05):
I am working tomorrow night Mike Carmen, that Arnie is
in on Wednesday Night with Mike Carmen and then you're
back on Friday with my Carmen crads. Hey we should
have done a remote. Can you imagine? Well, I don't
even know if I should joke about this, but please
don't get us canceled. Things have been going so well.
We're having fun on Sunday Nights shows. The Saga was
back last week. We got Fete working with us. Now
(01:27):
boast crushing, don't don't don't get us canceled. I'm just
outstarting to work with mnter where I can say your
name right, So I mean, don't canceled. You want to
do a show with there's a lot of people and crowd, No,
I don't like people. We should do it at an airport.
You gotta be careful because it's it's it's a specific airline.
(01:49):
I'm not talking about an airline. I'm just saying no, no, no,
there's a lot of people at the airport, but it's
a specific airline who's having the problem. So I didn't
want to give it. I saw one of the first
texts we got, I keep saying tests. One of the
first tweets we got to the show tonight with some
of that said, hey, my flight got canceled, so I'm
hanging with you, guys. I am. I'm preparing for a
(02:12):
bowl trip, right, I'm I'm covering Oklahoma and the cheese
At Bowl. Every time I turn on Fox Sports Radio,
it's all I hear people talking about is a cheese
At Bowl. So I'm pretty excited to get out there
for Oh you Florida State in there, right, I think
man's got it an all our updates, Oh you Florida
Snap Cheese Bowl. But literally guys trying to get out
of town that cover the beat, right. They had a
press conference this morning, Arnie, at ten am. Meanwhile, the
(02:34):
guys did write for the two major papers in our state,
and many of the radio and TV dudes they were
stuck in airports, so they literally had to rent cars
and drive from Orlando or excuse me, from Oklahoma City
or Tulsa to Orlando or or those covered the Oklahoma
State beat had a little shorter trip, Arnie. They had
(02:55):
to drive from Tulsa to Phoenix. And now, I know
that's a small that's a small thing for the uh
unred of thousands of people who have been just stuck
in airports. But hey, hopefully we can provide some fun.
I hope smart people figure this out, because I still
don't know what's going on. I mean literally, I've heard, oh,
it's understaffed. I've heard it's weather. I heard its antiquated
(03:17):
equipment at the airport. But whatever, I heard every single
excuse for this outside of hey, it's not you, it's
me that that's the only thing I haven't heard so far.
And you say it's just one airlines, but I heard
that one airport said they weren't gonna have any somebody
said they were not gonna have any flights out to
like the thirty first. I'm like, oh my goodness, man,
like I gotta get my car and drive to another
airport or something like that. This is one guy's like,
(03:37):
I'm stuck here. Willard said he was stuck on Christmas
up in Oakland at the airport for six hours with
his three kids. Can you imagine that six hours at
the airport with your three kids where he lives? Can't
he just drive home? I mean, isn't he from San Francisco?
That's too far, right. I don't know if maybe the
kids were coming back to Los Angeles and I don't know. Yeah,
(03:58):
I mean, gosh, already I was stuck for seven hours
in the Oklahoma City airport. It was crazy. I couldn't
get out of there. I mean it's like, yeah, get
in your car and drive home. I mean, come on, man,
But no, in all reality, it sucks. I hate it, especially,
you know, I was thinking about the mess just to
get down to Orlando and to try to get out
to l A. Can you imagine a family that's like
Mary Christmas, a little Laarnie span your uh happy Holidays,
(04:21):
Monter Bolongos, Uh Mary Christmas, alex Ty Shirt bo Bits,
We've got a surprise for you. We are taking you
a little eight year old bow Bins into disney World.
We're going to Disney World. And you get to the
airport and eight year old bow and and Ti Shirt
and and Monsey and and and a little five year
(04:42):
old Arnie. Well, their flight gets canceled. What the hell
do you do? Right? There's not a parenting guide for that.
So thoughts with those of you who are trying to
get around, hopefully via the I Heart radio app or
you've found an affiliate in the market where you're where
you're stuck. Suppose you were going on your honeymoon or
something like that, and just stuck in some place. Wouldn't
that be a sign? Like my friend got married, um
(05:06):
two days before nine or one day before nine eleven,
and then he took the fight out the next day.
He was in the air during the attacks and they
put the plane down from Chicago. They landed in Orlando,
and he was stuck in Orlando. I think it was
like with three days four days at the time, and
Disney went or excuse me be Disney World once things
(05:26):
started getting back to normal opened up, and he said
to his wife, he goes, you know, let's just go
to Disney World and see what happens. They went there
nine o'clock on the first day it opened back up.
They were the first person it lied, the very first
spot parking when they were there. Not too many people
were going to Disney World at the time, that's for sure. Yeah. No,
I would say, you probably get pretty good parking on
that front, right, you wouldn't have to be fined much crowds.
(05:49):
But I get traveling is a nightmare out there right now,
So be smart, I say, be patient. I'm sure patients
is running out, but uh again, I hope everyone arrives.
They need to be safely now we know there's some
breaking news throughout the day in the National Football League.
Nathaniel Hackett got fired, so the Broncos are currently in
the search for a new head coach. Week sixteen came
(06:11):
to went in with the Chargers winning and Monday Night
Football and guaranteeing a spot of the playoffs. And then Arnie,
we've spent a lot of tonight talking about TWA and
his injury. You heard Mike McDaniel earlier when we started
the show. I thought, oh, yeah, he's still gonna play.
But third time in the concussion protocol, Um, I guess
it won't hurt anything to play this again. Four hour show. Uh,
(06:32):
here's Mike McDaniel on to us concussion. I care very
deeply about each and every player. Um, I take that serious.
So you know, I just I just want him to
get healthy and have peace of mind in that regard,
and that's first and foremost, and then whatever those circumstances
are after, you deal with after. But it's about the
human being and making sure he's squared away. So I
(06:54):
play that again because that that sounds genuine, right, And
if that's the case, we're not seeing two on Sunday.
But if if it's not genuine, wouldn't he tell us
now that he's going ahead and not having to play
in the game. But he unless he wants to keep
it a secret and have the other team have to,
you know, manage for more than one quarterback, which could
be the reason. Or maybe he's just not a doctor
and he has to wait for the official medical word
(07:15):
on that. I'm not sure whatever it might be. I
don't know if we're gonna see two and now on Sunday.
So Bo's making sure we get the routes taken care of,
because Arnie's gonna have to quit his job and walk
from Vermont to l A to turn in his I
guess that would be a retirement papers. Because lookie here,
as Robert salis speaking of quarterback news, uh laid out
(07:37):
this week, Mike White is back and he's the starting
quarterback for the Jets. Right, did get clearance, so he
will be the starter. The second quarterback. Number two quarterback
will be Joe Flacco. There you go, so Zach Wilson
back down a third team and that guy they pulled
out of the Great Cup Parade in the fur jacket,
I guess goes back to the practice squad. But this
led me to this led me to one of those
(08:00):
nuggets had already put together for the show. And I
think this is good as we come to live in
the tire rack dot Com studio. Starter or not? Yea
or nay? You want to go down this list? Real,
QUI go ahead, who do you want to start with?
Zach Wilson. That's an easy one. He's not a starter.
He's not He's not even a second stringer. According to
the New York Jets. They don't even want him to
(08:21):
be backing up there, like, don't even get dressed. Go
ahead and have yourself a hot dog, and sit on
the sideline, watch yourself a good game and and enjoy.
They he's not a starter matter, He's not a starter
for anybody. There's nobody in the NFL right now saying, man,
if Zach Wilson is available, we've got to go ahead
and go after him. Nobody's even thinking about that. So
I who knows if you're even gonna be in the
(08:43):
NFL three years from now. Um, let's talk about with
the numbers that he's had, and he's had a lot
of good offensive numbers, and I know a lot has
to do with getting Tyreek kille and and obviously Waddle
in that. But he's a starter. At least he's a
start or from what we've seen up till now, I
think he needs another couple more years. So as long
(09:04):
as he's a starter for another couple more years, we'll
find out the truth. But if we're making the decision today,
but today's the show, he's a start up as the
offensive output that he's that he's had with the team.
Right now, did you see how you number these? You
can make this so confusing on me. Brock Purty, brock
pretty Iowa state legend, brock Purty, we don't have example
(09:25):
it size. I mean, we're going on with like three
games or something like that or what it's what we've
seen so far, and it's look pretty damn good. It
does look pretty damn good, good enough for me to say,
I don't think I want to keep Jimmy g around. Now.
If I had not seen brock Purty, I thought there
was a pretty good chance that Jimmy Garoppol was gonna
go in there. You stay um with the forty niners. Now,
after I see brock Purty, I'm thinking no way. A
(09:45):
matter of fact, after what I've seen Black Purty, there
may be a team or two that says, hey, I
wouldn't mind having this guy being my startup. I'm not
so sure, but I mean it's a possibility that another
team likes what they saw there, all right, Um, Russell Wilson, gosh,
you know, and and Kitty, I don't even think he
can be a backup, right Well, forget about the money.
(10:10):
The money aside, Okay, I mean you gotta be he's
gotta be the starter based on the money he's saving
me with the Shoan Mowatson. You're paying him so much money,
you gotta start him. But if we're just talking about
money aside, and he's making ten dollars an hour, is
this guy has started? Do you feel good about him
being a starting quarterback for your NFL team? I gotta
say no, one, Russell Wilson, based on what we saw
(10:30):
this year. Um, Now that that could change next year,
but I'm if you're throwing in the money, I'm gonna
move past him. If the money was a little bit
more palatable, then I'm gonna go figure out what he's
gonna do the next couple of years. But it's not
palatable it's it's through the roof. So you know, I
just I don't want this guy around. I don't think
(10:51):
he can get it done anymore. I think he's too old. Alright,
hold palatable, um uh stomach, Yeah, yeah like that. Yeah,
that's interesting analogy, but I like it all right. Uh,
we're rolling through a list of quarterbacks trying to determine
if they're still starters in the league or not. Now
literal Chris will point out that a handful of these
(11:12):
guys like Brock Purdy and Russell Wilson are currently starting
in the league, but he is always starting as of injury.
We're taking the long term view of this. Are you're
trying to tell me that Mr Irrelevant, who wasn't active
for half the games this year, wasn't groomed to be
the starting quarterback? Is that what you're trying to tell right?
What about DeShawn Watson? Again, based on what we saw?
(11:34):
Look with the money, though, I wouldn't want to touch
this guy with a ten football now for just talking
based on this, is this guy enough to you feel
confident that he could take you to a super Bowl
or deep into the playoffs? Not what I've seen so far.
Maybe what you saw down in and used them, but
certainly not what you've seen in Cleveland. I don't like
what I see at all with this, the Deshaun Watson
and Cleveland. I I wouldn't even want him back with
(11:55):
the money I'm paying him, but you don't have much
of a choice. So yeah, he's a starter. But not
liking what I see this year. I I have an
incredible and I don't know fear is the good word,
but uh, inclination. I think the Browns are gonna make
a move. I think they're gonna fire Kevin Stefanski. I
think they're gonna bring in a new head coach, and
(12:15):
I think they're gonna be really good next year. And
I think I think they're gonna be really good next year.
And that's gonna it's gonna be fascinating to see how
it's handled. Because I listen, I'm I'm still in shock,
Arnie sometimes when I look up, thinking about all of
our conversations on this show and others about what a
suspension should look like for DeShawn Watson, I still find
(12:38):
it surprising that I'm watching him playing the NFL and uh, listen,
I feel how you want about Bemani Jones. But his
show went out to the Cleveland Browns tailgates and we're
talking to the fans about DeShawn Watson, and apparently it's
pretty eye opening for how quickly he's been forgiven in Cleveland.
But I just I get this sense that they're gonna
be pretty damn good next year. And I again, I'm
(13:00):
not someone that's bought in on them very much, but
I watched him last week and he's starting to see
some things for DeShawn Watson. Would you say the same
thing of Picker Mayfield was still on the team though, Well,
I mean, I don't know what, I don't know. How
could you say that if he plays like he did
against the Rams on every day? Yes, yes, absolutely, Because
Baker Mayfield is like rejuvenated his career based on like
(13:21):
two games. There's people that you're gonna want. This got
to be a starter. But so with that in mind,
I think DeShawn Watson slammed up Cans down a starter.
How do they get showed? With all the teams that
were the mix, It wasn't just the Cleveland Browns and
New Orleans wanted him, Atlanta wanted him here. I think
he's still a start, all right. I don't want to
get bogged down there, mac Jones. You don't believe he's
a starter. I'm not a mac Jones fan anymore. I
(13:43):
thought maybe when he was coming into the league that
this guy was going to show something coming from Alabama
and all that. But um, I mean, he's just too
plain for me. There's nothing there. There's no wow factor.
There's there's nothing. There's no big numbers, no big offensive numbers.
I just get just playing industrian. I get nothing out
of him. Can we up? Can we hold that clipboat
(14:03):
for Sunday night? Whenever mac Jones goes for three fifty
and two tugs against the offense, quit my job if
that happens. Stop you. You can't quit your job every
single time on a prediction. We gotta come up with
some new steaks for you or something here, aren'tie? Um?
Derek Carr is a start in the league. I don't
know why you put his name down? What about means?
I put his name down because if he leaves Las Vegas,
(14:26):
what other teams are gonna gi him a chance? And yes,
I think there's a I think there's some teams. I
would say I would like Derek Carr, but not as
much as you're probably thinking. I would say there'll be
thirteen teams that will be in the mix for a
quarterback this year, and I would say twelve of those
thirteen teams would be interested in Derek Carr. Wow. I mean,
unless you're gonna go out and splurge on Lamar Jackson,
(14:49):
I mean, no, one's really losing their mind about the
quarterback class. You're not gonna have to break the bank
on a contract for him. I mean, I I just
I think the Raider you're making a grave mistake with
this decision going forward. What about Daniel Jones, you know, No,
he's not a start. I've I think we've given him
(15:10):
enough time, right, I mean, this is a year five
or what four? And um, enough is enough. He never
really progressed. But it's not really all his fault. He's
gone through some coaches, he's gone through injuries a se
Kwon Barkley. Um, they had to go ahead and get
themselves some receivers. There's been injuries there. Also. They're not
the best franchise. I mean they've had some growing pains.
(15:30):
Some I like the way he you know, does a
few things but I'm not sold on him. I'm not
so sure I'm gonna go out and make him my starter. Uh.
Fourth season for Daniel Jones, and this is the only
year so far in which he started every single game.
And in fairness, they do have a winning record. But uh,
in fairness, winning record, best best numbers he's he's had
(15:53):
in his career. If it's not the Giants, though, I'm
with you. I don't think anyone's gonna go out and
break the bank for him. All Right, two more quick
ones here, then we'll grab a break. Well, actually three
Jordan's love. If we're going just the last game, I'm like, oh,
I gotta go ahead and see some more. I don't
think he is, though. I think if the Packers thought
he was gonna be the star, they would have figured
out how to move on from Aaron Rodgers by then.
(16:14):
Though that could have been easier said than done. I
would I would just have to say no right now.
I mean I have the small sample size I would
say no. Jimmy Garoppolo, Yeah, he's a starter. I mean
he could take your team to the super Bowl. I
gotta say yes on that. Would you be happy if
Jimmy g was a Dolphin next year, No, I would
not be. No, don't give me Jimmy j Man. You're
(16:35):
seen there like, oh yeah, no, no he started to
take you to the super Bowl. Oh so would you
like me to No, No, I don't want him here. Okay.
Then one final on Baker Mayfield. You have on this list? Starter?
Yeah or nay? Going in the next year Mayfield that
played against Denver? Yes, I like that. How about that? Well,
I it's you can't just get a magical performance every time. Yeah,
(16:59):
I do. I still think he's a starter. I'm not
ready to give up on I'm quite just yet, but
I am you know, I am hesitant about that. Can
I make a prediction. I think Baker Mayfield is gonna
be the starting quarterback for the Raiders next year. I
think I think that the Raiders are gonna move on
from Derek Carr. I think Josh McDaniels is going to
(17:20):
draft a quarterback and I think they'll make a play
at a Well, I don't assume that Baker is gonna
get a twenty million dollar contract this offseason, and I
think the Raider is gonna bring in Baker Mayfield. And
if that's not the move. I think Sean McVeigh might
pay to keep him around as a backup, make him
a pretty high price backup, because he's looked pretty uncomfortable
(17:41):
on the money. Right, well, no, what's his contract next year?
Eight million for a backup? I mean he doesn't have
a contract for next year, by the way, seven eight
million for a backup? You want to go cheap. Look
how that's gonna go for your Dolphins this weekend? Right,
Look how that's going for the Patriots when they had
to put in freaking Bailey za beat against the Bears
and got beat a hundred and six to nothing. You've
(18:02):
got to invest in your backup quarterback, Arnie. Look what
just out of the Rams this year? Right right now?
You know it's to the point now it's not really
even a backup. I think starters only go about now
that the seventeen games, and who knows when we're gonna
get an eighteen maybe starting quarterbacks only like in the
fourteen the fifteen rage, little load management for quarterbacks. Now
load of management for quarterbacks. Holy smokes, you're trying to
(18:24):
change the game here. On a Monday night on Fox
Sports Radio, be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm
Eastern seven pm Pacific. Alright, it's Arny and Plank and
for Jason and Mike here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm
back tomorrow night. I get to uh, I guess I
get to like ride co pilot. That's weird. That's hard
(18:46):
for me, even you said. So. I drove this week
by the Arnie's in Wednesday and Friday with Mike. I
drove this week all week. We we took a family vacation.
Drove through the snow and the wind and the rain sucked. Um,
but I drove the whole week and safe. It was fun.
It was fine. People are idiots and don't know how
to drive on the road, but I digress. I I
(19:07):
actually was riding today with my like my wife drove, dude.
I was so uncomfortable. So and again I share driving.
Are you the are you the driver? And the family Arnie,
I want that. I don't like to drive when my
my son's driving and my my my phoe. No no, no, no, okay,
I'm the same way right, But my my wife is
(19:30):
very much Hey, I like to drive, so I want
to drive too, So we try to balance it. But
I guess I d never realized how much I truly
don't like being a passenger until I had to ride
around town today. How do you handle this? Are you
allowed to drink in a car when someone else is driving?
Or brown upon man? Whatever it is, it was just
(19:51):
not good. I needed something. But if you're driving around,
thanks for listening to us. We're pumped to have you.
And if you're stuck in any travel issues, gosh, patients
is the only thing we can say. And I hope
they get things worked out for you. Now. A couple
of tweets before we get to our final update from
uh here's one that I like a lot. This is
(20:13):
from clug. You're right, Arnie, and we can't let load
of management happen. Thank you. The bad football, no preseason,
bad first twelve games, then suddenly when the playoffs are said,
second string quarterback play until the playoffs. Oh my god,
that'd be bad. Boys. Yeah, we lose our minds when
(20:34):
it's one week, right. I did say at the end
of the year, you know, you may want to use
your load management quarterback, like after a Sunday night game
and you got a Thursday there. If that does happen.
I don't even know if that happens or Sunday when
you have to go to a Thursday, UM, and then
you don't want to go and have your starter go
through uh. You know that short of a turnaround, maybe
you're using something like that. UM, it's going to happen.
(20:56):
And by the way, have you ever seen a bigger
uh gap between starting quarterbacks and second string quarterbacks than
any other position around in any other sport? I mean
even first string running back to the second running backs
are not that bad offensive lineman, um kickers. It's what
a gap it is between starters and second stringer as well.
(21:18):
You know, it's kind of funny. I know Jon Gruden
deserves all the ridicule on the planet, but there was
one thing that he did, and I've become even more
and more of a believer in it. You got to
invest in your backup quarterback. I mean, I get it.
It's the most expensive position in the NFL. You're spending
thirty million year on a quarterback, so why should you
(21:39):
have to invest in anymore? Well, we've realized just how
important they are, you know. I I'm sure we're getting
to the time whenever you're gonna get a backup quarterback
making ten million year. I mean, I can just sense
it coming some more. More quarterbacks are getting hurt and
missing games, and we do more more than ever to
protect them. I mean, really, it's it's changed than back
(22:01):
into Terry Bradshaw DAIDs, and it seemed like those guys
never missed games. I don't know, it just seemed they
toughed it out more. I don't know what it is.
I don't know if it's they toughed it out more
or we just didn't realize how hurt they really were.
I think I think maybe part of it was like
they're not silly, and by the time they got home,
they were able to recover, and you know, get that
a big old Hamburger roady recovery. Maybe a cold michelob
(22:23):
or whatever it might be. So yeah, I just I
think that we're a little bit more aware and maybe
sometimes too aware. Mr Mallard Wrights Russell Wilson ended his
own career the moment he turned bad guy and decided
a wage war on Seattle just to steal millions from
Denver while intentionally being very underwhelming. So I would like
(22:47):
to believe the Russell Wilson isn't doing this on purpose,
as Mr Mallett claims here on Twitter. But I feel
like we're about a year removed right from that article
that came out in The Athletic that talked about always
it's dysfunctional and he's mad about the quarterback coach that
they hired. I mean, we're not even a year removed
from that army. And look at the one eighty on
(23:09):
how most people perceived that article when it came out. Oh,
he's the bad guy now, No, if fans are much
about it, he's the bad guy because he's making a
lot of money. And look at the mess that they
have there in Denver Um. Not only they're playing bad,
they're maybe like one of the worst two or three
teams in the NFL. So yeah, there's no doubt about it, Chris,
he's the bad guy. And I don't know if you
can turn it around. I don't think they can get
(23:30):
enough players for him to, you know, turn around right away.
It's it's a mess right now. And from the k
C how it's or the Chiefs one their seventh a
f C West title in a row. Do you think
any of the national media personality so we're incredibly wrong
about the Chiefs will eat Crow. They owe the people
in apology for such horrible takes preseason wise horrible. I
(23:51):
don't think I was one of those people, wouldn't I.
I don't think I let you. I think you try to.
And I think we kind of fought over it, and
I said, we've been down this road before. The Chiefs
have won this division six straight times. Patrick Mahomes is
still there, Arenie, you can't pick against them. I think
I might have changed your mind. Yeah, but everybody was
picking the charges to everybody they watch off of the
(24:11):
Chargers there. This is the team there, this is their year,
this is their time. They're gonna shine. Watch out what
if they get hot and go to the stinking super Bowl?
Oh my gosh, uh Casey, that's gonna be a long
wait for apologies. And listen, man, why do you care?
I don't need the approval of of you people in
(24:31):
order to enjoy where my team's success or lack of
success is. In fact, whenever everyone is telling me how
good my squad is going to be, it scares me
because y'all are right very often. So yeah, I wouldn't
worry about it. And I knew that the Dolphins were
gonna lose when everybody picked the Packers. I've excuse me.
When everybody picked the Dolphins, it was like, Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami.
(24:53):
Ya that we're gonna lose, Packers are gonna win. So
is that why you said on Sunday Night you guarantee
that they're gonna beat the Packers whenever you knew or
was it just the process that you went through where
you realized, oh bleep, everyone else is picking this team
had a big trouble. All right. I got a few
more your tweets postgame audio coming up. Be sure to
(25:16):

I was ready to roll. Man, let's go. What time
were you ont was it this time? Oh? When I
was in Uh yeah it was. I did well. I started.
I was Afternoon Drive my first my first shift, I
was between Bill mad Dog Matlock from the Old Baseball Player.
(26:01):
Remember the Third base night? Is that right? Third Baseman? Yes, Cubs, Pirates, Dodgers. Yeah,
all those uh like three or four times radio. Yeah,
he was. He was a funny guy. It was good.
And then after me was Pete Rose. Yeah, this is
like my second weekend radio. About that. I wouldn't even
(26:23):
know what to do. Yeah, I didn't know what to do.
Believe you had no idea what was going on? Did
someone tweeked this clip or something that I missed this
night from you in the newly Wed game? Everybody up? Yeah,
somebody put it up on Twitter, but it's on YouTube.
If you just put Arnie in best spanning, you can
watch the whole show, as is Arnie's appearance in his
movie that you can find on YouTube as well. But
(26:44):

Big green egg dot com. Right, a couple more tweets
before we get out of here. It's been really good
tonight on Twitter dot com. Um, here's the one for
Jamie he Rights. The only time Sean Payton won anything
was when he had a pay for play defense. I
(27:28):
think that's a shot at bounty gay. Um, I like that.
I like that, Nature Boy, the Stinking Jeans uh In
three two one English, the Stinking Geniuses dog is sitting
next to the phone waiting to see if Denver needs
him already true or false? You could be the next
head coach of the Broncos. Yeah, that's that's gonna be
(27:49):
a little bit false out there, though. You never know.
If I was friends with the owner, you never know
who gets hired nowadays. I'm you know, we said that
all I said that Sean Payton was the I thought
was gonna be the front runner you said was four
to one. I may go back on that. After he
even told me he was the favorite of four to one,
I'm like, well, there could be other jobs he'd be interested, um,
and maybe he's just waiting to see if those become open,
(28:10):
or we'll see what happens. I think this year is
a feeling out process for Sean Payton, right. I think
this year is the alright, what what might be out there? Right?
And I think the quarterback class is a lot like
it this year, aren'ty' I'm not trying to reach I
think too much here, but maybe that big job for
(28:30):
Sean Payton that he truly wants, right, if it's the Chargers,
if it's the Cowboys, if it's I don't know, the Raiders,
whatever it might be for Sean Payton, if it's going
back to the Saints, right, which which I guess is possible,
maybe he takes a year to where he said, hey,
I'm kind of missing it a little bit. He sees
the offers come in, but it's not really what he wants, right,
(28:52):
so he waits. You know, maybe Mike mccarthield fall apart
quarterback wise, Troy Seattle places where you just actually assume
they want a quarterback. They might look at it and say,
all right, let's show up the defense because things go
south next year. That might be two of the most
baallyhood quarterbacks coming out in quite a while, right in
(29:14):
Caleb Williams and Drake may So. I don't know, I
just I kind of see that being a fair maybe
comparison between Sean Payton being interested but also in that
same vein saying all right, I'm gonna I'm gonna take
my time, I'm gonna wait a little bit here. Maybe
that could be the same thing you see with quarterbacks
and and maybe not necessarily quarterback needy teams, but teams
(29:34):
that would typically draft a quarterback. And I don't think
he is. I think he is gonna come back this year.
You mention this year. I think it's that you mentioned
the three. I could see another seven um popping open
one way or the other. That's gonna be ten um
maybe even more than that. If I'm him, I would
want to get back in there. And you know one
thing about him, I don't think he's looking to go
(29:54):
to a place where you go, wow, I want to
go there it's nice weather or it's a great place
to retire. He care, he's just gonna He's just gonna. No,
I didn't say you said that. I think he's just
gonna go. He go to a place for two or
three years and then see what he can do, and
he'll go to retire wherever he wants to go. And
don't make it him if he's coaching in New York City, LA,
don't make a difference them at all. I guess the
(30:16):
part of me is he's retired now and he doesn't
seem to like it. I mean, it seems like in
every turn he's letting you know how he'd much rather
be coaching right now. So maybe you're onto something with this.
All right, before we take our final break, let's play
that game. Carolina, colts Denver are open. All right? You
said you think as many as seven seven more after that?
(30:40):
So ten vacancies? Is that too many? Um? Or well, well,
let's let's go through him. I'm a little bit flabberg acid. Arizona, right,
Arizona could be one. I would I would certainly think
that that would be well, if you're gonna have ten
vacancies in the NFL, and Arizona isn't one of them? Well, no,
I would put the number that's at them in there,
(31:01):
So that's not for um take a look at Uh.
Let's say, you know, the Saints could be a number five,
and that's pretty much in the NF Seattle about Dallas too.
If Dallas is there, then then there's six if. But
that's kind of a long shot, wouldn't you think that?
Uh if? Even if they did lose in the first roundnuts,
So sure that I gave I gave you a list
(31:22):
of of eight teams that you st all over earlier
for potential shocks and in long shots for firings at Dallas,
New Orleans, Seattle, Washington, UH, the Chargers, Las Vegas, the
Titans in Miami. I took the Chargers off since they
made the playoffs and had potentials in Arizona, and the
Browns and as far as odds are concerned, the according
(31:44):
to who is this to make sure I get proper
credit sports betting dot ag uh, Cliff Kingsbury's wanted seven
to get fired three to one, Josh McDaniels five to one,
Dennis Allen seven to one, Kevis Stefanski eight to one.
And there is a team on here, Arnie that I
didn't include that fascinating eight to one odds. Todd Bowles,
we'll be fired before he game one of the playoffs.
(32:07):
There's like a grand SLAMMI over under run coaches getting fired.
How many they're gonna be? What number? We just set
that at that because if you if your thought ten
was too much, what number you say? Six? So three
more with the three that we've had so far, I
think I said it at six. And let me explain why.
When we come back, we got one more segment before
Big Ben Mallard takes over. We'll talk coaching moves on
(32:28):
this day. The Broncos fired Nathaniel Hackett to h questionable
for Sunday, and the Chargers are headed to the playoffs.
We're sitting for Jason and Mike. It's aardi in Plank
on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Final segment for US.

they'll be available as soon as we're done. On the

I heard radio. Whatever you use, uh will, We'll be
there so check it out. Also, Alex ti Shirt awesome
as always on the Life Coaching Guidance Perspective Animal That's
(33:16):
what we do. Man was amazing on updates and a
lot of audio that I never got to but Big
Ben Mallard will have it all coming up next here
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, So, oh your picks,
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Artie, I almost forgot your picks
to wrap the show up. So before I pay off
my tease, why six stinking genius take it away? On
(33:37):
a big week ahead of us, Well, we gotta do
the semifinals of course coming up this week in in
college football. I mean we kind of forgot about that
with all these great bowl games going on. Michigan minus
seven and a half against TCU missual. You're gonna win
this game by three touchdowns. Um, I don't know why
I haven't sold my house and put the whole thing
on Michigan. Why is this number not going up to
(33:59):
like nah or ten? I can't believe the money's not
come in on Michigan like crazy. So give me Michigan
minus the seven and a half, and I'm gonna take
Georgia minus the six and a half on something that
magic number of seven against Ohio State. Not as confident
in this one as I am in the Michigan game,
but uh yeah, definitely do like it. So give me
(34:20):
Georgia lay in the sixth hal. I don't think Ohio
State the way their defense is, Georgia should have a
field day in that. All right, let's get to some
NFL on a Sunday. You know I'm gonna stick. I'm
sticking with my Dolphins. I don't care whose quarterback, Teddy
b makes no difference Skylar Thompson, who cares. I think
(34:41):
it still could be two though, and now the line
has changed. It used to be the Dolphins where a
two and a half point favorite. Not anymore. They're now
a one and a half point underdog. So give me
the points, give me the Dolphins plus the one and
a half in that one. I love the Detroit Lions
away in even half against the Bears. Think the Lions
(35:02):
get back on track. Tough loss last week, they win this,
They win this game. Also like the Commanders lay into
and half at home against the Cleveland Browns. Um. There's
still obviously, of course, fighting out for that last playoffs spot,
so I think they get the win there. It's kind
of like the Living against the dead. And my pick
of the lifetime, I mean cheese. I wish I could
(35:24):
sell everything and put it on the cans A City Chiefs,
my friend ten points. Now it's up the thirteen and
a half though against the Denver Broncos, and then they
should win by four touchdowns. Give me the Chiefs in
that one. So there you have my picks, two of them.
You please no longer strictly for entertainment purposes. Only it
wasn't it was? It was it four touchdowns, five touchdowns,
(35:47):
the rams being advice. So that one makes sense, and
I wouldn't disagree with that right now. But pick of
the century, So is this bigger than your they said
bigger than your pick of the decade? Right, It's much
bigger than ten times bigger than the right So I
mentioned I would set the over under for coaching changes
at six this offseason. And here's why I don't think
(36:11):
and and this could be d f W dead bleeping wrong,
but at my core. I don't think you're gonna see
the Texans make a change. I don't think the Buccaneers
are gonna punt on Todd Bowles after one year. I mean,
Mark Davis is said he's sticking with Josh McDaniels. I
don't feel like that Ron Rivera is gonna walk away
with new ownership coming up in Washington. And I sure
(36:33):
don't think that Mike Rabel is gonna leave the Tennessee Titans,
so that that would leave of those shocker slash questionable
teams really only one or two. So I think the
Browns are gonna make a move, Artie, but I think
we're looking at an over under of six. We'll talk
about it more coming up to All Night. You'll take
the over Big Ben Mallard's coming up next. Have a
(36:55):
great rest of your Monday, Fox Sports Radio.
