Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight to Jason Smith Show with.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
My base friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Easy Chewy live Fromthetirack dot com studios.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Tyrec dot com. I hope you get there.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection
at over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrac dot com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, we got two
big NFL stories coming, two quarterbacks in the news for many.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Different reasons today.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
One I'm really nervous about, but obviously the big marquee
moment of the day, the big game of the day.
We watched the men's basketball team blowout South Sudan. Albeit
we probably wanted to see them win a little bit
more dominantly, but there, you know, look, they didn't cover
the twenty nine and a half, but also they didn't
need Lebron James layup to bail them out. And the

(01:23):
story coming into this one was who was not going
to play. Jason Tatum didn't play in the first game.
It became wildfire. Tatum started this game, and we told
you last night, right, if.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
You listened to the last hour of the show last.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Night, you know, basically I'm the shadow coach of Team
USA because I told you Jason Tatum would play in
this game. He would play early, and the DNP was
going to be Joel Embiid because it just made sense.
He was a guy that you could tell what's going
on is not fitting. His minutes were down to eleven.
You can see when he talks about Team USA, he

(01:56):
just seems a little bit detached. His style of play
doesn't work all the things we've talked about for a while.
He was going to be the DNPCD and it was
going to be the combo of Adebayo and Anthony Davis
were going to take up the slack and Ad would start.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
What happened today, Jason Tatum played.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
He started early, Anthony Davis started, and Joel Embiid was
a DNPCD. I in the shadow coach Mike Harmon of
the US men's national team, You want to know something
you asked me, because I'll give you all the answers.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Well, I mean, we did break down this game quite
a bit go and we were given a gift and
that they just played South Sudan, so we knew how
they matched up. South Sudan wants to get out and run.
They want to stretch the court and make you get
up and down, hopefully trip over your own tongue, open
up some wide open three point and look, they've done

(02:44):
a good job what Louel Dang and his team have built.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Pretty solid, consistent efforts.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Some scare moments, right, you had a big margin, but
there were a couple of moments where it's like, all right,
this is getting interesting because they're starting to get up
and down the court. They're hitting some three point shots.
State you can count on them to get a little
lax with the basketball at times. We still have seen that.
Can turnovers continue to be an issue. Steph Curry's not
hitting the broadside of the barn. Jason Tatum, after all

(03:10):
of the consternation, had a whole four points in his minutes.
So all of it to say that you had a
bit of a blueprint that meant the lumbering Joel Embiid,
whether he's hurt, whether it's just hey, that's his style
of play that does not work in your feeble world.
It worked out pretty well for what we discussed last night,

(03:31):
So good job by us and for you. It was
a fantastic promo that really should have run instead of
opinions on other shows.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
I'm telling you, man, I'm the shadow coach. It's like
Steve Kirk calls me and said, Jason, what do I do?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Man?

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Hey, Steve, I'm glad you called me. I have this
for you right now. Here's what you should do. Here's
what you need to do right now. Well, it just
made sense. Look, it's a little bout the Embiid backlash.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
I mean, look, he'd have to be living in a
you know, have thrown his phone out and he'd be
living at the bottom of the same I to have
not heard all of the cacophony of voices shouting the
beat can't play? Why are you behold of them? How
much did he get paid to show up?

Speaker 3 (04:12):
What did you do? What kind of deal with the
devil did you make. But look here, here's the real takeaway.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Right where you should be for Team USA basketball. The
Jason Tatum, the who plays and who doesn't is it's
a completely made up controversy. Sure, because Team USA is
playing better. Let me talk to Mark steins now. He said, listen,
the chemistry is getting better. Team USA is playing better.

(04:38):
It's happening, yes, and yes it is. Team USA is
going to win the gold medal. Right, It's just it's
just a little bit harder every Olympics because the other
countries are better. I mean, France in four years, good luck.
Although France will have the hometown officiating, so good luck,
but France and four years, look, it becomes more difficult because, yes,
the teams are getting better. And whether it's a complete

(05:03):
disavowment or disinclination to want to play the feebaway. You
still see players in the NBA, all the big NBA
stars that get lost on defense, give up too many threes.
Whether we just can't or won't adjust to the best
way to attack the Olympics and feedb with the games
being shorter, the longer pace, the hitting of threes, we

(05:24):
still struggle, right, we still struggle a little bit. Even
though we have the best players in the world. These
players have been playing together for longer times, they're better
into the international rules.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
It's just a little bit harder. But we're going to win.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
And when this Jason Tatum story come up, but like, boy,
this is embarrassing field bad for him. And then it
became suddenly like this was the only story. And I
get it because there's not a lot of drama because
the United States wins. Right, if we lose, then everything changes, right,
But you're gonna have people not play, You're gonna have
people sit, and it's gonna be it's gonna be upsetting

(06:00):
a little bit. It's going to happen. But as long
as we're winning and players aren't complaining, no one said
any even Joel Embiid hasn't said anything yet. Jason Tatum
didn't go to the press and talk about how how
awfold Steve Kerr is and this is tearing the team apart. No,
they pretty much understand. This is how it goes in
the Olympics. You want to play next time, don't play,
they get playing time, don't play. It doesn't matter. But

(06:23):
there's nothing happening. There's no controversy. The United States is winning.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
They are looking.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Better and better in every game. They're picking things up
a little bit more. I'd like to see them pick
it up defensively a little bit and and if I'm
nitpicking here, pick it up defensively, which they need to.
And let's have a couple less possessions that look like
a possession from an All Star game where someone just
dribbles the ball to the court and says, I'm gonna
take a thirty five foot or why I feel like it.
I'm open, I'll take it like. We still get to

(06:49):
that once in a while. And it's this is not
an All Star game. I know we have all the
All stars out there, but this is not one of those. Hey,
let me see what I could do here. Let me
let me try to throw this behind the back paths
into the corner. No, this is the Olympics, right, it
goes the other way and the other team hits a three.
So that's kind of the only stuff I could say
I could see out of the US men's team. But
you need drama, right, we need drama because oh it's

(07:09):
the men's team. Now, I'm sorry, this is kind of
how it goes it just gets a little bit more
difficult with every Olympics because the teams get better. But
as long as we're winning, this is made up. I
guarantee you in in France and if you're around the team,
you know, look, is Jason Tatum happy?

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Of course not. Does he look at social.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Media and go, oh man, they are just killing me
back Diy Campbell, I'm glad I'm over here.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
But is this something that the team deals with every
day that's ripping the team apart?

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Of course not.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
If they did, you would see them playing worse as
time went on. You would see less players being involved
and and coming up with big efforts, as we've seen
the last couple of days. You'd be able to tell.
But it's not. This is kind of a made up thing,
just because well, what's the drama. Jason Tatum didn't play,
doesn't matter. Jason Tatum didn't play, doesn't matter. Joellen b
didn't play, even though he's probably the right d PCD

(08:00):
because his style of play is no good.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
We told him in the beginning.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Joel Embid's style of Hey, I'm gonna get the ball
and get to the free throw line and take on defenders.
One on three. That wasn't gonna work. Congratulations, here we are.
I could have told Steve Kerr that before he played
Joel Embid in all those minutes. But someone's not gonna play,
and it's gonna be somebody different every game, most likely
because Steve Kerr is gonna spread the wealth.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
And that's kind of how it goes.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
That's just how it's gonna And as long as we're winning,
it doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
It doesn't matter who plays. It doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
If Tom Tibodaut was coaching this team and he's playing
his five favorite guys forty minutes and Lebron and Kadi
and Stepford sitting on the bench and they're like saying,
we're not getting the game. It's TIBs. I keep looking
up at Tims. Won't look over at me. He's not
gonna put me in the game. Oh now AD's coming out.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
He's not. He's only gonna play four minutes.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
As long as we're winning, and we're winning big, it
doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
And that's the thing that everybody's got to get used to.
But it's no. We have to have some kind of
dram Look.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
We'll tell when there's drawn when it comes up, It
comes up right, But this whole thing all of a sudden,
it was Jason tay m didn't play it's wow. Really well,
we got to have something because what else are we
going to talk about? Believe me, this is an overblown controversy.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
Yeah, it's like being invited to be part of an
all star assembly of a movie and then you get
left on the cutting room floor and you find out
even after you watch the red carpet, after the opening
credits and roles, my scene should be coming, and then
it doesn't. It doesn't show up. You know who is
just mad about that? I saw the other day that

(09:30):
is putting a torpedo in their career. Many jacinto Jason
from the place. Dude, if Blake Bortles is able to
he he.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Really went after it.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
He was really upset that his part got cut out
of Top Gun Maverick and the big quote he had
as well, Tom Cruise makes movies for Tom Cruise.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
I'm like, dude, what do you do? You just you
saying the end of your career right there.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Because he was upset that he filmed scenes but he
wound up just having a couple of walk ons.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
He wanted to be in toime.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Look, obviously he saw Glenn Powell became a star and
Miles te became a bigger star, and it's happening for everybody.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Tom Cruise makes movies for Tom Cruise. Dude, what are
you doing?

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Man?

Speaker 3 (10:05):
What do you do? Do you really not want to
be in another movie? Ever?

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Like, of course Tom Cruise is the biggest movie star
in the planet of the last forty years. You were
in the movie. It happens, you got cut out. It stinks,
but really, like you can be upset about it, but
complaining about it is just gonna hurt you.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
I don't understand.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
Yeah, the bigger thing there was he was trying to
make a larger point about representation, making movies, you know,
within a culture whatever, and getting exposure. But he didn't
do that upfront and called out the Cruise machine had word.
I was thinking of another blockbuster that's gonna be a
billion dollar movie here in a couple of days, and
a certain friend of one of its stars was lamenting

(10:45):
the fact that he ended up on the cutting room floor.
But the same thing here is that you don't get
minutes you recognize it's still good for the brand, it's
good for the back of the basketball card, as we
like to say on the show, Olympic Champion associated with
the Everything Good America brand, Right, that kind of thing
that that puts extra dollars in your pocket. From Madison

(11:08):
Avenue and all of the card shows that you'll go to,
all the cards you'll sign for Panini and Tops and
whoever else fanatics going forward the big shows, you'll go to,
all the inscriptions, you sign everything else. It's a money machine.
So the smart thing is to just nod and just say, hey,
you know what, I just got to be ready when
it's my turn. Right, That's the a the adult thing

(11:31):
to do. But be pragmatic for business purposes. And this
is for all of us in our industry, all of this,
no matter what your business is. Listening globally on the
iHeartRadio app or the local stations here in the US,
we appreciate you, we love you.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
It's the same thing.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
You figure out where you fit and you nod and
you say, okay, next up and find your opportunities. And
that's what Jason Tatum, you know, I got to say
when he went through the it's humbling.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
It's good to hear it.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
I don't know that he needed to be a sad
seck because I really pictured a guy with a violin
standing behind him as he made that statement. But that's okay,
and Joel embiid it fuels the fire for people in
our industry that have a liking problem with him. You
know they don't, So you've got that going for you.
But in terms of what it means for the team overall, No,

(12:22):
Lebron's playing at.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
A high level.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
Steph will eventually hit a shot. Kevin Durants the happiest
he's bins since the day.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
He entered the NBA.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
He's skipping around like a school kid with every jumper
he hits. So yeah, it's managing ego. Steve Kerr is
the right guy and they just have to coexist for
another two weeks. But in the interim, we have to
In the interim, we have to create stories, right, and
that's the thing we do. Look at the Chiefs last year, right,
who's gonna beat him? I don't know, but week to

(12:51):
week it didn't look pretty. So what do we talk
about what's going on week to week? But you still
had the caveat of all, right, come playoff time, I
still don't want anybody else under center right, same thing.
Here might be some warts. It may not be pretty
in a couple of possessions. Maybe it get a little
bit streaky defensively and gamble, or get a little bit lazy,
so a couple of wide open threes. But in the

(13:12):
end they still win by double digits time and again.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Exit out about a fresca exit swollen down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon live from
the tirech dot Com studios.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Just to understand this whole thing.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Who plays who doesn't is not unless unless Steph Curry
is the guy that doesn't play in the next game
was bad today, then it's a thing.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Then it would be a thing.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
You don't get to shoot your well because he's got
to coexist with him beyond two weeks.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Yeah, yeah, unless. Oh but here's the thing. This is
where Steve Kirk could have put all this to bed.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Right.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
I get that, look, I'm gonna start, Jason Taitta, I
don't want to deal with this crap.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
I'm gonna start it. Mo're moving on.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
But what if he did this first game he sits
Steph the entire game, and and he says and because
then he consists sit there and tell any other player,
I just sat my guy I won four championships with
for the entire game.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
I can sit anybody I.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Walked to and no one else can complain, And that
would have taken care of it. It's like a youth
coach saying, hey, I coach a team with my kid
on it, and I'm gonna sit in my kid for
the entire first game. So now the rest of the season,
you can't tell me, oh, my kid only played a
half game. I sat my kid for an entire game.
And you do it, and then you can do whatever
you want. You have carte blanche to make any roster
movie you want. Maybe Steve Kers should have done that.

(14:24):
I should have told him that before the I like
to cut your jib.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
Oh, I should have done that, like you did that
if you did that with Zoe's softball team back in
the day. I know she's hear some hitter, but look
what I did, fairness.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
Oh, that would have been the best.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
And that means you're gonna sit and you and you
and you two you two Millhouse name if you stay.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the Tirack dot Com Studios. A tale of
two quarterbacks here in the next few minutes. One a
story that well, I'm going to go former President Obama
because one of my fami I always love when I
can and not many quotes I hear from from public

(16:03):
figures that I go, Oh, I like that I'm going
to incorporate that, and I'm going to adopt that.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
And I'm yo, I didn't do it all the time.
I don't look at me. I didn't do it, none
of it. I've never met that person.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
I always I always used to love when President oil
and this is what every policy, I mean, this is
the thing for every politician is when whenever something happens
in a story or a development and all of a
sudden there's a left turn or something like Obama was
always great because he would say, you know, my opinion
about this is evolving, right, like, like I can't like I.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Was circumstances too. Yeah, yeah, like I was on one
side of this for so long time.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
But my opinion of this is I thought the White
Sox could be a playoff team.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Now they're going to be the worst ever. Like, like,
my opinion is evolving.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
And my opinion of how this next even month and
a half is going to go for the Falcons with
Kirk Cousins and Michael Pennix Junior, that is a to
the point where now the train wreck is here and
not next spring.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
Okay, because look what did we see?

Speaker 1 (17:06):
We talked about this ad nauseum the the Falcons go out,
they signed Kirk Cousins, give a big four year deal,
He's the franchise quarterback. Then they go out and they
draft Michael Pennix Junior in the top half of the
first round. Okay, yes, I get they want to pat
themselves on the back. Well, we got our franchise quarterback.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
We got it. Be on everything we wanted. We got to.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
I'm not gonna be without a quarterback and I not gonna
have another year with Desmond Ritter.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Not gonna do that again. Yeah, okay, but look what
you did.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Now You've created a situation in which next spring you're
gonna move on from Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
Right, that's what would happen.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
It would be a season where Michael Pennix Junior would
sit behind Kirk Cousins. It wouldn't be a big deal.
Cousins would play. Then next spring they would have to
make a move because I'm sorry, you can't Jordan love
the guy. You can't Jordan love a guy you take
in the top ten. Right, you only were able to Dan,
you can, but you're only able to Jordan love him
in Green Bay because you had Aaron Rodgers, who, let's

(17:54):
face it, I'm sorry, Kirk Cousins is not Aaron Rodgers.
Rogers responds to an MVP type season. Jordan Love continues
to sit right, it worked out. You can't do that.
The desire for Michael Pennix Junior to play and play
soon is going to overwhelm the team. And that means
an overwhelming desire from players, from the coaches, They're not

(18:16):
going to postpone the future, from the fans, from the media.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
It's going to just overwhelm you.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
So in the spring, I thought, okay, well Kirk Cousins
is going to get traded, They'll go to Michael Pennick Junior.
But now the last twenty four hours, I think hell
is coming to breakfast a lot earlier because thank you
pe Feutech, because number one Kirk Cousins is still, according
to reports recently, still not happy that the Falcons took

(18:42):
Michael Pennick junior. Right, And obviously they didn't tell him
they were going to do that, or he wouldn't have
signed with them if they said, hey, we're going to
take a guy in a quarterback in the draft, We're
to oh sure, unless they just said it very up
to like we're going to take a quarterback at some point,
you know, not we're going to take the top half
of the first round.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
I think he had to assume a quarterback was going
to show up at some point there.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
Yeah, but it's different if you're taking a guy in
the fifth round who he's going to be a project
and maybe he plays.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
But you're taking someone's air apparent in the first round.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
So you know, they didn't say that to Kirk Cousins
because he was upset about it. Then, because he was
upset if they told him that, he wouldn't have signed there.
So now you have an upset quarterback in Kirk Cousins. Okay,
time goes on, you forget about it, and you know,
as you like to say, hey, you're a professional. You
go out there and play, and I agree with you.
But not everybody is the same. And now that we
have reports that Kirk Cousins is still not happy, and

(19:36):
Arthur Blank talked to the Atlanta Journal Constitution in the
last twenty four hours and had to step out and say,
Kirk Cousins is our guy. He is our franchise quarterback.
We love Michael Pennix Junior, but Kirk is our guy.
Like what is going on in Atlanta? Now, you shouldn't
have to do that because Kirk is your guy, right,
you said it, You said Kirk is our guy.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
You signed on that big contract. Why did anybody think that?

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Right? I don't read guys. No, I know he's our guy.
Why do you need to do that? Unless things aren't good?
And I'm telling you I thought they could go all
the way till the spring. But now look what could
happen over the next month. Kirk Cousins already isn't happy.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Now. Is he gonna lose a job in the summer?

Speaker 1 (20:15):
No, But what's gonna happen if Kirk Cousins begins the
season and is a little slow and it's little slow
coming back from injury because he is coming back from injury,
or he doesn't pick up the offense really quick.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
What happens if that goes on?

Speaker 1 (20:29):
How long will it be until the Falcons say, you
know what, we gotta put Michael Pennix on. This could
be a week five thing now, not just not next spring,
this could be a week five a we gotta go
to him because mentally, Kirk Cousins is shot.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
He was never happy.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
After taking Michael Pennix Junior and it's affecting him. And
you watch Kirk Cousins on quarterback. There's certain guys I
could say, yes, they have the intestinal fort to two,
the mental fort to two to get through that. But
I mean, the guy's got a trophy room in a
cabinet under the stairs. Happy birthday, Harry Potter. I mean,
I don't know that Kirk Cousins is is that guy
to mentally put this behind him, and again, seeing how
upset he was and is, tells me that's not the case.

(21:05):
So this is gonna be a horrendous next month, which
is gonna be questions every day about Cousins and Pennix
and the splitting of the reps, and is Pennis getting ones?
And everybody's gonna get hot, just like what's gonna go
on in Pittsburgh with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. There
was a brawl today when Justin Fields got hit late
on a play. Pittsburgh's gonna find it, Atlanta's gonna find it.

(21:26):
This is gonna be a tire fire, even sooner than
I thought, and it could be as early as week five.
This now went from we will take care of this
in the spring too. This is gonna be something now
that we have to take care of early part of
the season. And we were too smart for our own good.
We got the franchise quarterback, we got the No. When
you did that, you screwed it. And you still now
you got to get rid of one guy. You gotta

(21:46):
keep at least one guy happy. Who is that gonna be?
The Falcons have screwed it up. And I'm telling you
this is now gonna be a big thing over the
course of the next month and a half and by
the end, by the middle of October, I would not
be surprised if suddenly Kirk Cousins is no longer on
the team. Kirk Cousins is sitting down, He's not getting injured.
He's gonna be somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
Next year.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
We're gonna trade him and Michael Pennix Junior is the quarterback.
There's a lot that Kirk Cousins has to overcome, both
physically and mentally.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
And I look at the guy, go I don't know.
I don't know that he can do it.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
I think it's gonna be Michael Pennockx's job, and it's
gonna be an awful ugly beginning. Bumpy is a Bumpy
is being kind rode for them for the first half
of the season.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
Look at that we get Kirk.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
Captain Kirk opens up and shows people a little bit
behind the scenes that his wife picks out his outfits
and he's got a weird Harry Potter happy forty fourth
trophy room.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
And you're gonna use.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
That against him to think like he's some fragile being.
Come on, man, I'm worried about his leg. I'm worried
about that, But in terms of the.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
Other stuff, no, not so much. And look, dude, he
said he's not happy.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
I wasn't He wasn't happy that they took it, and
he's still not happy.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
Sure, you're gonna express some dis pleasure. And he tried
to be honest with people. I can't kill him for it,
just saying, hey, it's kind of odd.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
You gave me this giant novelty check like I won
the damn lottery, and then you're drafting this guy in
the first round. I don't know, because Pendi's had a
lot of questions coming into the draft. Right, he's a
guy with multiple big injuries on his history, not to
mention he played in Indiana.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
He played in Indiana. Yeah, but now he's got less
questions because you might need him sooner. Well you may
need him sooner, but but the fact of the matter.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Is, what about what you start that big a deal
put him in the lineup started?

Speaker 4 (23:33):
What did he do in red zone situations today, Jason,
That's what I need to know.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
What did he do in big situations? Here? In the
second week of trading camp.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
We one one for three with a touchdown and a
tip pass, was almost intercepted in three red zone reps
he got at the end of practice today.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
How dare he see?

Speaker 4 (23:51):
He's not ready, He's not even close, and it's a
wasted first round pick.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Here those wait a minute, dude, you do the flames
louder than that, man, No one could even I know
you were doing the flames.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
But I do it. My fought, man, my thrown hurt
when I want to do it, like, I don't know what.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
I don't know what that was. That was terrible. It
sounded like you were just trying to breathe and you.

Speaker 4 (24:15):
Were struggling, struggling meat sweats laid on a Wednesday night.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
Trying to do that.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
You did, You did the news one.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
It's like you were breathing heavy.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
Well, it was a nice Susie soothing fire like you watch,
you know, by candle light during the holiday.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
It's a yu long. You can hear the propane running
running through the fireplace. What is that? That's a fire? No,
it's that's not a fire at all. It's not. I'll
work together. I did.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
I didn't have bark at the ready with Hey, have
the I'm gonna call for a giant flaming dumpster.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
Have that sound effect ready? That was the That was
the worst fire. Yeah, do another impression? Jerked, my god,
that was dude, my Obama. No, it was no.

Speaker 4 (25:11):
That was Hey, you can't hold up your highest standard
and say that was my worst.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
But you gotta meet me where I'm at pal Oh, boy,
that was funny. That was tough, man, No, it was tough.
It hurt. Really tried. I try it.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
I'm like, no, no throat is seizing up. Bad idea,
bad idea. Just say Q fire fire effect, Q fire effect.
If we were doing a video, you know, video format
to this ahead the giant flames behind me, like that
great Elmo meme. I like, unfortunately to audio, so I

(25:46):
tried to hit the trigger on my throat and right
now I need a lazit.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
It hurts like hell. That was terrible.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
It's like you know when your dog's not quite right.
It's allergic to you know, something in a flower bed
and that starts making that kind of noise. That's kind
of what my throat feels like right now.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
It hurts. Mike Harmon needs a time out. He wants
to talk it over.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
So let's give Harmon that time out and let's talk
to Isaac Lowen Kronn find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports.

Speaker 6 (26:16):
I love coming to you from our nice and toasty
anchor studio.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Here there it is. Yeah, but wame on, fuck, come on,
he's pressing a button. Come on, man, wame on low
and kron Uh see what I did?

Speaker 7 (26:34):
Lash Smith heels up.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
See.

Speaker 6 (26:36):
The thing is that sort of sound effect cannot be
imitated by the human voice.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
Otherquit's to practice. Because that guy in Police Academy.

Speaker 6 (26:48):
Michael Winslow, Oh, the great Michael Winslow. I'm a huge fan,
but I never heard him try to imitate the sound
of flames. Gotta be careful because this is a true story.
Once there were.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
You're saying, be careful about playing sound effects of flames,
playing with don't play with the sound defense kids, don't
play with the sound effects.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
Only you button. You don't know what's gonna happen.

Speaker 7 (27:10):
Only you can prevent studio fires.

Speaker 6 (27:13):
There was a person who long ago used to work
in this complex who is very, very rude, and I
once did an impression of this said person to my
coworkers to communicate this person's rudeness, and in straining to
reach that level of rudeness, I literally hurt my vocal chords.

Speaker 7 (27:38):
This is a true story, So you.

Speaker 6 (27:40):
Do have to be careful with certain imitations that are
made out there.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
So Islo has been with us a while. Jason, let's
try to guess who that is. Don't know, but you
and I might be able to do some mod deduction here.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
Boy, that's a good parlor game.

Speaker 7 (27:57):
We'll be firing up the text chains on that one.

Speaker 6 (28:00):
Speaking of games, the San Diego Padres won a big
one over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night, eight
to one in San Diego. The Padres have won nine
of ten. Dylan Cease his eleventh victory of the season
up at San Francisco. The Giants beat the Ages one
to nothing of San Francisco's logan Web Bitch to complete
Game five. Hitch shutout. Rockies over the Angels in Anaheim

(28:22):
two to one, Brenton Doyle the go ahead home run
in the top of the eighth. At the Olympics Wednesday,
the US men's basketball team clinched the spot of the
quarterfinals with a one oh three to eighty six win
over South su Dan. The US women's soccer team over
Australia two to one to win its group with a
three to zero record. They'll face Japan of the quarterfinals Saturday.
In swimming, Katie Ledecki won the fifteen hundred free for

(28:45):
her eighth career gold medal. Now Ledeci swam collegiately at Stanford,
which this fall, of course, moves from the PAC twelve
to the ACC. While the ACC's official Twitter account posted
a tweet Wednesday about Ladecci's victory with the hashtag Olympians

(29:05):
made here and then let's go right. Because Lideci was
never associated with the ACC, one comment or posting this
is some of the worst stolen valor I've ever seen.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
Stolen valor that sounds like Stephen step.

Speaker 7 (29:23):
Valor in theaters everywhere.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
I'm trademarking that that that's I already have the plot.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
And here's here's a here's a hero who actually, you know,
saved somebody big thing but didn't get the credit for
somebody else got it and has traded on that his
entire life.

Speaker 3 (29:41):
But now it turns out he's a bad guy.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
And and they go to this cabin in the woods
to find the guy who really was the hero to
go take this guy down, knowing full well that, hey,
we have to disavow any any knowledgist gets out. You know,
we don't know you, and you're doing this on your own,
but we need you to go do this and take
this guy out, and you'll probably be the hero that
you deserve.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Hey, you know what right there is? Do you know
where that's from? Where Simpsons did it? Oh? Of course
with the Battle of Seymour Skinner.

Speaker 7 (30:09):
Oh right, with Rainier wolfcast Dollar. It's oh, stolen Valor.
There you go. The Simpsons has to be.

Speaker 6 (30:14):
Stole his life everything, and by the way, somebody else
cleverly they remember the cow Stanford football game with the
band running on the field. Somebody else posted a clip
of that play with the caption greatest play in a
SEC history.

Speaker 7 (30:29):
Back to you guys.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
Okay, there we go.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
Hey, listen, just so you know, when Aaron Rodgers goes
into the Hall of Fame, he's going into the jet
A right.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
It's happening. It's gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
If only you've picked a hat for your bust. Isaac Mohencrown,
he's got a big game tomorrow Angel City FC.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
Oh, they're gonna say angels with you know, they're gonna
go with uh, you know, with.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
No broadcasters game.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
It's a bold proposition, cotton, bold strategy. We'll see how
it pays off for him.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
Just really quick, you know, because we talked about Aaron Rodgers,
Apparently every day I'm gonna wake up and find out
that Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson get in some kind
of fight at practice, and I'm gonna have to take
a big have a candy dish full of tombs in
front of my computer so I can just say, okay,
here's another fight. I mean, there's like Saul and Oceans
eleven that happened on Tuesday, it happened yesterday. Rogers talked

(31:22):
about it today video of them getting animated with each other.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
Rogers said, look, we're all you know, I gotta get
on his page. He's gotta get on my page.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
And he says it usually ends both of us are
smiling and happy, or at least one of us is.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
I'm like, oh, great, great.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
So here's a quarterback and his number one receiver and
they're having problems getting on the same page of training cap.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
The Jets can't have nice things.

Speaker 1 (31:43):
I gonna have to see this every single They're gonna
be fighting at practice tomorrow. You know what's gonna happen
is that they're gonna get in a fight and it's
gonna get seriously gon hit each other with helmets and
they're gonna break hands and knuckles and all kinds of stuff,
and it's gonna be Oh, these guys are out and
what happened.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
This is where it's going. This is where it's gonna
end up. Meanwhile, back Wilson loses a quarterback battle and
comes home. Uh yeah, just see that.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
Zach Wilson may not get any more reps with the
ones at Broncos camp. They asked Sean Payton today, Hey, well,
you know he didn't get any reps with the Ones today?

Speaker 3 (32:13):
Will he get him tomorrow? And Peyton said that we'll
see super genius. Good luck, good luck, Zach Wilson, good luck.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Hey, Look, this is why I'm not worried about guys
like him and Sam Darnold suddenly blossoming in new locations.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
I've seen them. They stunk. They're not gonna suddenly get
great elsewhere. They're not.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
They've stunk. You have to flash and show that, Hey,
maybe this guy can be pretty good.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
You got you gotta flick.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Even Gino Smith flashed a little bit with the Jets,
and Sam Darnald didn't flash.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
Jack Wilson didn't flash. So I'm okay with that.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
I'm a They're not gonna suddenly show up and go boy,
these guys are world beaters.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
They just had to get away from the Jets. That's
not happening. Yeah, give it time. It's not trust me,
not happening. Trying to speak it into existence like Back
to the Future four, It's.

The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
Live from the tirect dot Com Studios.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
A happy tenth anniversary.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
Guardians of the Galaxy ten year anniversary today, and this
is one of those movies that proved that hey, when
you're rolling, it doesn't matter Marvel. Marvel decides we're gonna
do like this is like our C minus superhero group,
but we're just rolling. We're gonna do Guardians of the Galaxy, okay,
And it turned out to be a huge hit. When

(34:00):
they came out with that an ant Man, I'm like,
come on, no one's gonna go see the ant Man
is life.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
I don't think I bought an ant Man comic book
in my life. Nope. Ant Man becomes a big, big thing.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
It's all kinds of money, and there's been three ant
Man movies it's crazy, man Like, look, some people, they
just it turns to gold.

Speaker 4 (34:16):
It doesn't make sense. I mean we could look around
any industry, any industry and wonder.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
How that happens.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
But I mean, I'm serious, I'm like, I don't I
don't get how like who he had a talking tree.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
And a raccoon and what is gonna know? No other words,
it's a huge enough. I mean, it was a better
comedy than anything else was coming out at the time.
Oh true, true.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
And here's the other thing to look, you had a
big cast, you had very likable people. You had Chris
Pratt at the beginning of him becoming a superstar.

Speaker 3 (34:46):
But you know what I like is that? And and
to be serious about this, people, I was serious about
that is.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
That I really I love and I continue to hope
that we see risky movies done and put out there,
big money put into movies at Boy, their risks, and
maybe they they they come out and maybe they do
or maybe they don't. But let's keep doing them because
when they hit boy, that's something for filmmaking and creativity
and really what movie making is all about, you know,

(35:12):
because I don't know what a movie like would would
would a would a studio put.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Three hundred million dollars behind a movie like this? Now,
I know they would.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
I mean I don't think that that would Mouse Rat
would have been the thing to thrust a career at
this point.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
No, yeah, so I mean really just that's what I
like that the writ with this with ant Man, keep
putting those risks out there. I say, this is Marvel decided. Hey,
we can't be risky anymore. Robert Donney Junior, come on
back and play doctor Doom. Okay, we need you back
in the MCU.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
Eighty dollars your own boy, at your own compound.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
We we took a big We took a bigger risk
on that, on that plot line, and nobody really likes
the multi verse.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
And boy, we got like three or four more movies
to roll out with that in it. Boy, that's not
gonna be fun.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
Can we just use the flat how do we get
the men in black in here? We can use the
flashy thing and make it all go away? Where's the
timestone at Who's got it now? Exit out by the Fresca,
Exit swollen down.

Speaker 1 (36:10):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon, Live from the
tiraq dot Com studios. Now, big NFL story today is
that we're gonna see a change in preseason games because
the chain gang may.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
Be a thing of the past.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
NFL is announced today that the league is gonna test
Sony's Hawkeye technology during some preseason games.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
Now this all ties together.

Speaker 1 (36:33):
Yeah, see that's I like the fact that it's called hawkeye.

Speaker 3 (36:36):
Hawky, it doesn't hawk guy, Hay.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
This is a technology advancement that is going to potentially
replace the chain gang in the line to gain measurement.
So it's gonna be easier to say, the football's got
to get right here.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
You see where it is.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
Look, we've seen technology like this in soccer mainly to illustrate.
See it's not off because you see where the player
was right here. So see, so it's trustworthy. It's just
gonna be weird to go Nope, the ball had to
be right here. It's placed right here. Wait, that's not
the way the camera is. No, no, no, that's hawkeye technology.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
Ha guy.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
So whether or not you realize that you've seen it
already and it's becoming a more acceptable form of seeing it.
So yeah, I don't doubt that this is going to
replace the chain gang at some point, very very soon,
whether maybe it's not going to be this year, but
for next year. Sure, And you know those guys holding
onto the chains, are you gonna have to find something
else to do? Well, they had a good run. They

(37:33):
could go and be advisors up in the booth. Yeah, okay,
they'll fight another role for him.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
I mean, okay, fold them in under a different name
and subcategory to the officiating crew. I don't know, but yeah, technology,
as much as folks want to run away from it,
Like you hear a lot of belly aching about, you know,
I like the the error and whatever it's like, if
you have the technology.

Speaker 3 (37:57):
To eliminate it, you eliminate it.

Speaker 4 (37:59):
If I can have robot umpires and referees right now
across all Olympic sports, I would we'd have less belly
aching and tennis, which has been an absolute clown show
and then obviously unsportsmanlike. You know, it's got to run
through a bunch of computer analysis, but perhaps we actually
get people to officiate properly, you know, the robots.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
You know.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
The one thing though that I'm gonna miss a little
bit is because you're talking about reducing the time of game,
because it's going to be an instant instantaneous letting the
officials know if a first down line has been gained
as soon as the ball is spotted. Like ball spotted,
first down, we go. So you don't have to bring
the chain out to measure anymore. But you know what,
I kind of like that though. I kind of like

(38:42):
the drama of are they gonna be short? Are they
not sure players celebrate when they get a first down
or they don't. I'm gonna miss that little because that's fun.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (38:49):
I don't mind the game being Look, oh man, look
at that. That's a bad spot. That's a good spot.
Oh they're gonna pull the chain, get it by the
length of the football. That's a real big drama thing.
And even though this is great technology, I'm gonna miss
that part of it.

Speaker 3 (39:01):
I really am.

Speaker 4 (39:01):
Yeah, we're still gonna fight about it because at the
bottom of the pile the ball is still moving.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
Are we gonna get to see the video of the
chip moving?

Speaker 4 (39:09):
No, okay, it's under the guy's belly and then all
of a sudden it's up by his shoulder when you
finally get off the pile. Meanwhile, you get to see
the X ray thermal images of someone grabbing him inappropriately.
