we got more baseball on the way in going a
great big hot take coming off of tonight's Dodger Phillies game.
You still want to fire Dave Roberts No No date
seven seven and Roberts did all he could to be fighting.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
No, Rob Thompson is a guy you kind of want
to fire because, dude, what are you trying to bunt for?
You see what that great Phillies. Phillies post game, they're
yelling at each other. Guys at the desk.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yeah, Ruben Tomorrow is one of them, and they're yelling
at each other at the desk about how Rob Thompson
didn't pinch run for Costegano walked over there. You couldn't
put Aarrison Bader in because he could barely walk all.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Of these things. You know, again, this is Philadelphia sports
in general. Okay, just to give you this point before
you get to Patrick Mahomes. As good as things are
in Philadelphia sports, okay, they are always one step away
from disaster. At all times. Undefeated, they lose yesterday to
(01:51):
the Broncos, and suddenly we got no. One's on the
same page of the passing game. The receivers aren't happy.
They're maybe throwing shade at Jalen her Everything is now
awful Philly. Same thing, things looking great. Oh but now,
no matter how good things are in Philadelphia, they're just
one tiny step away their foot. One foot is always
(02:13):
on the banana peel, in Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
I heard that.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
That was great. I watched it three times. Santa Claus
ass Santa Claus will be showing up soon enough.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah, I mean really, the Philadelphia sports fans and the media,
it's what we're one step, no matter how good it is,
We're one step from disasir.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
We had that long winning streak, but it's gone. They're
just bad people. Wow, he just went full bad.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Oh, no matter again, no matter how good things are.
I mean, really unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Now you're one step from elimination and hanging out in
Cankon with the Mets.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah. Well, well it's it's just it's just uh, it's
it's just one soda went to Kang kuon just just
he was recruiting on on on the web. He was
recruiting other players though he was that's true. I think
he did troll the Yankees. I'm not even kidding. Oh, dude,
I like that. You see that? Dude? Do you think?
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Why?
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Why?
Speaker 1 (03:17):
I tell you? When the yank coon or put out. Yeah,
when the Yankees and Phillies lose, it's like the Mets win.
Like I that's kind of how I never win. Noah,
but that's I mean it's like them, this is better.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
It's like one soda is gonna be standing there in
a suit like he's Ricardo Maltimon Welt getting into Fantasy Island.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Oh one again, one one foot, one foot on the
finish line, one foot on the banana peel. That's Philadelphia
Sports right there. One one more step for over the
finish line. One step and I fall off the cliff.
It isn't gonna be. I think all three of us
have more hits than Kyle Schwarber this he is zero
for seven with five strikeout. I think it goes back
(03:56):
to like zero for twenty in his last postseason at bats. Yeah,
he has auditioning for the Padres like it's nobody's business,
you know, you know that's the thing now is just
really quick on the field for the Padres. This is
now the second playoff in a row where the Phillies
buying the first round, second round, and all of a sudden,
it's what happened to this team that was so good
(04:18):
in the season, right the Mets came in and the
Phillies kind of shrugged it off and said, yeah, we
ran into a hot team.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Dude, you were supposed to. You had Zach Wheeler. You
had everything, man, you had everything going your way, and
the Mets just said seeya. They tried to say all
different things to get in the Mets heads and men.
She said, yeah, we'll see it. We're going to the NLCS.
You guys are going home. This is another year where
everything went right.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Well, look, they lost Wheeler and that's a big blow, right,
I'm not saying it wasn't, but you still won the
National League by fifteen games, and you had to buy
you were one game away from having home field advantage
throughout the playoffs. And this is where you're at. You
like to look like you're going home in three. This
is second straight year that that's happening where it gets
and either the moment is too big for Philadelphia or
(05:00):
you know, because because all of a sudden, these guys
have been hitting all season long and not hitting all
to Kyle Schwarber's now not ken you even get on base, Kye.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
In the grave and one foot on the pedal. I
was born a rebel. But we'll have more on this game.
We'll have more baseball coming up in field. I got
a great, big hot take on one, Bryce Harper, But you.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Hate him again of all the you've gotten away from it.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
I no, no, no, I just have a reality sandwich
about Bryce Harper that people are gonna have to understand.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Sandwich sandwich. Now you're back to cheese steak. Maybe it's
cheese steak where the cheese, where the steak is sliced
nice and lean, and they melt the provolone in between,
and there's levels of it and a little bit of onions.
But they put the onions on fresh and don't grill them.
So now you get that little bite, that little yeah but.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Soft that could mess with your gastronomic system at all.
Onions will get you.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Uh So, the flip side of Trevor Lawrence who flipped
the narrative of his tonight biggest individual night. Trevor Lawrence
has ever had game winning touchdown run on a broken
play that he gets his footstepped on. Its absolute disaster,
and he has flipped that. It's the slow motion now
of the flowing hair as a positive as opposed to
(06:17):
cut your hair. Gey, you're here. So Mahomes and the Chiefs.
What we said about Mahomes and the Chiefs preseason has
played out over the first five games to a team
stuck up on Mahomes stock down on the Chiefs right
the last couple of years. And I'm sure part of
(06:38):
it is Mahomes a little tired of people saying, Hey,
the heyday you've had in the NFL is over the
great run you had, you've been a game manager of
the last couple years, because it really has been right
since they lost Tyreek Hill, they've been trying to mix
and match new wide receiver positions year after year after year.
It hasn't worked right the last couple of years. But
(06:58):
because the Chiefs have been a team with a really
good defense and a Travis Kelcey that was still in
his prime. Okay, they're able to make things. They're able
to get to Super Bowls, right, Okay, we're great, We're
able to win. They're able to get there. But going
into this year, things were gonna be a little bit
different from Mahomes, who was excited to get the best
weapons in theory on the field at once for the
(07:21):
last two or three years. Right, you're gonna have Hollywood
Brown in theory for the whole year. You're gonna have
her she Rice at some point. Okay, a couple more
games and then you're gonna have for she Rice Xavier
Worthy second season with the team, but he got hurt.
You're gonna him back at some point. For two years,
they've been saying we're gonna put these three guys on
the field at once, and boy, it's gonna be awesome.
And it may be. It may be, but the fact
(07:41):
he've been trying for it to two years and hasn't happened. Okay,
But Mahomes I knew stock up, whether it was part
of that or him being tied. Sometimes you need that
mid career challenge to say, Okay, how do I get
back to being that quarterback that I was a guy
throwing forty touchdowns a year that people marveled at what
I did. So I knew this is going to be
(08:01):
a different year for Mahomes, and so far he's been great,
to the point where he's leading the team in rushing. Yeah, right,
Like he let him rushing again tonight. Right. It's good
for him and if you haven't be in fantasy, it's
good but great. But Mahomes stuck up. But Chiefs I
was stocked down because this is an older team, the
defense not quite what it was, and you watch that
the Jaguars go down the field the final two minutes
(08:22):
and get in the end zone for a win. They
couldn't tackle Trevor Lawrence when he fell down twice after
getting the snap from center. The younger, more athletic, more
talented teams in the AFC are going to surpass them.
And these are now teams that only are younger, more talented,
but they have the next level head coaches that have
(08:42):
come in and can harness the talent. Right. We always
knew the Buffalo Bills are really good. They continue to
reinvent themselves year after year. But you watch the Chargers
now year two with Jim Harbaugh. Now the Broncos year
two with Sean Payton. These are two teams and suddenly, hey,
wait a minute, they're really really good. They got way
better than we thought they would right away. And even
a team like I told you, like the Colts, which
(09:03):
we'll get to over the course of the week. I
told you the Colts they have great weapons on offense.
Watch out, Daniel Jones. I mean, I told you, and
here come the Colts, who suddenly, Wow, maybe the Colts
are really really good. Yes, it was the Raiders, but
other than that, it's still really really good and one
drop touchdown away from being undefeated. All these teams are younger,
more athletic, and the Chiefs are an aging team. Travis
Kelcey is still the security blanket, and he's not nearly
(09:26):
the same guy you're still waiting for. Rashi Rice Xavier
Worthy was hurt. He got hurt tonight, but he's able
to come back in the game. Hollywood Brown is okay,
He's not great. I mean, Hollywood Brown's not something a
guy oh Man eight catches for one hundred and fifty. No,
Hollywood Brown is a great nickname and he's serviceable, right,
but he's not suddenly unbelievable. Right. It's been a long
time for Hollywood Browns since you thought he had that potential.
(09:47):
But offensively, it's enough to get it done. It's not
enough to win games. Other teams are winning shootouts with
the Chiefs. Other teams are finding ways because they're able
to outmaneuver them. They're able to use their physicality a
little bit more. They're able to They're faster than the
Chiefs are, right, I mean, look at look at the
play that that flipped the game tonight. Mahomes throwing that
pick on the goal line, right, that was a great
athletic play coming in jumping ninety nine yards. Minebackers don't
(10:11):
do that, but yet you're the Jaguars able to do it,
and that flipped the game for them. It's so tough
sledding for the Chiefs that when you see teams fall off,
it doesn't happen as a gradual part. You think, well,
maybe a couple of years going for this dynasty, a
couple of years that, No, it happens really quickly. It
happens quickly where suddenly, hey, don't get the calls. Really no,
(10:31):
when you don't get the the happens real when you
don't get the general roughing the passer calls that that
Mahomes is seemed to get not at home. That that
can hur when you don't get those great fortuitous spot
calls at home in the in the AFC Championship game,
you know that can help you as well. But overall
it's just you can see that the Chiefs are not
quite the same team and these other squads they have
(10:53):
a little bit more going on. They will draft really well,
bring their weapons in. So yeah, stock up on Mahomes,
stock down on the Chiefs. This season is just going
to be a struggle, not that the the AFC is
running away from them, because you know you talked about
this earlier in the show. Yeah, the teams, we thought
they were great this week, showing you maybe we're not
so great. Sometimes you're great, sometimes you're not so great.
But doesn't mean that that that's gonna make it any easier.
(11:15):
It's still going to be a struggle for the Chiefs. Also,
Oh yeah, no, it's certainly not going to be a
walk through the park. And and I'll go through, uh,
the the process here for those just joining us once again. Uh,
and I'll let you adjust your tinfoil hat on all
your calls and the mysteries. Are you the ones sending
out all those memes of mahomes kissing referees? No not me, No, no, no,
(11:38):
no no, Ai, I was not on no no no,
I like the AI Bob Ross wrestling. Uh, mister Rogers
your second tonight? That what about? What about all the
Stephen Hawking ones going around today?
Speaker 2 (11:49):
A lot of stuff.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Let's be careful. Harmon sent me one today of Bob
Ross and mister Rogers if they were wrestling on on
wrong Bob.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Ross comes out with Anna Nicole Smith. Yes, and Fred
Rogers just hanging.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Out with the artist, Bob Ross and Uh hanging out
and they stand in the ring against each other and
Bob Ross says that, mister Rogers, I'm looking forward to
painting the canvas with your blood. And I still laugh
at that. I've seen that like ten times now. I
just can't just kept wanting to paint the canvas with
your blood.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
They kept scrolling down and restarting their entrances and that
first line.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
But that's the first line that they throw out, and
not the old Chargers coach Bob Ross. Oh, not Bob
Bobby Ross, Bobby Rossby. But all that to say, when
we look at the AFC, got a lot of good
teams out there, great teams. I don't know, Buffalo, I'm
still wondering who their number one will be when it's
all said and done. Right, Kean Coleman had to be
(12:50):
uh sent sent to the to the bench, right, Colts
who we love and we love before the season, and
folks are jumping on board the Jones bandwagon. The fact
that you still have Taylor back there running great even
with some changes on the offensive line, that they're getting
after it in division. But your leaders in the AFC
(13:11):
right now are the Jaguars and the Colts. So if
I'm the Chiefs, yeah, I'm smarting from this loss, but
I'm still saying, all right, we just need to hang
around because we're good because even in division, right, Broncos
are are a pretty good team, right That defense is
for real and offensively, look, JK. Dobbins is getting all
the production for the Broncos he never got because he
(13:32):
couldn't stay healthy in Baltimore. Sorry, John Harbaugh, but the
Chargers are banged up, just one after another. I mean,
just pick a guy, any guy. We can go deep
into the injury report, and then the Raiders stink. So
in division it's a two team race and we're only
five weeks in. Really, all of a sudden, all of
(13:53):
a sudd what do we say? What a horrible division?
Speaker 3 (13:55):
That is? No? All Wow, the Colts and the Jaguars good,
but I mean a lot of folks were still picking
to Houston.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
It's really good.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Now they got to win this week, huh, Right, they
take care of business. But overall it's there's still you know,
warts on there. There's not a lot of great teams
across the league, right even in the The Eagles take
their first loss this week, but what are we saying?
Speaker 1 (14:18):
The offense isn't right.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
There's a lot of finger pointing all of that, and
you know that we mocked, you know, jumping in on
the strength of that Phillies loss. But it's it's all
of those things. The Packers have. The defenses looked ordinary
since week one, So you know, Chiefs, just don't don't
fall too far behind, stay right in the meaty part
of the curve, and you're still dangerous.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Exit out out a Fresco exit. Swollen down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, We got

Speaker 1 (15:52):
And TJ. Clearly a lot of sadness tonight in Philadelphia
and Kansas City DJ.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
They had a good run.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Clearly, Lion King fans might need to return to innocence
when they were kids to have happy memories after tonight.
This is from the Lion King, right, This is not
lying king. Sure, that's positive? What is this?
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Lion King is ah?
Speaker 5 (16:20):
No?
Speaker 1 (16:20):
I mean no, this is enigma. Return to innocence. Sadness
is the other big one. This is big in like
the late nineties, yeah, early two thousands, you'll know this. Yeah, yeah,
I'm gonna be so real. I just pressed whatever I saw.
I don't even know what song this is. Oh, that's
good I'm glad that you have a standard. Mary that's
really surely put the thought into it. I just pressed
whatever bud was here. At least it was a good song.
(16:41):
Luckily it's playing the song we're okay to play on
the air. I don't know about good. We're not sure.
This isn't like evan Essence. When it's not bring me
back to not evan Essence, Not Essence. You talk about him.
You talk about a band that peaked with their first album,
Evan Essence.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Wo.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Man, that first album incredible? Since then, what do you
mean the album? Wow? It was that song? Well, no,
they had a couple of songs, but that's it. Yeah,
the first album they had was good. They had the
two incredible hits off that album, and man, doesn't make
a great album because some of the other songs are
pretty good and then the rest of it. Then, the
(17:24):
rest of the last twenty years has been Wow. You
made four songs off that album right now? Oh, I
know the two big ones, but I remember the other one.
I haven't listened to it in a long time. How
good is it? Yeah? I remember it was good. Other
songs that I liked. I'll tell you when is the
last time you've gone to your trunk to empty your
CD player.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Uh, I used to. It's funny you say that I
still have what well I did. The last car we
had before the new car now actually had a CD
player in it.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
You can still do it. My dad's a CD player
in his car. Good in his trunk. Yeah, no, no, no,
I didn't know. Yeah, got one. And people are all laughing. Yes,
that was going. That was actually a thing people. Yeah,
he's he's got it going. Man, he's CD changer in
the truck in there. Yeah, you're talking about an engine.
I don't know what you know. He's got many CDs.
(18:16):
He's got CDs in the middle of Arrowsmith, Guns and Roses,
Simon and Garfunkel, like, that's on my dad. CDs is
what I got. Uh so bring Me to Life, my Immortal.
And then the another one that I can remember that
was good was Going Under Going Under. That's it. That's
the other one. They had three hits off that, so
that's three, one more, one more I can't remember. I
(18:37):
can't it's been a while to that listened album. That
that's the three I remember, but it was giving them
way too much. Three good songs off an album is
good considering they've had zero in twenty years. That that's
where it goes. They have more hits than the Jet
speaking early in the last they had more hits on
that first album. The Jets will have wins this season.
And that number is three, yes, three greatest hits AUNT
(18:58):
came out in two thousand and eight. It's it's got
to be. It's got to be the same thing. It's
got to be Fallen. Every song from the first album's
great is all to him. It's a shame too. Amy
Lee has one of the greatest voices in rock and
roll history. It's amazing voice. I have hit the transfer portal.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. So let's have a realistic conversation
(19:21):
about Bryce Harper.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
He sucks. He had a good run, you know. And
I thought about this tonight sixth inning of a scoreless game.
And you know, you've watched Blake Snell just deal for
the first six innings. But sixth inning, Snell gets into
a little bit of trouble. He walks Trey Turner, Trey
Turner steel, second first to second, one out. Bryce Harper
(19:42):
is up right, Citizens Bank is going nuts. They need this,
And I'm saying to myself, this is what you are
paying Bryce Harper thirty million dollars a year for this.
It's it's these at bats that you are paying him
thirty million dollars a year. And yes, baseball is about failure.
The best players, you know, the only succeed three out
of ten times, right, all the blah blah blah blah blah,
(20:03):
this is what you are paying Bryce Harper thirty million
dollars a year for this moment, this act bat when
they need it. And what happens. Blake Snell throws a
cutter eight feet off the plate and Bryce Harper says,
I can get it.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
The best start of the outfield is in the center
field with Kajes turned a great speed at second base
and Harper a swing at him. As he struck him out,
Snell goes back to the slider.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Dodgers radio on that a slider that is our TBS
on the call, rather a slider that is three feet
out of the strike zone. And that's a thing, is
that the last couple of years, left handed pitchers, you
can throw this pitch to Bryce Harper all the time.
He opens up way too early and he can't get
there right doesn't keep his belt buckles as solid as
(20:53):
it should be, like guys like Otawny do, and he
waves at this. Bryce Harper has lost a gear. He's
lost a couple of years. Because his last great year,
you go back five years until you're looking for Bryce
Harper's last great year for his career. Bryce Harper is
a twenty five and seventy five guy who has trouble
staying healthy. That's been doesn't mean he wasn't at one
(21:15):
time elite because he was drawing all kinds of walks. Hey,
two times in his career he's knocked in one hundred runs, right,
which I'm sorry when you had third in the lineup.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
The only thing that matters is RBID ninety nine. You
know how many guys drive in ninety runs? Now eighty
five run again, the guy's averaging seventy five run gain.
You can't say well when he's health No, no, because
being healthy is part of it for Bryce Harper. He
can't stay on the field. He is a pretty good player,
that's Bryce Harper. He's a pretty good player. And you
(21:46):
know what, he's been a pretty good player for five
years now. He's not been great for a long time.
He maybe had a year or two where, boy, he
was really elite, top of the league. But now he's
not even close to Aaron Judge, show, Hal Tawny, three
four other guys. He's not even close. He is a
pretty good player, He's not even the guy I would
want up in a situation where his team needs a hit.
(22:08):
I'd want Kyle Schwarber up there, Bro, I'd want Trey
Turner up there before him.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Bryce Harpery. He's simply not that guy anymore. And he
was only that guy very short amount of time. He
came into the league with a lot of hype. Eighteen
years old at the draft, number one overall. Pick a
guy that can catch and do this. All of a sudden,
well he get he moved to the outfield. Now he's
moved to first base. Defensively, is not the same. At
some point in the next year or two, he's gonna
go to be a full time DH because he's not
(22:33):
aging well, right, He's lost Like I said, he has
lost a gear. He's not aging well, and his numbers
just are not there, right. I mean, really, if you
want to, if you want to push his numbers out
to what it would be for if he played one
hundred and forty five games a year. Okay, twenty five
to thirty home runs, eighty to eighty five RBIs that's
his numbers. You maan you guys knocking hady runs in
(22:53):
the year thirty thirty five.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
He had thirty ninety or in twenty twenty you had
over forty guys with with over eighty yr Like, he's
a pretty good player.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Those are pretty good players. But the image and the
optics of Bryce Harper because he sneers and he snarls,
and he's got such a great attitude and he brings
a lot to you. Everybody likes him. That's awesome. But
you know, I'm not paying a guy that I like that,
that that everybody thinks is awesome, thirty three million dollars
a year to be a guy that's twenty five seventy
five hitting two sixty, right, But this is Bryce Harper.
(23:24):
Look at his last few years, they've not been great.
He's been a he's been a threat in the middle
of the lineup, but he's not been great. Max mnts
he has very similar numbers to Bryce Harper, and you
wouldn't say, oh, Max months, you gotta avoid Max Montz.
You know, Bryce Harper is a pretty good player. That's
who he is. And you saw that the at bat tonight,
like that, that's a hit they gotta have. They gotta
(23:44):
have something at that point. They have a better at
bat fand but instead Blake Snell knows I'm gonna throw
him this slider three feet outside. He's gonna chase it
and there's gonna be two outs. I mean, it wasn't
even Blake Snell trying to try to say, well, I gotta,
I gotta, I gotta nitpick here, I gotta, i gotta
pick at the outside. I'm gonna throw this and I'm
gonna throw this hook and he is gonna wave at it.
And that's exactly what he did. And you saw it.
(24:05):
He opens up way too early. You see his helmet
move on. But when he got to the middle of
his swing, the front of his helmet was almost covering
his eye right Like that's how violent his swing was
and how far out of it his swing was. Bryce
Harper is again, he's a I'm not saying he's bad.
Bryce Harper is a pretty good player. But you want
more for a guy you're giving thirty three million dollars
(24:26):
a year or two that you're gonna continue to pay.
When you're paying a guy like a superstar, you need
that fromhim. If that was shoe Hey Otani who struck
out in that situation, all over him, If that was
Aaron Judge's strikeout, all over him. But the same thing's
got to be true for Bryce Harper, and he's not
nearly the player that those guys are.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Dodger's up to nothing. They really haven't gotten much offensively
from Otani. Did finally have that hit as the game
went on that ended up being the insurance run they
needed for for Harper, a lot of it you talk
about health and the fact that he's a very old
thirty two.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
It's like what.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
Meets the National League equivalent of what we've seen with
Mike Trout. We enjoy him when he's on the on
the diamond fielding as much as it should be anymore. Well,
But and then he hit a bit with some power
when they're available. Now his batting average against left users
actually higher, more power from the right against righties this year,
(25:22):
but the point's still well taken. It was a light
hitting two seventy two, and so all all of that
to say he's five years removed from the best of
his runs when you're talking about high power numbers, games
played year to year, sporadic, and certainly in this big
spot he was completely overmatched against Blake Snell. So a
(25:45):
fantastic run. I mean for his career, over one thousand RBI,
three hundred and sixty three home run, all of that.
But that thirty two year old at times looks like
he's in his late thirties now, right, one of those
is Philly Karen right.
Speaker 6 (25:57):
About now, Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
She's gonna steal ball from kids tomorrow, like it's somebody's business.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
I want that baseball you struck out, Bryce Harper wit
so I can throw it at him when I see
him outside the stadium next, Like he still gives you
glimpses of the guy who used to be right, not nearly, no, no, no,
not enough for this. And and look when he got
when he signed this contract. What I still vividly remember
saying for his contract, Hey, the first couple of years,
(26:27):
first few years are gonna be good, but in the
end he's not gonna suddenly knock in one hundred and
twenty five runs. And how is it going to age.
You're already seeing him have to change positions three times now, right,
I mean, yes, you want to keep his bat in
the lineup, so he's not gonna catch all the time. Great,
you don't want that, Okay, but now he's going from catcher,
outfielder outfield at a first base now first bat and
(26:48):
first base, probably the DH sometime in the next couple
of years, depending what happens with Schwarber. If they re
signed Schwarber, who probably wants to stay, great, he'll stay in.
Bryce Harper will still play first I want to pay
him a lot of money, sure, but at but at
some point he's gonna have to go to be a
full time DH and is a full time DH. His
numbers aren't gonna get better. He's not gonna suddenly go
from twenty five and seventy five full time. Oh I'm
(27:10):
thirty eight and one ten. That's not gonna happen, right,
I mean it's time to have that realistic view of
Bryce Harper that he's just not quite that guy. He's
not the natural. He wasn't he wasn't next he was good.
He had a lot of hype, and he showed just
stuff for a little bit, but those salad days that
he had are long gone. Man, No gofs. It's one
(27:31):
of those examples of a guy and I used Trout
very specifically, of we keep wishing and hoping. Right, It's
like the the golf fanatics that think that there's gonna
be some dramatic month where Tiger Woods can still give
them greatness, or that whatever exhibition. Mike Tyson suddenly twenty
eight years old, Shack, I'll make his free throw soon.
Don't worry figuring that out. I mean, just keep on
(27:53):
going down the line right that you know the Clippers
are gonna stay healthy and win a tile.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Oh wow, wow, that they're.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Going to show up for the job and do the
know all of that to Nick's are going to beat
the Pacers, know about those things? Will win a game?
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Yeah something Over the last year early we bear, we
won that. Last week we lost to you, We lost
to Tommy Edmond, you hang a banner, We lost the Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
But it's just that reality check of he's not the
guy that affects games the same way. And we don't
often age players or anybody else in our lives like
we age ourselves.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
Like I look at this.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
And you know you see the juniors or whatever, like,
no that all those players eventually get old. You don't
want him to, yeah, because you have to admit your
own mortality in your sports viewing and whatever else. So
it's like, all right, he's still there. It's like because
the most amazing thing is like he's only thirty two. Yeah,
yet he's been in our consciousness for fourteen long time.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
And you know, look who knows coming up the wear
and tear one hundred and sixty two whatever it is.
But clearly his body has not been able to keep
up with that. So yeah, you age a lot faster.
And look, just like the conversation about Mike Trout when
I got what I say beginning of last year, full
time DH. I know you want to play the field.
We got to have this conversation with you, right if
you want to come back, we need your bat in
(29:19):
the lineup. You're a full time DH. The Mets got
to have that conversation with petere A. Lonzo dude. We'll
give you money, but you got to be a full
time DH because your high throat to code I Senga
completely derailed the season. Okay, just so you know, we
can't trust you throw the baseball. But same thing's got
to happen to Bryce Harper. You gotta the conversation, dude,
maybe DH, but something's got We got to keep you
in the lineup and you got to hit more Man.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
But I don't know what it is played first base.
But he works on his sprinting so he never actually
has to feed the bulls. He learns how to just
throw his glove. I'll just get the balls in my
glove and flip the glove to you.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
You catch it. As that works, he'll DH for the
Vegas A's oh wow, well what you did right in?
Speaker 2 (29:59):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (30:00):
I can see Vegas at some point the first couple
of years after they get a team looking to make
a splash. We'll go get the guy who's from here.
Sure would may hie a mission to come see the
show and he would suck sit right in time out
to find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
But guy's been called the Bryce Harper of Fox Sports Radio.
(30:21):
He likes to wave in people in the hallway like
Bryce Harper waves it pitches from Blake Snell. He's Steve Disager, Kyle.
Speaker 6 (30:28):
Schwarmer, has done more of the same. By the way,
oh for three to two strikeouts. Game one zero for four,
three strikeouts, and yeah, the Dodgers beat the Phillies four
to three. By the way, how soon can Taskar Hernandez
be full time teach?
Speaker 1 (30:41):
By the way, yeah, wait a minute to Oskar Hernandez
his home run Saturday that bought him two dropped fly
balls before you can complain about him? Yea, would you
just see him get out of the box?
Speaker 6 (30:54):
Complete lack of hustle the first.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
He can drop two fly balls before you start complaining
about him again.
Speaker 6 (30:59):
After that's credit, definite credit. After these first three playoff
games this postseason. In Major League history in a best
of five series, when a team takes the first two,
it goes on to win that series almost ninety percent
of the time, eighty out of ninety. Both the Dodgers
and Brewers are up two games to none and best
of five's right now. In the Division Series. Dodgers held
(31:20):
on four to three at Philadelphia, scoring four runs in
the seventh, Philly's with a run in the eighth two
in the bottom of the ninth the save Duroki Sasaki.
He got the final out. Blake Trinon had allowed three
straight hits to start the bottom of the ninth, but
the Phillies in that final frame did bunt into an
out at third base. The Dodgers have.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
Won nine in a row.
Speaker 6 (31:38):
Their last loss was two weeks ago to Oscar Hernandez
two more hits than a walk, Will Smith a two
run single, sho Hey Otani a RBI single. The Dodgers
said today Otani would be the Game five pitcher at
Philadelphia if needed. Phillies just need to win in Game
three to keep the season going. In LA on Wednesday,
Aaron Nola will be the starter then against LA's Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Going back to twenty nineteen Aaronola.
Speaker 6 (32:02):
I know if you know this, because even the Aaron
Nola of two years ago would be better than the
Aaronola we saw this year with the six cra and
too bad for Jesus Lozardo, who took the loss in
Philadelphia tonight was six plus brilliant innings, retired seventeen straight
at one point, but the wind to Blake's now he's
two and oh this postseason. Six scoreless innings, nine strikeouts,
(32:25):
four walks, and now we get to the Chicago Cubs
because they are on the brink here. They got a
three run homer in the first inning, and this year
when the Cubs scored in the first inning, they had
the best record in the majors forty to nine. They
only had two hits after that early home run. Well,
the Brewers hit three homers and seven to three Milwaukee
(32:46):
as the final to go up two zero in the series.
Show Toe Minaga took the loss the wind to Jacob
Mazerowski with three scoreless innings four strikeouts, and Brewers outfielder
Jackson Turio, after the hamstring tightness in Game one, not
only started tonight but hit a three run homer. And
they used an opener tonight in Milwaukee, a guy who
didn't even pitch two full innings. Sarah and Ashby. They
(33:08):
asked the bullpen to do a lot, and boy did
they come through. First bullpen in history to in a
playoff game go seven plus shutout innings, ten strikeouts, one
hit allowed. It was impressive. The American League games are
on FS one again tomorrow, Seattle at Detroit four pm
Eastern Time, then Toronto at the Yankees eight pm Eastern.
(33:29):
The ALCS starts this Sunday on Fox TV. By the way,
last week's Wildcard telecast averaged over four point six million viewers,
up sixty percent from last year. The Yankees Boston finale
got about seven and a half million. Also, Japan had
almost six and a half million viewers for the Dodgers
reds opener last week. What a Monday night football game
(33:49):
at Jacksonville. The Jags, on a touchdown with under thirty
seconds left, beat Kansas City thirty one twenty eight Jacksonville
four and one. The Chiefs fall to two and three.
Patrick Mahomes into eat one touchdown run, one touchdown pass,
but one key interception returned ninety nine yards for a
score by Devin Lloyd. So what's a team's record? Usually
(34:09):
when they're down fourteen or more in a game? Because
the Jags were down fourteen to nothing late first half
at home here, Jacksonville's record had been nine and one
sixty six, nine and one sixty six in a game
they were down fourteen points until coming back tonight. By
the way, what franchise has the worst record?
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Jets?
Speaker 6 (34:31):
Jets Jets winning percentage of forty five Yes.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
Down, wait, wait, wait overall or wait till you finishes
the question before you know, in the.
Speaker 6 (34:41):
Entire Super Bowl era of nearly sixty years.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Yeah, I just mean like their regular winning percentage, like
there's one sixty six. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (34:52):
Well, on that note, the NHL regular season starts Tuesday.
The WNBA Finals continue in Phoenix Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (34:59):
Front Back to you, Thank you, Steve, Jason Smith, Mike
Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next,
we get back into a huge NFL story. We have
to ask a very big question about the Mark Sanchez situation.
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
