to get a new open got change that up on
I don't know man. Welcome inside final hour tonight of

(00:45):
The Jason Smith Show with my bass friend Mike Armon.
We could talk about how complicated other banks make it
to radium credit card rewards, or we could talk about
how we discover you can redeem you rewards for cash
and any amount of any time. I mean talk about amazing.

they do apply. Kevin Durant is staying. I'm staying. I'm staying.

(01:11):
Guess what I'm staying. Kevin Durant put up the Leo DiCaprio.
I mean, you know what what when that story broke
today and I saw it. I said, I'm shocked, but
I'm really not. I'm really not. Kevin Durant, after talking
it over with the Nets brass that he wanted fired

(01:32):
about a month ago. Now it's gonna stay. It's gonna
stay with the Nets this year and try to go forward.
He wanted out. He allegedly said, it's gotta be Shawn
Marks and Steve Nash or me. I want out, and
now here we are, I'm gonna stay. I know I
said I want out, but I mean I'm going to stay.

(01:54):
So now he's staying because the Nets couldn't find a
trade for him, because nobody wanted to give up star
players because Kevin Durant isn't what he was a couple
of years ago. I appreciate the resolve of the Nets
and Josi, no, well, I want to do this. No
like your parents, your kids when they're little. It's like,
I want to can we go do this? How about this?

(02:19):
How about we play with the toys that you got
over the holidays and we have a nice little little
afternoon in the backyard. Now, okay, as opposed to these
grand designs on theme parks and whatever else. Uh, likewise
here he wanted to go find himself his own fantasy land,
and Josi said, no, no, here it is you signed

(02:42):
a deal for four years. I can just see the
white board. It just says four years and the dollar
amounts that is still do to him? Is this your signature?
Is this your homework? Is this your is this your signature? Kevin?
And he's wearing the sweater he puts the dude sweater
and is he's But it's it's that idea of all

(03:03):
of these demands, and you had a team finally with
with no hesitation, just say no, this is nonsense, let's
work this out. I'd be curious to see what the
other part of the conversation like, I'd love to be
a fly on the wall. Do you here it goes?
But if the final result is yeah, we've agreed to

(03:25):
work together. In other words, they told me no, they
laid out all the would be trades that were going
to happen that we're nixed by opposing teams, and we're
not going to make this public because right, but all
these things that would be embarrassing if you actually put
this out, Because we got sources, and we got rumors

(03:46):
and all the I think we've named every team at
some point in the last three months. We didn't say
the Kings. I think we did just fun do we
say the Pistons? Think this is where a team you
Oh yeah, well, Kay Cunningham, I was kind of right.

(04:06):
I told you ky Cunningham was gonna be good, but
I can't tell you said that. You said the five
dollar word right there. I'm embarrassed for Kevin Durant because
he played the don't you know who I am? Card,
I'm Kevin Durant. If I want out, I'm getting out.
If I want to go to my preferred destination team,

(04:28):
I go to my preferred destination team. And then guess
what he didn't he played this entire time. Kyrie and
I are really in charge of this franchise, right, And
I can't believe he's back. I can't believe that he
went from I want out and I want the I
want the GM and the head coach replaced two. Yeah,
I'm back. We'll make it work going for I'm embarrassed

(04:49):
for the guy. He thought he was Lebron James. He
thought he was that kind of superstar that can dictate
whatever I want and instill it's yeah, we're not trading him,
so come back and play, and this is what he's
got to do. Really, I'm embarrassed for the guy. Yeah. Again,
I'm trying to get all through all the particulars, and
you know, my my thing about sources and everything else.
I take it all with a grain of salt. What's real,

(05:10):
what's imagined, what's planted by either camp? And what do
they stand again? And after you get to Rumor nine
seventy two involving the same couple of players, I'm done
with it. I've moved on to other things. Will debate
the Trabinsky, Pickett and all those. That's fine, that's fun
because that's still new. Right What what Kevin Durant is
able to get out of the nets or get himself too?

(05:32):
It's interesting when he plays. He's still one of your
top players. But frankly, it's it's I was so over
it weeks ago, months ago, But it's it's fun that
we finally have some resolution to it, at least for
a moment, for just handing it for a moment. But

(05:55):
we had talked about just last week how everything had
gone quiet and what was the result. Nothing's going to happen.
We said it, We've said it all along. Nothing's going
to happen. Stop your feet all you want, demand what
you want. Look around. You signed a four year deal,
so for them, they're they're already pot invested. They built

(06:17):
around you. They gave you everything they wanted that you
had asked for you and your representatives. Kyrie is part
of this notice. He's not included in any of the notes.
Not to believe. Those are the only people in the
room where it happened. Kyrie didn't get to even lean
against the door with a cup to figure out what
the hell was being said. The way this is let out,

(06:38):
the nets don't have a room where it happens as
much as they have a room that people just happened
to be in. I was here, so we decided, Oh
that's when he decided I was. I wasn't in the room.
I mean we checked this office. He wasn't there. But
as embarrassed as I am for k D right, because
it's it's it's really, I mean, this is a big
time superstar, it's been a superstar for a long time.
I'm embarrassed for him. This is what I can't believe

(07:00):
about this whole situation. I can't believe Steve Nash not
only A is coming back, but B wants to come back.
You had Kyrie Irving who dismissed him in his conversations
a few weeks ago, not involved in what the future is,
and Kevin Durant who who reportedly said he's gonna go

(07:21):
where I go. No, I'm coming back to coach. How
could you walk in and coach when you know both
those guys hate you. Both the biggest stars in your
team hate you. You know they're gonna undermine you. You
know they're not gonna say good things about How do
you want to come back to that situation? Steve Nash
should say, you know what I think for the best
of the team, I'm gonna step back, and he wouldn't
take a hit. His reputation would be boy, he had

(07:42):
a really difficult situation. But we think he could be
a good head coach and he gets another job someplace.
But I think the m v P and him is
what brings him back. A guy that has played at
the elite level, the guy that was a back to
back m v P, and a guy that's saying like this,
I'm gonna show that this can succeed. We don't have
to like each other, because that's one of the things.
And there's not like there's out and out. They still

(08:04):
want to win. How can you come to throw throw
a game? No, but he's gonna say, hey, a bet on.
The opposent's gonna say, hey, listen on this place. And
what you do here is you run the pick and roll,
and Kevin, you come around for the pick and roll,
and everybody nods their head, and then the other player
looks over and Kevin looks at him and goes, no, no, no,
don't worry about it, like I'll tell you what to do.
I'm not saying he won't be a pain in the ass.

(08:26):
But what what Marks and Nash get to do is
Josi picked us, You tried to oust us, you tried
to have your coup and you failed, and now you
gotta stew in it because I'm gonna put a roster together,
which is actually a pretty good roster right now, because
that's the other part I've been contending for weeks and
maybe this will be the next thing that that shows

(08:47):
up on the morning, is that you've got a pretty
good roster in the If they play if they play.
But even if Ben Simmons doesn't, imagine doesn't play again
another year, he doesn't another year. Hey, I'm not ready
to play. What do you man, You're not ready to
play again. I'm just not ready. I'm not ready, but

(09:09):
I'm not I'll believe it when I see it. I'm
not ready to play. I'm not ready. Even though he
did have that great exchange. What was that in the
candy store the other day where that guy gotta started
asking him questions, he just stared him down. So you
got that going. I'm not ready yet, but it's been
three years. I'm not ready. I'll tell you when I'm ready.
I'm not ready yet. Whatever the case is, you get

(09:31):
Harris back, you get you got brought in some rotational guys.
I think they're a pretty good squad, and you you
hear the promos and look at your odds. They jump
back up immediately upon this news. Now, Kyrie Irving still
a wild card as to what the end game is,
and but if they're there, they're gonna play it. And

(09:52):
I think for Steve Dash, part of it is, I'm
not running away from this. You can try to bully
me all you want, but but it's gonna be miserable,
it's gonna be toxic. How do you want to do.
Let's let's just say you guys actually get on the
court and win some games. Here's here's a situation. Let's
just say this right. Let's let's just say for arguments,
I can do anything for a year. Let's just say,

(10:14):
let's just say I wanted you fired. Right, Let's say
I want Harmon fire years ago. I think you probably
want what I want Harmon fired, right, And I go
to our bosses, I go, I want Harmon out. Why, Well,
he won't get that tooth replaced. You know, he keeps
wearing the purple shorts in all the time. You know,
every time I bring him a big mac, he says,
this is terrible, it's messy. I want Harmon out. And

(10:36):
then our bosses say, okay, um, well, we'll think about it,
all right, And then Frostburg do I know that? Yes,
you know, you know, you know you read this on
the Fox Sports radio blog. And then Frostburg on the
other side of the glasses, I want Harmon out. Why because,

(10:58):
uh you he slashed the top ires in my car.
Uh he poured hot coffee on me. I want Harmon
out right. So that's the equivalent of Kevin Durant and
and Kyrie Irving saying they wanted Steve Nash fire right.
But our bosses in Fox Sports Radio go, yeah, no,
We're gonna keep Harmon, okay. And here's the thing, you

(11:20):
guys all have to do the show together for the
next year. I can do anything for a year, how
is it? But your but yousorable? You would we would
all be more met season in one more jets, I
have a cow down. Are you kidding me? You can

(11:42):
do anything for a year, Madison count But you would
be they put lipstick on. You would be miserable, especially
like you know what, especially if you knew, Hey, I
can I can get a new gig someplace else, and
I could do. Why would I come in here with
two guys who obviously want me out? Why would I?

(12:03):
It's miserable. Steve Nash has to go to every practice
and he's gotta he's gonna talk to one of the players,
and in the back of his mind it's is Katie
making faces behind me? Is Kyrie making faces behind me?
What's happening about it? But you guys are okay, Hey,
here's what we're gonna Hey, what alright, alright, alright, I
mean that's your work. He's gotta work with you. You gotta,

(12:24):
you got not only do you have to work with
these guys, but you have to live with them because
you gotta go on the road with them. You gotta
see them every day a practice. You gotta see them
during the game. You gotta see them after again. You
gotta see him on the bus. You gotta see him
on the way to the airport. You gotta see him
on the plane. You gotta see him everywhere. You're thinking,
I'm coming in here for four hours a night. What
if you came in here for four hours a night,
but you and I had to ride home together. You
wouldn't be happy? Well, I don't think what if what

(12:46):
if you had to stay at my house for a guy?
You wouldn't be happy. You wouldn't want me, well, because
you want fired, But I had no choice. You have
They said, no, I don't leave his arm and stay,
but he's got to live with you. What happened. You
would be okay with that because you would have been
able to negotiate extra compensation. Me, on the other hand,
Pam would say, why is Harmon up until five in

(13:07):
the morning watching movies every night and I can't sleep.
I know, I know I wanted the guy out, but
I just want now he's got to live with us.
What can I do? The grievances you want to keep
going down to the list of anything that you know.
The only grievance I have with you is when we
listen to music. You change a song after forty five seconds,

(13:28):
and it drives me. Bat banana is crazy that that's
what you do. Hear that's let's hear another song. Let's
hear another song. Let's hear another song. Let's hear another song.
Let's know. You can't even listen, not even like three
quarters of a song. No, no, this is like the
first ninety seconds of a song. Let's move on. Let's
move on now. You know that drives me crazy. But
outside of that, but this is all made up as

(13:50):
far as you know, So you would say everybody would
be miserable. Steve Nash Steve Nash fun says it all.
You wouldn't be happy, you would want to get out,
you wouldn't be able to come into work. He would say,
I got I can't stand looking at these guys. Steve
is gonna look at kai what Steve Nash getting paid
this year? It doesn't matter. He would go, hey, Kevin,

(14:11):
I want you gut Yeah, and he paid, pats him
on the ends, and you don't worry about it. I
got it, I got a guy. I don't worry about it.
We're good. You can do almost anything for a year.
Uh that close in that kind of with with that
kind of scrutiny where every day people are talking about it,
it's really it's really really difficult. But I don't think
Steve Nash is the guy that's wearing it here that
and he was the chosen one. He gets to put

(14:32):
on a crown and walk around. I got to stay
doesn't mean I'm listening to you, know but I got
to stay doesn't mean I'm listening to you. Here's it's
gonna be one of those here's you no no, no,
here's me. No no no. He can't lose, he can't.
The team can stink. And then it's why I would

(14:53):
be hied. Steve Nash. He couldn't know, he couldn't, he couldn't,
he couldn't deal with the with with the egos of stars.
So we can't hire him for our because we're gonna
have star players. No, no, no, no, he's gonna have
to go to Detroit. Egos of stars were Sacramento and
there's what we've seen in this there he's a point
guard slash head coach. Listen, I'm gonna play the last
three minutes, all right, I've activated myself. How close is

(15:16):
he to any particular miles Twitter? And like Albert Pools, Hey,
I want to stay ongoing. I want to get to
seven hundred man's questions him Verlin or these guys found
the youth? Where'd you find it? I got it? Hit

us when he was thirty. Great coming up next. Now
we know who maybe Tom Brady was talking about when

(17:26):
just gonna say this before we get into Derek Carr
and Tom Brady. Yes, Dan Campbell is not for everybody,
the breakout star of Hard Knocks. The average NFL fan
really learning who he is right now because normally the
Lions are, you know, kind of remove from the radar,
they're kind of on half. But he's got grit, he does.

(17:47):
We met him last year when he said, you know,
we're gonna do anything we can. We're gonna bite your knees,
cut your ankles, We're gonna do all these things to
try to win a game. At another big episode of
Hard Knocks tonight, uh u more Dan Campbell breakdown. But
I gotta be honest, I'm just gonna say this, I
kind of like the Lions this year. Well, and then

(18:09):
he had the team only meeting coaches right they called
together and you know, they kicked all the coaches out,
so Campbell looking at things through a different lens. Guy
who played in the league for a long time. I
like the Lions. They have a good offensive line, they
have a lot of weapons, and Jamison Williams is gonna

(18:30):
come back probably in the middle of the season. And
golf is good enough. He's not look, he's not really good,
but he'll be good enough to put points on the board.
He took a team to a super Bowl and this
is got dragged along to the super Bowl And okay,
there is that uh. And it's not like their defense

(18:50):
is great, but you know, you get a couple of
big draft picks and Hutchinson looks like he's the real deal.
It's not that they were terrible last year. They just
happened to lose every single a close game they played.
You gotta think that that's gonna change this year. They
got better in the off season, and I'm fully I'll
give you this bold prediction for the for the Lions

(19:11):
that in the middle of December, at the end of
of the four o'clock games on CBS, when they said,
and here's where the standings look right now, and they
show you who is in the hunt in both conference.
When you go, here's your division leaders, here's your wild card,
and here's your in the hunt. Right and to give
you three or four teams in the hunt, that's maybe
a game or two out of the wild card. The

(19:32):
Lions will be in the in the hunt category in
the middle of December. You can hang at batter for
that Detroit well, and then is it a shell game
with the other two teams that aren't Oh no, no, no,
Seattle and and and Atlanta will never even be close.
And the Giants, yeah, and there and the Commanders even
before the TI Dickie Getta beat out Carson went for

(19:55):
the job. By what we six week seven here, you know.
But I like, really the Lions are on the way up,
making the Stafford trade as great as it was for
the Rams, because they look, they won the Super Bowl
and Stafford's gonna have another few years left. They weren't
going anywhere with him. They used that that draft to

(20:16):
restart and they're gonna have more money to spend. They
have to find a quarterback. But they've done a great
job setting things up for whoever that guy's gonna be. Yeah.
The way that story was told of how that trade
came to be of getting Stafford to l a how
come there's nobody looking for tampering there when he's still
I don't know that he'd gotten permission to go seek
out a trade at that point when they happened to

(20:37):
run into each other. Oh, we heard that story from
walk down the street and you said, oh, look about
and then you look and go, oh, I didn't know
you were here. And that's how it works. Galen Brunson
went home to see his folks. Hey, Dan, he comes
in his dad's where in the Nick's that? Look, I
got this throwback Walt Fraser Jersey, and I got one

(21:00):
for you. It's personalized to you, son. But no, but
we can't talk. It's okay. No, he's got like a
Knicks blanket. There's a Knicks guy. He's got like's been
made up for you. You know, when you're ready to
go to sleep? Is that Dave to bush your fathead? Yes,
it is, you're ready, all right? Why why is he
waiting to read me at bedtime? Story? Anyway? So James

(21:24):
Dolan's doing a concert in the backyard in about a
half hour. But we we talked about it back before
everything went down with Brian Flores. The one thing you
can say about the Dolphins is they played hard for
him right, and that usually over time can get you
to success as you start to build the roster. And

(21:45):
I think that's what you have here with Campbell in
Detroit because we watched it last year. They played, they
played overshot their skis in a lot of those games
where they shouldn't have been in the games. They couldn't finish,
they couldn't close out. But it's a good building block.
Now you add a bunch of talent both sides. Offensive
line is good, two running backs, and Jamal Williams guy

(22:06):
has shown himself to be a veteran emotional leader for them.
And obviously, if you follow anything in the Fantasy realm
uh and predictions of breakout players, DeAndre Swift's name runs
up really fast. I don't know if that it's because
people want to jam in as many uh Taylor Swift
songs and show themselves as Swifties, but either way, it

(22:28):
rolls through. You added dj Chart one of our all
time favorites. If he can stay healthy alongside Williams coming
off injury, Hawkinson and Ahman Ross at Brown, You've got,
You've got a nice offense put together defensively, some pieces
that you like, and and maybe they can overachieve, particularly
the run game, and there's some nastiness on the offensive

(22:48):
line that allows you to get some long, protracted drives
and Jared Goff takes care of the football. They're interesting
to watch. I think it's a division that's gonna cannibalize itself, right.
Got the Packers and everybody jumped on board the Vikings,
So that's a little overweighted for me. Now. I like
them early, and then all of a sudden it became

(23:09):
the popular pick for popular people. So I'm gonna I'm
gonna zag and I'm gonna go back to Aaron Rodgers.
But I don't think it's a runaway. I think it's
gonna be cannibalized because the Bears are gonna be good
enough to screw up the division a little bit. They'll
ruin your season and they'll ruin their season. You just
watch and maybe yours by proxy. But Dan Campbell's a

(23:31):
guy your route board. He's got a little bit of
w W E Superstar in him, Like everything is a
shoot interview and he's trying to find the perfect analogy
and one liner to get over the top, bringing in
Metallica lyrics and the opener and all the things about
We're gonna get you in the middle of the ocean.
Really stole a bunch from Survivor and a bunch of
game shows, but it all blended into I kind of

(23:54):
like this guy. He's a little bit off the normal
path for coaches. Both in his temperament. It's Robert Sala
jumping around the sideline, and you apologize for it, but
it's that that energy can be infectious. It is a
thing that can lead you, uh to maybe overachieve a
bit and you start to get a bit of belief.

(24:16):
And for Detroit, it's been a long time. Twitter and
how about a fresca Mike gets swollen down the Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carbon Now what about Derek Carr
and Tom Brady. We got that coming up in about
nineties seconds. But first, Brian Finley's got what's trending in
the wide world of sports tonight, b if what about
those white socks and mets. We'll get to that in

(24:36):
just a moment. Hey man, you can't go two out
of three. You gotta include yourself that that you can't
take shots when you know there's another L sitting on
your side. Yeah, there's an L in my forehead. I
think that was a lyric to a song at some point.
But the final game to finish up on this Tuesday
was the Dodgers, and they just put it on. The

(24:57):
Brewers tend to want l. A now owns an eighteen
and a half game lead for first in the NL
West over the San Diego Padres, who were embarrassed at
home on Tuesday, three to one. They lost to the
Guardians after San Diego scoring once on or one of
eight that is in runners and scoring position converting on

(25:17):
such a stat. Also the Mets, yeah they lost, but
they still are first in the NL East. They have
that going for them. Afford to defeat. They got swept
in the two game Subway series against the Yankees, which
saw a home run from Aaron Judges, but the Mets
are a two game lead over the Braves in the

(25:38):
NL East. Atlanta winners on Tuesday, so were the Astros,
and they got it done four to two against the Twins.
As Justin Verlander was pulled after six innings of no
hit baseball, he said afterwards he was okay with that
the result, well, it turned out pretty well for the
team and they now own despite the Maritors on Tuesday

(26:01):
and a leven and a half game lead for first
in the a L West and Mike Harmon your white
socks lost, but there within four games the first of
the Guardians and the AL Central. So there is some
hope for you tonight. Yes, so that in the Yankees,
as we mentioned b Jason Smith's Mets finally will leave

(26:23):
you with this. In the world of the NFL, the
Chargers defensive bank J. C. Jackson said to miss two
to four weeks after undergoing ankle surgery. And before we
get it back to the knuckle heads, a reminder that

Slash redeem rewards terms apply. That Let's get it back
to the two knuckle heads Yes, it's J. S. Smith,
Mike Harmon, thank you very much, knucklehead, Bryan Finley, uh
is he jump knuckle and Brian So. Over the weekend,

(27:09):
UFC had Dana White went on a podcast with Rob
Gronkowski and said, you know, a couple of years ago,
I had it all brokered for Brady to come to
the Raiders, but then John Gruden said he didn't want it.
Gronkowski said, Gronkowski sort of confirmed it, So, okay, maybe

(27:30):
now we know who Tom Brady was talking about a
year ago when he went on the shop and said,
you're choosing that blank or blanker over me. No, it
wasn't Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Dolphins. It apparently was Derek Carr.
Could have been Jimmy Well if now we know that
he had a chance to go to the Raiders and
it was I'm sorry, I can't take that guy because

(27:51):
all I see is Baker coming off the field with
the football and Woodson hitting him and the referee saying, oh,
he was making a tuck motion. I can't do that.
I can't have this guy. I think about it every
single day. So there was no Tom Brady in Vegas
because John Gruden said No, this is the first time
Derek Carr got to meet the media since that story

(28:12):
get out, because Derek Carr would have been the guy
replaced by Tom Brady. What does Derek Carr think of
that story? It is what it is, uh, you know
for me, like I didn't even hear about it. We
actually had within the building someone lost a family member,
so like I was so immersed in that and just
talking to that person and that kind of stuff that

(28:32):
it was a moment to really put things in perspective,
like it really doesn't matter, you know what I mean. Um,
at the end of the day, anything I say will
just be blasted out there. So I'm just gonna completely
remove myself and just keep trying to play football. It's
been nice just answering football questions, uh, you know, and
hopefully hopefully no more drama in the city. That's what
That's what I hope. Yeah, dude, you play for the

(28:53):
Raiders is always going to be drama. It's built in.
It doesn't matter, it's it's built in. Well, you had
Mark Davis do everything he could, clap his hands going
like a Vegas blackjack. Do you look on Hey, I
didn't know I got nothing to do with any of
this tampering stuff, anything that may or may not have
transpired with Gruden in this because they're still trying to
figure out all the rest of the Gruden situation as

(29:14):
it is that keeps going to the courts. But for
forgotten to say it he was he was done with
it right because it was gonna eclipse him. In my opinion,
that was a very large part of it. Is I
bring in Brady. It's not my squad anymore because that's
just along for the ride now that I'm with you.
He got rid of Kalil mac because Khalil Mack was
too big a voice. He was too big a guy

(29:35):
for the Raiders. So I'm trading Khalil Mack. I don't
want that. It's my team. I'm the star on this team.
That's what he wanted. Yeah. As for Derek Carr's response
here is diplomatic as he possibly can be. Maybe he
takes a little bit of excitement that he was the
chosen one, but deep down inside he looking around going

(29:55):
all right, what else is going on here? Why? But
he's gonna dismiss said his best he can. He he
tried to opus skate with a hey it's the first
thing from my mind. I got a season, I got
people to take care of here, and I'm trying to
push forward. So you guys do what you're gonna do.
I'm not feeding in. Let's be honest about Derek Carr,

(30:17):
al right, because there's two schools of thought. There's Derek
Carr is overrated and boy, Derek car should get more
creditrated because they're there there. I've seen a lot of people,
a lot of blue check marks, a lot of hosts
say Derek Carr is pretty good. Uh, Derek Carr is good.
But let's be honest. He's about the fifteen best quarterback
in the NFL. That's Derek Carr. The reason he has

(30:40):
played so long with the Raiders is because he has
every year been just good enough to keep his job. Right.
At the end of every year, teams go over all, right,
what do we need to fix for next year? What
are our big things going in the off season? And
you look at your top three things and and it's
offensive line, it's this, it's that. Okay, that's what we
gotta fix. Derek Carr has never been a point where

(31:02):
we really got to replace him. Now. Has he been great? No,
he hasn't been great. He was great couple of years
early in his Graham going back five or six, seven
years now, but he's not great. But he's never been
so bad where it's, oh man, we got to replace
the guy. He's just not good. He's throwing three picks
every other week. We can't win games that way. No,
Derek Carr has been just good enough where each year

(31:23):
the Raiders is, yeah, we're okay at quarterback, let's fix
other things now. This year, he's got everything right. This
is the guy that should be throwing more than twenty
three bleep and touchdowns a year, right, But that's what
he does now. He's got Davontae Adams, he's got Darren Waller,
he's got Hunter Renfrol, He's got Pro bowlers everywhere. He's
got two pretty good running backs. Right. Josh Jacobs is
a guy that really knows I gotta compete for my

(31:44):
job this year. Me Abdulla is gonna be the James
White of the of the Raiders. Now, we heard that
today from Albert Brier. He's been having a great camp.
Not Albert Brier. Meabdulla and the Raiders are expected to
have a big season. But Derek Carr is just okay.
You look at well they got to the playoffs last year. Yeah,
and you know what Derek Carr was the last half
of the season. He was just a guy. He threw

(32:05):
eight touchdowns in the final eight weeks. That's someone who
is okay. It's not someone who is great. It's not
someone who is really really good. You need that kind
of play by a quarterback in the NFL. It's not
good enough to just be a game manager. To win,
you have to be somebody that, hey, I'll throw four
touchdowns every couple of weeks if you need to, I'm

(32:26):
always gonna throw for three yards. But Derek Carr is
not that guy, and the Raiders had a tough time
putting points on the board. He is a he is
an okay quarterback. He's good, but he's about the fifteenth
best quarterback in the NFL. And I'm not even counting
guys you would take over. And because you're just starting
your career where there's still people who would say I'll
take Trevor Lawrence over Derek Carcass. Trevor Lawrence supposedly is

(32:49):
a generational talent. No, I'm saying you go through the
guys and as far as the most talented quarterbacks in
the NFL, he is in the middle of the pack.
Wherever you look, he is in the middle of the pack.
That's Derek car He's good. But is he really really good?
Is he gonna change your team? Is he gonna transform
a team? No, he's had that. He's had that fortune
of just being good enough where we don't have to

(33:11):
have the bulls eye at him. Derek Car. Now, Derek
Carr was good. He was all right this year. Now
he was all right. Now he was all right. We
had other bigger problems we have to solve. Sure, you
had issues with your coaching staff, you had to make
a change there. You had issues off the field. You've
got courtrooms involved. There's there's a lot of stuff that
have been there. So Derek Carr's greatest strength was how
he was able to bring the team together. He has

(33:32):
he has, He has done well through controversy. So last
year that that would be the one thing that goes
into the checkbox when we're doing all the intangibles, is
that he did a good job of keeping them together
and make him the run that they did didn't overwhelm me.
A statistically, but as a unit, they pushed forward this year.
They've got everything going for them except for the division

(33:54):
and a bad offensive line. Because if we're gonna rank
offensive line, their bottom and they're already you know what
the prioritization list you were putting together, they're already number one, already.
Cement started the year. The guy they drafted in the
first round last year, they don't know what to do

(34:15):
with him. It's listen, the Raiders have put a lot
of talent together. But to suddenly think or to think
that Derek Derek carrs is good and if they had
Tom Brady instead of Derek Carr, guess what, Raiders. You
imagine this offense right now with Brady instead of Derek Carr,
and it's Adams and renfro and Wallert. Oh my god,

(34:37):
they would He would throw four touchdowns a week and
the Raiders would score forty points. They would be there
would be no difficulty in ron Cowsky would be back
because he'd get to live in Vegas. I'm gonna play
the rest of my career. Tommy, I'm good. I got
it there. That that but that's let's be realistic tonight.
He's the fourth best quarterback in the division. Everybody else

(34:58):
in that division is better than Derek car They're all
in the top ten, they're all top top ten quarterbacks.
He's he's a guy that's in the middle of the pack.
That's what he is. He's the middle of the pack guy.
He's Eli Manning without the Super Bowls, all right, without
the big playoff run, because that's because that's the thing.
When you can run in the playoffs, that's a big deal.
And Eli Manning was a big player in the playoffs

(35:18):
his entire career. Derek Carr barely makes the playoffs and
when he's there, look at the Raiders last year. A

The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten

Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. I Love
you all Live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Where
for Endo Tiptis spoke today, kind of surprised, didn't expect it,

(36:06):
but he did. After being suspended eighty games for violating
the league's substitut policy or for the sorry for the
performance enhancing drug policy. Uh, getting busted for close to ball,
which was helping to deal with ringworm. Uh. Suspended for
eight that's what he said, suspended for eighty games. Uh,

(36:29):
no more games this season, no more World Baseball Classic
and into next year. Spoke today for the first time
and he said that, Yeah, I'm sorry boy. I know
the padres are pissed at me, and I'm hopeful at
some point that well, they won't be pissed at me anymore.
I've seen how my dream I've turned into my worst nightmares.

(36:52):
But there's no other other ones to blame them myself.
I haven't made the by the decisions on this pass
do weeks month even started at the beginning of the year.
I made a mistake, and I regret every single step
and I have taken in these days. All right. So
I've said many times about how I feel about for

(37:13):
Naritist Jr. He's someone that's it's immature and and and
everything that goes along with it. But for all of
this boy to tease he was riding a motorcycle and
he shouldn't and he got in trouble and he got hurt.
And now he says after after his press conference today,
he's gonna have shoulder searcher surgery he should have had

(37:33):
last year and tried to play through, and was going
to try to play through this year before the motorcycle
accident either aggravated said injury in addition to the risk,
or just well I'm out anyway, So let's have the surgery.
He's gonna have shoulder surgery. Uh, this is where I'm sorry,
but Padres, you can be as mad as you wanted

(37:56):
this guy, but you got to own it because this
was your decision. You decided a couple of years ago. Hey,
we can give an immature twenty one year old has
been hurt a couple of times. Let's give him three
hundred forty million dollars. Nobody does that. You wanted to
reward him and keep him. You're not paying him for
another four or five years, so you give him around
lakun you type contract. Here's ten years, ten hundred millions,

(38:18):
all right in the middle. You're gonna be upset and
one out. We'll deal with it in five years. But
now everybody is happy. And for a while you're we're
gonna get a real good value for you because you'll
be playing under market value. But for a little while
you'll be getting way more than you would get. So
here this is how you do it. You don't give
an unproven guy three hundred forty million dollars when you

(38:39):
don't know how he is uh from being a leader,
You don't know how he is maturity. You don't give
a twenty one year old three and forty million. You
don't do it. But the Padres decided to do it,
and everything that's come from there they have to own.
You could be as mad as you want to it
for Nannertutis and A. J. Prowler can say we expected more,
we expected maturity. No, you guys paying him. You decided

(39:01):
here's three forty million when you haven't earned it yet
and we don't know the kind of player you are.
But we're giddy. We're excited because we have a homegrown
star that came up through our system and and everything
looks great and finally we have a guy that can
be the face of our franchise and we we get lost,
caught up in the excitement. It's just like having a
relationship where everybody loves each other for the first couple

(39:22):
of months and you don't see all the problems out
of there. But oh, we love each and we love
each other. It's great, it's great, it's great. And then
after a little while you go, oh, man, there were problems. Oha,
we had problems. This is on the padres be as mad.
You wanted to tease, but you got to own it
because you decided we're gonna give this contract to him. Well,
Prowler's statements were pretty telling, right of well, we had

(39:43):
concerns and and these kind of things, and in hindsight,
blah blah blah. You know, connect the dots as you will.
And so you took your shot, and you you wanted
to swing with the big players and make your stand
and say, hey, we're coming for the Dodgers. It's really
all was hubris as an organization, and to try to

(40:04):
keep pushing. What did you do? You traded away all
of your prop top prospects to go make the big splash.
And now you're looking around on all right, this guy
is unavailable to us. We don't know if the other guy,
mont Soto is gonna want to re sign with us.
We're into three hundred million dollars from a chatto over there,
what the hell? And we signed tattoos with all of

(40:26):
these potential issues? Were the the years that we paid
him on and the hope and promise was that legit
or was that all fabricated and part of the big
smoke screen as well? I raised my hand. Fabricated part
of a smoke screens. Probably right, that's your answer to me.
You got, got got and now you're stuck. I had
the answer, yeah, because who's gonna want him? Who's the

(40:47):
one him at this point nobody, nobody's gonna want him.
Three hundred plus million dollars Twitter and how about a
