Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Readings and welcome in fineal hour of the program. Here
on a beautiful Wednesday night from the Fox Sports Radio Studios,
Mike Carmon alongside Dan Byer with you. Jason Smith off
this week having himself a little bit of vacation before
he gets back to watching the Mets blow any chance
at the postseason and getting himself for the inevitable failures

(00:50):
of the Jets and Syracuse Football. There I said the
quiet part out loud. Dan Byron instead at Dan Byro
on Foxes where you find and find me over at Swollendome.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Hear Dan during the.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Week as part of the Middays alongside Doug Gottlieb and
Covino and Rich Fox Sports Sundays. He's got two No,
which no, You're with me? Right now a Fox Sports.
I'm already switching it to football season.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Dan So nine Old No.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Nine to eleven AM. Immediately I'm thinking about football. We're
doing football stories. I've switched it already into Red Zone Radio,
which is not for another six weeks. Yes, I suck
Fox Sports Sunday nine to eleven Pacific, and of course
I watch a Flex podcast. There's some segments up and
some more to come in earnest as we try to

(01:40):
get our schedules set start getting you all that great
preseason prognostication, rankings, sleepers and bus and players we love
and hate and all that stuff coming up in short
order with all the coaches. Fun but one of the
great stories of the day, and we've been talking a
lot about the Pittsburgh Steelers, and well, the AFC North

(02:01):
gets a lot of our attention. It's an interesting division.
Aaron Rodgers. They unveiled those nineteen thirty three throwback uniforms
that'll be part of Week eight against the Green Bay
Packers when Rogers and his old team meet up. We
talked a little bit about the Ravens, but certainly a
lot has been focused on the Bengals, with some on

(02:23):
the Browns quarterbacking situation. By the way, the helmet reveal
for the Browns will do uniforms. We'll either get to
it today or tomorrow with all the changes and those
Gold Chargers uniforms whatever. I did enjoy that the Browns
did this giant unveiling of this massive brown helmet. Guy
falls into water. Everybody's focusing on that. I'm focusing on

(02:46):
the fact that the sponsor of it.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Is Dude Wipes and it's a giant brown helmet.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
I was fixated on that.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
They guys following in the water. That's fine, guys fall.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
In the water.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
I did not put too and two the games, but
I will say that I thought, yeah, this is odd.
This uniform reveal is sponsored. Now when you put it
in those terms completely different persons.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
It's really dark brown helmet revealed, the first of its
kind for Cleveland.

Speaker 6 (03:18):
Brought to you by Hey.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
And there's the dancing package of works and it works.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Yeah, I mean a product there, and you know, I'll
trust our plumbers to figure out, uh, you know, if
it all works in the ground grand scheme of things
in terms of biodegradeability and all. Uh you know, check
your your listings as you buy stuff. But one of
the stories that was circulating today and it becomes the
the fun fodder for the book of lists that we
love so much of.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
TJ.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Watt, who's had a massive career, just signed a new deal.
Aaron Rodgers has come in to town retool some things.
Mike Tomlin and the streak of winning seasons or I
guess seasons without a losing season, all of that stuff.
Wa joined the team in twenty seventeen. Steelers have not

(04:08):
won a playoff game. So he called it a point
of frustration for him in a conversation with Sports Illustrated,
calling it also unacceptable.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
And so now he'll wear that right over the course
of the year.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
It's unacceptable because even if he's playing well, part of
your unit isn't getting the job done. The team's not
getting it done, and I love the ownership of it. Right,
it becomes a me problem as opposed to a they problem.
They're not supporting my greatness and things of that nature.
Winning a Super Bowl no doubt motivating me, and winning
a playoff game is absolutely motivating me. It's something we

(04:47):
haven't been able to do since I've been here. I
think it's an absolutely unacceptable, and that's what's attached to
my name right now, because that's true.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
Right we do that. Usually it's with.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Championships and the best to never win one. And then
you start thinking about, so, who are the best players
to never win a playoff game in some cases, to
never appear in a playoff game? And I immediately think
of two guys from Chicago, Sayers and Buckets, two of
the greatest players of all time Joe Thomas who went
into the Hall of Fame of the aftermentioned Cleveland Browns.

(05:17):
But it's just that kind of thing for the Steelers,
a reminder, and it's something we've banged on a lot.
And respect the hell out of Mike Tomlin, had some
great interactions with him over the years. He's great for
the business, gives us great sound bites, and they don't lose,
but they're always in that meaty part of the curve
you play meaningful December football. And I've made this point

(05:38):
I think with you a couple of times, and certainly
with Smith, I would love to know what that feels
like to have that kind of run where I know
my team is playing for something, whether I believe we
can actually win it all is a whole other question,
and you'd have to go individually and start polling people
in Pittsburgh year to year or put them on lie

(05:59):
detect in terms of how much they believe the team
can actually win win versus we're not behind Cleveland, we're
not clean.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
Because they've never bought them down.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
And I don't know if that's good or bad in
the grand scheme of things, but I'd like to try
that other world for a little while to where my
team is actually relevant.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Right.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
We laugh about the White Sox. They win a couple
of games, they're scoring a lot of runs. Now it's
a nice week. There's still thirty games under five hundred, right,
whereas with Pittsburgh every year you're at five hundred or
better as a start. But for a guy like TJ.
Watt to say, you've been in the league since twenty
seventeen and even with all the team success and there's
a camera here so I'm just doing the air quote

(06:39):
thing for the radio audience, that you don't have one
of those in your long extensive resume is an amazing
thing too.

Speaker 6 (06:48):
Tony Gonzalez.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
A stop in Atlanta near the end of his career
to get that playoff victory to get that win.

Speaker 6 (06:55):
They ended up beating the.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
Seahawks in a divisional playoff game and he finally got
that playoff win. So there have been along with others
that you've named and just talking about one with wins
or just getting a win.

Speaker 6 (07:09):
Tony Gonzalez is one.

Speaker 5 (07:10):
So think of the names that we've mentioned, hall of Famer,
hall of Famer, hall of Famer, hall of famer.

Speaker 6 (07:17):
And yeah, TJ.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
Watt can say it's unacceptable, and I agree with you
that he is putting it on his shoulders. But I
don't think that there's anybody who thinks that one person
that is in a quarterback or one player that is
in a quarterback can get you to the playoffs. Maybe
Derrick Henry, maybe Titans days Dereck Henry, but still Ryan
Tanneil had to be, you know, doing some of that,

(07:39):
Like maybe that's that's the one.

Speaker 6 (07:42):
But I just don't think that you can get what TJ.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
Watt is saying in accepting the responsibility. But how I
read it is that it is unacceptable for the Steelers
organization to have that long considering how long he's been
in the National Football League. Even branch it out a
little bit more just within the division. It's actually one
of the reasons why I think the Bengals feel that
they don't need to pay Trey Hendrickson. As far as

(08:09):
ridiculous as it sounds, is was Trey Hendrickson the difference
last year for that defense that was a trouble.

Speaker 6 (08:15):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
They were awful no matter how good he is. Yes,
great stats and maybe another three year run gets him
into the Hall of Fame consideration. A couple more Pro
Bowls Ano, they're all pro too, but we saw what happened.
Lou Adima, who was the heralded guy, was shown the door,
and they couldn't get eleven guys on the field to
look the same direction.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
Like I play defense.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
There are a lot of pieces missing from that Super
Bowl run when they ended up playing the Rams here
in LA that you got a first hand look. And
you've talked a lot about how the Bengals fans at
the time like felt like they were going to be
going to be back again. Yeah, and I think that's
it can even relate to this situation here. There's not
one player that is going to change it that isn't

(08:59):
a quarterback. And when you look at their quarterback play.
Outside of the first two years of TJ. Watts's career,
it hasn't been there for the Steelers. When Ben Roethlisberger's
elbow went out in twenty nineteen, that was it. So
the Roethlisberger situation hasn't worked. We saw how Kenny Pickett worked,

(09:20):
it didn't super Bowl, Mitchell Trubisky, all of these names
that have tried to come in and be the guy,
Russell Wilson, Justin Fields didn't work out. Didn't happen. It's
not TJ. Watt's fault. I know that he wants to
be there and needs it for his resume, but it's
not just it's not one player. And I think it's

(09:40):
more of an indictment on the Steelers. And I know
what you're saying as a Bears fan, and I don't
want to put words in your mouth because I don't
want to say that. At least, there's this this hope
if you have a higher draft pick, but when you
get Caleb Williams, you know, like there's like some hope,
there is this malay that lasts for a while. You know,

(10:02):
this is where like you're like, if you're the Steelers
and I just feel it as a Seahawks fan, not
really how realizing how long it actually was. In the
Pete Carroll era, they were good, they were going to
the playoffs, maybe they were a wild card, maybe they
making the divisional playoff. But once Russell Wilson was picked
off at the one yard line, there wasn't a lot
of fun.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
Sure, they became a different animal.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
Yeah, yeah, So like, so you're good enough, you're there,
there's some exciting games, but are you really a super
Bowl contender?

Speaker 6 (10:32):
Are you not?

Speaker 5 (10:33):
Are you just there? And ultimately I think that that's
the you know, that's the ultimate goal. I'm not saying
that your position is better than that. That's not what
I'm saying at all. But I feel like the Steelers
are in that situation where, yeah, it's not really fun.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
There a couple of times I've been to Pittsburgh. I
was out there on a school visit with my daughter
and we're at a at a restaurant and talking to
some Steeler fans as I'm waiting for our table and
and and are in that weird spot. Like as much
as they respect and love Mike Tomlin, like to a person,
they were just kind of like at some point we
need to either blow it up or like and that's

(11:10):
the pragmatist. And I don't know if I.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Tried to convince them before they offered this, and maybe
I sold them on it, but it became, you know,
just a very much a it's great because we know
we're gonna win a bunch of home games and that
makes for a great time and a great night and
a better Monday and Tuesday at work.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
Right, it's always better at work when your team wins.

Speaker 6 (11:31):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Man.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
Look, you know the Dodgers have been struggling, but around
these parts, we got a lot of Dodger fans, a
lot of injured players, a lot of bad defense, whatever else.
Even if you came off a World Series win, you're
still living and dying with it.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
We're watching in the hallways, cursing up and down, salty this.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
I it's like with the Bears, Like, keep trying to
sell me, hope I eventually, maybe I'll jump on board
once we get some wins.

Speaker 6 (11:57):
Is TJ.

Speaker 5 (11:57):
Watt being a hypocrite for signing a contract that makes
them the highest paid non quarterback in the NFL and
then coming out and saying it's unacceptable.

Speaker 6 (12:09):
We haven't been to the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
No, because ultimately your GM and your your ownership have
to figure that out. Right, if that's going to put
it in a place where they can't win because you
decided to pay TJ.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
Watt, well, then you made a bad choice. As much
as you may love TJ. Watt.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
Right, everybody operates under the same financial rules, which we
got word today from the Packers. And this is the
other Mike Brown thing in terms of why do I
need to pay these guys the moneies keep going. It's
the Jerry Jones argument when people say, well he should
step away from this or whatever.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
It's like he created this crazy ass world. Right.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
Mark Murphy gave his first financial report taking over as
the president of the Packers is out of a report
from Rob Damofski one hundred and thirty eight million dollars
per team. The revenue share from the national revenues today
four hundred and thirty two point six million dollars per team.
So it's awful easy to just say, we could be great,

(13:10):
we could be right in the middle.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
We could not pay these guys. The money's still gonna flow.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
Sure, the money's still gonna flow, But if your TJ. Watt,
is it more important for you to get that playoff
win because it's unacceptable and again one person doesn't do it?
Or is it is it more important for you to
be the highest paid non quarterback in the NFL for
the second time in your career.

Speaker 6 (13:37):
So that's where I think.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
It's where where I'm a little I don't I don't
want to be in anybody's pockets. But obviously they're now
tied up with him for forty one million dollars a year.
And then you're saying, well, we you know it's it's unacceptable.

Speaker 6 (13:54):
Well, one player isn't going to do it?

Speaker 5 (13:56):
There does if you're now the highest paid non quarterback
the National Football League, maybe there is more added responsibility.
Maybe I'm wrong in that, but I also just find
an interesting It sounds a bit hypocritical because you're not
necessarily giving your team the flexibility. There's a reason why
he got forty one million dollars a year because it
would tops the other Miles Garrett tops. So yeah, so

(14:20):
you've got like there's a reason why that number was set.

Speaker 6 (14:25):
And that's that's just the part that I that I
just wonder, I it is something to reconcile.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
I get it, because now well is if you'd take
it a little bit of massaging, kind of.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Like the waven stretch stuff that n behavior.

Speaker 5 (14:39):
It's thirty million a year, right like it's it probably
helps the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
You know what else would help? Right now, you're in
a leadership vacuum with the NFLPA, so nobody's there at
the office to yell at you that you're doing anybody wrong.
It's true because all those folks are getting wiped out

you if you live in the greater Detroit area. Just
keep an eye on he might be there getting his
sack of sliders.

Come on board.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Fantasy and NFL breakdowns with slices of life along the
way from random stories with our children and our interactions
here at Fox Sports Radio. No question, download it wherever
you get your podcast, give it five stars. Evangelized to
family and friends. We'll love you forever, just like you
do with the podcast for this show each and every night,
but we'll get ready to do all the full rankings

(18:18):
and breakdowns and elaborate settings, maybe some cool mood music
and for the video part of it, a light show,
no question about it, like we're back in the Pink
Floyd heyday. But all of that to say, the running
back position. Many espouse the zero RB philosophy with the
number of workloads, splits that we've seen, the injuries that

(18:41):
we've seen. Maybe folks going back to the well. In
twenty twenty five, Dan a little gun shy after going
back to the well on Christian McCaffrey a year ago
and wondering what transpires here in a new look NFL,
more and more of the passing game, Like we talked
about Caleb Williams little bit, and they put up the

(19:01):
he wants to complete seventy percent of his passes. Well,
guess what he's going to need running backs to catch
about one hundred and eighty five passes.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
If that's going to happen.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
Between them out of the backfield, Loveland a little bit
of comet, it's going to be a lot of well
zero minus five to five. Oh wait, that was his
shot chart a year ago. Looks much to say, if
you want to get to seventy percent, now, donet it.
But all of that to say, we've got some new
guys kind of breaking in. When you look at consensus rankings,
curious to see where you fall on this. As we

(19:31):
go back to the twenty twenty four season, you're king
and this is including week eighteen. So hang a star
because there's a very big performance that did it. Jamiir
Gibbs was the number one running back in PPR leagues
last year. Of course when you include Week eighteen, where
he ran for one hundred and thirty nine yards and
three touchdowns, also catching five balls out of the backfield

(19:55):
for thirty one yards and a touchdown. Yeah, that gave
you an extra forty six points. Means you pull him
back down. That would have put him fifth behind Saquon Barkley.
Jean Robinson had himself a big game too, so he's
in the mix. Derrick Henry finished fourth, and then Devon
Chen who we referenced earlier in our conversation about the

(20:17):
Miami Dolphins. On the strength of his seventy eight receptions
a year ago, he was the number five running back.
He had four games of at least twenty six and
a half points.

Speaker 5 (20:26):
Well, I feel like the Gibbs thing was for as
great as he was Mike, you had to have a
couple of things happen. You had to have your defense
fall apart and have nobody healthy. You also needed David Montgomery.

Speaker 6 (20:38):
To be hurt.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
He got hurt and wasn't unavailable during the playoff weeks
where Gibbs really made his head.

Speaker 6 (20:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:43):
So like I look at that and that's where I say, Okay,
not that he's not good to produce, but for the
number one overall rankings, because when I go into this year,
it's two guys. For me, it's either Barkley or it's Bijon,
Like that's where where I am in two terms of
the rankings and where we are at the top. But
Gibbs to me was the guy that you're hoping Henry

(21:06):
or CMC or someone maybe just moves up or would
want to take someone on the name brand value.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
But what he did at the end of the year
now just makes him. I think.

Speaker 5 (21:18):
I think a lot of people's favorites. I think that
there could be some hiccups considering the lack of what
they lost now for what you have in Chicago and
even in on Aaron Glenn's staff with the Jets. But
that's why I just think I think Barkley and bej
On are the top two for me.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
It's funny when you take gibbs final four games off
the board, so no, David Montgomery defense falls apart, and
that giant forty six point performance week eighteen the other
fourteen weeks of the year, and obviously you got to
buy mixed in there. You're looking at about eighteen points
a week versus his twenty six plus and that giant

(21:58):
forty six week eighteen performance.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
But I think you're right. I mean Atlanta's a team.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
That everybody's jumped on board as a squad, still have
to figure out the quarterback position in terms of sloughing
off Kirk Cousins or just letting him sit there and
then break glass in case of emergency with Michael Pennix,
but seeing how tenable that is. I've not yet watched
the full Quarterback Show this time around. I'll get to

(22:24):
it eventually, made.

Speaker 6 (22:25):
Obviously, I think I watch the first one.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
I watched most of the first year. I was entertained.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
Right now, I just I caught up on the Owen
Wilson Golf Show on Apple Plus.

Speaker 4 (22:36):
That's pretty good. Mark Maron and he have a good
camaraderie and the kids are pretty fun.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
And then Gilded Age because I love the growth of
New York City in the eighteen eighties.

Speaker 4 (22:49):
That's what I'm all about right there.

Speaker 5 (22:51):
Totally down with it showing my age right now, Jason
can sit back and talk about the eighteen eighty in
New York City and when it's like.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
That, that why they had baseball in the last episode.

Speaker 9 (23:04):
So there you go.

Speaker 6 (23:05):
So you gotta check out this hot new game. You
never know, Buddy double days go a little bit.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
Of pickle over there, So yeah, they in hilarity ensues,
but that's it. You know, stream a lot of streaming,
but quarterback just sits out there as a Do I
care enough?

Speaker 4 (23:20):
Because with a lot of this stuff, and you know.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
The Chiefs have their mini series thing coming out, like
if it's happened like right now, I don't care. Like
I like the stories from thirty years ago. I was like, god,
you remember that, you know this game? Oh yeah, this
guy was drunk as hell in the locker room and
wanted to fight everybody, and then we got out on
the field and we had to point him in the
right drum like stories like that. Okay, I want that
stuff as opposed to you know, we just won the

(23:44):
title six months ago. I just got off the buffet
line and we got to get back to work. Wait,
you want to pay me what to be part of
this interview?

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Okay? Cool?

Speaker 4 (23:52):
Yeah, we won last year and now we're gonna try again.
There you go. Hey, that's great. I don't care. And
all the quarterbacks, Hey, look at Cousins.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
The best thing about him was that his wife picks
out his wardrobe and he shops cheaply, and he had
a Harry Potter like cupboard for all his awards.

Speaker 5 (24:08):
Like that was the highlight that I think, I think
and I think some of that I I don't know.
Sometimes it's difficult to tell what's real and what's not.
And to bring it back to the running backs.

Speaker 6 (24:19):
Yeah. The only reason I say this because I'm looking at.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
Derrick Henry and his purple pants running over the Cincinnati Bengals.
More purple, more is better for everybody. I just I
can't bet against him. I'm curious on what your top
five is. But when I made my top five, I
know this is going to sound crazy, but I have
Derreck Henry number three. I just until he doesn't do

(24:42):
it anymore, until it's there's there's the drop that we
expect to see. I'll just I'll because I don't want
to bet against him. So I am down for for
Derrick Henry. I think it's going to be a huge
year for the Baltimore Evans. Quite honestly, I'm about to

(25:02):
pick them in the Super Bowl as we get closer
and closer, and.

Speaker 6 (25:06):
I just think he's going to be a huge part
of it.

Speaker 5 (25:08):
Now if if he falls down, wouldn't be the first
time it's happened to me did it with Michael Turner,
and I'm just wrong time there, cod right.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
The wheels haven't come off.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
And if you were to go back to last year,
as much as you love the offensive line and everything
that you knew Saquon Barkley could be, it was hard
to place a huge bet necessarily on him to go
through a full season. Yeah, let alone what he ended
up doing, right, Christian McCaffrey, we had how many cautionary
tales did we talk about during the pre season episodes

(25:41):
of the Eyewatch flex of going okay, if it breaks right,
then yeah he can replicate fine, but he's already been injured.
Does the body hold up again? And quite clearly it didn't,
And a lot of people crapped out right at the
top of their draft.

Speaker 5 (25:57):
It may seem hypocritical because I think, I because I
put Jon number one on my list, with Sakwan two
and then with Derrick Henry three. I just think Bjon's
going to get his whether Tyler Algier is not. And
the reason why Michael Penis is so low in rankings
is because of Atlanta's ability to run the football, So

(26:17):
it may seem a bit contradictory. Mike where I think
that Michael Penix could sneak into a top ten as
a quarterback when a lot of people are having him
in twenty two to twenty four. In that sort of range,
I see Atlanta's going to be really good on offense.
They've got a good offensive line, and it's why I
put Bjon number one. And I just I don't think
that Barkley and the Eagles are going to match the

(26:39):
magic that it was last year, So I just imagined
some regression in that part.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
So sixty one catches last year for Bijon out of
the backfield obviously, the explosive speed and they're a run
first team period. I mean, Penis will have his and
he's going to get shots downfield, there's no question about it,
and there's going to be some massive games. But from
Bijon week to week, Yeah, he's the guy. He was
caged a couple of years ago, so they saved him

(27:08):
for good. Like my mom used to do with all
the gifts we'd give her. Hey, Mom, what's this in
the back of the closet. Oh, that's what we gave
you five years ago. Thanks for using it, appreciate you. Oh,
by the way, White SOX eleven raise nine, mom U
long asleep but whatever, I'll text her again when the
show's over. But yeah, bijon number one for me. Number two,

(27:29):
I'm gonna go to a chan again. The explosiveness, the
ability to know Jehan new Smith. Yeah, so, dumping the
ball in the backfield, and again some of the jail
break screen opportunities. Although I have to go back and
look how good a pass blocker is Jalen Waddell or
any of these secondary wide receivers, because they're gonna need
to open up some stuff downfield. Because Tyreek Hill just

(27:50):
go run, go routes and take a couple of defenders
with you and give me that side of the field.
So I'll take a chance. Two number three, I go
back to your guy, Derrick Henry until the eels fall off.
Ronnie Stanley. They re signed he was.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
Healthy and that that was the cog that made it
all work on a big level. Last year.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
They finally got those guys in the trenches that had
They finally exercised all those demons and made plenty of
jokes through the years between the Chargers, Chargers and the
Ravens how many injuries they had between them that beyond
the staff, whatever deep cleaning you needed in the training facilities,
they finally did it. So there's three four, we got
Barkley and number five. I'm gonna bring in Ashton genty.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
Mmm, just because because of Chip Kelly and they're his
his loving of running the football.

Speaker 3 (28:38):
I think running the football. But again, you know, I
I like Gino. I don't love Geno, but Pete Carroll
loves Gino. Chip Kelly's gonna use They've got a couple
of widers and they're not all world beaters, right, you
got brock Bauers quite obviously, but your wide receivers are
all good BC guys.

Speaker 4 (28:55):
There's nobody that's that's a number one.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
But they're gonna distribute the ball well, spread it out,
feedbours as they will. I think Genti's touchcount just flies
through the roof.

Speaker 6 (29:05):
I am.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
I'm with you on beijon number one. I had Barkley two,
Henry three. I put Jumior Gibbs for. I put Jonathan
Taylor five for maybe. How we talked about the Colts
quarterback position. Yeah, Manzi's giving me the look on the
Colts quarterback position. I just I don't believe in it.
So I think you're gonna get a lot of Jonathan Taylor.
My wild card to break into the top five. Out

(29:27):
Chase Brown for what we talked about with the Bengals.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
But it's funny, right, because he's a guy that excelled
once again despite a putrid offensive line. Yes, right, he
replaced Joe Mixon. He goes down to Houston, has himself
a magnificent year, no question about it. But Chase Brown
was everything and then he was supposed to be in
a workload split suddenly becomes the guy. And what did

(29:53):
he finish tenth I think last year? Yeah, or eighth,
ninth or tenth right behind Alvin Kamara. A few more
passes despite missing three games down the end of the stretch. Yeah,
p half PPR ppr. You know it's gonna move a
guy a spot or two. But anyway, the point is
guy excelled even with the robust passing game and no

(30:15):
O lines.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
So yeah, Chase.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
Brown's a guy that is intriguing. And I always love
Jonathan Taylor, right, but is this offense? Is the offensive
line good enough?

Speaker 4 (30:27):
That? That is the billion dollar question?

Speaker 5 (30:29):
The lost pieces via free agency, they all went to
Minnesota that's right, and injury is a part of it.

Speaker 6 (30:38):
But bad division.

Speaker 5 (30:40):
So we talked about earlier who else is going to
challenge him in Indianapolis? And if you have questions at
the quarterback position, why not rely in your running back?

Speaker 3 (30:50):
Well you might also take direction and apps before it's
all said around, I mean, you have no idea. I mean,
we just put the ball in your best player's hands
as quickly as you get it.

Speaker 5 (30:58):
It's risky because it's risky because of injury, and maybe
that's why Monzi's giving me the look. But I would
rather take that possibility than maybe sign up for someone
on a for different reasons. I was going to say,
I a bad team with the Colts, maybe bad as well,
which we think we could. So maybe I'm not making
my point as well as I would have hoped. But

(31:18):
I just think he's kind of the only thing that
they've got.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
Yeah, you go back and look at some of his
weekly output. Obviously missed three games six, seven, and eight
Jacksonville where he really could have piled up some numbers. Again,
Tennessee and Miami last year. Taylor's a guy. I just
love to watch the guy work work behind Well, I'm
still three yards and a cloud of dust man. When
it's all said and done, the passing games all finding good.

(31:43):
Give me a good running game and a tough offensive line.

Speaker 5 (31:47):
Missed three games and still had over three hundred carries.
Missed the three games, it was fifth in the NFL
and carries.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
So just make sure you have an extra set of
tires on Boyeah because the tread might be done.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
Ward.

Speaker 5 (32:00):
I know you're thinking, gosh, Dan, he's gonna be worn down,
know what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (32:03):
Again, He's the only thing.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
They have and he had a full off season to recover.
Let's go hyperbaric chamber get after it. That and the
Jaguars still stink. So he's Dan bire out my garment
here in Fox Sports rad and Tennessee like you've got
division games, you can go make Hay as he's done
in the past. Let's go over to the news desk.
Bonzi beladios, She's gonna give you her running backs? Or

(32:25):
why she hates Jonathan Taylor? No, I followed by the
scores of today.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
I truly do not dislike Jonathan Taylor.

Speaker 9 (32:31):
That was just a shocking name to hear. He, you know,
has not been as relevant as he was even let's
say two years ago. There's just so many running backs injuries.
Brown injuries. Absolutely, Chase Brown was definitely a savior in
my fantasy last year, So I will keep an eye
on him. Jean Robinson, I've had him. I've had the
number one pick the last two years and I've picked him,

(32:52):
and I feel like, do I go again with him?

Speaker 4 (32:54):
You guys are talking about Bijeon.

Speaker 6 (32:56):
I'm like, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 9 (32:58):
So just Jonathan Taylor not a name I was expecting
to hear.

Speaker 4 (33:01):
But here's the thing.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
If you draft based on what we say, you have
a microphone quite often here at Fox Sports Trade sometimes
I do, as well as fifty thousand people at Dodger
Stadium to tell them how dumb I am.

Speaker 4 (33:15):
Well Dan is and blame us for not at all,
not at all.

Speaker 9 (33:18):
I just you know, when you keep picking the same player,
You're like, I have to I have to change it.
That's where I That's where I'm coming from. But hearing
you guys say that, I'm like, man, if I happen
to get the number one pick again, am I really
gonna go for a third year with Beijon?

Speaker 6 (33:30):
That's all it is.

Speaker 9 (33:31):
But he's been he's great, and I think he'll even
have a better year. But it's just like, do I
change it up, spice it up? I'm not sure yet.
Training camp has obviously started across the NFL. No Trey
Hendrickson did not report. The Bengals placed him on the reserve.
Did not report list. But Russell Wilson is a giant
starting quarterback. That was what was said by Brian Dable today,

(33:52):
So at least we got that out of the question.
In baseball, the Red Sox were down five runs.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
They came back.

Speaker 9 (33:57):
They held on nine to eight against the Phillies and
eleven innings. Rome Gonzalez had a Grand Slam in the
fifth inning when they took the lead. Bryce Harper hit
his three hundred and fiftieth career home run in the loss.
Aaron Judge hit his thirty seventh homer of the season,
but the Blue Jays outscored the Yankees eight to four.
Toronto now has a four game lead on New York.

Speaker 6 (34:16):
In the al least, the.

Speaker 9 (34:17):
Dodgers walked it off four to three against the Twins,
who walked it off Freddie Freeman. Of course, whether it's
the World Series or the regular season. A two RBI
single Dodgers win at four to three show. Hey Otani
also homered for the fifth consecutive game, tying a Dodgers
franchise record. After the game, Dave Roberts did mention that
Mooki Bets could miss Friday series opener against his former team,

(34:37):
the Red Sox due to a personal reason.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
The Rangers edge the A's two to one.

Speaker 9 (34:42):
The White Sox top the Rays eleven to nine. Guardians
had a three to two victory over the Orioles, but
the best team in baseball belongs to the Milwaukee Brewers.
They had seventeen hits today took down the Seattle Mariners
ten to two. Milwaukee is now sixty one and forty
one on the season. In the WNBA, Kitlin Clark still
dealing with that right growing injury, so she has been
ruled out for Thursday's game.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
Against the Aces.

Speaker 9 (35:04):
And in college hoops, USC five star freshmen Elijah Arenas
suffered a meniscus tear and is expected to be sidelined
for at least six to eight months. It's been fun, guys,
back to you.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
Thanks so much.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Mons Mark she again tomorrow. If you still want to
get in on your betting market. You can still get
nine to one odds on the Brewers to win the NL.

Speaker 5 (35:27):
There were twelve to one, like I think during the
All Star break, so they's fallen.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Still rolling.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
Better for me is they're also ahead of the Cubs, yeh,
which is good for good for business.

Speaker 5 (35:37):
I had a thing more Brewers fans cared about just
be first place in the Anal Central doesn't matter all
of baseball.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
Well how about we just also start just going back
and revering that nineteen eighty two squad that they now
are matching up with with some of these record issues,
you know, and everything, so we can get some more
of Harvey wallbangers out there.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Well.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
I also wondered today along those lines, Mike, was there
anybody in Seattle that the Brewers, because they left in
nineteen sixty nine like they were they still are they
still holding on to that grudge after fifty four years,
fifty five years, fifty six years.

Speaker 4 (36:12):
I bet you can find a guy in the stands
if you walked around. It's like the banjo guy in
the Bay Area. I bet you can find.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
Someone Dan add Dan Byron boxes where you find and
buy me over I had swollen No, you know you
would nineteen.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
That is his wheelhouse, no question about it.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Hey, as we finish up, we're gonna talk some Little
League Baseball, some controversy heading towards state. If they'd let
him play, they could win state. Well, why is a
guy not playing and what's the appeal all about.
