Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon, Live from the Fox
Sports Radio studios. And we'll get to Caleb Williams coming
up in a second. But I do have a story
for where should we begin. I'll tell you it's amazing,
but let me just take us. I was thinking about this, like,

(00:51):
you know, last night we watch Capari kappen and score
the big goal in overtime, and I said, I can't
believe this is Sammy kapp and then his kid, one
of my favorite Whalers and Hurricanes of all time. And
I remember what this is. In the early two thousand,
Sammy Kappanan was a player and here's his kid, you know,
like twenty years later. Look, boy, I feel really old.

(01:12):
So tonight, uh, we watched the Winnipeg Jets extend this
series with the Dallas Stars to Game six with their
their four nothing triumph tonight. Right, Okay, that's great, Yeah,
I got it. That's cool. So tonight Vladislav to Mesnikoff
scored a goal to give the Jets a three to
nothing lead. Right, really nice gold power play. Okay, So

(01:34):
I said, okay, Nomestikoff, I guarantee you this is you
have Jenny Nemestnikoff's kid, because I remember him. We Jenny
called him John who played in the nineties. Right. Remember
I worked on NHL Tonight for so many years at ESPNT.
I guarantee this is you have Jenny Nemesnikoff's kid. And
I look it up, but sure enough it is. Right.
So here's a guy I remember watching him play and

(01:55):
I remember, you know, and here's his kid who scores
a game winning goal. Like again, I'm feeling old. But
the reason I remember this is because this is one
of the best stories that I could tell coming off
of NHL Tonight. There was a time Barry Melrose cursed
on the air, but then and then there was this one.
So Bill Pedo was the host of NHL Tonight, right,
who now has been on the air in New York
for the last like dozen or so years. And the

(02:17):
thing is, like everybody at ESPN back in the nineties
early two thousands, they wanted to have a thing, right.
They wanted to have the sport or the show that
was their identity, right because because Sports Center belonged to
Dan and Keith, Right, Like, you know, Steve Levy wanted
to be the hockey guy, and you know, Chris Fowler
wanted to be a football college footballer. Everybody wanted to

(02:37):
have their thing. So Bill Pedo comes in and he's new,
and you know, we start NHL Tonight. He was, I
want that, I want to do that. I want to
do that show. Even though he didn't really know hockey
all that well, he's the nicest guy in the world,
was awesome to work for. Didn't know anything right, so
when we cut it, when we edit a highlight, he
was always would always watch it before it went on
the air. We would write something called a shot sheet,

(02:59):
which to tell him what the action was, like here's
you know, okay, here's the play. Sebastianaha with the puck
on the power play gets it gets it back to
Jacob Slave in slapshot. He scores right, so we could
so it's written down in front so we can see
it a long way. So how you know, it's voicing
over a highlight. So we bring this this highlight to
Pedo that he's got to watch it. Think it was

(03:19):
the Canucks is where Domestic coff played and and it
was you have Jenny Nomestakoff passes to Geno Ojic, who
scores right. So Peto's trying to read as as we're
watching it with him what this is before it goes
on the air and we're watching the highlight, and he goes,
and this is you have you have, you have Genny,
you have Genny Nemess Nomestica and he crosses out. He goes,

(03:43):
this is just gonna be Ojic knocks it in. Well,
you know this is gonna be Ojiic knocks it in.
All right, there we go, and that's how he said
it on the air. Hey break away for the Canucks
to two on one. Geno Ojiic knocks it in his third,
going I've always remembered you have getting domestic off because

(04:05):
of that that that story right there.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
But that's the thing, right, going in and trying to
get the naming right. It's sometimes a very difficult proposition
no matter how much you practice itsmess.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
I could still see him crossing out, going this is
gonna be Ojic knocks it in, all right.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Well, just remember when Dela Vandova was running around for
the calves.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
How sure difficult that was for Barkley. Barkley had a
tough time with Delavandova.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
Yeah, I know that he's struggling very bad.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
You now who had a more difficult time Charles Barkley
pronouncing Matthew Delavandova. Yeah, Or what Caleb Williams is going
to have in store for him with the Bears.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
That she well, they still had the old coaching staff
and we were at odds and they hadn't cleared everything out.
Maybe maybe a little tougher time.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Maybe maybe Chicago is the place quarterbacks go to die.
This is the money. Quote from Caleb Williams father, Carl
Seth Wickersham, ESPN writer who every time you hear Seth Wickersham. Okay,
there's some kind of expos book coming out. Yes, he's
got a book coming out called American Kings, a biography

(05:14):
of the quarterback and he follows different quarterbacks through different
levels of their careers. He follows quarterbacks through high school
and college, playing in the NFL, and once they've retired
from the NFL. Right, So he's got biography quarterback all
different ways. Now, what's making all the headlines is a
story today from the book that involves Caleb Williams. And

(05:34):
if you can't stand Aaron Rodgers stories anymore, you're done
with the Aaron Rodgers offseason drama the last two years. Congratulations,
This is the one that's going to beat it, because
this is the story that's going to go into the
rest of the offseason, into the preseason, and into the
regular season. It's that hot a story. According to Wickersham,
Caleb Williams and his dad Carl were so concerned about

(05:56):
being selected by the Bears, he and his family he
thought about circumventing the NFL draft. They talked with lawyers
about finding a way around the league's CBA, while they
thought about signing with the United Football League, playing a
season there and then being declared a free agent the
next year so we could sign wherever he wanted to
go to big quote from Carl Williams telling Seth Wickersham.

(06:20):
This is not a sources. This is according to the
story Carl Williams telling Seth Wickersham. Chicago is the place
quarterbacks go to die, according to Caleb Williams. According to
the book, Caleb Williams said, do I want to go there?
I don't think I can do it. With Waldron former
Bears O C. Shane Waldron, who coached under Matt Eberflus.
Both of them were let go and now Ben Johnson
is in running things in Chicago. The book comes out

(06:42):
in September and it talks about how Williams did not
want to go to the Bears, and Carl Williams told
several agents in twenty twenty four, I don't want my
son playing for the Bears. They looked at a different
way to try to get him to not go to
the Bears. Doesn't like the CBA, Carl Williams saying it's
the worst piece of blank I ever read. It's the

(07:02):
worst in sports history. And Kayleb Williams wound up getting
drafted by the Bears. Two big points to make about this,
Number one, and there's very few tenants that I remember
talking about going back fifteen twenty years that are still
true today because sports evolves all the time. But the
next time a story comes out involving an athlete's family member,

(07:26):
parent or wife and it's a positive story, that will
be the first one. It never is good when a parent, wife,
family member gets involved in an athlete. Sorry, tell me
one time where you've heard about it, where it's been
a good story. There are none because now here's Carl Williams.
And it's not like Caleb Williams is blameless, and it's
like Carla Caleb Williams seemed to be on the same page.

(07:47):
We don't want to go to Chicago. We don't want
to go to Chicago. But here's his dad who apparently
knows just enough to be dangerous, but not enough to
actually do what he wants, which was to get him
away from Chicago. Because he's dangerous enough to know, Hey,
I don't want him playing for the Bears. Let's try
to find a way legally to move on from playing
with the Bears so we don't have to go there.
But not doesn't know enough to say, Okay, if I'm

(08:10):
putting this narrative out there and everybody knows it, and
a guy's writing a book, about it, and it's gonna
come out because I've said things to him about the
Bears and Caleb Williams. He doesn't know enough to pull
the power play to have him not get drafted by
the Bears. So all of this is going on, all
this that he's saying very publicly, all the meetings that
he has had with agents, I don't want to go
to Chicago. Don't want to go to Chicago. I want

(08:32):
to go No, no, no, no, no no no, But
doesn't pull the power play he needs to to not
get Caleb Williams of the Bears. So we're so upset
about him going there, does not want him to go there,
goes to all these extents, talking to lawyers, all this stuff,
and then in the end, yeah, I'm okay getting drafted
by the Bears. How do you do that? That makes
no sense. That's just stupid. You didn't care, so you

(08:53):
cared so much, did not want him to be there. Yet, No,
he's getting drafted. I watched Eli Manning and and Archie
Manning pull exactly what you wanted to do. Hey, we're
drafting you number one, sorry, but I'm not signing there.
And you put the pressure on them and the Bear's
really gonna come out of that draft with a guy
that says I'm not signing there, or are they gonna
trade him somewhere or you want to go sometime the

(09:15):
next three or four picks, because that's what happened, and
three picks later, the Chargers traded Eli Manning for Philip Rivers.
That's exactly what would happened. You had to play poker
at the highest level. Again, not ready to go as
far as he needed to go to to get his
son out of a situation neither wanted to be in.
They went in halfway, and again they didn't have the
guts to say. I get that you don't want to

(09:35):
go to Chicago. I get Chicago where you think quarterbacks
go to die. I get you don't want to go
play for Shane Walden who likes to run the football
all the time. I get all of that. But man,
you gotta do something to make sure that doesn't happen.
And instead you got drafted by the team. And now
you know that eventually these stories are going to get out,
and now here they are getting out, and all of

(09:56):
a sudden, Caleb Williams put a clock on his time
in Chicago, because if he's not good out of the gate,
everybody's gonna want to move on from him. His teammates
are gonna be mad, the fans are gonna be mad,
the media is gonna be mad. I guarantee you he's
never gonna get the benefit of the doubt, and and
and even if he wins, the minute he goes to
a three game losing streak, it's gonna be an avalanche

(10:17):
of anti Caleb Williams. He's never going to outlasses. It's
gonna follow him everywhere he goes in Chicago. I don't
know that they need to trade him eventually at some point,
no matter what happens. But if he doesn't get out
of the gate fast, because it's gonna be a story
hanging over this team for the next three months. He
doesn't get out fast, the Bears are gonna say, Okay,
we have to move on from him, right, we have

(10:38):
to move on because he hasn't played how we thought
we were going to. We drafted him number one, and
he's blow torching the entire city. He's blow torching the
entire city with I never I never wanted to be there.
I never wanted to be there. I never wanted to
be people are that I never how all of a
sudden he wants to be there now. Yeah, but that

(11:00):
it's that it's a Chicago pie. Let me say, here's
the coaches that stink.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Here's the history of what you have as an organization,
what you've done with quarterbacks all these years. It's not
a I hate Chicago. No, I hate the city.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
I'm not saying it's no. It doesn't matter. You're not
saying I hate this. But the fans are smarter that
has no. No. You don't want somebody where they don't
want to be. You don't want somebody where they don't
want to be. If you're having a party and a
guy shows up at your party saying, this party sucks.
I never wanted to be here. Go you don't want
that guy at your party. You gotta go.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Yeah, but it's a guy who's coming in and eventually,
after a pre draft visit, looked to his dad and said,
I can do this.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
I want to go to the Bears.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Right.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
It took a little convincing, but we all sometimes need
someone to give us a little bit of an extra
push and a shove of uh. You know that you
need a little bit more information about the situation you're
walking into. And with eber Fluse sitting on the floor
evidently chewing his toenails.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
He was a problem.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Right, He shouldn't have been there, and anybody capable of
rational thought knew. He only got the reprieve of like,
all right, we'll give you a year with Caleb. We'll
let you come in and we'll see if it's a
tenable situation, which clearly it wasn't.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Everybody that had half a brain knew that that guy.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
Was in over his head.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
And there have been countless instances in the last year
that Caleb went out of his way. Or should I
call him Williams or mister Williams, I don't know, because
if I say mister Williams, maybe we're talking.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
About his dad.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Where he has been a guy that's embraced the city,
has shown up at all sorts of events, shaking hands,
kissing babies on the field. Number of times he could
have tapped out, he kept getting up like a punch
drunk fighter. Now oftentimes he caused some of those problems,
should have gotten rid of the ball before he took
the hit. But Dad, he stood in and he took

(13:01):
the hint or was he trying.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
To get rid of his head coach and offensive coordinator. Well,
but that's that's another thing. You have to ask another
thing too, man by another thing too.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
But before he showed up, did we not have reservations
about the coordinator and the coach?

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Before Caleb Williams was the guy that showed up there.
So did he order the code red?

Speaker 5 (13:26):
No?

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Did he help exacerbate the problems, yeah? Probably, but did
he do so maliciously?

Speaker 2 (13:33):
No?

Speaker 3 (13:33):
I think it underscored something I thought with roster construction.
So I'm going to take a pat myself on the back.
You didn't do anything to help the offensive line to
give the kid a chance. So all of that to say,
now you're at a point where evidently it's a love fest.
Ben Johnson was on with Colin Coward, who was the
first to trumpet the alarms of hey, they don't necessarily

(13:54):
want to go to Chicago all the way back in
February of last year. So this has been festering a
long long time. I think he's the people's champion until
he's not.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Uh huh. He never wanted to be there. They met
with labor lawyers to overturn the CBA all of a sudden,
it don Hey I can do this. Oh yeah, yeah, great,
go to Chicago. Yeah, the Bears will be great for it. Yes,
but why would you not do it?

Speaker 4 (14:17):
Right?

Speaker 3 (14:17):
If you believe if you don't like the way the
system is constructed, shouldn't you question the authority?

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Did go all the way? Because if you're going that
far to say I hate the Bear, I don't want
to go there, how do you not ensure you're not
playing with the Bears?

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Like that's the thing though, like you decided after a
lot of evaluation. One you may not have had any
other options. But two, you didn't want to nuke the city.
That's the other quote, And that'll be on T shirts tomorrow,
just like all the Pope merch is out there all
over the place. I didn't want to nuke the city.
Number thirteen underneath it.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Hey, that's how much I love it. I didn't want
to nuke it. Oh that's great. Oh you must love us? Yes, yeah,
this is gonna trust me. If he doesn't start out hot,
this is the last here for Caleb Williams and no choice.

friend Mike Hartman live for the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Time out. Take a look at what we're going to
see in a big way tomorrow and beyond that with
us now are Vegas Insider former ODS maker at Caesar's.
Check out his bet the Board podcast. See him on

(17:08):
CBS as well. He's on Twitter at Todd Furman. It
is Todd Ferman. Todd. What's happening, man, gentlemen.

Speaker 6 (17:16):
I'm glad you guys were able to do the show tonight.
I figured you'd still be waiting in line at Chavez
Ravine for your very own show.

Speaker 7 (17:21):
Hey Otani Boblehead.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
Well, I actually got to pitch in the eighth inning,
so I feel pretty good about that. I struck out Otani,
I saved the ball. It's good.

Speaker 6 (17:30):
Well, it couldn't have gone worse than anybody dining in
Oakland Athletics Jersey or what do you call just the
Athletics I guess now not the open Athletic given that
they were very complicit in trying to throw a batting
practice to make sure show Hey could pat his stats.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Well, you know, they gotta make sure the fans leave
happy on his bobblehead night, you know.

Speaker 6 (17:47):
I mean, look, if you're waiting in line for a
bobblehead for sixty three hours or whatever it was, like
it was a Black Friday sale at best Buy in
the old days, you may as well hope that the
player who's bobblehead you're trying to go home with is
going to go out there and produce. So credit to
the eighth for definitely participating and doing their fair share.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Well, the foolishness there though, Todd is they've already announced
for all Otani bobbleheads. Anybody that shows up and has
a ticket gets one, so there's no sit there like
an ad.

Speaker 6 (18:16):
That's the best part about all of this because that
happened for the last time and people thought they were
going to be a limited edition. So I don't exactly
understand the incentive unless you're using it as a viable
excuse to get out of a day of work or
avoid going to school that you had to wait in
line for a bobblehead that everybody is going to get
once they set foot in Chevezervin.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
Maybe they've done some math with a big algorithm that
the any special addition gold.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
Or mutant ones are at the end.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (18:42):
I mean, look, you're the one that does sports them
rbilia at a high level harm So maybe they were
going to only offer so many Gemmint tens and that
was what.

Speaker 7 (18:49):
People were looking for, so they made sure it was
proper grading.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Hight called in sick. I can't work today, it's Sotani
bobblehead day. You just get somebody to cover from here.
People called in for less Todd. I want to ask
you about insider information.

Speaker 7 (19:05):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (19:06):
I don't have any idea what you're talking about.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
I must time.

Speaker 7 (19:08):
I remember of Congress trying to take advantage of the
stock market these days.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
So listen, you'll obviously you know you hear the phrase
all the time. Vegas knows something, Vegas knows something. Yesterday
we had the schedule release and week one is the
Steelers against the Jets. Clearly the Steelers, who are the
odds on favorite to land Aaron Rodgers. And the quote
from the NFL today said, listen, we just played it
down the middle. We had no knowledge, no knowledge of

(19:32):
anything going on with Aaron Rodgers where he's going to sign.
Do you believe that.

Speaker 6 (19:37):
I mean, I do believe that the NFL is still
a little bit in the dark. If Rogers is going
to be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. What I
can tell you from a bookmaking perspective, and speaking of
some of the odds makers out here, this number insinuates
that it will be Aaron Rodgers under center for the Steelers,
because the number would be a little bit shorter than
Mason Rudolph. But look, Smith, I think you're bearing the
lead completely.

Speaker 7 (19:58):
Why does it have to be.

Speaker 6 (19:58):
Aaron Rodgers playing for the Steelers. Can we just highlight
this as a Justin Fields revenge game taking place on
that first Sunday on September seventh. Maybe that's the storyline
the NFL was after more than anything else that could
potentially take place here.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
You know, I didn't think about that, tod see. See,
that's why you do the odds that I could just see. Hey,
forget about Opening Night, forget about Eagles Cowboys. I want
to see the Justin Field's revenge game. That's what I want.

Speaker 7 (20:23):
You know.

Speaker 6 (20:24):
The good thing about this game, at least the way
it sets up on paper right now, it is the
lowest total that we're going to see in Week one.
It's a full field goal lower than the number right
now being hung for the Arizona Cardinals against the New
Orleans Saints game. And that may involve a twenty seven
year old rookie quarterback in Tyler Shuck. So kudos to
the Jets, who will probably run the ball more than
some service academies this year to keep their defense off

(20:45):
the field. And a Pittsburgh Steelers team whose quarterback room
right now is Mason Rudolph Skyler Thompson and rookie Will Howard.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
What's the old wonder for that game? Right now? Sixteen
and a half seventeen plus the over.

Speaker 6 (20:55):
Under getting close to where that first half total will be.
We can only hope that mother Nature decides to dump
about two feet of snow on Malle Stadium to really
sell it and drive.

Speaker 7 (21:04):
This game home.

Speaker 6 (21:05):
But in optimal conditions in early September, we're looking at
a thirty nine to thirty nine and a half.

Speaker 3 (21:11):
Was there anything now that we got our sequencing, our
international games, our primetime windows, anything that helped move any
of the markets for individual squads.

Speaker 6 (21:24):
The New England Patriots beneficiary of the way their schedule
sets up, breaking in a lot of new pieces on
the roster and immediate.

Speaker 7 (21:30):
Upgrade at the head coach spot.

Speaker 6 (21:32):
But you know, the Patriots for the first nine weeks,
I don't have the schedule in front of me. Won't
be more than a field goal underdog other than their
game against the Buffalo Bills until they played the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers. So the Patriots are team that could get
a little bit of over money in the market. I
haven't gotten there myself, but I've made worse bets than
trying to bet New England at around plus one seventy
to make the playoffs. The Lions, a team that we

(21:54):
know is going to look a little bit different with
a fresh face at offensive and defensive coordinator. Their win
total ten and a half. I would anticipate some under
money coming in there. You know when it'll hit the
market remains to be seen. And for the New York Giants,
their regular season win total sits at five and a half.
Schedule extremely daunting for a last place schedule. But you

(22:14):
know what, if I'm looking through the Week one slate,
I'm almost ready to put the Washington commanders on upset alert.
I wouldn't be shocked if the Giants find a way
to pull off a Patriots over Bengals type shocker Week.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
One Vegas insider Todd Furman, our guest Jason Smith, Mike
Carbon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. All right,
so to the weekend action now in the NBA, and
we start tomorrow night with the party that's going to
happen following the Knicks win over the Celtics, and they
cover Todd agree or disagree.

Speaker 6 (22:43):
I don't know if the Knicks will win. And so
by that thought process, I'm not sure they'll cover as
they modest two and a half point favored in this game.
You know, what I think is interesting is the total
that opened to shade lower than where it currently sits
at two to eight and a half. I know, going
into a pivotal Game five, the saft process was the
Celtics would struggle a little bit more offensively, and that
wasn't quite the case. But it's definitely a downgrade when

(23:04):
you lose one of your better defenders in Jason Tatum.
So I think going over the total makes a little
bit of sense right now with the number sitting at
two and nine and a half. The one thing I
will say in regards to the next all of the
pressure shifts squarely to the New York Knicks trying to
close this thing out. But would shock anybody if the
Knicks dropped this game in stylish fashion at home, went
on the road and took care of business in Game

(23:26):
seven and hostile territory, given how much better the Knicks
have been away from MSG this postseason than they've been
in their own building.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
Anything in the props market that interests you, you know,
any of the Jalen Brunson futures that he tries to
put this team on his back or a Karl Anthony
Towns kind of excitement.

Speaker 6 (23:43):
Well, I think Brunson has to be a high volume shooter,
and I think that's where the big concern comes in.
It will Boston look to isolate him in some of
the defensive matchups because we know he is a little
bit of a weak link on that side. And look,
if you're going to try and be the team's go
to score, especially if it's one possession game late, you
know no guy that I'd want the ball in his
hands more than than Jalen Brunson. So when you're looking

(24:05):
at some of those problem markets, I'm sure he'll be
a very popular player or as people look to bet
him over his points and assists combo number for a
pivotal game six.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
All right, Todd, what kind of odds do you give me?
I want odds that sometime in the next twenty four hours,
Caleb Williams says, I love Chicago. What kind of odds
are giving me on that?

Speaker 6 (24:26):
Well, I mean, Caleb Williams needs to really put a
moratorium on his dad speaking to the media. Hopefully he's
got a little bit of damage control working in his favor.
But it is awfully interesting that as soon as the
NFL releases the schedule, they know they can't command headlines.

Speaker 7 (24:40):
Then we find out that Caleb.

Speaker 6 (24:41):
Williams is going to try and do everything he possibly
could to circumvent being drafted by the Bears. And who
can blame him that the city of Chicago hasn't had
a four thousand yard passer donn a Bears jersey, yet
they can put a pope in the Vatican.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
First, do you bet the over of four thousand yards
for Caleb Williams?

Speaker 6 (24:58):
I will I would look to bet him over. I
think he can kind of break that long standing jinx
of sorts for the Bears, what I will say, And
when it comes to their schedule, I'm not clamoring for
them to be a playoff team or kind of exceed
some of those odds makers expectations that are out there.

Speaker 7 (25:13):
So it's going to be very interesting to see.

Speaker 6 (25:15):
What Kayler Williams looks like leading Ben Johnson's offense, knowing
that they're are a wealth of playmakers at his disposal.
We'll see if this defense is improved, but they still
play and arguably the toughest division in the NFL from
top to bottom, So not a whole lot in the
way of easy outs, especially giving all the standalone games
they'll play in and the targets squarely on that team's back.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
All right, Lastly, Todd, you got anything on Clayton Kershaw
and making his debut Saturday for the Dodgers.

Speaker 6 (25:41):
No, Let's hope that Clayton Kershaw, though, can handle his
load management accordingly. Since the Dodgers aren't really playing for
much for the next four and a half months, you
want to try and gradually ease him in. So if
Dave Roberts wants to keep him on a pitch count,
maybe you start with twelve pitches, work them up to
eighteen by the time you get to late September, rowing
seventy five to eighty, and maybe he can get your

(26:02):
five strong innings, you know, in that front of that
Dodgers rotation when you play meaningful baseball deep in October.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Wow, the Todd Furman pitching plan. I've read a book
on that, Todd. People have written books on less. I
read a book.

Speaker 6 (26:14):
I mean, there's no doubt, I'm sure you know. If
I spend a little bit of time with chat GPT
or AI. I can have it spun out and I
can have it as a bestseller on Amazon. Even before
Kershaw makes the season debut on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (26:25):
He's on Twitter at Todd Furman. That is Ad Todd
Furman Bet the Board podcast Sea on CBS. Todd is
always buddy appreciated.

Speaker 5 (26:33):
Man.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
I have a great night. We'll talk to you.

Speaker 7 (26:35):
Always a pleasure, gents. You guys do the same and
enjoy a great weeknd of sports.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
Thanks brother.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
Right, Well, we'll start with the with the next winning
tomorrow night, So we'll start with here you go for
tomorrow Angels to score first inning?

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Yes, plus two eighty.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
The Angels to score in the first well, the a
score in the first inning tonight against the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
So well, I mean it goes to the Kershaw question.
Can he set him down order in the first inning?

Speaker 1 (27:03):
I'll say, yeah, he got a lot of adrenaline going.
I'll say, I'll say, no runs for the Angels of
the first inning.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
All right, there you go, Oh, there you go.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
Got a lot of it. And I don't know how
much he's gonna I assume he'll probably go three ish innings.
When when he when he comes back. I don't think
they're going they're gonna plan on that being a bull
heavy bullpen day. He hasn't pitched in a long time,
so I'm thinking, yeah, if you get three innings out
of Kershaw, that that's kind of where you want to
be at first.

Speaker 5 (27:27):
Game and this is really our last chance. Maybe who
knows that that's seeing? I mean, he's by far of
a Hall of Famer. Oh it's firsts left hand or
I've ever seen.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
He'll be He'll be, He'll he'll be nearly unanimous because
the guy who didn't vote for each Row won't vote
for Kershaw. So that that's that sounds about right. Rob
Parker won't vote for Kirkshaw like you didn't vote.

Speaker 5 (27:49):
For each yell but hate him or love him or
the Dodgers. I mean you gotta watch that and soak
it in.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Yeah, I mean really, because think about this for a second,
just for how many starts do you think he's left
in his career? Is it ten? I said, if I
said ten, would you go over or under?

Speaker 5 (28:07):
Like I'm hoping to go over?

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Yeah, But I don't know, man, I mean we're down
to like we can count the number of times we're
gonna see him pitch.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
So what do we get a couple of starts and
il stint whether it's needed or not, just kind of
a all right monitoring and measuring and keeping an arm
available for September October right to where you're not going
to overwork him here. I mean, we're going to see
a lot more guys called up, like if you had

(28:35):
futures in terms of starts and expectations of guys in
double and triple A. I think the Dodgers are going
to grind through a number of guys before we get
to the trade deadline, and then we go from there.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
Exit out by a fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith,
Mike Harman, just think about that. Whatever some excellence like
that doesn't have a lot left, you want to make
sure you get as much as you can of it.
Time out of find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. MC guy who's been called the Clayton
Kershaw Fox Sports Radio. If he gives you three innings,
you're happy. It's eyes of Low and Crown.

Speaker 4 (29:11):
He's now in Crafty South Balls that.

Speaker 8 (29:13):
We are after we are after ten pm. So there's
a couple of different directions. I could take that comment,
but I will. You know what I'm with all due
respect to Clayton Kershaw, I'd rather recalled the Fox Sports
Radio Johnny Peralta. We'll get to that in just a moment,
because we start with the NBA Playoffs in Denver. Fortsing
at Game seven of the Western Conference semi Finals on

(29:35):
Thursday night with a one nineteen one oh seven win
over Oklahoma City. Nicoli Jokis twenty nine points, fourteen rebounds,
eight assists. Jamal Murray scored twenty five. Game seven on
Sunday at Oklahoma City at three thirty Eastern, and Game
five and the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Thursday, the Winnipeg
Jets stayed alive with a four nothing win over the
Dallas Stars, who still lead the series three games to

(29:56):
two and will host Game six on Saturday. Earlier Thursday,
the Carolina Hurricanes advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals with
a three to one Game five victory over the Washington
Capitals in Round one of the PGA Championship on Thursday
at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jonathan Vegas, forty
year old, originally out of Venezuela via the Texas Longhorns.

(30:18):
He's got a two shot lead after the opening round
shot a seven under sixty four, Scottie Scheffler five shots back,
Masters Champ Rory McElroy a three to over seventy four
in round one, and his ten shots back. Finally, in
Major League Baseball on Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated
the Athletics nineteen to two. But indeed who cares because

(30:43):
in the bottom of the eighth inning, Johnny Peretta of
the A's struck out show Hey Otani. But Otani somehow
was able to atone because of what he did earlier
in the game two home runs, six RBI. He's now
tied for the major league lead with fifteen home runs
in the dodgers nineteen to two victory over the Athletics

(31:05):
best perhaps summed up on social media by hatch Daddy,
who posted, and I quote, I'm not even a fan
of the A's and you guys are donkey but hashtag
damn unquote hashtag back to you guys.

Speaker 1 (31:22):
Wow, okay, then wow we got donkeys in It really
is after ten o'clock. Thank you ILove.

Speaker 8 (31:31):
You know what they call a donkey, right, yeahscause it's
kind of redundant, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
You're right.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
Now.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
The best part of this strikeout of Otani, right, it's
you know Otania Otani you know, was going at almost
had the home run cycle tight, you know, two run homer,
three run homer. So Parada strikes out Otani and Otani
strikes out. He's trying to hit the ball like like
one hundred and fifty miles. It's seventeen to two in
the eighth inning. After he strikes out Otani, catcher throws

(31:59):
the ball back to him. He smiles, and he throws
the ball into the dugout to keep as a souvenir.
I struck out show, Hey ot I'm a position player
and I struck out show. Hey o Toddy uh. It
is a phenomenal piece of video to see he's incredibly excited.
He's smiling, laughing on the mound. He gets the okay

(32:20):
to throw the ball into the dugout to keep it.
Here's how it sounded on Dodgers TV.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
Oh my gosh, you know he was.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
Putting that one in the scrap book. Eighty nine miles
an hour.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
It looks like a ten.

Speaker 1 (32:45):
Johnny Paradic can retire tonight, I and still have a
wonderful story to tell me. Yea, Yeah, and you know what,
good for him. There's a picture of Parda on social
media already at his locker with the ball in a case,
and it's already titled Otani Strikeout May fifteenth, twenty twenty five,

(33:07):
and he said after the game Otani was the only
guy he wanted to face, and he was just glad
he didn't hit it back up the middle because if
he did, it's gonna kill me.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
Oh no, yeah, that's always the danger, right is Look,
you watch position players come in or guys, you know,
occasionally normal starters, and now they're in a relief scenario
like this where the game's gotten out of swords and
their fielding position is terrible, so you know, as they do,

(33:36):
they're followed through a comebacker.

Speaker 4 (33:38):
Could absolutely be devastating.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
So yeah, it's uh, but that video is so great, right,
He's so jacked up, and you can see the adrenaline
to get the ball up into the upper eighties as
he did just absurd.

Speaker 5 (33:53):
So, Jason, he wasn't kidding every pitch to Atani. If
you go watch it back on the replay, he was
get out of the way.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Yeah, yeah, you can switch on.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
Yeah, I can't fault a good strategy. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
The last pitch he threw to Otani to strike him out,
he's backing up like someone stood in front of him
and faked like they were.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
Like.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
He throws the ball and then he begs, you know,
I played in the softball league, like one of those
high arc softball leagues where the pitcher throws the ball
up really high and you have to wait to come down.
I hate I hated those leagues. But the pitcher would
always do the same thing, is that he would he would,
you know, throw the ball up and then he would

(34:39):
back up like five or six steps so he could
get a line drive coming back to him. And that's
kind of what Paraya reminded me of. Here, I'm gonna
throw the ball and gonna back up, so does hit me.
That's prepared for the worst, man, that's the best. He
just begs, he oh, my goodness, done so good. He

(35:00):
swings at that pitch. That pitch is like up in
his eyes Like I'm not saying no, that pitch is
like up in his eye level. He swings at it.

Speaker 5 (35:06):
Oh, Tony gave him charity.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
Woof man exit out. Yeah, oh Tani giving back?

Speaker 4 (35:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Sotani will also be.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
Given back if he signs that ball, because that suddenly
becomes a multi thousand.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
Dollars the game used piece because.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
Of the history and the story that goes with it.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Man, Johnny parreeda a hero for one night, even in
the game you lost by twenty runs. Coming up next,
how is tomorrow going to go in the big NBA game? Lucky?
Mike and I are gonna tell you. That's Jason and
Mike on Alex Tishert's final night here on Fox Sports Radio.
I love you all, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon New York Ago. It's gonna happen tomorrow night.
We'll get to that game coming up in a second.
But this NFL story, it really, it really bothered me today,
right because I think people are focusing on the wrong thing.
All Right, The NFL schedule lease comes out yesterday and

(36:14):
the Chargers win the day their Minecraft video schedule lease
was absolutely fantastic, shaking jockey. I mean, I don't know
you had when you had the Bills wanting to use
AI to announce your schedule. Actually that was really good too.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
All the bet Johnson's in Chicago, I mean, there were
a bunch of them that Actually that weird ass elf
in Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
That was good. But the Colts had to pull their
schedule release video back because they felt it was bad
taste to portray Tyreek Kill the way they did. First
game they put out there with Indianapolis playing the the
Dolphins said, Tyree Kill is a dolphin. He's jumping in
the ocean and he gets stopped by the coastguard. So

(36:55):
they said, okay, you know we we don't want that
out there. Remember Tyree Kill getting stopped by police before
game last year. I get it. I think you're being
a little over dramatic. Even Tyreek Hill thought it was funny.
But I understand that. I get it. You want to
air on the side of caution. But then the Colts
put this statement out. We took down the schedule's video

(37:16):
because of the video we put out in regard to
Tyreek Hill and because of a legal issue with Microsoft.
Wait did you not get because they did a Minecraft
video too, and the graphics weren't nearly as good, But like, wait,
did you not get permission to use Minecraft in your
skimming please? Like the chargers they talked about all the

(37:39):
hoops they jumped through to go to make sure my
Microsoft was okay with it? Did they really just not
get permission so they had to pull it?

Speaker 4 (37:47):
I guess. I mean they also had Rapaport and Schultz
in there.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
Yeah, had them fighting? Sure, Yeah, so you had that.
You had Kyler Murray as a mini chicken jockey. Yeah,
I'm sprinting across. So I mean there were a lot
of points where they kind of got a little fast
and loose. But then don't acknowledge the tyreek Hill thing
in the sense that they had the dirty bubble from SpongeBob.

Speaker 5 (38:12):
Tyreek Hill didn't even care.

Speaker 1 (38:14):
He found it funny.

Speaker 4 (38:15):
But that's what I mean.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
He thought it was funny.

Speaker 3 (38:16):
So I even addressed that and just say, hey, you know,
they they they threatened us with like a lawsuit or something,
a cease and desist. Of course you then have to
produce the season desist because then you could have Microsoft going,
what are you talking about.

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Hey, hey, Jimmy, did you get permission from Microsoft? Permission?

Speaker 4 (38:35):
Jimmy?

Speaker 1 (38:36):
I mean you had Kirk Cousins there. Uh what do
you mean permission, jim.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
You can't just use this.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
But it's social media. We could put anything we wanted there.
We can't just use Minecraft for an official relief. Oh dude.

Speaker 3 (38:50):
They had Mahomes Senior and John Rocker. Yeah, and then
Patrick Mahomes is a frog. I mean they had so
many good little bits in there.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
Eh. But the whole thing is minecrat.

Speaker 8 (39:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
Yeah, we had a whole little legal sneffu. It didn't happen.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
Uh now to the game to and I asked forgiveness
then permission anyway. Well, I don't know about that.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
When when you can get sued for a lot of money,
I think then you kind of have to ask permission.
When money is on the line, you gotta go the
other way.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
Eh, Erses got money. Uh.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
Tomorrow night is going to be a party, right, We're
gonna have pizza. We're gonna order pizza and wings and
have a fight because the Knicks are going to the
Eastern Conference Finals. I had a bad feeling about for
about Game five, but This is Game six at the
This is not gonna be a game. The Knicks show
up flat at I told you my big fear is
Derek White hits a bunch of threes and the Celtics
shut fifty five behind the arc. That's not gonna happen.

(39:47):
The game will be officiated much the physical way the
Knicks played the first few games in the playoffs and
how they've been doing it up until the last game
when Jalen Brunson gets whistled for five thousand and one
quarter and fouls out of the game. That was ridiculous.
I put up with the officiating in game five. Everybody
else has to put up with the officiating. In game six,
the Knicks win, and we're previewing Knicks Pacers, which is

(40:09):
gonna be a knicksweep.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
But are they winning by more or less than two
and a half points?

Speaker 1 (40:13):
Knicks win by ten n East tomorrow ten win in
front and inspired by shadow May Yes shata may sh
in fact, I'll go. I'll be this bold. Chalome gets
to play the final thirty seconds and take a three.

Speaker 5 (40:31):
Is he playing against Kaylee?

Speaker 1 (40:33):
He gets to play because Ben Stiller looks like he's
gonna get on the court, but instead Mriska Hargate hits him,
knocks him down. She goes on the court dishes to
Shallo May who hits the three.

Speaker 4 (40:44):
Yeah, I think we get a game Sevencher, you're.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
Just saying that to be anti kni CA exit out,
a bout of Fresco, Mike and Swelling Dome coming up next,
my buddy Ben Maller. This is Fox Sports Radio.
