the Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.
A huge headline in the National Football League today is
Roger Goodell was on CNBC. He was on with Jim Kramer.
No Yell. They were yelling at each other. What about
bye bye bye bye? What I just got on here? No,

(00:43):
you gotta say it loud to Roger Uh. He was
on CNBC and dropped a bombshell that our Sundays in
the NFL are gonna change forever, very soon because if
you like to watch football on Sundays. Roger Goodell says,
streaming is what's gonna happen, and it's going to happen soon.
We really believe that these new platforms give us an

(01:05):
ability to innovate beyond where we are today and make
the experience for our consumers so much better. So and
it it obviously makes it more available. I think that
this will make it more accessible for fans. I think
it will be a better experience for fans, and we're
excited about it. I mean, it would have been better
if he was on with Jim Kramer, because it would
be he would have been more amped up about it.
It makes it so exciting. Tell me how exciting and

(01:26):
about and think about they could have done the buy
sell and he could have chimed in on teams and
new coaches. Do you think of what the Jets have
done in the draftic bye bye bye. They can't be
as bad as they've been historically. Oh Jim, did I
just say that he comes out in the boxing gloves? Yeah?
What are we gonna buy? What do you buy? Cell?
That's it? Uh So, there's a couple of big things
about this, right because now you're talking about instead of

(01:48):
get direct TV and going through cable your cable provider,
you're now going to go through streaming. And it's likely
going to be Apple plus Amazon or Disney plus that
that those are the three big contenders, And there are
some thoughts that maybe Apple Plus has it locked up already,
and that's where you're gonna have to go. So you're
gonna get ted Lasso, and you're gonna get Mythic Quest

(02:10):
and and you're gonna wind up getting the NFL Sunday Package. Now,
to get this is not gonna be It's not that's
exciting where you can say, oh man, so if I
have Apple Plus, I'm gonna get no, no, no, You're
still gonna have to spend a lot of money for this,
for the rights or streaming services. And it's not just
gonna be included with your Apple Plus subscription. That's twelve
dollars a month. You are going to have to spend
a lot of money. And I'll tell you this, the

(02:32):
price for this is gonna be way higher than it
is now because right now you're gonna get it for
about three hundred bucks a year. Right that's about what
you get it. And I would say, this happens, it's
gonna go streaming. The price for this package will be
at least five dollars. Now. They may include something with it,
like you get three free months of Apple Plus or
or you know, after the season, whatever, it's going to

(02:53):
be but I would say it's gonna be about five
hundred bucks for the year. And if I'm being honest,
for that kind of entertainment you're talking about, it's still
you know, thirty bucks a day for you know, for
seventeen Sundays during the year, for eight hours of coverage.
It breaks down to be pretty cheap. And I'm not
saying five hundred bucks or something you can I can
throw it away. But when you break down, you're talking

(03:14):
about seventeen Sundays of eight hours of content that you're
going to consume thirty dollars for. That is pretty cheap,
al right, Like I think movies are pretty cheap. Like,
you know, it's twelve bucks to go to a movie,
but you're talking about two hours of entertainment, You're okay,
six dollars an hour, you know, to be entertained the
way I am when I go to a movie, it's
still pretty cheap. And and the way the NFL comes right,
I think that's pretty cheap too. So if this goes

(03:36):
up to five dollars, there's gonna be a big outroar outrage,
is what. But I can understand it because this is
what the product demands and it's still the NFL is
providing you with a lot of content. This This is
not where, hey, you're gonna get one game. It's not
Apple Plus Baseball where you get one game. No, this
is gonna be the entire Sunday. Well, you get a
few games on the Friday night and most of them

(03:59):
you don't want to listen to the sound. Yes, I
want to want to break up Fox Sports Radio a
little bit louder, a little bit louder now, but yeah,
look maybe five hundred, but I would suspect there's other
programming that goes with us. Right, this becomes the package
deal behind the scenes of all right, how much more expanded,

(04:20):
you know, alternate views of games? Right, one or two
games are picked to be the here's X athlete and
celebrity and whatever commenting and you know, ask questions and
and just general tom foolery. Not to mention your Apple
TV or Disney Plus or whatever it is is included

(04:40):
for some period of time. Maybe maybe you go all
the way up to a year and just say all right,
you're in, or you go low end to start right,
you go the old you know, forgive the analogy, but
it's one that has always been used. That's how I
pitched the stat tracker all those years ago at Yahoo.
When they're like, all right, how do we monetize things
beyond on clicks? It's all right, here's your taste for free, right,

(05:04):
it's the sample aisle at Costco. It's like, what do
you why you're back again. It's like, hey, I'm getting
a meal all of there. But the the idea that
you get a taste and you like it, and then
when it goes away, you're like, you know what, Sundays
are better with this? Right? With the stat tracker. Back
when everybody was charging for fantasy games, you got to

(05:24):
track your league for the year not not bad, right,
or you can buy it as a league, uh and
get your discount. You know, the group right as it were.
But it's the that idea of getting more and more
eyeballs and getting away from direct TV. Now their stock
is trading. I want to say like fifty eight, fifty nine,
uh today off a fifty two week high of ninety three.

(05:47):
Now that doesn't say a ton because the market as
a whole is depressed. So we'll see what happens when
an actual announcement is made. But you're You're looking at
the ever expanding opportunities here, you know, to to see
how you can carve this up. What other programming can
you include to entice people their local teams, local feeds,

(06:08):
local commenters, all all of those things that make it
that much more attractive beyond whatever the host of TV shows,
movies and original programming that you have to offer. Jason
Smith Mike harmon Fox Sports Radio. We're talking about the
NFL deal going to streaming, so Sunday tickets gonna be

(06:28):
heading there very soon. Roger Goodells's announced that could come
as early as this fall. Now, the other part of
this is that streaming overall has just run rampant the
last few years, and there's been a lot of success,
especially during the pandemic, when what do we all do?
We all stayed inside and watch TV, right, and that
became a new way of life for us as a
We're watching TV more than ever because the content that

(06:51):
was on is really really good. TV has never been better.
But there's a reason why this is such a big
deal and and and the NFL going to streaming, and
the fight this is going to be to get Sunday
ticket is because the next couple of years. I think
you're gonna see kind of a settling of the streaming
landscape because there's so many streaming services now, and how

(07:14):
many can you really have? Are you really going to
have all of them? You know, you're you're paying more
than you did for your cable right exactly because because
if you want all these great shows, and there's great
shows on every streaming package that's out there, I'm telling
you there are. But how many are you gonna pay for?
Are you? Are you gonna pay for Netflix and you're
gonna pay for Apple, and you're gonna pay for HBO Max,
You're gonna pay for Paramount, You're gonna pay for Amazon,

(07:36):
You're gonna pay for Disney. I mean that's a lot.
That sounds about right, And so I mean it's a lot.
I mean, you're talking about your cable bill now being
you know, or just your streaming bill being like a
hundred dollars a month. Well, and if you're like us,
where you still need to be able to, you know,
watch sports beyond those packages, you still have to have
some level of cable, whether it's you TV or Direct

(07:59):
TV or UH Spectrum or whatever your cable is locally
now you're adding that on top of whatever the streaming
stuff you have for each member of the family and
for other interests that you have. Yeah, people are gonna
have to make choices because they're gonna say, Okay, what
do I I don't want all of this, and I'll
I'll give up a couple of shows and all right,
I really like you know, Amazon, but you know The

(08:21):
Boys is not going to be back for another year,
And do I really need Amazon? No? I don't need
Amazon anymore. HBO rule right, Hey, Sopranos is gonna be
gone for eight months? Right? Do I need that? Right?
I love HBO Max, but Hacks isn't coming back for
a while, and Mayor of East time. So people are
going to be making tough decisions. And it's tough to say,

(08:41):
I want to cut Apple Plus if they have the NFL.
So this is why this is such a big deal,
because there's gonna be a fight to stay alive for
streaming services the next couple of years because some of
them aren't gonna make it right. Like I said, You're
gonna have to make that. There's just too many and
too much out there, and we have this and that
you know what it's just too many, and we're not
gonna get any more regulation of it because you could

(09:01):
see more streaming services coming out as we go. But
the next couple of years, I think you're gonna see
it and we're gonna get down to I I would say,
in the next two years, you're gonna see a couple
go away because they don't make the money, they don't
get the subscribers they did, and they're not going to
have growth. And if you don't have growth, you're not
going to be around. And so I would say by

(09:22):
five will be down to like a big four. They're
probably like four streaming services, and that's gonna be it
and everything else people aren't gonna watch it, and it
may be what we see. It could be Netflix and
Apple and Amazon and Disney, right, it could be those now.
And there's some thought that Netflix is right for an acquisition,
right because the cost of original programming. And this really
gets deep inside baseball and me spending way too much

(09:43):
time on business sites going through this stuff. But you
already have several of the competitors that you've mentioned that
are already also rans and like clearly not one of those,
but from a a stagnation, UH part, that's where they
fall in. But you may have a bit of consolidation
and best of brand that already uh starts to develop

(10:06):
here and might be happening behind the scenes, much like
the U s c U C l A say, and
undercover of Jight, we packed our trucks and we we
left for Baltimore. So yeah, it's gonna be It's gonna
be a really interesting next two years where some streaming
services you have that you love aren't gonna be around.
And that's it's a big because if you get the

(10:27):
NFL for the next five or six year, you're not
going anywhere. You're not going anywhere, and you're gonna be
You're gonna be up at the top. You're gonna be
up at the top of Netflix and and everybody else
is gonna be fighting for relevancy. That that's where the
next couple of years is going to go streaming wise, well,
because the other part of that, Jason, whoever wins that
feeds the rest of the beast, right, So you gotta
be the long play, figure out what the upfront is,

(10:48):
right and and the check that needs to be cut
if one needs to be done right away, that allows
you to then start funding all that other programming, and
then that machine starts to get momentum like Dante Colepepper
and Randy aust did all those years ago. Twitter at
how about a Fresca? Mike gets Swollen done the Jason
Spitzer with Mike Carmen. We're full of what the next
few years in sports is gonna bring us, aren't We?

(11:09):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
Radio app Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with
My bas friend Mike Harmon. So would Aaron Rodgers really
be the guy that would do the NFL's version of
the Decision? I guarantee our next guest is gonna say yes, yes,

(11:32):
a thousand times yes. He is a long time NFL insider.
He is a Pro Football Hall of Fame voter. At
least right now. He is on Twitter at Jason Cole
sixty two. That is, at Jason Cole sixty two. You
can find him tweeting his favorite music lyrics throughout most
of the day, in addition to his red hot football takes.

(11:53):
It is the aforementioned Jason Cole. What's happening man? Well,
the Red Hot it's um, I'm going to be going
to the Red Hot Chili Peppers for my birthday. Wow. Nice,
that's nice. You know Flee is a big fan of
the show. J Yeah, we had Flea on the show
a couple of times. On the show. Yeah, big Lakers fans.
So he would call in when he was sitting in

(12:14):
his car mad about something. Did he did he talk
about did he describe his version of the national anthem
on on bas or? Yeah? We did that. Yeah, we
talked about that. And did you pretation what he thought?
It was Hendrick's ask or something like that? Did he
He was really proud of himself. Yes, Ted Hendrix esk

(12:37):
mad Stork kept gelling Stork a not Storch. Give it
up the Larry Storch. That's a good run. That's a
hell of a run. Yeah, Corporal, very good connections. I
like the I like the whole. Yeah, yeah, I like
the whole Ted Hendricks, the Mad Stork thing. Yeah, it's

(12:58):
very good. I was it a bit with Hendrick at
the super Bowl once. It was he was a fun dude.
I mean, I was much stared Hendricks one time or
several times um at the NFL Scovin combine over the years.
And I won't say that he was allegedly drunk, but
allegedly allegedly I know, I said, I will not say

(13:21):
that he was allegedly drunk. All right, So hey, so
we were having some fun a few minutes ago. Today's
the twelfth anniversary of the decision by Lebron James saying,
you know, I'm taking my talent to South Beach. If
any other athlete in the in sports would actually do
that again, now, I gotta think it's Aaron Rodgers at
the top of that list. Aaron Rodgers would be there. Um,

(13:45):
come on, Kyrie Irving, you don't think he would try
and do that. Well, he'd actually have to be a
free agent first. No, no, no, no, no, no no.
He had the opportunity a few years ago on the
court and he said, hey, I want to stay here
as long as you'll have me, and then he left.
M Um. Yeah, there there's a fair number of basketball
players who would still do that, who are pedantic enough

(14:09):
to do that. Um, And I would say that at
one time, Trevor Bauer probably would have done that. Now
he'll never do that again because he's not taking his
talents anywhere. Um. But yeah, if you were talking about football,
Aaron Rodgers have been up there. You know. T O
in his uh, in his prime would have done that. Um,

(14:32):
Randy Moss maybe, um oh here's a good one. Arian
Foster would have done that. Oh you think that's that's
an area Bell would have probably done that. Well, you
just get a box now, and let's just say this.

(14:53):
Antonio Brown basically did do that. I told you. I
told you Smith, you got the whole thing. Mean, look
at me, but the whole thing. I mean, he took
off his jersey and said he was going somewhere. It's
Antonio Brown. He he well, I hear all. I did that.
But he also did that. You know that Matt dance
when he got out of the Raiders deal right into

(15:15):
the backyard. You remember that one. I mean he set
cryogenetic therapy back years though. Yes, everybody, he almost did
to that what the last election did to electronic voting. Right,
So I'm with you on t O. I'm with you
on t I think he definitely would do it. I

(15:37):
think absolutely. And let's just say this. If Jerry Rice
had ever had a chance to do that, like if
the meat of his career had been during free agency,
he probably would have done it too. That's pretty good.
I like that. Yeah, Jerry had Jerry had that, Jerry

(15:57):
had that sense of self to do I mean, and
let's just see up until up until, you know, probably
a year ago, Baker Mayfield, he would have done it.
That's a that's a professional segue right there. Hey, what
one time, when we get off the air, I'll tell

(16:17):
you a Jerry Rice story you that that will fit
right into what you just said. We get off the eye,
will tell you a great Jerry. There's a bunch of them.
So I can't wait for this. I don't know. He's
he's always been very kind to me. I love you, Jerry.
Uh So, it's all right, listen, are you on board?
And now? Hey, Baker Mayfield makes the Panthers a super
Bowl threat? Because that's what I'm getting the last couple

(16:38):
of days. Have you seen have you seen that? If
you've seen on on ESPN and Fox, everybody, Hey, you
this is an unbelievable I'm like, oh my god. If
he was good, he would have been traded by now.
But it's like, it's like Tom Brady got traded. Hey,
look at this, Hey, the Browns traded Tom Brady because

(17:02):
it's the NFL and we are so desperate for anything,
We're going to make something out of this Baker Mayfield trade.
I mean the Browns had to swallow ten million dollars
and get a conditional fifth round traffic for him. Like,
I mean, it's just it's absurdly. My question is at

(17:24):
the end of this year, well, the Panthers have sufficiently
destroyed both Sam Donald and Baker Mayfield. Because if you
want to go to a place to basically rekindle somebody's career,
you should go to a place where the owner is
not trustworthy. The head coach, his head is on a platter,

(17:48):
and the offensive coordinator is Ben McAfee. Ben McAdoo, he
had him ranked six in two amongst the quarterbacks. God,
it's like this is the Panthers are the stench of instability.

(18:09):
They truly are. Yeah, And so this is a team
like this is the last place that you take and
you put a quarterback who is trying to you know,
is is trying to right the ship. I mean, this
is Baker Mayfield should have been begging to say, I
will do anything in the world. I will take a
huge pay cut to pay play for Andy Reid, I

(18:31):
will be a backup there. Or I will go for
any price and I will go work for Mike Shanahan.
Or I will do anything I can to get to um,
you know, be a backup in the Los Angeles for
Sean might say. Or by the way, I'll quit for
a year and I will spend the entire off season
with alternating between spending time with Sean Payton or Mike Shanahan, right,

(18:55):
just to learn how to play quarterback, because after the
experience he's been through, that would have been what it is. Instead,
he gets Matt Rule and Ben McAdoo. Don't you have
to complete this by going to get Josh Rosen somehow?
So you have three top ten quarterbacks from on your
roster and Rosen wins the job out of training camp. Hey,

(19:21):
I got a feeling about him. He's a go get
go get the mad tennis player, Josh Rosen. Okay at
his next level. Stuff though, the way this has been
conflated and and tossed up and down, and look, I
get it, you're trying to wish, want and hope and say, hey,

(19:42):
Baker could have a huge chip on his shoulder. The
offense still stinks. The offensive linement that they drafted is
not multiplying. Christian McCaffrey is healthy, and we go, okay,
we can hand it to him four times exactly from

(20:03):
Christian mcca basically just throwing passes. But he's getting the
ball four hundred times and I'm not. And when I
say that, I really I don't mean in a game.
But if they had a chance to do that four
hundred times in a game, they might want to do
it because it's the only way these guys are going
to revive their career. It's like Christian, help me, please

(20:26):
help me look decent, and that that's the only hope
that these guys have. I mean, it's just they got nobody.
I mean, yeah, they got nothing. DJ more like, oh man,
that lights that lights it on. He's on my Fantasy
Dynasty roster. I want to talk him up if I
want to trade him. Okay, yeah, he could be the

(20:48):
next Rob More. Speaking of former Jets wide receiver Robbie
Anderson said that Sam Donald was given a bad run
with the you know, echoing what we that's this guy
that's deeper. That's deep analysis, Robbie, that's really Yeah, you're

(21:09):
you're going out of limb to say a quarterback was
given a bad run by the New York Did you
think he would stand up for his guy? He's like that.
It's the same guy throwing to me, whether it's Sam
or Baked Baker. Anyway. No, he loves saying. He loves saying.
He had a great year with Sam and he parlayed
that into a big But now he got with the Panthers. Yeah,

(21:31):
but you think he got paid. He could be at
least honest about it. I mean, look, look, hey, listen,
I'm not saying that the Jets didn't didn't have a
role in ruining many players careers over the past, you know,
thirty or forty years. But Sam Donald stay, yeah, I'm
going but hey, we were good in the early you're
off by like you it's over fifty. Well, no, we

(21:54):
get we get some you get over they have run.
You get to have ruined everybody when you win a
Super Bowl. When you win a Super Bowl, you get
some grace time. So I give the Jets the early
seventies as grace times. Then it picks up. We were
good in the favorite My favorite part about the Jets
is that when he had the favorite part the Jets,

(22:16):
they had this is like, this is one of my favorite.
They had a contract with Shay in which if the
Mets were still playing, they had to play all their
games on the road. Right, if they had to read
their schedule. There was one season where they had their
first seven games in the season. We're all on the road, right, Like,

(22:38):
that's the way to mangle your players, Like, let's just
spend half of a year on the road, plan plan Okay,
this is the nine seventies, alright, like you this seventies. No, no,
stop stop. You cannot defend the Jets in any way,
shape or form. You don't get a grace period. Have

(23:02):
idiots for no. I want you to be more recent
than telling you about the Jets and how awful they are.
I know this stuff. You don't. You weren't alive for
the Super Bowl. I was. I know it. Okay, you
just think that you know it. I'm telling you that
your team is horrendous and they have ruined everybody for

(23:26):
over fifty years. It is definitive. That is case closed.
They didn't ruin Curtis Martin, they didn't ruin Darrell Revus.
Everybody else they ruined and Mark Sanchez led him to
to uh A title. Drell revis one is super Bowl
with the Patriots. But let the Jets did one of

(23:49):
our greatest players has a super Bowl ring would one
of the greatest rival proving they didn't ruin him because
he went from the Jets of the Pages and won
the Super Bowl from New York. He's escaped Rivas Island.
He didn't embrace it. Yeah, let's let's go to something important.
How do we get Amy Trask got that twenty five

(24:09):
and into the Hall of Fame. How do we got Amy?
You know, Amy's got interesting candidacy. I'll tell you that
I would. I would. I would like to talk up
Amy Trask. I will say this, I like Mike Shanahan
in this group, you know, especially if you're gonna put
Bill Cower in the Hall of Fame. Um, then yeah,
Mike Shanahan's got to pretty much go in. But yeah,

(24:32):
got a good case you can if you could get
Roger stall back out of the Hall of Fame and
get Amy Trask, and you can do that. Oh, absolutely
I'm on that. I'm on that already. I sent messages
to everybody. Yeah, that's why the hell of a group
test text? I'm sure did you get this text from
Jason colebra out? That's all I said. That's what I

(24:53):
said in it, star back out, trask in. That's it.
I like that idea is not thing more to be
said because I'm kind of piggybacking off of that, because
I keep telling Harmon with USC going to the big tent,
they're just gonna boot Northwestern out. He's got no helpe anymore.
I will you know, I feel, don't do it. Your

(25:14):
team's your team's going independent, or you're with the also ransom.
Let me finish this point, okay, because do you know
where I'm about to go. Northwestern in a lot of trouble,
Dandy in the SEC A lot of trouble. Stanford thinking

(25:34):
it might go to the Big ten. Not such a
good thing, Not really such a good thing, unless unless
we decide to start spending some of that Silicon Valley
money on players. Um we got no shot and yeah,
sorry Harmon, but um yeah, when they're loading up like this,
any school with that takes kids with above three point,

(25:58):
they were great averages. We've got problems. So it's Stanford,
Vandy and Northwestern starting their own will come to the
division Duke. Um, what other schools? Rice, You can throw
them in there too, He said, have college ball? You

(26:20):
only gonna have games. We college ball. We're gonna answer
questions and that's all how smart we are. Well, here's
here's the worst part. Hey, you might end up in
there too. So secure. Yeah, yeah, you're you're you're the
chopping Now listen, listen, We're gonna be playing Oregon State
for the Division six national championship. That's what we're gonna
Division six. That's how this is gonna go. Why do

(26:42):
you have the like here we have a paid division
and then there's everybody else. Um, the this is the
this is where I fear Stanford is in the biggest trouble.
Our president. Um who was the guy who who signed
off on trying to cut like a team sports and
then found out, oh, that's a bad idea. He came

(27:05):
from a university. I didn't realize this until I looked
it up. He was the president of a university that
didn't have a single sports team. That's good. Yeah, this
speaks well of us going into prepared for this. We
are we have we have no clue what it's like

(27:27):
to go and play in the Big Ten and to
play with real teams on our real basis. Like you know,
we got Oregon State, you know, like that's that helps, right,
that helps a lot, and some tea you know, teams
that you know West Coast Football. It's like, okay, this
is a really cool thing that we do, that we
play football. Isn't really really nice? And then we can
go up against Ohio State. Yeah, like this think this.

she would get it as a joke and she would

do the diplomatic thing as Amy does. Hey, Hey, Jacole,

(28:36):
can I can I because I talked to Amy Trask
a lot on social media? Can I say, hey, Jason
Cole is starting a a push for you to the
Hall of Fame and taking Roger stall Back out? Can
I do that? No? No, that's the only that's that's

what's it look like in the NBA now with players
staying signing big deals free agency? Wise? Think a new

(30:28):
favorites to win the title? What about in the NFL
after the Baker Mayfield trade? Are the Panther's a new
favorites for the Super Bowl? Well? Joining us now the
hot lot our insider in Vegas. You can follow on
Twitter at Todd Ferman, That is at Todd Furman. Check
out his bet the Board podcast, analyst for CBS Sports

(30:51):
HQ and after the Knicks win over the Warriors, tonight
in Vegas Summer League. He has just made the Knicks
even money to win the championship this year in the NBA. Todd,
what's happening? The Knicks aren't even even money to win
the championship in the summer League. And get those fancy
new rings that were on full display over social media
in the last twenty four hours. But more importantly, Smith,

(31:12):
yet another former Jets quarterback, appears to be relegated to
backup duty in the National Football League. Now there's a
reason why they're ex Jets. They're no longer any good. Yes,
that's exactly the reason why they're ex Jets. But to
be a Jet in the first place, especially when you
the top ten pick on one of those players, it
speaks to the longstanding futility of that proud Mickey Mouse franchise.

(31:33):
Hailing from Gotham City, I will say this, back when
I worked at ESPN as a production assistant UH in
the early to mid nineties, UH there was a big
saying and Chris Berman would say this all the time,
and it was the saying that we would have around.
He would sometimes say it on the air, but mainly
we set it off. The air was if someone that
used to be on the Jets was on a new
team made a play, the phrase would be ex Jet

(31:55):
now good. That sounds about right. So pro means we
can't even hold our heat to that. You look at
Robbie Anderson, you look at Sam Donald, and those are
the two that come to mind, obviously wearing Carolina Panthers
teal and black. But I'm sure there's a laundry list
of former Jets that are struggling to find their footing
in the NFL and other locations at this point. Well,
Robby Anderson doing a good job of trying to sell

(32:17):
Sam Donald saying, look, it was that team. He was
in a bad culture, he was in the upside down.
I mean, you can do everything you can. Eventually you
are who we thought you were. And that has definitely
resonated around the league over the last handful of years.
So what does this thing mean in the Grand Scott?
What was it worth? A half? A half? A win
on wishing and hoping for Baker Mayfield? Uh? No, it

(32:41):
had absolutely no bearing on the Carolina Panthers overall season. Outlook,
I tried to give it a half that no movement
in their win total. No real change in divisional odds.
The place that it did have an impact though, was
the week one opening number against the Cleveland Browns. We
know there's all sorts of storyline and swirling about who
would be the starting quarterback for both these teams. Have

(33:02):
you seen this number that originally opened to Cleveland and
four and a half point favorite when oddsmakers were led
to believe it was gonna be Deshaun Watson's debut against
Sam Donald. That number is now down to Cleveland minus
one as we work under the guise of Jacoby Brissette
matching up with Baker Mayfield and Must See TV at
one o'clock Eastern on Sunday, September eleven. Alright, so moving

(33:24):
over to the NBA, we've seen the first wave of
free agency. Damian Lillard comes back to the Blazers. Uh,
any real movement anything you've seen the last few days, going, hey,
this had the biggest ripple, this draft pick, whatever it was.
The Only thing that's really changed is books trying to
protect a lot of their assets. So when you look
from top to bottom, the Celtics right now are slight

(33:44):
favorites over the Milwaukee Bucks, the Phoenix Suns, has seen
their odds short in to touch the Clippers and Warriors
hanging out there right around seven, seven and a half
to one. But you've seen the Lakers come from twenty
to one down at ten to one. At some books,
we'll call twelve to one the consensus. I'm not sure
Kyrie Irving suddenly catapults into that upper echelon of Western
Conference powers that they should have a shorter number than

(34:04):
a team like the seventies sixers or even the Denver Nuggets,
who get healthier this year, most likely with the return
of Jamal Murray. So it's all books trying to protect
their assets. They know these teams that are going to
be bet more frequently than others, and to be quite honest,
there's no real reason for them to off offer fair
market value when they're working with the same information at
their disposal as betters are, which is a rarity in

(34:24):
this day and age. How do we get perfect information
on Kevin Durant since he's gone quote dark, Yeah, you
have to start calling around and figure out what kind
of packages are out there for Kevin Durant. But if
the nets want something equivalent to what they floated out
there for the Minnesota Timberwolves. There's no chance Kevin Durant
may be playing anywhere else, uh in the n b A.
And I think you're gonna see Brooklyn's needs are wants

(34:47):
for Durant continue to come down a little bit. But
I have to imagine they move Kyrie first, figure out
what they get in that deal, and then begin to
go about constructing their roster accordingly. And who knows, maybe
they can flip the script, ringing another veteran alongside, having
Durant get him to change his tune, and suddenly we're
talking about k D trying to go out there and
realize some potential in Brooklyn that clearly this deal never

(35:08):
materialized from over the last couple of seasons. Who is
your favorite to wind where Kevin Durant winds up when
it's all sudden up. I mean, when I look at it,
I mean, as far as teams that can put together
a package, I would take a flyer on the Raptors.
I know we're not going for far down the odds
board by any stretch of the imagination, but I mean,
this is a team that's landed a superstar that none
of us thought was possible. In Kawhi Leonard and they

(35:28):
obviously reaped the benefits of that. Uh. You know, I'm
not sure if Toronto is willing to part with Scottie Barnes,
but if you can get Brooklyn to lower it's asked,
you know, maybe that makes some sense. You try and
bring a championship in the next one or two years,
assuming that you're going to get Kevin Durant. The problem
for KD is that he's in the tail end of
his career. So of that four year deal, maybe you
get two good years out of him, but I'm not

(35:50):
sure you can rely on him being the championship winning
piece that you're going to at the tail end of
these particular contracts. If I were safe for Laker fans
wanting to lay odds on the fact that Lebron James
and Anthony Davis will play, I don't know, fifty and
a half games as the over and under together this
year in the regular season. What kind of odds did

(36:12):
I get on that? Oh? I mean, I'd have to
offer you anywhere from twelve to one to fifteen to
one for you to go over that number. I don't
think there's any chance at that tannem will be out
on the court for more than half of the games together,
whether we're talking about injury to both of them, injury
to one of them, or load management. I mean, this
is a Lakers team who I think has to have
their eyes if they have expectations of getting to the playoffs,

(36:33):
keeping those guys healthy and just punching their ticket into
that postseason. It's not about winning games. It's not about
securing a high seat or anything else along those lines. Todd,
what as we look at the Warriors going forward right now,
suddenly they're not the favorite in some sports books? Is
this just, Hey, the Warriors is losing Gary Payton Jr.

(36:55):
That big a deal, and Gary Payton the second that
big a deal. Why have we people come off the
Warriors now? Well, I think when you're looking at what
the teams around them have done. The Clippers obviously, when
you get a healthy Paul George and Kawhi Leonard back
in the mix. I'm not big on John Wall and
what he had to them, but that's why their odds
are very similar to Golden State. We've seen these teams
that get some of their superstars that have a long

(37:15):
time away, that come back healthier and play with a
little bit of a chip on their shoulder. Golden State,
Let's see if they go to battle with the current
roster they have or if they're willing to look to
make a deal. But I think Boston going out there
and picking up, you know, a couple of pieces that
add a little bit of versatility when you talk about
getting a shooter from the perimeter and you get a
guard in Malcolm Broadning that can facilitate the offense, something

(37:36):
that they desperately lacked in the NBA Finals against Golden State.
You can understand why the Celtics are slightly shorter odds
to win the NBA Championship. But so much is going
to change between now and when the season starts in
you know, late October, early November. That these are odds
that I think if you're looking to try and bet
a favorite, it's a little bit of a fool's air
and to tie up your money for that long Alright.

(37:57):
Todd Todd Fourbanard guest here Foxmore Training of the Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmen. You could find Todd on
Twitter at Todd Fermant at bet the Board pod where
you find him for all your uh investing needs, and
clearly the NFL and n C Double A are coming
back soon enough, so get the subscriptions flowing. You've got

(38:18):
also the work they're doing on the NASCAR circuit, uh
for you as well. But Todd, let me take it
to tennis for a moment if I can just be
because I think it's fun. How much did uh would
a prophet be with a Nadal withdrawing? Yeah, I mean
Robert was attracting a little bit of attention as far
as futures were concerned, seven and a half eight to one,

(38:39):
as he looked to continue to chase after you know,
the calendar year Grand Slam. I don't think anybody wanted
to see this unfortunate situation onfold. You could see he
was in clear discomfort against Taylor Fritz and at one
point in the match you could have had Rafa, who advanced,
you know, through his quarterfinal at a price right around
three to one. He guts that out and obviously just
couldn't get through it against Nick Arios. You saw money

(39:01):
coming on curios for the semifinal. It opened right around
minus a dollar thirty. That number drifted out to minus
a dollar seventy and of course Rafa withdraws, and now
you're looking at Joker an overwhelming favorite, giving his experience
in pedigree against Curios. But I will say, since this
number was posted, you've seen this price tag ticked down
a little bit. Joker open right around four dollars in

(39:22):
that price now in that three sixty range. Curios has
kind of had his number in previous meetings, but obviously
the stage significantly different. We're talking about center court of Limbledon, alright, Todd. Lastly, uh,
the odds of Charles Barkley finishing in the top seventy
at the American Century Championship Celebrity Golf Tournament this week
has been a big rage. Steph Curry says, no way,

(39:42):
no way, no way, not happening. After day one he's
t seventy one. So if if I'm laying about this weekend,
am I betting on Barklay betting against Barkley? No, you're
betting against Charles, and you're doing it with a high
level of confidence because with each passing twenty four hours
that Charles finds himself in Tahoe, it's fewer and fewer
hours to fleet, more and more hours spent at the

(40:03):
blackjack cable, and I respect his hustle as much as
anybody else out there, trying to take advantage of some
of the amenities he'll have at his disposal. So T
seventy one early on, I don't think we'll lead him
finishing inside the top seventy and it wouldn't shock me
if he's finishing in the bottom five of the field
and Tahoe this weekend. He's on Twitter at Todd Ferman.
That is at Todd Ferman. Check am out at the

(40:24):
Board podcast CBS Sports as well. Todd, thanks a bunch
