Speaker 2 (00:21):
This is the best of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
And this is a perfect spot for us to give
you our AFC and NFC Championship game picks. Love doing
this every year, little different than the Super Bowl. Four
teams in right kind of fun. Since we're seeing an
NFC game tonight, we'll start with the NFC. Okay, it
is a super Bowl or bust year for this team
because their quarterback has to get paid, their star wide

(00:51):
receiver has to get paid. They understand the sense of urgency.
I don't care that they lost their coordinators. This is
a team that knows what they have this season to accomplish.
And I love the fact that Jamison Williams he's gonna
take a big leap because he wants to get paid
after this year too. He's gonna break out. The Lions
will be unstoppable. It is their last chance before this

(01:15):
current era is over. They are way too talented to
not be there. They get there this year. Jamier Gibbs
and right now, I'll tell you right he'll be the
best running back in the NFL this year with way
less carries than Saquon Barkley is. Their offense is so
much better than anything anybody else has. You'll get Aiden
Hutchinson back. I'd be stunned if the Lions aren't in

(01:37):
the Super Bowl, but I'll put them in the NFC
Championship game right now. I've been on them for three years.
I'll stick them all the way to the end of
this era. Lions in the NFC title game.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
You don't like me on the AFC side with Come on, man,
get over the hub. You know this is a team
I really want to to pick, but all and I
had it written down, and then all of a sudden
we get the injury report of hey, there's a cab
injury for a certain run up in the bear. Oh
a calf injury. You saying that's fine. Why why did
they trade for that other guy from washingtonf injuries are up. Yeah,

(02:09):
it's easy. No, that's fine. So based on schedule and
everything else, you get a little bit excitable, but it's
all contingent on old number twenty two getting out there.
You look at the forty nine ers who are nineteen
to one for Super Bowl odds, party got paid, You
look at depth balance, all of those things, A favorable schedule,

(02:31):
so the road is open. But I look at Christian McCaffrey,
I go, how do I trust you? You're already breaking
my heart on a Thursday before the season even starts,
leaving me all nervous. They will be.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Playing the Los Angeles Rams, WHOA in the Stafford Bowl,
which will make everything come full circle from the trade
that really jumpstarted both of these teams runs to where
they are right now.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Now.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
I asked the obvious question, will Matthew Stafford and his
back be available to play in said games?

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Well, I'm glad you said that because honestly, I don't
think it matters.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Wow, okay, all right, now we're talking Cay. You know
what that means. Matthew Stafford.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
If he's gets dinged up, if he's hurt, this offense
is made to work with. Basically anyone you've seen anyone
they have run the football, come in and run the
football well right, whether it was Acres or Kyron Williams,
doesn't matter catching the football, whether it's Cooper Cup or
Pooka Nakua. And now you have DeVante Adams added. The
Rams have done such a great job of adding talent,

(03:33):
adding mercurial talent, drafting well. But this is a system
where yes, Matthew Stafford one of the biggest clutch quarterbacks
in the game, your favorite quarterbacks, favorite quarterback, but if
Jimmy Garoppolo plays, the offense.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Will be just fine.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
And this is a RAMS team is gonna win a
division that's not gonna be as great as people think.
It's gonna be Rams and the Lions the Stafford Bowl
to go to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Take that.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
You know.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
I love me some Jimmy g So I'm all over there. Look,
I've got this Eagles squad. It's very tough to knock
them off because we look at the division. I don't
think that Jalen Carter will be a dope again after this.
We'll see if he gets any kind of suspension after
the spitting incident that started off our twenty twenty five campaign.

(04:16):
But you've got a team with great depth on both
side defensive tackle maybe a little bit. And it's funny
because you saw how easily Dallas goes down the field.
It's like, well, you know you always script these, but no, no,
this was the Quentin Tarantino rewrite because you had a
guy getting thrown out for spitting and now all of
a sudden, that whole offensive set is something different and

(04:37):
it takes a couple of possessions to get right. We'll
see if that how it holds up here once we
resume play here in week one. But I like the
Eagles too much and the depth and what Jalen hurts
and that offensive structure gives.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
So there's our NFC Championship game picks. What about the AFC. Okay,
here's where I'm getting a little loose. Oh look at
a little it's temporaneous here, right. It's easy to pick
the Bills, but I'll tell you the Bills maybe in
for a little bit of a regression, maybe a little
bit easy to pick the Ravens. However, I've seen the Ravens.

(05:12):
I've seen that movie many times and it ends the
same way, I have yes with Lamar Jackson turning the
football over in the playoffs and they lose. Okay, the
Bengals are a very trendy pick. Health is always a
big thing with the Bengals.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
That lack of defense might coming back to get you
in some boy.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
I am gonna go with something that we haven't seen
in the NFL since twenty twenty two. Two teams from
the same division, Wow in the AFC Championship Game. Neither
of these teams are the Chiefs. Give me the Broncos
and the Chargers. WOWFC Championship Game. Wonder what kind of

(05:47):
odds you get on that part. It's hard to not
love Denver. Their roster is phenomenal. What watching their second
and third stringers dominate in the preseason is something. They
are always well prepared. They have no weaknesses sewn. Hayton
is able to now this is his third year. He's
got the team he wants, He's got the players he wants.
He's excited about fourth round picks, and he says, oh,

(06:07):
Pat Bryant's the next Michael Thomas. But bo Nix is terrific.
He was right when he said he's the guy I
wanted their defense is good. They have playmakers all over
the field. Do not sleep on the Broncos. I get
that they're starting to get a little trendy, but they
are a terrific team and I see nothing but great
things for the Broncos. The Chargers man look out for

(06:28):
Jim Harboy year two again, year two. Now he's got
the talent he wants in the place he wants. He's
got a sledgehammer running game. He trusts Justin Herbert more
than he did probably at this point last year. Lad
McConkey is fantastic. Quenton Johnston had a big leap from
last year to this year. Right, you brought Keenan Allen back,
You'll be able to throw the football when you have to.
Justin Herbert will show just how willmind everybody just how

(06:50):
good he is. And that defense. People forget. It's one
of the top five defenses in the NFL, So give me.
I know it's tough to see two out out of
the same division, but we saw it a couple of
years ago Broncos Chargers AFC Championship game.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
I just did an odds estimate based on well the
Action Network website. The bet that he proposes for the
AFC Title Game, seven and eighty three to one. People, Oh,
I love it. I love it. Twenty seven to one
both teams to win the Super Bowl. So I mean
that's for one of the you know, that team to

(07:25):
finish the job. But I mean that's kind of insane.
But we look at the AFC. I've got the Chiefs, right,
you had your opportunity to get him, like the chalk
to a degree, the fourth favorite to win the Super Bowl.
But you're looking at a squad that comes back where
she Rice misses his time due to suspense. You've got
depth at wide receiver. Patrick Mahomes doesn't need to put

(07:48):
up pinball numbers, although I think he will at points.
Travis Kelcey had ninety seven yard receptions last year. Everybody
hated him. Yeah, like I know, he had a bad
Super Bowl. Plenty of plenty of plays. We're just like,
that's not there. Well, he wasn't on tour with Taylor
Swift this time around, hanging around Europe drinking beer and
they got some calories off for dancing. But otherwise it

(08:09):
was the struggle bus as we look at that. But
so I got the Chiefs on one side of it.
When we look at the other you mentioned, you know,
Buffalo and Baltimore. It's hard to go away from those two.
I love the Denver pick. That is highly gutsy, no
question about it. H cycle it all down. I'm a

(08:33):
glutton for punishment. McDermott and the Bills because of the
easy walk through the division. Yeah yeah, it still should
be right, so it should still be an easy path,
But then it becomes they all right, how do you
get over that?

Speaker 1 (08:45):
That's the thing for me with the Bills is like
I think during the regular season, because the division is
not great, they've been able to mask some of their difficulties. Look,
their defensive backfield is not terrible again, and it's not
like they got so good in the off season. It's
just everybody else in the division is really starting over.
So once you'll they'll get there.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
I'm not. But once you get to the playoff, okay,
which is why I can pick them to get to
this game, sure not to get past it. So the
dragon waits for them and vanquishes them again. So there
it is. There are are official AFC and NFC Championship
Game picks.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Hello, Welcome in side our three, The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
This time it counts.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
For over forty years, tire Rack's been helping customers find
the right tires for how, what and where they drive.
Shipped fast and free, backed by free Road, has a
protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tirerac
dot Com is the way tire buying should be. You know,
we just saw an ad for the official shaver of
the NFL. Now, if you got a jet shaver, and yeah,

(10:28):
how many times you think you'd cut your head?

Speaker 4 (10:31):
Uh? Jet?

Speaker 3 (10:32):
Oh? Five times every time? So every time, like h
it would would we be the razor's fault or would
it just be your akst? How would you see that logo?

Speaker 1 (10:41):
I would cut my head carrying the American flag out
to the middle of the field. That's what happened. I
cut my head there take the over. One thing I
can't do. I can't stop being American.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Damn right. I tried to send that to you yesterday
to taunt you, but I had my iHeart Broadways random
commercial on about goal commercial, So the TV's playing, but
I've got my phone.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
There's one thing we can't stop doing. We can't stop
being American independently.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
There buy a ram truck. Be American independently. Eleanor my
older daughter actually brought that up to me today. It's like,
who's that guy that yells all the time? I hear
you're watching TV down here as you're you know, making
dinner or whatever. It's like, what the hell it? Guy
keeps coming up Like I don't know. They keep cycling
the same three.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
We just can't stop being American, but I feel like
I want to run out and be a great American.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Today. It's a great day for America.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Uh so again right now, four minutes to go in
the fourth quarter, Eagles have the football. They lead the
Cowboys twenty four to twenty and yes, spitgate, second spinner
Roger McDowell. All of it is going to be the
big front line story tonight. Jalen Carter, one of the
best defensive tackles in the NFL, gets kicked out of

(11:59):
the game before or the first nap because he is
caught spitting at Dak Prescott. Subsequent replays shown during the
weather delay that we have had. Right now, people are
hearing this for the first time, going, what the hell
did I missed it? During the long weather delay, NBC
got an angle that showed Dak Prescott spitting at Jalen
Carter first, and now that's going to be part of
what we see. And look, the Dak Prescott did not

(12:21):
get caught in this. It was Jayalen Carter who clearly
spits at Dak Prescott's chest and winds up getting thrown
out of the game. We just saw the image from
the Dallas Cowboy or of Dak Prescott doing it a
few moments ago. And now the big debate online is, oh,
did Dak spit down? Like I don't, I don't know
what to tell you if you think where he spit,
I mean the whole thing. And we'll get to the

(12:43):
Micah Parsons angle on this is that Michael parsondn't spend anybody.
Just something else different is that we don't know that
the context of this game Boy and Boy Cowboy sure
could have used him tonight, couldn't theyre?

Speaker 3 (12:55):
Uh? I mean they've they've run a couple of quarterback blitches.
You know, if any of them could actually, you know,
tackle Jalen Hurts instead of watching him just sidestep them,
it'd be a much different story. Uh.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Dak Prescott leans forward, raises his head, spits at Jalen
Carter and then engages and jaws with him, smiles like
this is all part of one thing. That this was
not a case of Dak backed up spit on the
ground and then Jalen Carter walked up to him. Dak
clearly is the agitator and the instigator on this. Now
the big I can't believe people's oh, Dak spit on
the ground, like you can't tell.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Bottom line is Dak spit? But that can't tell right
where the spit is. But certainly he initiates.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
If because of this, if you kick Jalen Carter out
for the game spit for spat.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
Yeah, but I do like that phrase, and if sure,
we should print it immediately not playing week two, right,
it's only fair. But here's the thing, at least with Dak,
we're still trying to interpret where how down distance in
terms of where that spit lands relative to him? Was
that I spit in your general direction? Jalen Carters, there's
no there's no right. No excuse me. I'm not saying

(14:05):
he got right gets a free pass without that that
is against the l L.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Look but in terms of interpreting, because fighting, like, think
about it this way, this is this is why I
agree with that. Because fighting in the NFL, it doesn't
matter who starts it. If two people fight, you both
get ejected. Right that that's how it goes. The same
thing here, spitting is against the rules and it merits
an ejection. And Jalen Carter clearly spin at Dak Prescott.

(14:32):
He merits an ejection. I watch this, there's no way
that he spit down and didn't spit at him because
again the angle of his head. Again, he raises his
head to spit. You don't raise your head to spit
if you're spinning right now at him, because if you spin,
if you raise your head when you're spitting, you run
the risk. And I can't believe this is the conversation
that we're having, but this is it is. If you

(14:55):
raise your head while you're spitting, if you're just spinning down,
you run the risk of that going down your chin.
Nobody wants that. Again, spitting is for me to have
this conversation. Understand, I'm sucking it up so much for
you tonight because this is the most disgusting thing and
I have a problem with talking about and seeing it,
and I really have a thing. So I'm just white
knuckling my way through the show tonight.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Honestly, I just Alex has got like fourteen drops. I'm
the last too many.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
I am white knuckling this because it's just so disgusting.
But you don't that's not how you act if you're
just spitting on the ground. The fact that it's all
one thing. I lean my head forward, I spit. He
didn't spit at his chest? Did he spit more at
his belly? Or spit at your pants? Okay, but that's
still spitting at someone, and that's still if you're rejecting
that guy. You're rejecting that guy.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
But that's the thing I missed the Jayleen Carter And
this is where we need more Zubruta film, Like did
he point to his pants and be like, hey, he
got me? Like we we didn't get history onics on
that side, at least to anything I've seen in the
immediate aftermath, or certainly now with the online detectives who
are on this like meat on a bone. Man, I'll

(15:58):
tell you, come on.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
As if the Cowboys and Eagles need anything to hate
each other more, now you have this.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Jerry Jones could go streaking through the field right now
and nobody would care.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
I gotta gotta take the attention away. So here, hold
my trench coat, hold my tie, and here here's the
cowboy socks.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
I should probably keep the shoes on. These are expensive.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
These are each one of these shoes is worth ten
thousand dollars.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
So I just want to let you know just think
about it. Run deck were to get suspended, you thought
he went scorched Earth for him missing games due to injury.
Does Jerry Jones wear sock supporters?

Speaker 4 (16:31):
Do you think you know?

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Do you think you wear socks? Yeah? Oh well yeah
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, socks support I think my
dad go all the way up. I think my dad.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
My dad is the only person who is like over
seventy and doesn't wear socks. Like I'm like, Dad, you
gotta wear socks, Dad, noh, I have don't wearing socks
since I was thirty years old. All right, Daddy, I
do it, But I mean it saves him a couple
of bucks each year. I'd rather have my dad wear socks.
Dad wear socks, don't wear boat shoes and then we
and not wear socks and take the shoes off when
you come to the house. Okay, no, no, no, you

(16:59):
keep the shoe is on when you come over if
you're not wearing socks.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
Okay, that just that. It's a rule, now it. Do
you buy your dad's socks for Christmas now or a birthday? No? No, no, no,
I don't know. It's some Yankee socks there, I got
my Okay, By the way, did you guys, did your
streak continue today? We are at eleven? Now, look at you,
we are at eleven.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
It's my pick for the Mountain now nervous Now, I'm like, okay,
we got our streak is at eleven?

Speaker 3 (17:24):
Come on now?

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Uh so, what's happen outside of Spitgate and what's happening
in the game right now? Telling you it's a spit
for spat George Pickens? Eh, that guy, Welcome to the game,
George Pickens. George Pickens just catches a pass for a
first down.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
Good for him. The Cowboys now have the football near
their own forty yard line with under three minutes left
to go. A touchdown would give them the lead.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Now, to talk about this game from the perspective of
following the spit, uh, this just takes you to the
point of and it's really so strange that all of
the breakdown we did of this game for a week
talking about the impact and how the Eagles should win
this game big, and how are the Cowboys going to
do without Micah Parsons And are the Cowboys going to

(18:12):
be able to do anything offensively? They probably can't run
the football. It's going to be very difficult. Before the
first play, an All Pro defensive tackle were the top
five defensive tackles in the game, gets thrown out for
spinning at Dak Prescott and that changes everything. It changes
everything as far as what the Cowboys think they can accomplish,
because you're taking one of the best players, probably the

(18:33):
best player defensively they have. You're taking him off the field,
and now you can run the football a little bit
more than you think. The Cowboys have run for one
hundred and twenty yards so far in this game, so
they run the football more than they expected to. Dak
is moving the football up and down the field more.
The first half was terrific.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
Yeah, just had a CD drop that would have been
thirty five forty yards.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
I mean, the Cowboys have been playing extremely well in
a game that the Eagle should probably have won by
many more points, and they're trying to hold on to win.
Now this has become a game all of this breakdown
and it goes out the window. But yeah, to play
like all the script. Think about Schottennheimer, it's like, hey
that script, look at that first drives, Like, yeah, that

(19:12):
script didn't exist.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
We were able to run. Hey put in a run play.
Put it run play. They just kicked him out.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
I mean, everything we talked about this game goes out
the window because that happens before the first play from scrimmage.
Like that's just you look at that and go man
again and I go back. You know, Jay, certain things
people say stick with me and always stick with me
in the course of my life. Just certain things. And
Jay Glazer all the stuff when easiest, stop by after
the game is over with us like he normally does.

(19:42):
Uh is that when when Jay says the NFL the
greatest reality show in the history of the world. Right,
like all the reality shows we have now they're on
the people watch, doesn't matter. The NFL is the greatest
reality show on the planet. In season, off season drama,
in game, outside of game, nothing is be than what
the NFL has. And clearly that's it, because all of

(20:03):
a sudden, here we are, we're spending time with the
defending Super Bowl champion and the Dallas Cowboys we couldn't
get enough of the last week because of that stupid
ass Micah Parsons trade.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
And we're talking.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
About two guys spinning at each other like that, Come on, man,
Like that's it like people say, oh, the NF. Oh
that's great man. This is what he makes the NFL different.
We're not getting this in any other sport. You gotta
go all the way back to Roberto Alomar spinning at
umpire in Major League Baseball for that to happen.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
That was almost thirty eight years ago. I mean, come on, man,
never stop being America.

Speaker 1 (20:36):
Never stop spinning at people if they get in your face. Like,
that's that's the part of this game that just.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
But you get storylines that pop out of the wind, right.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
I know.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
We have the injury on the opening kickoff, you lose
your fullback. Yeah, all of a sudden, you're you're on
the Eagles sideline. They're like, all right, our run games
probably gonna look a little different now. And then the
next play, Carter, before the next snap, Carter gets thrown out.
It's like, wow, that's that's a really active couple of
minutes for Drico and Collins. Yeah, he jumping. Kevin Harlan

(21:06):
was losing his mind on the radio, calls like, I
don't know what the hell's happening.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
Arion Foster's script. Clearly, we're gonna start out with a
bank We're not gonna ease into the season.

Speaker 3 (21:15):
We're gonna give you left turn right away.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
The way this started, you might as well cut straight
to a commercial for that new movie Hymn.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
It's like that Jordan Peele movie that's coming out.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
That's like that The Lethal Weapon two when the movie
opens right in the middle of a car chase, like
they're already going, well, it's like, that's how this season started. Hey,
we have a huge deal. Right before the first play,
right fourth first play, we have a huge deal. Uh
And now, speaking of huge deals, the Cowboys, with the

(21:45):
football facing a fourth and three near midfield, go for
it on fourth down and Dak throws a go route
to ceed Lamb, who lines up in the slide. He's
got Cooper de John on him and it looks like
maybe he's looks like he gets a hand out there,
but I think that I think the swipe of of

(22:06):
of his arm looked a little bit worse than it was.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
No flag is thrown. CD could have gotten the ball.
It was a little out in front of him, but
catchable ball. He extended his way and it looked like
it was catchaball, except he doesn't. There's not a huge
Hubbub for a flag from the Dallas Cowboys. Again, I
think it looked worse the first time because you see
Dejon reach with his arm and CD kind of goes down,

(22:31):
but he gets a little bit like misdirected body wise,
but he still has a full chance to make a play.
So I guess that's why you don't throw.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
The I think that's a good non calls, you know,
seeing it the second time, like certainly the first time,
it looks like a penalty right naked eye. You see
his arm come out, maybe he grabbed him and Ceee
Lamb extends for the ball. Okay, so he knocked him down,
but you see the replay and he's going out and
it's there and he just doesn't get it. And that's
that's the first big drop that he had in the

(23:01):
second half. I mean, it's a full extension for him,
but it's not like the ball is off his fingertips
like he is able to almost reel it in. Yeah,
two times drop by Ceedee Lamb, and I mean it's
a good non call. And now the Eagles have the football.
The Cowboys will have a couple of time outs left,
so if the Eagles can't get a first down here, Uh, Dallas,
looks like they will get the football back with a

(23:22):
decent amount of time. Remember they got to go the
length of the field being down twenty four to twenty.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
Good job on first down, Barkley trying to stretch it.
Good open field tackle to get it done. So now
on the second down play is that an AJ Brown sideing?

Speaker 4 (23:39):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (23:39):
AJ Brown caught a pass? Breaking news? AJ Brown caught
a pass? Breaking news? Does Monzy have that? AJ Brown
caught a pass? Monzie? Do you have this? AJ Brown
caught a pass? What do they breaking news? I like
the Tiger played all of them. It just started. It's
smashing buttons. That was as funny as hell.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
You just all the sounders it once. That isn't the
That is the first catch of the night for AJ Brown.
That is catch number one and it now sets up
the Eagles with a third and three first down. Here,
we'll clinch the game for them. Fourth down, they'll be
punting the ball back to the Cowboys. But wow, how
about he got that eight yard catch?

Speaker 3 (24:22):
How about that? Everywhere? Fantasy owners? At least I didn't
get skunked.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
Now, I think a lot of fantasy owing to say, well,
I'd rather get he's gonna suck that much, give me zero,
so I could really stare at that and get mad.
That one point eight points on EPR might matter. I'm
getting mad at that one salty.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
If you're in a Gillatine lead at one point eight
points might matter. No, Jason, I'm mad at you. Well,
you mad mean.

Speaker 5 (24:43):
I had a great bit for this whole spit play
by play, but she didn't even go to the sound.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Okay, you don't get it. I didn't. I didn't know.
You know, you're not supposed to know. We have an
hour and forty five minutes off to the show. You
know what do you mean? You're done? What are you
talking next?

Speaker 1 (24:57):
Wait, we've been dismissed us day pay. Speaking of being done,
it looks like that's the game. On a third and three,
Jalen hurts back to pass, doesn't see what he likes downfield,
scrambles for a first down. Looks like he's gonna get
hit well short of the first down, but he cuts
back to the inside of the field and is able

(25:19):
to get the yardage for the first down. So the
Eagles look like they're gonna win this game. Cowboys have
one time out left a buck forty five left to go.
H Jalen Hurts making the game saving play. I mean,
a phenomenal play by him, right, he sees the linebackers
coming in on him and he makes that cutback and
he safely gets the first down by a couple of yards.

(25:39):
Nick Sirianni's got his fist in the air and my
fingers going forward and the Eagles look like they're gonna
hold on and win this game twenty four to twenty.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
Yeah, that's the tail of this game.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
I mean it.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
Hurts did that a number of times in the first half,
and when they needed it most, there wasn't a number
eleven on the Cowboys side to try to chase him down.
You know, could have used Michael Parsons on that, because
sure as hell didn't stop the run keep them from
getting anything up the gut over the course of the night.
But alas for the Cowboys. But you know what, unless
something really crazy happens, you're plus seven plus seven and

(26:12):
a half plus eight plus eight and a half. You're
cashing tickets tonight. But hey, here's the whole thing. What
Jerry Jones, they made that move. They needed to stop
the run. They did. They needed to stop the run.
It's good they didn't have Micah Parsons for that play.

Speaker 6 (26:24):
Well.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
I mean, look, the Eagles will only run for one
hundred and sixty yards tonight.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
And Cede Lamb is sitting on the sideline right now,
pointing to himself saying, my fault, my fault, my fault
not coming down with that pass.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
Uh. The Eagles are kneeling on the football.

Speaker 4 (26:41):
Now.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
They're gonna win this thing twenty four to twenty, and
believe it or not, now the fun really starts. We're
gonna be talking about Spitgate. We're gonna be talking about
Micah Parsons not being there. We're gonna hear from Jerry Jones,
We're gonna hear from Dak Prescott, Nick Sirianni.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
CD lamb Oh. The fun is just beginning. Wow.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Win at twenty four to twenty. But must listen radio.
The rest of the way is here Jason and Mike
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Okay, let's get started, Ben Mallard. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
Eagles hold on to beat the Cowboys twenty four to twenty.
Jalen Carter is ejected for spitting at Dak Prescott. Video
shows Dak Prescott spitting at Jalen Carter. First yay, a
third and three play for the Eagles results in the
first down. Jalen hurts, needs boy, the Cowboys could have

(27:38):
used Michael Parsons on that he was never gonna throw
the ball. Nobody better to break this down to welcome
back for another year. A guy that I've been quoting
all night tonight. Yes, you have, because I've been saying
this Jalen Carter story. I always think back to Jay
Glazer saying the NFL is the greatest reality show in
the history of the world. NFL on Fox, Jay Glazer

(28:00):
with us, Now what's happening, buddy?

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Happy opening?

Speaker 4 (28:02):
Now what's going on? Man? A good night? Man? Actually
watched over Yama, back Casino, Rosie and I and heading
back home now. But hey, greatest reality show in the world.
You can't make that up.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
No, no, no, been talking about the first place before.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
The I want to I want to correct I want
to correct you, he said. Dak Prescott spitted Jalen, and
Jalen spitted Jack, that's not no, Dak spit on the ground.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
Dak at him. Dak spit at him.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
You see, there's but on the ground and on a person.
Two totally different mens, I think. But also he's behind
his lineman. No, two totally different things. Man, you cannot
spit on a dune. No no, I'm not.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
Saying Jaylen Carter didn't deserve to get thrown out. Absolutely
he did, but that Dak's the instigator. He leaned forward
to spit at him in his smiling laughing at him
right after like that, that's that's that doing it first.

Speaker 4 (28:55):
He's seven yards away and like he's spitt at the ground.
It's totally different things, not even the same strategy, not
even close. And one was obviously flagged. One wasn't. The
ref said, you know the same thing. They gotta have
more control than even if somebody instigates you like that,
like Dak is. And I don't know if he really
was or not, because Jaylen Carter is not the guy

(29:17):
you want to instigate. No, no, no, no no, no,
he is. Like d I was an Eagles camp. They're like, hey, man,
just we know, like did you like to joke around
with already don't joke aim.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
So what do you what do you take away from
tonight's game? Was this a lost opportunity for the Cowboys?
Was this just one of those games where it was
crazy because of what happened early on?

Speaker 4 (29:40):
But I actually said, you know, the Cowboys got lots
to hang their hats out about what your offense looked like,
you know, defensively, I actually thought they generated a lot
of pass rush. It's just as hard as a Jalen.
I thought they were much better than what a lot
of people were expecting. And then just you know, Philadelphia, dude,
it's you know, if you can't get them, they are

(30:01):
just gonna gut you and gut your gut you with
the run. Just too many weapons on that's on, you know,
that's what you know. Saques is gonna beat you down,
beat you down. But the way Jalen runs and that
also just two of them, it's hard to stop if
you don't jump out early to leave with them. Uh
over Philadelphia, they're just gonna pound you away. And we

(30:23):
all know what the choice push does kind of like hey,
you know, you're you're always like you know, they're like
first to eight pretty much right, But same thing with
what their running game does you, man, you you better
put away early part of the game because if it's close,
you know later on and you have to figure out
if they're gonna run or pass whatever it is that

(30:44):
Philadelphia's just able to paddle lead. They're just gonna run
it and run it, run it and run it, and
they can't stop them.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Well, Jail, Jalen Hurd's getting with the magical stuff. But
for the last week, Jay, I mean, we've got the
documentary going on for the Cowboys that we've been watching.
We already have a season worth over the last week.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
Yeah. By the way, that documentary was unbelievable, insane, unbelievable, unbelievable.
It was so well made. And obviously I have you know,
with Jimmy Johnson for twenty four years and really close
with Try and Michael and them, all those guys, Prime
and Ben. It was so well made. Man, What did
you guys think was better that or the last stamps?

Speaker 3 (31:24):
Oh? This is far better. I knew Michael Thornton was
pay and I knew this was crazy. But there was
many wrinkles to this that you know with secondary character.

Speaker 4 (31:34):
Jordan had the iPad, but this is just produced so well, man,
it was great.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
So Jay obviously, now it's been a few days and
boy Dallas cooly, could he use Michael Parsons tonight? What's
been what's been the fallout? Now we've had a few
days to get used to the Micah Parsons trade, and
Mike is talking about loving life in Green Bay and
the Cowboys are talking about life without him. Well, where
is it now that the dust is settled?

Speaker 4 (31:57):
I just think it was just hard to repair that relationship,
you know, and and you know, Michael wanted to move on.
They wanted to move on. I just thought they looked
at it like this is not this is irreparable. And
I've been around the Cowboys for a long time. I
don't remember a lot of things being irreparable with players
and Jerry and I just like it became that. And
then you know, if you're sitting there going, well, this
isn't just you know, let's say a receiver, this is

(32:18):
gonna you know, we have two hundred million dollars in
our chap wrapped up, or you know, the five year
deal of quarter of a million. You got to be
absolutely positive and sure, and he certainly wasn't on the Cowboys.
The Cowboys that think it just got kind of it
was ended up becoming a divorce that things both sides

(32:39):
saw it kind of happened, and Cowboys are going, hey,
we need we really need to reload. You know the
best thing we could possibly send somewhere to reload, and
we have to reload through draft Chapel. They do a
really good job with their draft between Will McLay and
Van Jerry and those guys, they really do they draft
right well, you know, figureing, hey, we got to reload
here and that's the only way we could do it.

(33:01):
Same way with I don't want to compare it to
the rehearstal Walker trade because that was better trade, you
know that that they did back in the day. But
I just think it was you know, I know when
I got out there, I'll just tell you this, whenever
I went around a camp, every team, every team asked
me what I thought was gonna happen. Every team said
they're only gonna trade them are I said, I absolutely

(33:23):
believe they're gonn trading. I totally believe they're gonn trade it.
And they're like, no, come on, I'm like no, I'm
telling you that I believe they're gonna trade them, yes,
and I and I never didn't.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
What's curious, though, Jay, in the reporting, if you could
shed some light on how long a window was it,
you know, because it seemed like it all came together
just that fast. I mean between the packers and cowboys.
Was it really that quick, lightning fast?

Speaker 4 (33:47):
Yeah, it wasn't. The once once they gave the agent
permission to talk, that happened real fast. And they didn't
did that until the very very very end. So until
that happens, you really, like, really matter because if Mike
was like, no, I'm not I'm not gonna negotiate with them,
He's not gonna go anywhere. So they had to get
his okay in it also, and then they had to

(34:07):
do that.

Speaker 7 (34:08):
Really quickly and see if they can work it out.
And I remember being with the packers the week before
they everyone were asking me like, come on, they're really
gonna do it. I'm like, don't tell me now, they're
really gonna do it, come on, okay, And I'm like,
and I said, the cow works to looking and going,
I'm taking a dead week, a lot of teams to
start jumping out quickly. And I told the packers up too.
I said, hey, man, I said, if.

Speaker 4 (34:30):
You really want to do this, you guys should go to.

Speaker 7 (34:33):
Get aggressive before every.

Speaker 4 (34:34):
Other team jumps out there. But I mean Brian.

Speaker 7 (34:37):
Good just knew what he was doing and knew.

Speaker 4 (34:38):
That he wanted to do it in the first place.
I think he was just kind of looking at the headlight.
They're really going to do this, But then you have
to get Mike and the agents, you know, and the
Cowboys solicien for them to try and work out a deal.
To work out a deal pretty quickly.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
NFL on foxes Jay Glazer with us here Jason Smith,
Mike Carmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Now,
as far as Parsons goes, he's ramping up up to
play the pack. It's their call for him playing. What
are you hearing? Do you think he plays Sunday?

Speaker 4 (35:05):
I think you does that? Just don't know to an extent.
I and be honest with you, guys, are just I
don't ask until the weekend, so I wait until you
know they got another couple of workouts, So I usually
don't wait till after all the workouts are done.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
So as you you do, going camp to camp, Jay
and we celebrate you thirty one years today. The anniversary
of the NFL.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
Is this thirty two, thirty third tamp I thought you
met that.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
Oh no, I meant for the NFL on Fox right
as you guys the family gets back together. But for
your training camp tours, is there one story you normally
have pranks? I know Jalen Carter wasn't on the list,
but any good tales from the road, Oh prank?

Speaker 4 (35:41):
Anybody is shore on the road? Oh my god, no,
But I tell you it was cool, man. I I
gave full mental health talks this year to teams. That
was really, really, really cool. And you know a lot
of my the way I'm doing it now is like, look,
I got brought in for years because I've trained so
many of these players, the mixed martial arts and our
whole thing for the the players that we coach, the
fighters that we coach. If you were hurt and tired

(36:03):
in that cage, you will never ever ever know from
our fighters.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
In the only thing we lost the world.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
But I said, my partner in this, Brandy Gutore, broke
his arm in half and the heavyweight Championship of the world.
He's like, no, I can't show it, can't show it,
don't show'm hurt, don't show hurt, the obviously stop fight.
And I'm like, you need that. You're a football flier, fighter,
you need that mentality. If you don't show it, you
don't show it. If you're hurt or tired, you never
show it any cage or off the field. But the

(36:38):
truth is most of us don't live in a cage
or on a field, and so many of us, especially men,
wait for that field, to wait for that cage, that
same exact attitude. If you don't show it, you don't
show it, you don't show it, get so many of
us the living shame. And you know, guys like me,
I'd say it's harder for me because I you know, uh,

(36:59):
I've been dying, know sch depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar and
something of low CD anxiety other that of a model
of stability. But I'm like, guys, the thing that's changed
my life and will change you too, is again you're
we're ingrained as dude, you don't show it. Now I'm

(37:19):
telling you to change that. There's a whole new, unbreakable mindset.
You could have two one in occasion in the field
of one awayment, but lean into your teammates. Think how
closest will make you If you are vulnerable, you open
up your your trauma and your scars. Man, those are
your superpowers. You share those. I would die from my
fight teammates. So that's been tests already. Like I know,

(37:40):
I will and figure how closest will make you as
a team if you guys lean into each other. And
the other thing I've done is, like you know, since
I've started talking about this three or four years ago,
and since I've really started get the help that I need,
I've started to do a deep dive not talking to
these guys about turning their mental health into mental wealth.
I actually have started to kind of sit there my

(38:02):
pain of my depression, anxiety, the adioc where they actually
helped me, Where they become my superpower? Where have I
weaponized them? Because if I have, if I view them differently,
like they're my superpower and I'm not ashamed by him anymore,
and I can really share them with others and not
living that shame as everything. If I got a bunch
of teammates I could lean into, Man, it makes the

(38:24):
world so much better for us to exist in and
It was a really really it was cool to talk
to all these seems I've talked to him. It was
beautiful Tim, you.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
Know, and lastly Jay obviously you know I love this stuff.
He was speaking of teammates. This is going to be
your first NFL on Fox here without Jimmy Johnson who
retired earlier.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
Are you any.

Speaker 1 (38:45):
Different thoughts for you going into this season with with
Jimmy not being there? A different thing? Like where are
you right now?

Speaker 4 (38:51):
I'll be honest with you, guys. Man. He called me
at the combine and tell me. And I was having
dinner with TODDA. Peters and John Lynch and he called
me and I had to go move myself from the table.
I started crying because that's it's a twenty two year relationship.
Medis long. This relationship my life, you know, like and man,

(39:13):
but put the kid, you know, like Jimmy and a man.
We got so close for these last few years and
it was pretty cool. You now, were sitting together just
in them your avocado room this past year. You know,
I called him, drink about it, drink about it. It's so
cool that I got to you know, how close we've gotten.
And he's like Yeah, I'm really proud of you, of
what you've done. He goes, took me a while to

(39:34):
figure you out, and I figured you out. You don't
know anything else but to fight, and you have nothing
else in you but to fight, fight, fight, and you
don't have to anymore. But you don't know that about you.
That's all you got. And I appreciate that about you,
and I was like, oh my god, like to hear
that from a guy like Jimmy Johnson. Man, that is

(39:56):
a career highlight.

Speaker 7 (39:57):
That's far.

Speaker 3 (39:59):
He's on to it.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
Are at Jay Glazer, check out Jay wherever you want
to of course on NFL on Fox this Sunday. Founder
of MVP and Unbreakable Performance, the true mental health warrior.
Jay as always, buddy, thanks for stopping by, looking forward
another great season, every great with hid a rosie for us.

Speaker 3 (40:18):
Happy to do your buddy. Thanks, there goes Jay.

Speaker 1 (40:20):
Yeah, big deal now right, Gronk take him take out
jim Johnson's place.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
Big deal deal. Look, I've only met Jimmy Johnson a
couple of times in my life, and you know, we've
we've obviously been talking to Jay for these years, but
like he's just been a fixture in what we've done
right and being part of this larger Fox world as
long as I have like, that's a big loss. So
my thoughts with Jay and and all the crew there

(40:45):
and Terry and Howie and all man, it's gonna be
a different and different energy obviously with Roug Goowski coming
in and excited to see what he does in that seat,
but it's definitely gonna be a different look for for
all of us watching the NFL on Fox.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (41:10):
Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Happy opening night of
the NFL.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
We made it. We made it through Night one.

Speaker 4 (41:23):
Yay.

Speaker 1 (41:24):
We had players spitting at each other, we had a
weather delay, and in the end we had the Super
Bowl champion Eagles beat the Dallas Cowboys twenty four to twenty.

Speaker 3 (41:35):
Succeed and proceed. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (41:38):
I mean, look, I'm gonna tell you how the whole
spit Gate's gonna end in a couple of minutes. But
just to understand the Cowboys. They missed a huge chance tonight.
This was like, this was not just to hey, to
get a win on the road against the defending champs, right,
because that would be enough, right to say, hey, we're
not supposed to win. We're on the road against the

(41:58):
Super Bowl champions. This is a to be an l
for us. Boy, A win would be great, that would
really be.

Speaker 3 (42:03):
Something, right.

Speaker 1 (42:04):
But this was a way to not only get a win,
but to take the entire narrative of we're worse that
with Micah Parsons, we're worse that we you know, get
get you know, realizing we got to stop the run,
all the drama that we had, that we've gone through,
the fact that we didn't really get guys in the offseason,
we didn't go crazy free agency wise, We're still top heavy.

(42:26):
It's it's been it's the same old thing. To be
able to step in and get a win like this
was a huge mischance because they should have won the
game because they showed. Look, and the one thing we
talked about liking about the Cowboys coming into the seasons,
what did I say, They're gonna score points? This offense
is gonna be good because Dak has the weapons, and
clearly they're able to run the football a little bit

(42:47):
more because Jalalen Carter's thrown out of the gate for
spinning at Dak Prescott, so it become things become a
little bit easier. But it's not like they ran the
football all of a sudden. They were you know, peak
peak Barry Sanders, where everything was like nine yards of carry. No,
they ran the football. Okay enough, and that's gonna be
the Cowboys identity. We'll run just as much as we
have to, but really our way out is through the air.

(43:08):
But because they were able to run the ball a
little bit better tonight again they ran for one hundred
and twenty yards. This game was there for them, and
CD Lamb had a you know, stat wise, he had
a really good game. But man, he dropped three big
passes and that last one he's got to get you
really all three of them in the fourth course, he's
got the drop two on the last drive and one
when he was cutting in the middle of the field
like when he probably heard footsteps, Like your CD Lamb,

(43:29):
you got to make those plays right.

Speaker 3 (43:31):
Like, oh, this is why you're paid as one of
the top wide receivers and you're considered one of the
top guys, and he made it look easy early. Obviously
he got to feast a little bit because he was
going against the number two corner. Mitchell worked on George
Pickens quite frequently over the course of the night, so
they took advantage of that order. Adda Ray Jackson getting

(43:53):
towards early on. I mean you saw his name trending
because it was a lot of CD lamb and big
play opportunities early. And then when they had him late,
ball's just going through his hands and they all catchable balls.
Not you know, the last one is a dive, but
still one that was more a dive to maybe sure

(44:14):
you got to catch that. This is not where it
went off his fingertips.

Speaker 1 (44:17):
This is I had it, Yeah, the go get it
with this is This is not George Pickens dropping pass.
Would you say, okay, well, yeah, that's what happens when
you throw to George Pickens. I mean you're thrown to
your guy and you you need you you gotta come
down with those man. This is a again, this is
just how I look at it when I say, boy,
that is such a missed opportunity for the Cowboys that
could have flipped the narrative and started their season off

(44:37):
incredibly different.

Speaker 3 (44:38):
Well, but think about the post game for us, the
glory of Jerry Jones coming into the spake Zaraesthustra or
something and some interest music like a WWE superstar to
announce the greatness that he got over on the you know,
the defending champs in this big moment. But also when
you're talking about what the start this season would look like,

(45:02):
you get a w HERE Division game huge yep. You
push the narratives that you don't know what you're doing,
at least quiet them for a second, and maybe this
will be enough for some of the hot takee Nah
whom ceed. Lamb's now going to be the worst wide
receiver in the world, you know that, and that'll be
all over the place. But you got week two with

(45:23):
the Giants at home, week three on the road with
the Bears, So potentially before the Mica battle at the
end of the month, you might have been looking at
a three and zero like not like each game independent
and you know we always do that thing. It's like,
well we should add a nine game winning street. He's
like yeah, but if you don't lose that one there

(45:44):
do you necessarily course correct and make the But in
this case, this was everything right. We had fights right
off the job. Not just the spitting incident, oh yeah,
but almost after every play in the first two possessions
there seemed to be at least two guys getting after
it or it was like, wow, this is gonna be
one of those games allad Cowboys Eagles, you know, but

(46:04):
this isn't this isn't Jaguars Bill. But there was no build.
It was let's just get after it, right. Normally, there's
still gotta be something to precipitate that level of anxiety,
angst and hatred. No, no, no, we got right after
it like it was mid season four. Sou for that,
I'm thankful. We got a great game the Cowboys with
the points spread gets you your money whatever, but it

(46:29):
gave us all sorts of great moments but missed opportunities
to Miles Sanders fumble and the CD Lamb drops. That
now sets up the narrative for the next sixteen games
for these Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (46:40):
Now, obviously the spitting incident is going to take front
page headlines. Now we're gonna lay it out for you.
How it unfolded tonight and then I'll tell you how
this is going to end, and you're gonna.

Speaker 3 (46:52):
Say, oh, you're right and yeah.

Speaker 1 (46:54):
To show that I I'll be okay meeting people in
the middle with this.

Speaker 3 (46:59):
Here's me.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
I'm a great negotiator. I'll be okay meeting people in
the middle on this. So before the first play from scrimmage,
Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter, one of the best DT's
in the NFL second team All Pro last year, gets
ejected because he is spitting at Dak Prescott. Cameras caught
him doing it. He spit at him. It was unsportsmanlike
conduct and an ejection. This is what it sounded like

(47:21):
on the broadcast.

Speaker 3 (47:26):
Tight Shirt, what do you do? I don't know. I
like the guy playing The guy playing the fife was
pretty good. What hell you got going on there? What
is that like one of those quest games where you're
going through the shire wild? It was? It was the
return of the tight shirt? Frodo the hell?

Speaker 1 (47:46):
Sam Wise rashious, precious all right, here's the call of
Jalen Carter spitting at Dak Prescott that.

Speaker 2 (47:53):
We're coming down. The rat Newman was in front of me.
Hernandez was coming toward us. As he asses us, Newman
turns and says.

Speaker 3 (48:02):
Nice game, pretty boy.

Speaker 2 (48:07):
Nan has continued past us up the ranch.

Speaker 1 (48:10):
A second later, something happened that changed us in a
very deep and profound way.

Speaker 2 (48:17):
From that day forward, he spin on us.

Speaker 1 (48:23):
And I like the laugh track the reporters going along.
I was waiting for the base to come over the top.
Roger McDowell is going to wake up tomorrow and go,
why is my phone ringing? Oh yeah, I'm okay for
an interview?

Speaker 3 (48:35):
I'm okay. Is he on Dan Patrick tomorrow? Roger McDowell's
on Dan Patrick tomorrow? Hundred percent?

Speaker 7 (48:40):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (48:41):
So, here it is.

Speaker 1 (48:41):
Here's a play by play of Jalen Carter spinning on
Dak Prescott's.

Speaker 8 (48:46):
Steve couldn't have started worse unsports fan like conduct or
the Eagles unsportsmanlike conduct of the Eagles, in particular on
Jalen Harder and even worse Carter, one of the Eagles,
both the packful players, because he checked it from the
game of the very first before the very first play.

Speaker 1 (49:06):
From the Spurvit all right, so there is Merril Reese
with the call. Now how many times you think. Meryl
Reese referenced that over the course during this was all
the beginning his last final call going off the air
when he said, this was a disaster to start, but
we found it when so Jayalen Carter gets thrown out
of the game. Now after halftime, midway through the third quarter,

(49:28):
we get caught in the weather delay because there's lightning
in the Philadelphia area. So while this is going on NBC,
and basically the lightning was out of Jerry Jones's fingers
causing the lightning delay. Because Miles Sanders fumbled, the Eagles
recovered it was a big deal. He wanted the Cowboys
to have some time to get their legs back under him.
So lightning out of his.

Speaker 3 (49:46):
Hands, absolutely power fighting Mace Windu and getting after it. Okay, yes,
and then Jason Garrett came picked him up and threw
him down the shaft. So the lightning no, I'm not
even gonna do this.

Speaker 1 (49:57):
And NBC unearth's an angle of Dak Prescott spitting at
Jalen Carter first where he was a few yards away
from him. But you see Dak Prescott lean forward, lift
his head up, spit at Jalen Carter. Don't know where
the spit landed, but right away was smiling, laughing. Jalen

(50:17):
Carter and he start joining with each other, and Jalen
Carter spits it Dak and gets thrown out. Here's Mike
Turrico on NBC with the call when they found the
video and are describing what they're seeing watching it.

Speaker 8 (50:31):
Hernandez passes and starts walking up the ramp.

Speaker 2 (50:35):
Then you say you were struck on the.

Speaker 5 (50:40):
Spit then proceeds to ricochet off the temple, striking Newman
between the third.

Speaker 3 (50:46):
And the fourth rip.

Speaker 1 (50:49):
That's about where it landed. It could have been around
there a third or fourth rib. Third and fourth rib
is where it landed at Newman. Uh so again here here,
So now, before we get to the second spinner and Roger.

Speaker 9 (51:00):
Dak Spitz down sports the ground, but in the direction
of the Eagles with Carter who had walked over there,
and that begins the interaction of the two. Prescott's spit
was down.

Speaker 1 (51:11):
So that was Tarico describing it at that point. Now
Dak Prescott has weighed in on that. He just met
the media. They talked about what happened, and the reporter
asked out the whole spit incident with mister Carter and
did you spit at him? And here is Dak Prescott's response.

Speaker 6 (51:27):
I'll probably spent a thousand times throughout the game, I mean,
especially game day, maybe even in general, and something I
I guess I'm not proud of. But in that case,
he was trolling. I guess you could say, trying to
mess with Tyler Booker. I was just looking at him.
I was right here by the two linemen, and I
guess I needed to spit and I wasn't gonna spind
on my linman, and I.

Speaker 4 (51:44):
Just spit ahead.

Speaker 6 (51:45):
But I'd say he was back there where Joey was
in that sense, and he asked, or he goes, you're
trying to spin on me? And at that point, I mean,
I felt like likeke he was insulting me, like I
don't I wouldn't spind on somebody. I'm damn sure not
trying to spin on you.

Speaker 1 (51:58):
They We're about to play a game.

Speaker 6 (52:00):
And was wondering why you're trying to mess with the rookie.
So when I stepped through, I actually say the words,
what the hell would excuse me? But I'm probably even
more colorful. What would I need to spin on you
for and he just spent on me in that moment
and was more of a surprise than anything. Refs obviously
saw it through the flag. I was like, hell, yeah,
we get fifteen yards to start the game off. Didn't
realize he was getting ejected. Unfortunate that he did. Hell

(52:21):
of a player changed our plan and our blocking scheme,
as I've told you all right before the week that
that we're going to protect against him. So helped in
that manner. But I don't wish for anybody to get
out of the game. I'm sure he probably regrets that
to some extent. I'm pretty sure he knows I didn't
try to spin on him, or wasn't even aiming to
spin on him. So something that's probably gona get a
lot of coverage and a lot of attention. That so

(52:44):
sorry for in the sense of, uh, yeah, I mean,
I know how excited each and every one of us
are right to kick off the season and the season opener,
and hell of a player like that doesn't even get
a chance in the first play. Yeah, unfortunate circumstances.

Speaker 1 (52:59):
Yeah, not that you didn't instigate not buying it. That's
not how you saw his entire body language and what
he did react. He acted very quickly. He leaned into
spit at him. He instigated it. Okay, but here's where
I talk about negotiating where I can meet you in
the middle on this. Okay, Okay, Eagles win the game
twenty four to twenty. So, okay, Eagles, they're mad, right,

(53:20):
because here's Dak instigating the situation. Whether he where the
spit landed, Dak still instigated this by spinning at him.
They didn't catch it, but they so they caught Jalen Carter.
The NFL is gonna look at this, right because now
Jalen Carter potentially could get suspended for week two, right
that he could get to that's the suspension is on
the table for the NFL is gonna look at this

(53:41):
and see that, Yeah, Dak might have instigated this a
little bit, so you know what time served. And because
they're gonna because there would be an absolute uproar if suddenly, oh,
Jalen Carter gets suspended when clearly Dak spits at him,
and I'm not buying his reasoning, like he's probably just
trying to instigate get under his his get under his
collar a little bit. So I think what's gonna happen

(54:05):
in this everybody's gonna be happy about it is that
they're gonna say, Okay, we saw that Dak maybe instigated this,
So Jalen Carter got thrown out of the game time served,
he'll be able to play week two, and the Eagles
will say that's fine. The Cowboys will say, that's fine
because Dak's not getting suspended. We lost the game. We're
not losing our quarterback for week two. The Eagles saying, well,
we lost our guy for week one, but we won

(54:25):
the game, so we're not gonna get too mad about it.
And we know that clearly our player should have gotten
thrown out of the game because you can't do that.
You can't spit out a player, right, So with there
more evidence there, the Eagles will say, okay, we'll accept it.
We'll accept and that's how it's gonna end. It will
end with them saying Jalen Carter can play week two,
and they're not gonna say that Dak instigated it, because
then they then there would be an uproar of well,

(54:47):
if you think he instigated spit out a guy, that's
still a penalty. That's still could be a suspension because
we lost our guy for the whole game. You know,
you guys should lose your guys for the whole game.
But the fact that they won the NFL will just
say the jurisprudence was merited. He goes ejected from the game,
and that's it, right, that's basically a whole game suspension.
You're talking about spending him for two games if it's

(55:08):
a introjection another one. So that's how it's gonna end.
And I think everybody's gonna be happy about it.

Speaker 3 (55:13):
Yeah, and yeah, with the Dak Prescott thing, it's a
subject to interpretation at near instigating. You know, Carter clearly
responds terribly. I don't I don't take back any of
the the details and what we talked about when we
started the show, right, I mean that all still holds true.

(55:34):
It's it's just bad, bad business and dumb. And Jay
Glazer even said he's like, that's the guy they told
me a camp that I can't mess with, right, So
I mean that's kind of the reputation, so don't do it.
But I think Dak also has that in his playbook
that he knows that and whatever's going on with the lineman.
Carter's kind of drifting. It's almost like jumping into a huddle,

(55:56):
like we've seen guys do that on a NBA benches.
All of a sudden they're standing outside of a huddle.
That's kind of what Carter's starting to do. He's drifting
over that way. So he spits, but he's staring at
him and I don't that's a quick exchange. But you know,
whatever the magic words are that get Dak to have
that bright eyed response, that's it, right. It triggers from there,

(56:21):
and so the NFL has to decide, all right, do
we want to go Zabruta film and get every piece
of tape, including the people that were filming from the
fifty yard line with the telescopic lenses, and commission all
of that, or do we just say time served? They won.
Here's giant giant finds. So the good folks that handle

(56:44):
and administer the NFL charities win. I think that's really
where it comes down to it. And everybody's going to
get a tersely worded notice because evidential you spit on anyone, Okay,
thanks well, but just in general, I guess the point
of emphasis and ross to talked about this on the
radio uh broadcast with Kevin Harlan, and you had others

(57:05):
uh chiming in, going look, when we met with officials,
they just kept talking that unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were probably
gonna be up in the first few weeks because it
was going to be a point of emphasis, right the
old think of the children, Think of the children, and
the example you're setting. And then right away you got
a guy spitting on somebody. Just don't spin on anyone.

(57:27):
That's all I have. That's that's a good memo.

Speaker 1 (57:30):
I mean, you don't want to have it really worthy
lost from the desk of Roger Goodell. Don't spin at anyone, Sincerely,
Commissioner Roger Goodell. Exit al about a Fresco exit swallendump.
So that's a show. I'm okay, I can meet I
can meet there, and I think that's absolutely fine.

Speaker 3 (57:47):
But now you hate Dak Prescott. You're saying there like like,
what's Chris Parnell going? Why run? Why that's not.

Speaker 1 (57:58):
That's not the innocent guy here, Like oh, I just
walked in and said, why are you doing this? I
don't understand. Stop dang, stop with that man. Stop that's ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (58:05):
Just stop. You instigated it, right, you instigated it. You
got lucky and and and if if this is how
it ends, I'm okay with that ending that way. By
the way, he's also lucky that spit instead of what
could have happened with a roundhouse. Right, and all of
a sudden he's on his ast like, what did Jake
Lazer tell us, don't fool around with Jaywien? No, don't
not that guy, don't mes around him.
