And let's start up there in the city of brotherly
love or not the city of brotherly.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Something I suppose, thank you. The city of brotherly love.
Speaker 5 (01:32):
Where your girlfriend's favorite quarterback and let's be honest mine too.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
Seems to be that they do not necessarily agree with
one another, seeing quotes from this ESPN article written by
Tim McManus and Jeremy Fowler saying it was a breath
of fresh air as the season ended, and both of
these guys, Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts, after the Philadelphia
(02:00):
Eagles went on.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
A roller coaster ride of a season.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
It went up, up, up, up, up ump ten and one,
and then right down into the plunge.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Said.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
The relationship with Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts is one
that had grown problematic throughout the time, and it was
all types of stress, all types of issues. And now
offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is supposed to quote bridge the
gap between the two, and his story ends saying you know,
will they go to dinner together? Hell no, But it
(02:33):
can be a good working, professional relationship. And I don't
think that it's hatred. I'm gonna break this down real.
Speaker 6 (02:41):
Quick, guys.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
I'm other belief.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
If you look at Jalen Hirsch's football life coached by
his dad at Robert E. Lee High School, a very
honor believe his dad's name is, but dad high school
football coach who actually coached Brian Johnson, the previous offensive
coordinator for the Philadelphi the Eagles before Kevin Moore took
the job.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
You look at his college career coached by Nick Saban.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
We all saw him yesterday on Hard Knock talking about
quarterbacks and expectations and so forth, talking about Kayleb Williams.
But we all know him as pretty much at this
point the goat coach in college football and all the
coaches that he had on his staff. Then you look
where he transferred to after minds you being benched in
(03:29):
the National Championship Game for two a tongue bay loa.
After being benched at halftime of the National Championship Game.
I mean for a team in Alabama that you know
has been maybe would have won the game anyway, we
got benched. That halftime showed you know, nothing but class,
nothing but cheering on his teammates. There is no sulk,
(03:51):
there is no complaining, There is no bitching out of
Jalen Hurts. In that moment, he claps and pats his
fellow man on the back. Then he transfers to you
to Oklahoma where he plays for Lincoln Riley, who knows
a thing or two about quarterbacks. Just look around the league, Kyler,
Mary Baker, Mayfield, Caleb Williams Now Jalen Hurts knows a
(04:12):
thing or two. Those guys all in New York for
the Heisman ceremony. Jalen Hurts knows what this is supposed
to look like. He has been surrounded at every step
of the way with a winning culture. He has been
surrounded at every step of the way with alpha male
(04:33):
dominant head coaches. And maybe you want to say Kellen Moore,
and you want to say Lincoln Riley is more of
an offensive minded coach, but still nonetheless he controls that
side of the ball with a plumber entering Nick Sirianni,
who's doing fly eagles, fly at people?
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Who's talking to you? I mean a head coach that
needs to hold me back, guy in big Don.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
Jalen Hurts knows what this is supposed to look like,
and he knows that Nick Sirianni may not necessarily be
that guy.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Now what does he do? Does he complain? Does he
go to the media? Does he know?
Speaker 5 (05:13):
I mean, now we're reading this now, but this is
a training camp. Scoring from what happened last year, they
were ten and one at one point in the year.
Whole time the slide is happening, you don't see much
out of Jalen Hurts in terms of complaining about he coaches,
not complaining that his offensive coordinator got demoted, not complaining
that there's a new defensive coordinator, not complaining about any
of it.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
This goes to work. Jalen Hurts again.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
If he can, if he can succeed in an environment
led by Nick Saban and an environment led by Lincoln Riley,
then I feel like there's no reason why you shouldn't
be able to succeed with a high level NFL coach.
Nick Giranni's resume says he's a high level NFL coach,
but to me, his emotional capacity says something different. The
(05:58):
head coach is supposed to be the leader in the clubhouse.
The head coach is supposed to be the adult in
the room. There can be more adults than just the
head coach, but he's gotta be one of them. The
buck stops. Responsibility stops with the head coach. So when
Jalen Hurts sees all that acting crazy, I got it.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
Jalen Hurd see's acting crazy. You know, I get it.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
When I'm Jalen Hurts, you know, we get right now,
we get Chris Bussar back in the full Chris, what's
going on?
Speaker 7 (06:29):
Maybe my apologies to you to everyone else, there was
an accident. I know this sounds like the dog ate
my homework, but he didn't. There was an accident on
the highway that delayed everything, and that's why I'm a
few moments late, but I'm glad to be here. So
it sounds like, Martin, you are putting all the blame
for the supernatural funk is what I've termed it that
(06:54):
Philadelphia fell into last season.
Speaker 5 (06:57):
You're putting it all on Nick Sirianni, put the lion's
share of it of Nick Sirianni. But the reason why, Chris,
Just in case I'll summarizing for you a quick ten seconds.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Jalen Hurts has had so.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
Many great coaches throughout his football life that he seems
to me that he should know what a great coach
looks like. And I think that he's, you know, seeing
that Nick Sirianni may not be one.
Speaker 7 (07:17):
Well, yeah, he certainly had some great coaches. And I
do put the lion's share on Nick Sirianni for the
problems in his relationship with Jalen Hurts, because he's the
head coach.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Yep, he is the older.
Speaker 7 (07:33):
Man, and you know, you have you run the organization
or the team at least, And he admitted himself that
he was to blame for last season and that he
didn't give the players enough say and a big part
of then we're talking about the article that was on
ESPN dot com that revealed all the inner workings of
(07:56):
the relationship and last year was a poor relationship between
Sirianni and Jalen Hurts, which is really why that team
fell apart. But he he was two hands on last
year and didn't let the new OC Brian Johnson, kind
of have the offense. And he was too much, you know,
(08:18):
looking over things, too involved but this year, Martin, he
has stepped back, at least according to the article, and
now he's more hands off.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
And he said that he was going to let whoever.
Speaker 7 (08:34):
This is before they hired Kellen Moore as a new
offensive coordinator, whoever it is, He's gonna let him have
the offense.
Speaker 5 (08:40):
Well, real quick, who's the one who made the higher
I'm sure it.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Was probably the GM, Howie Rose.
Speaker 7 (08:49):
But I think Sirianni, you know, is letting roseman or
I'm sorry, Kellen Moore do his thing and he is
not as involved, which I think gets good. Here's one
thing I will say, and I'm gonna I'm not like,
I'm not a knick Sirianni fan.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
I'm not a nick Sirianni hater. It is what it is.
Speaker 7 (09:10):
I'm not pulling for you know. I don't pull a
forward and pull against him like he is what he is.
I do think though, you have to give him credit
so far he has proven to be at least so far,
he looks like a good coach. They had won four
games before he got there that year, and he quickly
(09:32):
leads him to a nine and eight record. Then the
Super Bowl appearance and what were they three points away
from winning that and then last year, obviously they still
at least made the playoffs and won eleven games. And
so I believe that's why they didn't fire him, largely
because his track record was, Hey, he turned the team around,
(09:54):
he got it going in the right place. And I
do think, Look, I get Jalen having legitimate concent turns,
but Jalen also has to be honest, and he's smart
enough to recognize this.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
I'd imagine he has his.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Whole career turned around under Nick Sirianni. He went from
being a quarterback that many people thought was a career
backup if that, like a guy that couldn't throw well
enough to play in the NFL consistently, to being an
(10:31):
MVP candidate and playing great in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
So I do think, and I hope, and I think
he's mature enough.
Speaker 7 (10:39):
Jalen hurts, so also look in the mirror and recognize
this dude has helped me.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
I might not agree with everything he does. His over the.
Speaker 7 (10:48):
Top personality might get on my nerves, but brother has
helped me and I've flourished under him. So I just
think that's that's the mature way you look at and
if they do that, if Sirianni indeed takes a step back,
and if Jalen looks in the miracause Jalen got to
become you talk about in an article too, Martin, a
(11:10):
better leader, more vocal, sometimes confront guys. You know, it
seems like he he clearly is a solid, high character guy,
but he does seem to not want to kind of
confront or you know, like he seems more like the
lead by example type. Y'all just follow me. I'm gonna
(11:31):
do the right thing and will be good. And I'm
in high school in college where he's very good, and
his teammates, certainly in college, were very good.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
That might be fine.
Speaker 7 (11:41):
You know, they're better than their competition for the most part.
But now in the pros, he's gonna have to stretch
himself too. And so if they do that, I do
think they move past it. Martin, because the fact that
this article, why did this article just come out?
Speaker 1 (11:57):
I mean, we were waiting for this right a few
weeks after this.
Speaker 5 (12:00):
If this was the NBA, we would have had this
ass Tampa scored the last touchdown and talk with the.
Speaker 7 (12:08):
Maybe because the people that talked did not want to
give up the information.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Why because it wasn't done.
Speaker 7 (12:17):
They didn't know that they were ever gonna get through
the relationship issues the people. I believe they talked to
people in the Eagles organization. I mean that's what they said.
And I think at the time, like months ago, when
they're still wondering, man, are is any are we gonna survive?
This is Serianity gonna survive this, that they kept their
(12:39):
mouths shut. And I believe now they were willing to
talk about it Martin.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
This is my opinion, because they moved past it.
Speaker 7 (12:50):
You know, if you were in a if you're in
a relationship and you went through a tough time, you're
more willing to talk about it once you get through
it and you've over come it than you are in
that moment. And I think that was the issue, and
that's why this thing just come out. We all been
wondering what the heck went wrong last year and it
(13:10):
just comes out now.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
I think that's.
Speaker 7 (13:12):
Because the people that talked feel like we got through it,
so now you know we could share it.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
I mean, you put it behind, You're on something there.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
But I think that the premise to your point that
I think you skipped over, maybe conveniently, maybe accidentally. Is
that's when you have a good relationship to start with, right,
then you get into a rough patch.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
And then you could come on on the other side.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
If you're ambivalent about each other beforehand, and then all
of a sudden you have all these negative moments, it
takes a lot more than just you know, hey, we're
gonna work on this to get.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Back to where you can.
Speaker 7 (13:44):
Even find that they were ambivalent beforehand. They went to
the super Bowl and Jalen became a star. Yeah, but
that's nearly three hundred million dollars because it's the way
Sirianni was coaching the team.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
Yeah, he's also telling Sirianni to quit doing the fly
Eagles Fly and all this stuff in the midst of
all of that, right.
Speaker 7 (14:02):
So some of that, you know, I mean, again, they're
completely different person out.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
As I think.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
I think that's the real rub here is that they're
very different people. But you can be an odd couple
and have success. Hey, all right, it is the that's
what he was working on for that seven minutes he
was missed.
Speaker 7 (14:18):
There you go, there you go, all right, eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox, Will the Eagles move past
this relationship issues with Nick Sirianni, the head coach and
Jalen Hurst, the star quarterback.

through this bumping the road? Or is this a problem
going forward that will ultimately doom this team and probably
(16:10):
Nick Sirianni while they're at.
Speaker 5 (16:12):
It, your thoughts, Let's go ahead kick it over to
the collars, Tim and Atlanta. You're on the a couple
of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
What you got my pant? What up?
Speaker 3 (16:22):
How you doing?
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Man?
Speaker 9 (16:24):
Great?
Speaker 6 (16:24):
Great?
Speaker 1 (16:25):
I think Martin Martin? Did you Alpha?
Speaker 6 (16:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (16:27):
I was gonna let y'all have it, though, No, we
was gonna take it. You ain't had no choice. Respect
your roote took it.
Speaker 9 (16:39):
No, man already.
Speaker 7 (16:42):
Yeah, everybody makes a mistake here every now and then.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Talking to two of them when you're young.
Speaker 9 (16:52):
You know, that's just less over hurt feelings. You know, you.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Know what now took this girl and at some point.
Speaker 7 (17:01):
Oh you know, you know that that goes without saying.
Speaker 9 (17:05):
But you know she couldn't she knows she couldn't resist that.
You know, there's waves in the haircut. But I think
I think it has to work out for Soriano because
Jay Hurts is the franchise quarterback. You know, Killen Moore,
(17:26):
you know, has aspirations when day've been a head coach,
so right, uh, you know he you can just believe
he knows that killing Moore and I wouldn't believe. I
wouldn't doubt if uh GM was Howie Rosen, you know,
he's looking at Kellen Moore too, So you know, Keller
Moore kind of auditionally maybe for a head coaching spot
if this being didn't work out with Soriana. So well, look,
(17:48):
that's work.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
They thought about.
Speaker 7 (17:50):
They talked about Suld, They go after Belichick in the
off season. Not only is he available, but Mike Vrabel's
out there. And then your point, Kellen Moore is a
guy that people have looked at as a future head coach.
So yeah, I mean, SERI, there is no doubt about it.
Nick Sirianni is absolutely on the hot seat. And I
don't think just getting them to the playoffs is gonna
(18:12):
do it, Martin. Like even when they were ten and one,
something wasn't right, yo, you know what I mean, you
could see it and they talked about it. And so
I think they're gonna have to have a nice little
playoff run. I'm not saying they have to get to
the super Bowl, but they need to have a dec
a good year, and a nice little playoff run, probably
to save his jobs.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
I tend to agree there. Let's do what Marty in
Kentucky thinks. You're on the A couple on Fox Sports Radio.
What's up Marty?
Speaker 7 (18:38):
What's up?
Speaker 5 (18:38):
Hill?
Speaker 6 (18:38):
How y'all doing? Like? What up?
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Marty?
Speaker 3 (18:40):
Were good?
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Man?
Speaker 7 (18:42):
Man?
Speaker 10 (18:43):
I really felt like this while I was watching the
season list. They were living in one gar kinan one
and right before they started losing, they just barely pulled
off the win against the Buffalo, And it was right
before Buffalo started.
Speaker 6 (18:57):
Winning, and.
Speaker 10 (19:00):
Arianni really rode hurt. I mean, he wrote him all
the way to the end, and I felt like after
that game he forgot that he had a trio of
running backs that had DeAndre Swift, Bustin Scott in its
game and it's game well, he had two ride outs
in Smith and Brown that could be ones on most teams,
and Golder at tight end who solid like it just
(19:22):
he just started riding hurts constantly and Hurts got banged up,
and I think there's hard feelings there. I think he
feels like he's going to be banged up every season.
Is if they keep going this route.
Speaker 7 (19:36):
No, that's fair, that's fair and that sure. And obviously
they brought in Saquin, so you think that they're going
to take some of that off of him. But you know, Mark,
I think one of the interesting things is are they
going to do the touch push this year that or
at least do it with him. I kind of felt
like maybe that was where Shiri Yanni was like, no, no, no,
(19:57):
do it again, do it again, do it again?
Speaker 5 (20:00):
And the offensive coordinator Brian Johnson was like, hey, you
know we do have running backs that game that Marty
was talking about. Remember it was a driving rainstorm that game.
So he's like, I don't want to I get it
one hundred percent. I think so too. The last thing
I'll say on it is Kellen Moore is supposed to
be coming in here and being like the bridge that
between the gap of Sirianni and Hertz the reported gap.
(20:24):
Are we sure that Kellen Moore is the right person
to be doing this. I'm not saying he's not, but
I know this is true. When he left Dallas the
year after Dallas had one of the best offenses in
the league. I believe led the league is scoring and
Dak Prescott was second in MVP votes. She goes to
Los Angeles and I'm not saying it's all Moore's fault,
but didn't exactly jump off the page with Keenan Allen,
(20:47):
Mike Williams and Justin Herbert out there as his three
main weapons.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Just something to think about. Nah, I fear.
Speaker 7 (20:54):
I mean he there's no doubt about it. He disappointed
in LA with the Charger. I mean Justin Herbert, like
you said, had his worst year. And so yeah, Kellen Moore,
That's why I say, you know, a few years ago
he was the hotness. I don't know that he's the
hotness now. He's still viewed as Okay, he can be
in OC but I do think he's lost a little shine.
(21:17):
But he could quickly get it back if they play
well this season. And you know, look we're talking about
the Toush push. They could easily do that with say
Kwan Barkley or a backup running back, like fullback or something,
because it's not like everybody in the building doesn't know
it's coming, right, Sure, they not fooling anybody. So why
(21:37):
put your quarterback at risk? Just put in a backup
running back. Because Barkley's injury prone too. We know that,
so I don't know that i'd use him either, but
put it in a running back or something.
Speaker 5 (21:48):
Kansas City has not run a quarterback sneak with Patrick
Wahns in like five years.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Is always a backup tight end. Yep, yep, yep. So
all right, Seth Joiners around the corner.
Speaker 7 (21:57):

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Seth.
Speaker 6 (22:42):
What up, brother Chris? How you doing? Man?
Speaker 1 (22:45):
We are great.
Speaker 7 (22:46):
I know when you saw this article today on ESPN
dot com you probably said, you know what, I'm probably gonna.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Get some calls today from some.
Speaker 6 (22:53):
People to be honest, To be honest with you, man,
I've been golfing all day, so I haven't seen articles,
so fill me all right.
Speaker 7 (23:00):
Well, look it was an article, a detailed article on
ESPN dot com basically saying that the reason everything fell
apart last year and really even before they started losing
wasn't quite right was the relationship between Jalen Hurts and
Nick Sirianni is fractured and for some of the reason,
(23:24):
and quickly Sirianni was two hands on last year and
didn't let Brian Johnson, you know, do some of the
things that he and Hurts wanted them to do, and
just got too involved and in there's some personality conflicts.
You obviously know how flamboyant, for lack of a better term,
(23:45):
Sirianni is and Jalen is a little more obviously reserved.
So basically they just saying the relationship was very strained
and that was a big reason for the problems last year.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
What are your thoughts on that?
Speaker 7 (23:59):
Did you know there were issues even while this was
going on? Does it surprise you or are you like, yeah,
that that sounds about right.
Speaker 6 (24:08):
Oh, you know, there's been some talks in Philly, you know,
for the last couple of weeks, you know, to that effect.
So the article really isn't that much of a surprise
to me. You know, I could I could see where,
you know, Jalen might feel some type of way if
these reports are true. You know, and at the end
of the day, you know, Nick Sirianni is the head coach,
(24:31):
and you know he has the authority in the right,
you know, to take over the offense and you know,
run run the team the way he choose to run
the team. That being that being said, you know, a
lot of heat Brian Johnson took last year, maybe unjustly,
you know, levied upon him, and he is Jalen Hurtson's guy,
(24:54):
So then you can understand why Jalen might have felt
the way that he felt in the situation got continuous
as it got you know, listen, this team got the
ten and one last year before it all unraveled, you know,
after they lost to San Francisco and then they lost
the last six games of the year in the first
playoff game. They would never write all season long, right,
(25:14):
So you know, maybe maybe this you know, and people
people are like, well, oh, they are ten and one,
But you know, sometimes the way that you win games
is very indicative of you know, what the rest of
the year is going to look like. And they never
looked right offensively or defensively all year. You know, they
eked out some games, they won some games by the
skin of their teeth. You know, they had to find
(25:35):
ways to win games. And I think when that's the case,
that's a very telling sign. And you know, when it
all came apart and the odds caught up with them
last year, it just wasn't a good look. And I
think that that's why you're seeing, you know, a guy
like Keller Moore come in and have complete control of
the offense. Because the conversation had to happen, you know,
between Jeffrey Lawyer and Howri Roseman about whether you bring
(25:58):
Nick Sirianni back. But when the guy has thirty four,
thirty four and seventeen, it's kind of hard to justify.
And then to the playoffs three years in a row
and the Super Bowl lost the Super Bowl? How do
you justify moving on from a guy like that? So
everybody else's escape goal. Matt Patrician is gone, Sean de
Size is gone, you know, Brian Johnson's gone. So you know,
(26:19):
now we're in a year where you know, it's a
it's a look and see for Nick Sirianni. But listen,
Ella Moore's not taking that job unless he has full autonomy.
Big Fangio ain't taken that job unless he has full autonomy.
So we'll see, you know, where it all goes and
how it all plays out.
Speaker 5 (26:34):
Now, Seth Martin wise here, I know you didn't you said,
didn't read the article yet, but I saw something that
popped out of this and it really kind of jumped
off the pay street. After the New York Giants game,
you know, the season ended shortly after Wink Martindale had
his kind of saga leaving the New York Giants. After
Week eighteen, Jalen Hurts called him up and basically asked,
(26:57):
you know, kind.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Of how were you able to you know what for
the holes.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
In Philadelphia's protection and how New York tried the game
plan him says the article, what do you make of
a quarterback calling up an opposing defensive coordinator? Obviously Martindale
in a position to take the call because he no
longer work for the Giants, but it seems like that's
something that you'd probably be asked to the offensive.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Coordinator, right, No, Listen, I give Jalen Hursts a lot
of credits. One of the greatest regrets that I have
is not spending enough time, you know, on the offensive
side of the ball, asking questions to coordinators, you know,
quarterbacks and the likes, because there's a lot of information
that you can get there, you know, from those people.
(27:38):
And knowing that when Martindale was gone, you know, and
potentially could have been in a situation where he could
have came to Philadelphia. I think it's very smart on
Jalen Hurts's you know, part to actually do that. You know, Listen,
information is king, and what you're trying to do is
you're always trying to get better and you're always trying
to figure out you know how to rem the situation
(28:01):
when things go sideways. So if there's some telling information
that he could have got from Wink Martindale, why would
that be, you know, a bad thing? You know as
a player, As a player, you're trying to decipher as
much information and get as good as better, as much
better as you can, as quick as you can. So
I can understand some people looking at the situation and saying,
(28:23):
you know, why would he do that? But from my standpoint,
I would ask why wouldn't he do that? Because if
I could do it all over again, I'd be asking
the quarterback, you know, when we're in this defense, what
are you thinking when you're looking at when when I'm
talking to an offensive coordinator on the other side of
the ball, Okay, you know, how are you trying to
attack us defensively knowing that this is how, this is
(28:44):
what we're trying to accomplish, and this is what we're doing.
I think it's smart, you know. And to be honest
with you, it wasn't just Wink Martindale. Everybody had the
blueprint for how right and in that offense, you know,
so they were just mimicking each other. It was like Okay,
you want to, you want to. They're gonna throw it
(29:05):
on first down. They're gonna come out running on second down.
Once you get him a third and law, you know,
they're gonna throw the ball. And if you come at
him with pressure. They're not trying to. They don't have
sight adjustments and they don't have hot routes. They're trying
to throw the ball deep. They're trying to they're trying
to get big plays. You got jailer who's not one
hundred percent. Okay, he got a free runner coming at him.
(29:26):
They got the corners blocked off where he can't scramble
out of his pocket. And now you're asking him to
make plays, big plays down the field with a guy
in his face right now, and people want to know,
are wondering why you know he played so awkwardly last year,
about so far as to say that when you look
at him, when you look at him statistically, statistically, he
(29:49):
was better than he was than twenty two at the
yards touchdown. Jalen's problem was turning the ball over because
he was under so much pressure at interceptions last year,
when he only had sixteen total interceptions the previous two years. YEP,
so important.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
The magic question.
Speaker 7 (30:09):
Now before you go, we got about a minute and
a half. So look, this team is stacked. I mean
you asked a Kwon Barkley, who I think can have
a Christian McCaffrey type effect on this team. You got
two great receivers that have been there tight end. Defensively,
they strengthened through the draft and free agency. The defensive backfield,
(30:31):
which was a big problem. Like what do you expect
from this team this year? Because if they don't have
these issues, or if they can put them behind them,
you know, these off the field issues, so to speak
of personality conflicts. Man, on paper, they should be right
there near the top of the league.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
What are your thoughts.
Speaker 6 (30:50):
Well, that's the thing about paper. Paper don't play football games.
You know, I am cautious. I'm cautious optimistic about this
football team. I've seen it a thousand times over. When
you know, when you have a stack roster, there's this
great expectation and sometimes you fall woefully short, you know
(31:11):
of those expectations. Listen, it's now only coming upon Kellen
Moore to come up with, you know, to get this
offense in a position where you can use all these
explosive weapons that you have. You know, don't bring Sae
Kwon in here and all you do is throwing the
ball out of the backfield. He's a weapon that can
you know, you can. You can control the flow of
(31:32):
the game by using him in the running game and
using him, you know, out the backfield. You know. Now
that sets up player action, misdirection, bootlegs, all the things
that will help Jalen Hurst be a more efficient quarterback. Okay,
it's in coming upon Vic Fangio to hold these players accountable,
to have them play at a certain level as a group,
(31:54):
you know, so that they can remed the issues that
plagued them last year down the stretch. Okay, when I
say I'm cautiously optimistic, I like what I see. But
until I can see that they come together cohesively as
a unit as a team offensively, defensively and special teams,
and they got har many among the coaching staff, then
(32:16):
you know, I just I'm not gonna predict that they
gonna tear it up, but they all right the possibility
and they got everything to tear it up.
Speaker 7 (32:24):
That's seth join the super Bowl champion. Great stuff, man,
We appreciate you, brother, yes, sir.
Speaker 6 (32:30):
You got it, man aint John yep.
Speaker 7 (32:32):
All right, let's stay in Pennsylvania, Martin. Who's going to
be the starting quarterback for the other team in the state.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
All right, Martin. Here's Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 7 (33:29):
Of the Pittsburgh Steelers talking about his quarterback situation.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Very much as a competition.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
What happens in stadium is weighted heavier than what happens
in a practice setting because it's more game like.
Speaker 7 (33:42):
I'll quickly say, they do I get what he's saying,
and I think that's right. But they have to be
careful because remember Kenny Pickett last year in the preseason,
Kenny Pickett got me thinking, Oh, the Steelers are gonna
be nice, and I knew intellectually.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
It's the preseason man relaxed.
Speaker 7 (34:03):
But he looked so good against the third and fourth
stringers against the UFL players that you know they I
bought in, and so you do have to be careful.
But what do you you know, what do you think
of this race for this competition if you will, between
(34:24):
Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
Speaker 5 (34:26):
I think that every day that Justin I mean every
day that Russell Wilson is unavailable is another feather in
the cap for Justin Fields. Like it's impossible to say,
Like the question that robbed you was asking is he
auditioning for the QB one role this week?
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Of course he is.
Speaker 5 (34:41):
Every single time he gets an opportunity to compete with
the number one starting offense, he's getting that opportunity and
he's gonna be able to take advantage of it. If
as long as Russell Wilson is injured and taking a
slow start to camp, Like like the idea that Russell
Wilson is slated in stone as the Pittsburgh Taylor starter.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
It's simply untrue to me.
Speaker 7 (35:05):
It does feel though, And obviously, I mean, he could
remain hurt. I know he's supposed to be, you know,
doing full stuff now or getting close to it at least,
So yeah, if he gets hurt or remains hurt, of
course he's not the start.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
But it does seem like they.
Speaker 7 (35:23):
Want to give him the first shot, assuming he's one
hundred percent. Would you agree with that? Because I mean,
if they came in and I get it, Russ was
first on the depth chart, but if they came in
kind of like, look y'all gonna battle, why wouldn't Justin
Fields be number one?
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Right now? Because I think, honestly, it has a lot
to do with the order of operations.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
They got Russ first, and there's no sense now in
naming the starter on August seventh, right, like, whoever's the starter?
Speaker 6 (35:54):
Now?
Speaker 5 (35:54):
It could be like it's really immaterial until we see
Week one game one, who's undersnapped with fourteen fifty seven
left on the clock in the first quarter after the kickoff, right,
that's really what that's really what matters here, and I
think Mike Tomlin is just trying to avoid a story
or avoid alienating one of the two guys at this
(36:15):
moment because there's no need to.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
No that makes sense.
Speaker 7 (36:19):
And like I've said, ideally, and I like Russ, but
ideally it would be Justin Fields because he could be
your quarterback of the future. And obviously they are the
reports now that they are going to get Brandon Ayuk.
It's not confirmed, but things seem to be pointed in
that direction. And I'll tell you what, Martin, this is
(36:43):
a litmus test. I mean about as much of a
litmus test as there could ever be for.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
These two quarterbacks, both of them.
Speaker 7 (36:52):
Oh yeah, If Russell Wilson cannot excel with George Pickens
and Brandon Ayuk at receiver and Pat Prior moved at
tight end and Najie Harris and Jalen in the backfield
and then a good, very good defense Arthur Blank called
(37:12):
in the play.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
If he can't succeed with that, he's truly washed.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Jay.
Speaker 7 (37:17):
If Justin Fields can't succeed with that, and I'm not
saying you're gonna be all pro, but if you can't
succeed and play high level quarterback. With that, then you
the fields is a career backup, and it'd be questions
as how long that career will last.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
That's what I think.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
I mean, I think you're absolutely right with this offense
and this defense and this organizational structure above average quarterback places.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
You get it done right.
Speaker 7 (37:46):
Because they made the playoffs three of the last four
years with bad quarterback plays exactly.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Oh, you can get somebody.
Speaker 7 (37:52):
I mean, if they had like a top seven quarterback
coming in here, some people might be picking them to
challenge Kansas City for the AFC. All right, we got
two hours left, y'all know what to do.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Lock it.
