Woodson joining us at the bottom of the hour, as
he does every Monday during the NFL season.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
So that should be a lot of fun. Keep it
lot for that, but.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
We're gonna you know, the theme of the day's show,
Robbed is some degree is coaches right? It is Black Monday,
where a lot of coaches lose their jobs. One who
hasn't and of course is in all the headlines is
the legendary Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
And you know, Belichick was asked about today.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
He spoke about, you know, his job security, and obviously
he's not the most loquacious guy when it comes to speaking.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
To the media, but here's what he's said about that.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
I'm in a contract do what I always do, which is,
you know, every day I come in work as hard
as I can to help the team in whatever way
I can. Wondering if you'd get any serious thoughts or
relinquishing the personnel, maybe some of the draft responsibilities. Look,
I'm for whatever. You know, collectively, we decide as an
organization it's the best thing to help our football team.
(02:23):
I have multiple roles in that, and I rely on
a lot of people to help me in those those responsibilities.
If somebody's got out of the final say I have
I rely on a lot of other people to help,
and you know, whatever that process is, you know, I'm
only part of it.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
All right, Rob, So what what's your take on this?
Speaker 1 (02:39):
You think this should be Belichick's or he should be
done with the Patriots, whether it's them or him making
the move.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
Well, this guy, Bill Belichick sounded like a guy who's
willing to change. And if he's willing to change, Chris
and I'm the Patriots, I would keep him. If he's
gonna coach and he's gonna like, let us buy the
groceries and bring in a GM and relinquish some things
(03:10):
and maybe you know, have a traditional offensive coordinator and whatnot.
I'm way open if this guy was it's my way
or the highway. We've been doing it this way forever.
We won six super Bowls. I'm not changing this late
in the game. No, I'm not doing it. Then I
don't want them. If I'm the Patriots. Do I want
(03:31):
the all time winning his coach to be a Patriots coach?
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Sure? I do.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Do I want him to go and have that celebration elsewhere? No,
I don't. But he has to be willing to bend.
It's not the coaching stuff Chris that gets him in trouble.
It's the other stuff that I believe he can coach.
We know that.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Well, remember he is gonna have you know, and be
in charge of his staff.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
No, I get that, but as not being the GM though,
there are other things you have to give up, okay
to GM, and this is it not at the facto GM.
Chris put somebody in there, and Bill's still making a
decision if you go get a real GM that said, Bill,
let's we work together. We want you to get the record,
Let's turn his team around, you know what I mean.
(04:16):
And he's willing to do that, Christ and I'm willing
to work with Bill Belichick. You could go ahead and say,
well we're gonna start over and get another coach or whatever.
You remember the Patriots, and I remember the Patriots before
Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.
Speaker 6 (04:29):
A lot of people don't remember that. They were god awful.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
It ain't automatic that you make a change and you're
gonna be winning again. It ain't just ask There are
twenty teams in the NFL who you could may changes,
Chris and still making changes.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
That's all now, I hear you.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
And there was a point where I agree with you
that if he gives up the GM.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
Dude, you did say that. I remember that, Yeah, that.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
He you know, it'd be fine with him coach. Hey, look,
he's arguably to go. I mean, really, I'm not. I
would never try to take away his accomplishments, you know,
unless something comes out about where just it was egregious
cheating going on throughout you know what I mean, that dynasty.
And I'm not gonna even though I feel like if
(05:18):
I had to choose Brady or Belichick's most responsible, I
choose Brady.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
But give Belichick a ton of credit.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
I still respect those six championships, and no one Rob wins.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Super Bowls without great players.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
So I'm not, you know, trying to diminish Belichick's accomplishments,
because they're legendary to say the least. But Rob, it
is a fact that he hasn't had really hard, just
really any success without Tom Brady, and I don't think
it's coming in New England, even as just a coach.
(05:54):
I agree, I'd rather have him just coach than be both.
But I'm ready to move on if I'm New England,
I just really am. I think they need a fresh start.
I think if they get a young I don't want
him with a young quarterback, Like if they use this
draft pick to take Drake made Jaylen Daniels. I don't
see Chase, you know, Williams falling, Caleb Williams falling. But
(06:20):
if he somehow did, I don't want Belichick being the
control of that. And obviously he did a great job
with Brady. He did help make Brady, you know, become
what he did, there's no in answer but about it.
But I think the way he handled Mac Jones, Rober
there's a lot of it's on Mac just not being
that good.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
No, but he didn't do a good job that no
offensive coordinators and the Matt Patricia. There's a lot of stuff, Chris,
but that's where you got a real amend. And that's
what I'm saying, Like he sounds contrite, don't would you
say that? I?
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Well, he certainly sounded more contrite than I expected.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
I'm shocked.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
But I also think, yeah, I also think Rob that
I'm not so certain. It wasn't a definitive look for
me to And maybe some of it's the way he
says it right. He doesn't really say things definitively like that.
At least with the media. But I'm not so sure
Rob that he gave a definitive statement on Hey, if
(07:16):
it means me not being the GM and just coaching,
I'm cool with that. Like, I just think, you know,
he was he talked around, He talked a lot. We
didn't even hear the whole thing he talked about, Hey,
we all have our different roles. I get input from
other guys, and there's a lot of people involved in it.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
He said, somebody has to have the final word.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
You know, if we all, if we all decide, you
know that it, you know, but go a different way.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
I that was, you know what I mean. I think
he left a lot of wiggle rooms.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Yeah, but he's not gonna say, I'm just saying, Christ
you've been in a building for twenty some odd years,
you had a lot of success and all that, So
you're not just gonna say, oh, yeah, whatever they decide,
I'm gonna go along with it. It's just that's not
gonna come out of his mouth. I mean, that's kind
of what he said. But I don't believe. I don't
(08:07):
think he's eddy definitively enough. And you may be right,
Like maybe you don't come out there, you know what
I mean, and they say like, oh yeah, whatever they decide,
I'm just along for the ride.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
This guy's gonna go around there. He kind of was
saying that, if you listen to the old thing, He
kind of was saying that.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
And look, Mike Florio had an interesting take Rob on
Pro Football Talk, which I agree with on this one.
Florio was like, Belichick kind of made it clear. I
am not like you guys gonna have to fire me.
I'm not stepping down.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
I'm not.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
And here's the other thing, though, Rob, I'm not. Now
you didn't say these words out of his mouth, but
you can, you know. But he not agreeing to a trade, right,
I'm not going along with a trade.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
And here's the thing. Why why would he or should he?
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Because if let's say, hypothetically, they want to trade him
to the Chargers, but they're.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Gonna picks and return, So why would Belichick.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Go to a Chargers team that's depleted of some objects?
Speaker 3 (09:07):
You know what I mean? So he is smart.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
I don't know if he's being this uh, you know,
I don't know what his motives are, but it looks
like possibly he's like, look, I'm you're gonna have to
fire me, and he knows right. You and I have
talked about, Man, how do you fire Bill Belichick? You know,
(09:30):
six championships? But he may just be like, they know
how bad that would look, They know how uncomfortable that
would be.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
They know I've been the only essentially.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
The only success they've had as a franchise as a
head coach.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Like, are they really gonna do that? I'm not.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
I'm not gonna make it easy on you. I'm not
cooperating in the trade. So if you if you're gonna
fire me, then fire me. I mean there may be
some of that there too. I don't know, but I
am at this point I Rob and it's nothing against
his personality or anything. I just think it's time. I
think it's really time to move on. I might, I'm I'm,
(10:11):
I'm I'm.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Wavering on my take about never firing Bill Belichick.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
IM not to think it's not. I don't think it's
gonna get any better. The defensive, You're right, the defense
gonna be great. But unless he and maybe Rob and
I know this guy is not a good head coach.
But if you if Josh McDaniels was the offensive coordinator,
maybe he's the one that got him to the playoffs
or you know, helped him get to the playoffs with
(10:37):
Mac Jones.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
As a rookie. He obviously was there for Brady.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
Yeah, I don't want If I'm the Patriots, I don't
want him as head coach, I don't.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Want no, no, no no. He Josh McDaniels would be
the OC and Belichick would be the head coach. I'm
just saying Bill O'Brien hasn't worked obviously. I mean the
other guys he brought in there, we.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Was just it was crazy.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
I just think unless if he's honestly willing to work
with you.
Speaker 6 (11:08):
And be coach and give up those other duties.
Speaker 5 (11:11):
And we've seen that happen Chris with some coaches where
they finally decide, Okay, I'm not gonna have both roles,
you know what I mean. I can't remember. There's a
couple of coaches who who I gave up, who gave
up the GM Remember it's just too much work.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
Well here's the other thing, though, Rob.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Do you practically speaking, I mean, Bill Belichick is larger
than life in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Is is it.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Even possible for someone to really come in and have
the authority over Bill Belichick. Are people in the building
gonna still look to Belichick as kind of the guy I.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
Think the guy could have depending on who you hire.
You don't have to hire a kid Chris, somebody with
some credibility, right, guy with credibility. And then the thing
that he would have I'm working in his favor is
that things haven't been great in New England the last
couple of years. Like like, okay, it ain't like you're
(12:09):
coming in and Bill just won three Super Bowls in
a row.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
Ain't nobody listening to you.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Right right, right right?
Speaker 6 (12:16):
Things have been bad, things have been bad.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
This is really it's gonna be interesting. It is really
going to be interesting to see how because I just right,
I just I could be wrong. I just don't see
it getting better under Belichick. I think just start fresh
with everybody. If you draft a quarterback, have a young
coach that you think, at least in theory, will be
with him, you know, in OC and the head coach
(12:43):
will be with him for the next five, seven, ten years,
whatever it might be, you know.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
At least in theory, because Belichick.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Two, even if you get a young quarterback, Rob I
mean how much long is Belichick on the coach until
he gets the record? Well, yeah, I mean seventy he will.
He'll be seventy two in April, and so you know it.
It's a tough decision. It's going to be interesting and
(13:10):
I and I'm gonna say this finally.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Before we go route.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
If I'm Belichick and I get it, he's comfortable in
New England.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
It's where he's become what he had is.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
But if he has designs on winning another Super Bowl,
which I'm sure he does, I would love to go
somewhere else that's you know, that's got the quarterback we
talked about the Chargers or you know, obviously wouldn't get
traded to the Bills.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
But if he got fired, may you know, if I'm.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
The Bills and we get beat in the playoffs, I'm
looking at him.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
So I don't know. It's gonna be interesting to see
how this plays out.
Speaker 1 (13:45):

Speaker 1 (15:55):
On h Bill Belichick? Should he be back in New England?
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Are not? Next season?
Speaker 6 (16:02):
And Washington's defense has more holes than the golf course.
Speaker 9 (16:05):
My god, it's fourteen to three I think we're two
of the runs, like I know, but score here, they
score here, they're back in the game.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
But my god, you can't give a forty yard run
and they're doing it like you said, they're just this
is what you know. I mean, Michigan is supposed to
be able to overpowerment so far.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
But they're going.
Speaker 5 (16:25):
But they're going forty yards on top, right, that's what
I'm saying. Right, you got forty forty yards on top.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
I'm gonna check the numbers, but the stats they're rushing
yards on the ground must be out of this world already, yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
Because they haven't rushed it that many times and they
got over one hundred yards probably don't.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
They Oh, they're over I think they're over right.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
They probably got one hundred yards on ten carries right now?
Speaker 3 (16:48):
It's okay, here it is what is it one hundred?
What is it? One hundred and fifteen yards? Eight? That's
what I said.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
I I said ten one hundred yards doing ten, so
I would I was close.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Yeah, yeah, it's fourteen and a half yards of carry. Rap.
They might like a team for the Divine eight chans
right now?
Speaker 5 (17:08):
All right, all right, what you got, let's go to
Thomas and Victorville.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Thomas?
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Gentlemen, how are you?
Speaker 10 (17:17):
It's nice to hear it from you of the new year.
Speaker 6 (17:19):
No doubt you too, buddy too.
Speaker 10 (17:21):
Man. Okay, listen, if you guys are up for it,
next time the boys I get together for a poker game.
You guys are fitting just fine. Just bring your wallet.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
That's why are you? Where are you calling from?
Speaker 6 (17:30):
Where you're Victorville, California?
Speaker 10 (17:33):
Oh it's a wonderful place to try next time.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
I'm out there.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
Yeah right, Chris won't even come to Los Angeles Victorville,
all right?
Speaker 3 (17:40):
As Victory is that southern cal It's okay, No, it's
a no cow.
Speaker 10 (17:44):
It's there or on the way to Vaker.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
So you know, basically, I got family. I got family.
See you as a mark.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
He's like, Rob, come on any time. Just bring your wallet.
I listen to Shackle City, bring your.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Wallet, right, all right?
Speaker 10 (18:02):
What you got listen? So with Belichick, you know you
gotta you gotta say that the only one that's making
this difficult is Robert Kraft. I think we can agree.
Robert Kraft, does that any duty to get Bill Belichick
to the record, he's got no duty to go through
this another year and another year, hope, a wishing and praying.
So in that respect of what we're talking about is
(18:22):
what's next for the Patriots, not Bill Belichick. You gotta
make the move because more than anything else, I think
what we've seen since Brady has left is complete institutional failure.
I mean, the emperor has no clothes. And then what
do you guys think about this when you talk about
him transitioning to another team? What's another team getting?
Speaker 3 (18:45):
I mean, let's not.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
Thomas, I hear you, but let's not act like he
hasn't done anything. You can't undress the whole guy's career
and act like he's Pop up bitch is still in
San Antonio? Am I wrong, Chris or I don't know
that I'd hire a prop No, But I'm just saying,
but don't undress him. Act like he has very as saying.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Pop and Belichick art their career arcs are the same.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Yeah, but I agree with you right.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Here's what I'd say to Thomas' question, you're certainly getting
an incredible defensive mind.
Speaker 6 (19:27):
Is just another run that just happened? Or is that
a replug.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
They're treating Washington like there's no treats the Big ten
you used to treat.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
I used to run of Chris. God, that was two
hundred yards rushing in about three minutes. But there's there's
no there's nothing.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
I don't even get it, like like this is I've
never seen anything like it?
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Like twelve Is that another forty yard run?
Speaker 6 (19:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (19:52):
It might have been longer than I swear.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
When I looked up, I thought that was a replay
from earlier because I was like that, No, that can
That's how.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Here's what I would say. You get with Belichick and
I've Rob. You know, I've been sounding the alarm that
he hadn't done anything without Brady as long as anybody.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
But you get a great defensive mind and Rob.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
That's why I like the Chargers because you already have
the quarterback whoever the offensive coordinator would be let him
Belichick and Rob. I do think Belichick going to another
organization wouldn't want or feel like he has to have
as much power. He just a head coach, and you
let the offensive coordinator handle your quarterback if it's Justin
(20:39):
Herbert or another great quarterback somewhere else, and then Belichick
would make that defense one of the best in the league.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
That's what I think.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
You're getting robed with Belichick, right, But people are respect
of the players at this point. He hasn't done anything,
and I just I mean, I coach taking a bath
because Brady's you know, with so successful Hampa and he's
been so struggled so much.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
But no, I'm not gonna take away his accomplished.
Speaker 6 (21:05):
That's what I'm saying. You can't act like he didn't
do anything.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Is that?
Speaker 2 (21:10):
J R?
Speaker 6 (21:11):
Jr? And Indianapolis you're in the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
What's up?
Speaker 9 (21:15):
Jr?
Speaker 10 (21:16):
Hey? What's up? Fellas?
Speaker 3 (21:17):
How y'all doing doing good? How are you?
Speaker 10 (21:20):
I'm doing well? Can I pose this question real quick?
If Belichick left, when Brady left and Brady stayed and
Belichick went to Tampa Bay, do.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
They still win?
Speaker 3 (21:32):
They mean it?
Speaker 10 (21:33):
Who Tampa Bay? Because all you needed was a quarterback?
Speaker 3 (21:38):
You mean if Belichick went there with Brady?
Speaker 10 (21:41):
No, No, just Belichick because we're kind of taking some
of the paraway.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Nah. I mean, I think they had a great defense,
and I don't think Jameis Winston was gone.
Speaker 5 (21:50):
Well, they needed a quarterback that didn't thro thirty in
a CENTERD quarterback?
Speaker 3 (21:58):
What was that would have been gone?
Speaker 10 (22:01):
He ain't gonna have Jamis anyway because he wouldn't go.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
No, I don't think they would have won. I don't.
I don't think they would have won.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
And let me say this, I don't think I think
New England was done. I mean Brady was at a
point where I think he needed great weapons and Belichick
wouldn't give him weapons. So I don't think they were
gonna keep winning in New England either. I think they
would have won, you know, eleven games, ten games, made
the playoffs and stuff. But as long as Belichick was
(22:29):
gonna be stubborn and not give him great weapons, I
don't think Brady would have They would have won a
super Bowl, you know, with Brady in New England either
after you know, twenty eighteen.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
All right, it's the Eye couple, Chris and Rod.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
We got our mayor Rod Woodson coming up in a
moment beforest.

Our next g that's Hall of Fame defensive back, one
of the absolute best ever.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Do it now.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Fox Sports Radio NFL analysts are Man Rod Woodson Rod,
what's up?
Speaker 10 (23:11):
Man? What's up? My brothers from another mother.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
I'm guessing you must be excited at Big ten getting
a little payback so far at least.
Speaker 10 (23:20):
Yeah, I'm surprised that they're they're they're being that physical
with the man. They can't handle it. But that's big
Ken football. If you can't stop the line, man, you're
gonna get it all night long.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
Cable never seeing something.
Speaker 10 (23:36):
Like It's like they've never even seen what a wing?
You know what?
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Right?
Speaker 10 (23:43):
Right?
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Oh my god?
Speaker 1 (23:46):
All right, let's go to the NFL. Obviously, the playoffs
are set us start. I mean, Philadelphia, they were my
preseason Super Bowl pick.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
I'm I'm out on them. I thought yesterday they looked
like a.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Team that just doesn't believe in themselves and their coach
teams whatever it might be.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
Where are you at on the like, is how if
you were on that staff? Like, is there anything that
can be said done to turn them around? I mean
barring you know, like a mirror.
Speaker 10 (24:16):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
I don't.
Speaker 10 (24:17):
I don't know if you can get it back this year. Right,
It's just, you know, sometimes it's just that feel, and
you've kind of seen it the whole year long, right,
we all kind of saw it throughout the year that
we kept I think that you know, the vast majority
of everybody was saying, they don't look like the same team.
They just don't feel like the same team. And we'll
watch them play, and their style of play weekend and
(24:38):
week out just didn't par back what they were doing
last year. And I don't think you can get it back.
I don't think you can have a row Ross Peach.
I don't think you can have a team on week
you know, a meeting and that gets it back. You know.
I think they are who they are this year. I
know there you know it's been neal, some rumor, meal,
some riffs in the locker room, and when you start
(24:59):
getting those rooms, man, there's some truth to it somewhere, right.
I mean the places that don't have any you don't
hear any so you know, some of those roomormeos. It
comes about for a reason and unfortunate for them. But
I don't think I don't think there's They're not that
team this year, the same team. I think the forty
(25:19):
nine Ers are by far the best team UH in
the NFC, UH and and the.
Speaker 6 (25:26):
But the Ravens are the best team in the league.
Would you say that?
Speaker 3 (25:29):
I think that.
Speaker 10 (25:30):
I think that I've been saying this for Remember I've
been saying this for how long? For several weeks that
the Ravens is one of those, if not the deepest
team in the National Football League, from the first player
Lamar Jackson, to the fifty third player on the active roster,
Like I mean, it's I just really believe it. And
they've shown, you know, obviously this past week they didn't
(25:50):
play anybody, and uh they got beat by the Steelers,
and probably the only team that has their numbers it
is the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
If you look at the let me, I'm sorry, go ahead,
Rob Well.
Speaker 10 (26:03):
I understanding. If you just look at the last I
don't know how many games for them, you know, they
they've beaten everybody else. They struggle with the Steelers for
whatever odd reason.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Rob and I both picked it sounds like you may
have to the Ravens to get to the Super Bowl,
And I would pick them.
Speaker 6 (26:20):
We picked them before the season started, both of us.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
And I would pick them to win this game.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Ride but I'm guessing they rather face Houston than Cleveland,
like you know that AFC North, you know what I mean,
Like and Flacco, who knows if you'll still have magic
at that point, but just that defense and the physical
nature of the division, and they got more offense than
(26:46):
the Steelers, So I just think that's that would be
a tough matchup.
Speaker 10 (26:50):
I think, yeah, I think I think Houston's a better
matchup because you're playing I mean, first of all, they
played them already this year, so they kind of understand
who they already are. Cleveland they played them too, and Cleveland. Listen,
they understand how tough Cleveland's defense is. They know how
good they are and getting after everybody that yes, they
beat them, I get it, but they still give you issues.
(27:12):
And having Joe Flapple come in and play the way
he has been playing. I don't know if he'll do
that in the postseason or not, but he's done it
before his career, so it's not telling me that he
wouldn't do it. They are a solid football team, you know,
I would think that they would rather play Houston. I
think they have a better shot and which way they
played them in the first time, they have a better
feel for them and they know who they are.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
I want to go back to you brought up San
Francisco as the best team in the NFC. I agree,
But if your Dallas is kind of two part question.
One do you think Dallas is the second best and
that they will meet ultimately in the NFC Championship game?
And if you're a player on the Cowboys, how much
(27:55):
does that forty two ten drubbing earlier in the year,
you know, like, does that weigh into your thinking and
is it make it could be I guess a positive board.
Speaker 10 (28:05):
Nigga, Well, I mean think about this now. I mean
every time they you know, they're the way they're playing
away from Dallas, they don't play the best football. They
playing really good football in Dallas, so you know, playing
at home is completely different. Thy're playing on the road
for them obviously this year, and you know they don't
if they you know, they go on the road and
they have to play San Francisco on the road and
(28:27):
showing what their past experience is this year and the
way they've played on the road, it might be another Throbby.
You just never really know. But with that being said,
they still have a lot of talent, right and I
think they're better offense now than they were when they
played them the first time around. I think, you know,
I think Ceedee Lamb has kind of coming to his
own and you got to hope that that would stay
(28:51):
the case. But with that being said, they're still going
to have to play really a real aggressive defense of
a fast flowing linebacker and Corps one of the the best,
if not the best running back in the National Football League,
and two top receivers, and Auk and Debo. When you know,
when you play them, you don't want to get Debo.
Speaker 6 (29:13):
You don't want to get Deebo. Very nice.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
Let me ask you about getting Josh Allen. I mean,
we know he has talent, but he's also a turnover machine.
We saw it in Miami. If it wasn't for that
pump return, I'm not so sure they win that game
because that turned the game.
Speaker 6 (29:29):
Uh for Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Where are you on Buffalo?
Speaker 6 (29:36):
You know going forward in the playoff run?
Speaker 10 (29:39):
Man, I'm I'm concerned that they can't run the football
and Josh Allen has to throw the ball every single down,
every single series, and the problem he has is that
he wants to have big plays every time he throws
the football. You can in the National Football League. You
(30:01):
have to take what the defense is given. If they're
giving you a three yarder, take the three yarder. They're
giving you a five yarder, take the five yarder. If
they're giving you a six yard or ten yarder, take it.
And Dan takes your shots because then you'll start creeping
up and then you can take a shot. And it's
very similar to what Patain Mahomes did last year. They
weren't making those big touchdown passes, so he was taking
(30:22):
those five They had thirteen play drives, ten play drives,
and then he was taking shots down the field on
them and he would use his feet to get out
of the pocket and get the month schedule first down.
We know that Josh allencan can do that, but he
had to learn to take what the defense has given him.
And if he stays and dress up and he always
wants to take big shots and make big plays. I
(30:43):
don't know how far they're going to postseason.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Do you still think Kansas City's dangerous?
Speaker 10 (30:51):
Uh? You know what, I'm not sure because they just
they don't scare you like they did in years past. Offensively,
I think defensively they played solid all year long. They've
played really good football. I just think offensively they just
don't scare everybody. The people believe they can match them up.
(31:12):
They can stack the box and make it tough for
the running game, for the Kansas City to make homes
throw the football. I just I don't think that they
can go on the road like they could in previous
years and win football games.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
All right, that is our man, the Hall of Favor.
Speaker 10 (31:31):
Rod Woodson is always okay, man, I appreciate your brothers.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Yeah, all right, Jamis Winston a little bit of controversy
down in New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
We'll get to that. Next couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 1 (31:56):
All right, it's the Eye couple, Chris Bruce, Rob Parker
live from the tire Rack dot com studios and Rob,
did you see the Jameis Winston play at the end
of the Saints routed Atlanta forty eight or forty seven
(32:17):
to seventeen.
Speaker 10 (32:18):
That was ugly.
Speaker 6 (32:19):
That was ugly.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Yeah, it really was. I thought it was going to
be a close game. But anyway, Rob, g just give
us an explanation of kind of what went on.
Speaker 11 (32:29):
Sure, so you mentioned it was a blowout win. They're
in the final seconds of the game. The Saints are
at about the one and a half yard line and
Dennis Allen called for the victory formation. Get on the ball,
kneel it. That's the ballgame. According to Jameis Winston, though,
they asked the players in the huddle if they should
get Jamal Williams a touchdown, and they decided to do that.
(32:51):
So it wouldn't have been as bad if they had
just lined up in an I formation again the ball,
but that's what I think they should have instead, though,
he got into the victory formation and handed the ball
off to jam Always for a touchdown, which led to
a big kerfuffle between Arthur smith S.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Buffle.
Speaker 11 (33:06):
I like that and Dennis Allen.
Speaker 6 (33:08):
Is that with marsh Fallows and chocolate?
Speaker 11 (33:10):
Absolutely? And Jameis Winston said the reason why he did
it to fight his coach because it was a quote
team decision.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Look, Rob, I think they should have lined up in
a regular formation. If they decide, hey, we want to
get this touchdown, they should have just lined up regular
and run it in the right way. I'm not gonna
kill James. I don't think it's as bad as some
people are saying it's. But I just now that victory formation.
I don't know if it's gonna be the victory formation anymore,
(33:39):
especially for New Orleans.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
Nah, you know what, I don't even crack up. I
disagree with you.
Speaker 5 (33:45):
I think there is when you do that, people let
their guards down, because you know, nobody wants to get
hurt on meaningless plays at an end of a game.
I think that's where you cannot go. You can't go
against that, like like like you just said, if you
gonna be like, no, we're playing it all the way
and you just line up regular. Okay, that's one thing,
(34:06):
but that's why that's that's why they have the victory
formation and so that people don't get hurt in a
meaningless play at the end. And you can't, like, if
I'm playing them any game that Jamis Winston's in, I'll
never ever let my guard down, Chris in a situation
(34:26):
like that, and guys have gotten hurt. That's why that
that there's that whole situation and then a blowout like that,
What are you doing?
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Well?
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Right? It's not even let your guard down with Jamies.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
I think the thing jamis at least, and it might
be against other teams, but certainly against Atlanta. If he's
ever in the game rob and does the victory formation,
he might get clocked.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
That's what he might. You're risking, That's what I'm saying.
But you don't care.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
But you might do it anyway and then and it
might be It's like being at a block party, Chris
and getting by nine people and nobody saw it like
it could be that.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
But I think it's so the thing is, and I look,
I like Jamis and even the teammates if they are
on board with it, wanting to get you know, Jamal
a touchdown his first touchdown.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
I'm with that.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
Just line up in the regular I don't even look.
I don't think Dennis Allen is a very good coach.
I think they should be getting a new coach anyway,
But it looks like he's gonna keep his job. But
I'm not even mad about him defying that call. I'm
just saying line up in a real formation.
Speaker 6 (35:41):
I got I got issues.
Speaker 5 (35:43):
I got issues if I'm the coach, we sending a
play to end the game and you're doing something else.
I don't agree with that.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
I can't.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
I can't.
Speaker 10 (35:52):
I can't. I can't.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
I can't.
Speaker 6 (35:54):
I can't trust you.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
I can't.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
I can't trust you.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
I would probably feel different if I thought he was
a good coach. I think he's lost this team.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
But I hear you on that. I can't trust you.
But I just think that's what should have happened. He
should have.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Winning the regular formation. They know what's coming. And then
you get the guy in session. Because if you look
at the play before and Rob G, you can chime
in too. It looked like tryan Matthew who returned the
interception the play before. It looked like he wasn't trying
to score. Would you agree with that? Rob and Rob
G like he could have ran into this. He was
(36:33):
kind of waiting for a line.
Speaker 6 (36:36):
But Chris, that hill, that's that happened.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
Which I wouldn't have been mad at him for running
in the end zone either, But I mean, I I
just and I first I thought Dennis Allen kind of
when I just heard about it, but without really looking
at everything that Dennis Allen just kind of threw his
players under the bus. But it seems like they were
gonna admit it any way, Like Jameis Winston wasn't hiding it,
(37:02):
you know, And so I think, you know, Alan just
giving an explanation. I don't think it's as bad as
I thought it was at first. But I do wonder
if he has that locker room. I do wonder if
he because what you just said, Rob, like right now,
a lot of players are siding with Jamis.
Speaker 6 (37:20):
Yeah, I just I couldn't.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
I couldn't. I couldn't roll with I couldn't roll with them.
Speaker 5 (37:24):
In that situation. I really couldn't. I'm I'm being dead serious.
As a head coach. That is such a bad look
on organization. If you're the head coach, Chris, and you
would be at ain't no way, ain't no way you
could be in charge and and your team do what
(37:45):
they just did. I'm sorry and feel good about it. God,
well they just decided, Oh is that what happened?
Speaker 10 (37:50):
No?
Speaker 3 (37:51):
I agree, I think that as the head coach, he's
gotta be feeling.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
Like I said, I I don't think he's a good coach,
but it looks like a sign rob that he has
lost that locker room, you know, because the players.
Speaker 6 (38:07):
Well doing rogue situations like that. It's just a bad look.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
And I and and jamis uh you know, I guess
we'll wait and see how, you know, to fall out
of that. It ain't like he's having some spectacular NFL
career any anyway, if somebody the next the next coach
that comes along, I want that guy, you know what
I mean, like like that's the scary.
Speaker 6 (38:30):
Part of the team.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
I would say guys have done worse, but that you know,
coaches take that serious.
