Speaker 3 (00:50):
Woody Page.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
Is on at the bottom of the hour. Wow, I
can't what a what a legendary figure, Chris. I'm always
told you this story and maybe Woody will remember it.
But when we did uh Cole Pizza and they were
starting the debate thing, Chris, you know that.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Didn't you try it with Woody Page too? I did not.
I tried.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
I tried out before the show even began. Yeah, yeah,
I tried out with Woody Page. No, lie, and Woody
Page said to me after it was over, Chris, he said,
from the people who tried out, you were the best.
That's what he told me. And they asked me and
then they higher Skip Chris. They asked me what I moved?
I was living in Detroit. I swear would you move

(01:36):
back to New York? Blah blah blah all this. You
wouldn't have moved back. No, no, I would have. But
they called to ask, you know what I mean? After
my trial. So that's what's funny with Woody. Maybe he'll
remember it, but uh, I tried that.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Remember when when Cold Pizza started and they had the
first intense segment.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Segment, right, that was the segment? Yeah, so what was
the star? What was first?

Speaker 1 (02:04):
And what he just he became the most compelling personality, right,
Skip was really like serious and what he was you know?

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Right?

Speaker 1 (02:14):
But he was the more at that time, he was
definitely the more popular.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
He was the lead on that show. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
And then remember rib when they went because they changed
the first.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Take and then they made it all the first intent
segment like the whole.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Now obviously shows like first Take and Undisputed and all
that they're all first intent.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
And what they did was, you know, they did the
study groups. They saw that.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yeah, I mean though that's when the ratings were the highest,
when they had the debate segments, and then they would
go down during the other stuff, Chris.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
So they just decided to make it all debate. Right.
They had a consultant there.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
I was sitting next the skip in the meeting and
the guy, you know, the consultant is not supposed to
watch the show, Chris, right, he's just looking at the
numbers and right what it going up and down? So
he's looking at the chart and he says, I'm gonna
tell you. I don't know what you have on, but
every fifteen minutes you should be doing that, because every

(03:19):
fifteen minutes. And you remember that little sounder they used
to have, Chris when it was coming to which I
used to love, the little sounder that was right before
you knew First and ten was coming. He said, whatever
you're doing every fifteen minutes, you should do that. And
I looked at her. I turned the skip, no, Lie,
I looked at him, and I said, First and ten
right that, and then Jamie became the balls and that

(03:43):
was right.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
And it was a good move.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
And I used to be on those other segments, you know,
giveing NBA notes and all.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
That guys, reporters from all over. It was like the
news show. It was the news show, right, But that's
that's what residents.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
And Rob you'll remember this too, because I remember the
first time I ever did first in ten and at
that time it was first and ten. Well maybe it
maybe it was all debate. Actually it was probably all
debate by that point.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
But I did it with Skip and you know, we
talked baseball, talked to everything and college, right, It wasn't
just NFL and NBA like, we talked everything, as you.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Said, and I think even it probably.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Was well I think it was January maybe, so we
talked all the sports though, and now of course it's
peared down to US football and basketball, right, and then
not only just football and basketball, and then you only
got two or three or four topics in each sport,
you know what I mean, I mean out of their
favorite stuff. Yeah, there's no doubt about that, all right.

(04:46):
But Rob, this weekend, you know, the games are on and.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Reggie Miller that was the Denver. Robbed you was at
the Denver.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
That was the Denver game, the Denver Minnesota game right
game four, and Reggie Miller is calling the game, Rob
and uh, he just you know, And they show Anthony
Edwards after Game three Rob and Anthony Edwards says it
was his fault. I didn't play well, I didn't come
out with energy whatever, and I'll take this loss.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
This is on me.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
And Reggie took it for some whatever reason, took it
as an opportunity to really bash Lebron James.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
And here he goes, we've got some veteran status in
our games that a lot of people's Mount Rushmore.

Speaker 6 (05:39):
And point fingers at other Here's a twenty two year
old saying this is all.

Speaker 7 (05:43):
Gets my fault.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Yeah, And obviously he did not mention Lebron.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
And when he said veteran, of course, it's like okay.
Once he said Mount Rushmore, it was over. It was like,
oh wow, he's like calling out Lebron. And I I
expect Rob. I might be wrong, We'll see, I expect.
Whenever Reggie Miller addresses this publicly, I'm I'm thinking he

(06:11):
will deny.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
That he was talking about Lebron. Do you agree?

Speaker 8 (06:15):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (06:15):
No, I think I don't know how he's gonna say that.
I don't know who was he talking about?

Speaker 3 (06:20):
People in this league?

Speaker 4 (06:22):
Chris and the other guy. The other guy's on my
Rushmore don't play in the league.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
They were tired. I guess how who was he talking about?
Magic Johnson.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
I'm like, I know, I'm with you. Obviously only one player.
You think he's going to say though that I was
talking about? Yes, I was Reggie. Were you talking about Lebrown?
I was talking about Lebron.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
I don't think he's going to answer the question, but
I don't think he's going to deny it. I just
don't think he'll.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
I don't think I think he could throw. Now, you're right,
he probably won't go into this much detail.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
He won't go into detail on it because he could
theoretic was talking about Pleasure Shooter.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
He and obviously he might be on.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
I guess if you want to say he's on the
mountain rest world because he changed the game, but.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Obviously he's not viewed as the top four player. Say, k,
the's on some people's I mean say that, Chris.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
Right, But I agree, I don't think he'll I don't
think he'll name names.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
But what are your thoughts on this? So I'm gonna
say this.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
I want to go back, Chris, to to a week
and you and tell me if I'm it's a stretch,
if I'm reading too much into the tea leaves. But
did you hear with Michael Wilbon after? Okay, Chris, we
both know Michael Wilbond.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
For a million years.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
When Darvinham got fired, I've never heard Michael Wilbond so angry, right,
and took it out on Lebron.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
I mean he went at Lebron and he said, I'm
I'm talking about Lebron and Anthony Davis, Am I right?

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Yea, And he obviously dressed addressed Lebron because he was like,
you say you're the.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Gold right, That's okay. It was strong stuff. It was
very strong.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Okay, So Will Bond and now we are Reggie Miller
and I just wonder, Chris, there's two things I thought
of right away. A they already don't have a relationship
with Lebron, so it doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
And Will Brian does. I'm just some degree.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
I mean, he's yeah, he has a relationship, and he's
he knows Lebron's pr guy. So I'm not saying they're
like like they're not as tight as.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Like him and Charles Barb him and Michael George something
like that, you know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Right, I'm not saying that it's not like there's no yeah,
but you know he's done sit down interviews with Lebron,
which Lebron doesn't just do with anybody.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Right, you know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
But it's either okay, So it's partly that or partly
that the end is nearing and you feel like Chris
like it doesn't matter, like like it doesn't matter, like
I'm just gonna say whatever I gotta say. If he does,
people don't want to talk to me. Lebron might play
a couple more or whatever it is. It just feels

(09:11):
like like there might be a degree of that.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Am I stretch? Is it a stretch? Am I reaching?

Speaker 5 (09:16):
Well?

Speaker 4 (09:16):
Because people always when a guy is that big, you
gotta you know what I mean, you kind of want
to navigate through the waters. Not that you can't be critical, Chris,
but you know, when you're that critical on that kind
of form format for them, it's it's you.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Know about that have to Oh yeah, I'm sure that's
a good question. The first thing I would say, like
I said will ViOn does have a relationship with Lebron
because there's some school of thought out there. Rob and
I don't agree with this. Some people think he's trying

(09:52):
to protect or sustain Michael Jordan's goat status, right, like,
you know, he's trying to He was tearing down Lebron,
so because that's Jordan's competition for the go I don't
think that.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
I that, Yeah, I just don't. I think he was
saying what he really felt. Now.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
I the thing is, Rob Willbon doesn't need Lebron or
any player.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
But that's what I like.

Speaker 9 (10:26):
Neither do you like?

Speaker 3 (10:26):
We're not reporters anymore. No, but so we don't have to.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Get an interview with somebody or try to break stories
or try to have them talk to us.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
I mean, we just.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
You don't talk to us. Don't matter, we don't. That's
doesn't change our job. We could talk now. I was
close with Lebron. I I haven't seen Lebron in a
long time, just because I don't go to as many
games anymore. And I used to write a lot. I
wrote about five or six cover stories on Lebron. There
was a point where where Lebron would like I did

(11:01):
a lot of sit down interviews with him, and we
were really close, but I also felt like or you know, close.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
As a reporter and journalist.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
I mean, right, I mean, I don't want to act
like we were best friends or anything like that. But
I did feel though, like Rob, I still have to
call it like I see it.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
I can't just because I'm close with him.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
He gives me access that I have to, you know,
muzzle myself, and I tried to get my true feelings.
Sometimes it was very Prolember, like when he when he
went to Miami, Robin, just about every national figure was
killing him. I did not because I felt like, you know,
everybody's saying he's an ego maniac. I was like, well,

(11:50):
he's some He is suppressing his ego to go play
with two other stars. He was going from being the
king to wherever they were trying to say three kings
and all that stuff, you know, and I was saying,
he's sacrificing, you know, money. He was willing, at least
initially it was to take a little less money and

(12:11):
stuff and so. But anyway, and then other times, Rob,
I had to be critical. You and I were on
first take during with Skip during that Dallas Miami.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Series when Lebron was like, yes, I shut him down.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
I set you a picture of that recently, Chris, I
sent you a picture that I found.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
And I you know, I had been for years, you know,
a few years on.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
First take Rob debating Skip about Lebron. Skip of course
was going against him, and I was defending him at
every stop. But truthfully, I felt that but I couldn't
defend what happened against Dallas.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
No, I had to be objective.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
And you know, but that is it can't be a
challenge because sometimes you feel like you need a player,
But when you're in a position like will bind or
us or whatever, you don't need the players because you're
just giving your opinion, you know what I mean. Like,
and that can even sometimes it can even for some people. Rob,

(13:22):
if you're close to a player, it can't affect your commentary, right, and.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
You don't want to get into that right that realm
where you're doing that. You gotta be real. You can
be cool. It's a tough spot to be in, Chris,
but I just you got to face it when you can.
But the recent criticism to me sounds like.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Just sounds like you feel like people have have harbored
some people have harbored these feelings against.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Lebron for years. No, I just think.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
I just think at the end of at the end
of as time goes on, you know what I mean, Like.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
You can't keep biting your.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
Tongue at some point, right and I think, and I
think that's where we are.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Lebron's at the end. He might not be here in
another year or two.

Speaker 4 (14:21):
He's not the same players, not gonna be in the
championship or whatever it is. You know, it could be subconscious,
Chris not conscious. Subconscious there are other stars in the league.
While look at that man, look at the Jokers won
three m VP. Do you see what I'm saying, Like
like like subconsciously, the league is moving on, and I'm
not gonna be hurt by Lebron, even.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
If you think I'm just Bron will be It'll be
interesting to see what he does post playing career. But
we're almost certain he's going to be an owner. I
certainly believe he'll be an owner. And you know, I
don't think he'll disappear now, I don't. I don't expect
to see him regularly, you know, on like inside the

(15:02):
NBA or ESPN. You know, I don't think he'll go
that route. He's already starting a podcast.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
But I think whether it's through you know, the stuff
on uninterrupted or whatever.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
He will make his voice heard. So I don't. I
don't think Lebron's gonna go away.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Like Michael Jordan has chosen Rob not to really be
in the spotlight.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
And he did the right thing.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
Certain people like like Michael Jordan, I could see.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
You think he's too and now I wouldn't. I think
he's Honestly, I.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Rob, I think he's too big to do like I
do broadcast that time he's with the Sneaker's shot huge
with the Sinkers, and he owner team and all that,
like he was on another level.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Yeah, owning the team obviously.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
I mean, I guess, you look, Shack is big and
he's not as big as Jordan, but he's big. I
guess Jordan could do it, but I don't know if
he was like a good look that he doesn't. It
was like a good look that he doesn't.

Speaker 8 (15:55):
All right?

Speaker 1 (15:56):

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Chris and Rob live from the tire rack Com Studios.
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Reggie Miller goes
in on Lebron.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Your thoughts.

Speaker 4 (17:08):
All right, Mike and Austin, Texas. You're up first on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Mike?

Speaker 10 (17:16):
Great, thanks for taking my car. I really appreciate it.
I love the show. You guys are doing a phenomenal job.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Thank you, buddy, Thank you.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Hey.

Speaker 10 (17:23):
With Lebron, man, I think he's he's kind of worrying
out as welcome. I know he's on his way out.
But see we said none of them great, when Will Chamberlin,
Maggie Johnson, Michael Jordans, Reggie Miller, none of them have
tried to be little a coach in public on public
TV like Lebron is doing the picture fit to get
his way. Like one guy would say, one thing is
leaving coach. And then when Jan's gonna go right, who

(17:45):
is he gonna blame me on this?

Speaker 7 (17:46):
It's gonna be his fault?

Speaker 3 (17:48):
And you know what, Chris, because Byron Scott had similar
right he was talking about too.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Yeah, And I think that and I've said this is
a good point my first rib that I think I
think Lebron does take, you know, some blame. Like I've
talked to him and he took blame for twenty eleven
in Dallas and all that.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
But I think that the cryptic tweets and.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
The body language, you know, bad body language, I call
it that at the very least, that leaves things to interpretation, right,
and a lot of people interpret that stuff negatively.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
And so I do think that that you know, this
that kind.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Of leads to stuff like this because people don't know
what you're talking about. So a lot of times, Rob
they assume the worst. They assume that you, you know,
you got the coach fire, whether you really did or not,
when they see certain, you know, body language stuff.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
John in Kentucky, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
What's up?

Speaker 6 (18:55):
John?

Speaker 10 (18:57):
Hey, guys going on?

Speaker 5 (18:58):
Thanks for taking my call, appreciate it. I'm actually in Kentucky,
but I grew up in Ohio. When to say many
places Bussard is from.

Speaker 7 (19:08):
But anyy?

Speaker 3 (19:08):
What part of Ohio?

Speaker 5 (19:10):
Youngstown?

Speaker 8 (19:11):
Oh? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yes.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
So I just want to say I love Lebron when
he got into the league, I mean everything about him,
But I think at this point, I'm like a lot
of people, I just don't anymore. He's never had like
great insight, never read the room very well. If you
go back to the decision, you know, the playoffs against Dallas,
it's a lot of things, and then recently more so

(19:37):
so many coaches getting fired you know, pretty much by him.
So I think it's you know, Will Bond and Reggie
Miller just saying when a lot of people are thinking
lately it's just it's just kind of we're over them.
But you can at him. I don't know what you think.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
No, I mean there's something there.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
I mean, because you don't normally hear that, Chris, are
we making I'm sorry, go listen to go if you
didn't hear the Will Bond thing, and you already heard it,
Will Bond said Lebron specifically.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
It wasn't even like he was talking around it. Rob.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
I heard a commentator today that we know, I won't
name the name, but he said today on television. He
was talking about how he loves Anthony Everwards so much,
which is the same thing Reggie Miller was saying. And
he said, you know, we for so long, we've had
this league where everybody was buddies and getting along and
didn't want to hurt anybody's feel like all the stars
were buddies. To me, I felt like that was kind

(20:33):
of a shot at Lebron because that's viewed as you know,
he's The view is that he started that when he
went to Miami, you know, with.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
His Buddybody's buddy buddy and you remember. Yeah, people I
think tend to think that started with Lebron eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox Dave in Arizona. Oh, Dane,
I'm sorry, Dane, I need to clean my classes. You're
on the couple of Fox Sports Radio. Sorry, Dane.

Speaker 8 (21:00):
I appreciate you guys, No problem, man, I love you both. Man,
I appreciate you. Thanks absolutely. Hey, just wanted to touch
touch on this quickly, so I don't put any merit
in Reggie Miller's opinions about Lebron James. And here's why
Lebron James is bounced around to different teams. Reggie Miller
stayed on the same team as whole career. Lebn James

(21:22):
has won titles. Reggie Miller has one nun by Wait.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
A minute, okay, but you could do that. What about
Mike Wilburm I'm asking you.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
Mike Wilbon is a respected Chris longtime journalist and an
analyst and commentator. Just if you don't want to take
Reggie Miller, what do you say, Dane about Mike Wilbur I.

Speaker 8 (21:48):
Appreciate that, so honestly, I didn't. I didn't think much
about what Mike Wobon said only because I see him
as a traditional sort of dude right probably doesn't like,
you know, bringing his friends into his teams and creating
these super teams. I've heard his take on it before,
you know, so I would say that that's probably his
perspective of where he was coming from. You know. I

(22:11):
was just kind of taking a few minutes to trash
on Reggie Miller and his corny Personality's fine, you.

Speaker 7 (22:18):
Know all.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
That's fair. That's fair.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
REGI good shots, you could take shots.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
Is good for the gander, know right?

Speaker 8 (22:28):
Right?

Speaker 4 (22:28):
Trash talking Tuesday tomorrow, Christ already chiming in right.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
Woody Page is around. I can't believe we're going to
talk to Woody.

Our next guest. Oh, we both go back more than
twenty years now. At this point, he's a famous Denver
Gazet columnist. You see him all the time on ESPN's
Around on the Horn. Our friend, Woody Page, Woody, welcome
to the Eye Couple.

Speaker 7 (23:05):
I'd like to go back twenty years guys.

Speaker 6 (23:10):
Period, right, I hear you on next Hey, Woody, I
was telling Chris the story of when I tried out
with you for Cole Pizza for first intend remember that
many many moons ago.

Speaker 7 (23:22):
I remember, sure, Yes, I wanted both of you guys
to be my partner.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
You remember that, Yes, I got.

Speaker 7 (23:30):
I got stuck with the guys. I don't know what
happened to Skip.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
We were saying, I mean, you were the star of
the show at that time, and I because I was
on there all the time and you were, you would
have had Honcho on that first and tent.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Back in the day.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
All right, Woody, Well, look, you guys.

Speaker 7 (23:57):
Are calling me to congratulate.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
Me, right, Why what'd you say? Tell us?

Speaker 7 (24:02):
Well, I was the one who said the series was
over between Minnesota and Denver. Oh and and Michael Malone
used me and the tape that he gave the players.
So I'm the reason why they've come back to make.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
It too too, I would he, I think I have
you seen the tape?

Speaker 7 (24:23):
No, I've heard about it though, Yeah, I'm one of
the people in it.

Speaker 8 (24:28):
I know.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Yeah, I didn't. I believe you want to.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
I'm guessing because I was being really gloated about them
being done. So I may be in there too, but
I was in agreement. I still picked the Minnesota in seventh.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
I didn't. I thought after the first two games it
might be quicker. What do you think changed?

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Would he in those you know, from those first two
games to the second two.

Speaker 7 (24:54):
Guys, I think it's you'd have to go beyond just
making the thirty second response. There are a bunch of
different things. Truthfully, that happened. One of the issues that
nobody's talking about is they were bringing the ball up.
The Nuggets were bringing the ball up to court slowly,
and they weren't getting into their offense. One of the

(25:16):
changes they made, and if you watch the game the
next game you'll see it, is they're getting across the
bitcourt line and two three, four seconds, so it's giving
them more of a chance to get into the pick
and roll with Murray and jokicch that Aaron can get

(25:38):
deeper in the court.

Speaker 8 (25:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:42):
Well, I think that is a small point maybe to
some people, but getting into your offense a lot quicker.
And I think secondly is both the bigs of the
Timberwolves are struggling in this series and Jo Kich is
going right at Gobert. And if you've got Towns not

(26:03):
you know, hitting two out of ten shots or five
out of sixteen, you're not getting any help out of
the out of the Bigs. And so it's all on
Anthony Edwards.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
How about fans in Denver Wood?

Speaker 4 (26:14):
He I mean, after you one of the championship a
year ago and then they lose the first two games
at home, did people panic in Denver?

Speaker 7 (26:26):
Well, I say, anybody jump off a belting?

Speaker 3 (26:29):
I hold not?

Speaker 7 (26:33):
Yeah, of course they did. Here's the point for you guys.
Tonight the Avalanche playing and they got both both their
teams in basketball and hockey in the second round, and
not one of them is won a game at home.
The Avalanche lost the other night at home. The Nuggets
have lost two at home. This is the greatest home

(26:53):
court advantage in all courts. And for you to lose
at home, I think, at least I think we'll see
the Avalanche, who play in an hour or so. I
think they'll tie up that series and it'll be too
two also, so they're both in a situation where if
they are able to protect the home advantage that we

(27:17):
talked about over and over, you know, since you guys
were kids, we were talking about you know, in football
always had an advantage. Baseball the ball flies out a
course field, and of course in basketball and hockey you
wear teams down. So I mean, if they turned this
series around in both sports because of the home court,

(27:40):
which has been a disadvantage to them, I think that
makes a difference. But I think this Minnesota Nuggets series
is going to go to the seventh game. I see
the Nuggets finally grabbing a game at home. That kind
of figured it out. Murray seems to be and it
wasn't appointment. It wasn't made of it the other night,
I guess. But his strain in his in his leg

(28:03):
seems to be a lot better way he was moving around,
So I think that having a day. We saw something
the other night that happened. The diver bench finally contributed
more than two points.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
So right, and that's big two on the road Chris
What what?

Speaker 4 (28:20):
What? What is Murray like? I don't know him personally.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
I like him. I love his game obviously.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
I didn't like, though, you know, the situation where he's
through the heat pad. I actually think he definitely should
have been suspended, and if the Nuggets weren't down oh two,
maybe he would have been I didn't like that he
didn't talk to the media after that, so I was
disappointed in that, and and it seemed to me like

(28:49):
it was an indictment of his character.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
But I've always liked him outside of that. What is
he like to the degree that you know him?

Speaker 7 (28:58):
Oh, he's really a nice guy. I don't know that
I've ever met a Canadian. I didn't like that one
played hockey.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
I was say, what Canadians on the nicest people going career?

Speaker 7 (29:09):
Yeah? Yeah, genuinely. If you Chris, if you or Rob
spent time with him, you'd go, there's one of the
nicest guys in the world. He's really Uh. For instance,
early in the series when he hit the two shots
that won games against the Lakers, that the first person
he'd go go to was his dad. His dad's a

(29:31):
class act, and I mean he comes from a great family.
He comes from good roots growing up in Canada, and
I was kind of having fun with it. But he
genuinely is a good guy with the Kentucky briefly and
he is a gentleman that was totally unlike him. And

(29:52):
we've all seen you guys have coached sports enough, we've
seen guys go off, and we saw it with Joki
a couple of years ago when he whacked the guy
in the back of the head and the kitchen is
a good guy, plays about every thousands gone his place.
But I think you know Gobert, you talked about it.

(30:13):
He should have been spended. I was in favor of that, actually,
But Gobert earlier in the year did the money sign,
got all over the referees. He was fined one hundred
thousand dollars in a regular season game, and that's basically
what the league decided in this situation. And Gobert last

(30:35):
night was accused of doing that money sign toward the referees.
And if you saw that play where he shoved Murray
in the back and they were late to call the
play and that's when he made So I would say this,
I've known hundreds of basketball players well from Julia serving

(31:00):
to Bobby Jones, who two guys that played for Philadelphia
and championship teams, to Michael Jordan, and I think all
of them. This is not defending Murray because I said
to you, I thought you had been spending too. But
I think every one of them that I've known in
fifty years of coming basketball have had their moments. And

(31:22):
he was so frustrated he couldn't make anything. He felt
like he was getting jobbed on the court. If you remember,
right before this situation happened, he was trapped over on
the side near mid court and he didn't get a
foul call. He couldn't get the basket out, basketball out.
It happens to all of us. I think maybe you

(31:45):
two guys.

Speaker 5 (31:45):
Have you a good.

Speaker 7 (31:48):
Churchman that you are, that you've never had a home
up work.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
Well, at least he was at that moment.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
I started the show with a moment exactly Chris is
at church.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
At least one of us are.

Speaker 7 (32:02):
Yeah, I'm sure I've been pissed it at a time.
Not yeah, on national television. I'm on that.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
That's right.

Speaker 7 (32:09):
I've gotten pissed on national television. And I don't know,
I don't I'm not sure I have been whether I've
been suspended one time. I'll tell you I've never said this.
One time ESPN said take the rest of the week off,
and I thought, oh, they're giving me a vacation. Whether
that was vacation or sension, that was a suspension right there.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
Take the rest of the week off.

Speaker 7 (32:33):
Wow, that was that was the full pizza.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
The cold pizza days.

Speaker 9 (32:39):
Man.

Speaker 7 (32:40):
Uh yeah, yeah, so what the.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
Last thing.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
We got about a minute here. I also got a
feeling maybe I think that people they don't want the
Joker to win again. It's like he won three m vps.
If he went if he wins another championship back to back,
people are going to have to put this guy and
respect him and put him in. I I told Chris

(33:07):
he'd be in my top ten in the NBA if
he was able to win a championship, and especially being
down oh two and coming back and then going through
to win another championship.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
Where are you on where he fits in?

Speaker 7 (33:20):
Yeah? Well he actually won for MVP, so the year
he didn't win, the last year, not winning the regular
season MVP, he was fining, so he's got four. I
think it was sort of like Magic Johnson. When he
came into the league, we had never seen anybody there
was six nine sixty ten as a point guard. He
really changed the concept of the game because if you remember,

(33:43):
and I'll make this short, but in the finals, when
Kreem Abdul Jabbar was hurt, he moved from Foyd point
guard to center and we went totally changed the concept
of the game. Well, guess what we have seen. A
man in Jokic changed the concept of the game. And
I think you're going to see more and more players

(34:06):
actually try to adopt what he's doing. So will Chamberlain
change the game? I think that Magic change the game.
And we're seeing that, and guys don't really know how
to take that, and there is fatigue. I mean, people
are saying, you know, we're tired of seeing his game,
let's see somebody else. Well, you're seeing Anthony Edwards. I

(34:26):
am so amazed by how many great young players they
are in the league. Yeah, and I think they're getting
better educated at basketball by not going to college because
they're playing atau Bow one hundred days a year. They're playing.
They're playing at academies, and I think they're getting better
as shooters. They're getting better as athletes and I'm amazed.

(34:50):
And so when you've got a guy that's not an athlete,
and they could define athlete, but when he's a basketball player,
he is a basketball.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
He's the first point center. We had to point forwards.
He's the point center and there's no doubt about that.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
Wood.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
He thank you for joining the way and always a
great to talk with you.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
Thank you, buddy.

Speaker 7 (35:12):
Yeah, and if we ever started cold pizza again, it'll
be the three of us.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Bet, let's do it.

Speaker 6 (35:18):
Let's do it, all right, Marin, A couple coming your way,
keep it lock.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
It's the Eye Couple of Christ and Rob live from
the Fool You dot com studios and Rob. The Celtics
up eighty three seventy eight uh to the Cavaliersole Donovan Mitchell. Look,
we talked about it from both sides. It is disappointing.

(35:58):
I mean, if they win their up three to one series,
pretty much over. But you know, party wants to be
like they shouldn't be struggling against the Cavaliers like this
when Donovan Mitchell is not playing. But then again, Rob,

(36:19):
we talked about it from the other side. When they
won their last championship in two thousand and eight. They
went seven games in the first two rounds and six
in the finals in the Eastern Conference finals, So you
can't always judge a team if they're struggling early in
the playoffs. You can't write them off and say they

(36:40):
won't be able to get it done.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
No, you can't. I don't know. The Celtics are really weird.

Speaker 4 (36:50):
I think, Chris, as we talked about their path through
the East, it's set up for them.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
All they got to do is kind of execute it. Right.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
It's how much this path in the West. I mean,
somebody dropped breadcrumbs for this path. I mean all they
gotta do is eat them and go back the same way.
I mean, it's all set up, But it ain't about that, Chris.
It's bigger than that for the Celtics, right, because we've
been here before.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
Absolutely got They're trying to win something.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
So Donovan Mitchell rob out with the calf strain. I
mean he joins Giannis who had a calf, boy, Chris.
All the injuries, it's been brutal. Yeah, it really and we,
like you said, we can't document it, but we've never
seen anything like that. And the league is going to
have to take a look at what in the world

(37:40):
is going on. And I don't know the answer. I
think we got two good theories, Rob. I think one
of them is that guys don't play enough during the
season or even practicing to build up their bodies for
the resistance that's you know, demanded of you in the
playoffs in particular. And two the other theory is the

(38:03):
floor is so spaced and spread out today that defenders
have to guard and cover so much more territory, Rob,
unlike back in the day when the game was based
around the paint, and so you didn't have to move
as much defensively as specially or offensively for that matter,

(38:23):
and cover quite as much ground. And so that's a
theory that it's just too much for the human body
to play eighty two games and more in the playoffs
under that situation.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
I don't know what's right.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
And I've also remember I've told you the other thing too,
is all the working out and all the training. Yes,
like an overdoing it, like not allowing your body, Chris
to rest. What happened to the extra ten or fifteen
pounds used to put on in the off season and
then work it off.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
That's all gone.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
Latrell Spreewell used to tell us Rob when I cover
him when he was with the Knicks, and he said
he wouldn't touch a basketball for about two months.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
There's a lot of guys like that used to do that, right,
just not even touch it. Yeah, and so get away
from it.

Speaker 4 (39:09):
But that and that goes for every sport, ride baseball
and basketball in particular.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
All Right, we got an hour left on the eye.
A couple of y'all know what to do. Lock it
