That connection is Express Employment Professionals don't go it alone.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Visit expresspros dot com to find a location near su
That's expresspros dot com. And now is the time for
the Expresspros dot Com Pro of the Week.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
The pro that we go to Lebron James.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
He had twenty five points on Saturday against South su
Dam and then another twenty today against Germany. So again,
congratulations in Mozeltov to Lebron for being the Express Pros.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Pro of the Week. Yes, indeed, thank you very much.
All right, that little kid is like twenty five now.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
I know, right, Lebron Jane all that, don't forget Coming
up in the bottom of the hour, Mark Stein from
Fox Sports Radio. He's an NBA inside of you also
as the co host of This League Uncut the podcast.
So we'll catch up with Mark Stein in about twenty
eight twenty seven minutes. But until we get there, Gilbert Arenas,

(01:53):
who has a podcast who flies off the handle system
crazy with sugar and stuff on the podcast, has really
uh taken it to a new level.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
After the United States.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Victory from the jobs fairly beat Soudan South Sudan. They
were favored by forty three points forty three and a half,
let's get it right half, and the United States won
by one when Lebron James had an un uh had
an easy layup unguarded layup to win the game and
give the US a one point victory.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
And so Gilbert Arenas was not happy and went.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
Off We almost lost the trib.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
This is crazy man in beat over there throwing the game.
He's doing the game for his cousins.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
He was supposed to be losing to air up there
come on, man, cool Runnings weren't supposed to lose for
the cool running team.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
They don't even have shoot They get their shoes from America.
We gotta ship them shoes.

Speaker 6 (03:01):
They don't even have.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
Basketball rearsal when I've seen he had to walk what
an hour and a half.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
To go shoot basketball.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
We lose it to people who don't even they got
baskets in the back. They shooting on peach baskets in dirt,
no shoes.

Speaker 7 (03:20):
Yeah, this is this is disgusting. It's the nfhobic. It's
really some self hate racist racism, you know. But the
thing is too he's trying to be funny and it's
falling on deaf ears because it's factually incorrect, especially when
you consider the amount of money that lou All Dang
and others around the Royal Ivy and the like have

(03:41):
invested in basketball in what I believe is the youngest
country on the planet, South Sudan.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Has he heard of NFL Africa, NBA.

Speaker 7 (03:50):
Africa well, and Luke and Luke and Ba Mute was
a big part of that, right, so you already have that.
That's how you find the guy like Joellen beating the
first dog on place, was like, I don't know what
he was doing before he was playing basketball, but he was.
She didn't start until he was much until he was
like a sophomore junior in high school.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
In part because of that.

Speaker 7 (04:07):
But this, look, there's plenty of ways to talk about
how disappointed you were in Team USA without making fun
of the opponent. I was witting On Saturday, VJ and
I were doing the show Saturday eight to eleven Eastern.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
We were on just forty five minutes after the game.

Speaker 7 (04:25):
We both excoriated Team USA and had nothing but good
things to say about South Sudan, Like, there's ways to
do it where you're not literally the opponent, and especially
when you're sitting up just you're talking out the left
side of your mouth because you got no idea what
you're talking about, Especially when you consider, like I said,
the investment that they've put in to basketball in South
Houdaan and the NBA talent that they have both on

(04:47):
the roster and coaching their roster. It's just factually incorrect
and it's something that there's really no space for in
the commentary. And I'm glad to see that people aren't
just laughing it off.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
And Gilbert Aerenus, let's call them ignorant. The words Martin
are hateful, racist to all Africans.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Why in the world would you attack them?

Speaker 3 (05:16):
What did they do wrong that you would want to
chastise them and make fun of their existence and how
they've done things? And I don't know people did research
about Gilbert Areenas today whether it matters or not, because
it's just racist. Gilberterenas Martin is he black to my
knowledge until you look up his Wikipedia and it says

(05:39):
he's born two Cuban parents, so he's Cuban, which nobody
really knew, not that that really matters. But my point
is there's no place for this. This is what happens
when rich guys have nothing better to do, so they
get a podcast and people follow them and they get

(06:01):
on and they think that they're so cute and funny
and they can just chastise. They don't have to answer
anybody Martin right, there's no parent company.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
So they just say whatever they want.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
They do a disservice to the people that supposedly they
serve and how people are supposed to look at if
you're if you're Gilbert Arenas uh and your alma model
wants to invite you to something, Martin or the NBA
wants How in the world could Arizona invite Gilbert Arenas

(06:35):
to anything? What would you be in inviting him to
after those kind of comments?

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Nothing?

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Is that really where you want to go. It's mean spirited,
it's hurtful. There's just so many things that are wrong
with this. Really, that's your comedy act. That's how you
think you want to make fun of the Africans who
put on a ball game, Martin, because the US let

(07:04):
them stay in the game, right and you.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
Talked about it.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
They've worked hard, they've had instructions and coaches come over
from the United States.

Speaker 7 (07:13):
I mean Royal Ivy coaches a team that was Kevin
Durant's teammate of Texas. Louell dang is the president of
the Foundation of South Sudan Basketball Foundation assistant coach on
the team.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
He played in the NBA for what fifteen years.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Not like they were out there playing in the middle
of the continent with no supervision and they just showed
up to play basketball.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
With no shoes, Not like they just walked down. He
picked fifteen players. It's like, hey, you.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Guys want to come play basketball. You got a game
guys over there? Hey, why don't you come over here?
What no shoes?

Speaker 4 (07:45):
Don't worry about it?

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Really is that where we're going to make fun of
African people.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
It's just playing wrong.

Speaker 7 (07:55):
And it's also factually incorrect.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Like it's also not like that's the other thing.

Speaker 7 (08:02):
It'd be one thing if he was actually truthful about it,
and then you can talk about the delivery and how
he was bringing.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
It's just not true. So it's like, not only are
you going up there and flatly lying, you're not even
doing it funny, that's not even funny. But but why Martin?

Speaker 3 (08:17):
You know why because you don't have any other research
on it Exactly. If he had done any research before
making that, he would know all the facts that you know,
you just talked about. But this is how these podcasts.
This is my biggest pushback when I talk about a
lot of these podcasts that athletes are doing. Hey, get
into space, do whatever you want to do. Guys, how

(08:40):
many times have you listened to these podcasts? No pushback,
no research, nothing, They're just talking.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Really, it would have been nice.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
If somebody would have been on the podcast to push
back and say do you know that they put a
lot of money into South Sudan and they got former
NBA players who are coaching them.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Hey, did you know that.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
It's not the Cosby kids playing basketball on a Saturday?

Speaker 4 (09:08):
What are the kids from South? Shoot?

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Dan?

Speaker 4 (09:10):
This was a G League MVP.

Speaker 7 (09:12):
Last year, right, Like there are several winion game you'll
play for the Lakers. He would got minutes for the Lakers.
Gotta end up getting cut, got cut by Boston this year.
But the point remains he was in training camp. So's
he did? They just find him right, like, not even
want to play. He's a good player, So Gilbert.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Areen, I mean after that, I mean, I'm sure he's wanted.
Maybe when Amazon gets the contract for the NBA to
be on the pre and post game show?

Speaker 4 (09:37):
Is that who you want? Like? Like, why why go there?
Why do that? I just don't understand it.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
You already know, but what I'm telling you, because it's
not his job, it's a hobby, and they don't feel
that they can be hurt in any way, right Martin,
there's a part of that that allows people to do
stuff that's just playing wrong. And I don't know how

(10:06):
he felt or thought that that was going to be received.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
I just don't. I don't know.

Speaker 7 (10:12):
Well, this is part of it where this is the
part of the situation where you end up where the
media landscape now was dominated by people who are famous
for doing something besides talking on in the media.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
Right, Gilbert Arenas is not famous because of his podcast.

Speaker 7 (10:25):
He's famous because he played professional basketball for whoever long.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Right.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
But people make it like these are respected that broadcasters
and he's not the case. And once again he's proving
to you and showing you that you can listen all
you want. I'm not mad. I don't care what his
numbers are. You know what I mean. You can listen
all you want. You've got to high profile him. I
didn't play any NBA. I went to journalism school. I

(10:49):
have a corporate business here Premiere Networks and Fox Sports
Radio that will hold me to a certain standards.

Speaker 7 (10:58):
Look, if I had come out on Saturday after the game,
me and VJ were the first one of the first
people to talk about that on national radio.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
If I come out like Gilbert.

Speaker 7 (11:06):
Erna ins, then I probably would have got a text
from the boss saying, don't worry about Monday, go ahead,
You're good you're gonna sit on the front.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Don't worry about Monday, right, might not even be here.
I mean, come on, Martin stupidity.

Speaker 7 (11:20):
And the thing is Rob you just said is go
to the get sent to the principal's office.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
Right. There's no principal's office for him to go to. No,
And that's the issue.

Speaker 7 (11:28):
It's the only thing that is going to be the
court of public opinion, which you know, I saw several
people on Twitter go ahead and put their two cents
in it saying how wrong this was, Mary mac being
one of them on board up here pop right up.
But I searched Gilvererrita South who then. But there's a
bunch of people who are pushing back on this. But
the reality of the situation is without a big ground

(11:48):
swell of online, of people online saying like this is wrong,
this needs to stop, like you know, quote unquote cancel him.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Unfortunately, there's not gonna be much to say here.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
And let's bring in Mary Mary on this, because she
would totally bother by this.

Speaker 8 (12:05):
Mary tell everybody, well, I mean I just feel like
in terms of and even like before the game, I
think Paul Pierce had also said some stuff on I
think it's undisputed.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
The f S one and.

Speaker 8 (12:15):
He ended up during the game apologized on air and
you know, was saying like, oh sorry, and what's at familiar?
But I think the thing is like with people with
that platform when you go about, you know, ignorantly talking
about Africans or even the South Sudan team like and
not realizing like, okay, a lot of these kids aren't
like actually just you know, like I think it's it's
bigger than basketball, and it goes to show like, Okay,

(12:38):
it's not okay to be ignorant, and there are people
in these spaces that you know you're in that you
know some of them have that same background like I'm
South Sudanese and hearing that, I was like, okay, that's
not okay at all. And it just goes to show
like it pushes such a negative connotation and it put
a negative agenda when that's like the last thing you
should be doing.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
It's just stereo tip col hate and racism. I mean,
there's nothing. I don't even know what other words to use.

Speaker 7 (13:04):
The one that comes to minds to me is just
lazy because if you watch the game and paid attention
to the game. There's so many things that you can
pick at from the United States performance that's got nothing
to do with the opponent.

Speaker 8 (13:17):
I mean, a lot of these kids, you know, look
up to Gilbert Arenas or Paul Pierce or like a
lot of these kids lived out here in America or
grew up in Australia. So these kids looked up to
all these NBA players.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
And let me give you this.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Twelve players on the South Sudan need SUDA and roster
you ready, Martin one play in the NBA Gay one
one G League MVP, which you mentioned. Five played professionally
in Australia and five played college basketball in America.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
They don't think, I believe, look at the team think.

Speaker 7 (13:46):
I don't know if it's kinded on the list, but
one of them kids is about to be a freshman
at Duke next year.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
So it's like these dudes could play like they could.
Are they NBA All Stars?

Speaker 9 (13:55):
No?

Speaker 7 (13:56):
But don't make it like the United States have won
that game handily, probably, But he.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Made it like they were like they were like they
were bush men with no shoes and a peach basket
for a hoop, and they came out and almost beat
you out.

Speaker 8 (14:09):
Yeah, a lot of these kids are first gen Sudanese Americans,
our first gen Australian kids.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 7 (14:15):
Tm USA should have pounded Germany into obliteration today, but
that didn't happen either.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
So what's the jokes there? Like, you know, like I'm
just not a fan.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Yeah, and God knows, I don't want to hear any
German jokes either, I mean, God all right, eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox. We do want to hear
from you, I mean, we really do. Did you find
Gilbert Aareniz's comments about the South South.

Speaker 8 (14:38):
Sudanese South Sidanes team or Sudanese not sudan No Sudanese.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Okay team offensive? Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
Will continue that conversation with you. Next you want to
hear from you? It is the eyd Couple on a

want to get to.

Speaker 11 (15:24):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 10 (15:37):
Yeah, you blubber listen Jam and me. Well, you know
what it's called over promise. You should be good at
it because you've been over promising women for years.

Speaker 11 (15:43):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also going to
talk life and relationships. And if Rich and I are
arguing about something or we didn't have enough time, it
will continue on our after show called over Promised. Well,
if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure
you check out over Promise and also Uncensored, by the way,
so maybe.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
We'll go at it even a little harder.

Speaker 10 (16:04):
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.

Speaker 11 (16:07):
There you go over Promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised
with Cadino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts
or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
It is the odd couple Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (16:25):

That's why I valued it up to fifteen hundred dollars.

(16:46):

I should say so. You can enter every single day

To enter, get the rules for the first set of
four brand new tires, visit Fox Sports Radio dot com
furnished by tire rack dot com.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
The way tire buying should be.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
All right, it is Rob Parker, Martin Whiss and do
we have Joel embiid with a response, Oh, okay, yes,
I would love to hear this to Gilbert Arenas.

Speaker 12 (17:20):
I'm just I don't come and I'm African. You know
I might be.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Playing tell me.

Speaker 12 (17:28):
You know I was telling you about you know, Cal
you know I'm saying your social man. Yeah, I don't
know exactly what I said, so I can't come in
with me. But if it was not negative, he's just
deciding it because you see what you know African basketball
as you know, for us to be in this all,

(17:49):
to be able to make some sort of impact even
in opposition that I am, you know, still out around
following the Parson not step a busts off. So I v.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
So much that no doubt good comments. He didn't hear
it totally, so go on here.

Speaker 7 (18:14):
Basically he's like, I don't contone y'all talking stuff about
that about Africa.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
No doubt eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. I
know a few people want to jump in. Martin, Dominique
and Denver. You're on the eye couple on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 13 (18:26):
Y'all doing, y'all doing.

Speaker 4 (18:27):
It doing great? What's up Dominique?

Speaker 13 (18:30):
Oh man, that no Berteririna stuff is ridiculous? Man, How
are you going to be so stupid to make those comments?
First of all, and second of all, he said, cool
running that's jamake up. I know he doesn't even know
what he's talking about. Like it is just ridiculous and
it's just corny man. Like I hate to say this, Rob,
I don't want you all to get in trouble from
me saying this, but don't remind me. It reminds me

(18:52):
of Stephen A. Smith when he has that fake laugh
and he's trying to clown stuff and he knows it
ain't funny, but he thinks it's supposed to be funny.
So arenas was doing to me, and I just I
don't know. It was it was lame, man. I wanted
he could have did much better.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
It was. It was terrible, and you just can't.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
If people wanted to push back and be mad, they
have a right to because there's just no place for that.
It really is an eight seven, seven ninety nine on
Fox Mason.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
In the Bay Area. You're on the couple of Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 14 (19:21):
Yo, Yo, guys, you guys are killing it today. I
want to start off by staying what Gilbert said was
very stale and how right tasteless, Like Rob Parker on
an off day has me and stitches.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
And heard of that.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Well, I appreciate that, but I don't know if what
he thought was funny, because it just was.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
It was terrible.

Speaker 14 (19:40):
Well, Rob, it just seems to be this trend for
anyone with a microphone to clown on this team. I
watched that game, and I was amazed and love the
poise of the south st and these guys played with.
I mean, it was the first time for me, as
well as probably thousands upon thousands of people to get
to actually even see that team, and it was surprising
and a good way made for a great game, and

(20:01):
I found myself somewhat rooting for SELFU damn. But I mean,
let's get back to Gilbert. I mean, Gilbert has never
been one to have really great judgment. I mean we
know that going back, we know that. You know, I
also kind of want to talk about it from this angle,
just to end on it. You know, I didn't even
hear about it or see a clip about it until

(20:23):
you know, it's brought up on the radio on your
Guys show. So I mean, I just think obviously there's
no place for it, But also I don't think it
should be amplified in any way. You know, there's like
enough divide and it's your show. You talk about what
you want. But like I said, I wouldn't have even
heard it. And I know it's in certain circles, but
right I said, I didn't get it.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
Yeah, I hear you. I hear you. But we can't.
My thing is, and thanks for the call. We can't.
We can't ignore it, Martin. You know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
We can't let people just say whatever they want and
hurt other people and not call them out for something
that's just so terrible and not not worthy of going
down that road.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
Don't get to his point.

Speaker 7 (21:06):
I think that if we were just replaying it and
being like, oh, that's terrible, adding no context to it,
then I agree with the amplification. But I think if
you're answering another take like that, if you're giving a
response that has nuanceings like like we did, I think
you're in good shape. Seawan and Sacramento. You're on the
eye couple of Fox Sports Radio. Sean, what's up, buddy?

Speaker 9 (21:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 15 (21:28):
I'll go from another mother ask get Bayless's best friend forever,
Miss Martin.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Why.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
What's up? Man?

Speaker 15 (21:36):
What did it done? I know I'm gonna ask real
quick before I jump into my take. What everybody in
America is thinking, are you gonna be here for trash
talking Tuesday? For the rematch between you and Fernando.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
I might have to call in and trash Fernando. I
know that's right. Fernando's Fox Sports Radio legend at this point.
I know he sure is.

Speaker 9 (21:54):
Hey man, the people want him more than they want
Tyson and whatever his name is from the internet right now,
but real quick on the take, man, And this is
what a lack of talent looks like. Ladies and gentlemen.
Everybody wants to give the.

Speaker 13 (22:05):
Guy proft because he likes to shock and all people.

Speaker 15 (22:08):
But it's just like a comedian who doesn't have good
jokes and comes out cussing and calling people out and
making fun of everybody in the front row. It might
be cute of you know, one or two shows, but
eventually the ad gets so. Gilbert Arenas called up everybody
in the nineties NBA, a bunch of co kid and
said that they weren't even all that great, right, said,
everybody in Sacramento.

Speaker 9 (22:26):
Is ugly worst place to play. Now he's on here
talking about people from Africa and doesn't even have African descent.
But above all that, man, he is a Cuban, a
native Cuban, and if you look at their history, I mean,
you have nowhere else to talk. And that's not to
be belittle anybody. We're America where a melting pot. So
I feel like for him to spread that message. That
speaks volume mess to why nobody's picked him up. Not

(22:48):
Fox Sports Radio, now ESPN, no mainstream channel will pick
him up. And slowly you'll see him dwindle because he's
out here talking a bunch of mess about stuff. He
has no idea what he's talking about.

Speaker 1 (22:59):
Me.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
There you go, period, Very nice. Mary mcapproved, Mary mcaproved.
That was it, period. I love it?

Speaker 4 (23:06):
All right.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Coming up next, we're gonna talk with Mark Stein, Fox
Sports Radio, NBA Insider.

Speaker 4 (23:11):
We'll do that next, but first let's get you caught up.

Speaker 2 (23:13):

the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to

Speaker 4 (23:25):
All right, Coming up now, we're gonna talk with Mark Stein,
Fox Sports Radio, NBA Insider and co host of This
League Uncut the podcast, Mark Stein, say hello to Martin
White's filling in for Chris how are you, gentlemen.

Speaker 6 (23:41):
I'm good, I'm good.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
Yes, you know, we actually have a clean show today.

Speaker 9 (23:47):
No, I'm just kidding.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
Yes, there you go. All good. Now he'll be back
a little vacation this time of the year. Uh help me.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
We just finished talking about, uh, Gilbert Arenas's comments. We
know Paul Pierce had to apologize as well.

Speaker 4 (24:05):
Uh, what do you make of.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
Of you know, these former NBA players who are in
these positions of commenting and podcasts and all this other stuff,
and the comments that are coming out from them.

Speaker 6 (24:19):
I guess you're gonna have to educate man exactly specifically
what you're referring to, because I'm I can't say that
I'm paying that.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
Yeah, it was, It's a lot, but I don't want
you to have to comment on something that you haven't
heard yet. But Gilbert Arenas uh basically had racist stuff
to talk about the Sudanese team that they played with
they have didn't have any shoes and they playing in
the Peach Basket for the hoop and how in the
world the US almost lost to this what they call

(24:54):
the tribe, what do you call it? I mean, just
just the racist, you know, stuff against.

Speaker 6 (25:01):
Program is one of the best basketball stories I've ever seen,
what lou All Dang has done in a country with
no infrastructure. And look, a lot of the guys on
that team have played college ball in the States. A
few of them have played in the NBA, but you
know they do have I think, look, I think the

(25:23):
United States took them very very lightly, which is natural
an exhibition play, but that team played to the absolute maximum.
And you know Ayak who hit the six threes, Carlic
Jones who had a triple double wedding, and Gabriel obviously

(25:43):
you guys know play for the Lakers. All these guys
had a.

Speaker 13 (25:45):
Look in the NBA.

Speaker 6 (25:46):
And just we see this time and time again on
the international stage. The opportunity for a young nation like
South Sudan that you know, it's not just the program
that is new. The country is, you know, really new
to this stage. To get the chance to play against

(26:07):
these famous names from the NBA. It's the game of
their life. And the US wasn't ready and was incredibly
fortunate to win. And look, I've covered I've been to
three Olympics. I covered Team USA for a long time.
Basically twenty twelve, twenty fourteen, twenty sixteen. I was there
with them in every competition in USA has to overwhelm

(26:31):
teams with its defense. That's how you offset the lack
of continuity. But against South Sudan, they didn't bring it
at all. They gave up nearly sixty points in the
first half. And that's just inexcuse me. You're gonna misshot
and you're gonna make turnovers. That stuff happens. But the

(26:54):
US has to guard, and they they didn't guard. And
if they're going to have success in the playoffs, it's
got to start with defense. Because you look at the
defenders on this team, that's where and I think that's
what Steve, Steve Kurr has been looking for when he's,
you know, mixing up these rotations and trying to get

(27:15):
defense out of this group.

Speaker 7 (27:16):
Mark you said the US probably took shauas U Dan
a little lightly, but I mean the four point margin
against Australia, one point against austru Dan.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
The Germany game was in question towards the end of are.

Speaker 7 (27:27):
They just taking all these games lightly or is there
something that's fundamentally missed.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
Look, Germany and Australia have tounds of continuity any years
of experience together and that that's what the United States
lacks Germany or the reigning World champions. I know, if
you're not really paying attention, if you're not a basketball
addict like me, you probably weren't dialed into the World

(27:55):
Cup last summer right when Germany won it all years
after Dirk Nivitski retired. I mean, Dirk inspired this whole
generation of guys they have now. Look at the way
Daniel type plays for Germany compared to how he functions
in the NBA. Mo Wagner the same. I mean, these

(28:16):
guys play above themselves on the international stage, and again
they they have basketball is we look like strangers a
lot of the time when we throw these teams of
all stars together, and it's not easy. By the end
of the Olympics, I promise you Team USA will be

(28:38):
playing a lot better than they've looked right now, because
by the end of the Olympics they will have a
head of steams. But they are four or five games
into it now and they just it's a team that
has never played together. And no matter how good you are,
basketball is a team game. And when they're playing Australia

(29:02):
or Germany, where you know, Germany got t tend guys
back from the team that won the World Cup last summer,
so that's not an insignificant advance.

Speaker 12 (29:14):
I know.

Speaker 6 (29:15):
We just look at the names on paper and expect
the US to win by thirty.

Speaker 14 (29:19):
It just it is not possible.

Speaker 6 (29:21):
These nations, these other teams have improved way too much
since a young Rob Barker and I were around when
the Dream Team was playing.

Speaker 4 (29:30):
That's right, my god.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
Last thing Steve Kerr and his coaching, is he just waiting,
you know, like the younger guys, or not starting obviously
the older guys, or is he just looking at things
and eventually some of these changes and rotations will change,
or or is this it is what it is what

(29:53):
we're seeing.

Speaker 6 (29:54):
Well, look, they had to win a recruiting battle to
get Joe LMB. So as I watched this thing, you
know this isn't reporting now, this is me kind of
reading the tea leaves. And look, I don't travel with
us any team USA anymore. I'm not there every day
like I used to be. Twenty twelve, twenty fourteen, twenty sixteen,
even twenty nineteen, the World Cup in China, I was there.

(30:17):
That was the last time I actually covered this team,
so I'm not there every day. But Joel Embiid could
have played for France, he could have played for his
native Cameroon. He chose the United States. I have to
think that there was a promise that probably going to
be our starting center, and they've played much better with
Anthony Davis at the five. But when you've secured this

(30:41):
commitment from Joel Embiid, I can just imagine they probably
don't want to move him to the bench. That's the
thing that everybody's asking and wondering, because Anthony Davis has
been fantastic, and again, to overcome the lack of continuity,
the United States has to do it on the defensive end,
and Tony Davis is just fantastic in this setting and

(31:05):
the way the Phoeba game is played. So you know,
I does that mean we will absolutely not see a
change in the starting lineup once the actual Olympics get going.
I mean, I guess we're gonna have to wait and see, right,
But again, just the newness of the team like this,
it's you know, they're really throwing this together and it's

(31:27):
harder than it looks, and there is an adjustment period
No matter how good these guys are, there is always
an adjustment period moving from the NBA game to the
FOEBA game, and it always takes longer than we on
the outside believe.

Speaker 3 (31:42):
All Right, his name is Mark Stein, one of the
best in the business Fox Sports Radio NBA Insideer. Check
out his podcast as a co host of this League
Uncut Mark. Thank you, my man, appreciate it.

Speaker 14 (31:53):
Sounds good, guys.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
Yep? All right?

Speaker 3 (31:55):
Is John Harbaugh setting Lamar Jackson up for failure?

Speaker 4 (31:59):
Is that?

Speaker 3 (32:00):
Is that the what he's trying to do here with
his comments? We'll talk about that all next and put
a nice bow on this bad boy. It is the
odd couple on a Magic City Monday, Rob Park along
with Martin Weiss in for Chris Bussard stick and stay.

Speaker 8 (32:16):
Unless you're a Ravens fan. In the US of.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
Oh Wow, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at
Foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search
FSR to listen live.

Speaker 3 (32:32):
All right, all right, please no singing on the radio.
This is a sports talk radio program, one of the
best in the nation, if I say so myself.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
It was in the talkback. All right, so it sounded
like you were singing on the air. It's a good song,
though it was in the talk back.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
It is the Odd Couple Fox Sports Radio on a
Magic City Monday, Rob Parker Martin, weis in for Chris Bussard,
coming to you live from the tire rack dot Com studios,
and shortly after the show, our podcast will be going up.
If you missed any of today's show, be sure to
check out the podcast. Just research or search, I should
say Odd Couple wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
Look, research it, search it, and't search it again.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
There you go, and be sure to also follow, rate
and review the podcast again. Just search Odd Couple wherever
you get your podcasts. And uh, you'll see today's show
posted right after we get off the air, because Rob
g is so good at it. He's on the way
walking out the door before the show's even over and
he's got it all posted. So we're gonna put a

(33:35):
bow on this Magic City Monday. So John Harbaugh, you
know he loves his quarterback, and.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
With good reason, right sure it does.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
But Martin, you're saying that Harbor is maybe writing an
awful big check that Lamar Jackson can't cash And let's
hear from John.

Speaker 16 (33:53):
Harbor first, a vision for Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 4 (33:55):
And it's a vision.

Speaker 16 (33:56):
It's something you see it like it's already happened. You
can see it like it's already been done. The victory
has already been won when you pour into a vision.
And the vision that we have together is that Lamar
Jackson is going to become and be known and be
recognized as the greatest quarterback ever to play in the
history of the National Football League. That's the vision, all right.

(34:18):
It's going to happen by Lamar his work, ethic and
his brilliant talent, by all of us pouring into that
effort together as a team, teamwork, and by the grace
of God and God's good will. That's how it's going
to happen. And I believe it like we've already seen.

Speaker 4 (34:38):
You know, a mouthful.

Speaker 7 (34:39):
I'm glad he brought up the grace of God in
God's goodwill because at this point it feels like it's
going to take divine intervention in knockoff Kansas City, Like
you can't be the greatest quarterback ever until you're the
greatest quarterback of your era. First, of all then we
can have a conversation of where you rank of all time.
But this is something that John Harball seems to do
when he, like we know he several times when he

(35:01):
he'll after a touchdown, he'll.

Speaker 4 (35:03):
Call Lamar over, you want to go for one? To
go for two?

Speaker 7 (35:05):
And let Lamar make the decision. As opposed to him
making the decision. I think he just has I mean,
it's hard to I stand up for him supporting his
quarterback and talking up his quarterback, but after a while,
I just think, Yo, you got to be the guy
that makes some of these decisions. You got to be
the guy that to temper some of these expectations. To

(35:26):
say that I had a dream last night. Essentially to me,
it's like, I don't know, John, it doesn't sit right
with me. Lamar's got to go out there and do it.

Speaker 12 (35:36):
Now.

Speaker 3 (35:37):
I think coach speak, people get caught up and then
you know they want to be glowing about somebody who
they were and I get it. And the other thing
too is I know that game plan was ridiculous against
the Chief. I don't even know what that was. But anyway,
Lamar has won two MVPs and only been not voted

(35:57):
MVP by one person in those two, you know what
I mean. So so there is some high praise that
belongs to Lamar. Would you agree with that he almost
had two? There's only been was it? Tom Brady was unanimous?
Is there only one before Lamar? Of course Lamar deserves
But I know it's just we got to keep a
little perspective here.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
But this is not going to be They're not going
to be objective.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
They're not going to be reasonable because it's their god
and want to be glowing, tell him how great he
is and all this stuff.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
It's just over the top. I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (36:29):
It sounds ridiculous, uh that that people go that route,
But this is a coach talking about one of his players,
and it's it's over the top.

Speaker 7 (36:39):
I just would have liked, you know, we got to
the AMC Championship Game last year, didn't finish how we'd like.
We were trying to get to the super Bowl and
have a better ending on the year. That'd have been
a great way to phrase it, you.

Speaker 4 (36:48):
Know, but that sounds logical. The greatest quarterback we've ever seen,
It's like, ah, I mean, come on, man, I get it.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
It's a big check for Lamar to cash, Big Time
Mart and Weiss. We appreciate you, thank you for stopping through.
Oh thanks for having me, no always, no doubt about it.
And uh eat from Salama I think is tomorrow he'll
be joining us here on the Odd Couple and Chris said,
all right, stay tuned for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon
