sure what you were gonna do. They didn't give it,
didn't give us the drop. Year we got through having
some technical start, all right. So now it's working. I
guess I just heard that. Yeah one more time. All right,
let's hear it one more time. Okay, I guess not,

(01:59):
I am at Chris Underscore Bruce Hard on Twitter and
Chris Bruce Hard sixty eight on Instagram. Mister Parker, how
you doing today? A big day, trade deadline day? Yes,
you pleased. I mean we're gonna get into it deeply,
but you know, wonderwhelm and it's just me. Oh that
I thing, it was just you was one blockbuster that
(02:19):
that obviously put a team over the top. And we'll
talk about that. But the astros, I mean, on paper, Chris,
they're the favorites. They weren't. They weren't the favorites before today,
you know what, but they were right there right you know,
they wanted the three or four best record. Don't get
me wrong, but clearly they're the favorites now by getting
Zach Granky from the from Arizona. So right, But the
(02:42):
day was good. Did a little herd, was able to
rip on the Bucky Brooks on the herd, So that
was a good day. Wait till you see Bucky. I
can't wait. I gotta see that. I got that. I
see him. I heard you were telling him up in
five schedule you on days he's not there. Yeah, you know,
I said to Coello and Jason. Yeah. Yeah, make sure
(03:04):
I'm not there when he's up there. I know he
played the NFL well. In about thirty minutes, we'll have
John Rossie of course from the MLB network, also a
Fox Sports Major League Baseball Insiders, so he will come
on to talk with us about this big trade deadline day.
Of course, as you said, the Astros getting it done, uh,
the Yankees and Dodgers not so much. So we will
(03:25):
get into all that. Rob, why don't you introduce the
crew though before we do something that's right. Wouldn't be
able to do this find radio program without him. Of course.
Rob g is our producer, usc Chris is our engineer
Alex with a day off or he worked earlier that
I should say. Brian Finley is our sports anchor. He's
at the anchor desk. He'll keep us updated throughout the program.
(03:47):
Manny is our intern and Cahari is also my personal intern.
So we're in full effect. That all on the other
side of the glass, Chris Bouchard, let's kick some ass.
All right, let's do just that, Rob and you said it. Look,
there was one huge move on this trade deadline day. Now,
(04:07):
a lot of people have been disappointed. You know, there's
some thought that Major League Baseball made the new rule
where you know, in the past, obviously you've had more
time to get players off waivers and things like that
past the deadline. This year, this is it. There's no
more improving your team from the outside. Now, this was
the deadline. You're going to war with who you got.
(04:29):
And so as a lot of people thought this was done,
you know, because obviously the NBA has had such a
huge offseason and in the last few years and stolen
a lot of thunder that way trade deadline stuff too,
and that Baseball was maybe trying to, you know, answer
that challenge. So some were disappointed you didn't see more
big moves, but as you said, you did see a
(04:52):
huge move. I gotta give the Houston Astro's major credit.
They go out and, as you said, get right hander
Zach Green from Arizona, and they already had robed arguably
the best pitching staff in the league, closer on the
top three, Justin Verlander, Jared Cole starting, and now you
(05:16):
add Grinky to that. He's gonna be your third starter
in the postseason. I love what the Astros did, and
if I'm a Yankees fan, I'm a little bit worry
because they did not a I agree, Chris, and this
is what I take from today. I agree with you
with the Astros. I love what they did. They went
(05:37):
out there trying to win. They won a couple of
years ago. What did they do with the trade deadline
back then? They got Justin Verlander? Okay, and if we
have no doubt, put them over the hunt, no question, absolutely,
And then they decide that they were in the hunt.
They're one of the top three four teams in the league.
They're going forward. Here's my problem. If you're a New
(06:00):
York Yankees fan, you should be outraged. What has happened
to the Yankees. I don't get it anymore. You know it.
It's a cliche, but for real, bring back George Steinbrenner.
This would have never happened, Chris. The Yankees haven't won
a World Series since two thousand and nine. They've had
(06:23):
good teams. Every time that comes down to the Yankees
having to go add somebody, they pass. They want to
hold onto their farm hands. They don't want to give
up their farm players. They've played this year with all
kinds of injuries, and all these young guys have come in, Chris.
They had the fewest losses in baseball, one of the
(06:43):
two best records the Dodgers and the Yankees. And the
Yankees refuse to go out and do what they need
to do. The old Yankees used to do that, The
George Steinbrenner Yankees used to say, what do we need
to do to make this happen? Stop it with being cheap,
stopping with not holding on the prospects. Prospects are to
(07:04):
be traded to get players who can help you. Now.
There is no four year plan, three year plan. It's
about now. You have to let the fewest losses in
Major League Baseball. You have a chance to win the
World Series. Why wouldn't you go out and get a
starter when everybody in MLB America knows new the Yankees
(07:26):
needed a starter. Luis Savareino that their aged pitcher who
they got heard who didn't even pitch all year. They're
hoping he comes back, Chris, But you can't bank on that. Yeah,
it's interesting, Rob. I mean, I think you had two
different approaches at this deadline. Now, let's throw this out there.
It was reported that Zach Granky had the Yankees on
(07:48):
his no trade list. He probably can't deal Granky probably
couldn't deal with the new year. He's a little quirky
ki guy, which is fine. But there were others out there.
There were others out there, no question about it. But
I said two approaches, because the Yankees did they Look,
they've been in the playoffs all but what like four
(08:10):
years in the last twenty five years or so. Unbelievable. Okay,
so they obviously there's a value And it's true that, Rob,
there is a value in being there every year even
if you don't win it. Right. The only problem here, Chris,
what's happened to them over the last few years is
they don't win the division, they win the wild card,
which only gives you a one game. You can get
(08:32):
beat in one game. Anybody can in one game, no question,
can happen even in seven. Right, and now they have
they have the best record in the Al East. They're
going to win the division. They had a chance because
of that and what the hitters and everything they have
to really make a run to the World Series this year.
(08:56):
And they still look they still got a shot. I'm
not saying that, but they needed a pitcher and they
swung and missed today. And they have prospects that teams won, Chris,
the Astros gave up four prospects today. Who cares about prospects.
The Astros are trying to win now twenty nineteen. No,
I'm with you and the Astros again. I give them
(09:16):
credit because they are going for it. As you said,
this could be two World Series in three years, right,
and they're going for it and more and more in
every sport, particularly football and baseball, basketball, because you know
that one superstar can have so much of an impact
is not quite as much, but certainly in football and baseball,
(09:38):
it's year in, year out period. This is a do
it this year type these sports. Now, get it done
this year. Like you said, there's no four or five
year playing. It's great to be good for five ten years,
but they're rare. That's rare nowadays. You have to try
to win it when you have a chance, and I'll
(10:00):
give you another one, Chris. As bad as the Yankees did,
the Dodgers did the same exact thing the Dodgers. At least,
the Yankees having won since two thousand and nine. The
Dodgers haven't won a World Series since nineteen eighty eight.
I know they've been there the last two years. They
lost both years and they refused to get a reliever,
which they need again. They don't want to part with
(10:22):
their farm system. They don't want to part with prospects,
which is outrageous to have a team as good as
the Dodgers are. Everybody knows what the bugga bull is.
It's in the bullpen, and they didn't do it. Why
are the Dodgers being cheap? Two years ago, when the
Astrols got Verlander, the Dodgers could have had him, Chris,
they didn't want to get They didn't want to pay
(10:44):
Verlander because he had two years left on his contract,
so they got them from who they get the just
lost my train of thought. The Dodgers picked up I
can't remember who they picked up that year, but yeah,
we knew they should have win for Verlander. Yeah, there's
no question about it. You Darvish. I'm sorry, I've just lost.
(11:05):
That didn't work out either, you Darvish. But they got you, Darvish.
You know why, Chris He didn't have any more years
left on his contract. So that was the big thing
you picked, and the Astros picked right right, same thing, Machado.
They got Machado. Why because there was nothing left on
his contract. That's why. That's what the Dodgers. They packed
Dodgers Stadium every night. They got a ton of money.
(11:27):
I don't get it. They have not won, especially when
a lot of so many of their great players are young. Yes,
not need the Yeah you may not need the prospects.
I mean as much as another team if these guys
were older. So I'm with you. Look, they both give
Houston credit. As I said, now, I don't think I
(11:48):
can just blame this on analytics, you know, where some
people may say, look, the analytics will tell you just
you know, keep your young guys. You know, in the
lower levels and your young prospects and all that. Maybe
they overvalue them, but Houston is into the analytics as
much as anybody. Yes, but they go they also win.
(12:08):
They went ahead and you know, got rid of some
of those prospects. I think they did the right thing.
But it kind of reminds me of in the NBA.
How with analytics becoming so prominent now, the value of
a first round pick or draft pick period is so
overvalued in the NBA, and some teams will not make
(12:30):
trades because they don't want to give up first round picks.
Or if a team does make a trade and gives
up so many of these picks, sometimes people think they're crazy.
Like the Clippers gave up five first round picks and
some people thought that was such a great haul for Okase.
Now I get it, it is a decent haul, but
(12:52):
I'd rather have Paul George. Absolutely, you know what I
mean that you don't most lottery picks in the NBA
don't pay out let alone a regular first round pick.
And could the same thing be happening in baseball round yep,
I totally agree. There's so much of this with the
young kids who Chris remember, not only the prospects. The
(13:14):
other thing is they don't cost that much, right, and
you have control over them for the first five or
six years of their career. That's what makes them even
more attractive. Instead of just saying we're the Dodgers, we
can pay this, we're trying to The Dodgers are trying
to go to the World Series for a third straighte time.
Can you imagine I'm gonna say it right here. If
(13:35):
they don't make the playoffs or lose and don't win
the World Series, and it's the bullpen. Remember today, Chris,
Remember today as a day the Dodgers said they weren't
serious about trying to win because this was the day
that they needed to add to their bullpen. Their bullpen
has been raggedy for the most part this year. And
they have everything else going from starting pitching, hitting, home
(13:59):
run hitting. They got everything. They didn't didn't address their need.
I'm not if they don't win it. It's like I
will say, this, Baseball is the most fickle sport of
all And they could have went out and gotten a
great bullpen edition and still not win the World See
I get that, and I guess they'll win it now,
(14:20):
you know, what I mean like, but I'm just saying, Chris,
I want you to remember this and I'll point it
out when it happens, and that bullpen when it doesn't work,
you'll go back and go. They never fixed it. I
watched it in Detroit. We're just talking about the Astros
top three starters and how great it is, Chris. One
year the Tigers went into the playoffs, they had Justin Burlander,
(14:43):
David Price, and m Max Scherzer and yeah, then and
they had Doug Fister and Annabell Central that was the rotation.
But the three guys I mentioned, they were the three
reigning Side Young Award winners in a row. They had
just won the award, and that's what happened. They got
swept in the playoffs body Orioles because the bullpen wasn't
(15:05):
good enough. Well, and speaking of that, I mean again,
hats off to the folks in Houston because not only
did they go ahead and get Grenky, they added two
guys to the bullpen. They go get Aaron Sanchez and
Joe bagon Be a genie as well. So I mean
(15:26):
they're going forward. Hats off to them. You know, we'll
see how it works out. But You certainly have to
give them credit for what they did today, and maybe
they just have more guts than these other teams are
looking the Yankees and Dodgers are having great seasons. They
are the two best teams. So with the astros, those
are the team can't kill them until it doesn't work out,
(15:48):
and we gotta rate to see if that happens. All right, Well,
the Yankees and the Dodgers end up regretting their decision
to stand pat at the deadline. You're turning the way
in Yankees Dodgers? Did they blow it? Eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six
sixty three sixty nine. We will continue the conversation with you.
(16:09):
Next is The Eye Couple Fox Sports Radio. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris
Brussar then Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
At Farmers Insurance, we know every windshield collision has a
unique sound. Beetle bird, boop, drone, seen it covered it?
(16:32):
Doctor Farmers. We are Farmers under written my Farmers Truck
Fire Insurance Exchanges and Affiliates products unavailable every state. All right,
it is the odd couple, Chris Brussar and Rob Parker
coming at you on a worship Wednesday, and we've got
great news for you. There's a quick and easy way
you could save money. Switch to Geico. It only takes
fifteen minutes to see if you can say fifteen percent
(16:54):
or more on your car insurance. Go to Geico dot
com and see how much you can save. All right,
Rob Parker is clearly in a boil over the Yankees
and the Dodgers not doing anything at the deadline and
letting the astro steal all the pictures out there are
the listeners as upset as you are, Ribbed. Let's see
(17:15):
eight seven, seven ninety nine on five. All right, let's
start with Rod and Carolina. You're on the odd couple.
Fox Sports Radio. What's up Road? What's going on? Parker?
Christmas saw? What's up? Man? What's happening? Brother man? I
just want to say this. I just want to say this,
Robut no baseball your sport. The Yankees ain't blow nothing, Rob.
(17:40):
The Yankees trying to get healthy. The Yankees, they got
all that slating and they just you know, they spit
all the money they need to spend. The Dodgers, who
blew the deadline because they were so much better than
the Red Sox. I think in the World Series, you know,
all right, but I are you with the Dodgers. I
(18:01):
think both of them. Both teams needed something. And if
you talk to all the baseball experts, everybody said, the
Yankees need to starter and the Dodgers need a reliever.
And here's the other thing, Rob and to the collar,
Rod rod Um the Yankees. We know they got the
hitting right, but hitting, let's face it, what gets it
(18:22):
done in the postseason is pitching, alway, what they always say, Chris,
good pitching, beach good hitting up time and time again,
no questions. That's that's that's not a bad point. Obviously
they're still in the hunt, but need pitching if you're
gonna win it in the postseason, right, they're trying to
win every once since two thousand and nine. That's the point.
(18:43):
Are they gonna be in it? Chris? They gonna make
the play? Yeah, I got it. They're gonna win the division. Yeah.
Jody in Atlanta, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up, Jody? Hey, how ya doing today?
What's happening? Man? Hey? Yeah, Man, So the Dodgers, I
think they mess them more than the Yankees. I really
agree with the last collar. I think the Yankees are
trying to get healthier. But the Braves, the Braves, we
(19:06):
added some relievers, but I think we need a closer. Man.
We should have got one of the hoss but I
really mister, would have got a closer. Yeah all right,
I mean I hear you. But the Braves have gone
out and made moves, Jody, if you're a Braves fan,
you should be happy with what they what they've been
able to do, because remember they went out and got
Kaiko Right, a starter. Yeah, when he became available, Chris Right,
(19:31):
and they got Green. They got Shane Green right from
didn't they get him from Detroit? He's he's the closer.
They got him, they Jody, they got the Shane Green. No,
that made closer would have been great, but you teloser.
He's the He was the Tiger's closer. You see a
team trying to make moves. Though, when you look at Atlanta, yes,
(19:53):
they got a young team, a low pay roll. Rob
g real quick. If you can find Shane Green's numbers,
he was good for the Tigers. He's a good closer.
So Atlanta did what they were supposed to do to
that today one one point one eight e r a star.
That's not enough for Jody. That's not enough, Jody. They
got the right guy. How about Michael and Denver. You're
(20:16):
in the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Michael?
How's it going? Fellas doing gross man Um? I just
wanted to kind of mention. I mean, I feel like
the guys in the front office kind of know what
they're doing. And I think if you have the chemistry
in the clubhouse and you have guys that you trust,
then I think that you're not gonna go out and
get somebody unless you can really have them fit in,
(20:37):
not only in a spot that you need him in,
but in your clubhouse as well. Michael get I get
the chemistry, don't get me wrong. But it's not as
if the Yankees have had good health. They've lost people,
but chances from their bullpen was heard, uh sevareno there? Ace?
Last year Chrissy started Game one of the playoffs for them, right,
(20:59):
He's been all year, so they've never replaced him. That's
all I'm saying is that they they should have been
able to get. The Yankees have plenty of resources, plenty
of farm hands to give up. You know what I
always say, Uh, prospects and farm hands are there, Chris,
so that you can make a trade for somebody who
can help me. Now, that's what they're there for, especially
(21:20):
in a sport like baseball, where you know, the hottest
prospects sometimes can bomb. Yes, it takes it. It's not
easy to make it a lot. It's not easy to predict. Yeah,
who's really gonna pay out and be be this great player,
no doubt about it. So all right, interesting? Interesting? So
so what do you think? I mean? I thought some
(21:42):
guys brought up some good points about the Yankees. I mean,
we remember they've been doing a lot of this with
a lot of injuries they have, so they feel like
they got some stuff coming back un once they get help, right,
But but sometimes you just can't bank on them. We
got another call. Let's get to Sean and Sacramento. You're
on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Sean,
was s fellows. Man, I'm loving the baseball topics today,
(22:03):
big Robe. Chris. So, my only thing is if you
just look at the way these these organizations have been
operating the last couple of years. This isn't really surprised
me that Houston's are the ones that swooped up the
pitching um. The Yankees have already said that they were
trying to keep it under the luxury tax this year,
and with all the arms are still coming back off
the ir or the I don't know what it is.
(22:23):
I R now you got it. Yeah, I mean they're
they're pretty well set for the for the for the
last the I L They're they're set for the last
quarter of the season. Um, Houston, man, I mean they
admitted they were taking with five six years ago. They
rebuilt that entire organization from from scratch, and now they're
just adding arms just to make another run at it.
I'm not surprised at all the ones that made the move.
(22:44):
Um and the Dodgers they need they needed a reliever
so bad and somebody to help close it out the
end of the year. I'm that's the team that I'm
shocking to make a move for Will Smith and the
Giants or from any other team, And that's the team.
You hit it right on the head. Thanks Shan for
the call. Chris will Smith was the target. He's with
the Giants. The giants with flirting with keeping, not trading
anybody because they made a run and they've been playing better.
(23:06):
But that's the guy. But you of you offer up
the right prospects, you could get will Smith all right? Well,
as you said, the Dodgers were close to landing that
reliever they needed at the deadline. Fox Sports MLB Insider
John Morosi will tell us what went wrong that's next.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker week days at seven
(23:26):
pm Eastern, four pm Pacific. Brian, it is The Eye
Couple Chris and Robert Company live from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios. It is easy to say fifteen percent
of more on your car insurance with Geico. Go to
Geico dot com or call eight hundred and nine four
seven Auto. The only hard party is figuring out which
way is easier. And we bring in the man from
(23:48):
MLB network. Also the Fox Sports MLB Insider is John
Morosi to break down all the trade deadline action. John.
Welcome to the US up, John, Chris brab I was
ever there, go on a happy trade deadline day to you.
It's another official holiday for me. I always look forward
to this day every year. And boy did we ever
get some pretty good action right at the very end
(24:09):
there with the Zach Grinky trade Houston, no doubt tell
me about that. I mean, I'd give Houston credit. John. Uh.
You know, this is a team that won a World
Series a couple of years ago, and they got Verlander
at that time, and now here they are getting a
Cy Young Award winning Zach Grinky to give them arguably
the best rotation headed into the playoffs. You like what
(24:31):
they did? I did, Rob, And really I think that
was it was a surprising move in some ways the Astros.
They had had some some difficult developments there with their
farm system here this year, with some prospects either through
injury or under performance. Forrest Whitley, one of them was
injured and didn't really pitch all that well this year,
(24:52):
and so I was really skeptical, Rob about the possibility
of this team making a big trade. And what had
to happen here was the Astros gave up a pitcher,
Corbyn Martin, who's actually recovering from Tommy John surgery right now.
In JB. Bukowskis as well. It was in the futures game.
They had a good creative with this deal. They had
to take on some money. So the combination of the
(25:12):
ability to get creative, to give up some guys that
maybe their value is a bit low, and to take
on the money allowed them to have access to Granky, who,
by the way, he did have a no trade cause
but reportedly it did not include the Astros, so they
were able to acquire him without any sort of permission
on Zach's part and then going the other way. The
Diamondbacks I think did a very good job that this
(25:34):
trade deadline season of just getting back some value, getting
a little bit younger, backfilling their rotation a little bit
by acquiring Michael Leak as well and Zach Gallen as
well from the from the modeling. So I think the
d Backs had a very very good trade deadline, very
productive one. But they wanted to cut their pair a
little bit. They did that and now Zak Granky guys.
He joined Justin Verlander and Garrett Cole and arguably one
(25:56):
of the best one two threes we have ever seen
that this is ranks right up there. We talked about
the Phillies is having the rotation of the ages earlier
this techache, Guys, this is as good of a rotation
potentially least one, two, three, as I can recall seeing
in my years covering baseball. Well to that point, John,
there was a lot to talk about the Yankees needing
a starter, the Dodgers needing to strengthen the bullpen. We
(26:19):
know the Dodgers made the move, they got Clark, Adam
Clark from Tampa Bay. But do you think these two
teams made mistakes by not getting what they needed, whereas
the Astros, you know, went ahead and not only added
the starter Granky, but some relievers as well. Yes, Chris's
a very good question. The answer is yes. I always
(26:39):
certainly reserve judgment as best I can until we have
all the facts on what the decision making process was
for these clubs. But at the end of the day,
these two teams this task offseason that they were able
to go back under the luxury tax threshold and get
themselves more payal flexibility to allow themselves to have expenditure
(27:00):
like today, the ability to go out there and add
pay roll. Whether it would be a Robbie Ray for
the Yankees or a Phelippe, a Vasquez with the Dodgers
out of the bullpen, and they did not make those moves.
And these are these are not you know, the circumstances, Chris,
I try to judge these teams on a bit of
a flapping scale. I don't hold the Rays to the
(27:22):
same standards of acquiring players adding payroll as I would
the Yankees and Dodgers. A fundamentally different business model, different brand,
different market, different everything. The expectations for the Dodgers and
the Yankees are to win the World Series, especially especially
for the Dodgers, a team that's made it now and
back to back years and loss and they have a
very clear weakness to me in their bullpen and they
(27:45):
have not addressed it. And Guys, Chris, I gotta tell you,
I was really surprised. And what happened was in the
last hour before the deadline, the Dodgers had scouted Chain
Green a lot from the Tigers, and in that last
hour Green went to the Braves and he would have
been the Dodgers fallback in terms of not being able
to get sleep their basket. The Tigers went ahead and
(28:07):
made the deal with the Braves that they got back
a pretty decent pitching prospect. There so no shame on
the Tiger's part, and that left the Dodgers without a
really good fallback option and they were scrambling now, I think,
and they just they just they should have done better,
Chris is the answer. Both teams should have done better.
But I think, especially the Dodgers if they have such
a clear need in the back of the bullpen. And
I'm afraid if Dodger fans listening right now, I'm afraid
(28:29):
they're going to regret not making that move. I totally agree.
I said that to Chris just a little while ago,
that when they don't get there or don't get knocked
out of the playoffs, and if the bullpen is the problem,
you'll look back on today and realize what the Dodgers did.
This is what I don't understand. Same thing with the
Yankees and Dodgers. Both both are healthy franchises, a ton
of money, and it always seems like they want to
(28:51):
play nickel and dime when it comes to it. They
don't want to part with with their farm hands. And
I get it some of these guys, but aren't they
those prospects and farm hands there so that you can
make a trade and add a piece when you have
a chance. Both of those teams had the two best
records in baseball right now. I don't unders why are
they being cheap? Why are the Yankees cheap? And why
(29:14):
are the Dodgers cheap? Well, it's a fair question, Rob.
I would say this. I wouldn't necessarily call them cheap
in my own view of things. I think what they're
doing is they're continuing to value their prospects in a
very literal way. There. I would not describe them this cheap,
but I do think they are being I would say
unnecessarily cautious about trading their prospects because the Dodgers, when
(29:41):
the organization is built up, I would say this, like,
if your organization is as strong and as stable as
you often portray it to be publicly about, Okay, we're
sound here, we do well skinning internationally, we developed players
well well. If you if you've done things the right
way and build your organization soundly with a good balance
to it, then you should be able to give up
(30:02):
two prospects. Yeah, and by the way, and by the way,
my argument is not that they should have given up
Gavin Lux who's their best prospects. So I think as
just be a star and really impact this team in
the second half. I'm saying they should have given up
basically their third and fourth best prospect. And when you're
the Los Angeles Dodgers and you've got all the resources
that you've got, and you've got a young team on
(30:24):
the field, you've got Bellinger for years and monthly for years,
I just I don't understand why they could not have
made this trade. There's when you've built your team as
well as they have, you don't have to worry about
party with one or two players because there's not going
to fundamentally change the sustainability of your organization. I think
sometimes Rob to your point, and I really think this
(30:45):
is a bit different. I think culturally the way that
that and because the farm systems creates a different dynamic
and prospects in general means something different in baseball they
do they do in basketball, for example. I just think
that that that too often, Robin Chris, you see baseball
teams playing the long game and playing to say, you
know what, I want to make the playoffs the next
five years. That's admirable, right, But personally, if I'm a fan,
(31:08):
I'd better make it twice and win it once and
then be out of it three times. I want that flag,
I want I want a championship t shirt if I'm
a fan. And I think that too often in baseball
they value the five division titles without winning the World
Series above actually winning the World Series, especially in New
York and Los Angeles, and they want that. They want,
they want the World Series. And the Dodgers haven't won
(31:30):
a World Series. It just might go on since nineteen
eighty eight. I know that they've been, I know John
they've been in the last two years. The fact they
haven't won one right, exactly and exactly. And I think
and I think that the one quick point to make
on the way that these valuations occur is that so
much of the analysis is done objectively but by computer programs.
(31:52):
And listen, analytics are great. They've had a lot of
understanding to the game. They've helped us make decisions. I'm
all for more information, but there's got to be a
human side these decisions. You can't simply plug and chug
in the computer. And it says, well, these prospects are
more valuable than a year and a half of this player.
When it's you've got another player at that position in
your farm system or on your major league club, you
(32:13):
have to consider the context of the team that you've got.
And the Dodgers have already a young catcher in the
major leagues of Will Smith. So yes, they probably should
have traded keeper Ruise today, and they probably should have
traded us to me because they've already got Walker Fueler
as their ace for the next five years or longer.
Because when you're the Dodgers, as you guys well know,
you've got the wherewith all designed players long term when
you want to. So it's it's just to me. I'm
(32:34):
with you guys on this. It was just it was
not the outcome that I would have wanted to see
at the Dodger fan if I was a Dodger fan.
And I just I think that we're gonna be still
talking about this. You guys call me back in October
and remember, play back to this interview, and if I'm wrong,
I'll admit it then. But I have a sneaky suspicion
the Dodgers are gonna wish they would have had to
pay baskets by the time they play in the World Series.
It's the eye couple joined by John Erosive, MLB Network
(32:57):
and Fox Sports. John last question, there was some feel
obviously this is a different rule this year. There will
be no more additions to teams, you know, signing players
off waivers in August and things like that. This is it.
This is a legit trade deadline. Now. Some people feel
like this was kind of put in place to you know,
(33:17):
compete with the NBA's offseason or trade deadline stuff where
they really dominate the headlines. First of all, is there
any truth to that? And secondly, if so, was this
year's deadline you know stuff a failure or did it
live up to what the MLB hoped for. There's a
great question, Chris. I think there's a couple of things.
(33:38):
Number one, I don't think it was necessarily designed to
make it more dramatic. I think that it was that
maybe help with a bit more clarity, and because the
August period always just confusing and you had to have
pass people through waivers before you could trade them, and
then that will let do a lot of confusion about
the player was just on trade waivers or if there
was outright waivers and explain it to everybody, and it
(34:01):
just I think in the age of social media, frankly,
it created a lot of distractions for a lot of teams,
a lot of players that no one really liked that much,
And so I think this is a little more clarity.
The commissioner has said that he prefers to not have
late season changes to your roster that really manipulate and
changed the overall feel of the postseason so late in
(34:24):
the season, So this gives a bit more integrity than
the season by having the heart the heart deadline, I
think that one thing you may see next year is
maybe they back it off a week or two just
to let those teams, especially with the second wildcard Chris,
to give a little bit more time. Maybe a team
like the Giants would have been a bit more active
that this year had the deadline been a bit of
a little bit later. But I think in general, most
(34:45):
teams knew where they stood. I think that if there
was a lack of activity at the deadline, it was
more because of what we just talked about about the
way that prospects are valued, much more so than a
lack of clarity about how good a team was. That
I think much more just the way the industry valued prospects.
And we see that, guys, we see them play out
in the off season two where trades just don't happen
(35:07):
because there's a lot of just the grinding back and
forth about how valuable this prospect is. It's I think that,
more than anything, guys, is the really unfortunate part of
the game right now. We're very very few gms want
to put themselves out there and frankly put their own
job security on the line to go for it. The
cautious path is the one that's now chosen, and I
think being bold is actually the one that is the
(35:29):
true new inefficiency if you will, that I think actually
gets you results in baseball today. John, thanks so much, man.
That's awesome stuff. Press there was a budge. I always
love talking to you guys. I remember being a press
box with both of course over the years a lot,
and I always enjoy talking to guys on the air
as well. Thank you, and we will bring you back
in October. If not so believe that a little look
(35:50):
forward to it. Thank you. Yeah see John, One NFC
team just putting the Dallas Cowboys in a very very
tough spot. We'll explain. Next is the a couple of

(36:14):
Chris Bussard and Rob Park on a worship Wednesday. Rob,
let's move on to them. NFL, We've been talking a
lot of Major League Baseball, but big deal for New
Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas can say didn't deserve
it to dude, is produced. He's caught more passes in
his first three years than any receiver in NFL. Right,
(36:37):
he needed to get paid, and he got picked. He's
a five, five year, one hundred million dollar contract. Sixty
sixty one is guaranteed. Right, This look not good news
for the Cowboys. Now you know why Amari Cooper is like, Yo,
I'm good. I'm playing on my little thirteen with thirteen
point six million dollars deal this last year, knowing he's
(36:59):
going to get it paid big time next next season,
assuming you know, assuming they have a big year this time.
And uh, I think this hurts the Cowboys even more.
You're gonna he's probably getting if he has a good
year and they go to the playoffs and make a
little noise. At least he's gonna get eighteen million at least.
(37:21):
I don't think he gets more than Thomas unless he
just has a phenomenal year. But he's getting eighteen nineteen
million a year, and that's gonna get what thirty. I
don't believe that's gonna get thirty. Well, I look, if
he know thirty, it's you know what I mean saying
you know that, right, I'm just saying I know what
(37:44):
the numbers should be and where it fits in. I
would I'll be the first one to say I'm totally wrong.
I thirty million dollars for a guy that they rank
as the third tier would be astronomical, would be unbelievable.
And I know he has a he has the Cowboys
over a barrel. Don't get me wrong. Now, I get it.
(38:04):
When you're fourth round driving choice, Chris and you went
to two or the three divisions, right, He's won more games,
Rob Look, I'm not saying he's Aaron Rodgers, but he's
won more games than any quarterbacks except Tom Brady since
he's been in the league. I totally get it. And
that's with Zeke missing six games for the suspension in
(38:26):
twenty seventeen. Think about that. Look, is he better than
Kirk Cousins. I'm asking you that. Whould you rather have neither?
But no, I know what I'm saying. No, I mean
Cousins is a better passer and all Cousins has had
better years numbers watch. Oh yeah, no doubt. But I
(38:47):
think he's a winner. And look how long it took
the Cowboys to replace Troy Aikman. You know, to find
a comparable to get So once you got a guy
that you know you can win with, either the greatest
quarterback in the league. No, but you know you can
win with him, you have to pay him to go
and rate. And I kind of think they need to
pay him now because what if they do get to
(39:10):
the conference championship game or to the super Bowl or
win it. No, I get thirty is not gonna be
the number. It's gonna be much higher. I'd pay him
thirty million with your money. I'm just telling you. I
wouldn't do it. If you were Jerry Jones, you what
would you do with that? I would play I'd have
to pay Zeke first, and then I'd have to make
(39:31):
a decision because I just yeah, I would just franchise
him a couple of years, hope that I can win
the championship without having to Chris put it all out
there on one, you know what I mean, and then
be stuck with them, Like, franchise him two years in
a row and take a look and hopefully you win
a championship in one of those two. OI poos me
wrong and he has a great year and he blossoms
into a full fledged quarterback, then I pay the guy. Well,
(39:54):
they could end up doing that with Zeke, although Zeke,
I think, is gonna if this, if they way horridball,
He's gonna demand a trade. He's gonna demand a trade,
and he may not be there for the franchise, all right.

League Baseball big trade deadline day. Houston really helped itself
(40:39):
and Houston they do not have a problem. The Yankees
have a problem. The Dodgers have a problem, and the
Cowboys got a problem too with New Orleans paying Michael
tom Is one hundred million dollars. So we talked about that.
But Rob, let's go to the NBA and all stick
(41:00):
with the theme. It seemed to work. Carmelo Anthony has
a problem. Nobody in the NBA seems the one ing.
I mean, he's desperately trying to get on the team.
Everyone week or so we see some type of video
emerge of him shooting jump shots ready to play, and
(41:25):
it's become sad. His trainer went on The Breakfast Club
recently and talked about how Mellow wants to play and
I'm gonna I'm gonna get back to that in a moment.
Damian Lillard, the Portland Trailblazer star, goes on Twitter and
says Melo deserves a farewell tour. Now getting back to
(41:50):
his trainer Chris Brickley I believe was his name. He
said that Mello just wants to get out there for
one more season and do what d Wade has and
have a farewell tour. So this Mellow's been quiet, right,
Melo hasn't been the one out there talking. He hasn't
(42:11):
really even been the one out there necessarily posting the videos.
He's done a few, but other guys have posted those.
But the people talking for him or not doing him
any favors. I mean at this notion that you know,
some team is gonna bring Mellow back for an eighty
two game farewell tour is ludicrous. First of all, the
(42:35):
only team it would it wouldn't even make sense for him.
But the only team that would logically even fit some
type of farewell tour for Melo would it be the
Denver Nuggets. That's where he started his career, That's where
it was at his best individually, although he had some
good individual years in New York. But for the most part,
New York was a catastrophe. You know, it got to
(42:59):
the second round of playoffs one time. Okay, in Denver
at least they made the playoffs every year one time
he got them to the Western Conference finals, and she
was a prolific s well, he was, he was the
best player. Chauncey clearly was the leader, no doubt about that.
That stirred the drink. Yeah, you're right, But even if
I'm Denver, there is no way. I mean, I gotta,
(43:22):
I gotta. I'm thinking championship now, don't. I don't think
they'll win it. But if I'm the Nuggets, I'm thinking
championship and I'm not bringing on a side show when
we didn't win a championship with Mellow even get to
the finals and have this farewell tour, and so any
team like Rob this notion that every great player gets
(43:44):
a farewell tour is ludicrous. I don't even Chris. Not
only ludicrous, how about comical the idea, seriously, that that
Mello was expecting some sort of farewell will farewell tour
while you're kidding from who you just said it, I
(44:05):
don't even get it. You're not even in the league.
You're antiquated. You turned into a dinosaur. You don't fit
what everybody's doing. You refused to conform. You know what happens, Chris,
when you refused you said it you said, and you
saw it in Detroit. I saw it with Alan Iver said.
They wanted Allen I have come off the bench, be
the number one guy right, have a freeway to shoot.
(44:29):
He could have been a Lou Williams or Jama. They
could have played another five or six years, play eighteen minutes,
put up twelve shots. Do you know what I mean, Chris,
They could have. He wouldn't do it. And you know what,
guys who don't want to do that, they wind up
fading away and they I get it. Everybody has an ego.
You were the man. Everybody who's in the NBA was
(44:51):
the man somewhere. They were everybody. Yep. So you can't
live like that. Grant Hill went to the bend. You
know what it got Grant Hill look where he is now,
to the Hall of Fame. When he was a big
star in college. Yea, he went to the bench. That
(45:11):
was his option. That or eventually out of the league. No,
I look, I'm with you, and I get it that
Carmelo Anthony was. I think he's a first ballot Hall
of Famer. I think some people disagree. You think first ballot, No,
I just really, I just don't, I really don't. And
I don't know if I'm just jaded from the end,
(45:32):
you know what I mean, don't get me wrong. And
I love I'll tell anybody this. His run in the
NCAA with Syracuse was as good as anybody I've ever seen, right,
I love eute. He won it. He was unbelievable. I
watched every minute of him. I thought he was sensational. Yea.
(45:53):
And remember it is the Basketball Hall of Fame, so
I get it. It's not the NBA, right, here's the
other things. And he's one goalie score? Yeah, and what's
he won? Three? I think, And he's the all time
leading scorer in USA basketball and all that, so I
think all of that works together. And I get it.
Why if you're at that level, I get you not
(46:14):
wanting to be a role player. You know, I couldn't
see Kobe Bryant, you know, being a fourteen point score
off the bench. But there's a difference. But here's a
difference or not. I know, Mellow's not Kobe Bryant, but
you know he still was because I couldn't have seen
Karl Malone doing that. But see the differences, And this
(46:35):
is where I think people like Mellow separated from other people.
You just mentioned a couple of guys. They all won championships. Right,
even when you talk about Karl Malone, say whatever you
want to never won a championship. Karl Malone's a second
all time leading score in the league, right, I mean
he's got cash. Do you know what? Mellow doesn't have
(46:56):
that Cashe as good of a score as he was,
great of a score as he was Chris, he doesn't
have that extra Casher. The idea that team would stop
and uh and recognize him at a game is just comical,
That's what it is. And his his trainer had said, Look,
(47:17):
Mellow's better than sixty to seventy percent of the player
I think he's had seventy percent of the players in
the league. I'm gonna say something, Rob, He's not that
far off. I this is not a question of Carmelo
Anthony being good enough to be in the NBA. But
due to the other thirty percent all getting uh their
(47:38):
final tours, everybody even ridiculous. Even Dwayne Wade was questionable. Right. Well,
Wade pushed at himself, right, he came up with the
whole jersey exchange thing, and that's really what kept it going.
I can hear here, correct me if I'm wrong, if
I'm missing somebody, Rob and this goes to Rob g
(48:00):
and all you guys as well. The only farewell tours
I remember in the NBA Doctor j Kareem, Abdul Jabbar,
Michael Jordan is last year in Washington, Kobe. I guess
Dirk a little bit. But Dirk didn't really want a
tour and it wasn't that much of a tour. And Wade,
and like you said, Wade was a bit self generating.
(48:26):
Let's go to the top four. I mentioned Doctor Jay, Kareem,
Michael Jordan, Kobe, Bryant, Melo's not in that group, right,
He's not in that class. Kevin Garnett didn't get a
farewell tour, right, There's plenty of great players who did.
So this stop it, stop it. And I said a
year ago Rob Carmelo Anthony should retire. I wasn't saying
(48:50):
it because he's not good enough to play in the nbause,
like I said, he is better than I would say
sixty percent of the players in the NBA, if not more.
But that's not the issue. The issue is fit and
because he doesn't want to accept a secondary role, a
bench players role like Alan Irison wouldn't then I'm not
(49:12):
fault team Mellow for that. But if you don't want
to accept that role, then there's nowhere for you in
the NBA today because the bad teams want to develop
their young players. See what young players can play. They
don't want to waste fifteen shots a game or Mellow,
even though he could still probably give him sixteen points
a game or something, and the right and the contenders,
(49:37):
if you know, he looked mellow, if he would accept
the role, Rob, I believe he could go to a
team like if the if, the Clippers, or you know,
some team of Philadelphia. If if he could would come
off the bench for twelve to fifteen minutes a night
and give him twelve points. I think those teams and
(49:58):
others could use that. But mentality is not there. And
he went to Houston. Do you remember he went on
how long he was there? A cup of coffee in
the sweet role, That's how long he was there. And
then I think the sweet role they yanked out of
his mouth right way through. He didn't even finish it.
I mean, he wasn't even there that long. He couldn't
(50:19):
fit in I mean they gave him a chance, and
he actually scored twenty eight and I think his second
to last game and seventeen another game like but it's
it's it's the fit. It's similar to DeMarcus Cousin. Now
he obviously in the league. He's much younger, but he's
the it's him too, Like nobody Cousins can go out
(50:41):
there and get you twenty four and eleven, But is
it going to help you win? And that's the thing. Look,
and here's the final point on mellow rob and this
is good for him. He's had a great career, a
full career. He played fifteen full seasons, sixteen if you
(51:03):
count the sweet roll in coffee right in Houston, that's
a career. Magic Johnson didn't play that long. Larry Bird
didn't play, Isaiah Thomas didn't right, Michael Jordan played fifteen
years total, like Melok. That's why I said retire. Save
yourself the embarrassment, the frustration, the exasperation of this, because
(51:26):
he doesn't deserve this. I'm glad you used the word
embarrassment because the longer it goals, it seems like that's
what it's turning into. And don't Sully your career, right,
don't do that on the way out. People remember you
at the end and like, oh, Mellow's kind of raggedy
the way this says, he's kind of pathetic. He's begging
to play and he's setting out his minions to tell people,
(51:48):
you know what I mean, like and it's a pity party.
I mean, I think Damian Lillard means well, but it
doesn't any negative feelings at all in what he did
with me. But that's pity. It sounds like pity, and
that's not the way you want to be remembered. This
guy should be a proud guy who was a national
champion and played on the Olympic team. He has golden
(52:10):
then you have two gold medals. I think Mellow three three,
he's like the most decorated basketball player in USA basketball.
He's okay, then, then don't go out that way. I
just don't think that's a good look. Nah, I'm with you,
I'm with you. And uh, look it's already been bad.
You know. Now even if he comes out and retires,
(52:32):
it's just gonna look like you were forced to. But uh,
that's really what he needs. Nobody's picking him up and
there's always talking about the Lakers, But again, that's pity.
If they do pick him up, it's because he's Lebron's boy,
and there's pity, and the fact that they haven't done
it already kind of shows you Lebron doesn't want him
on the team. If Lebron is serious about winning, seriously,
(52:55):
you can always take care of your boys and bring
you know what I mean, he doesn't fit. Here's other thing, Rob,
if Mellow were in again, if he went to a
team accepted being a role player, average twelve points a
game off the bench, and they won a title, I'd
be happy for him. I think it'd be great for him,
But that that's not changing your legacy. When we think
(53:19):
of Gary Payton, do we think of his time in
Seattle a little bit of Milwaukee, or do we think
of that championship he won in Miami? Do you even
most people don't even remember that he was on that
team that won it in two thousand and six and
actually played a significant role off the bench. I remember
more that he got roasted by Chauncey Billups in the
(53:41):
Lakers Piston series more show than winning a title during
the Miami Good point, right, good point, good point alions
old morning. Did that change his legacy? Doesn't? No, So
it look Mellow, I get it. You played basketball of
your life. Let's face it. He's been a star, probably
as he was ten years old, right, and it's hard.
(54:02):
I get it. I get it as a human being.
But he hopefully prepared himself for life. It looked like
he was preparing himself for life after basketball. But now
he's having a hard time giving it up. So you know,
it's just it's getting sad. So hopefully Mellow will figure
this out, all right. You're Turned Away in eight seven

It's going on Fellows Save our Sonics. Yeah, too late,

It was a great visit in Seattle. Every year. I'm

basketball team? Sorry? Really got a too long? Has it
been that many years? Especially? I know it makes it worse,
and I'm not trying to pour salt in the wound.
But the fact that Oksey, which was the old Sinics team,
(56:11):
the fact that they were so good right that had
to make it even Hey, I'll tell you what. They
didn't win one though, So that does my heart good,
right right right? All right, go ahead your thoughts on me.
So I agree with you guys on every single point,
except I don't think he would be a top thirty
forty percent guy in the league. I think he could
(56:33):
come in and be a top thirty percent scorer. But
he's always been a poor defender, not not because he's
a poor defender, but by choice. And now he's lost
a step in some vertical and I mean defense is
a big part of any championship. Look how well Harden
does in the regular season and then turned the playoffs.
It's a good point. Yeah, he'd be even worse defensive.
(56:54):
Now you're right, good, That is a good call. Damn.
Appreciate the call and the support. What about Kyle and Floor?
Are you on the odd couple? Fox Sports Radio? What
you got Kyle? Hey Nman, how are you doing tonight? Awesome?
May I also agree with you, guys, I don't think
he deserves a farewell tour. Um when you guys were
(57:15):
talking about other farewell tours. Jordan winner, winner, wherever he went,
he won. Carmelo won for the most part when he
was in Denver, and then when he got to New
York in classic you know Nick's fashion, it's dysfunctions. So yes,
he is an elite score everywhere that he went with
(57:36):
Team USA, at Syracuse, in Denver, in New York. But
when it comes to what he brought to franchises, he
didn't really bring all that much to franchises where where
he should get that sort of Michael Jordan, Dwayne Wade
type recognition from the league. Great player in the league
his whole career, but not on the level of the
(58:00):
guys like that brought up right, the only guys that
get tours they won. Yep, Kyle, thanks, no doubt about it.
Rob Gee, how do you is that? Oh? Rohan and
Cincinnati in the NATI. You're on the couple of Fox
Sports Radio. Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. Head
turn your radio down to hear a little interference in
(58:21):
the back. Oh sorry about that? About that? Is it
better now? Yeah? Yeah, go ahead, Okay. I think Carmelo
is a great player, but you guys remember what Draymond
Green said to Paul Pierce during that Warrior Slippers. You
know you thought you was told me, you just think
you deserve a farewell tour, Right, they don't love you
like that? He said, they don't love you like that.
(58:42):
I thought that was one of the best trash talking
lines I've heard. I think great players, like all time
great like Kobe, Dwayne Wade, Dirt, deserve farewell tours. But
Mellow is a Hall of Famer great player. But I
don't think we should be loosely thrown around all these
farewell tours. Everybody, right, it'll get ridiculous. It's a farewell tour.
(59:06):
Didn't rob. It becomes ridiculous because basically every really good
player is gonna get a tour. No, I agree with that.
I want to ask Rohan real quick. You know, Rohan ahead, Yeah,
I used to live over the four seventy one bridge
in South Care. You know what that is? Absolutely? Yeah.
Are you in Cincinnati? Now? Where are you? Yeah? I'm
in Cinnati right now. Big time Bengal fan, Red san
(59:29):
and Kobe fan. Because they don't have a basketball. I
got something. We got something for your Reds. A little later.
That's right. We saw that. That was incredible. We're gonna talk.
We're gonna take a bunch of Mike Tyson. Y'all sail
please thinks he's Mike Tyson. That was crazy? All right,
Marty in Kentucky, you're the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
(59:50):
What's up, Marty? What's up? Fail? I'll tell y'all doing
this worship Wednesday. We're good. What's going on with you? Marty?
I'm worried about you and I yell. I have to
yell the lot. It worked, sometimes it goes out, sometimes
it comes back. He's got back and forth with it.
But I'm wondering because he had the last couple of
times you've been struggling. Yeah, yeah, Um with Carmelo, I'm
(01:00:12):
gonna say, obviously, no farewell toward the guys that have
gotten that were elites. They that's actually even higher than
Hall of Fame. I mean, we're talking about guys that
wins championships, lead teams championships, guys that play hard all
the time on both sides of the ball. He's not
an in category, but if that guy, you know, because
(01:00:35):
he has a skill set that can be used in
a situation, you know, the guy can get buckets. If
somebody wants to play league league minimum or something to
come join the team and grab a ring. I'm not
hating on the dude, I mean, who who. I just
don't think Marty, I don't think you'll accept that role.
And also how much. While I think I think analytics
(01:00:55):
goes too far, there are a lot of teams that
are heavy analytical that don't value his range jump shooting.
And he's you know, so's the other part. Yeah, right now,
all right, Marty, thanks appreciate it. How about Tyson? You
got time? You have Tyson and Washington. You're on the
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Tyson? What's up? Guys?
(01:01:19):
Appreciate you having me on Big Fan. Thank you, Bud
you absolutely Hey, I don't I'm I'm with you, guys.
I don't think that he deserves a farewell tour. I
think it would be nice if Denver gave him like
a one day contract for their first ball game, something
at home, and then that was it. I mean, he
did some great things in Denver, does it. Does it
(01:01:41):
deserve a farewell tour? No, it would be nice to
give him a little something in Denver first game. I'm
with that. I'm with that, and it would first game
would be good because they got a real seasoned right
right right? You bring him out there. I mean, I
think he looks not this to me, this isn't even
a question. His jersey is gonna be retired in Denver.
(01:02:03):
So you know, I don't know if they want to
do it this soon, this early, but you know, maybe
you do something like that. No, that'd be nice for him.
That would probably be the best thing right there. Yep, yep,
all right, this man is everything LaVar Ball wishes he
could be. That's net. Fox Sports Radio has the best

(01:02:49):
way is easier. And we do have a special guest
on next. I don't know if is he ready, rob
G He's not okay, he's all right, all right, all right, um,
but we will We're gonna save the name on that. Uh.
He is someone that you could compare the LaVar ball,
but it's not LaVar ball. Yeah, so it's gonna be
(01:03:10):
a special treat to to talk to him. But uh. Anyway, Yeah,
with with Mellow Rob, I I just I just hope
that he can come to grips with the fact that
his career is over. Yeah, and as I as we
said a little earlier, be careful on your exit. You
(01:03:31):
don't want to make it too muddy, you know what
I mean, and muddle it off and have people look
at you sideways. Chris like, wow, what's wrong with mellow Oh, mellows,
that's kind of pathetic. He's grovelin. He's begging, he wants,
you know what I mean, Like, yeah, please don't go
out like that. He's too great. He's been a great score.
We talked about it in college and in the NBA.
(01:03:52):
There's no reason to go out like that. If things
don't work out. The things don't always end the way
you want them to work out. They really don't well
from most guys. I mean, here's the thing. A lot
of players have ended their careers like this. You know,
George Gervin went out averaging sixteen points a game with
the Chicago Bulls. You know, Alan Iverson, we talked about
(01:04:13):
how he went out, Tracy McGrady, it didn't go out,
you know, ceremoniously. Kevin Garnett was playing spot minutes. Now,
granted he was in Minnesota where his career started, but
you know, most more often than not, a lot of
superstars careers in like this. And Dominique Wilkins average five
points a game, playing like nine minutes a night in Orlando.
(01:04:36):
Oh you know, I mean, and that's a good comparison
to Carmelo Anthony. Same thing. I'll tell you one thing
is just a guy who covered a guy and who
was a big time player and whatnot. Patrick Ewan playing
in Orlando ro I mean seriously, Yeah, went to Seattle,
he was traded there from the Knicks, didn't play, it
(01:04:58):
didn't work out there, and then he goes to Orlando. Yeah, Orlando.
I just that's the point. It happens for a lot
of players. Now you look at Vince Carter now and
I think Vince's I mean, look, he wants to play,
he wants to get his couple million dollars. Hey, I'm
more power to him. But you and I've joked about it.
His career average is just plummeting deeper and deeper. Uh,
(01:05:21):
the more years he plays in averages seven points a game. Absolutely,
that's what I'm saying. That's that's the scary part is
that it does look bad. Yeah, yeah, so we'll see.
But uh, that class and I know you're not gonna
give him the pub he deserves. But think about that
great two thousand and three draft. Duane Wade gone, oh yeah,
(01:05:42):
Chris Bosh gone, Carmelo gone. Look who's still standing? Yep?
And then number one pick Lebron James give him props
and still won the same amount of championships as all
those guys in the last five years. Has it been
five years? Yeah? What was his last one? Twenty? No,
(01:06:03):
twenty sixteen was sixteen? Yeah, yeah, don't hate see it
was longer. No. I thought it was Laurel Graham to hate.
I thought this was twenty twenty one. No, I thought
it was five years. It's been three years. Wow, fools.
More than that, three years, I guess four years. But
it could be changing this year. It could be changing
(01:06:24):
this year. All right, we're going to get the dad
we've been telling you about on the line. It's here.
He is actually all right. I was gonna take a break,
but let's get to him. It is the dad of
Tobias Harris, but also the agent for Tobias Harris, his dad,
Terrell Harris, Terrell, how you doing? I'm good, Chris, How
(01:06:46):
are you doing good? What's happening? I gotta tell this
story now. Terrell is obviously a very good agent. He
got his son Tobias to five year, one hundred and
eighty million dollars deal the law artist in Philadelphia seventy
sixers history. And I don't know how long ago was it, Torell,
about six seven years ago you and I were having
(01:07:09):
dinner and or lunch, and we bet this was before
Tobias's first Max deal, right with Orlando, And you told
me he was gonna get be a Max player, and
I didn't. I doubted you. I was like, no way,
no way, christ Chris saw wrong? What touchet? We bet
(01:07:33):
we bet that uh, Tobias wouldn't get a Max contract,
and I had to buy you lunch. Congratulations, you've done
two Max deals obviously for him. Now talk about getting
the deal done with Philadelphia. Obviously some people thought Jimmy
Butler would be there, just talk about the whole situation
(01:07:53):
with Tobias and the Sixers. Well, you know how to
give all plenties to God. You know, Tobias healthy and
able to get a contract like this, But the Sixers organizations,
they was great. Eldon had a vision of the team
and when Tobias first came there, Elson told me from
the beginning, I'm giving Tobiders the back because he knew
(01:08:15):
that we would before we wanted um and so basically
and he says he wants to win a championship. And
it was kind of like we just kept that great
communications between both of us and you know the goal
of putting this team together to try to win the championship.
So it wasn't really that hard Um because Elson talk
(01:08:37):
about his word all the way through. When the season
was over with, he talked to me to twelve, We're
still on the same page. I'm still gonna give him
the MAC. But you know, being an agent and I
always know that you have to have levers. I just
made sure I had like over over seven teams that
that if for whatever reason, he didn't keep to his words.
(01:09:00):
I had other teams that was willing to give him
a max also. So pretty much the first day we
went there, he laid out dynamic plan uh about Tobias.
How he could you know really, uh, we could utilize
him more because they didn't really utilize him. When somebodys
came over February, they utilized him, but they didn't didn't
(01:09:23):
they didn't fully take up run a lot of plays
for him, right. He just kind of had to get
his on his own right right pretty much, and boys
didn't doing that all his whole career. Pretty much his
whole career, he's been Uh, the many teams didn't rate
been running play calls on him. He got everything on
his own. Uh. Probably Doc Rivers's brobably probably one of
(01:09:46):
the few coaches like that ran a little bit more
play calls for him because Black loved his game. The
doctor said, Yo, just do you just say Sam Cassell
was great that they got on this is your team,
just do you go. And so that that's why he
had a great year when he was with the Clippers
and then when he with the Philly it kind of
(01:10:08):
liked it was a he when he first got there,
he started being him. But then you know, he could
tell that they had other plans because they were stuck
on other guys trying to be the man. And so
Tobixis played the role that they're asked him to play
and took. But but that's for I mean, he wanted
(01:10:29):
to be there, he wanted this type of team. He
wants to win the championships. Who worked so hard for
it every day and he's so dedicated um as a
basketball player, you know, hun the court and off the court,
because he also feels his responsibility is to help out
disadvantaged kids in the community. And so it's a beautiful thing,
(01:10:49):
you know, being on the Philadelphia seven Sisters team. Let
me let me ask this question. I'm gonna ask you
to judge anybody else, their fathers and their kids or anything.
I'm just talking about you and your and your son.
And is there like a happy medium, Like you want
to what's best for your son, you want to be enthusiastic,
(01:11:12):
you want to be involved in all that. But is
there a place for a dad where you also have
to remember or remind yourself that it's his spotlight, it's
his shine. Do you know what I mean, a lot
of people want to live vicariously through their kids. How
do you how do you draw that line and balance?
Because I'm just you know, coming to this point. I
(01:11:33):
just don't remember hearing too much about you and and
you know all the other stuff that sometimes you hear
about other dads. How do you make that work? Well? Really, um,
it's not really about me. It's about my sons and
my daughters. And I have six kids and you know
all of that division want scholarships, So it's really all
(01:11:53):
about that. As for me and my wife you trying
to do, we just want to make us make sure
our kids are happy, and so we do a lot
of things in the background because this is their careers,
this is their spotlight. Um, you know I had my
spotlight when I was their age. You know, my wife
had her spotlight. So we've done that. So now as parents,
(01:12:14):
we just want to make sure that our kids are
happy and got them line because nobody want to see
your kids not happy. So so we just sit in
the background. We try to help them as much as
they can because we don't try to get into the
spotlight with them. It's because it's it's all about them
and go on. Also, my kids, they work so hard
(01:12:36):
at what they do, so you never want a parent
to come in and take the spotlight over them. Even
though some parents may think it's their kids like it
and it's cool, but honestly, they really don't like it
because they get they're wind up getting teas in school
somewhere another. You know, your father came up there and
(01:12:57):
he did all this crazy stuff and then they don't
like that because they had a point that they wanted
you to be proud of them and so but now
if you're in the spotlight with them, how that ever
gonna happen. So that's approach we always do. We just
like help our kids. At the end of the day.
We love to see the smiler of their shapes and
that's what it's all about. Uh, they're happy because you know,
(01:13:20):
you know, as parents, you don't never want to see
your kids unhappy and sad because that makes you sad.
So that's that's the kind of approach we take it
as it's The couple were joined by Terrell Harris, the
dad and the agent for Tobias Harris. Terrell, did you
see the videos of lebron Um James like Duncan in
(01:13:42):
the line with his son and his AU team and
kind of celebrating with you. Have you seen those? Yeah?
I seen that. Yeah, what's your take on that? Well, well,
it on depends where the game was play that you know,
in all the terms of the atmosphere the game, it's AU,
so it's not like you know, real high school basketball.
But you think about you be honest the referee to
(01:14:06):
really really some of them, but really tough. I coach,
are you? I have an AU program everything, so we're
having time? Are you a lot of times? Uh? Some
of the referees they didn't even allowed dunking and the
kid dunk. I think the referee gave me a technical file.
I told you no dunking, and make dunked anyway in
the warm up lines. They gave me a technical files
(01:14:27):
in the game, So it was really up to that
referee to like not allow that to happen. Um. And
it also like, I don't condemn Lebron. He do he
do what he wanted to do, is Lebron. But what
I'm saying it is an intimidation. If I was a
coach on the other side, and you know how I coach,
are you I wouldn't allow all that to happen, hey,
(01:14:48):
because it would in a way, it would intimidate my
players opponents. Right, Yeah, I hadn't thought about that point.
That's a good point. So I would like, hey, man,
he can't be doing that, and you know you need
to give him a check, you know, And I try
I would be doing I'm trying to like because I'm
trying to keep my kids. First of all, everybody probably
(01:15:08):
want to beat If I'm coaching Lebars here, I'm gonna
look at me as coaching him. I want to beat
them bad. But then a LeVar is sitting up here
as duncan our kids. My kids may be getting like,
oh wow, they may think they're playing against Lebar So
that's an intimidation factor. And other than that, I could
(01:15:30):
care less. But I'm looking at the win now. If
I'm sitting in the stand and he did that, I
thought that was pretty cool. You know, gets up there.
I don't think that. I thought that was cool him
being involved valld And but when people gotta understand it
is a confidence builder that Lebron shows up to the game.
He's engaged, he's high, he's bouncing, he's bouncing off the
(01:15:53):
guys running the court. That's a confidence builder for that team. Yeah,
and the other thing you were saying about the kids
being intimidated, all you have to do is tell them
that you were playing Lebron in the finals, and then
they realized they have a chance to win. Yeah, yeah,
you know, I love yeah, but I love myself. I
(01:16:18):
love parents. I love to see parents, you know, right
there with their kids, like I was there with my kids.
They're so beautiful. Even even if he jumped on the
court and whatever, don't really care. He's there, you know
what I mean. I guarantee he's there, and he's probably
helping a lot of kids, you know, from being a
kid to learn how to build a young man and
they're becoming a man. So I'm all, you know, that's
(01:16:41):
all fun. It's just you know, Lebron. It's just the
fathers that don't be with the kids when they need
to be the kids. That's the part, you know. And
so Lebron in a lot of ways, he's being there
for other kids who don't have fathers. Yeah, you know,
you look at it like that too. So I mean,
but great stuff. We appreciate the time and congratulations on
(01:17:04):
the great work with Tobias. Oh, thank you man. I
appreciate you, sac for having me, thanks for being all.
Appreciate it. One of the biggest winners of the NFL
offseason is back to being one of its biggest laughing stock.

The Raiders under John Gruden were beginning to drum up
a little Goodwill, had a decent draft, a lot of
(01:18:12):
people liked it. Uh, they weren't getting killed. Even though
I thought trading Khalil Mack was crazy, Amari Cooper crazy.
Both of those guys went elsewhere and did work. But anyway,
all the good will that John Gruden was starting to
earn or starting to get, it's a little bit out
(01:18:32):
of the window now because apparently he has given props
to Nate Peterman the football player. Here's the latest quote
we have from John Gruden. This Nate Peterman is growing
on me. What is that? Fucus might be it? Remember
(01:18:57):
Nate Peterman has played in four NFL games or started
four NFL game and that's fourteen interceptions, right? Is that
the number? Twelve? Twelve we'll touchdowns and twelve interceptions? How
do you do that? And how do you like that?
But Colin Kaepernick can't get in the league. Unbelievable. Come on, man,
(01:19:17):
and that's your boy, rob Ge? How you what you
got to say about that? If today was trash talking,
Tuesday would go bananas, there would go. I'd love to
hear you say that. Nate Peterman starting to grow on me.
Raiders fans beware, might not be a great year for
you guys. Peace be sure to catch live editions of
(01:19:40):
The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker weekdays
at seven pm Eastern, four pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the iHeartRadio app. It is The Eye Couple.
I'm Chris, He's Rob. We are coming to you live
from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could
save you fifteen percent or more on your car insurance.
(01:20:01):
Visit Geico dot com for a free rate quote. And
we are talking a lot of baseball today because it
was the trade deadline this afternoon, and the big news
wasn't a ton of movement. There's some significant movement, but
the big winner, at least from what it appears like
right now, the Houston Astros. They go out and bolster
(01:20:24):
what was already a tremendous starting rotation by trading for
Zach Granky and their two main competitors right now, I
guess for the World Series title. The Dodgers and the
Yankees didn't really do anything of significance, and so the
Astros on paper looked like the best team in Major
(01:20:45):
League Baseball right now. Rob Parker, no doubt about it. Chris.
That's where we were going into the trade deadline. Today,
you would say Yankees, Dodgers, Astros were the three best
teams in the league. One guy, one team added a
Saw Young Award winner, and the other two teams didn't
do it. Everybody before they said Yankees need a starter.
Everybody said Dodgers need a closer or a reliever, a
(01:21:09):
really good one, and neither one came out with what
they were looking for. And so that's why, on paper,
the Astros are the favorites to win the World Series.
They just wanted two years ago when they beat the Dodgers.
I thought the Dodgers were really the team that really
needed to solidify the team. Chris from this standpoint that
(01:21:31):
the Dodgers have been to the World Series the last
two years, having won a World Series since nineteen eighty eight,
and people were expecting them to make the move solidify
the bullpen and this year go back to the World
Series for a third year in a row and third
time being a charm and the Yankees having won since
two thousand and nine. So it's been a decade and
(01:21:54):
the time for the Yankees, that's a long time. And
the Yankees have right now the fewest losses. They don't
have the most wins, but they have the fewest losses
in the Major so they have the first tied with
the second best record in the league or whatever it is.
But people thought, add another close, add a starter to
(01:22:14):
that team that they have, and then get some more
of your pieces back from injuries, and the Yankees would
have a legit shot. I'm not saying that the Yankees
and Dodgers can't win, but when you look back and
if they falter at all in the playoffs, and it's
because the Dodgers bullpen can't get it done or Yankee
starter goes out and gets lit up in an inning
(01:22:36):
or two innings, Chris, you'll go back and go they
didn't do what they were supposed to do with the
trade deadline. So if I'm a Yankee fan or if
I'm a Dodger fan, I'm not happy today. I'm just
not yeah now. And they also the Astros went out
and volsted the bullpen a little bit. I mean, you,
Aaron Sanchez, Joe Be be a genie. How you feel
(01:22:59):
about those people? I mean, are they significant to you? Yeah?
They're not as significant as as Zach Quinky, but their
arms and you know what I mean, so they looked
at their situation and said we can add a couple
other people, and they did it. Um, I'm not if
you look at those three guys, obviously Greggy the guy
that's the prize that you say put them over the top.
(01:23:21):
So I like what they did. I love how aggressive
they are. We saw this Chris three years ago. Um,
when they got Verlander at the trade deadline, they were
willing to pick up Verlander's last two two years still
remaining on his contract. The Dodgers took you Darvish because
he didn't have any money, He didn't have any contract left,
(01:23:43):
so it was a rental player. Darvish faltered and and
Verlander pitched very well last year and has been and
got a contract extension this year. That's how much not
even were they happy with the two years. After the fact,
after they won, they gave him another contract. Well, that
is not all that's happening in baseball park last night
(01:24:05):
was the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates. I mean,
is this? Are they fighting each other every single time
they play just because their their play on the field
doesn't drum up any interest excitement? Is that the two
worst teams in the division, and they got the nerve
(01:24:26):
to every single time they see each other they want
to throw blows. Here here it is, Garrett is hot.
And now there's some serious chirping coming from the pirates.
Dug outum, and now Garrett's on his way to the
dugout and here we go. Oh Garrett goes in there
punch and this is not a good seed at all. Hey,
(01:24:46):
that was core to see of Fox Sports. Ohio, Chris.
But but Garrett, Chris, a mere Garrett, the picture for
the rads? Are you crazy? You're going over to the
vision to the opponents dug out five to one? You're
going by yourself, Rob. He took on like what seven
(01:25:07):
guys holding him at one point, and he's swinging. Luckily.
It's amazing how they can be in such close quarters.
Seven pirates, none of them hit him, and he's swinging
and doesn't hit anybody, Like I mean, a good thing.
These guys can't fight. But Garrett, I will give him
an a for his gumption and courage. But Chris, would
(01:25:30):
you have gone to the opposing dugout? Seriously? When it's
like I'm never in my life and watching baseball fifty
years seeing a player run sprint into the other dugout
and then it gets even worse. Though. How about David Bell,
the Sinison, a Rans manager. He's ejected the inning before
(01:25:51):
the eighth and somehow he comes I guess he was
in the clubhouse, right right, he comes running out of
the clubhouse. He doesn't remember any it's the Brook. Hey,
let me tell you something. He's gonna get it, because
once you get thrown out, you cannot come back out.
And he came back out and got involved in the fight.
He was on the on the ground wrestling with the
(01:26:14):
hitting coach from the Pirates, which was just absolutely crazy
and was ridiculous. Right, look I got and it was
trying to get at Clint Hurdle, the manager of the Pirates. Uh.
It just was a Donny Brook pere nine brawl, whatever
you want to call it. It was a little over
the top. I was surprised. I'm with you, a couple
of bad teams really going at it. And and here's
(01:26:36):
the thing, though, this goes back to April April. It's
it's basically August now. And because what was it Derek
Dietrich when he when he hit a home run, right
and he they the pirates thought he admired it a
little too much. You noticed an unwritten rule. Chris, this
(01:26:58):
is what you hate. This is what baseball players. I
gotta be winning you over. I'm just saying this all
started from a guy at mirin a home run too much, right,
and he gets thrown at and then they throw at
the pirates and it just keeps going on and on
and on, and this is what you have. And Rob,
(01:27:21):
I'm sorry I said it before I say it again.
Baseball players got to grow up. You can't be throwing
at a guy's head. And I know you like say
they throw at the meaty part of the buying no head.
I'm with you on that they head hunted yesterday. Well
I ain't right because you and a guy with a baseball,
you can do real damage, hurt somebody. Right, they're throwing
(01:27:42):
the ball one hundred miles an hour. That's not to
be played with. And people who head on should should
be in trump, should be suspended, thrown out of the game.
I'll never agree to head hunting. If you want to
throw somebody, hit him in the back or the buttocks
or the thigh, I'm okay with that, but that that
is akin to what that What in the NBA used
(01:28:05):
to be the hard foul right right, like a guy
just and granted, even in the NBA they would tend
to only do it when the other guy did something dirty.
But still, you know, a guy coming through the lane
and you just clock him. You're not even going for
the ball, not making a defensive play. You clocked him
in the lane and send a message. That's essentially what
you know, throwing at a guy is in baseball. But
(01:28:28):
the NBA has outlawed that. I mean, there was more
contact yesterday in that baseball game then they allow in
NFL practices nowadays. I mean, come on, like, Rob, it's
gotta stop you. I know you, mister pacifist, you don't
like hitting in the NFL. No, No, they have got
(01:28:50):
to stop this. If a guy stares a little too
long at a homer, if he takes a little too
long running around the basis, or god forbid, he sprints
around the base, say let it go. Strike him out
the next time. You don't have to hit him. You really,
If this bothers you, huh, I'm just this is what
(01:29:11):
bothers me, Rob. Why does the rest of society have
to change? Why in football, you can't tackle anymore. In basketball,
you can't have hard fouls. But in baseball it's the
same old thing as it was in nineteen forty three.
You can throw it guys, you can hit guys. There's
(01:29:31):
these unwritten rules. All the baseball players are the one
species in America that don't have to change. Why that's
what upsets me. I get it. I get it. I
don't have a problem with brushing people back with you
know what I mean, Chris, Like, this is a part
of it. I do get it. You don't want guys
(01:29:53):
to be feel comfortable in the box, so you want
to push him back. You want to make him a
little fearful. You're not trying to hurt it anybody. And
I don't have a big issue with it. I do
have an issue of people head hunt, but I like
the game the way it is. Let the let the
players police again. They well, I was bad. I mean,
(01:30:13):
and we've seen out Grant. We don't see him like
we used to in the seventies and eighties, But still
doesn't it feel like we've seen a few more Brench
clearing situations this year. I don't know what the number, right,
It just seems like it and maybe we are. Yeah
that that that people are still going at it. And
here's the other thing you just talked about it this
this goes back to April. Here we are almost all
(01:30:34):
gets first and this is what happens in baseball. They
do have a long memory. I can remember Chris nineteen
eighty six, Dallas Strawberry. It's a big home run against
the Red Sox in Game seven. And the pitcher whose
name escapes me right now, you know what he got,
you know how he got back at Strawberry. So remember
that's October. He hit Strawberry in a spring training game
(01:30:55):
in March the following year, the first time he saw him.
That was his fayback. And I bet you the first
words out of his mouth when they asked him why
hit him, was I gotta protect my team. I mean,
stop it. You know, Rob, you know, I know you're
gonna defend baseball. But you know, deep down inside it
(01:31:17):
is getting ridiculous. That last night was just that was
pretty surprised that I was at the sports bar. I
couldn't believe what I saw. I couldn't believe the uh
the no. I couldn't believe like that my big thing
was that for baseball fight, it was like it was
almost a serious more action than you normally see. So,
(01:31:38):
I mean, nobody connected believe it or not, but still
you're right. It was right. It was a real bra
and it was more action than you usually get in
the Mayweather fight. You know what I'm saying. That's true,
that's usually a defensive struggle. Very true. But the only
thing is, the only thing is I thought I just
thought it was crazy from from garatsh perspective to run
(01:32:01):
into the other. He's lucky. I thought that was crazy.
He could ask, he could have got his block knocked
off or been seriously hurt. When you got five or
six guys on you pulling you, you get pushed down
to the bottom of the pile. I've seen guys come
and he was a piece of picture. So you gotta
protect your shoulder. Well that's that's the point too. And
(01:32:22):
I'm gonna say this, Look, if if other sports were allowed,
like if football wasn't making these changes, if baseball, basketball
was hadn't made all these changes, I can't even stare
at the guy after dunking on him without getting the
te you know, if those sports were allowed to do
similar things. I'd be all right with it. I just
(01:32:44):
don't like the double standard when it comes to baseball,
and to be honest, hockey too. Got like, we let
up in freaking boxing hockey, right, but they've changed a
lot hockey. They've changed something to Chris and used to
be really really bad. I mean, they still let you fight.
But you know, right, I wouldn't have a problem if
all sports were left. You know, obviously you're not just
(01:33:06):
you know, want brawls all over the place. But I
just can't get along with baseball having this double standard
and just such immaturity when the rest of society has
to make all these change we got Rob g wants
to chart, man, what'd you're making that? Rob? Well, I
just think you guys are burying the lead. The lead
of this whole fight here is that, y'all. Y'all. Puig
(01:33:26):
was throwing hands for a team he didn't even play for.
He got traded in the middle of the game. He
had no idea he was traded yet, but he's like,
you know, I'm gonna go down swinging literally. But the
only thing is normally when the guys traded, they tap
him and say, go, yeah, you gotta come out the
game or you gotta go change and you know what
(01:33:47):
I mean, packing stuff up? You can been traded, God,
forbet he gets hurt, Right, he could have got hurt
and that a fight and that melee, and then he
wouldn't have been able to go to the Indian. So
he was traded, but he was still fighting like he
was a member of the Cincinnati All right, you're turned away.

let's see what the people think. Are they with you
and these unwritten rules? Are they with me? And progressive
(01:35:22):
and want change? Look at you? You're the progressive guy now,
huh eight seven ninety nine? Or Fox? Let's do that?
Nieman in Montana, you're on the odd couple Fox Sports Radio.
What you got, Nieman? Hey, what's up? Guys? Thanks for
having me on really quick. Um, I don't really have
an opinion one way or another, but I did have
(01:35:43):
a question. You guys are talking about hockey, and in
hockey they like to they let them fight it out
man on man on the ice. You know, it's just
one on one. So my question is, and I really
just want to know how you guys kind of feel
about this? What if they legalize that across all sports,
so that two men in baseball, the two men in football,
the two men in I don't know, tennighting. How would
(01:36:05):
you guys feel about that? Really? I mean, that's basically
making it another sport. Not doing that. Nobody, nobody came
to see these guys fight, stop it in baseball game
to get a good hot dog and a beard. That's
what they went for. The only people that really, well,
I shouldn't say it that way, but I did not
grow up a big hockey fan. What I liked about
(01:36:28):
hockey was the fighting. Well, but that's sad to stop it.
That's why for a long time they couldn't get a
national contract because of all that, the blood, all those guys, Chris.
If you remember as a kid watching they would have
close ups of the hockey players all their teeth busted out,
I mean, scars all over their face. I mean it
was gruesome. It wasn't a pretty picture. And then they
(01:36:51):
you know how hard it was to get them to
wear helmets, Chris, that hard puck flying around. Guys were
getting hurt. Yeah, right, we don't want to see we
don't want that. Justin In Minneso. Older, you're on the
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up Justin? Not much, gentlemen.
I always enjoy listening to you guys when I drive
to Semi for a looting every Wednesday and Friday. Listen
(01:37:12):
any thank you. We appreciate the support. Yeah, you're welcome.
So I like violence. I watched MMA, A big fan
of it. I like football, I like rugby, I like hockey.
But when I watch basketball at baseball, I'm not watching
it for the violence. I'm watching it for the sport.
But you know, if people get chippy once while, hey
that's sports. I mean, that's what kind of the way
(01:37:32):
males are. I'm not trying to be put it than that,
you know, spectrum, but we get hippy sometimes and hey man,
I'm gonna I'm gonna hit you with the ball. But
I think violence is getting a little too commonplace in baseball.
You know what, that's a good look, that's a good
confine with it. Like you say, as men, sometimes, you know,
playing in a competitive sports, saying at chippy Chippy's different. Yeah,
(01:37:52):
sometimes that's gonna happen. But I'm just saying it's happening
for little things in baseball. Now, the guy jog too
around the bases after home run. That can't be what
set you off, you know what I mean? Right, right right?
I mean, but some guys jentlement happens. It's all right,
But yeah, it can't be just minor stuff like that.
(01:38:14):
What a bunny? What about Jabril in Atlanta? My man?
What's happening? You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Yeah,
what's going on? How you what's up? Man? Yea? I
like it. I like the little unread because I mean,
beside this baseball kind of boring. I mean, he was
one of the most boring sports. You know, so like
(01:38:35):
little stuff like that when it when they do kick in,
you know, add like kind of a different element to
the sport. That's the point I was walking. But that's
the point I was making when I said, when I
said I was growing up, didn't didn't rod hockey. But
I like the fighting. If you don't like the sport,
you might like what we saw last night, but you don't.
(01:38:59):
Baseball doesn't want people tuning in just fight. I mean,
it's just like it's just it's just like you ready,
Chris the other one that you used to always be
was the auto racing. You want to see the car crash,
you know what I mean? Like that, that's the one
that people Oh yeah, I don't like auto racing, but
when they crashed, Oh yeah, I want to see the crashing.
I want to see the fire, and I want to
see the guy jump out of the Uh what a
(01:39:21):
behalf on fire? I mean, come on, that's not what
the sport is supposed to be about. Yeah, And I
gotta be honest, I think if that guy's staring at
a home run, a bat flip, a slow jog around
the basis, or sprint around the basis, I think all
that would make it more exciting. And if it really
(01:39:41):
ticks off the opposing picture, then maybe, you know, the
next matchup, he's trying to strike the guy out. That's
exciting versus hitting the guy. So I I you know,
I just think they gotta let some of this stuff go. Yeah,
I mean, baseball's hard to change, and you know, the
so many traditions and the way things have gone for
(01:40:02):
a long time. I hear you, Chris, but it's gonna
be a slow moving dinosaur because it's just hard for
people to get out of what they're used to doing.
And you know, we we you know, baseball had the
slogan this year, Chris, or was it last year about
let the kids play? Remember the whole thing. People were
mad at King's let the kids fight? Right, Yeah, there
you go. Remember people were mad at Ken Griffe Junior,
(01:40:24):
one of the greatest players we ever played, because he
wars half backwards, not in the game, Chris, during batting practice.
And I always thought that they should have put his
his bust in the Hall of Fame with his hat
on backwards, but they wouldn't do it. I thought that
would have been That would have been novel because that's
what Junior was known for. Yeah, and a lot of
guys were to have bad He could change it. Now
(01:40:47):
he's trying to do some severe penalties. But if you
make severe penalties, it's gonna change, No, I agree. Once
you start taking money, expensions, you know what I mean,
unpaid all that stuff, it'll change, no doubt about it.
All Right, get the fire department on stand by our
Fox Moors Radio studio teammate, Chris Plank. He's a rookie rob.
(01:41:13):
He joins the hot seat next. But we're gonna have
to make him walk the plank. Yeah, he's in trouble.
He doesn't know what he's in for. Let's go to
Brian Finley for West Trend and Brian, Hey, what's going on, guys?
Chris planks Oklahoma Sooners losing to UCLA this season. I'm
predicting it, but I move on. Yeah, how about that?
It is a heck. I'm the Astros guys poach Zack
(01:41:35):
Grinky from the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline. Grinky teaming
up with a bitching rotation featuring Garrett Cole and Justin Verlander.
That is just spectacular, not even fair, but not one
of them. On the hill for Houston tonight and it's showing.
Indians are in front six four against the Astro's top
of the sixth. Then in Carlos Santana a three run,
go ahead home run in the fifth. The Twins are
(01:41:58):
sand blasting the Marlins. It's seven nothing top of the
eighth inning. Minnesota has clocked three home runs. The Giants
all over the Phillies five nothing bottom of the seven,
three home runs for San Francisco in the sixth. The
Rays are spanking the Red Sox top of the six
Austin Meadows a three run home run in the second inning.
Rick Porcello, who gave up six runs on nine hits

in five and two thirds innings at a temper tantrum
in the dugout he punched out two dugout TVs and

(01:43:23):
part is figuring out which way is easier. Folks. It's
time for the hot seat. The current temperature, the Odd
Couple are making it hot in here, damn hot. Time
to sit your butt down in the hot seat, all right,
Chris Plank. He is the co host of the Chris
(01:43:46):
Plank and Arnie Spanners Show, spanning your show right here
on Fox Sports Radio every Sunday night, eight to eleven
pm Pacific time. And I guess, Chris, you know Arnie's
been on the show what twice? I think the hot seat. Yeah,
he's been in third degree. Yeah he's been. He's beef
treated him really badly. I guess he's sent Chris here
(01:44:07):
because he was done taking the beatings. Chris, nothing personal,
but this is gonna get ugly. We're just letting you know. Well,
here's the hard part for me tonight, guys, is whenever
I started to kind of lay out what I thought
we should fight about. Tonight, I realized I've been agreeing
way too much with Chris Brussard. Oh I tried. I
tried to fight everything that I could disagree with him on.
(01:44:29):
So let's get after it. Let's see if we're doing
take care of these third degree burns well right now
until long after this beating, I think you'll change your mind.
All right, guys, gee, let's do it. That's right, you
know all this segment works. Mister Plank has three very
hot takes that he's ready to defend against the tag
(01:44:50):
team champions, the couple Chris B. Sorr, Rob Parker. Let's
get right to it. Topic number one. Chris Plank says
that the Clemson Alabama i'm a dominant we've seen in
college football the last few years is actually a good
thing for the sport. Blank you got thirty seconds that
your case. We love greatness. That's what we love in
sports period. We watch because we want to see greatness.
(01:45:13):
And what we're seeing in this round right now with
Dabbo Sweeney and Nick Saban, while it's probably not good
for their conferences as a whole, I think we're seeing
greatness next year at the NFL Draft, we're gonna see
another boatload of Alabama and Clemson players going in the
first and second round. That's what we're seeing, the best
of the best. Georgia's getting close. I think LSU's knocking
on the door. Oklahoma, Ohio State right there. But this
(01:45:36):
is great because we're seeing the best of the best. Guys. Stop,
you destroy your own argument within your argument. First of all,
you say it's bad for the conferences they're in, but
it's good for the rest of the nation. It can't be.
It's either bad for all or good for all, So
it's bad for all. Out of your own mouth, venue
(01:45:57):
pub Georgia's close, LSU's close. You're right. I want more
teams clothes. I want Ohio State clos I want Michigan clothes.
I won't know they're dame close. There are one hundred
and thirty Division one FBS teams. I don't want just
two varsity and one hundred and twenty eight JV So
I get to count it here, right, Yes, you couldn't
(01:46:18):
care less about who's the good team in the I
don't even know what are the divisions anymore. In the
NBA A Conference is relevant to what's fun in college football,
as I don't know the NBA's Atlantic Division in the
Eastern Conference. Good is good. It doesn't matter the depth
of a conference. And by the way, they don't even
play everyone in their conference. Georgia and Alabama haven't played
(01:46:41):
in the regular season since two thousand and eleven, so
I don't even know why conferences matter. Good is good,
regardless of what happens within your conference. Competition is the
reason why we care. And don't forget this, mister Plank.
There are teams that are dominated. The Warriors have dominated.
(01:47:02):
The NBA TV ratings went down. People have fatigue after
a while. We know the end of the story already there.
We want a suspense. When the Celtics were winning all
that championships, guess what, there were attendants went down. In
the fifties, when the Yankees went to the World Series
eight out of ten years, guess what. Then, attendance went down.
You know why, because everybody had already seen the win.
(01:47:24):
It wasn't special, all right, a couple of haymakers being
thrown in that round. But you know what, only one
of these guys is a college football expert. That is
terrible all right, round number two. It is the hot
seat the Akaba Fox Sports Radio. Our Fox Sports Radio teammate,
(01:47:47):
Chris Plank is sitting in the hot seat with the guys.
Topic number two, sticking with college football. Chris Plank lives
in Big Twelve country. You know what he says, The
Big Twelve will be the best conference in college football
next season. Plank, you got thirty seconds, stay your case. Okay,
this isn't one that I'm necessarily hot seats sold on,
but I'm gonna sell it anyway because you don't necessarily
(01:48:08):
have to believe it. You just gotta sell it. Well.
So here you go, from top to bottom, how do
you determine the greatness of a conference? Do you say, well,
it's about championships. Okay, well I'm gonna lose because the
ACC and the SEC have the titles. But from top
to bottom, rob you want good teams, you get him.
You want good talented players, names like Brock Purty, names
like Jalen Hurts, who had to come to Oklahoma to
get some real quarterback coaching so he could elevate at
(01:48:30):
the next level. From top to bottom with Sam ellen
Ger at Texas, with what Gary Patterson's doing. Big twelve
is gonna be fire this year. Guys, what are you crying?
Is he five is ridiculous? Absolutely ludicrous? Have you heard
of the SEC? Have you heard of Georgia? How about
the upstart Kentucky Wildcats? Now Florida, LSU, Alabama. I'll even
(01:48:54):
throw in Texas, A and M. There is no and
in the Big Ten. Hate on it if you will,
but it will be better than the Big twelve as well.
There is no way you start off. You said yourself,
you're not sold on it, and you definitely didn't sell
me on the Big ten being strong. Oh my god,
you brought up the Big Ten. They haven't scored a
touchdown in a playoff game since twenty fourteen. Come on, Chris,
(01:49:17):
you're better than that. And what happened to George in
their last game? They got destroyed by Texas? And what
happens to most teams when they fall behind twenty eight
to zip to Alabama? They lose fifty six to zero. Yeah,
I know it was a fight, It was a dog fight.
And all Georgia they didn't have the care you use. Kentucky. Kentucky,
they have one good season and suddenly we're elevating them
into the elite. Stop it from top to bottom. If
(01:49:40):
you look at the depth what you're getting in the
Big Twelve, especially that Texas Longhorn team and Tom Herman
Longhorns are back sooners are back. Beware of what Matt
Role and Matt Campbell are building. Guys. They're a sleeping
giant in the college football world. Stop it, Chris, what
are you talking about? I'm with Chris Brussardia. The SEC
is the conference that you want, starting with Alabama. Can
(01:50:04):
we just talk about Alabama and what they've been able
to do and the players that have come through, and
the championships and the moments that we've watched over and
over and over. It is the best brand of college football.
Stop with the Big Twelve. You can't even convince yourself
that the Big Twelve is worthy. This is some concocted
(01:50:24):
idea that you're trying to feed to us, because you know,
deep down it ain't legit, you know what I mean.
Plank has some good points, but when he starts off
by saying, I'm not really sold on this one, it's
kind of hard to win. Round number two goes to
the eye. Come no, I gave like five topics and
they're like, they don't want any of those, So I
(01:50:44):
had to throw one out there. That was a hot take. Chance,
Why are you trying to peel back the curtain points
away from playing? It's now one time you remember the
Wizard of Oz. Pay no attention to that man behind
the curtain. All right, here we go, last round again.
Chris Plank in the high with the our couple, the
hottest take of them all. But you know what, Chris
Blakes a smart man. He's like, I've got enough of
(01:51:06):
going on two on one. Let's put Chris Broussard in
the hot seat. Because Chris says that you know what
Halloween's coming up, and I'd like to see it get
moved to a Saturday instead of on October thirty. First
seeb you got thirty seconds, stay your case. Halloween is
for the kids, the school kids, and as it is,
a lot of them have after school studies. They got
(01:51:28):
to do their homework, or they have football practice, you know, volleyball,
soccer in the fall, all that stuff. They get home,
we can't even get them out of the house to
go trigger tree until the six seven o'clock. Then I
got like an hour. I gotta put them to bed.
They're little kids, so let's make it on a Saturday.
They have all night, they can stay out a little
(01:51:48):
bit later. Nobody's rushed. It's just more leisurely. It would
make Halloween so much better if it's on a Saturday.
Oh oh, I want to agree with you so badly,
but I'm in this debate, so I've got to take
this other side. The thirty first is a thirty first.
Next thing you know you're gonna tell me. Listen, super
Bowl Sunday needs to be on a Saturday. Christmas needs
(01:52:09):
to be off. The twenty fifth October thirty first is
Halloween period. We don't start shifting days just to fit
our social calendar. It would be great to always have
Christmas on a Sunday, to always have Super Bowl Sunday,
which I consider holiday jents, on a Saturday, so we
can Kira hangovers on Sunday. The thirty firsts Halloween. I
(01:52:30):
don't need a petition with sixty thousand signatures telling me
to move it. Here's what you're missing, Chris. No matter
what day of the week Christmas is on, it's a holiday.
If it's a Tuesday, we're off. If it's a Thursday,
we're off. If it's a Saturday, we're off. It doesn't matter.
Same thing for Thanksgiving. The super Bowl is always on
a Sunday. We're off. Period. That's the difference. Hallow. If
(01:52:54):
we were off every thirty October thirty first, I'd be
with you, but we're not. The kids need rest. Make
it on a Saturday. Every day. Every Halloween is an
off day. That's how it should be. We can't every kids,
Chris Broussard, the softer, kindler, gentler. Everything has to be
in a bow, and that has to be done the
(01:53:16):
way that we wanted. That's not how it works, Chris.
And you know what most people on Halloween or at work,
everything is supposed to be in the afternoon or evening
when people come home. You have high school basketball games
that played during the week everything's not on the weekend.
Parents have other things to do on the weekend. Dude,
(01:53:36):
whatever day that is, it's a one day a year
that you come home, get your homework done early, go out,
shook a treaty for an hour, and go home. I
know I won that one. That was a very spirited debate.
School basketball kids are ten years old, and let me
tell you, as a soon to be father, I would
love to have Halloween be on a Saturday. Round three
(01:53:57):
goes to Christmas awful. Hey, there you go, bringing me
Chris Flank. Listen to this, Chris, this is awful, Chris Plank,
this is my same music. That's unbelievable. We try to
hear is it every week? No? I don't hear it everywhere?
The champ is here. The Champ is here, Chris Blank.
(01:54:18):
Great job. The song is not talking about you. Excellent job,
a lot of fun and fought valiantly. Your scoring is
so awful. I'm gonna tell you when Christmas comes, I'm
gonna say that it was a Saturday and I forgot
to get you a gift. That No, Chris, great job
(01:54:39):
him on the eye or in the hot seat anytime.
Thank you, appreciate you. Guys, we said, hello, Oh, he's
afraid he's got burnt. All right. We have exclusive audio

We know the sound of a perfect hot air balloon
landing and a Leston perfect one. Seen it covered it.

(01:55:24):
took fire insurance exchanges and affiliates products unavailable every state.
All artists. The I couple Chris Brussar and Rob Parker
on a worship Wednesday, were wrapping it up one last
segment and the music is going to continue because a
friend of the show, just a listener. He loved the
show so much that he actually created a theme song
(01:55:47):
for the show. His name is William Thompson. Correct correct Chris.
All right, he's a rapper, and we're gonna play the
song for you guys, and then we're gonna talk a
little bit about it. So let's hear it. Turn your
ballume up, listen for a while. Don't turn that down,
(01:56:10):
no way, no how. Couples one, we got all the
sports news from the dollar throwing guy to the guy
from the cues. Ones happenedly Mary one that is no
longer ones got drawn as the ones. A reporter said
it once said it. Chris had to put it in
the run that this is the DESO greatest show of
all time. All right there it is? Hey, I like
(01:56:32):
the way that ended. Especially William is in the studio
right he sure is William Thompson from Cleveland, Chris Brush,
Are you from Cleveland with an account who does music
on the side? What's up? Hey? What's happening fellas? Hey? Man?
Thank you for that? Those bars? And uh? I like that? Man?
Where'd you go to high school in Cleveland? Actually went
(01:56:53):
to high school in Akron and booked on Oh wow? Yeah, yeah,
that's where Lebron would have win if he didn't go
to the Catholic school sav Yeah. Yeah yeah. And an
athlete there, No, I did. I played football in middle school,
but we moved around so much I didn't really get
to stay into it. So Booked will have some great
football teams when I covered the Akron area. But he's
(01:57:15):
an account by day and does music on the side.
He's known musically as mister Happy. Why do they call
you mister Happy? Because I'm smiling on the time all
the time. Life is good for you. You're like a
Will Smith type rapper. Yeah, yeah, you're here a little here,
hurt a little of that in there. Rob. This is William.
This has given me an idea, and Rob, I want
(01:57:37):
to see how you think think about it. I think
we should throw out a challenge to the listeners for
the month of August. Yeah, so the month of August,
come up with a theme song from the show. Now,
I love hip hop, but it doesn't have to be
hip hop. If you if you're a rapper, put it
over a beat, it could be a rap song. I
think it could be anything. We like theme songs. If
(01:57:57):
you do something over the Golden Girls theme song, whatever, yeah,
heavy metal, whatever type of music you want to make
it make write it about the odd couple and uh,
you never we might play it on their show if
we like it, he would become a theme song, never know.
So yeah, that's a good idea, Chris, I like that
for the month of August. And so you know, hit
(01:58:18):
us up on our social you'll be able to send
it to us and we'll take a look at it.
So William, you just set the ball for a lot
of people that Rob g Yeah, houses have anything that
you want to submit, you can either DM it directly
to me at the producer R g on Instagram and
on Twitter, or you can tweet the guys and I'm
sure one of them will send it to me directly
as well. All Right, so I'm looking forward to that.
(01:58:40):
Let's play it one more time. I'd like to hear
it again. Can we do that? Uh? Usc Crystal fired
up again. Let's hear one more time. We got a
little time. Turn your ball you up, listen for while.
Don't turn that down, No way, no how. A couple
fs one. We got all the sports news from the
(01:59:02):
dollar Throwe guy to the guy from the cues. Ones
happen leave Mary one that is no longer ones got
drawn as the ones. A reporter said it once said it.
Chris had to put it in the rhyme that this
is the greatest show of all time soap. I like that.
You like that? Yeah, hey, William, great job. Now you're
(01:59:23):
not DJ Premier on the Beats. Um it's not bad,
but you know you're not. You're not doctor Dre. You're
talking to Chris. He's an old school hip hop one.
If he wasn't, if he wasn't he if he wasn't
old school, but if he wasn't, if you weren't a
sports writer, Chris Broadcaster, you be doing it. You're Ryan Drake.
(01:59:43):
I would have been like that. The only thing you
got a comment with Drake is that you both a
light skin. That's about all. Hey. I can tell William
is old school from your rhyme style, right, your old school? Yeah, yeah,
a little bit of both. I listen to everything. Yeah,
school school. You got an old school flow. But it
was nice, man, I really do. We appreciate Thank you
so much, great man, absolutely well appreciate it, all right.
(02:00:07):
So we threw it out to you guys. Any of
you that are musically inclined, or you might know a
friend that's musically inclined, have them create a theme song
for the Odd Couple hip hop heavy metal TV theme show.
Whatever you want to do, and you might get on
the ide Couple show. It might become a regular song
on the show. That's right. You never know. All right,
(02:00:28):
we'll check you guys out tomorrow. Pass
