So keep it locked here for the next three hours
on Fox Sports Radio, the iHeartRadio app, or Serious XM
channel eighty three. However, you may be listening Eve from Salam,
friend of the show, joining.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
Us at the bottom of the hour.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
You want to keep it locked for that, and of
course it is a trash talking Tuesday. So second hour
of the show, you'll be able to trash anyone or
anything in the world of sports.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
Let me welcome in my partner Rob Parker. What up matter,
what's happened to mister Chris Bruchard? How are you? Fantastic? Fantastic?
Speaker 6 (01:47):
How was the the calls?
Speaker 5 (01:52):
Texas?
Speaker 6 (01:53):
You got everything yesterday when you officially announced that it
was a done deal and that you were moving on
from the Odd Couple.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
I'm sure you heard from a lot of people.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Huh, yeah, it was everything. Of course on the radio
was great, It was yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
I just wonder for us.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Some of people, you know, joked with me like so
basically you were sitting there for three hours and people
were like, hell, Chris, we're gonna miss you. You were great,
and you're just like, yeah, yeah, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 7 (02:22):
Hours of eating it up all right after sixty years
on the radio, and there's nothing wrong with that, right, No,
it was good man, And of course got a lot
of Texas and uh, you know, just.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
People congratulating me and wondering, you know, what I'm doing next,
But just you know, some good articles I actually saw
written too about you know, yesterday's show.
Speaker 5 (02:44):
So it was all good man as I expected, no
doubt expected.
Speaker 6 (02:48):
And you know what, Chris, today, yesterday we have breaking news,
and today I think we have more breaking news.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
That didn't take long, Chris.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
So what are y'allre I mean, my goodness, talk about it.
I went from the mountaintop to now being replaced in
less than a day.
Speaker 6 (03:13):
There it is, and people want to know who's gonna
replace Chris Brussar. We said it before. He's not replacing you.
He's his own guy, exactly. And it'll be a different
Odd Couple. I call it the new Black Odd Couple, Chris.
But that's something else we'll talk about. I don't think
they're gonna let that fly. No, no, that's not gonna fly.
(03:35):
But yeah, we do have a new co host of
The Odd Couple starting on Monday, September sixteenth. And his
name is Kelvin Washington. Kelvin Washington brother, Yes, thank you,
and yes, friend of both of us. We know him well.
And Calvin, let me just say this. I think Kelvin
(03:58):
is a great choice. And and I've talked to you
Rob about it. I've talked to Kelvin.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
I had nothing to do with the decision, but I
just think it's a great choice. I've known Kelvin's worked
for a long time, and you're a professional brother, You're
a cool brother. I think you check all the boxes, man.
So I'm happy for you, and you happy for you Rob,
And obviously I had something in building the odd couple,
(04:26):
and I think it's in great hands and you guys
are just gonna, you know, take it and run with it.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
So I look forward to listening. Well.
Speaker 8 (04:35):
Shoot, first off, I just want to say thank you
to both of you. And Chris, you called me yesterday.
You didn't have to you you really expressed to me
how what this show meant to you, your time here,
your relationship with Rob. You said some complimentary things about me,
and it was awesome too for myself and my family.
We got a chance to listen to if you want
to call it the send off yesterday we we tuned
(04:57):
in and it was awesome. Seriously, my wife's braiding hair,
one of my daughters there listening it. You're like ah
as they kept saying.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
You know, Chris, Man, I don't know where I would
be without you.
Speaker 8 (05:07):
Man.
Speaker 5 (05:07):
I'm just thinking, you know, next.
Speaker 8 (05:09):
All coy, you know, if Rob is taking to the
call or what you got to sit it, Chris? And then,
oh man, you know I love Jesus just like you
brother hearing so it was awesome to hear. And I
mean it's sincerely to hear the people show you love
and pay.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
And we talked about it.
Speaker 8 (05:24):
Rob set it up yesterday giving out flowers when people
do it need it?
Speaker 5 (05:28):
Not now? Not, I mean twenty years from now, I
want somebody sickly.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Now.
Speaker 8 (05:32):
You guys really put on an amazing show for years,
you brothers that also have meant so much to people,
even aside from this, even prior to you guys joining
together the show, you've been doing so much together. I
was telling some of the crew out here outside the doors,
you know. For me, I remember watching you Chris do
your thing, reading your articles. Rob, I remember seeing you
back in Detroit and like, oh man, that's Rob parking.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
So to get to know both of you.
Speaker 8 (05:54):
As friends, as colleagues, and now have this opportunity to
sit next to Rob, both for icons, you both for
lets in this game. So for me, I'm very appreciative
of this opportunity. I look forward to it, man, And
like you said, Rob, it's not a replacement. You cannot
replace Chris on your own.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
Man, this will be a different version of something that
we uh we started Chris and uh and and and
and took to a different level. And now this will
be a different challenge for you to take it to
a different level as well. And I know you will
embrace that and we'll have fun along the way. The
(06:29):
mission doesn't change. The mission is to be fun and informative.
That that that's what we set out on the odd
couple Chris and I think Kelvin you get it too.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
You've done radio and you should tell people some of
the things.
Speaker 6 (06:42):
I mean, you know he worked with Marcellus Wiley on
on the radio show Mornings and Afternoons in l A.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
I mean, Marcellus is way bigger than Rob. I have
big time.
Speaker 8 (06:52):
Well, you're right, he waighs four hundred. He's figuratively and
literally bigger my guy. Like here he minute, it's work
on the bag.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
No.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
So for those yeah, for those who don't know.
Speaker 8 (07:04):
So, I've been doing radio here for three or four
years with ESPN, I was doing mornings with my guy
Travis Rodgers, which then turned the afternoons with Marcellus and
we obviously covered everything, had a ball doing it. It
was a great time. And then I decided to jump
into this TV space. Both of you know about that.
Uh hollered at TV for a little bit, still doing it.
You know, I'll be doing mornings. So that's gonna be Chris.
(07:25):
You know I need all the all the suggestions and
advice because listen, it's gonna be early mornings doing TV.
You know, I covered the Dodgers with the Sports that
LA out here uh in l A and so, been
into out of sports world for years. Do stuff with
the LA Times, the LA Times Today show, so that
you know, all of that stuff has been great and
leading me to this. But Chris, listen, doing TV early,
got a bunch of kids. Then at top off my night,
(07:48):
I got a smid it with Rob Parker. I'm a
needs brother. You gotta send me up, throw up a
few Hell Mary's for your boy.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
Hey man. One word nap, yes, nap. But the only
thing that's gonna be good though, Chris, compared to what
you were doing is that he lives in Los Angeles,
So it's four to seven your right, Chris, Chris. The
problem with Chris was.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
Seven to ten and doing the mornings and that's why
you don't have that much time, so that that's the
one thing that.
Speaker 8 (08:17):
That's a benefit. But also again I gotta look at you.
I gotta be like I mean, look at him. He's
getting zoom on. I could just turn it off, sitting
around and hoop shorts, you know what I mean.
Speaker 6 (08:30):
All people ever say is that Rob is in his phone.
It's either that'll look at Chris's face.
Speaker 8 (08:34):
So I'm in my phone, honestly, Like I said, man,
I appreciate you guys. Rob and I have gone back
for years now. We've actually done up half a bunch
of Radio two. Yeah, and so I'm looking looking forward
to this man. And like I said, I'm just you guys.
It's the house that you guys built, uh, And I'm
just trying to find my room to live in, you know,
and build on our own little section. So I wish
(08:55):
you all the best, brother Broussard. Uh, get spent some
time with that lovely wife.
Speaker 6 (09:00):
You know.
Speaker 8 (09:00):
I'm double tapping on the ground because you know you're
gonna be posting some travels and all that stuff. You
guys have wonderful date nights and uh, and keep building
up the ministry as well man. So again, you know,
you got a lot of love from me, from the
whole Washington family.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
So Chris, is this gonna help the marriage or hurt it?
I'm just curious. I'm just hope serious a great question.
I'm just being honest.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
You know.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
Sometimes people are like, oh, we're gonna spend more time together,
and then you'll be like that, you know, I might
have to get an assistant coaching.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
You know, I'm a lot of the former ex players.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Dude, I'm gonna say this, Kelvin, and I'll give you
some advice because you guys will be on the road.
You'll be at the super Bowl, which is a lot
of fun, maybe in a BJ Rob and I, you know,
we went to a lot of different things together.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
We always hung out together on the roads.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
A lot of people, you know, may have seen us
out together to fight the tars, Crawford Errow Spence fight,
hanging out. And so you will hang out with Rob. Oh,
here we go, and then you'll go.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
Back, like to the hotel. You be staying in the
same hotel.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
And don't take it personal when you find out that
when you went to the hotel and Rob, you know,
got in the elevator with you and got off of
the floor or waved to you as you were getting
off your flore All right, I'll see you in the morning.
Don't take it personal when you find out that after
you got off the elevator and went to your room,
(10:25):
Rob will wait about ten minutes and then he goes back.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
Downstairs, catches an uber or something. He's hooking.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
He's hanging out late night, Yeah, till like three four
in the morning. Don't take it personal that he didn't
invite you, or you didn't he didn't even tell you.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
No, you know what, I think that's just brother.
Speaker 8 (10:43):
We're gonna use the term wisdom, and I think that's
it been just maybe some wisdom of trying to listen.
We're trying to stay sane, trying to stay married out
here in these streets, and so, hey, I already know
I've I've gotten actually those sex before. Hey, what are
y'all doing next? No, Rob, well the night, Rob, I know,
Rob g got my receipts from somewhere. He was like,
I don't understand. How where'd you get all these receipts
(11:05):
from one hundred dollars. That's a lot of listenings. That's
a whole lot of lien. Right, No, I take that
will I will take that advice to heart. I will
find my limit. Brother, you know I would all right, Rob,
we did this, and we did this. I have a
good night, Rob, go ahead and have a good night.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
And here's the other thing too.
Speaker 6 (11:24):
I think as you get to know, you know the
people who listen to this show, is that Chris and
I really when we put this together, we wanted to
make sure that we connected with the listeners. And a
lot of guys that I'm not knocking people. Everybody could
do this show is their own way, but a lot
of guys they don't want to hear from the listeners.
I don't think you could build an audience that way.
(11:45):
I really don't. I don't think that.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
People enjoy radio was a part of that.
Speaker 8 (11:51):
Well, I mean, if I you know, you guys, i've
been doing ready, I used to do music radios.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
How it started years and years ago? Was twenty years ago?
You kind of had that DJ voice. I hear it
in there. Yeah, well you know, just a little bit.
Speaker 8 (12:05):
But you know, you know what's funny they talk and
I still teach this and you guys One of the
things I also respect so much about you guys is
you give back to the young, younger, up and coming,
you know, journalists, broadcasters, the whole nine. And so, you know,
one of the things I teach him is what I
was taught was that this is a personal medium.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Right.
Speaker 8 (12:21):
You're not talking to the days and the us and
all of that. I'm talking to you. You listening are
part of this family, right you. And one of the
things they used to tell you us imagine like your
girlfriend or your best friend and you put a picture
of them and you're talking to them, meaning they're a
part of the show, you know, And it just as again,
it's a personal open door, like come on into the
family kind of a thing. And that's it. And at
(12:42):
the end of the day, that's what sports is supposed
to be.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Right.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
We're all in in.
Speaker 8 (12:45):
The clubhouse, we're all in the locker room, hanging out,
talking smack. We're all in the barbershop. We just happened
to have the microphones. But it's very much welcome. I
love it, man, I love I love the road session.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
You know what I mean. Can't listen, you can't be
in this business.
Speaker 8 (12:57):
Y'all know this you can't be in this business if
you don't have thick skin, right because you're gonna say
some outrageous takes.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
I'm not gonna point the elbows point it out.
Speaker 8 (13:06):
I'm sorry you asked some wow takes togeous takes?
Speaker 5 (13:09):
Is the same one? I think you'll be the same one.
Speaker 8 (13:13):
Yeah, well, I mean, hey, you say that now you know,
you know it might be some crazy text, but you know,
getting blazed and roasted about your takes and or you know, uh,
some crazy story that we had. Honestly, this is what
makes it fun, right, There's so much going on in
the world that we get to come in here for
a few hours a day, get paid to talk about
something we would talk about anyway, which is sports and
(13:36):
really in our own personal lives, and have fun about
it and have fun with it. I mean, come on, man,
you know, as my brother Brusa, I would say, God
is good.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
We get an opportunity to do that.
Speaker 6 (13:46):
And the other thing too, that is uh is important too.
And Chris and I I mean, if we were to
put together some of our screaming matches, I mean, everybody
knows Elijah about right, Like, there's some some moments there
where we're like screaming, like, but we never like we
(14:06):
know what a lot of shows where guys you know,
don't talk to each other.
Speaker 5 (14:10):
Or don't hang out.
Speaker 6 (14:11):
The thing that I always remember, Chris, when we were
in Vegas for the fight, one of the fights, you don't
know how many fans came up to us and like, oh,
this is awesome that y'all actually hang out together. You
know that they noticed that because they know that guys
work together and on the set or whatever for three
four hours, and then when it's like time to go,
they're like, they don't talk to each other, they don't
(14:33):
go to dinner.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Togain, we always go out to eat or whatever it is.
Speaker 8 (14:36):
Well, listen, we're gonna have to expand your palette though
we go to eat wings. Yeah, we gotta expand your
palette because like it's not even like for those of
you who are watching right down the zoo and listening,
let me tell you, it's not like a joke like, hey,
let's do our little stick about he came in today
five minutes ago. But here's the thing too, here's the
thing where I'm disappointed in the wings out to Wings.
(14:56):
We all love Wings a matter of fact vj owes
me some wings. That's another story. We made a better box.
Yeah right, good luck getting them. I'm gonna get well,
just I'll get him. As it was, it was the
bet that he was gonna get the job. Okay, I'm
just saying I'm not gonna let you do that. It
was about I said the Kansas City Chiefs would make
it to the AFC Championship last year. So shout out
to BJ. I want my wings, but I don't. This
(15:18):
was my point about the wings. I don't want Rob
Parker wings.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Where were those.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Wings from from?
Speaker 2 (15:22):
You? Girl?
Speaker 5 (15:25):
Making too much money, making too much money for.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
I will eat wings from anywhere. It might be from
Polo Loco across the street. But wings were good. But
that's at least good. This was this was like like and.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
They were marked down.
Speaker 6 (15:39):
They were marked down wings today I just put barbecue sauce.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
So I'm an one thing. Hell, I'm gonna up your game.
More advice though, when you order, if you're gonna pay
for just order out. Okay, pay for a few food
when you guys are ordering out.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Maybe the food comes to the studio when you go
out to eat with Rob. Don't don't pay, okay, because
if you are paining, he will not only eat his meal.
And you know his motto. When someone else pays, he's fula.
So that's number one.
Speaker 5 (16:10):
Number two, though he will order something to go on he.
Speaker 8 (16:16):
Want something go What do you mean why? I'm gonna
tell you what's the difference. First of all, I got
a bunch of miles to feed. Okay, now I've been blessing.
Speaker 5 (16:23):
I'm all right. If you're taking me out to love Ball.
Speaker 8 (16:25):
You said it like you were a baddie, like you
were getting me battye I met on Instagram. You're taking
me out. You're not getting flew out us. You're settled down.
Nobody's find you out. We're going to get some wings,
maybe a burger.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
Okay. Matter of fact, that's what I'm gonna do in advance,
So I'm gonna know where we're going. In advance. I'm saying, hey,
I'm coming here with Brob Parker. That's what I need
you to do. All right, this is what he likes.
I have that already ready. That's it.
Speaker 8 (16:44):
We're gonna set We're gonna set it all up like
that because yeah, and you know what, you got one
fla in me right, we're about to start this journey,
so good if you want know singular Okay, make sure
you have one fil a we start a new show.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
You gotta stick on your boy. I want to say
this real quick.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
So when I started in Detroit, Lorna Gladstone was the
the PD at the station WDFM, and so the first
time she took out me and Mike Stone, who was
my partner back then. Uh, we went to a restaurant
and she didn't say any restrictions. So of course I
ordered lobster. So you know it's a startup station. I
(17:21):
ordered lobster or whatever. So the next time we go out,
she goes, okay, rob we're going out again. Uh, you
and Stony, But I want you to know this is
a non lobster.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
So what I had to put it out there. This
is at los Yeah, there, no cool. Come on, Rober's
the kouth brother, you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Yeah, no, no couth. Well, look we do we do.
We are doing a radio so so we gotta go
to break Kelvin.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
He's gonna stick around until the bottom of the hour.

Speaker 5 (19:40):
Guys are gonna do together.
Speaker 8 (19:42):
Yeah again man, Like I said, I just want to
say thank you to both of you for again creating
this platform.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
You guys have done an amazing job.
Speaker 8 (19:48):
And not to mention, you know you had a great
run six years and I heard you talking about it yesterday,
Chris that you know you never listen anybody who's been
in this business long enough, you never you know, is
you circle back, you come back and whatever capacity. So
this isn't I don't think this is goodbye for you
in any way when it comes to radio, just you know,
transitioning a bit.
Speaker 5 (20:07):
And again also to Rob, he could go on Doug
Gottlieb show. I don't know about this show. You know
you want to come back on the radio.
Speaker 6 (20:13):
Why don't you get a coaching job and then you
can be on Doug Gottlieb show.
Speaker 8 (20:17):
I'm saying that's true. I mean, listen, I didn't I
didn't say come back to this show. I would just say.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Just look, I hope to get like an eight minute phone.
Speaker 5 (20:26):
Interview every every blue move.
Speaker 8 (20:28):
But to Rob's point, if it is, it's gonna be Chris,
how she doing with you right now?
Speaker 5 (20:33):
You're home all the time.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
I mean, as matter of fact, he might be calling on, Hey,
what's up, guys, what y'all doing to l.
Speaker 5 (20:41):
A can brother get on you never fill in? I
can come to the super Bowl. I would come. I'm
buy my own ticket. No again.
Speaker 8 (20:53):
But I'm just like I said, man, and I will
be remiss if I don't say a big shout out
to Don Martin, a big shot, to Scott Shapiro who's
sitting over there on the other side of the glass.
Speaker 7 (21:02):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (21:02):
These guys have been championing me, have been showing me
love for years now for a lot of listeners.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
Not you know, I've been doing this here for a
little while.
Speaker 8 (21:10):
I was on and off on weekends and South Steve Hartman,
he from salam guys that I was doing radio with
a lot, Katino Mobley, a bunch of other guys. I
used to do a lot of radio with here at
Fox Sports, So I'm not new to the Faneve.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
Hartman, did you ever get a word in?
Speaker 8 (21:23):
I'm just you know, you know Kelvin and nineteen eighty one,
I was with the Raiders and you know Kelvin, and
I uh never tell you about it. I go to
bed and I roll over and I wake up, and
then you know Kelvin and hey, Steve, Steve, he had
me on the show. It's a big end there, you know.
Speaker 6 (21:42):
So but I just want you to know I forced
Steve Hartman to take calls for the first time in
twenty years. Probably looked at you, he was he was, Oh,
he was beside himself, no doubt. I don't think he's
talked to you ever since that was it? You talk
about you right now, you know, Rob. I actually one
time I did take phone calls. Rob Parker yeah, so
again I'm looking forward to my time here.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Man.
Speaker 8 (22:03):
Everybody's been great, very welcoming again to YouTube, Rob. I
appreciate you. I know, I know you well enough to
know I know you're like man, I know my phone's
been blowing up. Everybody's been calling me, and then you know,
people wanted this as a very coveted position. But I
am grateful for all of you bringing your boy in,
giving me this opportunity, doubt, and all of you listening.
(22:23):
You know you're absolutely The departure for now with Chris
is difficult, as it would be in anything, right, anybody
leaves a show, whether it be a TV show, radio show,
your favorite podcast, it's difficult. So I only ask that
you give your boy a shot, give me some time.
I think you'll be able to rock with me. I'll
rock with you, guys. But again, I totally understand how
it is when you you know you feel like I
(22:44):
told you, Chris, I'm listening to somebody. Man, I don't
know what I'm gonna do anymore. I mean, I'm trying
not to cry, but I may be said in one Christiano,
I heard a couple I didn't really mess with you,
Chris at first.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
But no, I really like you at first, so I
say the same thing to people.
Speaker 8 (23:02):
You know, I understand it's going to be difficult at first,
but give you know, give me, give Rob, giving myself
and Rob a shot, and I think you'll come to
enjoy it, all.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
Right, all right?
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Thank you brother from Salaams around the corner see couple
live from the tirereck dot Com Studios. Our next guest
got theme music, that's right. Former NFL offensive lineman and
the Fox Sports Radio Weekend superstar our man e from Salim.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
What up? Brother?
Speaker 2 (23:33):
How y'all doing that? I look at y'all back together again,
and look at this beautiful thing after a.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Whole month, a whole month without each other, and yes,
we are back together again. But man, there's so much
to talk about from football wise.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
Let me I want to ask you this.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
We know Trent Williams is signed, we know Brandon Ayu
can sign, Christian McCaffrey is back, should be ready to
play Monday, but none of them went through preseason.
Speaker 5 (24:00):
Workouts, training camp.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
How much of an impact that You can look at
Jamar Chase and it's the same thing with the Bengals.
How much of an impact will we see if any
on these guys in game one, maybe game two three, whatever,
Like how long does it take these guys get ready
or really are they gonna be ready for jump?
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Whatever? Be ready for jump? I could speak especially for
Trent Williams. You got to remember, you know, as an
offensive lineman, right, Like, what you don't want to do
is go in and bang your shoulders up and all that.
Trent thirty six years old, he's been you know, all
world for forever. He knows exactly what he needs to do.
(24:43):
He's been working out now not being a training camp
and not working out or two different things. Right, So
all he did was I've been through because of injury,
a whole training camp without ever being a training camp
and coming back and having a great season. You just
don't have the wear and tear on your body as
an offensive lineman. In terms of receivers, the only thing
(25:04):
you really got to worry about because they've been running
routes like you're running routes. You know the offense. The
offense isn't changing. Uh. The only thing you have to
worry about the soft tissue issues that you know, hamstring, quad, calf,
those type of things, because you know you haven't been
in the preseason. You haven't had any snaps like that.
Now that's you know, they've been taking care of themselves.
(25:25):
They knew that the deals would get done and things
like that. And for Christian McCaffrey, the less pounding for him,
the better. I mean, he's you want to talk about,
his usage rate is through the roof during during the season,
so as you can as you can get him as
fresh as he possibly can be without taking that pounding
in camp, I think it'd be great. So I say
(25:46):
that to say they'll be fine. Like Walter Jones, remember
for Seattle didn't for the last five years, didn't do
any training camp. He just kept holding out and getting
franchise tagged and came in and was still all world
as an offensive tackle from.
Speaker 5 (25:59):
How surprised were you that when they did.
Speaker 6 (26:02):
A secret poll of quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers was voted the
smartest quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
The smartest, YEA, I'm not surprised. It comes from an
era that I played in, one that I believe, in
my opinion, the greatest era of quarterbacks in NFL history,
with the likes of Tom Brady, Peyton, Manning, Drew Brees,
Ben Roethlisberger, you know, just Michael Vigg, Donovan McNabb. The
(26:33):
list goes on and on and on of tremendous quarterbacks.
And what happened was when that new breed came in,
they had to Now, like Peyton Manning came in and
changed the whole position. Right now, you're calling players and
dictating to the defense what you're gonna do at the
line of scrimmage. And so you had to if you
wanted to be considered elite, you had more on your
(26:54):
plate and you had to step up and be able
to deliver. So it doesn't it doesn't surprise me that
someone from the old Guard is considered the smartest player,
uh that one of the smartest quarterbacks in the league,
because that's what you had to be.
Speaker 5 (27:08):
How do you how up?
Speaker 6 (27:10):
Let me just follow us up, Chris Patrick Mahomes only
got one vote.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
How surprised are you with that?
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Now? That's crazy. Now they made quite a lot of
that to to Andy Reid.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
But no, I mean, you know, you got one vote,
probably got one. Love got one vote, Chris and Joe
Burrow didn't get any. Joe Burrow got zero. I mean,
I'm I'm SURPRISEDE right, that Mahomes got one vote. I'm
not saying that's.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
A little hate. That's a little Mahomes in Kansas City
fatigue right there.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
Yeah, I would agree with that, and you can't just
blame it.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Oh they think he's so gifted, which he is, but
so are Rogers and Matt there you were the top
vote getters.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
So let me he from which.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Since we're on Aaron Rodgers, assuming he's healthy, what do
you expect from him?
Speaker 5 (28:01):
Because he got a lot of talent around him.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
I think they'll be good. I think they'll they'll they'll
compete for I think they'll compete for, you know, a
wild card spot in the playoffs if he can stay healthy.
Speaker 5 (28:13):
Uh, they can't win that division.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
I'll still give it to Buffalo.
Speaker 5 (28:18):
Oh wow, I'm out on Buffalo. Okay, I get it.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
But what we what we know, what we now know
is Aaron Rodgers is going to be less mobile than
he's ever been before in his life. Uh. We think
they fixed the offensive line, but we'll have to wait
and see. You got to remember, in those four plays
he played last he got hit three of the four plays.
So we'll see what if that offensive line can hold
(28:45):
up because he's not going to be able to extend
plays like he once did in Green Bay and get
those long shots down the field, so heavy run timing routes,
get the ball out. He's a customers doing that. But
I need to in terms of you know, what that
offensive line is gonna look like, and if they're gonna
give him the time to you know, he likes to
(29:06):
throw deep. Now they like to hold on to that
ball and let that thing go.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
How big is this game?
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Thursday? Baltimore is at Kansas City. Obviously Kansas City took
care of them in the AFC Championship in Baltimore last
year when everybody thought it was the Ravens year.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
How big is this game?
Speaker 1 (29:26):
And if they lose is how big of a mental
blow will that be to them? You know, in their
hopes of trying to get back get to the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
And you're talking about Kansas City, are you talking about
no Baltimore?
Speaker 5 (29:38):
Baltimore?
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Well, first of all, I think it's a it's a
it's a it's a huge, huge game. I love the
NFL starting out with two games like this, two premier
teams who could possibly represent you know, the AFC and
the AFC Championship game. I love that. It lets you know, look, hey,
the NFL's here, we're playing. We schedule this. We want
(30:00):
you all to be entertained and tune in tomorrow for
another game on Friday. I think in terms of ending
your season, are you feeling a certain type of way
after a loss? The first the first loss? I don't
think that. I don't think that you know that that
has any bearing on what type of season you have.
(30:20):
You you got to learn how to win, win the
ones you're not supposed to and win the ones you're
supposed to, and that's a delicate balancing act. So I
don't think they'll have any problem either way, win or lose.
I still think these are two of the top teams
in the a FC.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
No mental block with like oh man, no, no, no,
nothing like that.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
Okay, all right, that is our man e from Salim.

(32:20):
you mentioned it at the end of last hour. We're
gonna talk from Aaron Rodgers. Big year for him and
the Jets. Expectations are sky high.
Speaker 5 (32:28):
In New York.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Some people thinking that the Jets could win. Robbie so
sounds crazy. I hardbid even say, but win their first
Super Bowl since nineteen sixty nine?
Speaker 5 (32:39):
How long is that? That is fifty fifty four five
since Moby Dick was they.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
I mean, come on, I knew that, knew that was
comings that purchase.
Speaker 5 (32:54):
That's right, you're gonna missed that stuff. I heard that
enough to know.
Speaker 6 (32:58):
I'm gonna tell you you're gonna be at dinner at some
fancy restaurant in Manhattan or whatever, spending two hundred dollars
on the meal, and you're going to be like, you
know what.
Speaker 5 (33:08):
I could be on.
Speaker 6 (33:09):
The radio with Rob right now and he could be
telling me jokes and I'm doubled.
Speaker 5 (33:12):
Over about Moby Dick was a guppy.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
I heard Moby Dick was a guppy two thousand, seven
hundred and eighty two times in our sixth man together
I heard the Louisiana Purchase one thousand, three hundred and
forty one time.
Speaker 5 (33:30):
Goodness, what else was there? What were what was another?
What was another one of your go to I never
listened to the Gil with a Riata show. I never
listened to it. That one, yeah, I never missed. I
missed the show.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
That one I heard eighteen thousand, nine hundred and forty
eight times.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
So I will, I've got my feel. But you like
that one though, right? No? Oh, they all were funny
and that one, that one was definitely good. That's everybody
he got into that one. That one, yes, all right?
Speaker 1 (34:03):
So Aaron Rodgers of course, Rob we talked about a
big year for him with the Jets and Bill Belichick.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
Look, isn't it interesting?
Speaker 1 (34:11):
I want your take on this because Bill Belichick is
doing podcasts, he's doing TV, he's all over and this
is a guy that wouldn't give the media.
Speaker 6 (34:25):
I mean, Chris, this is not even a shock to me.
This is all the time. This is what happens all
the time. The worst people with the media when they
need a gig all of a sudden, he don't even
need a gig, but you know what I mean, Like
they need to be relevant. He needs to stay relevant
and going away or not talking or whatever like that's
(34:45):
not gonna help him. So all I'm saying is, I
remember this, Rob Dibble, he's a closure for the Reds.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
Was terrible with us, Chris terrible with the media.
Speaker 6 (34:56):
Guess what Rob Dibble wound up doing post career at
radio show of all things, Right, it happens. I'm just
saying it does it. It's amazing to me, and I'm
just gonna keep it real. It's hypocritical.
Speaker 5 (35:14):
Go ahead, I want to hear this. It's just hypocritical.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
If you value the media, which you do, if you're
working in the media, then why treat them with disrespect?
Speaker 5 (35:26):
Right? Why treat them with disrespect? Now?
Speaker 1 (35:30):
I guess And I don't know what Belichick's gonna be doing.
And he's not the only one, but you know, he
may not be interviewing players, Rob or or you know,
doing a lot of interviews. He's not gonna obviously be
doing real journalism. But still it's just respect the media.
And I say this all the time, Rob, and I
(35:52):
don't mean, I don't want to overstate our importance, but
you know, journalism is important because that's how you get
the truth. That's one of the great things about our
society is the journalists. You know, Chris can report right,
and I mean Wartergate spy.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
You would hate to live in this country without the media.
I mean you look at certain countries where the.
Speaker 6 (36:15):
Media had exactly hand the government. And that's why when
I hear people, are we perfect, Chris nowhere not perfect?
Speaker 5 (36:25):
Are they bad journalists?
Speaker 6 (36:26):
Yes, they're bad doctors, they're bad lawyers, they're bad everything.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
Okay, so yes they're bad journalists. But let me tell
you something.
Speaker 6 (36:34):
If you didn't have journalism and journalists Chris keeping an
eye watching the store, if you would, it would be
a terrible place, absolutely absolutely, no question.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
And the thing about us though, to Rob, and it's
just the media in general, whether it's news you know,
newspapers obviously what they used to be, but these the websites,
you know, the internet, TV, radio, podcast, even these outlets
(37:09):
are what make these athletes larger than life and what
enables them to make the tons of money that they do.
Now I'm not saying they're obviously great athletes in their
own right, irregardless of us, but I'm just saying we
publicize them and again, not just newspapers or websites, but television.
Speaker 5 (37:30):
That's media.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Well, keep a side, right, if these guys aren't on television,
if people aren't talking them up and talking about every
play and every touchdown and every laws, right, we make
it matter to the point that it does, and so
that enables these guys to make the money that they make.
Speaker 5 (37:52):
So I'm just saying, and Rob, you know this too.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
If you're an athlete, you can use the media to
your benefit.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
Like you said, we're not perfect.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
We're human, right, and when athletes treat you with respect
and treat you right, they're going to get favorable covers.
Now we'll be objective, most of us, but still you're
human and human nature is you know what. That guy,
he's been good to us. So it just softens things
a little bit, you know, when a guy is in
(38:24):
trouble or so to speak. So I just think it's interesting, Rob,
that Bill Belichick is now doing so much media. It's
funny to say, it really is. I'm with you, so
here he is. Rob talking about the Jets.
Speaker 11 (38:42):
The Jets are one of the hardest teams to prepare
for from a skill standpoint, because of Breis Hall outstanding
running back that has the ability to take the ball
at the distance. He's very good in the passing game,
and defensively, you want to do everything you can get
the ball out of his hands and load the box.
Problem is, if you load the box, you're single up
there on Wilson and that's a tall order right there
(39:02):
to deal with him in one on one coverage, and
then his run after the catches is, you know, exceptional,
and Aaron knows how to use them, and Aaron will
know you know where the defense is heavy and where
they're light and be able to work the ball there.
And they just need to solidify the consistency of the
offensive line. But on paper, you know, I think they
have a good offense and they're hard to defend with
a good quarterback, a great wide receiver and a great
(39:25):
running back.
Speaker 6 (39:26):
Where's the mumbling and the h and the muffled talk
and the short sentences and two word answers that we
heard for twenty five years?
Speaker 5 (39:38):
Where's that? Chris is? Somebody? Where's that?
Speaker 8 (39:41):
Ome?
Speaker 1 (39:41):
Belichick work with him told me, and you may have
heard this before, that Belichick's view was, if I'm winning this,
of course, you know he's the media. If I'm winning,
they can't hurt me. No, and if I'm losing, they
be in the media can't help me. So we had
(40:01):
no use for the media. But I'll tell you this, Rob,
I was in Cleveland. I was not a professional, you know,
I wasn't covering pro sports high schools right when he
was coaching the Browns, and the media despised him. That's
probably too strong, but like couldn't stand him because you know,
of his act. He wouldn't talk, he wouldn't give him anything,
(40:24):
and then of course he benched, you know, the favorite
son Bernie kozars I had a jill right, and he
may have been right because you know, Vinnie Testa Verdi
came in, but they he Rob when it went bad
for him, he just had no support whatsoever. And I
actually thought, I know, I think his last year there
was a down year, but he kind of had them.
(40:45):
I thought he was doing a good job towards the end,
had a good, really good season with him. I think
they won eleven games, but they they turned on him,
like he had no support, you know what I mean
once it was going bad, and obviously he was fired.
But yeah, it's just you know, like we said, But
let me ask you this, what do you expect from
(41:06):
Aaron Rodgers this year and the Jets Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 6 (41:10):
And this I just I can't look down the road
and say they're going to the super Bowl or anything
that crazy. What I do expect is for them to
be three wins better than they have been. At minimum,
they won seven games with no quarterback.
Speaker 5 (41:25):
Quitch.
Speaker 6 (41:25):
I'm just saying, at minimum, if they don't win ten games,
there's been a terrible season.
Speaker 5 (41:31):
Can I say that. I'm dead serious.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
If they're terrible, I mean because they and Belichick said it,
and I've been saying it for months now. On paper, Rob,
they look great. Their defense, you mentioned it. Last two
years they won seven games with no quarterbackably.
Speaker 5 (41:48):
The worst quarterback player in the league with question.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
Last year they beat Buffalo, Houston and Philadelphia with Zach
Wilson playing quarterback with and you know.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
How that the defense never had a lead.
Speaker 1 (42:04):
You know they field position is poor, the offense isn't
helping you at all.
Speaker 5 (42:10):
And they were able to win seven games.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
So defensively they're strong at every level, back, the secondary linebackers, front,
the front four, and then offensively they did make a
lot of moves. They got four new offensive linemen, at
least two of them from Baltimore. They got Tyron Smith,
you got Breist Hall, who was a good running back.
(42:34):
Garrett Wilson's a fantastic receiver. Mike Williams from the Chargers
is a very good receiver with healthy and of course
Aaron Rodgers. Like on paper, Rob, they look good. The
question really to me is can they stay healthy. I
do have them winning the AFC East. I don't I'm
with you. I don't have them getting to the super Bowl,
(42:55):
but I have them winning the division. And if Rogers,
I don't expect them to be MVP level Rogers, but Rob,
if he's eighty five percent of the MVP level Rogers,
I think it'll be somewhere in between that MVP and
what he was his last year in Green Bay and that.
(43:16):
Like you said, I mean, they had a zero maybe
a minus one at quarterback, Lie, I'm.
Speaker 5 (43:21):
Serious, that's how bad it was. Seven right.
Speaker 6 (43:23):
He doesn't have to be Chris ten or eleven for
them to have some success. They just need to protect him,
keep him up right, Chris, no injuries, and if they
can do that, he'll be able with those weapons to
do what he has to do. I'm not saying they're
gonna win anything. I really don't. I don't have those
(43:45):
kind of I don't see that happening. But if somehow
he got them to the Zuper Bowl, Chris like just
his legend and what could possibly be because you know
that if you do something with a franchise that had
never been able to do anything, it just it turned
your whole legacy into a different direction.
Speaker 5 (44:08):
With that, absolutely we are We say it all the time.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
What you do in New York is magnified, but positive
or negative. If it's bad, it's gonna be viewed as
worse than it really is because it's in New York.
If it's good, it's gonna be viewed as better than
it really is because it's in New York.
Speaker 5 (44:28):
If he were to get them to the Super Bowl
or win it, rob and we're not predicted when it
would was great at that time. But Joe Namath was legendary.
Speaker 6 (44:44):
No, he's always going to be right, like like, excuse
me what he did? Chris beating the the uh Balton?
Speaker 5 (44:55):
Yeah, like like the Baltimore cults, are you kidding? You know?
The coach was a that.
Speaker 6 (45:00):
Team Don Shula like Chris, like that was that was
one of the all time great moments in sports that
that wasn't supposed to happen. He predicted it with writers
Chris out of the pool at the hotel, yep, like
like they lay in.
Speaker 1 (45:19):
The seventies eighties, Rob Joe Namath, it really didn't get
much bigger than.
Speaker 6 (45:25):
Him, No, and he was the big time star limit
him and Walt Clyde Frazer.
Speaker 5 (45:30):
They own New York Chris Yep, yep.
Speaker 1 (45:32):
I will say this, and I I'm just throwing this
out there. I think right now, Rob, you've got Tom Brady,
Patrick Mahoons, Joe Montana kind of on a tier by themself. Brady,
you know most people would have number one. But fine,
I'm just saying they're count of on a tier. If
(45:53):
Rogers were to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl win,
and whether it was this year or next year, if
he were able to do that, I think the argument
would be strong, Rob, assuming he played well, wasn't like
a peyton Man situation, the argument would be strong that
outside of those three, he's as good as anybody that's
(46:16):
ever played.
Speaker 5 (46:17):
He's the best out Now.
Speaker 1 (46:19):
I probably still would go Peyton Manning just because of
the way he changed the game.
Speaker 5 (46:25):
And all that.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
But the thing Rogers would have over him, Rob is
assuming he played well in the Super Bowl, you know,
or even just played well that season, he wouldn't even
have to have great the greatest super Bowl game. But
Manning was not good his last Super Bowl. No, no, no,
not just that game, but that season.
Speaker 6 (46:44):
Remember, he got bench, He got bench for what was
that guy's name up rock Goshswiler. Yeah, he got bench
for him, and then he looked like the ten man
in the Super Bowl quick one hundred and ten yards away.
Speaker 1 (46:58):
I don't even know if he had a or something.
Speaker 5 (47:03):
But that's the thing.
Speaker 1 (47:04):
So if Rogers were to be a real you know,
still a good player, and they won the Super Bowl,
you know, some people would argue, obviously, he doesn't throw
the interceptions. He's far fewer interceptions than Peyton had. Again,
I still probably go Peyton, but you'd have an argument
for Rogers, there's no question.
Speaker 5 (47:22):
And doing it in New York with the Jets.
Speaker 1 (47:25):
So this is a huge year for me and I
even throw this out, Rob, does he have anything to lose,
because if he doesn't play well, you're just like dude's
forty and he's coming off of Achilles injury. You can't
take away what he did in Green Bay.
Speaker 5 (47:44):
So I don't even know.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
It's almost I mean, I don't Most people would not
say he's playing with house money. But I'm just saying
he's got the built in excuse and it's a legitimate
or maybe it's more of an explanation if he doesn't
play well.
Speaker 5 (48:00):
He's old and he's.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
Coming off a serious injury, so he should be able
to go out there and just play, you know, footloose
and fancy free, and we'll see what it does for
the Jets.
Speaker 5 (48:12):
All right, eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Speaker 1 (48:15):
Your thoughts on Aaron Rodgers and what this season? What
you expect from him in the Jets this season? Eight
