puts her own drop in and all of a sudden,
(03:22):

Speaker 1 (03:24):
That's a hot that's a hot take right there.
Speaker 6 (03:28):
I think you guys are jealous of me, That's what
I am.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
And especially because that it just fits, doesn't it? Mary, Mary?
Why you buging?
Speaker 1 (03:40):
It's great? All right? Uh?
Speaker 3 (03:42):
So much to do so little Tom, rob G. There
was a story out there, let's just get into it
from the uh Stealers coming out of Pittsburgh. Yep, coming
out of Pittsburgh. One of the longtime Beat riders, just
talking about Wilson and the offensive coordinator.
Speaker 5 (04:03):
Yeah, so according to uh, well, now he works with
the Pat McCarey.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Don't know how that happens. You go from being a
beat writer to working for Oh yeah remember that he did?
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yeah, yeah, I do remember that.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
Mark Caboli, because longtime Steelers beat writer and reporter worked
for various outlets out there, now works for Pat McAfee
reported today that Russell Wilson and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith
quote did not have a very good working relationship, but
they fought through their differences as best they could. Now
(04:33):
normally it's not a big deal, but the problem with
this one is Rob Parker, Russell Wilson doesn't have a
contract from next season. The Steelers do not have a
QB one on their rock. Every one of their quarterbacks
that end of the season is entering free agency as
we speak.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
So the question then becomes.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
Rob, are you concerned that this Russell Wilson relationship issue
with offensive coordinator is going to hurt him at the
negotiation table and his chances of becoming and maintaining his
spot as the Steelers QB one.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
I don't think it should.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
You know this, There are always issues inside of sports,
and you know, language and dealing with people, and there
are a lot of people who have been very successful
and behind the scenes. What if they had Rob G
knock down dragouts right behind the scenes. There you go.
But we still get the show done, don't we Yep,
So you get my point there. But I'm gonna say
(05:27):
this for people think automatically, hey, just get rid of
Russell Wilson.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
I'm sorry, Rob G.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
He wasn't the issue to me with this Steeler team
because to me, if you're honest, even after Field started
out four and two, did the Steelers not take it
to a different level the next few games once he
got in the starting quarterback?
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Absolutely right, Absolutely, they opened up the game. They were
throwing the ball around the yard.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
He had a fantastic what was it, five game winning streak?
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Correct?
Speaker 5 (06:02):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Correct?
Speaker 3 (06:03):
That took them to nine and two or something. They
were off and running. At one point they were ten
and three, ten and three, And I get it because
it ended sour. If you mixed in a couple of
those losses, Rob G and not had to be five
in a row to end the year or whatever, right
with the playoffs, it wouldn't feel as bad, right if
(06:25):
you did it the other way around said they mixed
in and they didn't have a five game winning street,
but they won. Take to be the Lions from a
few years ago exactly, and you would feel like, oh
the optimist. Yeah, Okay, I get it when you lose
the last five and you lose the way you did
in the playoffs where you got dominated and you saw
the Ravens run the ball thirteen straight times down your
throat for a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Right, So I get all that, But I don't think
it's Russ.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
And I'm not saying Russ is the Russe was in
Seattle that went back to back Super Bowls and won
one and could have won two if he didn't throw
that terrible pick in the end zone. The Steelers have
other issues the defense at the quarterback play.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Rob G do you disagree with this that.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
The quarterback play was better than they've had in years
from Russell Wilson. I mean, it's a very low bar
to clear, Robins, No, I agree, But is it better? Yes,
this year leaps and bounds better than what they've had
the last years. Okay, So ninety five point six quarterback
rating for Russell Wilson justin fields ninety three point three
so he even improved what Justin Fields did in the
(07:32):
first four and ford and two start Kenny Pickett seventy
nine point three, Mitch Trubisky seventy six point four, Mason
Rudolph seventy five point one, and Duck Hodges seventy one
point four. But let's think about the defense. That's the
(07:54):
thing that the backbone to the Steelers steel curtain. Yet
it's about their defense I'm talking about during their losing streak.
They gave up twenty seven, thirty four, twenty nine, nineteen
and twenty eight. And I just told you about the
Ravens and how they steam rolled them and ran the
(08:15):
ball down their throats. Hey, guess what we're running on
this down? Guess what the on second down? Rob Gee,
we're running on second down. We dare you to stop us.
We're running on third down, fourth down, fifth down, sixth down,
seventh down, right thirteen straight plays.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
You get my point? I do, all right? I know
people say it's crazy, where are you gonna go?
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Like, seriously, if I'm the Steelers, rush should be you
can get a quarterback who's going to be your next guy?
For right, you should have not not talking about big
contract or anything for Russ one more year. But you
have to have somebody who's going to be a quarterback.
I just don't think it's Justin Fields. I don't even
(09:01):
with the four and two start, they would not have
made a change if they really believed Justin Fields was
their quarterback of the future. What would have been the
purpose of Russell Wilson if you really believed that. After
watching the first six games, I think.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Rob everything you said is correct, right, because they've had
some of the worst quarterback play in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
You know, especially for a good team.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
They really ever since Big I mean even when Big
Ben was there the last few years they wasn't good.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
But in the post Big.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
Ben era, they've had the worst quarterback to play by
far of any like playoff type team in the NFL.
Where I disagree with you is this down the stretch
of the season. The last five game he made, they
lose five straight. They never scored more than seventeen points
any of those five games. Across the last five games,
their offense averaged fourteen points a game. Now, say what
(09:52):
you want about Justin Fields.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Did the Los Angeles Rams what did they average their
last four game?
Speaker 5 (09:58):
Well, the last three when they played the start was fourteen,
like twenty eight with all the backups in so somewhere
around there.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Okay, So I'm just saying right, right, right, right, and
that made they just won a playoff game and.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Going to it they put it on Minnesota. Okay.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
Now, with Justin Field's got tons of limitations as a passer.
That's well documented, right. There was a stat that we
had last year that he was like the bottom five
in NFL history in terms of three hundred yard games
as a starter and things like that. So he's very limited.
Even with that, there his with that offense, they were
averaging almost nineteen points a game. So Justin Fields, as
(10:34):
limited as he is, the threat of his legs alone
made them more explosive. But I think and with Russell Wilson,
he was great in the middle part of the season.
Towards the end of the year when teams started to
kind of figure out what he could and couldn't do anymore,
especially in that system, they had a cap that you
just could not overcome. So I think if you're the
(10:56):
Pittsburgh Steelers, your receiver situation is very Harry lukewarm at best.
George Picken might be off the team with the way
he's been acting, you know in the media.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Well, that's another thing to rustin.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
Have have a lot of weapons, right right, let's just
be Deyontay Johnson, who they had before the season, just
got cut and claimed again.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
This is the third time in six weeks, right, gonna
say in a month. It feels like at.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
Najie Harris is very pedestrianus Galen Warren's okay. Their offensive
line is not good. So when you have that kind
of limitation across your offensive roster, you need your quarterback
to be able to do things beyond the scope of
the offense. And Russell Wilson just can't do that.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
Yeah, but I don't justin feels even with the four
and two, you gotta admit like it's limited and if
and if you're a team and you not, this guy
can't throw the football consistently. I don't know how defensive
coordinator can't figure can't work that out?
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Why dare you? I wouldn't make you make you throw
the football, you know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (11:56):
We'll see, I think, and I think that's the reason
why Mike Tomlin made the switch to Russell Wilson, and
it paid all it paid immediately. I mean they once
they got Russell Wilson in there, the Steelers' points went
from seventeen thirty two, thirty seven, twenty six, twenty eight, eighteen,
nineteen forty four.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
I remember that the big bank when he was having
before the bottom fell out, And that's that's what I'm saying,
Like it changed the dynamic. And at one point people
were like, oh, the Steelers in the mix? Why why
did they were in the mix?
Speaker 1 (12:28):
Right? Why why would we think that they're not in
the mix.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
They have a decent defense, but their defense didn't play
well at the end of you know, no, no, no,
But Pinkins also missed some balls, there was miscommunicating, missed
a lot in emotional Yeah, like something was wrong with him.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Normally he's a way better player than that. So there
was a couple things.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
And I'm just saying to just pick out the quarterback
when you just gave up when you were dominated, I'm
talking about offensively.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Yeah, their issues go way beyond.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
It's just too easy to just say, oh, Ross, look
at what happened in the last five games.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Look at the other part. Look what potentially he was
able to open up.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
That's the part that I'm saying that was what happened
in those five games when it was scoring points and
moving the football.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
He can throw the football.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
He still throws it, for my money, the best deep
ball in the league.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
It's pretty.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
But like I was saying earlier, I think they made
the switch to Russell was it was a Mike Tomlin call,
clearly right, because that's the call they had coach makes
you could tell by reading the tea leaves. But with
Arthur Smith, the OC was saying, is it felt like
he wanted to keep justin fields that he was aware
of the limitations across the roster. Now, in the short term,
(13:39):
Tomlin was proven right because of how explosive they became.
But once teams kind of caught up to us, like, hey,
if we take away the deep ball to Pickens, Russ,
you know, is not mobile like he used to be.
He's not really seeing the field the way that he
used to win Seattle, and he's very quick to check
it down and and kind of live to punt and
(14:01):
play defense. And their offense just didn't have the playmakers
to play like that. The rest of the way, the defense,
as you mentioned, was leaking oil down the straw up.
That's the other issue, is that like that's not Steeler defense. No,
And so I think that they are aware that in
order for at least offensive coordinator was and we'll see
tomlin Fields, you know a couple of weeks when it
comes to contract time. Is they need more than what
(14:24):
Russell Wilson can give them? That's the problem?
Speaker 1 (14:26):
All right?
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine is the telephone number?
Speaker 1 (14:35):
And just should they move on from Russell Wilson? Is
he the problem? And is he the problem?
Speaker 3 (14:42):
I say, he's not the problem, you know, if it's
up to me, I'm making a coaching change. Okay, Mike Tomlins,
all right, I'm making a coaching change. But we know
that that's not happening in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
So what do you do to fix this? Is it?
Is it just get rid of Ross that's the reason?
Or did you watch the defense down the street? All right?
Speaker 3 (15:01):

talking about the Texans. Why folks are disrespecting them, whether
it be Nick right of course, Fox Sports FS one
and then also you have a last week Rex Ryan
disrespected him. What's going on with that? Eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox Who we got? Let's kick it
off with Ben in Miami. You're on the odd couple
of Fox Sports Radio. What's up?
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Ben?
Speaker 7 (16:34):
Hey, guys, I love the show.
Speaker 8 (16:35):
By the way, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Yeah, appreciate appreciate you, thank you.
Speaker 9 (16:40):
I just want to say I don't think the Houston
Texans get their respect because I don't know if they
really deserve their respect. In the regular season, they lost
and got blown up by the Ravens, didn't play great
at the end of the season, and their playoff win
was against a team that's already known for choking in
the playoffs. I mean, they had the Chargers choked against
the Jags a couple of years ago. Why should we
respect them?
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Okay, here, Ben, those are all excellent point. Here's my
point to you. To say that they're a bye week
or that they're practice. Do you see what I'm saying.
I got it if you don't buy into the hike
that they got that they were going to the super Bowl,
because I didn't buy into that. But but Ben, they're
a bye week. Seriously, like you're in the playoffs. They
(17:18):
won the division, whether you like it or not. They
won ten games, great, right, I know, but they still
that's the division they're in, right because cause let me come,
let me say this to you, Ben, you say the
division isn't great. Nobody ever held that against the pat
The pay Patriots for twenty years. Tom Brady beat up
who the Jets in Miami and Buffalo for twenty years. No,
(17:43):
that's what I'm saying. But nobody ever held that against
the Patriots.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
Yeah, okay, but.
Speaker 9 (17:49):
They never fell They never fell off at the end
of a season like the Texans.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
But I'll say this too, losing to the Ravens clearly
every year they're blowing everybody. Ye, but I was like,
well two, that is ridiculous. That's that's a big two.
Is that you're almost better out being zero than the two? Peace?
Sure for such you're on the couple of Fox SPORTSU radio.
What's up?
Speaker 8 (18:11):
Yeah, my uncle from another mother, cousin Kelby in my brother's.
Speaker 9 (18:14):
Mind the board.
Speaker 10 (18:15):
Well I'll marry Max.
Speaker 8 (18:17):
Let me tell y'all.
Speaker 10 (18:18):
Man, after having a terrible week like.
Speaker 8 (18:20):
I've had, man a rooking now Monday, oh yeah, Tuesday, Wow,
court today and your boy was found guilty of driving
above the speed limit. So I gotta pay a little
phone in the dollar.
Speaker 7 (18:31):
Fine on that.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Yeah, California, califun yup, yeah, you already know already. When
I a Sean, when I moved here, I got my
first little ticket. I was all right, you know, buck
eighty something like that. I'm coming from Michigan, That's what
I'm thinking. And they were like three eighty five. I said, oh,
I'm not paying his ticket in hers, just mine, you know.
Speaker 10 (18:52):
You know, I'm just like Rob Parker Man. I took
it all the way to court, and appariently, having a
fifty piece of high wings in the car and getting
home to four starving kids is not enough reason to
drop sixty five and forty five.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
So that's what you get. That's what you get for
being honest, Sean. That's why you're supposed to come up
with something better. Did you have a coupon for those wings? Though,
I'm just asking.
Speaker 10 (19:11):
You already know rob By twenty gets thirty three?
Speaker 1 (19:14):
There you go up, go ahead, what you got?
Speaker 10 (19:18):
No, I know, rob Man? But on this man, look
that other caller asked Eli Man and the giants would
have like to limp into the playoffs and still find
a way to win.
Speaker 8 (19:26):
Man, you can't use that as.
Speaker 10 (19:28):
A reason why they should be overlooking these guys in Texas.
Speaker 11 (19:30):
Man.
Speaker 10 (19:31):
And on top of that, I'll say this, it's been
done before. Just think about what Joe Burrow did his
second time around in the playoffs, what he did to
Mahomes and the Chief at home, So it can be done.
That's not an excuse either, And I think I want
to mention it. The reason why I think they're being
overlooked by everybody but Sean King, who is trying to
get Rob Parker to drop a hundred on them as
(19:52):
playoff winners at the beginning of the season. The reason
why is they don't have as good of a story.
They don't have an MVP candidate, They're not.
Speaker 7 (19:59):
Going for a four.
Speaker 10 (20:00):
So of course I expect guys like Nick Right and
Rex Ryan, who are just looking for the bigger story
in the media, to uplift everybody else and down play Houston.
Speaker 8 (20:08):
But y'all better watch out, man.
Speaker 10 (20:09):
They dangerous.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Yeah, I was just telling it. I think they kind
of remind appreciate you, Sean and go enjoy the wings
and then stop speeding. Look that's what an air fry
is for Sean. Just put them in the air Friday
heat back up for you and the fam. It reminds
me of the AFC version of the Rams, right where
we expect Sean McVay to go twelve and five and
have this amazing offense and blah blah blah, and like
(20:31):
you look up in the Rams ten and seven, but
they're like one of those teams you're like, that's gonna
be a hard eye. We're gonna have to actually really
beat the Rams. And I kind of reminded me the
AFC version of that with the Texans, where it ain't
always pretty. They muck up the game, they run the
ball enough, maybe you know, make a pass here, and
their defense good. Then you look up and they got
a chance and a shot to win it. So to me,
(20:52):
I wouldn't be shocked if they're in this game, they're
gonna lose. I think the Chiefs are gonna win, but
it wouldn't shock me, but clearly it shocks everybody else.
I might pick the Texans. That's no, you're just saying.
I might pick the has a lot of points. I
might pick the the Chiefs never cover, so that ain't crazy,
all right, Greg in Las Vegas, you're on the odd
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Greg?
Speaker 4 (21:14):
Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 7 (21:14):
Guys?
Speaker 4 (21:15):
How you guys doing?
Speaker 1 (21:16):
We appreciate you?
Speaker 5 (21:17):
You know that?
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Good?
Speaker 7 (21:19):
Good?
Speaker 5 (21:19):
Good?
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Hey.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
So the Texans aren't getting any respects because they can't
beat the big dogs in the AFC. They constantly run
into the Chiefs, the Ravens, and the Buffalo Bills. They
cannot beat the big dogs. And until you beat the
big dogs, nobody's going to give you any respect in
that division. And on top of that, they're in the
AFC South, which is pretty much a walkthrough. I heard
(21:41):
what the last caller saying, coming from a Dolphins fan. Yes,
the Patriots were. They were walking through the division the
past twelve, thirteen, fourteen.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
The Patriots every year had six wins, like going into
the season, am I right?
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Six? It was just a giving all right down, Now,
let's play this season.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
And if you go back and think about them winning
whenever they won the division and the number one seed,
all they had to do is win two games to
get to the super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
That's how you go. You know how they would have done.
You had to win two games yeah, a big difference.
They did. They did. I mean, unless I'm tripping, the
Texans did beat the Bills this season, right, I mean,
I'm am I missing that. They did. They beat the Bills.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
That was the game that Josh Allen had none complete
shit and sixty three yards dropped g at my right
or what was the past?
Speaker 1 (22:31):
It was terrible? Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was like he
had Uh no, he didn't. But I'm just saying they
beat and the Alliance obviously one of the best teams
in the NFL. They you know, they almost they almost
just beat the Chargers. They ran to beat the Packers.
They I mean they listen, they got some they got
a few good games. I'm not saying listen, I'm not
saying they're world beaters. My point is everybody's acting like
(22:52):
they're a seven and you know ten Panther team. Remember
the Panthers went to the playoffs couple times being under
five hundred. Because they just won the NFC South, people
are acting like is that So That's that's where I
don't agree with this. All Right, we got Joe Varden
on the way and uh covering the NBA for the
athletic We'll have some NBA conversations with their talk the associations.
But right now we got to find out what's trending
with Mansi MONSI.
Speaker 6 (23:15):
You oh, just dandy, you know. I I hear what
you're saying. Obviously ridiculous to say that they're a bye week,
that there is no children.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Ridiculous, that's what. And you know you're the biggest charge
of fan going right.
Speaker 11 (23:28):
And I did take the Chargers obviously, but I did
not think it was gonna be an easy.
Speaker 6 (23:34):
Sunday We're going to walk out.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
That was hard to watch.
Speaker 6 (23:37):
It was very hard to watch. I was bamboozled because
they came out swinging and then literally just were like, no,
we're gonna stop playing.
Speaker 11 (23:44):
I actually think the Chiefs are more disrespected this year
than any team.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
They deserve it, No, they don't.
Speaker 6 (23:50):
What are you talking about.
Speaker 11 (23:51):
They're winners and they're gonna pull out whatever they want
for the playoffs and it's gonna be a different Chiefs team.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
I'll say this. I don't think they're is disrespect that
as you may do. I think people were indifferent, meaning
they just didn't really have a Chiefs usually.
Speaker 6 (24:05):
They're into a little bit of a disrespect.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
I think it's in different meaning, like I think the
three pete Do you think that like Mahomes should have
been in the conversation for MVP. No, okay, but that's why.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
About the Chiefs, I'm just saying, no, I don't. I
don't think.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
Yeah, So here's what I mean when I say in
different because Patrick Mahomes wasn't The Patrick Mahons were used
to looking away, throwing passes four hundred yards and all
of that.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
My whole porter, the one behind his back, cli, I mean, he.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Gonna get you one. But point we were talking about
him like that because Lamar has been that great, Josh
has been that great, The Lions have been fun. So
there are other things. Yes, I don't think it was disrespect.
It was just you're kind of the back of right,
let's go.
Speaker 6 (24:39):
No, I'm into it. I'm into it. NBA guys, a
full slate of games right now.
Speaker 11 (24:43):
The Knicks are beating the seventy six ers in Philly,
sixty four to fifty three, early in the third. Late
in the second, the Raptors are beating the Celtics. That's right,
forty six, forty four, but again late in the second quarter.
Late in the first quarter, the Hawks have the lead
against the Bulls twenty seven to twenty five, and the
Bucks are crushing the Magic right now twenty five to nine.
Also late in the first quarter, with the Pelicans on
top of the Mavericks twenty nine to twenty three, and
(25:06):
the Grizzlies are beating the Spurs twenty five to twenty three,
also late in the first at halftime, Pennce State is
losing to number twelve Michigan State in college hoops forty
six to thirty six. Halfway through the second half, Number
two Iowa State still on top of number nine Kansas
fifty one to forty three, and with about eight minutes
ago in the first half, Number six Tennessee beating number
twenty three Georgia seventeen sixteen on the ice. The Hurricanes score,
(25:29):
but it didn't matter. The Sabers have won four to
two is the final score there. In the NFL, Ravens
wide receivers A Flowers he didn't practice again today because
of that knee injury. Houston Texans linebacker aziz Al Schier
and wide receiver Robert Woods also didn't practice. No, they
practiced today after missing yesterday's practice, So good news there
Jordan Schultze of Fox Sports reports of Vikings defensive coordinator
(25:51):
Brian Flores. We'll interview with the Jets and Jaguars on
Friday and the Bears on Saturday for their head coaching jobs.
Women's basketball teams will be paid for playing games in
the NC Double A Tournament each March, just like the
men have been for years, under a new plan that
was approved today by the NC Double A Convention.
Speaker 6 (26:09):
So good there, lastly, here guys.
Speaker 11 (26:12):
According to the NFL weather dot Com other various weather reports,
Phillies Game, Eagles and Rams expected to be hit with rain, snow, wind,
and freezing temperatures when the game starts on Sunday.
Speaker 6 (26:27):
Kickoff temperature will be below freezing.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
January in Philly.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
Yes, I don't know what the Rams are gonna do.
That's gonna be uh tough for them, that is gonna be.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
I mean, you know, man up, man up. I thank
thank you, Manzy, appreciate it. Manti. You couldn't deal with
that weather though, absolutely you would. She would melt. She
would know, yeh. Comedy or freeze comedy. You live from
the tiraq dot Com studios. It is the couple Rob
Parker Kelvin Washington on a worship Wednesday, and it's time
now joined. But Joe Barden covered the NBA for the
(27:01):
Athletic Joe, what's up man? Happy New Year to you?
How are you?
Speaker 7 (27:05):
Hey? Guys, Happy new Year? Coming to you live from
Oklahoma City. It's very quiet here tonight. It will not
be that quiet tomorrow, life, No, it will not.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
And yeah, I mean, yeah, it's insane. You can answer
the question we kind of talked about a little bit yesterday.
I mean, they're on a pace for an absurd record.
I mean one point time it was on pace for
like seventy two to ten. What the heck makes this
team so good? And at me go even a little
little more. What makes the organizations so great that every
time we kind of go, oh, this is when they're
(27:34):
Kevin Durant's going they're going to be bad, and they're not. Oh,
Russell westbo you know, Chris Paul's there, he's just there
to watch his career's washed and they're they're still good.
What does this organization do to continuously be good year
in year out.
Speaker 7 (27:47):
Yeah, I've seen Jay. They got here through a demonstrated patience.
I would say they were willing to be.
Speaker 8 (27:58):
Bad for a while.
Speaker 7 (28:00):
They were, they ran into a little luck, you know,
with the Clippers wanting to assemble the team that they
assembled and acquired a player the caliber of Shay Gilds
just Alexander I'm not sure his rookie year that that
that people had envisioned that he would be this and
(28:21):
they you know, they got him, you know, at the
perfect time. And he's obviously thrilled to be a part
of the organization. And you know, they've just taken their
time to build so that like the moves that they
make are not mistakes. And what you see now is
they're one of the best. They're the second best team
(28:41):
record wise in the NBA. They're very young, they control
the next several drafts. Don't ask me to name their picks,
so they have too many. I don't even know.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
I just know they have.
Speaker 7 (28:54):
You know, they're kind of running the show here for
the next several years. And they're this good in a
year where arguably their second best player or maybe their
second most important player, Brocus Telvis a few games into
the season. So you know, when you think about what
happens at the Prade deadline, like you expect the Thunder
(29:16):
to be somewhat active just because they have so much capital,
they can make an upgrade. But they're probably going to
get Chet homerun back, and that's a rim protector. A
big who's tenacious can run the floor, play at both ends.
So when you think about the matchup that we have
tomorrow night, we had the same thing last week in
(29:38):
Cleveland between the Calves and the Thunder. Those are two
teams that really should be very good for a very
long time.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
I got to jump in here and I'm going to say,
fair or not, I can't believe the Thunder will ever
win a championship. If you didn't win with Westbrook and Harden,
you won't win a championship.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Is that too harsh?
Speaker 7 (30:06):
Yeah, it's too harsh. I mean you got to think
about who was on the other side of that. I mean, Bron,
you know, peak peak Bron.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
But I'm just saying, you gotta admit, though, those three
guys right who could all wind up in the Hall
of Fame, you had them together and you didn't James
Hard Oh, but I'm still saying. I'm just saying, like,
it ain't that hard to win an NBA championship as
the New York Knicks. Ask the Brooklyn Nets, I can
ask you about twenty teams in the NBA. Joe, is
(30:38):
that fair? It's hard.
Speaker 7 (30:41):
It's very hard. It is very hard. But I do
think that it matters when you talk about the era
that you're in and right now, I mean, you know,
we we haven't had a repeat champion since the Warriors
in seventeen and eighteen, so that's quite a bit of time.
(31:02):
And you know, I mean the Celtics certainly have a
chance to get back to the finals, for sure, but
they're in a rut right now, and so you know,
this is a time of parody. And when you have
a transcendent player like Shay and you have these role
players that are committed at the defensive end the way
that the Thunders guys are, you know they have a chance.
(31:25):
Now we're talking about a team both in Oklahoma City
and Cleveland. I know, I keep coming back to Cleveland,
but these are two teams that are on, as you know,
as was mentioned, a historic pace. That's true, but both
teams have rosters full of guys who really have not
done it to the level that you would expect to
(31:47):
come playoff time. So both of these teams have to
prove it that part is true as well. But I
feel like if you're good enough to win seventy in
the regular season, then you are good enough to beat
any team for times in a seven game series that
I'm just ask it.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
I'm gonna stay on the record that they will not
n ot win championship ever.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
All Right, this team, I mean, this is how long
probably might win one of the next three years. Let
me ask you this and Joe Varden's our guests covering
the NBA for the Athletic I want to ask you
about the resurgence of Russell Westbrook.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
People had written him off and obviously, and I'm gonna
be it, just he didn't look great with the Lakers
and so on and so forth, but he looks like
the perfect fit with this Denver Nugget team. He and
Yokis are having the time in their lives getting triple
doubles together. How you can just what's happened there that
has made him kind of find himself again?
Speaker 10 (32:37):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (32:38):
And how good are they? How good can they be?
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Well?
Speaker 7 (32:42):
I think you know when you talk about the experience
factor first and how much that matters in the playoffs.
You know, they are certainly on the rise. They had
a pretty lousy start to the year, but they've got
the best player currently and then Jamal Murray they have him,
he's got a ring, and and you know Porter and
(33:03):
Gordon they have rings. And then you add to that
mix this player in Russ, who you know can be
very happy distributing and getting to the rim. And on
this team, it's okay that he's not a prolific three
point shooter because the seventh footer is you know, like
you think about like even when when Russ was whether
(33:25):
he was with the Lakers or whether he was with
the Clippers, like and he was good with the Clippers
by the way, I thought he was a good fit there.
But even but still like when you when you think
about who was on the floor for them, I mean,
you know, Zubox is not a three point shooter. So
now you're thinking about more pressure to have that in
your in your bag if you're if you're a guard,
(33:48):
and you know that led to some to some problems.
But now like playing together with with Jokich and sharing
the ball the way that he does and not having
that pressure to shoot threes has been great. And they
they are, like I said that they are on fire
right now. They're rocketing through the West, up the standings.
(34:09):
I don't know that they will catch the thunder, and
they don't need to, you know, just get Jokic in
this group into the into the tournament and you know,
you see what happens. So they are probably, I mean,
they are as dangerous as any team in the West.
Speaker 8 (34:23):
Joe.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
Let me ask you this last thing here, Zion, if
you're the Pelicans, should you just move on, cut bait
and get what you get the best.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Thing you can get. He's missing flights, all kinds of
other stuff.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
It's just it's really been a disappointing when he gets
when he's on the court, he's been tremendous, unstoppable, right,
but he's just not on the court and it just
seems to be that he's distracted by other things.
Speaker 7 (34:51):
That's a hard one, you know. And then I mean
you've got jobs on the line there with you know,
just everybody above Zion, you know, I mean, coaches get judged,
front offices get judged. And then from an ownership perspective,
you know, being an owner in a small market with
a bad arena like they have there, and you know,
(35:13):
just questions all over the place, like do you really
turn around and trade your potentially transcendent star. I'm just
not sure the answer is yes. And I totally understand
where you guys are coming from. He has been a disappointment,
you can almost say a failure, Wes.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
I mean as good as he's been when he's been
out there, right, that's right.
Speaker 7 (35:35):
But when he plays, he's as good as anybody. And
you know, the Sixers had certainly some payoffs by holding
on to Joel and writing him as long as they did.
They got an MVP out of him. They haven't quite
gotten what they were hoping for in the playoffs so far.
But I just think, you know, I understand, I certainly
(35:57):
understand the sentiment, with it being as hard as it
is now in the NBA for contenders who are largely
big spenders anyway to make these kinds of trades, for
a player making a mess mess contract like like Zion Eas,
you know, I just I don't see that deal. I
(36:18):
don't see that out there. I think the Pelicans hold
on to him for dear life, because unless you're sure
that you can turn him into something potentially better, I don't.
I don't see the better.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Well, Joe, we appreciate you man. Have a wonderful rest
of your week, Joe Vard and give him a follow

and Monci will be the judge. So we got no shot.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Okay, we got about to revenge on us exactly, yes, sobs,
you know what I mean, Like, well, we'll fix their wagon.
They used to say, we'll fix your wagon. Can bring
up a super random thing. I don't know, cause that
means that I'm just nervous to know because sometimes it
goes back trouble. Yeah, just days when I'm gonna look
that out like this, this is a saying there, just
(38:04):
get me a look like now you don't want to know,
dub right, I'll fix your wagon. That's just okay. I
don't know what I mean. Maybe they literally mean like
current day would be I'll fix your tire, like because
that was the mode of transportation wagons back then. Maybe
I'll fixture, I'll fix your motor in the car. I
don't know, but dude, I do know real quick. You
know what annoys me and watching we got the Spurs
game up here, Spurs grizzly and Becky ham h is
(38:27):
uh sitting there front road talking with Tony Parker, and
I hate that everybody has to do to talk. Put
their hands in front of your mouth. Talk thing now,
Like I can't have a conversation with you because everybodys
reading our mouth and his cameras everywhere, Like it's so
annoying that we've gotten to this place, Like you can't
sit and have a normal conversation with the person at
the game Tony Parker and Brickerham. I'm like, that's just
I don't know that bothers me now, Like you can't
just type of conversation anymore. I got to cover my
(38:49):
mouth to talk to you. Y'all. Would just have to
know what I'm saying, because I ain't doing all that.
I hear you. If I'm talking about you, you have
to just deal with it.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
It says I'll fix your wagon is a slang phrase
that means you will retaliate against someone, essentially getting revenge
or causing them harm for something they did wrong.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
But what is the wagon? What's the correlation? That's what
I'm saying. It's been an urban dictionary. No, that was
the I A A AI overview. Oh yes, you say,
I ain't figured it out yet. Okay, chat box still
be tripping. All right, here we go our number three NBA.
Let's go there.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
Lebron James was talking about the Cavaliers. Yeah, and in
that conversation about the Cavaliers, a team he won a
championship with, was drafted by Ben There got two stops
there in Cleveland. He's from Aquin, Ohio, right up the road,
the whole nine yards. That's his hometown, right Aquinn. Okay,
(39:51):
it's like Ann Arbor in Detroit. You know what I mean,
You're not really in Detroit, but you would claim it,
wouldn't you. Yeah, this of course, same thing. You're from
atlish Way. I'm from Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
He was with the New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce.
Uh you know the brothers there who are also from
Cleveland too. So that was all the podcast dropped out
of number one. I think they going for some heavy hitters,
and I mean actually that was a lot of people
are saying, how did they get him before? And they
nick named another few podcasts that you would have thought
would have got him first. But then everybody was like,
it's the Cleveland thing because he went on with the
(40:24):
Ohio Native had on Lebron did so. But yeah, so
some people were taking back that he weed obviously because
he plays with the Lakers right now. You know what
I would say to him, stay off the weed. Okay, good,
you had to do that right there? That was that
was good and that's your man too, so he'll be
happy that you didn't.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Even that he loved that. Yeah, you know, we do
USC Andenburgh was that. So we always have to teach
that journalism and the students I get it. They go
to USC. So when they're doing highlights or talking about
the football team and having a conversation on debate, sometimes
they say, we we need to play better defense in
(41:01):
the second half.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
We need to do this or do that.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
So you gotta trade them that it's that day right
or USC on the So our saying is stay off
the Wei. Yes, that's kind of funny. Uh but Lebron
is we and this point we we all all the
way out of town. Yeah, he's weighing this because I mean,
I think you Michelle we oh, I'm sorry anymore. We
(41:25):
we got one more week? What what you saying? And
isn't that French? Oh? U are correct? Yes, it's correct.
Look at you, Renaissance, Renaiss. I've been all over the world,
all seven continents. I know what I'm talking about, the
fact that you were in Antartica, Yeah about all seven
off seven take a cruiser officially, maybe the fourth black
person to ever be on Antarctica. Unbelievable. And of them,
(41:48):
and two of them probably wasn't there by choice.
Speaker 3 (41:50):
I was trying to see the penguins. I was trying
to see what was going on and know the Earth's
not flat all the way down there. I'm telling you,
you haven't been on a cruise yet with Mary. Mary
doesn't know your cruise, your cruise.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
I've never even been on a cruise. The Golden Girls crew. Unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (42:06):
You think I want to be on a cruise of
a bunch of old people.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
That it was good. I know it was good for
you know what? It was good breaking pelvics because.
Speaker 3 (42:15):
And you know what, married, you don't have to worry
about getting anybody pregnant on the Golden Girls cruise.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Nothing like that.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
And the other thing too, is they can't get to
the line ahead of the live faster than you when
they go to the.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
Buff always so crazy. Oh stop like a grandma base
with us just stopped saying. They didn't even have to
bring up Hey, would you like to Senior discounted. The
whole cruise was discounted. It was just everybody on the.
Speaker 6 (42:43):
Think it would be crazy right, you're only being like
five dollars.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
Unbelievable. All right, go ahead, and you really went on
a Golden Groups cruiser. That's the best part about it.
Like sounds like a joke somebody. It was awesome, a
great time.
Speaker 6 (42:56):
Did they serve all soft foods? Since you guys?
Speaker 1 (42:58):
You know what Mary ay shay boy at the party
was wow. We went to bed at nine after bingo.
The apple sauce was pumping all They gave us extra cinnamon. Yo.
I'm telling you, yo, yo yo, make sure you go
to that one. Why because she's giving out the best
(43:19):
banana pudding.
Speaker 11 (43:20):
You know.
Speaker 6 (43:22):
Oh gonna lie, no not, I'm there, dude, pants fired?
Speaker 1 (43:26):
All right, man, let me go. I'm gonna beat your air.
Let me put on my kniper. I met a hottie,
you know. We had a wild night.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
Her teeth fall out and then and then I woke
up in the morning that was hair all over the
bed or whatever.
Speaker 1 (43:40):
I was like, man, that must have crazy. It must
have been a crazy night. Then I realized you had alopecia,
so it wasn't I thought something was shredding up her
wig Man dj ain't played nothing past nineteen sixty eight.
It wasn't It wasn't nothing a motown playing. Matter of
(44:06):
fact that I sayd DJ, I know what it was
a band. Hey, we had a rock rock Bronx. We
were talking about Lebron. I know this is much better
here we want yo. They had somebody who was shining up.
Somebody was shining up your cane throughout the day from
the hurricane. Hurricane they only had a kiddie pool because
(44:28):
they're like, we can't have them just turned around to
come back, because you're like, what happened to the show?
Go ahead, let's get it. I don't want to talk
about my stomach heads so bad. They did was show
pictures of their grandkids. Though ship this is little Timmy?
Speaker 10 (44:46):
Is this.
Speaker 12 (44:50):
You guys?
Speaker 1 (44:51):
All right? All right? Lebron said, was out here? Can
we hear it? Yeah? I play Lebron so I can
get my composer.
Speaker 12 (44:57):
The calves look amazing right now as well. The had
another opportunity. Yeah, I hope they. I hope they keep
it going. They got an opportunity to do something special.
So you know, I'm glad I was able to put
off first set to set the trend and hopefully would
keep it.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
Going Lebron about two years from being on that Golden
Girls troop trip too. That's how ODI is two more
years Lebron is on dude, do do do, thank you
for being a calv We'll be on there with you,
all right.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
One thing is he's always interjecting himself like this is
about the Calves, right, you gotta admit that, like oh
I started. No, no, no, this is a different team.
It ain't like you just left last year and now
we already know what you did, like you know, you're
not a person, but he's not part of this.
Speaker 1 (45:45):
This what's going on now. And the whole point is
this is a rebuild without you exactly.
Speaker 3 (45:49):
And number two, I don't hello, yes, you're hearing Rob
Parker defend Lebron. I understand why he would say we.
He's from Accri Park, that's his hometown. The Calves were
his team, like it, and he was drafted by them.
He played there twice. I could understand saying we, even
(46:11):
though he's with the Lakers now because he was a
part of their fier.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
When he closes his when he closed his eyes and
he thinks of like him as a basketball player, he
still sees himself as a calf. I don't think he
sees himself as as a member of the Heat. Obviously,
he's been the Lakers now for quite some time. That's
the funny part of it, is gonna be longer in
with the Calves, but a long time when when he
retires or whatever. If they were to put him on
(46:35):
with something or put up a statue, wore be in
Cleveland one hundred and nobody. Everybody knows that even though
he won two with Miami's one one, it's gonna be
the Calves without a doubt. And so that's why I
don't get mad at the weed he brought them, and
by them, I mean the city of Cleveland their first
pro championship in like fifty years. So he absolutely feels connected.
(46:55):
He still has family home. That's why I remember when
the Lakers went to play the CA it was a
big deal for Brownnie because they still have so much
of obviously their family, you know, the family is still
back in Ohio. So you get caught up in a moment. Obviously,
he says, we like I mean, it doesn't bother me
if all the things that we can make fun of
Lebron about or you know, nitpick about this one didn't
overly bother me with him saying we in a podcast,
(47:18):
you know what I mean, Like, it's just a podcast
Hill with a bunch of other or two other Ohio
natives and the Kelsey brothers. So that that to me
will be a big time reach if you have issue. Yeah,
I can't even find fault in it. It makes total
sense for that to come out or slip. I just said,
like just to interject himself in that.
Speaker 3 (47:35):
I remember when the when the Dodgers won the World Series, right,
and then he wanted a parade with them, you remember,
and the Dodgers and the Rams were like, oh uh
right remember that.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
It was like, yeah, I'm actually shocked. A haven't try
to remedy that. But obviously the world was literally it
was just different. It was a crazy moment. The moment
was passed.
Speaker 3 (47:54):
Like if you if you don't celebrate it at that point,
you can't come back two years later.
Speaker 1 (47:58):
I'm actually shut Later people didn't do it, not that
the Lakers would have organized it, just because remember people
were they were at that point almost had to stirt
like how's crazy, Like I just want to get out
of care, I want to do something, so I'm shot
Laker fans and oh, let's just go.
Speaker 3 (48:12):
It just didn't happen. And it was one of those
things that's sure you want to celebrate. I've covered them,
you know, down Broadway in New York. It's unbelievable with
the ticker tape and the paper flying everywhere and two
million people on the street. It's a it's a it's
a real like once in a lifetime kind of things
to take in. So it's pretty amazing. Oh, that was
(48:34):
Kobe's last game for me?
Speaker 1 (48:36):
Well, I didn't because I haven't done the whole parade thing,
but that was Kobe's last game for me where it
was just it was just utter mayhem. It was just crazy.
It was to be there, like you said, outside the
fanfare and all that. That was that for me.
Speaker 3 (48:48):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Speaker 1 (48:55):
Is it the Cavaliers? When you think of Lebron, his
career is over.
Speaker 3 (48:58):
I mean in Miami with the Big Three, he won
two championships, win four straights finals. So is it Miami
you think of Lebron?
Speaker 1 (49:08):
Is it Cleveland or championship with the Lakers, scoring title
with the Lakers, you know, or is it the Lakers
right which I mentioned his greatest teammate of all time
with the Lakers, bronni eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
You know, I'm not gonna give you your love on
that one. It is the odd couple.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
We want to hear from you on this worship Wednesday,
Rob Parker, kelvin Washington, right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (49:32):
Stick and stay unless you're losing your hair like Lebron.
Thank you for a be
