Speaker 2 (00:19):
You're listening to the best of the Odd Couple.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Well, it's just funny what qualifies as breaking.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
News these days, because according to ESPN Sham Sharania this morning,
that is on Monday morning, we had a breaking news
sounder that Jannis is not necessarily demanding a trade, or
that he's ready to demand a trade, or that he's
even considering a trade.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Just now open.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
He's now open to the idea if he were to
ask out that he might be open to the idea.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Let's not breaking news, you know what, Rob g In
a real journalism world, that would not make the paper
in the old days.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
It just wouldn't like they just put you gotta have
something that you would have to be substantial.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
He's saying he wants out, or the team saying we're
ready to trade.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
We may not just he's open. Teams have fielded calls
and are open to yes, not just like I mean,
I'm open to the idea that, you know, maybe kind
of sort of what there's still something there. Go ahead,
I'm gonna say this.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
If I'm the Milwaukee Bucks, I say thank you very much,
and I drive you to the airport.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
If I'm the Milwaukee Bucks, I'm dumping Giannis.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
And because this ain't what you said ago, I'm telling
you why.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Because you're Milwaukee, You're not gonna win. They've done everything
they could do for the guy, all right. They wanted
Damian Lillard. It didn't work out, but they went out
and got and traded away everybody for him. Okay, so
they've gone and done this. This is Milwaukee. They've won
a championship. I can name off the top of my head.
Twenty NBA teams would die to have won a championship
(01:54):
in the last four years, right, that would die four
or five years whatever it's been, right, including the New
York Knicks, who have won a championship since nineteen seventy three.
So I could go on the Brooklyn Nets who have
never won, and the Utah Jazz who have never won
a horn and all these teams, the Bulls Rummer wants
Michael Jordan left. I could go on and on and
(02:16):
on and they would all take it right, And the
idea that you're gonna do anything else, I don't want
anybody who doesn't want to be there. And what I'm
saying is you probably got the best out of him.
You got a championship, he stayed there, you paid him,
you made trade, you did everything you could do. Now
(02:36):
it's time that you have no more draft picks, you
have no young players, like this is the time to rebuild,
and you got what you were looking for. As the
Cleveland Cavaliers would they would have loved to have had
a championship four or five years ago, The answer would be, yes,
what do I have to give up to get me
a championship?
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Right? You would die to have a championship.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
As the Minnesota Minnesota timberwol who had Kevin Garnett, they
didn't win anything, right, you would take it, so be
happy with it, take it and move on.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
That's where I would be, I'm saying if I'm the Bucks, right.
So I know we talked about this a week or
so ago when the story came out, and you were
more inclined with Gianna stay there from the bucks, right.
I get what you're saying for me. I just think
this is a perfect example of what can be a
(03:29):
nice clean breakup, and whether that be professionally, romantically, relationally friends.
It hardly ever happens where it's a nice clean breakup,
and to me, that's exactly what this has the opportunity
to be. He's been there for a decade of plus
given it his all. Literally grew as a man, both
in stature and in size, and as a player came
(03:52):
in he was, uh, you know, he was not prepared
for the NBA, barely new basketball had to grow into
his body all of a sudden, became a Donnis and
the guy become a better player. Two time MVP has
won a championship. You literally, to me, couldn't draw it better.
A young man who comes to America, coming to America
the movie, comes with his brother, They come into the franchise.
(04:13):
They helped build up a franchise that helps build up him,
and to me, it was a perfect marriage and it worked.
And he has been the antithesis of trying to group
up with everybody, trying to do it this way, trying
to go that way. He just wanted to do it
the right way. Stay within the organization helped the organization build,
and they were able to do that. And I think
(04:34):
it's a perfect time for a clean split where it
doesn't have to be he hates the franchise, He talks
bad about the franchise, can never come back. Every time
he comes back, he's booed or where they hate him
because he held him hosts and did this and did that.
Sometimes in life, in profession, in romance, it's time for
a clean break. We can do it amicably. We can
see each other in the street still wave, say hello,
(04:55):
get a hug, how's your mom? How's everybody doing? And
to me, this is that he literally got them a champion.
They had had one since the seventy one or whatever
it was with Kareem Abdul jabal Jabbar. It was so
long ago I had a different name exactly. Okay, that's
how long ago, house Sender. He got them a ring,
got them some relevance, and got them a couple of time.
They can say we had a guy who was an
(05:16):
MVP a couple of times as well. Perfect time to
move on and get a haul, right, Hey, y'all. I'm
telling you now, I'm opening the options. I want to leave.
See what you can get. Here's two, three, four options
I would have loved to consider. Get the best. I
love the city in Milwaukee, I love the fans. I
want to do right. You guys, do right by me.
Get as many picks, get as many young talent as
you can. And I'm trying to be the new Oklahoma
(05:37):
City Thunder. I'm trying to be the Boston Celtics where
you got two or three guys out of the draft.
It was Marcus Smart, it was obviously Jalen Brown and
Jason Tatum. I'm trying to get the two or three
guys like the Warriors did. Can I get a Clay
Can I get a Draymond? Can I get a steph
and build and build up? I got break? Can I
get a Jamal? Can I get a Jamal Murray and
a jokicic the build up?
Speaker 4 (05:56):
The Dallas Mavericks will trade Antonio. I mean, now, Anthony
Davis to Milwaukee for Gianni's Will that be a great
trade or not? I'm talking about I'm talking about from
the standpoint.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Of like looking yeah and that well, they would literally
at this point, I don't know what your boy will
be doing, Nico.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
I mean, obviously getting Giannis is better than Ad, but
uh yeah, if I'm a d I got two or
three places I want to go. I want to help y'all.
I'm telling you, now, get as many picks, get as
many player as you can, so everybody I win, you win,
We both win, all right?
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven, seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Is it time for Giannis and the and the Bucks
to go? There? Separate ways?
Speaker 4 (06:35):
I say yes, You say yes, yep, but we have
different reasons why. We'll continue that conversation next with you.
It is the odd couple right here on Fox Sports
Radio on a Magic City Monday, Rob Parker kelvin Washington,
and don't forget about the new Bill Belichick song coming
up coming five.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
You're setting the audience up to be disappointed.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
I can say, no, stop it, No, it's not Rob G.
Did you hear it? I have heard it? That was
his review? Gee, how could you do that to me?

Speaker 1 (07:17):
There you have it right there. The Dallas Mavericks get
the number one pick in the NBA draft. Should we
just say they get Cooper Flag at this point, because
that's exactly who's gonna be a lot of people, rob G.
A lot of people, of course, have some thoughts to
say about this on social media. But before we get
to that, the play of the day was brought to
you by tire Reck. For over forty years, tirerec has
(07:38):
been helping customers find the right tires for how, what
and where they drive. Ship fast and free back by
free Road has a protection with convenient Insulation i'ption just
like mobile tire Insallation tyreck dot com. The way tire
bias should be back in eighty was that eighty five
Patrick Ewit. A lot of people joked the New York
Knicks was at a cold envelope, rob G. A lot
of people, including NBA players, got some stuff to say
(07:59):
on So that's right.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
It's eerily similar to what happened with Anthony Davis. You
recall you got traded to the Lakers, and then what
do you know, the New Orleans Pelican get the number
one pick for Zion Waives and that didn't really work
out too much for him. But in this case, Luca
Dodges gets traded and surprise, surprise, the Dallas Mavericks one
point eight percent chance of winning, they get the number
one pick, they capture the flag Cooper Flag. It's got
(08:22):
a slew of NBA superstars putting out some wild emojis,
including Kevin Love, who says, uh.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
What are we doing here?
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Lebron James, you know, being the guy that he is,
the king, nothing but laughing amojis.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
I think we all know what he's talking about. I
like Kevin Love putting some some words on it, like
what we're doing here? That's obvious if you're gonna get
a big man in the NBA like Wimby, where is
he laying the Spurs. I'm just saying, you know, I'm
not believing. Hey, listen, what did they hope to the Spurs? Why?
Why are they doing that? The Spurs have done great
(08:58):
developing thing is new Parker.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
They have like the five worst NBA Finals TV waitings. Ever,
like the sp I'm just saying from the league, it
doesn't make sense for Wimby to play in a small
market like that where they don't do anything.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Development, just like ten, fifteen, twenty years. Yeah, but I'm
just saying for the least star of my league, Wimby
going to the Spurs, I just don't see that.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
I'm not saying. And again I don't have any evidence.
I'm not naive, but I just I can't speak on.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Something that evident. But I also like to talk about
way and been back to the moon. Where's the Starbucks
on the moon? Where is the Trader Jones on the moon?
That is Unamerican of it? There would be a McDonald's
on the moon if we went there. I'm just saying,
let me stop before somebody actually believes me.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
This is again the conversation really becomes if you're the Mavericks,
are you happy you got your guy? Is that you
locked in for the next ten to fifteen years? Do
you feel trades Martin throughout the proposition of Giannis is
open to the idea of being traded. You call and say, hey, Dallas,
we got a thirty year old Giannis proven vet was
(10:04):
third in MVP voting. You know what he does? You
team him up with an Anthony Davis. You team him
up with the Kyrie you got something or do you
stick around new ownership, say, we got our guy for
the next ten years. Interesting, I think you're gonna stick
absolutely stay with Cooper Flag Well, well, hope you build
around that guy. Do you make a good point.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
But the one that's really picking up team and it
hasn't picked ups team now for months before we even
knew what pick they were gonna have, the San Choo
Spurs quietly left into the number two spot. They have
two picks in the lottery. The streets have been saying
for a minute now, Wemby Giannis Fox, I mean that's
they can make that trade happen without really giving up
(10:42):
much of anything in terms of their top end guys.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
I mean, I mean, I would love it if I'm Wenby,
because he's been know he's huge, he plays perimeter oriented,
whereas Giannis, even though he's a lot of agility, he's
more of a brute down there. So that could work.
Daron Fox said, obviously, get it wherever he would like that.
That would actually be kind of a nasty trio right there.
Can we abolish conferences? By the way, now that all
these guys are in the West, Well, that's the thing
(11:07):
that's the way keems. We talked about something earlier, some
of the idea that I don't want, that I don't
want the Leastern Conference. No one point know.
Speaker 2 (11:14):

Speaker 3 (11:27):
We made fun of Seam schern open the show, like, hey,
breaking news the idea of yan considered right, this is
like three steps above that, not quite breaking new because
we don't know what it is you mentioned. But Michael
Jeffrey Jordan, his airing is number twenty three, the goat,
the greatest of all time, has signed on to be
part of NBC's NBA coverage. The only problem is NBC
(11:49):
Michael Jordan pick your favorite reporter. Nobody has said and
knows exactly what he's gonna do, so he's gonna be
the term is special contributor to the NBA.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
We're gonna have to wait in the NBC. We're gonna
have to see what it is. Whatever this particular role is.
It ain't a Tom Brady type announcer. Rob you know,
ten years and almost nearly a half billion dollars.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Three hundred and seventy five, fully guaranteed more than he
made in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
It ain't that type of situation which obviously we don't
know money yet, but I mean where they announced like, hey,
it's going to be a ten year deal three seventy five.
So this isn't that. I think they're just the magnitude
of it was already big in of itself, like just
getting Michael Jordan, because he's kind of like the locknous monster,
the Bigfoot, Like you don't see him, you never hear
from him. He might pop up and smile and for
(12:40):
commercial suit or he might pop up and smile and something.
That's what made the last Dance so crazy was that
somebody who normally, especially post NBA, had become historically hidden
in private, opened up and let us in a little bit,
gave us some insight, gave him his thoughts on things,
a multitude of things, and obviously was you know, very
(13:02):
much in favor of him. But still we didn't see
that coming that we will be able to have ten
episodes of access to Michael Jordan. I think there's a
tendency to be like a little apprehensive because you haven't
heard from him and so by. But I think the
key part of this is contributing role, meaning we don't
know what it's going to be. And I think if
utilized correctly, this could actually be pretty cool because he's
(13:24):
been under the lessons moral rob kind of a Jay
Z interview. Jay Z doesn't do a lot of interviews.
When he does, it kind of makes noise because, oh, shoot,
we haven't heard from him so long, and that's been
Michael Jordan. So I think if Jordan is using the
right capacity, this could be all right. You don't use
him every day, and as an analyst, I don't think
that's where he would be best suited. I want to
(13:45):
hear a little bit more of the this is where
I took it personal or laughing at Gary Payton thinking
he was better than him. I want a little bit
of the snarky, honest Michael Jordan. So I would hope
if you get him on the court doing a breakdown
with Sgasja, you use a lot of the mid range.
I use him in Why No More? People use it
in midrange and they break it down, they talk a
little smack talk, a little what I would have did
(14:05):
to you back in the day, how I would have
guarded you some stuff like that show a little bit
of his personality. I think that would be great using
in that capacity, finding these ways to get him to
pull some inside of the player, having him do one
on one with some older players talking about the league,
where he's right in his comfort zone, right and they
get to talk, smack and have fun. He sit him
down with Reggie Miller and they go at it how
(14:26):
they used to go at it, or with like NBA
TV filling ours. I just want that's a contributed role.
I don't think he's necessarily.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
No, I'm not saying that either, But I think star
players have struggled, like really struggled on television.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Okay, Tom Brady is not like like hit it out
of park orlid. He's not a natural.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
He's not a lot of people don't have just having
gotten used to him yet, Like he's not a natural.
But the other thing is Joe Montano, a great player,
was terrible, all right in an analyst role. Uh doctor
j was on NBC was terrible. I could go on
and on on Emmitt Smith. You remember when Emma Smith
(15:10):
did do you remember?
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Sometimes I'm just saying I do, but some gidy was
just sitting there. We should have known.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
But I'm just saying, but there are guys, uh and
in this case, I you know, depending on what they have.
I just I'm not so sure how open and honest
Jordan's gonna be. And the documentary is different because remember
him and Charles Barkley fell out over Charles having comment
to be So that's what I'm trying to say is, oh,
(15:37):
we really expected Michael Jordan to take people a task,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Or really like that's why you don't put him in
that position because you're right, I don't.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
The only the only way, I gotta be honest, I
could see him even.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Remotely being successful at doing this.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
It's just like a kind of once a mom sit
down talk with somebody and maybe get into somebody just
about their feelings about basketball and what they're like and see,
you know what I mean, like like Mike making a
connection to a younger player, But but like criticizing a
coach or criticizing or having a debate on whether or
(16:17):
not you're.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
The go to.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
I don't see any of that making sense for Michael Jordan.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Enjoy just don't. He might also enjoy meeting. I don't
like to be the butt of the joke meeting child's
talking about me as an owner and this, that and
the other.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
It's not a butt of being honest about Michael Jordan's ability,
you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Some people can be honest. Some people can give it,
they can't take it, you know what I'm saying. So
maybe he couldn't take it, but he'd be comfortable giving it.
I really don't see that in Michael.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
Jordan's I would be surprised of him criticizing other people.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
That's why do breakdowns. So when you see Alex Rodriguez
getting that batter box, not literally, but you know, kind
of breaking down in that batter I would love to
see Jordan boom. This is where I'm talking about sga
is getting to the elbow. This is where I used
to kill people right here because everybody thought about me.
Is your airing this? But I'm also you know, putting
up buckets and min ras fradal it that kind of
stuff like man putting us insight into the goat? What
(17:12):
did he do? Talk about footwork, talk about the tenacity,
talk about the mental aspect of the game. That's where
Kobe was gonna be great. It was post career obviously
before his.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
Uh do I look at I look at Michael Jordan,
and I just I would rather see.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Him have conversations.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
Yeah, not not nuts and bolts, not doing tape or
anything like that like that that should be for coaches.
I would love to see if he can get these
guys to talk about basketball. And it's and a standpoint
of you know, like when they fell in love with it,
what is it about the game? You know, like like
a little deeper dive into thee.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
I don't know, but that's where I actually would go
to your normal take about journalistic. See journalistically, I think
he you get those people who know how to pucket,
you know, pluck and probably and ask great questions. I
think for him, like right now, I trying to warm
up with Julius Randall right now.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Like Michael Joran talking about somebody shot or how I'm
comparing it. I think it's hard for him to compare
his game to almost anybody. And the standpoint of, you know,
like well, you're this guy here and you're and and
now he's telling you about well, how come you couldn't
make that shot or or you like.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
That you do. This is the time. I would love
to see him in the gym, you know they little
little little seven minute packages before the game or something,
and him just kicking it in the gym with Tatum,
him just kicking it in the gym with that year.
All right, what's your work through? Walk me through this,
like you said, walk and talk a little bit. What's
the mindset? Look? Man? You know competition sometimes you Hey,
last year, I'm saying, let's say the Celtics get get
(18:47):
kicked out. I've been there before. It's when you lose
and you didn't think you what's the what's that like
when you know who knew the Knicks were gonna beat you?
Jason Tatum tellingim about Jaylen Brown telling him about that,
and then he goes through that. I just think he
can get that out of players, that conversation that that
maybe someone else couldn't get by just being literally the
greatest but like a player and just you know, chopping
it up. Because here's the thing. When you nip mentioned something,
(19:08):
I'm glad you brought Tom Brady, Joe Montana, some of
these Emma Smiths. While he was playing Jordan and you
were covering the league. Jordan was actually a good interview.
He was a good get after the game. He would
tell you what he thought. He was smooth, he was articulate,
he was honest. But he's also so far removed from it.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
And I think with his status I do as a
billionaire and as that like, do you really want to
be on there with you?
Speaker 1 (19:32):
That's what makes does Rob because he doesn't have to,
he's already tucked away. But for him to come and
do this, I think he wanted.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
I can't see him at the desk. I'm just being honest.
I can't see him at the desk. I could see
him doing a remote YEA, they're gonna break that.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
I don't see him at the desk, sitting there with
other people and then talking.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
About he's not gonna or somebody. I just couldn't see that.
They're gonna use him, and I think they should do cool.
That's why they didn't say he's an analyst. But for
him to get him, not to say that to a
cot figuring it out, but to him the budge, I
think is cool enough for him to even consider, Mike,
we want you back your prime. Your run was on NBC. Right.
(20:18):
People hear that music, they see you, they think of
that great era of basketball. They think Bob Costa is
calling his game a ma Ras Shott, who's like one
of your best friends. All that era we think of you.
Come on back. We're trying to bring back the league
and continue to help it rise. You're the guy from
that era of the nineties when we had our heyday
as NBC NBA on NBC. Come on back. We don't
(20:38):
even know how we're gonna use you yet. We want
to use you in some cool ways that will highlight
you at your strength. And for him to budge and
get off that rocking chair with a cigar and some
tequila or some bourbon, that says a lot to me, Rob,
because he's sitting up comfy doing what he does, making
one point two one point five million dollars a year
off of shoes and he don't have to do anything.
For him to get out that rocking chair, to get
(20:59):
away from the golf clubs, that says a lot. And
I think he's gonna be all in, So I'm being
cautiously optimistic for him to be involved. Just like the
last Dance for him to be like, all right, I'm
gonna give you all access that I never give him about.
It ended up being great, but that.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
Was that was different because that's his story and it
was his chance to get at people.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
I'm just saying it has to be a specific role.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
It's not like they could have easily said he's our
new Charles Barkley.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
NBC could have said that, but they know that, they
know that's not his role. And that's my main my point.
Maybe he does a he does a Isaiah Thomas Magic
Johnson sit down with Isaiah Thomas and my good luck
eight seven seven scrap it out with finally here. Look
can they heal up Rob? Can they wrap it up?
(21:47):
Piece it up
