Sweedie, there we go. Hey, a big show for us
ahead coming up on this Magic City Monday. Rob Parker
and my buddy Ryan Hollands, the former NBA ten year
vet who played on nine teams in ten seasons and
(01:51):
is now the color analyst for the Houston Rockets. Mister
Ryan Hollands, what's up?
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Ryan? Rob? What's up? Man with? Hey?
Speaker 3 (01:59):
You finally lifted my band from the show Man. I'm
glad to be back. Come on some time.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Never been you never been banned?
Speaker 2 (02:06):
No you kidding?
Speaker 1 (02:07):
No, no, no, you're thinking of other people. I don't
ban people. I just work here. You know that you keep.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Talking about Halliburton's dad. Man. I feel like you know
you pushed me out too.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
See uh oh, I can't wait. We got a lot
to get to Ryan. I'm doing great. How are you
on this holiday? All good?
Speaker 2 (02:23):
I'm doing good, Man, doing good.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Good to here for you, no doubt, And of course
you could check out Ryan on the weekends here on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, let's welcome in the Odd
Couple crew because we wouldn't be able to do this
fine radio program without him. Shaye is our producer.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Get be back, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Martin Weiss is at the anchor desk. Elijah is our
social media guru. Yeah, and he's working on the holiday
from the regular crew. Everybody's off except from being Elijah
and on the ones and twos. There you go and
(03:03):
Mary Mary. So we got a full show for the
next three hours. Get comfortable if you're driving around, driving
back home, whatever in the backyard. Still listen to the
radio or whatever. We're here and we're gonna want to
hear from you as we go forward. And Ryan, let's
start here. You brought it up a little bit. Tyreese
(03:24):
Halliburton's dad was banned from the games by the Indiana
Pacers after he had an incident. And Shay will set
us up and then we'll get going. All right, here
we go, Shay sweet So Yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
Earlier today an article came out that Tyle's Halliburn's dad
will be allowed to attend Idiana Pacers games home games
in a suite, beginning with Tuesday's Game four against the
New York Knicks. So that's a pretty big game to start.
John Halliburton has not attended a game after it was
decided he would not attend home or road contest following
an on court confrontation with Bucks forward Giannis on April
(03:59):
twenty ninth.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
What do you guys think about this?
Speaker 1 (04:01):
All right, I'm gonna go right here Ryan. Of course
he still should be banned. No if ANNs or butts
what he did was heinous from the idea of running
on the court after a game. Should know better. Anybody
(04:22):
else would probably be banned for a long time, if
not life, if they had done the same thing. I
get it, his son is playing, and you gotta be
careful rules or rules, and just because it's somebody's dad
or somebody in that situation, you can't play favorites. And
what was the point on banning him for a handful
(04:43):
of games if you didn't really mean it and you're
bringing him back so quickly, he should not have been
back for the entirety of the postseason. That's what he
lost when he lost his train of thought for a
couple of minutes or whatever was his euphoria of his
son winning. And there's gotta be rules and standards because
(05:06):
people will look back at this for other fans who
run out on the field or the court and say, well,
why would I be banned for life? And somebody else
did the same exact thing, and they were back in
five or six games. So you gotta be careful what
you're wishing for. There were Yankee fans trying to rip
the ball out of Mookie Betts's glove. They were in
(05:26):
the stands, Mookie was reaching in the stands and they
were over zealous trying to knock the ball out. Those
guys got banned for life, I think from Yankee Stadium.
They told him they were season ticket holders. Don't come back.
So which one is it? Do you not want people
to run on the court or in the fee, on
(05:49):
the field or whatever, Or is it okay if you're
a family member. If it's okay, Ryan Hollins, because you're
a family member, he never should have been suspended.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
See that's dire for Rob. You set me up. See
here's the thing. I agree with you. It's not okay.
And what he did was dangerous and when he hit
the floor, it was and Rob you know this. It
was a very emotionally charged time and if Gianni's had
a reaction, it would have been something that he would
have never gotten back for the rest of his life
because the reaction, and we saw the males in the palace.
(06:22):
Somebody walks upon you with any energy or waving something,
it could flip.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
He could have got decked and one on you all
a sudden.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Maybe he doesn't know that that's Halliburton's dad, right, I mean,
does he did he know? How would he know that
that's Halliburton's dad?
Speaker 3 (06:36):
At this point, you know, I've been to Indiana and
seeing when we played against the Pacers, my rockets, and
you see him. He's quite noticeable. You know, he speaks,
He's a figure in the building. And what he did
was dangerous. He could have got decked. Emotionally, if somebody
snaps in that moment, especially your season's over, your frustrated
Damian Lillard's out with the Achilles. I get that part.
(06:59):
Now here's the reality. Would my father have done what
he did? Maybe not, But from an emotional standpoint, parents
are unreasonable. Mister Halliburton is very much involved, and when
guys make plays, there's talunting that goes back and forth. Now, Rob,
I'm not saying it's right, but what I am saying
(07:19):
is that he's not a regular fan and I love
what he's getting.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
But wait a minute, hold on, let me ask you this.
Thank you to let you finish. Here's my issue. I've
been covering the NBA since nineteen eighty seven. I'd be
hard pressed to think of another parent who ran out
on the court in that fashion, I'm telling you, And
that's almost forty years of covering the league. If you
(07:43):
have some let me know.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
How about this one? About this one? And it probably
happened so long ago that you forgot. And if I'm
not mistaken, Lebron.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
James, Mom, she wasn't on the court.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
No, listen to me, Rob, She wasn't on the court.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
She suld underneath the basket, remember it.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
And and her son took a very hard foul and
they had to restrain her. She didn't get on the court.
But what if what if they weren't there to restrain her.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
I'm asking you, Ryan, you played ten years. Give me
another example of somebody.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
I want you to acknowledge what happened if she remember it?
But what happened? She got sent to the suite. She's
still attends game. She got sent to.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
The came with being said, she did not run on
the court, and who was the other one?
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Hold one? What if she jumped in and grabbed the player?
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Who was u, I'm the coach of the Kings. Now,
I'm just forgetting his name. Whose wife Doug christ Christie's wife, remember,
wanted to fight him. She's at every game. She would
traveled with him. And if she get a coaching Josh
sister coaching job too. I'm just asking.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
There are moments that happened. It wasn't by any level,
but remember PJ Tucker. We all had a smile and
a hug because there were two ut guys at PJ.
Tucker and Durant and they're going nose and knows and
they're boys. And he looks over Mama said, don't stop
hitting my boy like that.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
I love.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
She didn't go on to court, don't didn't she didn't?
Speaker 2 (09:12):
She did not.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
It ain't the same. You remember the bet you just
said it.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
What could have ensued?
Speaker 1 (09:19):
What if Yanni's for a split second of was like
who is this and and throws a punch and a
melee like that. The palace happens as people are on
the court. You don't know, is that fans? Is that
somebody's pop? What's going on? Did security just get breached?
Speaker 2 (09:36):
You don't know? Hear me, Rob in the moment hear me, Rob,
I'll give you this. You're not wrong.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
But the NBA got this right, and they got this
right because it's an entertainment league.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Everybody is not fair.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
And Tyre's Halliburton has pushed himself in a position where
he could potentially be and he is one of the faces.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Okay, So why suspend them at all? Why suspend them
at all? Ryan Hollow?
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Because you have to do something? Why suspend Job Moran? No?
Speaker 1 (10:03):
But why suspend John as you had for something that's
totally different?
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Why is it different? John Moran?
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Now this had a been in your time. But did
you say job will be done?
Speaker 2 (10:13):
No?
Speaker 1 (10:13):
But this my point is what did he miss? He
missed one like after that thing happened to the next round.
What did he miss two or three games? It's not
a punishment. What did they send them to bed with
the cupcakes and milk? That was the punishment. You gotta
go to bed with cupcakes and milk.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Couldn't ask you this? Wow, let me ask you this
game one in New York. That shot that haw the
burden hit.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Yeah, I'm having to New York.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Don't answer, don't answer. How big was that shot? Pretty
big shot?
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Right?
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Right, he mean, he mean, so don't just say it
was one game. Now, don't just don't pretend like it
was one game that was a shot for the ages
that a father should be able to enjoy the sons. Now,
here's here's why I stand with you now, mister Halliburton.
I was against the band until he went on the
internet after the game saying that he didn't go to Jannis.
(11:09):
And mister Halliburton has to realize it's not all about
him in their moments that my father, I love him,
I don't have him here today.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
I wish I could hug them.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
I wish I wish I had Halliburton's dad. I wish
I had my dad to hug on too. Right now too,
but I wish I had my dad to hug.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
If my dad had done that, I would understand. No,
I would you. You will send them Listen, and here's
the treatment he's gonna get. And this is why I
like it. He's gonna get the Taylor Swift treatment. And
if you look at the Indiana Pacers, they need some life.
They didn't have national tymes. They're more good luck. W
NBA team is more covered than they are. That's okay,
(11:46):
that's a let's get contest if they're covered now. In
the next two weeks when she's out, let's see what
the coverage is. Hey, people are trying to get refunds
on those tickets, Are you kidding? My friend lives in Indianapolis.
He told me he said he had two tickets for
the for the w NBA team and he left him
on the win shield. As soon as she got hurt.
He came back out of the store and there were
(12:07):
four tickets on his windshield.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
No problem.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
But there, man, I think the NBA got it right.
And here's the reality, Rob, And this is what this
is what you know? You know this better than me, Rob.
You taught me this. It ain't fair. It ain't And
maybe Halliburton hitting no shot, skips his dad a chance
to be back.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
You play well, you want your dad back? Play well? Right?
Speaker 1 (12:31):
We want to hear, We want to hear from you.
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine to nine six sixty three sixty nine. It is
the odd couple on a Magic City Monday. Uh Is
it cool for them to lift the band on Tyreese
Halliburton's dad and allow him to attend games or no,
(12:54):
they're being easy on them and they're giving them the
star treatment that he doesn't deserve. Rob park Ryan Hollins

Ryan Hollins for being here on the holiday hanging out
(14:27):
with me. I know he had fought hard not to
be on the radio with me for years and he
finally caved and he's back.
Speaker 7 (14:36):
I'm glad my band is lifted. Man, you were not
fan me and mister Allaburton. Man, you know my ban
is gone. I'm back. Is a privileged drive.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Unbelievable. Well, I do want to ask you a couple
of quick questions. The last WNBA game? I wait, was
the last time you went and paid for tickets at
a WNBA game?
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Why are we doing this? I don't pay for the
NBA tickets. Stop it, don't do that. Don't do that.
Don't do that, don't pay the NBA tickets. Okay, to
stop here, Rob, we know that.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
What was the last w n b A game. You
want to sparksk it was the Sparks gave is that right?
Speaker 2 (15:12):
It was?
Speaker 3 (15:13):
It was kind enough Cannus Parker was playing kind of
they put they threw me on the jumple trap.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Man.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Did it really wild?
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Yeah? It was a cool thing.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
It was you on a whole section by yourself, right.
Did they just stop it?
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Man?
Speaker 6 (15:24):
No?
Speaker 2 (15:24):
It was on the front road. Man, it was pretty cool.
All right.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
I'm just asking that's all.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
That's all good.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Why would you say that? Why would you say that?
Speaker 1 (15:35):
All right, let's talk n B A. You know more
about the n B A. What is that fair to say?
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Yes? Rob? What stop? Man?
Speaker 1 (15:42):
I'm just saying, you know more about the NBA and
a w n B A. That's all all right? Uh, Shane,
can you set the table? Make sure you put on
the right side and the napkin? Do you know what
what side does the four go on? I'm gonna ask Ryan, Ryan,
what's when you set the table?
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Where's the fore go on the right side with your
right hand?
Speaker 1 (16:04):
And what does the knife and spoon go the left side?
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Very nice? Okay, all right, thank you. I just want
to check your education that you see la there should
be two for us, a salad for two.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Yeah, yeah, two of them?
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Okay? I remember the episode on The Good Times where uh,
what was the youngest son? I just forgot his name, Michael,
And he was talking about standardized test. Do you remember this?
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Ryan?
Speaker 1 (16:30):
We run? Did you ever see this? And we run? Okay,
So what the big thing was? It was talking about
the way standardized tests are and he said, you know,
cup and blank, right, So like the answer was like
cup and saucer, cup and table, cup and floor, cup
and something else, right, And so obviously the answer is
(16:52):
cup and saucer. But if you lived in a house
where you didn't use saucers, the correct answer for you
is cup and table. But you would be mark wrong.
But in your house you don't use saucers, So is
that an incorrect answer?
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (17:10):
Serious?
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Sound you see what I'm saying. It was really interesting
to me. This is what they did on the show
to talk about how a standardized test somebody could be
it's your environment, right, which could be the right answer.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
But anyway, but you can't watch a WNBA game.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
I never missed a WNBA. I never watched it, so
I never missed it. Oh my gosh, man, Okay, all right, Ryan,
set us up. The Knicks are alive. They're alive.
Speaker 4 (17:37):
They are definitely alive.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
So yesterday it was Game three of the Eastern Conference Finals,
and it really did look like the Knicks we're going
to go into that three to zero hole that no
team has ever gone out of. But in the fourth quarter,
behind the back of Kat, they were able to get
back from a twenty point deficit and win that game.
Do you think this is something that the Knicks will
(17:59):
be able to keep doing or was this just a
one hit wonder for them? You guys take it away,
all right.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Ryan, here we go. I'm gonna start this because everybody
right away was like, oh my god, the pacher let
the Knicks off the hog. They were now by twenty
in the first half. When this is the NBA. First
of all, the Pacers were never sweeping the Knicks. People
got it all twisted because the Knicks choked down Game one, right,
(18:27):
they choked, And so people thought that this was gonna
be a sweep automatically because all the Pacers won two
games in Madison Square Garden. Ryan, not before the series,
not during the series. They were not gonna sweep the Knicks.
And it ain't like the same with a twenty point lead.
(18:49):
You do NBA games every night. You know what I'm
talking about. A twenty point lead in the first half
with threes. That ain't no big dead, that ain't no game.
You can't come back in the second half, and the
Knicks were playing for their lives. They knew that they
couldn't go down all three. I'm not shocked at all
that they won, but I'm not convinced that the series
(19:09):
has turned. You can't lose the two games that they
lost at home, especially a fourteen point lead Ryan Hollins
with two minutes and thirty eight seconds. The record was
teams that had a lead of fourteen or more with
two thirty eight to go nine hundred and ninety four
(19:30):
and one. Nobody loses that game. That'll be the game
that they'll come back. And remember when the Knicks lose
the series, they weren't gonna get swept. But they're not
overcoming those two losses at Madison Square Garden. I don't
believe the Knicks are any close to the winning I
think that they blew that game is what turned the series,
(19:51):
and the Pacers will play better in Game four at home,
win and they'll be up three to one, and then
they'll have three chances to be the Knicks to end
the series. The series didn't turn to me.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Let me ask your son, Robert, are you shocked that
Tips played his bench?
Speaker 8 (20:07):
Are you shocked that he in real minutes he went
against what he had been doing like this was you
know what, Maybe he could call JJ Reddick and let
JJ Reddick play benches too.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
You know.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Now, here's what we can't do because of one series,
because of a bad matchup. And it is a bad
matchup because Indiana moves the basketball. And sometimes we're looking
at Oklahoma City and we're talking about them. Now, we're
not talking about that for the offense. We're talking about
there for their defense. They get after you, they climb
into the ball. Well, just as good as Oklahoma City
(20:43):
is on defense. The offense of the Pacers is that good,
and their offense is so good. Sometimes your best defense
is your offense. They moved the basketball, they kicked the
ball ahead. They play together. They have guys that are
willing to hit shots. Nim Hard Nie Smith Okay went off. Halliburton,
you know his name, And that's why his dad's gonna
be back, Rob because he played. So you want to
(21:05):
talk about got rub it in we got a rub
it d rob. But here's the reality again, it is
the Pacers series to lose.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
You get to the point and when you tell me, but.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
You didn't believe they were gonna sweep them, I'm all right, nobody,
Come on.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
You know you remember that Buffalo wild Wings commercial where
they hit the button and they're like overtime, Like, I
wont seven games out of this series because Indiana is
fun basketball.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
The next last year and seven in the second round
if you remember.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
They did, they did.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
But again, I think that this Indiana Pacers team is
highly disrespected.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
As a team.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
We know Halla Burton is a star, is highly disrespected.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
But they're fun. I'm sorry, they're not sexy. Okay.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
The biggest personality on their team has been suspended indefinitely.
That's Haller Burton's dad. Okay. But again, they played the
right way. They moved to basketball. Rick Carlisle played for
Rick Carlisle. He's one of the better coaches X and
OS wise that you're gonna find, and he's one of
the rare coaches that cannot just will coach a championship.
He can coach a rebuild and he's done an unbelievable
(22:07):
job there over in Indiana. But again it's the ball movement.
And then when I'm looking at it, Tips is all
of a sudden playing his bench, which tells me he's panicking.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
And I thought the one thing to look forward to.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
I agree with that because all of a sudden he
never did that, right, you never did that, But all
of a sudden you're down all too right.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Here this I want you to look forward to this
and tell me, am I crazy? I thought that the
big message that was sent to me. This is a
big message that Tip sent Brunson in towns don't.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Play well together.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
I thought he made a big focus to centralize the
offense around Carlin.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
I agree with that. And because their games, seriously, Ryan, well,
I'm watching and I don't even know Cats in the game,
Am I right? Like like like like you're like, is
that his fault?
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Though?
Speaker 1 (22:54):
No, no, no, no, no, say what I'm saying, because it's
so it's just that Brunson has to have the ball
and dribble seventeen eighteen seconds. I just don't see Cat involved.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
That's all, okay, But but now is this is that
a panic move? Do you think for him to say
that or do you think because when I see it,
I like it because it's the right thing.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
But I like I like.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
I like coaches who make adjustments. Okay, and if you're good,
you want to be stubborn, you can be stubborn and lose.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Okay, hold on, what did you just say? You like
what I said?
Speaker 1 (23:28):
I like coaches who make change.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
You feel like that's tips and tips is no coaching.
No what I'm saying that poem, I'm not saying.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
I'm not because I'm giving him credit for loosening up
what he had been doing and realizing, dude, it ain't working,
it ain't working, and you need to do something different.
This is why when coaches do that and just keep
doing the same thing, you go to yourself. Well that
makes no sense. So so I understand why he would
(23:57):
make a change and finally go to the bench not
wear out all of his guys.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
You don't think it's too late.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
You don't think him doing it at this point is
too because it's not too.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Late because they want a game, Ryan, and now they
have a chance, at least they have a chance to
come out and win game two, and then it's the
best of three. So no, it's not too late. You
still got another team has to win four games.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
I think it's the right thing, but I don't know
if it's the right time. And the reason I say
I don't know if it's the right time is because
you have teams that are willing to change. You know,
the coaches are known because they'll change up the starting lineup.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
You know, they'll go to.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
The hot hand, They'll they'll go nine or ten deep.
You know their coaches. Em Udokas is that man. He'll
sub a guy. It doesn't matter who it is. And
you haven't seen this from Tips ever. And now you're
seeing it. You didn't see it from him with Chicago,
you didn't see it. You know what they're run last year.
I mean, do you think so? You really think that
(24:55):
this is a good move for him all of a
sudden to do this and understand that Indiana now knows
that Tips would do this, it's fine.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
And the reason that your time that your questioning whether
the time is right is because your rolex has two
l's in it, so probably probably not working.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
No, Well, you're gonna make changes.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Come on, Ryan, you gotta make change, right about this?
Speaker 2 (25:20):
All right?
Speaker 1 (25:20):
Let's do this I want, I want to get eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine,
six sixty three sixty nine. Are the Knicks back in
this series? Ryan Hollins.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
I don't think they're back in the series, but I
wonder I wonder from you, since you're you're getting two
feet into this, okay? Should Tips be under scrutiny for
the way he's coached with all the success they've had,
and and how great Brunson's played, and how great Towns
has played in moments and what they did to the Celtics.
Should we be scrutinizing to im tip it?
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Yeah, well, there's gonna be scrutiny if they lose. But
when they win, coming off a win where he finally
relents and gives in and makes it changes, you gotta
tip your cap that at least he wasn't too stubborn
to say no, this is my way and I'm not
gonna change it. But we want to hear from you.
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox? Or the Knicks?
Have they turned this series around? Do you think they
(26:14):
can still overcome those two bad losses at home and
win this series? I'm saying no way know how but
I never thought it would be a sweep. I don't
think the Knicks are back. I think that they gotta win,
and I never ever believe that the Pacers were going
to sweep the Necks. We want to know from you,
what do you think on the Knicks back or not?
(26:35):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, It is The
Odd Couple on a Magic City Monday. Try the limon
pepper Wings. They are delicious right here on Fox stick

Gamble, he's the managing editor. We'll talk some baseball with him.
But I do want to Scarce give Ryan a shout
out first of all for working filling in for Kelvin
on this holiday and number two earlier this year. Ryan
was a guest at my class via zoom at USC
and my sports reporting class and he was great. If
the kids really loved it. And Ryan, I'm all sincerity.
(28:42):
You know, I'm just be messing with you, but I
appreciate you seriously. It's cool.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Did they remember anything I said?
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yes, yes, I had a good class and some real
good kids and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
No, they like that.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
I'll honest you were you know what I mean because
you don't pull any punches.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
No, I didn't.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
We have fun. You got a good group. You're doing
a good job, Rob. I wish I had a mentor
like you when I was younger, not like like you
came in. I think I was like thirty. It was
probably about thirty six when you came into my life.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Right, I know. I think I made a couple of
stride with you, though, I do. I think because when
we were doing a lot of though am five seventy
here in.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
La we got a lot, got in trouble man taught
me off the ledge a few times.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Yes, but now look at you. How many years you've
been in Houston.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Now this is my fourth year.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
That's unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
The team is red hot. I think we had the
best thing cooking in the league. We used to come.
There's a lot exciting.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Is there a chance, Is there a chance that Duran
or somebody's coming, or like, is there some player or something.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
I think the biggest thing is that Houston's in a
good job. And this is always a good thing in life.
Is Houston has options. You know you can you can
stay with a good thing. And you see a lot
of the older guys getting injured and can you make
it through the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
You got a nice young team, but sometimes just add
maybe a love a veteran player.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
You got option to go either way. Life is about options, Rob,
don't just just.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
I know I found that out with my wife.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
You know, she had an.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
Option, so she took it. I'm just saying.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
I got that. All right.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Hey, let's talk Los Angeles Dodgers. You grew up here
in the LA area. Everybody knows how people love the
Dodgers here, right. They sold four million tickets. I mean, Ryan,
I'm not telling you anything new, but I mean it's incredible.
And since they got sho hal Tani and just the
(30:39):
interest with the Dodgers and everything. And I'm starting to
watch show Hayes not nearly having the year he had
last year. He was unbelievable. The first to get fifty
stolen you know, fifty or more stolen bases and fifty
or more home runs never done. Baseball has been around
for three hundred years, or at least it seemed like that,
you know, forever, right, ryot But now Shae Otani's been
(31:05):
pitching right like off the mound, getting ready like he's
ready to come back. Pretty soon. Yeah, and we're going
to start soon. Just give us a little update, am
I right?
Speaker 4 (31:16):
He's yeah.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
So he's been doing he's been before every game doing
a little bullpen pitches.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
He looks great.
Speaker 5 (31:22):
Actually, the Dodgers just put out a video yesterday before
their game of him throwing curveball. He's kind of getting ready.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
He's striking the first pitching through Ryan though, they're still
looking for the ball, but they think he'll be all right.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
But he is looking good, and the Dodgers are thinking
about throwing him into the rotation soon, especially with where
their current pitching staff is at.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
Rob, what do you think about this?
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (31:46):
And and Shae, I want you to be involved. I
want you know.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
I remember when I took a hundred off you.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Yeah, do you have to bring that up again?
Speaker 4 (31:54):
Come on, I'm gonna keep bringing it up.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
That was the World Series. He clipped me for a hundred. Ryan,
I had the Yankees, he had Dodgers. But anyway, my
point here is, as I'm watching and I understand how
important pitching is and all the other stuff, he's not
having a year that he had a year ago already,
and now you'd have to take him out out of
the lineup. Hold on up, just wait, you got to
(32:18):
take him out of the lineup, right, Ryan, He can't,
he can't do him bold. You got to give him
time so that he can get ready to have his start, right,
So probably miss a game there. And here's the other thing.
You're not stealing fifty bags if you're pitching. Okay, you
can't afford to expose that arm you're comparing.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
Okay, you expect him have it. I'll let you. I'll
let you finish here round Okay.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
All I'm saying is and I'm gonna say this to
Ryan first is Babe, Root did both. He pitched and
he hit. And guess what he wound up doing. He
turned into a full time hitter because they couldn't have
this guy wasting time on the mount. Ryan, am I crazy?
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Here's the thing I guin he's a unicorn. No, no, no, yeah,
I don't think you're absolutely crazy.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
There's a there's a risk that he couldn't get injured
doing it.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
He's unbelievable healing.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
Basis, Am I right? If you're gonna back patch, I
hear you.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
But at the end of the day, this was this
wasn't even the same century that we're talking to. You're
bringing up baby group. I don't really want to hear
that from you. And here's the thing, Rob, what's the term, right?
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Ro Oi? Right? Return on investment? How much money did
they pay? Seven hundreds?
Speaker 1 (33:33):
That's seven hundred, seven hundred.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
We didn't pay you seven hundred, pay Rob.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
They didn't pay this man seven hundred million dollars just
to be a good hitter. They paid this man seven
hundred man because he's all that in the back of chips.
They need everything from a Robs. Are you kidding me
that you're telling me that, oh, he's injured. Players get injured.
That is a part of the game. He's a unique talent.
And as a fan, are you telling me?
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Rob?
Speaker 3 (33:58):
Speak to me if you're a fan of the game,
because there's an entertainment value, and you're the MLBT pro right,
And if you're paying all this money and a Dodger
dog is like seventy bucks a dog? Right, you going
to the game? So y'all telling me that you didn't
pay this man. You paid him to see a pitch
hand hit?
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Rob? Are you kidding me? Right now?
Speaker 1 (34:17):
I'm just saying, just answer the question.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Did you know seventy did pay him out your dog.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
Okay, they did pay him the seven hundred million, but
they also just paid Juan Soto seven sixty five. He
ain't pitching, He just hit hing Ryan And I'm gonna
say this, Shay, come on, I know you're a Dodger fan.
I'm waiting and go ahead.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
He's ready for you.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
I okay, I'm just gonna respond to what you said. Obviously,
they're paying him seven hundred million dollars. The babe ruth
shouldn't even be talked about right now. Okay, Tommy Tommy
Johns wasn't even a thing when he was playing.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Yes, but he him and babe, what are you on
the two last players who did it? That's the only
reason I bring it out so so.
Speaker 5 (34:57):
First off, when you have a player like this that
is able to do it, why would you take that
away from him? Why would you take that away from
the sport? Second off, you're trying to compare his current
show his current stats last year. Last year was literally
like a once in a lifetime.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Fifty to fifty is unheard of, that's never been done,
but probably will never get. This year, he has nineteen
home runs only nineteen home runs, but only thirty three
RBIs only thirty three? RBIs could that's good?
Speaker 2 (35:30):
What eight way?
Speaker 1 (35:31):
He had one hundred and thirty last year, Ryan, he's
gonna have seventy this year. He's gonna be off sixty.
And when he's your pitching, he'll be off even more.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Are you worried about his numbers? Are you worry about
the Dodgers winning? Now?
Speaker 3 (35:43):
I can give you something if you say, maybe limit
his pitching. Okay, bring him along when you need him,
make sure he brings his value. But to say, if
we're not wrong, right, well, why would you just take
it completely out of the equation? Why take it completely
out of the equation yourself?
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Wouldn't even want to come and just see him do
one thing? Rob?
Speaker 1 (36:03):
No, I get it, But as I start to think
about it, I just look at his value as a
hitter and what he brings to the lineup, And now
you're gonna start taking that out. He can't be aggressive
on the basis because you got to protect that arm
right when you start thinking about pitching. I just don't
think he can. So a lot of stuff changes for him,
and we're seeing it already. I don't know how you
(36:24):
have nineteen home runs and thirty three RBI.
Speaker 5 (36:26):
Well, because the Dodgers can't get on base. It's that's
the only thing. It's a home run or it's either out.
It's that's almost every time. But I want to show
his problem. It's not show he's fun leadoff hitter. He's
getting a home run. He had a home run the.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
Last okay, But the difference is last year was a
leadof hitter and he had one hundred and thirty. RBIs
getting way more on baseless.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
Shaw was hitting singles, so rookie was doing doubles. That
was every other apat.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
So now you're telling me that it's cut in half,
that that the people down at the bottom of the
line are cut in half. Or is he just not
getting hits when people are on base? That's what I'm
I want you to look at his runners and score
his hitting batting average.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
Okay, I'll look at her right now, MLB bro.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
He's looking that up. Let me let me ask you something,
MLB bro.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
I just said, MLB bro, what's the most valuable position
in baseball?
Speaker 1 (37:20):
Pitching is big time? Okay, but also having a great hitter.
He did something last year all I'm saying is fifty
home runs, fifty stolen base, one hundred and thirty RBIs
and now he's on pace for seventy.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Or sixty five. The most valuable position? Is that? Right? Why? Why?
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Why don't God screen her? Would you completely take it
out the equation? I can understand if you said, let's
limit his pitching. Okay, let's limit the chance of injury.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Let let's h.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Okay, here's my back. You ready for the Parker pushback
the Dodgers? Bro?
Speaker 2 (37:57):
No, here you go.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
The Dodgers won World Series last year, and guess who
didn't pitch show El Tani. He didn't pitch for the
Ryan and they won the World Series without him pitching
because he had a monster year at the plane.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
When did it happen last year? What makes you think
last year and this year the same?
Speaker 1 (38:17):
I'm not saying, but you know, come onb bro, what
makes you think it's? Did you find out what he
had runners his corporated?
Speaker 4 (38:26):
You looking at it right now? Before we do that.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
No, I want the numbers. Don't him all.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
The next time you're hearing me, I'll give you the number.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
No, I want him right now.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
I'm looking at it right now.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
Yeah, Shaye has him and he knows what I'm talking about.
They're trying to make it like, oh, nobody's on mage.
That's why he has a thirty three.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Rob, you're the manage expert for right now if you
step in right and your wife is a great cook.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
And she's not just a great cook, she's great looking.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
She looks amazing, and she marries you, and all of
a sudden, it's I don't know if I can do
this cooking done anymore? Man. Come on, Rob, I oh
you need to look saying the cooking. That's what you
signed up for, seven hundred million in the bank.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
Come on, big fellow, All right, let's do it.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, Ryan says you
paid them for the both pitching and hitting. He should
do both. I'm skeptical. I'm saying he should be in
the lineup every day swinging that bat. They won a
World Series without him, and maybe they can win another one.
Speaker 4 (39:31):
What do you think?
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Eight seven seven ninety nine On Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine, It is the
odd couple On a Magic City Monday, Rob Parker Ryan
Hollinds filling in for Kelvin Washington right here on Fox
Sports Radio, and you know what you need to do,
stick and stay unless your wife can't cook and look
(39:53):
good in the US event.
