Speaker 2 (00:22):
You're listening to the best of the Odd Couple.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
That's right, it is The Odd Couple.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
Rob Parker, kelvin Washington on a Magic City Monday, Thank
you for rocking with you, boys, We appreciate you as always.
Coming up this hour, don't forget we're gonna have some
more conversations about the NBA Finals.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Looking forward to having that in a little bit.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
But we got some special things happening in the baseball
world today, Rob. People will be clamoring for this to
happen for a long time, a couple of years to
be exact, and that is to see show, hey Otani
do the other thing that he does so well, which
is to pitch.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yes, that's why he's pitching tonight.

Speaker 5 (01:04):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
The opener as they call him, will pitch probably one
or two innings. Hasn't pitched been on the mound like
since two thousand and three missed all of last year,
and that's going to be interesting.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, people are again. This is one of the things.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
This is why when you look at the all the
numbers and all the conversations that I had about the Dodgers,
Like we had the Athletic poll where they pulled over
one hundred and something players and Baseball mob and just
asking him throughout the year different questions, and one of
them was just like, who do you love to see?
Who's the most exciting? And it blew everyone else away.
I think it was twenty nine of the one hundred

(01:40):
and something votes and the next closest was like fourteen,
I believe, and Judge only had five, which was crazy.
I didn't expect to be that low. I didn't think it,
you know. And so people want to see this other side.
And player said that, man, this guy's crazy. You got
to stop everything to watch him. He's a freak. He
might be the best baseball player ever. This is coming
from his piers, guys and the majors. But you have
some thoughts on what about his uniqueness of what makes

(02:01):
him special?

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Yeah to me, and I'm gonna be just straight up
o Tani has to be a unicorn for him to
be the greatest player, the best player, the love that
he gets, it's all about that because he's doing something
nobody's done since the twenties in Babe Rute. If this

(02:25):
was O Tani the pitcher, he's not that good. And
what I mean by that is he not winning. To siye, y'all,
you wouldn't be considered the greatest pitcher, just the guy.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
He'd be a.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
If Otani was just the hitter, just a hitter, Yeah,
I'm gonna tell you, just a hitter, he ain't better
than Aaron Judge.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
He wouldn't be the best hitter in the game.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
And that's what I'm trying to say is o Tani
needs both parts, the pitching and the hitting, to be
this out of the world soon superstar player that everybody
talks about. Because last year he didn't pitch, and guess what,
the Dodgers won a World Series. O Toanni didn't hit

(03:12):
the World series. Guess what, the Dodgers won a World Series.
And I'm not trying to say that he's a bum
or he can't play, but his stardom is solely on
the idea that he's doing something that nobody else has
done for a very long time. Singularly, he's not the

(03:38):
best at pitching or hitting.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Look at his stats. Look where he is this year?

Speaker 1 (03:44):
He not even bad. Three hundred Otani has twenty four
or five home runs?

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Now where are we? Twenty five? Right?

Speaker 1 (03:53):
And forty two? RBIs like unbelievable five runs? You bet listen,
you and his rbiyes. You better relax or RBI, I'm
not playing with you. You better relax calling on him?
That's all you bring up about him? Last year?

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Can he help? Who was back in eight and nine?

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Last year he had one hundred and thirty How do
you go from one hundred and thirty two? We're at
the halfway point. He's on pasty bringing forty five, I
mean eighty five runs. How do you lose that? Okay,
did the Dodgers change completely different team? No, you can't
tell me. He gets a lot of hits when nobody's
on base.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
You done with their OI slander with with trying to
You're like giving me the whole spoonful of sugar to
make the medicine go down.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Trying to be and still this ain't it ain't o
Townish slander. It is Otani fact. And all I'm saying
is he needs both. He needs both to be the
old world superstar that everybody's can't get enough of. When
he's doing just one, of course, it's a star, but

(04:56):
he ain't on that plateau. Not as a picture he
hadn't want to sign young and not as a hitter.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
He's not there.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
He wouldn't be the best hitter in the league.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
He's not.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
That doesn't mean he's not dynamic, doesn't mean he couldn't
win m VP. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm
not saying he would go to nothing. But what makes
him that extra special and why people go God go
over him is just the idea that he has to
do both.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
That's all I'm saying. Because he played for the Angels,
go look at his numbers.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
When he played for the Angels, ain't nobody was talking
about old Tony like that. They weren't.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
But we were not like that, not like this. We
were talking about the Tony. All right, let me get let me,
let me get in here with you.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Qui he knows, I'm right. Let me tell you something.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
The room is going crazy, is going crazy, you know,
it's crazy when I have to go to the definition
of the dictionary, the Oxford Dictionary for you special, better, greater,
or otherwise different from what is usual. He is by
far better than the usual hit. He's greater than the
usual hitter. Okay, he's otherwise different from the usual hitter.

(06:06):
You were acting, I would give it to you if
not even pitching. The man has three MVPs rob he
has the Rookie of the Year. He is a four
time All Star, three times Silver Slugger, and again a
World Series champ. Now, so on this trajectory, with another
seven years or so of could be good to great

(06:26):
things will be in him. That would be an amazing career.
Now you add in the pitching, but so much of
what he's done over the last couple of seasons of
what made people awe at him, and I do agree.
More eyeballs now that he's become a Dodger, more people
watching because he finally got to see him the postseason,
More people watching because he got to see him in
the World Series against the Yankees, which was incredible. More

(06:47):
people are seeing him and seeing his uniqueness and watching
him fifty stolen bases last year as well, don't forget that.
And if you bring up pizza box, I'm gonna ump
on you.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
You know those pizza Babs' that second base. I'm just saying, well,
all of a sudden quick, So that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
This guy is just it's just a marvel guys, that
big six four and you've been around him, he's legit
six four six four and a half, like a legit
big guy. Are still in bases like that, aren't hitting
fifty plus home runs?

Speaker 3 (07:14):
Aren't doing it when it matters.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
It's meaning you go from a team he didn't do
it on Soto, You go to the Padres, disappear and
you know he's good, but not great for you. He
goes straight to the Dodgers and balls out. They go
to the World Series. He had the greatest postseason. But
my point is he shows up big moments. Who is
he strike out at the World Baseball Classic Mike Trout?

Speaker 3 (07:36):
I get this strikes out of Mike Trout, But you.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Gotta admit and your I'm not I don't want you
to say I think I'm not saying he's not a
sugar mean.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
No, I'm giving you that medicine. Give me right that
if you.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Separate the player, separate him and he's doing only one job.
He's not the best picture in baseball, and he's not
the best hitter. He's not okay if you're he's just
saying just and you talked about it in the MVPs. Yes,
because he was pitching during that time with the Angels.
Last year, obviously he didn't pitch and he won the MVP.

(08:10):
He had a great year, fifty solar bases, fifty on runs,
one hundred and thirty RBI, all that other stuff. Last
year he balled out just as a hitter. But I'll
sit here today and say, if I had to pick,
I'm that serious. The best hitter in baseball is not
Sho Hail Tani. It's clearly Aaron Judge. It's clearly. And

(08:31):
the reason that he gets Otani gets on the nod
all the time and everybody like, oh, you should win
the MVP every year, and I get it is because
he can't get on the maund like he's gonna do tonight.
If he doesn't have that. If he was just the hitter,
he wouldn't even be like, I know, he's a top
vote getter. Just came out today Judge in the American

(08:52):
League Otani in the National League.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
I get it, But.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
If you really would have removed the pitching aspect from him, just.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Let him you have. He has a pitcher two you no.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
No, no, But but people still look at him as
that dual threat because they know he can.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Pick more than Every time you keep talking, you just
all I you know how, I'm back in the old
Loony Tunes commercial, which I know you cartoons. You love
how they're so hungry they like the person they're looking
at turns into like a big drumstick. Yes, you're just
turning into MLB bro right now. The more Aaron Judge
and Aaron Judge and MLB bro, And I mean, oops,
did I say it? Every time you keep talking about this,

(09:29):
because your only thing you're saying is Aaron Judge is
the greater hitter. I will concede, he's more. You look
at what he's that doesn't make showy as if he's not.
It's it's that Aaron Judge is so crazy that show
hey might be a lesser version of that, but that
is still crazy. The reason that's might be being Kobe

(09:51):
Bryant wouldn't be special because he's Okay, he's not.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
He's still but but he's doing something nobody has done
since the twenty So I get it. He's the unicorn
and they call him that, and I understand that. What
I'm saying to you is if you were to pull
out both of his the things that he does, which.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Was only hit, what we're ranking with like best would
be in.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
The top he being the top five, but he wouldn't
be hands down like number one where people put him
because they put he's hitting like a like an m VP,
and he's pitching as well. Oh my god, he's two
players in one which you can't rate. And Aaron Judge
is just a hitter and an outfielder. Do you know
what I mean?

Speaker 4 (10:32):
I hear, but I just think I think he does
so much rob at an at in at bat when
he's up there at the plate.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
I think I'm a stolen base out this year.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
He ain't got ain't no fifty times this year, he said,
And once he pitches, you gonna have even less.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
A good question. Let me see how I bet you
he has five stolen.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
I bet you it was five.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
I'm gonna go a little bit more. I'm gonna go
like ten I'm gonna w up.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
I'm gonna go ten while we're looking that up, all right,
But I just think he does that Batman. I mean
the way he's scared eleven is a pretty good guy. Yeah,
it's a good guess, Yeah, because I've seen him. I've
seen him a couple of times get picked off with
the hold up. He's like, oh, he's still trying out here.
But what he does and how he scares pitchers, how
he helps out Mookie and then obviously Freddy. I mean,

(11:17):
what he does is still monumental even without the RBI numbers,
and even without pitching, and again I think you're underestimating
two years without pitching, and still people are.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Like, man, that guy is the guy.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
His peers are saying, is you read We talked about
it with me, you and Rob G the other day.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
They're like, man, he's the one. He is just different.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Because of the two things.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
I'm just saying, just pull off one picked one years one.

Speaker 6 (11:42):
I think I see what you're saying, Rob, Just in
that there there's usually a lot more pushback with players
like this. It takes a lot longer for them to
play and be in the MLB at a super high
level for him to start having the talks of like, Okay,
this might be the goat.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Might be the greatest player we've ever seen. And that's
the only reason it ain't just him at the.

Speaker 6 (11:58):
Play and the reason people were willing to have that
conversation with show Hay is because he was doing both.
And what Rob's saying, at least what I'm getting from it,
is that now he's not doing both.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
But then he's not like this year, you just go
this year.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
But he hadn't pitched yet.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
He's having a good year, and I know he's gonna
get all the votes with All Star and I'm not
saying any of that, and I don't even know is
he really At one point ten days ago, I would
have voted for Freddie Freeman as the MVP in the
National League, not show Hey. Even crazy. That's a conversation
Freddy was. Freddy was bawling out. I think he had

(12:35):
four hundred in a month of May. I'm just saying,
shoe Hey had a stretch. What did he go twenty
how many games? Ten or fifteen games without a home run?
He just had a drought before this weekend. Judge droughts,
am I right?

Speaker 4 (12:46):
Yeah, by the way, I called it a judge drought,
but dude, the judge that won last year, and I
think it was April. No, But I'll say this, in
said you want to jump in, you can get someone
to smoke too.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
He into baseball. He knows what he gets someone to
smoke too.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
I will that I don't think has to ever pitch
again for people to still have that conversation because he
was so good at pitching for the time that he
did it. He's so prolific a hitting and then you're
stolen bases. Then he could play outfield. Obviously he won't anymore,
but he could have played outfield. I he could have played.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
You know now that we've seen it and it's tough you.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Now go oh, I've seen enough to say he may
be the best baseball player.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
But I don't think he has to ever do anything.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
The only problem is if he plays and say does
kind of like what he's been doing this year. He's
got to eighty eight, you know what I mean. It
has his home runs or whatever. People aren't gonna look
at him the same way as the greatest player of
all time.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
But why But what I'm saying enough people said that
about Mike Trout for years because it's something he wants.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
People don't talk about that now, but you were still
had that conversation. Mike Trout could something, but he.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
But because he doesn't do what he did before. And
that's what I'm saying. If O'twani was to stop pitching
and then he was really a great player, I don't
know if he would be in that comedy.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
I think he did enough pitching when you pitch for
what was like four years here something like that.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Yeah, but he never want to Cy Young.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
He was Nolan Ryan, Yes he does, all right, Well
he was Nolan Ryan because Nolan Clemens. No, Nolan Ryan
never won a cy Young. My goodness, all right, Roger
Clemens won seven.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
He had to be sho hey Clemens out there in
the fact that he was that good as a pitcher
and that prolific is it?

Speaker 3 (14:24):
He don't have to do anything else. Still in basis outfield,
What Marty do you want.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
From the Man eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
eight seven seven nine nine, six sixty three sixty nine.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Am I crazy? Yes?

Speaker 5 (14:34):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (14:35):
The show Hay have to do both to be considered
like an all time grade or the goat or the
greatest baseball player ever. Or if you separate him and
make him just a hit or a pitcher, doesn't he
fall back? He in my eyes, he would fall back
and pitching, and he would fall back as not being
the best hitter in the game. I would say it

(14:57):
was Aaron Judge easily if we were to do that.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
My eyes, he's done enough to be considered as one
of the best ever.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
All right, we want to hear from you. Eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Will take as many of your calls here on the
shohy Otani debate. It is The Odd Couple on a

in the US of A.

Speaker 2 (15:28):

City Monday.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
Thanks for rocking with us.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
By the way, Rob Parker MLB bro our couple FSR

(16:09):
while you're at it. Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox,
we talked about the crews I was on. They had
some really good food. The short rib was cooked right,
and I think the pacers are cooked. Rob says, shut up, Kevin,
that ain't the case. Eight seven seven ninety out on Fox,
We'll say you.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
All right, Marty in Kentucky, you're on the couple of
Fox Sports Radio. I hope you had a great Father's Day, Marty.

Speaker 7 (16:32):
Yes, pretty good. We played in pulled a lot and
shot some hoops in the pool and out of the pool.
Just if I had my way, I just spend all
Father's Day in the gym with my dad, all my
kids shooting hoop.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
That's awesome, man.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
So man, that's all you need. You don't need any big,
big deal. Life is about people, anyway, I tell people
a thousand times.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Stop with all the other stuff.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Now, only thing that matters in life is spending time
with people that you love and care about.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
That's all that matters.

Speaker 7 (17:02):
Completely agree, That's right, guys. I didn't feel that the
Phasers blew it. I really think and I and I
had bragged on Carlisle this entire series, and he really
impressed me.

Speaker 8 (17:16):
I think he's fantastic.

Speaker 7 (17:17):
But I will admit dag Goat. I think that they
pronounced the name, made a great made a great switch
up at the end of that game that I really
think want him the game because Hallie was cooking. He's
a piece of point guard six five with a good
wings fan and he was driving the hole and all
that nasty English.

Speaker 9 (17:37):
All those shots were just dropping for him.

Speaker 7 (17:39):
He was cooking, he was carrying the offense, and they
switched over homeward on him, and he had enough links
to keep him from pulling.

Speaker 5 (17:49):
Up on the jumper.

Speaker 7 (17:50):
And Calout will have an adjustment for that tonight, and
that would be the interesting thing to see if there's
things tight down the stretch and they do that again.
But I'm really enjoying the coach decisions. I agree with
that all the XS and those of this series. It's
I that the ratings are good because if you love
basketball and you see these two minds going in battle

(18:12):
with these squads, you would love you should love this series.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
Right.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
But but you noticed Marty's the casuals just they're not interesting,
you know that.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
It's it's not the diehards ever, the casuals.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
Yeah, and people, And this has been some good basketball, man,
it's been Chelton Marty. I think it's been a lot
of team basketball. So you're not having those individuals starting like,
nobody's dropping forty ten threes in the game, and so
the casuals and then me don't are interested in that.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
Something you might see with.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
Studs after that, and even after Game one, which was
ultra exciting at the end in the three seconds, right,
and then nobody and then they have a less less
people watching the next game, which was very telling, very telling.
Jack in South Carolina, you're on the couple of Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
What's up, Jack?

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Hey, what's going on wrong? What's up? Kill man?

Speaker 3 (18:56):
What's up man? Hey?

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Hey?

Speaker 8 (18:59):
Happy to believe it? Uh fad you too later anyway,
you know, they called me daddy.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
They called me daddy once they get the approval on
my master car.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
I don't know when I was at the port, Jack,
When I was at the port, they were like, oh,
you do the show, Rob.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
They said you might ask some kids in these ports
around here.

Speaker 8 (19:16):
Oh god, yeah, yeah, yeah, I gotta saying Rob to
give out those scratch offs and gift cars.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
He's got a little Jeter bag at the little basket
on the walkout.

Speaker 8 (19:29):
But yeah, man, but Rob owners from man, I really
want the Paces to win it, even though o case,
he got two of my boys, because I'm a Calim
Parry fan, says you man, wherever I go, and he
got two of my boys. But I get deep down,
I really want the.

Speaker 5 (19:44):
Paces to win.

Speaker 8 (19:45):
You know, even though they didn't get away us tonight
would have been three right.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
But you call.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Right, it would have been It would have been unbelievable.
They would have been up three of them, all.

Speaker 5 (19:56):
Right, Yes, yeah, we want.

Speaker 8 (20:00):
Let it get away from me?

Speaker 5 (20:01):
Shows you what.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
Yeah he closed that thing out, making big shots, knocking
down free throws.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Thank you Jack.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
Yeah yeah, but I know I'm agreeing with I like
what you're saying Rob about had we seen them up
three one, you'd be like, wait, whoa.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
That would that would have been shocking, But that would
have been go into the fourth up ten or you know,
it was right around the fourth with up ten at
one point.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
I get that, got it. I feel like that's when
you because you don't want.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
This to happen, but that's not But they're an underdog
and that and I'm just saying like like, like it
would be against everything you talked about, the numbers and
the thunder and what they've done all year, and the
defense and the right like that would have all been
out the window, Like what, how in the world did
this happen? You're gonna remember if they win, a lot
of people consider it one of the biggest upsets ever.

(20:45):
What it will be like that, like, that's how big
it is. So for them to be up three to
one wouldn't make sense. If they battle back wing tonight
and then close them out, I think.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
People will be like, Wow, the Pacers were pretty amazing,
and that's why I don't have them winning now.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
I just feel like that was and however it would
have happened, but they had a shot right then and
there to do that to go up three to one,
but they still they listen.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
It's been a great series too, too. Is all you
can ask for.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
If you're the NBA, maybe you figure if we gets
closer and closer to the game five, six seven, maybe
more people will tune in.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
Wop's coming up to bat for the Yanks. I look
at that gen carlos Colo hasn't played all year at
elbow isshoes. He's up in both arms too.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
Yeah, he gets the second and third and I know
that would be crazy.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Listen it happens.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
And also, Showy's going to pitch tonight. He's the uh
uh opening front you'll get at innings coming up. Yeah,
we'll have some fun with that in just a little bit.
Speaking of I'm sure Steve will have that for us
as well. Old polonies on the other side of Steve,
so we can talk some more hoops. Steve saga, what's
trend it?

Speaker 3 (21:41):
Hasty? Hello?

Speaker 10 (21:42):
And Stanton just grounded out to end the innings. So
the Yankees and the Angels are scoreless after one. Washington
has lost eight in a row. They're down two nothing
to Colorado in the top of the fourth Rockies with
a record of fourteen and fifty seven. Phillies are tied
one one at Miami. Top of the third Trey Turner
leadoff homer for the Phills, who've won four in a row.

(22:02):
The idle Mets have lost three straight. They are first
in the NLAs two and a half games over the Phillies.
Baltimore at Tampa Bay about to start. Then there are
three late games, including the Dodgers in sho Heyotani opening
a four game series in LA against San Diego. Dylan
Cease will start for the Padres. Otani, the opener may
only pitch an inning or so, but he hasn't pitched

(22:22):
in a game in nearly two years. Otani had a
second Tommy John surgery in twenty twenty three. He is
the Dodger DH He is leading off, by the way,
Otani's former interpreter reported to prison, Ibe Muzuhara, was sentenced
to fifty seven months for stealing nearly seventeen million dollars
from Otani. The Giants will activate pitcher Justin Verlander to
start on Wednesday. The leading vote getters for the All

(22:44):
Star Game are show Heyotani in the NLA, are In
Judge in the AL at College Baseball's World Series. Arkansas
pitched a no hitter today to eliminate Murray State three nothing.
Gage Wood struck out nineteen. The only other no hitters
at the College World Series occurred in nineteen fifty In
nineteen sixty, would had a perfect game today until it
hit batter in the eighth. LSU against UCLA tonight, and

(23:07):
the Bruins are ahead of LSU already three nothing in
the first inning. The winner faces Arkansas on Tuesday. And
by the way, we've got NBA Finals Game five coming
up in an hour with Oklahoma City hosting Indiana. Series
tied at two. The WNBA is off Stanley Cup Game
six is Tuesday. US men's soccer plays again on Thursday

(23:27):
at the FIFA Club World Cup. Today Chelsea beat LAFC
two nothing in Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve, appreciate you.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
It's the ocup of Rock Parker kelvin Washington on a
Magic City Monday. And as always, we got our guy
right now, Olden polones former NBA vet Fox Sports Radio
bi analysts. You give him a follow on X Olden
Polonese one big.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Oh what's up?

Speaker 1 (23:48):
Man?

Speaker 3 (23:48):
What what's happening? Doing great?

Speaker 5 (23:51):
How are you I'm good. I'm good, no complaint.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
How was your father's day?

Speaker 5 (23:56):
Fursday was a wonderful choiet. Kids took me out to e.
I there you go.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
Ain't nothing wrong with.

Speaker 5 (24:05):
You?

Speaker 3 (24:06):
Paid to it? Did they pay?

Speaker 5 (24:08):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Of course you paid? Of course right? Yes paid? Okay,
all right, that's awesome, he said. I trained them up well, Rob.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
And I'm gonna say this, it doesn't matter how much
money you make, suiously old and you you that and
whatever situation you're in to be treated once in a while,
there's nothing wrong with that, am I right?

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Olden like super I'm saying, even if it's a Hamburger
or a launch or whatever it is, like do I do? Yeah,
that's all it.

Speaker 4 (24:38):
I will add to that, even if you bought it
every now and again, just to now like hey guys,
they can say hey, thank you, thank you, boy.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
I tell you.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
I'll tell you this real quick. I took out Glenn
Braggs to go eat in Saint Louis. He's playing, he's
a left fielder for the Cincinnati Reds and the newspaper
is going to pay the bill, you know what I
mean or whatever.

Speaker 3 (24:59):
So I'm like, let's go out.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
We'll go have lunch before the game and say louis
all this, and he was like expecting to pay the
check and I'm like, no, no, no, I got it.
He was just so taken aback because he hadn't been
out with anybody, do you know what I mean? Old,
and who had paid the bill. He was really like,
what really are you paying it? I said, dude, I
got it.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
The newspaper will pay it. Man, it goes along. I'll
give us a cup of coffee.

Speaker 4 (25:23):
Oh then, man, we were just talking about Game four
NBA Finals, which has been a good good finals, good series.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
Here we are too too. I feel like the pase too.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
When everybody had the thunder and five most.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
People, a lot of people did.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
I thought it was a great opportunity for the Pacers
to try to go ahead and put their foot on
their neck, got up ten. You know, everybody's feeling good
in the building. Halliburton was starting to cook, and then
the thunder came back and showed you why they were
the best team in the NBA. And I feel like
that was a chance let slip out of the Pacers hands.
Could be over for them. Now Rob doesn't think.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
So, and Old and I'm just saying they weren't supposed
to be up three one they're under That would have
been incredible. Well, had they won that game and been
up three to one on the thunder, but where are
you going into game five?

Speaker 3 (26:05):
Who was the advantage?

Speaker 5 (26:07):
Well, my running narrative has been this, it's all about
the whistles, and it has been. I mean, when they
were up eight and there was a stretch there where things,
i mean, those whistles were really interesting and it's a shame.

Speaker 9 (26:25):
Now two guys are playing really good basketball. I mean,
I've enjoyed this finals more than any finals I think
in a long time, just because the two teams came
really hard, playing really smart, playing really well. But at
the same time, some of these whistles, man, they just
don't make sense to me. And it changes the flow

(26:46):
of the game, everything about the game. And again I'm
not going to say that's all it is, but it's
just the timing of it all. It's one thing to
blow the whistle in the first quarter. It's another to
blow it in the fourth quarter, you know, And.

Speaker 5 (26:59):
There's nothing there. You know, I'm watching guys get hit.
I'm not trying to take anything from Shay Gills Alexander
great player, but that for himself he does every time
he got it up, it's gotta be something. It cannot
be a nothing call because that's an advantage for him.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
I'll tell you this next year and this is what
I'll tell you.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Watch and see and that will be interesting if he
gets that again after watching him throughout it, if he
wins the championship, you know, teams are going to be
older and like politic and saying, look at this, this
cannot be.

Speaker 5 (27:35):
A no call exactly. And it's a same because it
changes the dynamics of the game, I honestly believe, and
I thought it was going to happen. I thought Indiana
was going to go up three one and then I
was like, okay, you know, then they'll probably lose two
games and then we go to seven. But it's like

(27:56):
love to be too too right now. Again, it's it's
all on the flow. You cannot stop a team you
know that's rolling really nicely, and then all of a
sudden you started blowing for these crazy calls. That's what's
that's what's bothering me right now about this series.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Yeah, I was going to ask you this. It's funny.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
I was.

Speaker 4 (28:14):
I was listening to some talks over the last couple
of days talk about it and bringing up the name
of Scott Foster and it doesn't happen.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
Yeah, a lot of.

Speaker 4 (28:21):
People were Foster's there, the extender was in this game,
and he you know, they call him Extender.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
He's known for you know series, what was that guy
for Brady? What was his name, the guy who used
to blow up the balls? What was his nickname?

Speaker 5 (28:38):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (28:39):
Shoot, the Yeah, the flat inflator was then the inflator,
the inflator, you know, that was his nickname. Later he's
the Extender, so too. Two parter one? Do you buy
this narrative that you know, Oh, man, there's certain refs
coming in. He's going to do it differently. And man,
when you were playing, was there a certain ref or
crew that you went, we're gonna be in for longness?

Speaker 5 (29:04):
No, I mean, we all knew who guys were.

Speaker 9 (29:06):
And again, and I don't want people to think that,
you know, stuff like.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
This doesn't happen. Just like anything else anywhere in the world,
there's gonna be you know, certain individuals that you know
they pushed the envelope on things. You know, we've already
seen tim down to here. Okay, So I'm like you
guys are surprised. The surprise for me was that he
was the only one named. To be very honest with you.

(29:32):
And again, I'm not trying to do on the NBA
because I don't play anymore. No, that's not my intent.
My intent is the truth. The truth is what it is.
You know, I'm not gonna sit here and act like, oh,
he was the only one, because you can't get away
with it by yourself. It's almost impossible, especially when there's
two other guys that you have to you know, that

(29:53):
hold you accountable. So no, I don't believe it.

Speaker 9 (29:56):
But at the same time, we had certain referees, you know.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
One Homer Hughes. We knew when he refereed. The home
team's getting all questionable calls. That's why they call him
home or you because the home team will get the calls,
they'll get the benefit of the doubt. And so to me,
stuff like that that's been going on. So Scott Foster
is no different. He's one of them. I mean, it's
just that he's out there doing stuff. Some of the

(30:19):
calls are just you know, it's funny. I think I
kind of mentioned earlier or alluded to it earlier. He'll
make some calls right for you to be like, oh man,
all right, he's calling a good game until the right
call needs to be made.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
Right right. I'll tell you this in two thousand and four.
I'll never forget it.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
The writers were in Larry Brown's office before the game
and He's like, who are the referees tonight?

Speaker 3 (30:47):
You know people shit, And I can't remember the referee
who he looked at.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
He goes, we got no shot tonight, and everybody's like, Larry,
what are you talking about? We will not be winning tonight,
he says. In the postseason, I think I've won one
game in ten in the postseason with this guy referd
like he knew what exactly When we did the research
to find out he was right on it.

Speaker 4 (31:08):
He was like one to nine in postseason games that
I mean, you heard what Chris Paul said against his foster.
He was like one in thirty or whatever. There's some
crazy record. Crazy, Yeah, it happens. Olden Polonies are guests
in the couple Rod Parker Kelvin Washington on a Magic
City Monday.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
Olden Rick Carlisle and the Job that he's done incredible.
We know he's a good coach, but I think, oh yeah,
this series, in this postseason has really put a spotlight.
Remember he was in Dallas with Luca that didn't work out.
He got out of Dodge literally and he's done a
great job. Last year the Pacers were in the Eastern

(31:45):
Conference Finals. The next year not are in the championship.
Talk about Rick Carlile.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
And what he does.

Speaker 5 (31:52):
I mean, of course, you know the University of Virginia. No,
he's done an amazing job.

Speaker 9 (32:00):
You know, I've never got to take that away from rig.

Speaker 5 (32:04):
And very sad. I'm so proud of him because he's
he knows the game.

Speaker 9 (32:08):
I mean, he's a championship coach.

Speaker 5 (32:10):
He's put me he's he's pushed all the right buttons,
I think except for one, and that was Game four,
even with everything that was happening with the Wishers and
everything else, I just thought there was a stretch in
the game where he maybe he got a little bit
over confident with his decisions, but I thought Myles Turner
should not have been in the game. There was a

(32:31):
sretch in the fourth quarter Myles Turner was in there,
and he's given him some good minutes, but the floor
of that game needed a smaller lineup, and I just
thought that he and then he finally did take him out,
but O from the City had already like got none
their momentum run and so it was a little bit

(32:51):
too late. But that's probably the only thing he's done wrong.
And but again, he can't control the players. You know,
he played man when game four he didn't have the
same game as he had in game three, So that's
you know, that's neither him nor there. But I think
overall he's done an incredible job just managing minutes and

(33:13):
seeing how the floor the game is and taking advantage.
You know, But I gotta give credit to my man dad. No. Also, yeah,
he's done a nice job too, you know, to get
it too too too.

Speaker 4 (33:23):
I tell you what, man, it's gonna be a fun series.
Like you mentioned, we were saying all the real Hooper's
been enjoying it. Last quick take ten seconds. Who you
got winning tonight?

Speaker 5 (33:32):
I got Indiana coming back. I mean it's been alternating anyway,
So I'm just gonna go with that alternating factor.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
There you have it. That's a good point. They both
keep coming back all postseason long. After loss one teams
five and oh one team now six and oh after
a loss. Appreciate it man, all that will do it again?

Speaker 5 (33:47):
All right, take it. Thank you.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
We got Shekel City on the way. See how Rob did.
And we've also got to dive a little deeper into

Speaker 4 (34:26):
I'm covin on a Magic City Monday. This is probably
when it goes up in Magic City. And right now
the side for Shecho City. Welcome to Shekel City. The
whole base for Rob Parker's Dally Dix against the spread.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Ali on Friday one and two. Okay, but I'm still
over five hundred and one sixty two and one fifty seven,
A nice little cushion up tonight. Now, the Yankees got
swept in Boston.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
They did, so I got the.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
Yankees minus one and a half. Bronze hosting the Angels
at Yankee Stadium tonight in New York. So I got
the Yankees minus one and a half.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
I got the Pacers plus nine and a half.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
I expect them to win.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
Boy the ball game, Okay, I'll take the nine and
a half.

Speaker 5 (35:13):
Two.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
I was gonna say the nine and a half. I
can understand that.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
And uh, show a starting the opener might pitch one
or two winnings tonight. Yeah, hasn't pitched his twenty twenty three.
I got the Padres plus one and a half runs.

Speaker 4 (35:27):
She said about it, get it early. Well, he han't
pitched his twenty twenty three. But he's also superhuman.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
Okay. Last time I remember pitching, he was striking out
Mike Trouts. Last thing I.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
Remember Padres plus one and a half, Pacers plus nine
and a half, and the Yankees plus one and a half.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
And remember Kelvin, what's that. I'm not telling you who
to bet on. I'm telling you who I bet on.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
All right, now you have a Shekel City's time now
for your tirerect Player of the Day.

Speaker 7 (35:57):
Here's one.

Speaker 11 (35:58):
Had a swing and a fly ball left field, rode
in back into his lap deck son. Oh, it's cleared.
It cleared for Castianos. It had just enough legs and
it's a grand slam for Nick Castianos has the Phillies
breaking wide open here in the bottom of the sixth.

Speaker 3 (36:16):
It's ten to two Phillies. Radio there Nick Casianos with
the grand slam.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
That is what tiger.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
He's really had a good career. Yep.

Speaker 4 (36:24):

Speaker 1 (36:43):
Too big, break it away, no doubt.

Speaker 6 (36:47):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
The San Francisco Giants and I'm gonna give bus to Polsy.
You know this is his first year running the team.
And hey, there's surprising on Friday when they beat the Dodgers.
They actually moved into first place NL West, which tells
you how to well to John shoun playing. Sorry about that,
but they also, let's be honest, they've been having trouble

(37:07):
getting a big time playing. The offered judge a ton
of money who's from that area, the Bay area in
northern California, and he turned them down to stay with
the Yankees. And they offered somebody else a lot of
money lest I can't remember who it was, but they
got turned down in that situation. Rodfield Devers is a

(37:27):
really good All Star. Didn't they make a big they
made They made a big offer for him. So they've
tried to get Roefield Devers and they get him in
the train and they gave up like four players and
all that stuff, which is fine. Here, here's the one
thing I know that's going out there. Who's to blame

(37:48):
on why Rockfield Devers, who's going to be an All
Stars had a great head, slow start but had a
great year. The Red Sox are the blaming this whole thing.
And Kelvin I'm gonna say this, I know a lot
of people like well, when they tell you move from
third base to first base, you're supposed to just get
your glove and go run over there and do it
and be a team player. But the Red Sox, you

(38:08):
gotta be honest and talk to somebody first. Give him respect.
He's an all start playing for this franchise. He was,
and they didn't do that. You know, they knew they
wanted to move him before they got the spring training,
and they acted like they didn't know. Then they were like, well,
take what ground balls? At first, He's like what, Like

(38:31):
he's been playing third base for them. He not the
greatest third baseman, but there's a way of dealing with
people and talking with them, and I don't think they
gave him that kind of respect, And so there was
a big issue. And I guess he had eventually at
some point asked to be traded, and so they made
the trade. But the Red Sox too, they've done a
couple of things. There's the team that traded Mookie Betts,

(38:54):
rod Field Devers, Like they've gotten rid of some big
time players.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
How do you trade Mookie Bets? When they traded him,
I was.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
They they've been making They've been making some moves that
you know, you either view it as this is just
how good teams operate, anybody can go. You know, we
have a plan. We have a game plan, and this
is how we're going to execute it. Uh and and
that's how we're going to continue to move and you
can be with us for a few years. And that's
just almost like they're cross town the Patriots, where you know, hey,
it's the Patriots way, and we rather get rid of

(39:22):
you earlier than later. That could be that. But Devers
too good. You mentioned how good he is all Star.
I think he's led them in RBI's the last five
seasons and he's only twenty seven players.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
Don't forget Xander Brogos that let go to to San Diego,
so that those are like their last three stars.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
They've let all of them go.

Speaker 4 (39:43):
So that's what it becomes a conversation of what exactly
again are they the president? They're just saying we it's
the numbers thing for us, both numbers money and both
numbers and little because.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
People are looking at the numb money.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
They just freed up two hundred and fifty two hundred
and fifty million dollars whatever it was thirty seven, yeah,
but you know what I mean fifty yeah, yep, And
they just freed up that bunch of money, So what
are they preparing for as well?

Speaker 4 (40:05):
So yeah, two fifty you're right, two hundred and fifty
million dollars for them. So that's a great move. Going
back to the Giants into this, Oh yeah, you're getting
the back to continue to try it in their minds,
hopefully keep a lead. You're bringing a guy and that
can lead your team now for years. He's only twenty
seven years old, young guy. Yeah, you got him fight
in his prime.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
You got him at a fair deal considering the town
where and what people are getting paid now, Like that
contract was big.

Speaker 4 (40:30):
It ain't big now, you know what I mean. And
so yeah, yeah they had to give up a little bit,
but that anyway, got to give the get. You got
to give the get when you're getting somebody that talented,
that young, and you'll be having them for some time
in a division where you're sick of the Dodgers winning it,
you know, or the Padres nipping at their heels as.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
One of the right.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
The Giants are like, we're a big, big time.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
City and buster posey golden years, you know, and they
look like we want to get back to that and
bust a Posy.

Speaker 3 (40:54):
I mean, they got to be loving him in San Francisco.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
That's always cool when the guy who kind of walks
right into the front office after being a player and
making moves, making moves and just you know, just the
hometown hero and continues to do his thing.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
So that's cool. We'll see how that trade works out.

Speaker 4 (41:10):
If you're the Dodgers, you're liking and speaking of the Dodgers,
could be special for them tonight, right, we'll tell you why.
