You're listening to the Best of the Odd Couple.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Rob G.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
We're gonna start with the Lakers, and there are some
reporting about Lebron not happy panties in a bunch, you know,
with the way things are going on down at Crypto
dot com arena, ROBG, can you for listen?
Speaker 5 (00:41):
Yeah, this seems to be boiling over in a big
way here in Lila Land. We remember about a week
ago we had Brian Windhorse say on ESPN Radio that,
you know, the idea of Lebron not retiring with the
Lakers is now more on the table than ever. He
didn't say out right it was gonna happen, but he said,
you know, just don't slam.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
The door on anymore.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
A couple of days ago, Yo Van Buha, friend of
the show Lake, longtime Lakers insider, said that the relationship
between the two sides is kind of salty at the moment,
a little frosty. Two sides have not exactly seemed batiko
at the moment.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Well.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Today ESPN dot Com, Ramona Shelburn and Brian Winhurst again
put out a lengthy piece discussing what's going on with Lebron,
James and the Lakers brass and in summary, what they
have determined is that Lebron is not happy that the
team has really pivoted in a strong way towards Luka
(01:31):
Doncic and his timeline and put Lebron's timeline on the
back burner. In fact, according to Shelburn and Windhorst, one
of the things that Lebron is really upset about is
that the Lakers did not offer him a contract extension
prior to him opting into that fifty two million dollars
for next season.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
So it wasn't right. He didn't have a choice to say,
now I'm not gonna do that. Let me decide what
I'm gonna do. No, they said no, no, No, you're good.
You gotta think are you coming in okay?
Speaker 5 (02:00):
In fact, according to Shauburn and Winhorse, here's how they
frame it in the story. If Lebron wanted the kind
of Hollywood ending that only the Lakers can give legends
of the game. The release date has been set Spring
twenty twenty six.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
And Kelvin, I'm just gonna say this, the Lakers are
spot on.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
They are spot on. This is not.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
You can't live in the past when it comes to sports.
You know, you fall in love with people. Or the
Lakers did it with Kobe mistake, you could say whatever
you the last six five six years with a mistake,
too much money, nobody wanted to play with you remember
what it was. They couldn't make the playoff. It was
not good because they wanted to take care of Kobe
(02:51):
and be loyal and all that kind of stuff, and
you gotta be careful with that. In this case, the
Lakers have done everything. Lebron's going to be forty one. Like, seriously,
you got a twenty five year old star that you
traded for, right, and that's who you have to center
around the team.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
The team was just sold. If you're the Dodgers, you're
living in the past.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
I mean the Lakers, you're half right, right, half right,
because the Dodgers are moved across the street. You know what,
I'm saying, so, I don't see this as being disrespectful
or not. You know, when he was there, they paid him,
they gave him the extension before you know, they've done
everything he wanted, more plays, and when they got him
a D, traded all the young players right to go
(03:35):
get a D for him. That worked out. They want
a championship, they get Luca for him. Okay, wow, you
know what I mean. But you can't string this along
an extension. No, it could be forty one. This is
the right move by the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
This is gonna be the first time Lebron is gonna
have to deal with something different. And that is the
first time not being courted, the forced time I'm not
being wanted, the first time that he is in a
position where he's second fiddle. And since he's probably what
thirteen years old, he's probably been that guy.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Now.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
His disposition, especially early on, was to be more of
a collaborative guy, bring the team on high fives with everybody.
So but he always knew subconsciously it all revolved around him.
And this is the first time Robin happens. You know,
and people do that in life things when it ain't
all about you if you're if you're an only child
and all of a sudden you got a sibling. What
you mean, I don't get this? And what do you
(04:32):
mean they gotta share? I gotta do this, And I
think that's what he's going through. You mentioned a couple
of good things. New ownership. I'm gonna start there. New ownership,
mind you, Rob, Not a new ownership that's new to this.
New ownership that knows what they're doing. New ownership that
has continually had the Dodgers being successful, whether they're competing
for obviously winning their division and competing for World series,
(04:53):
winning World Series.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
So the ownership is a little bit different.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
This ain't just the bus family, who I've said a
million times who to fault has been overly loyal to
people who are in business with them back in the
early eighties.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
I'm because mom and pop shop. They have that thing.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
If you've been with us, you know you've been through
the ups and downs with us, We become loyalty.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
We ride with you.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
This ain't that this new ownership, while respecting Lebron, while
appreciating Lebron, are trying to also move forward. And the
day that the inc side dried up on that trade
for Luca Doncentz, the Lebron era was over. Now you
can be a part of the Luca era. You can
be participatory. We would love to have you on this ride.
(05:33):
But this is now the Luca Era without a doubt,
And I would challenge Lebron. That makes to see if
this cannot go out bad. You don't have to go
out bad because they didn't offew extension. You don't have
to go out bad because the team is now about Luca.
You don't have him not calling up and not texting
DeAndre aid dere eight.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
And I mean that is a I'm gonna say, you
got to throw him a party, y'all. Welcome to Wow,
Welcome to the team.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Bro.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
So this is gonna be something Lebron is gonna have
to deal with for the first time where yo, you
are not your second fiddle, and it's it's uncommon territory
for him. But again, when you look at the fact
that he's not a lifer, fairly or unfairly wrong or
right them giving Kobe that deal, we know what Kobe
meant to the city, We know what he meant to
this franchise. So right, I'm saying you shouldn't from a
(06:19):
practical business.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
Standpoint, I understand that, but if you look at the results,
they weren't good.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Right, And that's what I'm saying. From a practical business standpoint,
you would say it's trying to move on. But the
Lakers ownership said we're gonna do right by him. He'd
been here for us and that was their prerogative. This
isn't that where Lebron hasn't been a lifer. So you
mentioned with clutch sports. They brought in a gang of
clutch sports guys over the years, they brought in ad
they into his credit. Hey, he and a d brought
them a championship, So it's been a mutual thing. He
(06:46):
brought them some relevancy and some you know, they were
competitive making. They brought him everything he wanted, the guys
he wanted, the coaches he wanted, and they.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Even brought his son in.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
So at a certain point, you can add, the Lakers
can actually look at Lebron and ask, what more do
you want from me?
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Because they have given him every week, got your song?
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Square?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Do you want from me?
Speaker 3 (07:06):
That's what they can ask him.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
So to me, this is gonna be interesting when Lebron
handles for the first time not being the princess at
the ball and having to, you know, be second fiddle
and not being our first and top priority with every
single move or decision that we make. And it's going
to be interesting to see how he chooses to handle
this as he winds it down. Because you look what
you you said the same thing. Look I wrote it down.
(07:29):
He's about to be forty one, and if I extend
you another two year, what are you forty three?
Speaker 3 (07:34):
You know what I mean? Like, how when does it stop?
And Father Time is undefeated.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
You held him off the longest we've ever seen at
this level, and Tom Brady held him off or give
you guys credit for that, but he's still undefeated.
Speaker 2 (07:44):

get your podcast from.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
I'm waiving the white flag on Cooper Flag. After that
debacle last night, talk about the worst debut for this guy?
Was hyped up five for twenty one and you were
trying to bump the Bronni. Oh we wanted you were
Bronnie your second year one for six three He only
(09:00):
had eight points.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
You want to talk about a terrible debut?
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Am I saying he can't play and he's gonna be
a bus no. But you couldn't have a worst debut.
And he had that nice dunk early on in the game.
I watched the game this morning on NBA TV.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
It was awful. People paid top dollar to watch that.
Was he nervous? What with the and you know what.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
The worst part about it is Rob g Kelvin, he
ain't even playing against.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
God's gonna be in the league.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
These are guys who just got the jersey as a
silveneir and they got a large diar coca and a
hot dog for participating.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
They're not gonna be in the league.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Seventy five percent of those guys, eighty percent of those guys.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
And he couldn't get his shot off. He couldn't.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
They made him uncomfortable, and then they're gonna harp on
to play at the end of the game.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
That's what tells you about Cooper Flag.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
You know, the defensive play, and then he gave the
assist for the game winning basket, five for twenty one.
I needed something better than that. I didn't need forty points.
I needed a better debut than that from this guy
that they wanted to put in the same sentence as
(10:26):
Larry Bird. He wasn't even Christian Ladner last night. Let
Loane Larry Bird. I dare anybody who's an NBA fan
who calls up this radio show and tells me they
saw something.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Oh my god, Cooper Flag's gonna be something with the death.
You didn't see it last night.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
I know he's eighteen, he played major college basketball. Everybody's
been singing his praises oh five for twenty one. If
you take away to dunk, that means he made four baskets. Really,
it's never been easy to score in the NBA ever.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Calvin could score a couple of buckets. I can get
you six and three. You could do that six, You
could do what.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Lebron did one for six from the three point line
and he won.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Bah Balu, mom l you already know, Alex, I'm waving
a white flag on that debut.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
And all the bally who made about it, it was
as disappointing and milk toase and non dramatic as I've
seen anything it was.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
It just didn't move me.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Not being so dramatic, which is thought was gonna be
Game seven of the NBA Finals. Stop it an eighteen
year old going up against what's browny now nineteen and
a half. Both of them one never played any kind
of NBA game, the other one everybody ever said shouldn't
even be in the NBA. And you thought you were
looking at nineteen eighty six Celtics Lakers. Stop, I'm not
(11:57):
dealing with you right now.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Now. Let me tell you what it is.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
I put no stock if you'd had twenty two points
or two points in a especially your first Summer League game.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
You're full of it. You like the NBA. You know why,
because that he put up a forty piece. Don't tell me.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
People wouldn't have been random if.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
He had forty points last night? What would what would
have been? Sports Center?
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Oh my god, yes, right against bomb, right against what? Right? Right?
Guess what?
Speaker 1 (12:28):
This is called the od couple Rod Parker and Kevin Washington,
not ESPN. Now let me get back to what I
was saying. I put no stock.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
You know why.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Sometime I'm gonna go to somebody who's independent, who's not
on the payroll.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
I know you used to work there, but because.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
First of all, if I if I'm on the payroll, y'all,
I need some more checks because I got some bills
that needs to be paying. Now, no stock in this
because we've seen guys come out and tear it up.
Answer your point, Oh my gosh, this person is about
to be the best ever. And let me railed you
off a couple of things. You know who looked amazing.
Kalcubs looked like he was gonna be a perennial All
(13:01):
Star if he went off the Summer League his first
go round, Markel Foltz. That's why he's the number one pick.
He looked amazing. Ben Simmons who Cooper Flag looked like?
Speaker 3 (13:09):
To me, Ben.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Simmons is the new Lebron if you went off the
summer league, we ain't seen two or the three since
you know who looked horrible. Steph Curry looked lost out there. Well,
I think he did all right. Derek Rose looked lost
out there. I think he did all right. So don'd
put too much stock either way in this. So Cooper
Flagg was out there, he was five or twenty one
(13:31):
miss some shots. Now here's what I do give him
credit for. I give him an E for effort. And
that that's what I say. That is because the same
thing I said yesterday, the one thing I can can
I can say I know going into his NBA career,
I can count on he is athletic. You saw the
one Donkey got filed on the miss. I mean, my gosh,
he tried to jump for the free throw line on somebody.
So I knew the elite athleticism was there. And also
(13:54):
I know he cares. He's gonna play hard from zero
minutes to forty eight minutes. He's gonna give max effort
on both sides. So I love to see that from him,
but I don't put too much stock in it. Bronni
didn't look that great. Nobody really looked that great and
had the BRONI put up eighteen on all right, put
up eighteen against guys who aren't gonna be up there
in the league, So I don't put too much.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Now, there are some takeaways for Cooper. Flag number one.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Cooper, that handle ain't what you think that hand he
thought he had it bringing the ball up, looking nice
with the handle with Jason Kidd said he wants to
play a little point guard, not in this NBA. He's
got a lot of work to do with the handle. Also,
gotta get to a second move. He's used to being bigger, taller, stronger,
fast than most guys because most of the guys he
played against are gonna get jobs and insurance this next
(14:37):
you know fall and so he has this little turnaround move.
You gotta get a better move. You gotta get some
second move, some counter moves, which eventually he'll get. So
I think he'll be fine as a player, but again,
his day, but as you put it, I didn't put
too much stock out.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
It was the day, but it wasn't a debut.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
But I do only thing I said, I love his
max effort period. I was telling Rob G you were
on vacation, that that's the thing I know I can
count for him is a letticism and that he's gonna
play hard and care every single play. And I love
seeing that from him. But yeah, he'll he'll be fine.
He'll absolutely be fine. I'm sure he wanted to put
up twenty five and shoot seventy percent of you'll look
good because everybody's watching, but that's not always the case.
(15:13):
How do you bounce back? Also, you acting like this
magic first bird.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
I'm not saying that that's the way that they made
it is a sellout crowd. They're selling tickets, scalping for
two thousand dollars, all this stuff. Oh my god, I
gotta see Cooper Flag and Brodny.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
It was it was. It was a wet blanket. It was.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
It was a wet blanket. There was nothing there, nothing
to see. You would have been about to seeing Mike
Tyson and that thing that he had.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
On because I have had to see his cheeks and
I ain't sign up for that. Mike Tyson used to
punch people in the cheeks. Now, I don't want to
see yo chi.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
You gotta you gotta admit that was what? What was that? Five?
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Five for twenty one? Not let me tell you what
he said. Five for twenty one, cole, me tell you
what he said. That's a really, really bad night for anybody.
And one of the baskets is a dunk. So four
for twenty.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Let me tell you what that man did.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
Two for seventeen outside the restricted area for seventeen.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
I'm letting it fly like they did. And then well
what along came? Poly Let it rain, Let it raight.
I mean he didn't give a dang. He emptied the clip.
The Clips dropped the new album today. He was actingly
he was the third member of the Clips. He emptied
the Clips. But uh yeah, he'll be fine. I absolutely
(16:29):
love his aggression that. I love he taking it to her.
He tried to dunk.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
I'm just saying, I get it. Draw the script.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
If I'm the NBA, Yeah, my number one pick, he's
gonna ball out, have four alley.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Us hit a game winning three. You know you want
to draw that up. But I'm just saying and you
know this.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
They they'll down plays off night, but if he had
a big night, they would not complete it, right, they
would not downplay it and go, oh, it's only a
summer league game against guys who are not gonna be
in the league NBA.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Oh they're good against good team exactly.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
And then they were like, oh and Rady got that
because people watch games a different way now.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
That they and then they were good Team seven eighteen
and then a press release, Look at our ratings. I
thought you didn't care about ratings. Listen, I keep trying
to tell you this.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Okay, as a member and the founding member of the
CEO of MLB BRO, you supposed to know MLB.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Brocause you need to know. Well, you act like you
don't know. You know, marketing. I get it's going bad,
it didn't happen. If it's going good, it's the greatest
thing ever. Okay, here we go, Bronnie James Cooper flag.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
I just I just like once again, I was down
on the Mike Tyson, Jake Paul was I not.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
I told you it was gonna be a terrible and
I told you a lot of time. You know what
playing I took what Mike Tyson.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
He didn't tell us it was died before that after
the fighters like oh yeah, by the way, I had
blood clots and all that almost died.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Please can we have known that? Rob g I was
on Cousin sALS podcast cast the other day and he
was really like serious, He's like, you know how mad
I am about what? Because he because he actually bet
money on Tyson. He told me, he said, some people
remember that, a lot of people remember that. A lot
of people one thing to be like, oh I remember
(18:16):
God kept saying, oh t is gonna knock him out.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
I'm telling you.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
I did you watch his workout? You remember that on
the on social media? He looks great. He did look
good and ring okay. And all I'm gonna say is
am I here saying Cooper Flag can't play or it's
gonna be a no.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
I'm just saying that was a debacle. It was alterat.
It was terrible.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
If you have spent money to go see that kid
wet his pants and the playing an NBA game shoot
five for twenty like you probably would couldn't.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Find another five for twenty one day.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Would you admit that? I would say, look at some
of these games. You probably could. You watched It is
probably gonna be really good. He had a horrible first game,
rob what'd you think?
Speaker 5 (19:05):
I took it hard? You guys know this. I was
ready for the White Revolution.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Same. I'm not gonna lie anticipated Yes, it's so bad.
I've been doing this show almost a year. That man
ain't called me about nothing, rob G.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
I felt like he was nineteen sixty two all over again.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
That man called me. He told me me and you
can't vote no more. And I've never even he never
called me off script. That man costs yo.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
It's so real. Rob G thought he was gonna take
back our vote. That's how far back he was about
to take this thing. Robb G was.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
We were gonna get on there. We were gonna get over.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Next time we going to all to the We're gonna
go on the back of the he had to get
on the back of the bus.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
I got the plane. Robb G was wilding yesterday.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
I was gonna turn in my card to the cookouts.
I'm going to barbecues only from now on. Wow, that's
how I was feeling. It was gonna say, Robgie, where
you at? He said, sprouts?
Speaker 1 (19:53):
I said, why getting Raisins for the potato SIDEBG wallind
I was ready.
Speaker 5 (19:58):
I was ready for the Cooper flag. Kaitlin Clark's dominating
these two sports right here, and then.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Man, call your wife man, because see, I see the
only one who can bring you back.
Speaker 2 (20:07):

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Patrick Mahomes has the new haircut.
Speaker 7 (20:22):
Patrick Mahomes doing a media tour. Yep, couple new hair
who this Yeah, all we gotta do is say that
Nick Wrong is a co host on the show.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
He'll come on.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
I mean Nick Right, he might, but yes, he's been
doing the media rounds, most recently earlier this week, he
popped on with CNBC to discuss a myriad of topics.
One of the things that came up was the idea
of the long rumored eighteen game season that could be
on the horizon in the NFL. One asked about it,
Mahomes said, quote, if there were a way to get
(20:57):
to eighteen games, and I'm not a big fan of it,
but if there were a way, I think you got
to add some bye weeks in there to give more
time for guys' bodies.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Your thoughts, Well, this is what I think.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
First of all, ain't no what if if you got
the NFLPA, who's trying to act like, oh, we got
so many other things we got going on. First of all,
NFLPA that hardly ever does right by the players, So
let's just start. That was me trying to give them
one They never do right by the players, which means
players have mostly said they don't want to do this.
It's gonna happen, especially when it comes to big money,
(21:34):
which is what these owners want.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
So we're gonna get to eighteen games.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
And if you get to eighteen games, Robs, both of you,
Rob Park and Rob g well you know what eighteen
turns into twenty. And here's my thought and concern. One
of the things that's made the NFL great is a scarcity.
Was sixteen weeks for so long?
Speaker 3 (21:48):
Was twelve?
Speaker 1 (21:49):
It used to be twelve, twelve exactly was twelve. Then
of course they go to sixteen, fourteen, sixteen, so many years,
and then now we're at seventeen. But that's what makes
it great. Every game matters. You don't get a lot
of from a fans standpoint, you're locked in. I only
get these X amount of games. From a player standpoint,
every game matters, I'm locked in.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
I'm in.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
What I'm concerned is does eighteen stay at eighteen for two, three, four,
five years then jump to twenty and at what point,
for the first time will the NFL be taking a
hit in something we've never really had to consider, and.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
That is low management.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Because I started to think, specifically with a guy like
Patrick Mahomes who's really known nothing but success throughout his career,
rob what if we get to a point because there's
eighteen games, there's twenty games where teams ultimately like a
maybe the Buffalo Bills, maybe Lamar Jackson Ravens, maybe Patrick
Mahoons and the Chiefs, they're competing for playoffs and championships.
So now I'm gonna start to consider, Man, we are
(22:44):
sitting here at ten and three going into our second
bye week. I might sit Patrick Mahomes the week prior
to the buye, then have to buy and then sit
him another week, So that's three weeks that he's healthy,
he's fresh, because what is it Ultimately the Chiefs will
be playing for playoff deep playoff runs in Super Bowls,
and this is the first time I'm thinking hold on
the NFL.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
I know all money is good money and blah blah
blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
But that's what's made you great is we don't get
to see you all the time and don't come to
me players or league. If you're talking about we care
about player safety, stop it because adding.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
All these games only makes it long and elongate.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
It's the season and more opportunities for a guy gets
to get hurt, and I think is the first time
you might have to start considering will NFL players start
to load and load management.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
I'm not talking about last game of the season. I
sit down, we already got the division seld up.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
I'm talking about week eight, week twelve, because I'm starting
to think long term. I got to think for eighteen games,
we're up twenty games, and I think that is something
that for the first time we might have to consider
because they're clearly not thinking about players safety. That ain't
even an issue that no one cares about that players
or the owners at this point.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Here's my issue is that players, especially Patrick Mahome, shouldn't
be speaking on this. This should come from leadership from
the Players Association, one voice, one voice, not putting this
out about he I'm not a fan of it, but
let me tell you how it work. Let me, you
gotta have this, you gotta do this that that that
(24:11):
gives a credence.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
You can't tell me that owners and people are going on.
Did you hear Patrick?
Speaker 4 (24:16):
Oh? Okay, so he's not gonna come out if you
have the best of the best coming out against it,
saying no, but a singular voice the union and we've
talked about this.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
You beat me where I was about to bring up again. Yeah,
it's very simple.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
No, like one voice from the union and and the
way that they change all of this and stop. I
do not understand. I wish I would have two minutes
to go in and talk to the Advisory Board of
the Players Association. I would say, you guys want to
do right by the players. Forget about that stupid deal
(24:53):
you guys signed so you can smoke weed and practice less.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
That's what they' that's what they hang the right smoke
weed and practice less. I said. I would go into
the owners.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
Here's the CBA, the Major League Baseball players have with
the baseball owners. We want exactly what they have, exactly
what they have here it is, and if you don't
do it come September, we will not be playing football.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Okay. Or you do it before the super Bowl when.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
Everything's in place, we don't get a new deal or
situation set up, we will not play the super Bowl.
How did the baseball players get leverage? They stop the world? Citty,
they stop the world. But Rob, you and I have
talked about this. Everything you said makes sense. You and
I both agree.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
We say this at least once every month because something
comes up where we have to have this conversation. The
issue is that sounds good, but that four string defensive
back who's only making it.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
Can't be about it can't be about him. It's got
to be singular about everybody. And this is what you got.
You can't do that is what I'm saying. We have
to vote.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
And when we all start to vote, no, no, no,
your check hitting different, no, Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
But here's but here's the difference. I hear you.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
The reason the players have solidarity in Major League Baseball
is because the young player you're talking about, you're not
worried about paying your bills. The union has a ward chess, Calvin,
how much money do you need for your bills?
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Hold on? How much do you need? Here?
Speaker 4 (26:32):
It is when you get when we finished with this lockout, strike, whatever,
and they give us our money back, you take that money,
you put it back in the war chest. The reason
that the players Union gets beat like a drammer, they
don't they know that they don't have a war chest.
They know that people can't miss two paychecks or one paycheck.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
You have no leverage. But you have no leverage if
you have no war chess your honor. I object. Here's
why it sounds.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
First of all, again I agree, But here's the thing. A.
I have way more players in MLB, way more. No, No,
it's not that much. It's eleven hundred compared to eight hundred.
I have more players about league. I also don't have
guaranteed contracts. No, but so, but.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
I'm hearing you, that's what I'm competing for.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
What I'm saying is, guys only hear my contract ain't guaranteed.
So the stuff that you would have you might have
to sacrifice for them.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
It sounds like Alex I needed Charlie Brown. Woh w.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
That's what it sounds like. You and I agree. We've
been agreeing since since we started. But the fact is
they're like, yeah, no doubt, I hear you, I hear you.
This is because they can't commit. It's a commitment and
the sacrifice to do it.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
You cannot.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
You cannot, Okay, whenever you have membership, union membership and
you're voting.
Speaker 7 (27:51):
To get that's.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
What they hear of, to get paid or not get paid.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
The vote can never be that, okay because people always
go to vote to get paid. So do you you
it can't be about that. No, the money's not an issue.
Guess what, we got you covered for next season.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
So then you're gonna be relying on the starts to
jump started. No, no, you're gonna say, hey, we're gonna
we're gonna jump everybody.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
Everybody has to put money in, but they get the
money back and that's the only way you have any
kind of leverage. But but it's it's a shame because
it's not just Major League Baseball. Everybody else, even the
NHL is a better deal. They have better health care, retirement,
everybody's better. Now, that's that's the thing that we're talking about.
It's not like baseball superior and and nobody else has anything. No,
(28:39):
all the NBA contracts, NHL contracts guaranteed. They have been
bamboozled and allowed to believe that they shouldn't have guaranteed contracts,
which they should. Should they be shorter, yes, Should you
be able to play for two years or to sign
a three year deal.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
If you're good, you get more money. If not, they
let you go. That's just like any.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Other stem because it's a physical demanding sport and the
eyes don't last as long, and we know that, and
it absolutely should be that case. They should get guaranteed
because you know what the NFL likes to do rob
new deal. This just came in seven years, two hundred
and eighty million, but.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
Only about eighty of a guaranteed, and they love.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
To toudde all the money we're throwing around these guys.
I wouldn't even want to let you put that out
there to make it look like you're throwing money around. No,
put out the number what it is, the real seven
years abuck twenty, that's what it's not a seven years
to ten
