You're listening to the best of the Odd Couple.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
That's what I'm here for. Set the table. I didn't
say that's the dishes. I did not say that, vacuum
the carpet. Did I say that that's what it feels like?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
I mean, you do always say you're an old man,
and that's all old people do.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
But rob G, these are my keys. I'm just wowow wow,
rob G. One day, let me tell you something.
Speaker 5 (00:45):
Can I say something short that's nothing compared to What's
happened to me in my life where I've been.
Speaker 6 (00:50):
Handed Uh tell them.
Speaker 5 (00:52):
Standing in front of a restaurant after I paid two
hundred dollars for a meal and they're like, h can
you get my calls?
Speaker 4 (00:59):
No, I'm waiting for my car. Do I look like
I'm a valet? And the guy goes, well, you do.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
The difference is they didn't know you. You do know me,
and he still has me to do all this stuff.
But at any event, Yes, the Philadelphia Eagles New York
Giants big game tonight Thursday Night Football, and you touched
on it briefly. The Eagles offense has been stuck in
the mud relatively all season. They're averaging just two hundred
and sixty two yards a game, down over one hundred
(01:29):
from last season. And while they're great in the red
zone because of the Tush push, everything else is down.
Jalen hurts passing yards per attempt is down, Squon Barkley's yards,
rushing yards per game, and down DeVante Smith, AJ Brown
receptions and receiving yards per game down off which culminated
(01:51):
with Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, and AJ Brown having a
powwow earlier this week, which they didn't mean to get public,
but of course it's always becainst public.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Alex, how come that's not racist? Pow wow?
Speaker 3 (02:03):
No, to try to figure out what's going on, how
do they fix it? How do they all get on
the same page. And I guess we'll find out in
about an hour whether that meeting had any kind of value.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
We talked about this a lot last year with the
Kansas City Chiefs and that something seemed a little bit off.
You know, there's something that they were finding ways to
win a game. They were finding ways to get the
you know, the lucky players or the fate seemed to
favor them. And that's kind of funny that that's what
we're doing now. At that time, they were the reigning
Super Bowl champs, and now we're kind of seeing the
same thing with the Eagles, where you know, we come
(02:41):
on on the Monday after a game and we go, well,
well they won, that's all that matters, but it didn't
look good or who thank God for the.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Block kick that's up you gotta Last year, you didn't
complain about the offense and about him throwing last year.
What do you mean, Yeah, I said no, I said,
you said he was the weak link and passing team.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
They were the seventh last year.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
You said going into the super Bowl, that's why you
thought that they couldn't win or something because he had
if he had the.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
P if this is right, so right, But I have
no idea what they had to do anything we're talking about.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Because talking about the Chiefs and how the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
We all were saying, man, the office doesn't look right,
and yet they were still able to go fifteen and
two and ultimately get you.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
I don't think that they were as bad as the
Chiefs were, but good they are as bad.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Last year.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
They are statistically worse right now. Rob just told you
the last year. They're looking at the the Eagles this year.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
I'm talking about the Eagles last year during the season.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
I'm saying the Chiefs last year, who are the Ranning
Super Bowl champs? We had issues because offense wasn't the greatest.
Patrick Mahomes had to talk about. I know I'm not
right now, I'm not the greatest. The team ain't looking
the greatest. I'm saying it's ironic that the team that
was the Ragning champ then the Chiefs. It's similarly happening
to the Eagles this year, the reigning champs, where the
offense looks bad to almost a plunderd plus yards per
(04:07):
game down Sakwon Barkley's running crazy two thousand yards down
averaging thirty again.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
Thirty something yards a game. Everything's gonna happen crazy right now.
Offensive line last three one point one yards is terrible.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah, and then when you start to look at their
rankings right now, it's like concerning. They're thirty first and
passing yards per game at twenty fifth in rushing with
ninety nine yards a game. He's averaging three point one
yards per carry. So something's going on. But also to me.
Speaker 5 (04:35):
That the coordinator that that that doesn't factor in at
all the offense offense they ranked, I'm basically one everything,
but but everybody's not the same, and everybody doesn't do
the jap job at the same the Lion's higher within
the building. Correct, you were in the building, I know,
but I'm just saying, okay, but the new offensive quarter,
I'm asking you you think it has anything to do
(04:56):
with with.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
The hundred yards here's less a game. I've given you something.
One hundred and five yards less is crazy being the
second rushing team and now you're not. It's crazy right
now the twenty fifth rushing team. You go from second.
So there's offensively something's wrong. But more concerning for me,
rob because things happen, you can be down. It's early
(05:18):
to see it. I understand that, But more concerning for
me is what's going on within the building is there's
some disconnect vibe wise, chemistry wise, personally between AJ Brown
and specifically Jalen Hurts. We've gone through this last year
and they were able to work it out and you know, oh,
we had at Kumbaya moment. We talked it through. Then
the book comes out. Then we're going into this year.
We've already had two instances where AJ Brown is spoken up, well,
(05:42):
I don't know why the offense can't be better. I
don't know why we're not doing this, And I understand
it's frustration. He believes he's a top tier, top three
receiver and he's getting treated like he's a fourth to
fifth stringer by not getting the ball, so I can
understand his frustration. Then you get to quiet DeVante Smith,
who generally doesn't say much. He's coming out and talking
about it.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
So I'm one.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Now they just had to have a player's meeting, and
they're trying to say it wasn't like a typical player's
only meeting. It was more of a friends getting together,
which I've been saying they should and stop telling us
as much.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
But I'm just concerned.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Is there something going on where they're not on the
same page and it starts to affect them within the
locker room.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
That's a big concern for me.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
If it were just had offensive down twenty thirty yards
a game from last year our new coordinator, things happened
down one hundred plus yards a game is crazy, right,
I don't.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
I just want you to explain what what would be
to disconnect this. They're not new, so you're saying they
have a personal beef and that's why the numbers are down.
I'm saying, you think we had one hundred and some
odd yards that was two weeks ago. Okay, so then
the next week he doesn't have a cost tonight.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
But that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
So it's not like Jalen Hirsch isn't throwing them the
ball because they got a perfect a personal beef. I
don't know where the personal part would have to because
it personal. Answer it personal doesn't have to be you
call my girlfriend at this it's going to be I
don't like the way you play, I don't like the
way you're two weeks ago, and then so he threw
(07:11):
to them that week. But you know, but I'm asking you.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Know where he is where he should be to one
hundred million dollars receiver.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
It's not where you should be because the goal is
to win football game.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Clearly, you're saying that get that clearly, that's.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Not the Clearly, that's not the goal with a J. Brown.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
No, that's fine, but that's a J. Brown clearly and
get the ball. That doesn't mean that that's the right
way to do it.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
I'm not saying I'm saying that clearly. I've talked about
I wish he would handle a difference. I've said it.
But what I think he's saying is we can't continue
to operate. When you look at Super Bowl champion teams,
they usually are in the top five offensively. Over the
last decade or so, they usually finished in the top five.
Last year, the Eagles word a top seven scoring in
(07:58):
the top seven offense.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Year five.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
You're you're saying that that they have no shot to
move up or get better after five weeks offensively.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Yeah, Oh, I don't think they'll get You don't go
one hundred and seven, one hundred.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
They're not gonna get any better off They can get better.
They that they can get better. That's what makes it weird, Rob,
If I told you I just don't get the hard.
I don't.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
That's where I disagree with you.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
I understand the struggles, but I also know that teams
struggle sometimes to start a see year between those guys. No,
but that's fine. He'll never be satisfied unless you okay.
So he's one of those guys. And there are a
lot of receivers who they don't care about anything. They
just want the ball and that's all. So that I
get that that's a diva mentality. I don't see anything
(08:44):
from Jalen Hurts that would make this personal, like he's
deliberately going away and it would be something if two
weeks ago he didn't throw for over get over one
hundred yards in passing. And that's my point is that, yes,
has it's been spotty up and down. I just don't
think it's personal. And if they continue to lose. If
they win today and they have a comfortable win, now
(09:06):
what Okay, they should beat the giants, and.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
I just don't you think that's problematic.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
I get what you're saying. I totally get. So if
they play well and win the night, what was the story?
What was the story?
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Let's say they play well and win, but AJ Brown
gets two receptions for.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Aj brown problem. And that's what I'm saying. There's something
going on.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
You're you're saying it as if I'm saying Jalen Hurts
is a bad guys. I'm saying Aj has an issue
with Jalen because we've gone through this now for a
couple of seasons. Whether it be you aren't looking my way.
I also think there's a disconnect and what they view
as open. I think Aj Brown says anytime I run forward,
I'm open, Throw me the ball, whereas Jalen Hurts is
(09:48):
looking schematically, you know where's the separation?
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Are you getting two three yards away from the defender?
Speaker 1 (09:52):
AJ Brown is saying throw me the ball because the
game you keep referring to, he wasn't really open.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
They were just throwing in the ball. He was deboing.
Speaker 2 (09:59):

Joined by Mike Cameron, former MLB All Star, and Cameron
forty four on X Give a Follow.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Mike, what's going on? What's happening in Mike?
Speaker 9 (10:58):
What's up? Fellas?
Speaker 4 (10:59):
Y'all do?
Speaker 9 (11:01):
Right?
Speaker 4 (11:01):
October Baseball? That's all that matters, right, Yeah, that.
Speaker 9 (11:05):
Is true when you're in it, definitely, that's how that matters.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
Oh, definitely, no doubt about it.
Speaker 5 (11:11):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
I want to start with your former Seattle.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
Mariners and their big game tomorrow against the Tigers. And
Mike Cameron of course had the he was traded for
Ken Griffy Junior. I mean talk about that. I'll be
bringing that up for no reason right at the party,
you know, I was.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
I want you to know that.
Speaker 9 (11:35):
Uh hey, man, anytime you know, you get traded for
a killer in the game, Man, it's it's always something
that I can always look back on. But at the time, man,
it was it wasn't good for my mental betimes of
the situation. But other than that, you know, it worked
out good. I'm glad you got a chance to play
in Seattle because now that is a part of my
(11:58):
my home. That's you know. I actually worked for the teams,
so you know, and so I got a chance to
really get my identity out of Seattle after chasing the
chasing the ghosts of Ken Griffey Jr. Around out there
and kind of made my own and the people took
me in, man, and everything worked out well. You know.
We were we had a good team. We won a lot.
(12:20):
We just then couldn't clips the championship mode because of
those those brutal Yankees back.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
There, you go, right, they were always in the way,
always somehow. But now Seattle has a team. I mean,
they have a chance to beat the Tigers at home
game five, and I don't know what it is, uh
schoobl against the Mariners is owing three yeah, yeah, with
an eer ray of almost four and a half or something.
How big would that be if they could beat Tyrek Schoolbell,
(12:47):
you know, to get to the Alcs.
Speaker 9 (12:50):
I mean one thing to do is to beat him
four times is gonna be a tough test. I mean
just going up and gets him. In general, it was
a tough task.
Speaker 7 (12:57):
Man.
Speaker 9 (12:58):
That's the reason why he's been, you know, uh, previous
young winner and been as good as he's been over
the last few years, because he has that type of
stuff to dominate the lineup at any given time. And
I just think that in our sense that sometimes you know,
players or teams can have your number, and uh, the
(13:18):
only thing you can do in this last game here
is try to try to outlast s Google without giving
up too much to to the Tigers. But I know
they're gonna be confident coming in there because they have
the best picture, uh as of now right now, the
best picture in the league, you know, starting for them,
and so it's gonna be a tough fast man and that.
But this is what it's all about, man, It's when
(13:39):
it takes all and it's versus the best, and.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
You know that place is gonna be lit.
Speaker 6 (13:45):
That place is gonna be lit in Seattle, you know that, Mike.
Speaker 9 (13:49):
Oh man, it's gonna be crazy.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
Man.
Speaker 9 (13:51):
You know, Seattle is always crazy anyway, you know, because
of the history only getting there a few times and
then it's just been like a very draft spell for
many of years. And now these people have a chance
not only have a team to beat the Detroit Tigers
in this uh aods, but also feel really good about
(14:12):
the chances of possibly, you know, playing the Alcs against
Toronto and in the World Series. Just the type of
roster that they have now that's capable of doing that.
And it all starts on the own. Every every game
is started by the momentum is started by the starting pitcher.
And so if you can do that and try to outlast,
you know, one of their great guys over there, you're
(14:32):
gonna give yourself a pretty good chance, especially being at home.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Well you mentioned I actually even though you know, I'm
rooting for my Tigers, but I picked the Mariners to
get to the World Series. So uh me, really this yeah, remember, yeah,
I had the Dodgers Mariners. What I had Dodgers Mariners
and Dodgers winning it. Let me ask you this you
mentioned obviously the chance to competing for a chance to
go and play the Blue Jays, who just beat the Yankees.
(14:56):
So what what about the blue Jays are they'll be
ignoring them? Obviously it was all Guerrero Junior, Dandy was
going crazy during.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
That flawed team. But they've they how they pull off, yeah,
beating the Yankees.
Speaker 9 (15:08):
They're just they're one of those teams, man, that that
everyone on the team seems to put the ball in play.
And there's nothing wrong. I know, everyone lives and downs
with the loan ball, but before you hit the loan ball,
you gotta make contact. And this is what that team
does that they don't get out of side of who
they are. Uh. And they got like these some young
guys in a ball pen and the starters guys are
(15:29):
blowing a hundred and doing everything. Man, So they got
they give you different looks from that perspective. But you know,
and they also got a couple of guys around Guerrero
Junior where you got to pitch to him. You can
make your choice as to what you want to do.
And uh, but he I couldn't believe how much the Yankees.
Yankees were pitching it to him, because Guerrero is not
(15:49):
one of those guys that's just trying to go up
and hit balls. He'll hit the ball on the first baby, Yeah,
doubles these line drives and he puts the ball in play,
and they don't chase a lot either. So when you
get a combination of those type of things, you put
a lot of pressure on the defense and a lot
of freshre on the pitching.
Speaker 5 (16:06):
I wonder about Anthony Volpi, the Yankee shortstop, and whether
or not he was hurt this year, Mike, because you
want to talk about a fall off like by epic.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Proportion, and you saw it this year.
Speaker 5 (16:21):
Fielding wise, he made a ton of errors at one point.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Did he stopped with that?
Speaker 6 (16:26):
And in this playoff series against Toronto?
Speaker 5 (16:28):
I think he struck out every time except two or
three times at the play he struck out like over
twelve times in this series. Does he look hurt or
something or what it was? How could somebody fall off
like that?
Speaker 9 (16:41):
Well, I'll tell you what, Rob, you know, just looking
at it, you know, and then being an ex player
and just kind of like understanding of what's on the
diamond and what goes around the scenes, you know, I've
always been a fan of Blopi, but on defense, you
playing a short side, you've got to catch him Paul,
and I think he got a little bit easy with
his footwork, and then I heard that then I heard
(17:02):
it had like an injury or something like that. So psychologically,
when you get an injury, mom it makes you feel
like you've got to do something different at the plate.
Whether in his case it was like he had to
speed up some and he also has some mechanical flaws,
and he also chases. So you can't have all three
of those teams come together and think you're going to
(17:23):
have success in the big leagues, especially now with the
way these guys are throwing a baseball, you know, one
hundred plus mile now ninety seven at least ninety six
to one hundred miles now on every single day. I
think the one thing Bilopi tried to do was he
tried to become I think he had a twenty twenty
season and then everybody thought that he's supposed to, you know, hit,
become a home run here, and this is really they
(17:46):
brought him up really early, and so it takes a
couple of years for young players to gain from at
bats and get a feel for who you are as
a player. And by him coming up young come in
coming in to play short stuff for the New York Yankees,
and they are always on go, trying to win it.
(18:07):
The crowd in the in the fan base really jumped
on him because man like, we're trying to win games
and we're playing at a deficit because of the way
the young players slaying. But in reality, it just takes
time to mature as a player. Also, I think he
still is only like twenty three or twenty four years old.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
This series was just so bad.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
One for fifteen Yeah, no walks and eleven strikeouts. I
mean that's you almost can't you can't, right, You got
one quick one, yeah, real quick for we got about
it and left.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Ye about a minute here, Mike, let me ask you this.
We've kind of talked on the playoffs. One of the
things that happened in last week or so. We get
the announcement about the abs automatic balls and strikes.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
You in on it.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
You like it, You think it's good for the game,
bad for the game. If you were still playing, you know,
and you would have a chance to challenge balls and strikes,
what would you would you like this idea, you know,
just me.
Speaker 9 (18:57):
Being being a part of my league system, being a
pleaving and going down and seeing it. Man, I think
it's gonna be a benefit. You know, it's already hard
enough for guys to actually to judge the strike zone
with with the velocity of the balls coming in and
the smaller strike zone system. So I just think that
helping guys get it right. I don't think it's gonna
be a problem. I think the guys are just to
(19:17):
it a little bit better because most of the young
guys are coming up. I think maybe the older guys
that have a problem with it, and some of the
some of the veteran pictures. But for the most part, man,
I think I think it's gonna be a good idea.
Speaker 6 (19:28):
Mike, Mike, Here's this is what scares me really, and
I know we gotta go.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
One just scares me.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
Is that you just have to nick that box and
not throw the ball over the plate. And I and
I'm fearful. Do you know what I mean? That that that,
like the Star play, old Tony's gonna get called out
on a ball that just nicked right the corner of
the box and not not really come over the plate.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Is that?
Speaker 6 (19:51):
Is that?
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Am I being foolish thinking that?
Speaker 9 (19:55):
No, it's definitely gonna be a problem, such for guys
who've already established themselves in the big league and understanding
their strike zone, and now they're having pretty much a
virtual strike zone for everyone. And I think that's going
to be an issue in that case. But for the
most part, man, the guys will adjust, they'll kind of
get used to it in a sense. But I think
(20:16):
the pitchers are going to manipulate the strike zone at
their best. But also it's going to benefit some guys
in some of those close calls that we're not used
to seeing.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
All right, well, we'll wait see what it all happens. Man.
Appreciate you.
Speaker 9 (20:31):
All right, fellers, y'all take care.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio AIP.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
All Right, update real quick, the Cubs and Brewers are
staring about an hour.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
But it's one nothing, Phillies. There was a double play attempt.
Speaker 5 (20:52):
Yeah, yeah, tried to uh, the pitcher tried to cover
first the ball got away and put a runner in
scoring position, and then the next guy, who is that
Cassiano's doubled to left field. So the Phillies one nothing,
man on second and there's only one out.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
So yeah, and MANSI was concerned when it happened. She
and yeah, she is me. He was solid and then
that last out and we saw in one grade and
now you wonder if he's a little shook us from that.
Speaker 10 (21:22):
Yeah, he was great during the regular season and then
his last postseason appearance, which was short. It just was
not something that left me feeling comfortable. So I wasn't
sure what we were gonna see. And we know that
Nick Castallanos likes to perform in big moments.
Speaker 11 (21:35):
That's the only thing he does, right.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
But he does get hits. But yeah, listen, you have
a one.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
Even even the other night, if you remember Game two
in Philadelphia, he got the hit.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
You know what I mean. He wound up getting out
at third base, but he gets hit. Yeah.
Speaker 10 (21:49):
Yeah, the running wasn't great there, but he always tends
to hit when it matters.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
Right, But this was this was what we talk about
this all the time. When you make a misk, you
in the playoff and always seemed just come.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
I said that to you right there. I was like,
because that's what we've been talking about. Every pitch, every
little miss que, bad ball, wall, something off you missed.
You know, you kind of lose sight of it in
the outfield because you're ready to already loo where I'm
gona throw it, and you drop it like Aaron Judge did.
Just stuff happens and then it kind of can unfold
from there. So if you can get out of this,
that'd be great. But that they're on the board now.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
I'm surprised you guys haven't mentioned Dave Roberts pulling Glass
now six shutout in strikeouts, only scattered to it.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
So what was he had? Eighty three pitches?
Speaker 3 (22:32):
I saw they pull him to get she in andto
Monci's point in this postseason, coming into this game two
in the thirds inning, four hits, allowed, three earned runs,
two walks, one strikeout, e ra a A chubby to
what Ron Parker eleven point five to seven? I love that,
and he's the guy to reply, No, Glass, Now, what is.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
The reason Because your bullpens lined up for certain way.
I hate when they pitched out of the bullpen. The
other night. He pitched that the other day.
Speaker 11 (23:01):
The plan was always for him to be available for
this game.
Speaker 10 (23:03):
He did pitch out of the bullpen, but it was
a short maybe two innings.
Speaker 11 (23:07):
The plan was always for him to start.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
No, no, no, I'm saying, but why you didn't keep having
them go further?
Speaker 11 (23:12):
That's what I don't think. I don't think so, because they.
Speaker 6 (23:15):
Use it when they put them out of the bullpen.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
It was like instead of having a throw day, you
know what I mean, that was like, we'll just have
you throw in the game rather than throwing the side.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
So that's why they thought we could have him do that.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
And still you know, have them pitch exactly. But I
don't know.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
I mean, you're right, rob g eighty three pitches doesn't
seem like he's gassed to me.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
And what do we talk about with the Tigers?
Speaker 1 (23:37):
And obviously he lost the game ultimately school but it
wasn't because of him, you know, he pitched well, I mean,
why can't guys go seven?
Speaker 4 (23:43):
They can't seven two thirds?
Speaker 11 (23:46):
If you're good enough, give me the whole game.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Nolan Ryan ain't walking through these doors.
Speaker 11 (23:52):
I want him. I want to through these doors to
resurrect and other little kids. So in a couple of
years we're seeing them.
Speaker 6 (23:59):
Is that I'm gonna end on this, on this whole thing.
Speaker 5 (24:02):
Nolan Ryan once pitched the game and extra this is crazy,
and Monty threw two hundred and thirty five pictures. Look
it up if you guys think I'm crazy, two hundred
and thirty five pitches.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Rob g he made his next start. That's crazy, Robby.
What all I tell you when we call? We do
our call every day, I say, Robbie.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Kobe Bryant scoring eighty one, He's that still needs to
talk about every day, like, hey, wescome the show. By
the way, Kobe Bryan scored, but that needs to be
the second shi we need to say.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
By the way, Nolan Ryan did two two hundred and pictures.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
That don't even make it like they guys can't go
any more than eighty now.
Speaker 11 (24:38):
They're like us than hundred.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
They're like last now is last pitch. He struck out
the last guy. He faced ninety seven miles an hour.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
Wow, So what I don't know? She? I mean the
only guy got the one. They got a bigger question.
Speaker 6 (24:54):
Why your guys dealing?
Speaker 3 (24:56):
He's all They scattered to its he struck out two
of the last three guys he faced.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
You know what it is, well, I mean, I don't
know if this is about to be the topic of
the day, but I'll just answer that real quick, Robie.
I think they're playing so far along like the long game,
whereas historically you name the sport, it was in the moment.
Speaker 6 (25:15):
No, no, not now. It's just it's they look.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
At the numbers and know that people the third time around,
the averages are better. If I see a guy three
times in a game compared to two, I have a
better shot. But that's still that's what the that's what
they're doing. But I don't agree with that. I don't
agree if somebody has good stuff and it's pitching a
good game until they get in trouble, I'm not taking
them out.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
I'm just that that's me. No, No, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (25:40):
When guy or something, you give up, all right, come
on out. You don't have it, I got it.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
If a guy still has it, it's absolutely no problem
to go ahead. But they're to me, they they're looking
too far ahead, and sometimes in the moment, like you said,
I gotta look at my guy. He's gonna give me
a look and be like, no, I'm a one and
you ain't pulling me out this game?
Speaker 4 (25:59):
Who did that? Snaill? Earlier?
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Snell was like, hey, you ain't pulling me out. You
need that And right now what they're doing is all right,
this is his second time. There'll be third time, seeing
then numbers saying indicators indicate that if he and they
have two left handers coming, So what we need to do?
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Man, Sometimes you gotta just go in the moment. We're
trying to win a series.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
All right, Hey, if you're gonna do that, why are
you paying a g got thirty million dollars if you're
gonna treat him like he's the random I believe it
doesn't even make sense.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Like it's like a receiver one hundred million dollars and.
Speaker 6 (26:26):
You don't know the basin. He was trying to slip
that in, like I know what he's talking.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (26:32):
No, No, I don't know. Because you're winning the game.
It's the game winning game. No, I get it. Let's
go here. The Yankees are eliminated, and the Blue Jays celebrated,
and they did, they did their thing, and the manager
was in there at the you know.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
To start spreading the news. He was singing Fight Sinatra.
That was a dig at the Yankees.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
And now people are like, oh, the Yankees got their
longest championship route.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
They haven't won since two thousand.
Speaker 6 (27:02):
And nine, sixteen seasons.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
Now for the Yankee that's a long because they've won
twenty seven championships and they are used to winning every
so often, or at least, you know, they're in there
a lot, but they were used to winning. And now
that people are saying whether or not they're still the
pre eminent franchise in Major League Baseball, And I'm gonna
tell you what, are.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
You gonna tell me? They still are?
Speaker 6 (27:28):
And and people it's hard to win.
Speaker 5 (27:31):
And I'm gonna even like the Dodgers, Right, we talk
about they've won two in the last since twenty twenty, Right,
they've won two since. But before that twenty twenty, they
went thirty one years. They won in like nineteen eighty
eight or something, right, yeah, nineteen eighty eight and then
two thousand was that thirty two years?
Speaker 4 (27:51):
Like it's hard to win.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
The Rangers had never won, they won a World Series,
you know, like you could go on and on and on.
Tigers haven't won since nineteen eighty four. The Mets haven't
won since nineteen eighty six. Can I go on?
Speaker 2 (28:07):
And on?
Speaker 5 (28:07):
I can go on. The Angels haven't won since two
thousand and two. We can go on. It's hard to win.
But the Yankees are always in the mix, and they
are always viable, and it always feels like they have
a shot at some point, and they've come close. And
when finally made to the World Series, they lost to
the Astros during the cheating scandal.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
Right there were in the right they were in the Alcs.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
Then they lost on Game seven on a pitch that
they thought they knew what was coming. If you remember
Altuve hit that home run and then didn't want his
jersey pulled off, and there you go, five to But
you know what I'm saying, I don't think anybody has
replaced the Yankees. We know the Dodgers and Yankees are
two of the premiere franchises. We call the Dodgers now
(28:54):
the Evil Empire because they're spending money like it's going
out of style. They're trying to do something that the
last team that did it right well, the Yankee Yankees
in ninety nine two thousand, they won back to back.
Speaker 6 (29:05):
No one's done it in twenty five years.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
The Dodgers are trying to do it.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
But I still think they're the pre eminent franchise in
Major League Baseball.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
So I'm not gonna act like I can ignore what
the Yankees have been for the last hundred and hundred
and fifty years whatever. But what I what I'll do
is and I was just explaining this Monty and I
during the break, we were talking about we're talking sports,
and it ended up talking about Clippers.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
You know, she's a Clipper fan.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
And I'll give you an example what I think the
Dodgers may have done to the Yankees. That is, there's
a younger generation who if you're thirty and under, well,
if you're thirty and under, you have seen maybe even
thirty five. You've seen the Dodgers. As you mentioned, they've
been to four World Series. They won a couple twenty twenty,
twenty twenty four. Uh so that's a huge thing. You've
(29:48):
seen them win a couple. You've seen them been to
four World Series. Where you haven't seen that with the
Dodgers or with the Yankees. They got the two rings
they've won their division twelve out of thirteen times. So
you talk about always being there, the Dodgers are always
at least in the postseason because they won their division
twelve out of thirteen times. So what reminded me of
is they have a chance to kind of what the
Clippers had a chance to do here in La. If
(30:10):
you were a kid between seven eight ish to like
fourteen fifteen, well, when the Lakers were really bad, those
last five six years of Kobe run and they just
were a bad team. All of a sudden, the Clippers
were really good, and they were fun and they're exciting.
It was Chris Paul was Lop City. If you were
a kid, that was lit, like, oh shoot, dunks everywhere,
Jamal Crawford handles crazy plays, and that was a fun team.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
But they didn't win.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
And I was telling Monty earlier they had a chance
to maybe steal some of the shine. And that's what
I think the Dodgers have done to the Yankees the
last handful of years, ten years or so, take a
little bit of the shine, just a little bit. Historically,
nobody can top to Yankee. So I agree with that,
But a couple other things where I know the Dodgers
are making some dance into that it might be the
team of the now. When I got a house Steinbrenner
(30:53):
commenting back in January, and you and I talked about
it that the Dodgers massive spinning was quote difficult for
most of us owners. When I got a House starting
brother of the Yankees, who have been outspinning everybody, the
biggest spinners for the last fifty years, and all of
a sudden, they're like, Yeah, I don't like what those
Dodgers are doing. They're buying up everybody. It's not fair
(31:13):
for the rest of us. That's what I knew. The
Dodgers are starting to become the evil Empire and take
some of the thrown from the Yankees. When I got
the owner of the Yankees saying, ah, man, I don't
like what they're doing, and I like ice Q's performance
over fact, Joe's performers too last season in the postseason.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
But I think the I think.
Speaker 5 (31:29):
The Dodgers because of the rings, because of all the
player here's mony.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Oh what you got hi, guys, Oh what just happened?
Speaker 4 (31:40):
She's doing her record?
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Okay, I thought she I thought, I'm just looking like this.
Something just happened to show Hey the Grand Slam.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
And Judge might come back next year.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
And my last point too is I also think rob
the Dodgers being able to get Mookie, keep them, Freddie
Freeman got them, keep them, show Hey, Yoshi Noble. I
think they have the big stars that are staying there too.
I think the star power is added as well. So
historically I can't argue with I mean, the Yankees are
the Yankees are the Yankees, but I think the Dodgers
have made a massive dent the last decade or so
(32:09):
and be kind of taking some of that little bit
of that shine and maybe becoming the team of the now.
Speaker 5 (32:14):
Okay, even though the Giants have won three World Series
in the last twenty years,
