Rob and Kelvin tell us if it’s fair to suggest that Joe Burrow should just retire from the NFL given that he has admittedly stopped having fun playing football, tell us why the Oklahoma City Thunder are bad for the NBA, and explain why Cam Newton has no right to feel slighted after the Indianapolis Colts signed Philip Rivers out of retirement to be their QB1.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
You're listening to the best of the Odd.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Couple, all right, Rob G. Joe Burrow's been through a
lot in his NFL career. He got hurt his first year,
came back his second year, took the Bengals to the
Super Bowl somehow, some way, and every year it seems
like he's banged up or has to miss some games
or something's happening with him. And he had some kind

(00:44):
of cryptic comments that people are reading.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Into guys worse than that.

Speaker 5 (00:49):
Joe Burrow has been heard basically every season since twenty seventeen.
Back in our lashed they broke a bone in his
thrown at twenty seventeen torn rib cardialgellis you in twenty
twenty torn aclcl twenty twenty within the Bengals, So that
was in the same season, like same calendar year. Got
heard at LSU got heard again with the Bengals twenty
twenty one, dislocates his pinky twenty twenty two ruption appending

(01:10):
twenty twenty three. Capstrained twenty twenty three to end the season,
torn wrist ligament twenty twenty five, turf toe, which is
wearing a metal plate in his gleat right now. Even still,
he came back early from the injury, beats Baltimore. In
his first game back, goes toe to toe with Josh Allen,
comes up short. Effectively They're not totally out of it,
but effectively ending any chance they had of making the postseason.

(01:33):
And yesterday when he met with the media, he looked despondent.
He sounded desponding. You don't believe me. Take a listen.

Speaker 6 (01:40):
I want to keep doing this. I have to have
fun doing it. You know, I've been through a lot,
and if it's not fun, then what am I doing
it for. I'm not sure. I'm not sure there is
a singular moment or of time. It's just a reflection,
reflection on a lot of things that I've done and
been through in my career. I think I've been through

(02:01):
more than most and it's certainly not easy on the
brain or the body. So let's trying of if I'm
doing it again.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Uh, Joe Burrow, this is a public service announcement to you.
Is this odd at twenty nine years old? This isn't
a reflection. You don't sound like you want to play football,
like it's taking a.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Toll on you. I got a message for you.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Retire, Joe Burrow. Retire. It's okay for real. You got
your whole life ahead of you. Whenever you start talking
about reflecting about this a forty year old guy, maybe
a thirty eight year old guy twenty nine, and you're

(02:46):
feeling that downtrodden, that beat up and not excited about
playing football. Seriously, I respect Andrew Luck, he said no.
Moss Kelvin and I both.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
Know football players who don't even like playing football.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
But they do it to make money. Is the biggest
dirty secret in the sports. They make a lot of money.
I'm six foot eight, I'm three hundred and fifty pound.
I can't too there's no other job I'm gonna get
paid to do anything working in an office. I can't
even fit into a cubicle. But the idea that once

(03:27):
you start talking about you're not having fun if you're
twenty nine years old and you don't feel like you're
having fun as a professional athlete, that's a red flag.
That's two red flags. If this was the seventies, that

(03:48):
would be a fanny flag.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
It just means that you should really reconsider where you
are in life and whether or not you want to continue,
because it's scary when you go out there and your
heart's not in it. You could get hurt.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
And it sounds like he's taking a beating and it
is weighing on him. That's why when guys retire early
or whatever, Right, Sam, I mean, uh, I'm not thinking
of with the rams. Uh uh Donald? Aaron Donald, Aaron Donald,
I'm sorry I said Aaronda.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
I respect. He won a super Bowl, he got paid.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
He's like, I'm good, thank you. He had years ago.
He looks great now, he's happy with his family. I'm good.
And Joe Burry can say whatever you want. Took the
Cincinnati Bengals to the super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
They didn't win.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
You can't tell me he wasn't a great quarterback and
his numbers and all this other stuff and what he
was able to do before he showed up there.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
They couldn't get to the they couldn't win.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
A playoff game. They were oh to seven in playoff games.
So he accomplished something. He didn't win a championship. But
if you're not having fun at twenty nine in the
National Football League, I'm telling you.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
Joe Burrow retire. So you touched on a couple of things.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
The first thing that jumped out to me when he
was talking about that Rod was brain. He said, you
know all this ways on the brain and the body,
specifically with the brain, that's the mental part. That's the
mental part that a lot of the fans don't ever
get to see her here because we look at the
physical Aaron Donald looks like a specimen. Me and Rob
g were just talking about that a couple of weeks ago,
because he always posting something on socials and him working

(05:35):
out still, people are.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Like, man, come to my team, come to my team.
You're in great shake. It's the mentals.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
It's the do I want to put up with going
back to back with injuries, going through the rehab, going
through the mental anguish of am I going to be
the same even when I rehab well, I come back
to saying. It's the traveling, It's the first time your
kids say, Daddy, why can't you ever drop me off
of school? It's all of these things that come in
with being a professional. It ain't just the it ain't

(06:00):
just Sundays they sign up for just Sundays, right, It's
all the other parts. It's the money and what it
comes with it, and family and cousins out the blue
calling you, and you know the challenges with having contracts
and disputes what organizations, and your teammates wants to get
paid and you got to speak for him.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
All of that ways on you.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
And when you're Joe Burrow and you've been dealing with
injury after injury from college to the pros, you're in
a bad team. You make them good, but they're still
a bad organization. You're mad at them. You probably want
to leave, but you also are one of those guys
who want to gut it out. It's personal. I want
to stay and battle through it. Your agent's probably saying
you need to leave and go win somewhere else. All

(06:38):
that stuff weighs on you, especially when you're just sitting
there and you're injured and you can't be at your best.
So I absolutely get can understand what Joe Burrow's going through.
I would advise him to take the rest of this
season off. You're nicked up, you're banged up, you're playing
with metal sheet in the bottom of your shoe. Have
a seat, take some time to reflect, deal with your

(06:59):
own you know, personal life. Demand just had a birthday,
yesterday's twenty nine. Reflect with your family, reflect on your
priorities where you are. Take it two months away and
come back and talk to me. If I'm the president
of the team, general manager of the owners, take some
time away. You need to get away for a little
bit and reflect. But yeah, man, a lot of people,
a lot of the average person doesn't know that side
of what these pro athletes go through. It ain't just

(07:21):
the physical. It ain't just the skills they got that.
I look at Barry Sanders, you know this, You were there.
Barry Sanders can still have played another two three years,
broken records. He just had enough. Megatron had another two
or three years. Just had enough. And they's a common
denominator between the three guys, Joe Burrow, Megatron and Barry.

(07:42):
They were in bad organizations. There are teams that weren't
winning teams call.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
The Cincinnati Bengals better. Now they're not the Lions bad.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
But what I mean is, I'll just I'll push back
on that he went to the Super Bowl, like I
just can't. I can't equate Barry Sanders being with the
Lions all that time and Kellan Johnson when that team
couldn't win any game. They were winning two and three
games a year. I get to wear and tear on
that this team not that long ago was in the
Super Bowl. They went, they went to Kansas City and

(08:12):
beat him twice, beat the Chiefs in their heyday, and.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
That what I'm saying is that was the anomaly. Them
not being good is more common, and I think all
of that just weighs on you. But again, we went
down the history of his injuries. Man, I think he
needs to step away, take a couple of months, reflect,
get healthy, and then come back and make a decision.
But again, you mentioned Andrew Luck. Andrew Luck did it

(08:36):
moved on? Now he's an a d somewhere in.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
The general call him, but but it sounds like Andrew
Luck before he retired. Let's just be honest, and that.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Everybody don't want to be Tom Brady playing in forty
five like that ain't. No, nobody ain't built for that.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
And you don't want your brain scrambled and all the
other stuff that could come with it. And Brady was
being protected, he was, he didn't they I saw who
was who put the number?

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Us saw?

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Was it a schefter had the number? Like he's played
in twelve or thirteen games left in Andrew Luck and
has like forty more sacks or something. You have the number,
rob g.

Speaker 5 (09:12):
You know what I'm saying, right, He said it during
the broadcast, Actually put it here so I could remember
to say because it was a wild Statye. Joe Burrow
has played seventy three career games. He's been sacked two
hundred and three times. For context, Andrew Luck played eighty
six games before retiring and was sacked one hundred and
seventy four times.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Okay, and we were saying he was running for his
life a lot. YEP.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
I remember saying heang if Andrew Lucker get more protection,
he would do more. So, Yeah, all that weighs on
you figure to being literally all that three hundred pound
men tackling you everything.

Speaker 5 (09:43):
And the way Joe Burrow plays, he's not the kind
of guy who's like payon man, I'm gonna fall down
in our game. No, he gonna get it goes for
every single yard. He holds it as long as possible
to get as deep down the field as he can.
So his style of play lends itself to taking shots
like that.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Troy Aikman, Yeah, Troy, and Troy Acman was trying to
get Michael Irvan and him down the field and was
taking some licks, So it wouldn't surprise me. I don't
think he's gonna retire. I definitely think he's gonna take
a little so bad I think he should retire. I
hear you once you start talking about that and question it.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
When when somebody said they're not having fun a twenty
nine year old making a gazillion dollars playing a sport,
right seriously, Like like a lot of people gotta go
to work, is sit in traffic and they don't have
enough money to pay their bills. That ain't fun. You
tell them how playing football ain't fun. That tells me
all I need to know.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
You know, he you talking about Luca is the oldest
twenty five twenty Yeah, Joe Burrow is twenty nine. Joe
Burrow out there looking thirty five thirty six. Man, Well,
he's you know, he's beating him brutal, brutalized over the
last you know, seven eight years.

Speaker 7 (11:23):
Subscribe, hit that thumbs up icon and comment away, man,
we had another thunder blowout last night. They are now
twenty five and one, Rob tying the Warriors. Obviously, the
Warriors set that record some years ago and they're on
track to do that.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Some people think they might actually beat him. I'm inclined
to actually think they may just do that, consider how
good they are and they haven't even played their best
basketball yet. They haven't even had their full unit. It's like,
this guy's okay, that guy's all right. J dob ain't
even played in weeks, Okay, he's back. Well SGA have
a night off. Like, I don't even know what they're
gonna look like when they're fully locked in. We're in December.

(12:01):
The NBA season doesn't even start till Christmas Day. We
typically say that's when the season starts, and they already
look like a shoe in.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
This is absolutely great.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
If you're a high school basketball coach, this is the
team you would sow your team. Hey, guys, before we
go out there on this court and practice that, I
want you to watch this team. They're committed, they're all
for one. They play hard nosed defense. Everybody knows their role.
They don't care who gets the start. You know, this
guy's in, this guy's out, doesn't matter. They're exactly what
you want from a team. But they're not at all

(12:34):
what you want from a league. And if you're Adam Silver,
this isn't not great.

Speaker 4 (12:40):
Rob.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
I've been covering this league since I feel like you
right now, since when was I about ten twelve years old.
I've been watching this league my whole life, and including
Michael Jordan years, I never went into a season and
at this point where you go, oh, it's a shoe in.
They're winning this thing, right, because even in the Jordan years,
you say, all right, well Charles Barkley with the so
this looks great. He's the MVP. This could be something,

(13:02):
all right, Maybe the Utah Jazz gets some revenge this year.
Can Shawn Camp and Gary Pate? You could find some
ways to maybe add another team or two. We are
all hoping that Denver makes a thing of this thing.
Otherwise it's absolutely a rap. So Adam Sie, I don't know.
You gotta the league gotta come together like a reverse
Chris Paul. Remember they said no Chris Paul can't go
join the Lakers and Kobe Bryant. They needed like a

(13:24):
reverse of that and absolutely send somebody somewhere. Yanni's gotta
come with Luca and Lebron or go to another team,
form up with with with Wimby, because this is this
is not good for business. It's great for them, it's
great for Sam Presty, is great for the Thunder, but
this is bad for basketball and the entertainment since it's

(13:44):
a shoe in. Every single basketball fan I talked to
is like, yo, does anybody even have a shot out?
They're blowing everybody out twenty thirty forty points and I've
never seen anything like this, and it's not great. You
need villains, you need rivalries, you need be you need
something that makes it compelling. The Thunders are the best
team by far, and there's nothing compelling about them, and

(14:06):
it's a compliment in that they're such a great team.
But you need some entertainment value in Adam Silver. I
don't know, like I say, he's gonna to pull something off,
whisper to somebody or y'all need you all to make
a trade, put somebody else somewhere with something, because this
ain't rob I've never seen this where it's such a
shoe and a lock in unless SGA, you know, gollnt
he want to say it, but like a bad injury
where he's out.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
For the season.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Other than that, they can lose another star and still
be okay. So this is just I've never been here where.
In December tenth, eleventh, I'm already ready to throw the
tiland on the season.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
We know who's winning.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
I disagree there, there's a long way to go. Denver
took them the seven games last year. I'm not gonna
sit here and go I don't care what the record is.
You could have a bad week in the NBA, or
have a misshot or some situation. We saw the Pacers
last year down by fourteen points, were a minute two
minutes to was it like thirteen forty to go through?

(15:05):
And I am down by fourteen on the road and
win that game and change everything. So I'm not there
that I'm not crowning them the champs in early December.
But I will say this, the OKC Thunder are the
worst basketball team for the NBA. They are worse than

(15:31):
even the Halem Globetrotters. They were a bad version of
the Halem Globe Trotters. You know, they used to win
all the time. They always beat the Generals, Washington Generals.
The difference is we knew the routine, we knew the script.
They were supposed to win. OKC does absolutely zero for

(15:52):
the NBA because there's no competition. It ain't about beefs
and all that about competition. Who's watching a game that's
forty or thirty or forty or fifty points. Nobody in
their right mind is going to watch that, So the
NBA doesn't get any juice from them winning and it's

(16:15):
exciting and oh my god, they made another three pointer
at the buzzer. These games are done at half, so
people are looking for Golden Girls reruns, so that doesn't work.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
They're a small market to begin with. There's nothing here
to like.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
It's as bad as it gets for the NBA and
everybody who thinks that winning all the time is great.
Let me give you a history lesson the.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
Celtics during their run when they won eight championships in
a row in the fifties and sixties and all that.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Guess who's attendance dipped during that run. Go look at
the sixties sixty one season, their tickets. You thought they
had won two in a row back to back, and
they were going for their third title, and en route
to eight in a row.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
People stopped going, didn't buy tickets. I saw it, I
already saw them win.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
How about the Atlanta Braves of the nineties won fourteen
straight National League East titles, Kelvin, people stopped going to
playoff games for the bread.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
I saw it already I've been there. It can happen.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Winning all the time with no competition, no press, pushback
is the worst thing you could have. Add to that
a small market, Add to that a player people are
indifferent about. No one is like, oh I can't stand
a SGA or he guys must see TV.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
It's indifferent.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
So OKC Thunder are the worst basketball team for the NBA.
They get nothing from this, no juice. I don't know
who's watching people in Oka se Okay, ain't nobody. Ain't

(18:13):
no basketball fans watching no forty nine point blowoff.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
I'm sorry they The Thunder is the perfect name because
it's like a rain cloud on the NBA. It's a
rain cloud on the NBA because again it's and I
mean it's in the most complimentary way. They played the
absolute best basketball. Every person knows their role. Don't care
if I play five minutes or twenty five tonight, don't
care who got the shot. Everybody's playing defense, taking charges,

(18:39):
moving the ball around. We got a closer in SGA,
We got a number two in JAD. Matter of fact,
I have a CJDU for weeks. We'll be okay.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
We got check.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
They play amazing brand of basketball as far as winning games.
And again I said it, if I was a high
scored or a coach in college, this is the team
I will try to model my team after.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
However, the difference.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Between when we're seeing with them and the difference when
we saw what the Warriors did it or the Bulls
number one. The Bulls had Michael Jordan. It didn't get
any bigger. But they also had Dennis Rodman, right character.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
You knew what he was. You just wild.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
You don't know the game, Zoe, and they were in
games I'm going where you're going. They had to hit
some buzzer beaters, they had to be in some whoop.
I don't know how we pulled that off. You go
to that Warriors Seane. They were in a lot of games.
They close it out, closed at the end. They also
were compelling. We'd never seen anything like Steph Curry before.
Remember this is early step Now we're used to it.

(19:33):
This is early Steph, this is early Clay. We had
a nickname for him. They were the Splash Brothers. We
had Draymond Green, fighting people, stumping people, chaos. We were
familiar with Steve Kurt. There was something new be seen
with this Thunder team. Not a single buddy of mine
or anybody that text me, yo, you watching this thunder game.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
That's why I said it did the worst nobody. This
is the worst basketball team for the NBA, and it
just it's it's their fault for being really good. And
I understand it's not compelling. It's not without the compelling part,
without uh, the competition part sports. That's what separates sports
from everything else. When we watch movies, we know who

(20:14):
the good guy is and we know who the bad
guy is, right, and the good guy always wins, right,
But we don't know how we get to that point,
so we watch it.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
But you know, yeah, but sports is totally different.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
The whole idea is that we don't know what's gonna happen.
That's what keeps bringing us back. It's the upsets. Oh
my god, I can't believe what I just saw. I
can't believe that Rojas in the home run with one
out in the night for the Dodgers. Nobody could have scripted, Dad, nobody. No,
I don't believe it. No, it's unbelieving, you know what

(20:50):
I mean.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
I mean, you brought up Tyrres Haliburton, who thought he
would be the star of summer. Hitting game winner after
game winner after game like that was unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
That's what makes sports. It's exciting. This Thunder team is
a bore, is a snooze fest. I'm not interested, and
I'm not taking away they're great. They twenty five and
one whatever their record is now, and I get it,
but I'm sorry. I'm here for the competition. I don't

(21:18):
want to see Hallam Globe Trotter's games against the Washington Generals.
I don't want to see that. That doesn't entertain me,
It doesn't interest me. It doesn't make me feel any
kind of way. That's what it feels like. It feels
like a bad.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
HALLM.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
Globe Trotter is Washington Generals thing that we're watching. Sorry,
it should count me out. And if it would be
different if Sga was Wenby.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
Let's say this was the Spurs and Winby was just
going crazy thirty three at night. And because you he's
a freak, right, he's something with unicorn. We never seen
this before, so it would be compelling. You'd be like, man,
are you seeing with this seven foot six guys doing
every night? You'd be talking about it every night, and
this is crazy. But because SGA is their best player,
and he just goes about his business in a workman

(22:08):
like fashion.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
You don't talk about it.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Nobody ever had a single one of your friends ever
sent you a SGA, a reel on DM, on Instagram
or text.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
And he just goes about his business.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
He wins, he's quiet, he's chill, and it's again, that's
what you actually like if you're a coach or if
you're you know, modeling a team after it. But you
want some juice, you want something. They don't even have
a nickname, usually got a nickname. When you're this good Rob,
I keep telling everybody that you're the Bad Boys. You know,
You're the Lake Show, You're the Showtime Lakers, You're the
something rob Z what.

Speaker 4 (22:38):
You guy guys.

Speaker 5 (22:39):
Obviously he's early in the season, but if the season
ended today, the Oklahoma City Thunder would have a net
rating of plus seventeen point two, which means they win
each game by an average of seventeen points per game.
The previous high in NBA history was a Jordan Bulls
team nineteen ninety six thirteen point four. That gap about

(23:01):
four points will be the difference between the seventy two
win Bulls and the twenty was at twenty twenty.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Milwaukee Buck twenty twenty one, Blauckey Bucks with the honest.

Speaker 8 (23:14):
So the gap between Oklahoma City and arguably the greatest
team of all time is the same gap between what
had been the greatest team of all time and a
nondescript champion from four years ago.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
Right, that's how much better they are.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
But it's but it also tells you why this isn't compelling.

Speaker 4 (23:30):
It just isn't. And I'm not.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
If you're in Oklahoma City and that's all you have going,
I understand it. You feel great. They win every night
for the rest of NBA America. No thank you, no,
no thank you. And it's not just their fault. Nobody
can see to come up with a defense or do anything.
And when when you don't have competition, that's what makes

(23:55):
sports special.

Speaker 4 (23:56):
Gotta have competition.

Speaker 2 (23:58):

Speaker 5 (24:10):
Philip rivers and looks like he's gonna start this week
just the full disclosure that he's been preparing him, not
Riley Leonard to be the starter of this Sunday against Seattle.
And you guys mentioned he's forty four years old, hasn't
played in the NBA since Louisiana, NFL since Louisiana purchase.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
So it's got a lot of folks like, hey, if
they're asking him what they're asking me, including ESPN personality
former NFL MVP Cam Newton, who talked about on his
own podcast this is the character and he is none
too happy.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
Take a listener, hatter, you know this almost like a
slap in my face.

Speaker 9 (24:42):
All the things that you're doing in media, do you
come off like you're available? Well, stay in the case
name bro saying any type of signs?

Speaker 4 (24:54):
Why are you asking me to do something that everybody
else didn't do? I ain't no lab raps.

Speaker 9 (24:59):
Come on, bro, still have you followed my snaps? He's retired.
You ain't even retired.

Speaker 4 (25:10):
I did not and will not because of an opportunity
like this. And I was always in a system. But
still like, I don't give a damn if he was
in a family. He's forty four years old, Bro, You're
are the whole Cam new Is.

Speaker 9 (25:24):
To a standard that you're not holding everybody else kill.

Speaker 4 (25:27):
Did you say that you were still available, Caim, You're retired,
so did Philip.

Speaker 8 (25:33):
But I know when it comes with me the personality, bro.

Speaker 9 (25:41):
Folks don't want to should do a situation they don't
want to do.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
They don't want a circus.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
Yeah, they want somebody who can complete better than fifty
two percent of that passes.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Okay, Evan, you let it right there, right. Here's the
thing what Cam is missing. So the part in that
video or that sound, you miss it because he goes,
have you seen my snapchat? And then he shows in
the video he's insane. Were talking about Aaron Donald earlier.
There are some people who retire or stop playing who
continue to work out that crazy. So physically, yeah, Cam,

(26:10):
you're a specimen six', six ripped up to probably still.
Run absolutely physically you are a better fit Than Philip.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
Rivers ain't no denying. That it ain't no denying.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
THAT i don't know maybe THAT i don't think there
are sixty four quarterbacks better Than Cam. Doon but here's the,
thing and here's the life. Lesson we still Got Mark
gunnell's young. Man we just met his homie and his
friend here as. Well it's a lesson for a lot
of young. PEOPLE i remember WHEN i was in, College
rob freshman Year Northwestern Michigan, college it's been a year
if there In Travilse, city you know Where travi's city, is,

(26:40):
yep and said to me one day he, said blah blah.
Blah then he, goes, well it ain't what you, know
it's who you. Know AND i remember, THINKING, whi, well,
Okay and that stuck with. Me and obviously you know.
That And cam his fault is what he's, missing and
what he knows Is Philip rivers in this. Situation we

(27:01):
know he out of, shape we know he hadn't played
in five. Years we know he is nowhere near the
specimen Of Cam. Newton but he knows. Him he's in their,
system he's good with, them probably stay connected with.

Speaker 4 (27:13):
Them and they, said, well in a, pinch we gotta
go with a. Guy we're gonna go with this. Guy
this guy we.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Know and in their, minds the last time we Saw
Philip rivers he was eleven and five twenty four and
eleven twenty four, touchdowns eleve, interceptions and that's what they.
Saw and the last time we Saw Cam newton for
the stress that he. Had it was like four, touchdowns five,
interceptions and he didn't look. Good he was completing only
about fifty percent of his. Passes so it ain't just

(27:38):
that they know, him it's that also in their, Mind
philip was successful the last time we saw.

Speaker 4 (27:42):
Him and, Lastly, Rob.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Sometimes when you make a decision to jump into something,
else it can't slow your, role it can't hinder. You Cam,
newton this is how they view him. Now he's a,
podcaster he's an. Analyst you see him on a first
take With You, boy Steven a and all the shows
that that's the space they view him. In, Now cam's,
Opinionated cam's, loud and he's. Right all That cam's personality

(28:07):
for a game that he might have to play one.
Game they don't want that. Around i'm not saying is
wrong or. Right i'm saying that's the, reality and he is.
Right they don't want all that. Around they want to
go with the. Comfy what they know Is Philip, rivers
he got to. Shake he's forty, four he's got twelve.
Kids but we know. Him bring him in and that's
What cam is dealing with at this point teams know

(28:29):
he's still probably better than a handful of quarterbacks backups
in the. League they just don't want everything else that
comes with. It and he knows it and is one
of the times he was. Right, Nah i'm gonna, Say Cam,
newton there's a. Cup there's two things for.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
Me aside from his you, KNOW mvp, year which was,
tremendous there's a lot of bad. Stuff numbers completed under
sixty percent of his passes and six of his ELEVEN nfl,
seasons only had three winning seasons as a, starter.

Speaker 4 (28:58):
Only had a.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
Passer rating over nine twice in HIS nfl, career only.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
Twice here's the other. Thing he's turned Into Dwight.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
Howard the reason That Dwight howard didn't make that list
top seventy.

Speaker 4 (29:12):
Five what happened To Dwight howard got. Goofy he got.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Goofy and that's Where Cam newton, is whether people want
to admit it or.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
Not AND i think when people look at, it they
don't think he's. Serious that's WHAT i. Mean they don't
think he's serious about.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
This this is why no, one even though he didn't,
retire No, one he hasn't been on anybody's phone, list
all the, injuries all these bad play. Quarterbacks there's nothing
but bad quarterbacks all over the. Place and he didn't
get a phone. Call why didn't he get a phone?

Speaker 4 (29:43):
Call because they don't view him a serious about. Football
there you, go.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
And the personality and all that other stuff and and
And i'm just telling you like that that can happen
to you where people look at you and, Go, okay
he's not interested in football or. Whatever he's doing some
other stuff. Here and there is a distracting distraction, factor

(30:09):
whether people want to admit it or.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
Not and it ain't Just Shadoor.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
SANDERS i wish People Tim tebow is probably the poster
child for people not wanting him.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Around actually it ain't Just it's not just you got
people Like Johnny manziel was like a lot with, that
and it's.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
A, lot and you're, like is it worth? It is
it worth? It we just don't want all of. That
and AND i think that's why he wouldn't get a.
Call and the last time we saw, him there was
a ball rolling around on the Super bowl the.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
Big the last time we saw, him a Super bowl
still rolling around Until denver picked it.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
UP i, mean h don't do. That don't be mad
at business. Decisions, No i'm just don't be mad at business.
Decisions in the Super, bowl got to go. Out John
elway run, around got his neck twisted, around turns Around
North carolina.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
Like a twirl around like a helicopter. Pablos so if
you remember he didn't even talk after The Super, bowl
do you remember? THAT i, do. Well he's been talking ever.
Since a couple of days. Later he didn't talk that.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
Night he been talking ever. Since he ain't talked that.
Night let me throw let me throw a name at
you a great. Example baker may feels crazy by the.
Way they're showing a real of him headbudding people with
no helmet on hitting the head. Button, boy this is
that's Where scatterboo got that, from And Jackson dart and
all the crazy stuff these dudes are. Doing let me
throw this at you real. Quick an example of what
we're talking. About Tim. Tebow they, said at a certain

(31:38):
point it ain't worth all, that UH i, cam he
is a. Specimen he Probably it's just not worth all.
That you want to know an example with all the
negative that came with, it all the rurah all the,
media but they were, like, nah this's gonna be worth,
it and they ultimately were. Right Michael. Vick Michael vick
came with crazy. Stuff, Oh i'll never be a part

(32:01):
of The Philadelphia. EAGLE i had season tickets for thirty.
Years i'll burn. Them i'll Burn. JERRY i can't believe this.
Organization Andy, reid that organization, Said, Uh Mike vick can
still play. Donovin mg nabs voucher for. Him that, says,
man we're gonna get him in the. System he can
be a. Backup ultimately came, back come come Back player
of The year and was AN mvp can of a
Ball we saw the Best Mike vick post prison With Andy.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
Reid that was the best version Of Michael.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Vick we all said if he was ever locked in like,
that he'd be a sure, ballot first Ballot hall Of.
Famer my point was it was worth all of that they,
felt and teams will do that if they feel it's
but he.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
Wasn't a distraction like with the.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Team you know WHAT i mean WHEN i talking about,
Him i'm saying what came every day you trying to
park your car as a, player it's picket signs it's.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
News can you remember what it was With Mike? VICK
i don't remember. That, yeah there's people to this, Day.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Manzi every day we rob, you you, Know, manzi when
we bring this, Up monty GETS i mean almost like
like red in a, face mad about.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
That i'll never forget give.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
Him there's a lot of people to this, day to
this day who still feel like that About Michael vick
and The eagle's dealt with Did they talked about it
like if you watched The Michael vick. Doc but they were, like,
man we thought we can bring him. In we already
have familiarity With, donovan was his. Guy we kind of
thought we could house him, in you, know showed him some.
Love we talked to people said he was, contried he really,
changed and next thing you, know ultimately he got his

(33:22):
chance and he shried for a couple of years with.
Them but my point is they felt it was worth,
it and that was worse than just, like oh he's
a little. Mouth the extra that was like people burning
tickets and jerseys and all that business.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Hurt BUT i think of your cam and you you
don't get a phone call from anybody and you haven't
officially announced your with stay in shape and you're in
shape and you're not even old, Yet like it says a,
lot and it tells you that how people view, you
which is they don't view you as viable anymore as a.
Quarterback AND i think that is something that that he'd

(33:56):
have to ask. Himself just the way that he presents
his now and the way he does, stuff do people
take him? Seriously AND i think, that AND i think that's.
Real i'm not so sure that they.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
Do i'm gonna throw a couple other names at you
that these guys go away for a, while you might
not hear from. Here some of them win coach high
school and they still get jobs IN a part of
it is because they know how to come in be
a part of the. Team and it's not a lot
of the, drama right and not all the videos remember
the videos Of cam fighting kids and the camp and all,
That like there's always. Stuff Teddy bridgewater can go and

(34:29):
coach a, team come, back get back on The.

Speaker 4 (34:33):
Lions and now he's with The who's he with this?
Year is it the?

Speaker 6 (34:36):
Who?

Speaker 4 (34:36):
No but but The? Falcons?

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Right but but that tells you. Sucks but that tells you.
Something that's What Teddy. Bridgewater they, Know, hey, man we
know what he. Is profession gonna come, in get to,
Work Teddy. Bridgewater Tyrod taylor can go, away get staff
in the, chest puncture, lungs And Tyrod taylor is gonna
keep a. Job fitzpatrick for like ten, years will go,
away be on the, team back of, it and then

(34:59):
just keep a. Job and so my point is there
are guys who have those, opportunities but it's, because as we,
MENTIONED i don't think everything else that comes with.

Speaker 4 (35:07):
It, cam it's not just being in.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
Shape they don't believe you actually can play the position
at a high level right, now and and you, know
maybe you believe you, can and BUT i don't think
we'll ever find out.

Speaker 4 (35:18):
Again do you ever think he'll get a shot? Again,
NO i don't, either.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Because because there's too Many there have been too many
places open right. Been they've been a ton of quarterback
where guys are heard or bank people need. Quarterbacks and
you said, it he's in. Shape they're not forty five years, old.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Specimen. Dude we just saw him at the Last Super
bowl when we were. There he was doing his.

Speaker 5 (35:39):
Podcast, there Guys Philip rivers last season In indianapolis at
age thirty, nine at least, statistically would be the second
best season Of Cam newton's. Career, wow in terms of passer,
rating in terms of, touchdowns in terms of like all,
that outside Of Cam NEWTON'S mvp, season which was.

Speaker 4 (35:57):
Awesome that wasn't, awesome ye, Df.

Speaker 5 (36:00):
Cam newton is much better than what the actual statistics will.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
Ship rob don't do. Anymore he can't run. Anymore and
he was such a big.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
Guy like he was so, big you, know compared to
you say that when he walks around between between his.

Speaker 4 (36:14):
Stature and that. HAT i, MEAN i thought the Mad
hatter was at.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
The Super, Bowl Willie wonka Mad, hatter The monopoly.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
Dude he was anybody with a top Had.

Speaker 5 (36:25):
But you, Know cam is one of the few people
we saw At Radio road that actually looks down At Rob.

Speaker 4 (36:29):
Parker that's how Big camp. Is And i'm a real six,
Four i'm not, like oh you are with the hat.
On he six,' nine, well exactly he had a little but,
like people people want to hear what he, has said
it was a.

Speaker 5 (36:41):
Lot huge like we saw him next To Like, travis
kelce we saw, him, like well maybe not, this year
but we saw him next to other big players and,
you're like he's not. A quarterback he's, oh, yeah no he's.
A quarterback
