s R. You're listening to the Best of the Odd
Couple with Chris Brush and Rod Harker. Huge Game La
Dodgers Atlanta Braves two one Braves Dodgers with a what
was it? Fifteen to three win yesterday? Save? Oh my gosh,

(00:43):
did they? And now you got man, It's a delicious scenario.
Clayton Kershaw on the mound and alex Ryde Reguez. Do
we have the sound alex Rye Reguez? This is huge?
Do we have this sound? Guys? All right here it is.
I'm gonna go ahead and the Lima say, this will
be the biggest start of Clay Kershaw's career. And I'm

(01:06):
gonna tell you why. He's getting a little bit older.
Like the Yankees, like the Red Sox. He has an
opportunity every year in October to bury his demons of October.
I think tomorrow. The winner of tomorrow's game will advance
to the World Series. You can either be three one
or you can be two two. WHOA, Yes, So I

(01:26):
think tomorrow's game it's huge, Rob, I want you to
go first. But the only thing I want to say
is the only thing I disagree with a ride On
is I don't think the winner this game necessarily is
winning the series. Yeah, I mean, I mean, yeah, if
Atlanta wins and they're three one, yeah, okay they are.

(01:47):
I don't think the Dodgers are a rap right that
it's automatic because you don't know who's who also beat up.
But he's spot on on this for Clayton Kershaw. This
is career making Chris. There's no if, hands or butts,
and I don't I don't mean if he goes out
any pitches decent and and the bullpen gives it up.

(02:07):
I'm talking about, does he go out and give you
seven innings or eight? It pitches a gem, you're winning
the game, you know what I mean? Where it was
about the pitching and it was two to one or
two nothing, and he came out and gave you a
shot in the arm, or he gets bombed in the
first inning and gives up five runs and the Dodgers
never recover. That's what's at stake. And here's the other part.

(02:31):
He's now so far gone on the fact that he's
been awful in the postseason era almost you know, a
full run and a half four and a half, right,
it's almost two runs? What what? What's his regular sea
is he ra in the regular season is two point
four three two story great in regular season, in the

(02:53):
in the playoffs, it's four point two three And he
looked he's throwing one hundred and seventy two playoff in
he rop So it's not a small sample. No, no, no, no,
It's not like he got bombed a couple times out
and that was it. So so Chris. If if he
were to get bombed, then they lose and the heavily
favorite Dodgers down three to one and eventually get knocked
out by the upstar Paves young team or whatever. I

(03:17):
don't think he'll be able to live this down. I
really don't. He'll be cemented in like a playoff failure.
And unless I don't, unless something miraculously happens, you know,
I just can't see it. He's getting older, the team
that's won already eight nlst how many times? How many
times are you gonna win the division? The padress right right?

(03:41):
And and remember, I mean it was a few years
ago now, but in twenty seventeen in that World Series,
you know he gave up two leads of three or
more runs. And I know we know the Astros were cheating.
But well, yeah, if people just remember him getting shelled.
And so I want to throw the us out to you,
Rob you you started off saying, I don't mean you know,

(04:04):
he pitches okay and then gives up to the bullpen.
What if he just has a solid start, Say he
goes five innings and gives up two runs, and it's
it's two all or three two even let's say it's
even three two Dodgers, he exited and exits in five
or six having given up two runs. You know, solid

(04:25):
not grade, He's not mowing them down. What does that?
Does that do anything for him that he put the
bullpen in position to carry take it home? Or does
it have to be he has to be pretty much
lights out? I think they want a guy who was
an ace an all time grade to give us a

(04:48):
good one. Do you know, Chris I get it. You know,
he might pitch six innings and it's four to three
when he leaves the game or whatever. I mean, a
lot of people would be happy with that. No, no
one's gonna kill him. But I think what they're looking
for is for him to just neutralize the braves, you
know where where the game. They're not That's kind of

(05:10):
what they're looking at. They're looking at me. They love
the masterpiece, but exactly that, That's what I think. That's
what people and anything if it's if it's rocky, you know,
and he gets hit around the first three or four
in his Chris Dodger fans will be pissed. They just
will be right. Yeah, And I really like Clayton. I mean,
I love what he stands for. He's a great and

(05:33):
he's he's a great picture. Right, But man, I mean
he it is it's undeniable. I mean even he's admitted it, right,
I mean he kind of grudgingly obviously, but he said
it that he admits his struggles in the playoffs and
so tomorrow. The good thing, though, is he does have

(05:53):
this chance at redemption. We saw it with David Price,
but a year ago and or two years ago, whatever
it was. And you know, we'll see if if Kershaw
can do the same thing. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob
Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific on

(06:15):
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Reports are saying
that Anthony Davis is going to opt out of his
deal with the Lakers and then resign with them. So
anyone that thought he was leaving the Lakers was flat
out crazy. I mean, he moved heaven and earth to

(06:38):
leave New Orleans and go to the Lakers. Right at
that time, Rob, he was putting his reputation on the line, right,
I mean, he was a guy that you know, not
many everybody knew it was great, but you know, people
thought he was just a good guy. Not a lot
of attention paid to him. And by demanding the trade

(06:59):
and basically sitting out half the season or whatever it was, Uh,
he took some shots, and certainly in New Orleans they
were upset with him, and he forced his way to
LA and then goals plays with Lebron wins the championship.
He's getting more attention, more love than he ever got

(07:24):
in New Orleans. So obviously he was going to resign
with the Lakers, and the question is only how he'll
do it. Will he take like a full, you know,
long term deal five years, two hundred two million, or
will he you know, take a two year with an
odd player option after one or a one year with

(07:45):
a player option after after one year. So we'll see.
As you say, in Tampa Bay ties at three, three
home run and an eighth inning, So we got we
got a game they could wrap it up, you know
what I mean, that was huge. Yeah, so we'll see
what We'll see how that plays out. Um um, so yeah,

(08:06):
your your thoughts. I mean, let me put it this way. Yeah,
this meaning for the Laker, Like, what do you think
this means going forward? I think, and I know you
are saying, I think I agree that this was Lebron's best, last,
best chance, your best last chance to win US YEP Finals. Rob.

(08:27):
I think the windows still open. I think they have
at least I'm not guaranteeing they're gonna win another one,
but I'm saying they got one more great run in
them that could end in the championship, and maybe they
got two more. I'm just not sure. I think that
other players or having been Kevin Durant was missing this year.
I think that's huge that that's what was his that mistake.

(08:49):
It'll be back, Golden State will be back. He Clippers
with Kevin Durant until Durant went to Golden State. But
I'm just saying, but but he's up, he's a fall.
The Clippers will be better the second year as far
as like continuity, Uh, they'll have something to prove because
of the way they went. Denver's there, Uh, Dallas is better.

(09:13):
They have a little more confidence, do you know what
I mean? Like, I don't think it's the case walk
and I also not sure again eventually Lebron uh will
slow down. I mean, it hadn't happened. You keep waiting
for it. You just don't know. So, I mean, sure
they're gonna be in the mix, but I'm not I'm
not saying that I could just look at it and go, oh, yeah,

(09:34):
they're gonna be in the finals next year. Not with
it is a different players. I think I think they
enter is the favorite. That's just automatic. But yeah, but
it's not gonna be easy. In fact, it would be
as impressive as this was at least to some people.
To me, others poo poo the bubble, but I thought
it was impressive. Next year you mentioned it, Dallas is

(09:57):
gonna be better, Denver, Denver Whippers, Golden State, UM East.
But does New Orleans, I mean, does New Orleans finally
take a step with those jobs. I'm not saying christ Phoenix,
but they'll be better, That's what I'm saying. Like like there,
I'm looking at the team's out west. It's a ton

(10:19):
of good teams. That'd be a heck of a of
a title if they win it next Yes, there's been
a lot of talk about Anthony Davis being Lebron's best teammate. UM.
Who was the first person to say it, uh Kendrick
Perkins said it, and then Dwayne Wade agreed with Perk

(10:41):
on Twitter. Now came back and said Wade was just
being humble. But here's how I would say it. If
you just want to say best best teammate that Lebron's
had right now October fifteen, two thousand and twenty, you'd
have to say Dwayne Wade as far as he's ranked

(11:06):
higher than Anthony Davis historically, right, rightfully, so he won
a championship before Lebron even came to Miami, and Anthony
Davis never did anything close to that now he had
with him, don't forget, I know. But but he was
a big part of that. I mean when they won,
he shot three remember I mean Chris, I mean that

(11:28):
might have been that was the all timer. Like when
they rallied from a two old deficit, right, it was
two old, it was darn near three. I mean there's
six minutes away from being down three old exactly. So
there's a little bit. And like you said, even with Shaq,
he was the MVP A right, let's not get it twisted.
Um so yeah, right now. But I do think Rob

(11:49):
that if if if Lebron and a D went another title,
and if a D can somehow, you know, maybe win
another time, I mean, that's asking a lot for him
to get three titles. I think he could go. He
would go. He could go down bigger than Wade. We'll see.
But but but as far as fit, like who's the

(12:10):
teammate that fits best with Lebron, I do think it's
Anthony Davis because Wade I never thought. Now, Wade and
Lebron were a good fit. Obviously defensively, they were tenacious
together because they both could get out on that wing
and they could trap, and they could swarm and hit
the passing lanes, and they were a terror defensively and

(12:34):
in transition in the half court. I don't think they
were a great fit because both of them they played similar.
You know, both of them were ball dominant. When Lebron
was in Cleveland and Wade was in Miami. Wade played
a lot like Lebron. He had the ball in his hands,
he was creating most of the offense. He was a
good pass would get your six seven assist a night,

(12:56):
and then of course score twenty seven, twenty eight points.
And so I thought what happened and was when Lebron
got to Miami after the first year, and they both
were trying to play their game, and it kind of
was just taking your turn. Okay, Wade, you're going one
on one. I'm gonna stand over here and watch Lebron.
You're going one on one. I'm gonna stand over one.

(13:18):
When you put that kind of talent together, you know,
people are trying to figure it out. And ain't that
easy because I mean with some but but see that's
why I don't think it was a fit because I
think what happened was the second year when they decided
and Wade was the first to voice it, Look, Lebron
is your team. You gotta take over, we gotta play
through you. I think Wade gave up some of his game,

(13:40):
Like I think Wade was about eighty percent of himself,
like you know, because he backed off and said, all right,
Lebron's got the ball all the time and I'm just
gonna play off of him, and that took away from him.
But they won two rings. So I think Lebron and
Anthony Davis rob it was a pretty seamless transition. And

(14:00):
because Ad doesn't need you know, dominate the ball, doesn't
dribble it a line. You need somebody to get the right.
So that's where it's a perfect, a really good fit.
So that's why I think he's the best fit with Lebron. Yeah,
I still would take Dwayne Wade. I hear what you're
saying if Lebron. So if you could, if you could
say they went to four straight championship. I remember they

(14:21):
had Bosh too. Yeah, but Bosh, look at it. You
want to say dropping off their game. Bosh was the
one who too dropped off the most and became a
guy standing out at the perimeter, not really involved like
he was before he got there. So yea, and I
think that was their far. I don't think Bosh lost
his game. No, I don't say that's the way they

(14:41):
used him, right, I'm just saying, am I right though?
I mean he was just he became a glorified role
player right by the time Rob and people would be
surprised by this. They don't realize this. His last two
years in Miami, he averaged sixteen points and six rebounds.
That's unbelie Think about that. Think about that. That's crazy,

(15:04):
that's unbelievable. But that's because he didn't fit. But I
just it's hard for me to look at Dwyane Wade
considering what he was able to do and then what
he did with Lebron. It wasn't like they struggled to
get to the finals. At one point when they went
thirty something how many games in seven I think almost
I was gonna say almost thirty. It was incredible. That's

(15:26):
hard to do in the NBA. I don't care, I
don't care who you're playing, Chris, you know, to be
able to run off a string like that you're right,
You're right. Wade just kind of broke down, you know,
even that last year they were together, he really wasn't
fully himself. That's why Lebron broke camp. He's like, oh,
this dude's busted. All right, where's the next tire? Hey,

(15:49):
I'm glad. I know the city of Cleveland's glad he
went back delivered that. That's still I still think Rob
some people, I think almost it's crazy that some people
were saying this championship is his best. I don't think
it's even close. It's gotta be the Cleveland Ring one.

(16:10):
You went back to the place that's just right and
get down three one. There was Sam come on that
that this is you know, because it's fresh. It happened Sunday,
do you know what I mean? It's prisoner of the moment.
There's no way nobody had ever come back from three
one of the NBA. How in the world could that
not be the best? Right? That has to be the best? Absolutely, absolutely.

on the Leveyan Bell going to Kansas City. I think
that makes sense. I mean, see obviously late that's what

(16:54):
I was saying. Issues, yea, issues with the Steelers. I
can't blame me for, you know, the issues with the Jets.
But my thing is this Rob. I mean, if he
has not been humbled yet, you know what I mean,
Like if he goes into Kansas City and got an
attitude like let's say that he's not getting this many

(17:18):
touches as Edwards Laire and he's upset about like I mean,
obviously they can just cut him like that. They only
paid him what three hundred and forty thousand dollars or something,
so that you can get rid of him. But I
can't imagine he would go in there and be anything
but a good soldier. No, you would assume so, because

(17:38):
it's a new lease on life and you don't want
to botch that up. And and even if you don't
stay there, Chris, for the next place, they want to
make sure your head is right after and then and
the other part is people are gonna give him the
benefit of the doubt. You know why, because Adam Gates.
Adam Gates, no Adam Gates has such a terrible track record,

(18:01):
like with with with guys not performing for him for
whatever reason, Chris and then going on and then playing
like like so they'll say this guy was under gains.
You know, they didn't utilize him the right way. He
didn't want the guy, you know what I mean. They
weren't calling the place the right place for him, and
you could justify it, I'm telling you. And that's why

(18:23):
you don't want to go anywhere and cause anything. But
it was interesting too that Greg thought Buffalo might have
been a better choice for him as well. Yeah, yeah,
they're not not. Either one is good, don't get me wrong,
but that's not not it would have it would have
been more of an opportunity to shine. But he'll be
I mean, I think both probably make the playoffs. Obviously
Kansas City does well, but he'll be on the bigger

(18:46):
stage being able to you know what I mean, He'll
he'll get his opportunity to really shine bright um and
I think he'll play well, right. I mean, I'm not
saying I don't expect them to be what he used
to be, but I don't think he has to be
there in Kansas City because again. When he gets the ball,
there's gonna be running lanes, there's gonna be holes, and

(19:07):
when he catches it, you know, out of the backfield,
there's gonna be open space because they got so many
other weapons that people worry about, so I expect them
to play well. He's probably excited as all get out, right,
so hopefully it works out for him, and it just
helps my chiefs, who I picked a winning the super Bowl,
so I'm happy about it.
