between Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns. Anyone you speak
to as reputable as all said, if he's not traded,
that would be the shock of the summer.

Well, flash forward to Tuesday morning, ESPM.

Shan Sharania went on the Pat McAfee Show, and he
said that Kevin Durant and the San Antonio Spurs had
mutual interest ahead of this past trade deadline. Nothing obviously materialized,
but expected two sides to reconvene this offseason. Guys, the
reason why that's interesting is number one, because you know,
anytime you have Katie on the move, it's a big deal.

But number two, something we talked about a couple of
weeks ago. As soon as the Spurs got the number
two pick in the upcoming NBA draft. Everybody and their
mother started to link San Antonio that number two pick
and Yannis because we all know that his future in
Milwaukee is also up in the air. So here's the question, guys,

if you are the San Antonio Spurs and you can
go after either one of these big fish KD or Yannis,
which one are you going after?

And why?

I'm gonna go after KD because I like a bargain.
So it would be like shopping at Ross. I'm gonna
get it forty percent off. He's well traveled, a little weathered,
you know what I mean. Maybe there's a little stain
on it. Maybe it's a little older, outdated. It's not
the freshest stuff, but it's worth it. I'm not shopping

at socks. Giannis is a purchase. He's still good, great,
he's still young, He's got years to go. K D
is at the end, and it's not gonna cost you
all your players. That's the problem. If you go get
Yanni's and you gotta give up. Right, you just built

able to take your nucleus what you have add a

If you have to gut your team to get Yannis,

One of the things the Spurs have done well is
accumulate some young talent and also accumulate picks. Let's go
with the latter. Dang, they got a lot of picks.
Thirty six future draft picks over the next seven years.
They have the most selections in the league, even more
than okayc So when you have all of those picks,
and you also have obviously a Rookie of the Year

and Stephen Castle Stefan Castle. So now you have some talent,
you got some picks, and I'm going to get Goddess.
And the thing I think we forget about gian Is
is he seems older than he really is, Like because
you've heard of him for so long, Giannis is only thirty.
So if I get five more years of Yanna's paired
up with women Yama. First of all, let's talk about

the amount of footage and that we can we can cover.
You got a dude that's seven foot a million and
a dude that has a wingspan of about eight foot
with Gianni's, so defensively, we're going to be incredible. You
got two guys that can defend, that can block shots,

the issues with Gianni's. Darreon Fox is a perfect guy
close game, make make shots, make free throws, and obviously
he's not the greatest defender, so I can cover that

whatever you want to call these places. And I'm going
to get Yanni's and I'm about to have Giannis and
whom beating Darren darreon Fox for the next five six

off season rumor that we've had now for months that
Aaron Rodgers, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but at
some point will become the next quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steels.
Let's just say scary. Terry's not too happy about it.

multiple times, and mine is simply it still remains the same.
Aaron Rodgers has the right to do what Aaron Rodgers
wants to do it right now. It's wait figure out

that is Hall of Famer, great couple of Super Bowl titles,
but towards the end falls off, and he wasn't that
for a handful of seasons. And my thing is Aaron Rodgers.

It's not that he's trash, is not that he's bad.
I just don't think he's what you need. I don't
think he's that now we're gonna win because of him.
To me, I would like it at the ceiling as Russell,
Wiel and Wilson. I think that would be the max.
But I don't think that's what you're gonna get. And
I don't think they will be a playoff team. Now
my thing is why are they going to find themselves
in a position where they're waiting on Aaron Rodgers, who

we're getting reports. Maybe they look at Kirk Cousins, Kirk

a job from him coming off the Achilles injury over

the Steelers in the position. Maybe I'd given them too
much credit. Maybe I thought they were one of the
premier franchises in the NFL, and I had higher hopes
and expectations from them than maybe they did themselves. Maybe

He's exciting. I don't know. I don't know what people
would think he would hurt. I mean it's exciting for me.

I came up short for Mike. Like I said, we
tried last year, we couldn't get it. We try again
this year. I'm gonna try again next year. But hurting
is a terrible word to use. I'm good. Nobody's gonna

Again for mikeel Well, that's assuming Mike Conley will be there.
I mean he in basketball terms, Mike Conley is sixty six.
And also they may want to make some moves at
some point. But I will say this, I actually do
believe and his work ethic and going back in the

I don't necessarily question that he sees from He's proven

to be a hard worker. We all love the fact
that he wants to play all Lady two games. He's
been very vocal about that. He's vocal about challenging. So
I don't question that part from ant Man. I don't
question that he feels hurt. Isn't the word I think

multiple times. The issue where I'm concerned is is ant

Man gonna be the new version of Kevin Garnett? Is
at Man gonna be the ticket Where we never questioned
his loyalty, We never questioned how hard he worked, We
never questioned his desire to win, never question him. On
both ends of the ball, Kevin Garnett was a star
wars on both ends all right, offensively, defensively, a team guy,
(22:20):
probably to fault. He was so team friendly, and yet
he was never able to get it to done. And
I'll never forget John Thompson was interviewing him and he
was like well, what's going on? I see something to
look in your face and he just starts crying. He's like,
I'm losing. I'm losing, and I'll never forget that. Kevin
Garnett wanted to win so bad he just start crying,
I'm losing. And I just think the Minnesota Timberwolves, I

don't think they have exactly what it will take to
get to that next level. And my concern is, are
we looking at a guy that we all love. We
love his game, we love his competitiveness, we love his edge,
we love that he just plays on both sides of
the ball. But will this team, this franchise get him
to the next And I don't think they will. And
I think ant Man will win a championship. But it
(23:05):
might be with the Knicks, it might be with you know,
a Laker in seven eight years. It might be with
the Warriors, it might be with some of these the Spurs,
but I don't.

Think ant Man.

It could be with the Miami Heat. But I don't
think ant Man is going to win in Minnesota. And
I think he's gonna have a Kevin Garnett like where
we're all like, man, he's playing hard.

We want him to win.

We'd like him, but he might have to go elsewhere
to do it. This franchise hasn't proven to do nothing
over the years. They've had some good teams over the
last twenty plus years. They got rid of some of
the guys you think they wouldn't get rid of. They
got rid of Karl Anthony Towns. They brought in Julius Randall.
That doesn't really work. They didn't stick with Towns and
continue to ride him and at Edwards and see what
they can do. After going to the Western Conference finals,
(23:46):
they get rid of Jimmy Butler, who you know has
been proven to be good in the postseason. And again
looking at the way they I hate to say it
wasted Kevin Garnett. And some of it is the fact
that they're in the Western Conference with a bunch of
other talented teams. There's okay, Steve, continue to just stand
in their way for the next five year. Did the
Nuggets make a move and get in their way for
the next few handful of years. Do the Warriors bounce

back and make a move. Do the Lakers do something now?
They got Luca Lebron and something else. So I just
concerned that he will want to do it. He'll be
loyal to the Timberwolves, but ultimately he'll have to go
win somewhere else.

Totally disagree. I think that the comparison is not legit.
And here's why.

Twenty three years old and he's been to the Western

I don't believe her in that. And uh, when I
think about Kevin Garnett and where they were, I just
think it's a different time and era, and I agree

with you. It's a tough Western Conference and the idea
that this guy has gotten there already and they need
to make one other move or some other situation the
same way, and we keep seeing different teams go every year.
It's not inconceivable the way Denver went to her A championship,

and now we're seeing Okac. I just don't think it's
that far away, or you're making it like, oh my god,
well that's two years in the row. They didn't get there,
so it's all over and it's exact opposite to me.

It saying that there's a great chance if you make
the right tweaks. And then I heard what he said,
and that's the greatest thing you could hear. No one's
gonna work harder than me and the AUS. That's all

twenty eight. Kevin Durant, Kevin Garnett. Garnett he left because

he had played there for like what was it, rob
g nine or ten years? Then he stole when he
was in high school. He played there ten years and
they finally got there. Right, this guy's had immediate success
at twenty two, twenty three, he's been to the Western
Conference finals. He has to feel like I'm knocking on
the door. All we need to do is make another

move of another situation. So I don't think that he's
Kevin Garnett at all. I think that he is going
to with new ownership and with his desire that he's
that close. And looking at the NBA, it's not your
father's NBA where you got teams. This is Lebron every
year it Steph Curry and them. I'm not looking at

the Worriors long term. I'm not looking at the Lakers
long term. I'm looking at the younger players that were
starting to see and no situations. So I think that
he has a chance, and there's no reason for Minnesota
to panic and go like, oh, we can't get it
done here.

Oh my god. They just took over the team two
months ago.

I'm thinking full they were minority owners, but I mean
now that they're the owners, I guarantee you, guarantee you
that a Rod is not in this to just be
in it. That he wants to win a championship and
to be that close two years in a row. And
I ain't close. I mean obviously four games to one,
but I mean in it. You got to be in

the Western Conference finals to have a chance, you know
what I mean. So I'm expecting that to happen.

My issue though, is I go back to great example
of kar Anthony Towns. They had a chance in the
Western Conference finals, and they tried to dump taxes right there.
They don't want to pay it, and that is a
real thing in all sports.

But you also think that maybe they didn't think that
he was the guy that they want to soak the
money into.

And a lot of people, even Nick fans, are like,
is he really that guy? As you saying that he's
better than Julius Randall.

Well, but they're also gonna be knocked out. So he
went to New York on the team. So I'm just
saying yes on paper, but does that mean you're gonna
win or win with Anthony we call Anthony Townsend. My
big thing is the type of money that he's gonna
be paid compared to Julius Randall. That might not be
the money I want to give to anybody. And I'm
going back to a couple of things I just took over.

Yeah, the team, I'm not saying they this is there,
this is their run, but I'm talking about just looking
at the history of that franchise. And again, I don't
question ant Man's desire, just like I did with Kevin
Garnett just like I did in his work ethic. It's
and he's playing on both ends of the ball. Who
can they get Can they get free agents to come
to Minnesota, and I don't know, they don't often get
big time free agents.

And again last point, again, the Western Conference is crazy
right now. You got a bunch of young Houston's coming,
Denver's gonna still be there, Okay, see might have it
a lot for four or five years.

But the difference is you're saying Kevin Garnett ten years
it was.

He was twenty.

the Western Conference he had never been. That's totally different.
That's a guy who's who's uh has loyalty team, who
doesn't want to run away from a situation. Anybody could
have said, why would you stay there ten years? You
should have left after five or six years. Ant Man
is a young player, twenty three, he's been there twice.

It's not to say it's apples and oranges.

That's what I'm trying to about where he is and
what I'm saying is too. This could be a Dann

But this is not even the finals, Rob Da have

wait till he was twenty eight years old. He came
out of high he played ten years, eighteen to twenty
eight just to get to the Western Conference finals. Is
not the same as a guy who's twenty two and

it's gonna take me ten years.

mutual interest ahead of this past trade deadline. Nothing obviously materialized,
but expected two sides to reconvene this offseason. Guys, the
reason why that's interesting is number one, because you know,
anytime you have Katie on the move, it's a big deal.

But number two, something we talked about a couple of
weeks ago. As soon as the Spurs got the number
two pick in the upcoming NBA draft. Everybody and their
mother started to link San Antonio that number two pick
and Yannis because we all know that his future in
Milwaukee is also up in the air. So here's the question, guys,

if you are the San Antonio Spurs and you can
go after either one of these big fish KD or Yannis,
which one are you going after?

And why?

I'm gonna go after KD because I like a bargain.
So it would be like shopping at Ross. I'm gonna
get it forty percent off. He's well traveled, a little weathered,
you know what I mean. Maybe there's a little stain

the freshest stuff, but it's worth it. I'm not shopping

at socks. Giannis is a purchase. He's still good, great,

If you have to gut your team to get Yannis,

and you also have obviously a Rookie of the Year

and Stephen Castle Stefan Castle. So now you have some talent,
you got some picks, and I'm going to get Goddess.
And the thing I think we forget about gian Is
is he seems older than he really is, Like because
you've heard of him for so long, Giannis is only thirty.
So if I get five more years of Yanna's paired
up with women Yama. First of all, let's talk about

the amount of footage and that we can we can cover.
You got a dude that's seven foot a million and
a dude that has a wingspan of about eight foot
with Gianni's, so defensively, we're going to be incredible. You
got two guys that can defend, that can block shots,

for a handful of seasons. And my thing is Aaron Rodgers.

To me, I would like it at the ceiling as Russell,

my thing is why are they going to find themselves
in a position where they're waiting on Aaron Rodgers, who

we're getting reports. Maybe they look at Kirk Cousins, Kirk

understand why those are their options a guy and Kirk Cousins,

a job from him coming off the Achilles injury over
you know, a year ago, So say all, you can't

push off that that foot yet. So I'm just finding
the Steelers in the position. Maybe I'd given them too
much credit. Maybe I thought they were one of the
premier franchises in the NFL, and I had higher hopes
and expectations from them than maybe they did themselves. Maybe
for them, they just want to say, lookie.

Because I looked at them as a team that winning

glow juice. Sometimes Chris would be uneven with putting it on.
One side would be really dark, the other side would
be a little light.

hours later on TV. That's right.

And I think some of the zabira dripped down into
his eggs.

If I thought so, at least give me. I thought
that was twelve. I would die.

Western Conference Finals.

He's exciting. I don't know. I don't know what people
would think he would hurt. I mean it's exciting for me.
I'm twenty three. I get to do it a whole
bunch of times. I'm hurt more so for myself for Mike.
I came up short for Mike. Like I said, we
tried last year, we couldn't get it. We try again
this year. I'm gonna try again next year. But hurting
is a terrible word to use. I'm good. Nobody's gonna

work harder than me this summer. I'll tell you that much.
So yeah, I'll try. I'll try to make it happen.

Again for mikeel Well, that's assuming Mike Conley will be there.
I mean he in basketball terms, Mike Conley is sixty six.
And also they may want to make some moves at
some point. But I will say this, I actually do
believe and his work ethic and going back in the
lab and finding a new thing finding the next year.
I don't necessarily question that he sees from He's proven
(21:37):
to be a hard worker. We all love the fact
that he wants to play all Lady two games. He's
been very vocal about that. He's vocal about challenging. So
I don't question that part from ant Man. I don't
question that he feels hurt. Isn't the word I think
for him. It's motivational. All right, we're gonna come back.
We on your head, and he believes he'll be back
multiple times. The issue where I'm concerned is is ant
(22:00):
Man gonna be the new version of Kevin Garnett? Is
at Man gonna be the ticket Where we never questioned
his loyalty, We never questioned how hard he worked, We
never questioned his desire to win, never question him. On
both ends of the ball, Kevin Garnett was a star
wars on both ends all right, offensively, defensively, a team guy,

probably to fault. He was so team friendly, and yet
he was never able to get it to done. And
I'll never forget John Thompson was interviewing him and he
was like well, what's going on? I see something to
look in your face and he just starts crying. He's like,
I'm losing. I'm losing, and I'll never forget that. Kevin
Garnett wanted to win so bad he just start crying,
I'm losing. And I just think the Minnesota Timberwolves, I
(22:43):
don't think they have exactly what it will take to
get to that next level. And my concern is, are
we looking at a guy that we all love. We
love his game, we love his competitiveness, we love his edge,
we love that he just plays on both sides of
the ball. But will this team, this franchise get him
to the next And I don't think they will. And
I think ant Man will win a championship. But it
(23:05):
might be with the Knicks, it might be with you know,
a Laker in seven eight years. It might be with
the Warriors, it might be with some of these the Spurs,
but I don't.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
Think ant Man.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
It could be with the Miami Heat. But I don't
think ant Man is going to win in Minnesota. And
I think he's gonna have a Kevin Garnett like where
we're all like, man, he's playing hard.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
We want him to win.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
We'd like him, but he might have to go elsewhere
to do it. This franchise hasn't proven to do nothing
over the years. They've had some good teams over the
last twenty plus years. They got rid of some of
the guys you think they wouldn't get rid of. They
got rid of Karl Anthony Towns. They brought in Julius Randall.
That doesn't really work. They didn't stick with Towns and
continue to ride him and at Edwards and see what
they can do. After going to the Western Conference finals,
(23:46):
they get rid of Jimmy Butler, who you know has
been proven to be good in the postseason. And again
looking at the way they I hate to say it
wasted Kevin Garnett. And some of it is the fact
that they're in the Western Conference with a bunch of
other talented teams. There's okay, Steve, continue to just stand
in their way for the next five year. Did the
Nuggets make a move and get in their way for
the next few handful of years. Do the Warriors bounce
(24:07):
back and make a move. Do the Lakers do something now?
They got Luca Lebron and something else. So I just
concerned that he will want to do it. He'll be
loyal to the Timberwolves, but ultimately he'll have to go
win somewhere else.
Speaker 5 (24:19):
Totally disagree. I think that the comparison is not legit.
And here's why.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
One guy is.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
Twenty three years old and he's been to the Western
Conference finals twice two years in a row.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
And guy got you. He didn't make it out of it.
He didn't get to the title.

Okay, Hey, Kevin Garnett was twenty eight, who started his
career when he was twenty Right, so here are but
like eight or nine years.

This guy's been there twice already.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
Number two, they have new ownership that just took over
like three months ago, two months ago with.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
A Rod and his group.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
This ain't the old Minnesota Timberwolves ownership. That guy might
not have been in in winning A Rod and his group.
I don't believe her in that. And uh, when I
think about Kevin Garnett and where they were, I just
think it's a different time and era, and I agree

with you. It's a tough Western Conference and the idea
that this guy has gotten there already and they need
to make one other move or some other situation the
same way, and we keep seeing different teams go every year.
It's not inconceivable the way Denver went to her A championship,
(25:36):
and now we're seeing Okac. I just don't think it's
that far away, or you're making it like, oh my god,
well that's two years in the row. They didn't get there,
so it's all over and it's exact opposite to me.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
I'm looking at.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
It saying that there's a great chance if you make
the right tweaks. And then I heard what he said,
and that's the greatest thing you could hear. No one's
gonna work harder than me and the AUS. That's all
you can ask for the kid. He's twenty three, not
twenty eight. Kevin Durant, Kevin Garnett. Garnett he left because
(26:10):
he had played there for like what was it, rob
g nine or ten years? Then he stole when he
was in high school. He played there ten years and
they finally got there. Right, this guy's had immediate success
at twenty two, twenty three, he's been to the Western
Conference finals. He has to feel like I'm knocking on
the door. All we need to do is make another
(26:32):
move of another situation. So I don't think that he's
Kevin Garnett at all. I think that he is going
to with new ownership and with his desire that he's
that close. And looking at the NBA, it's not your
father's NBA where you got teams. This is Lebron every
year it Steph Curry and them. I'm not looking at
(26:53):
the Worriors long term. I'm not looking at the Lakers
long term. I'm looking at the younger players that were
starting to see and no situations. So I think that
he has a chance, and there's no reason for Minnesota
to panic and go like, oh, we can't get it
done here.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
Oh my god. They just took over the team two
months ago.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
I'm thinking full they were minority owners, but I mean
now that they're the owners, I guarantee you, guarantee you
that a Rod is not in this to just be
in it. That he wants to win a championship and
to be that close two years in a row. And
I ain't close. I mean obviously four games to one,
but I mean in it. You got to be in
(27:32):
the Western Conference finals to have a chance, you know
what I mean. So I'm expecting that to happen.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
My issue though, is I go back to great example
of kar Anthony Towns. They had a chance in the
Western Conference finals, and they tried to dump taxes right there.
They don't want to pay it, and that is a
real thing in all sports.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
But you also think that maybe they didn't think that
he was the guy that they want to soak the
money into.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
And a lot of people, even Nick fans, are like,
is he really that guy? As you saying that he's
better than Julius Randall.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
Well, but they're also gonna be knocked out. So he
went to New York on the team. So I'm just
saying yes on paper, but does that mean you're gonna
win or win with Anthony we call Anthony Townsend. My
big thing is the type of money that he's gonna
be paid compared to Julius Randall. That might not be
the money I want to give to anybody. And I'm
going back to a couple of things I just took over.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yeah, the team, I'm not saying they this is there,
this is their run, but I'm talking about just looking
at the history of that franchise. And again, I don't
question ant Man's desire, just like I did with Kevin
Garnett just like I did in his work ethic. It's
and he's playing on both ends of the ball. Who
can they get Can they get free agents to come
to Minnesota, and I don't know, they don't often get
big time free agents.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Can they get the right guys?
Speaker 1 (28:46):
And again last point, again, the Western Conference is crazy
right now. You got a bunch of young Houston's coming,
Denver's gonna still be there, Okay, see might have it
a lot for four or five years.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
So yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
But the difference is you're saying Kevin Garnett ten years
it was.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
He was twenty.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
I can't go to the future. I can't tell you.
I can't speak for.

Nobody was twenty eight years old just to get to
the Western Conference he had never been. That's totally different.
That's a guy who's who's uh has loyalty team, who
doesn't want to run away from a situation. Anybody could
have said, why would you stay there ten years? You
should have left after five or six years. Ant Man
is a young player, twenty three, he's been there twice.
(29:27):
It's not to say it's apples and oranges.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
It's not the player, it's the organization.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
That's what I'm trying to about where he is and
what I'm saying is too. This could be a Dann
Marino where you don't want to also just I'm gonna
be here several times. I know he hopes that and
believes it, but you gotta take advantage when.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
You get there. And he went one time it was
even too.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
But this is not even the finals, Rob Da have
Arina went to the super Bowl? You keep out like
it's the finals. No, but you're talking about being at
the finals.
Speaker 5 (29:54):
You just compared him to Kevin Garnett, who had to
wait till he was twenty eight years old. He came
out of high he played ten years, eighteen to twenty
eight just to get to the Western Conference finals. Is
not the same as a guy who's twenty two and
twenty three who already made it There I'm saying, if
I'm looking at it, I'm not saying, oh my god,
it's gonna take me ten years.

No, we're close. You hope you're close.

And I like it, and I love what he's about,
and he better, he and the team better not resting
the laurels and just think oh it's automatic, because it's not.

Who said it was that he just said he's gonna
work as hard as he can. He just say it's
automatically I'm talking. I just said he and the team
robbed the team.
