It's like, look out, Fatty's getting eating ribbed before the show.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Ain't nothing better than ribs when they fall off the bowl?
When of that?

Speaker 5 (00:51):
Good man, A good old beef beef rib But I
don't know if it was it beef. Yeah, man, last
time I tried pork ribs. I was in visiting my
family a couple couple of weeks ago, and I just realized,
how thebs.

Speaker 3 (01:05):

Speaker 4 (01:47):
We wouldn't be able to do this fine radio program
without them. Rob g is our producer as always, Alex
is our engineer along with.

Speaker 6 (01:57):
Mary Mary Why you bug In? We love that song,
right Mary Mary all right? And Steve de Seger is
at the update desk, and.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Elijah is our social media guru, one of the best
in the business.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
So a lot to do.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
And we're broadcasting live from the ti rach dot com studios.
Let's get that in as well. Carrie, let's go here.
Big news. Aaron Donald. He's done thirty two years, ten
years in the NFL, made a ton of money, and
he is finished. He doesn't want to play anymore, doesn't

(02:41):
want to put all the energy and everything you played
in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
How many years you play? Nine? So you know what
you know what he's feeling.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Yes, And I guess the question is, like he was
supposed to get a roster bonus on Saturday. It would
have been twenty million. Instead they're gonna give him eight million,
and he's gonna go on as merry way and retire
football and looking forward to the future and time with
his family and all that other stuff. Right, But you
wonder was it smart or was it dumb? And here's

(03:13):
the reason I say this. Some people would say carry
and you know this, once you leave the National football
you'll never make the kind of money that you were making.
And it's a dramatic fall. I don't care carrying my
right role.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
You're right, brother, dude.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
It's a dramatic fall that guys don't realize until you're
not that check. You're not getting that kind of check anymore.
And there's no job that's gonna pay you unless you're
Tom Brady and you're going to Fox to do football.
They're gonna give you thirty seven and a half million dollars.
That's the only job I ever saw where a professional
athlete is going to make more than when they played yeah, but.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
You know, so you're giving that up. But number two.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Is, and let me give you the exact numbers, okay,
for him, So he was due to make twenty five
million dollars this year, so twenty five million to zero.
And I'm not saying that he doesn't have money or whatever,
the previous contracts and all that, but you have such
a finite window to earn that kind of money. Yeah,

(04:21):
that's the question mark is should you give up twenty
five million dollars when you're healthy, when you're still young,
when you're never going to make twenty five million dollars
a year again? And that is the question about leaving
too early. I would rather leave too early than too late. Yes, okay,

(04:44):
So I think most people will agree with that. When
you're trying to hang on and now you're still playing
and you're making a veterans minimum like that, that's out.
You were making big money and now you're just sticking
around and you're not making any money and you're putting
your body and all that in harm's way.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
I'm not hating on him. This is his own decision.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
He can do whatever he wants. Uh, but it is
worth talking about.

Speaker 7 (05:08):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
When you're talking about that kind of money. I think
he's smart.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
Yeah, no, no, no, I think it's a it's a it's
a slippery slope. Players know when they're done, and players
know when they have other aspirations outside of the game.
And you know, he was flirting with this last year.
This isn't I know, this isn't new, This isn't new, right,
So obviously he went through another year of it and
gave it another go, and.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
And he realized that Matthew Stafford still his quarterback.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
He realized that I didn't say that, matt I said it,
but yeah, he realized that he knows what it takes
to be the player that he is. He's one of
the greatest of all time. Uh, one of the best
defenders I've ever seen, the best defender of this generation,
for sure.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
And you know, when time is up is up.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Man.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
There's so much more to life than the dollar. And
we do know how important that is in today's society.
There's nowhere around that. But there's so much more to
life than the dollar. And I'm sure he knows that
he's made enough in his life to if he does
invest it well and take cares of it, his family's good.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
But there are a lot of players who try to
get back, you know, once they get off of the
money train. Yeah, and I get it, I'm sure. So
what he did is they gave him thirteen point eight
million in cash when.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
He restructured his deal earlier this week.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
So that means he gave up about eleven million dollars
this year, and I guess he's happy to go away
with thirteen point eight. The government will take half, you
know what I mean, So it'll be about seven you know,
when you the agent gets three percent or whatever, you
know what I mean. You start to figure out all that,
and it ain't twenty five. It ain't twenty five, okay, yeah,
and it ain't close to twenty five. But you played

(06:51):
nine years after you were out. I'm sure your body
and your mind felt good and all that. What did
you ever think maybe I should have played a couple
more years and and and made a little more money.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
You do think of those things down the line, when,
like you said, those those checks that you're receiving, even
as an actor. For me, I've been on some big sets.
I've been on the TV series as a as a
series regular, so I know how.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Those checks look too, they're not the same.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
Not to say they will never be the same, right
in that regard, right, But for me, it's it's about
the level of being happy and content as a human man.
And like I said, he's already been battling this. This
is a decision that he almost made last year. You
have to live with it. The money won't be the
same for him, for sure.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
Because I remember when I was in Detroit when Barry
Shanders quit around the same time, ten years.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
Ten years.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
They're both Pro bowlers all ten and all that, all
time great players and Hall of famers and all that that.
Barry of course in and Donald will be in. But
I think Barry wanted to come back after he You
did quit early, you know what I mean, And and
and maybe prematurely and thought better about it because I

(08:06):
think he wanted to go to Miami, and the Lions
had his rights and would not allow him to play
because he because he quite Yeah. Uh, somebody else I
was thinking of, who quit? Uh, Ricky Williams, do you
remember you quit to go smoke weed? Do you remember
that he should have waited? Now it would be okay,
fit right in right now?

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (08:26):
Yeah, no, no, but Ricky Williams was a young guy,
so and then he quit right smoked weed and tibet
or whatever it was, and then realized his money was
running out and he's spending too much money on rolling papers.
And then he decided he wanted to He came back
and played, came back.

Speaker 5 (08:43):
And played, Yeah, Rob, I will I will sit here
and say, I don't think that will happen with Donald.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
I don't think. I don't think that will happen with Donald.
I really think he's done.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
And then bus Alvin Johnson did the same thing prematurely
on the Lions as well.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
Yeah, he was in purgatory though he needed to get
out of there. And obviously at that time they weren't good.
He was getting he was dealing with some injuries as well,
and so I'm sure for him he probably felt good
about the decision. I see the same with Donald. I
don't think he would try to come back. The position
that he plays is so demanding, so taxing his body.
He's getting beat up all the time. So I'm sure
he's come to peace with that decision. And the other thing, too,

(09:22):
is different.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
If you're on your way down, I could see you
trying to get out.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
He's at the top of his game. He was just
named the first team.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
All Pro last year too, eighth time ranking on the
first team All Pro.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
So he's retiring at the top of his game.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
And that's what That's what Barry did, and that's why
people the reaction.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
To Barry was bad in Detroit.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
People were really mad because not only that, people get selfish.
You don't get to see this guy play. Why would
you step away when you have something in the tank?
It's one thing if you don't, it's one thing if
you're you're battling injuries or you're battling hell issues or something,
and that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
I don't know. I'm just saying on the surface what
we see.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
So I don't know if there's other things going on
internally or something else going on.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Yeah, but it is.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
It's one of those things you just wonder down the road,
do you go, man, I should have played three more years.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Down the road.

Speaker 5 (10:19):
Hindsight's always twenty twenty. I was when I left after
my last year.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
I was.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
One of the highest rates players in my position still,
so I could say the same thing. I mean, obviously
not on the Donald level as far as what that
accolades are.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
But with myself personally, what you've just done with football,
you didn't feel like doing it anymore because the commitment,
Like people don't understand. I really don't think most people
understand the commitment you have to make to be a
professional athlete at that level.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
I mean, it's consumed your life. It consumes your life.

Speaker 5 (10:50):
For me personally, I had other goals, other objectives in
the life that I wanted to reach and meet, And
you know, I didn't want to leave the game body
more injured than what it was at that time. I
fractured my back my last year, right, So the threat
of certain things starting to happen with the body was
a real thing.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Well that's a big one. If you you got you
got an issue there. You don't want to be paralyzed,
am I right? I mean I'm mine, But I mean
that that's that's a possibility.

Speaker 5 (11:16):
It was showing that and as you get older, I
mean up until that point, I hadn't hadn't missed any games,
but so like year seven, year eight, start things start
to like, oh I tweaked my foot. Oh okay, I'm
out for a couple of weeks up until that point,
never missed the game, never missed the start, any of that.
So age happens and life happens, and you're like, Okay, Lively,
telling I need to move, I need to I need

(11:37):
to protect this, you know. So that's where I went.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
It is.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
It is a decision that I'm sure he thought over
with his family. Sure, and you gotta be good about
it because we saw Brett Favre retire, come back, retire,
come back, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
And it was like back and forth, and.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
We've seen some players continue to do that when they're
not sure but right and the case, we're gonna miss
a good one.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
But uh, here we are. Was it a smart or dumb?

Speaker 4 (12:05):
Was it smarter dumb of Aaron Donald to retire in
the middle of his prom We'll continue that conversation next

(14:35):
to bow out in his prime, in his prime with
twenty five million dollars on the table.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
We're gonna see. We're gonna go to the callers here.
We're gonna see what they think.

Speaker 5 (14:45):
Rob.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
We got Steven from California. You're on with the odd couple. Man.

Speaker 10 (14:49):
Hey guys, thanks for having me, Yes, sir, There's there's
a video going around right now of kind of a
tribute to Aaron Donald. It shows him on Draft Day
in his living room when we notice he on a
little boy, and that's the son that he had when
he was at PIG And there was an article and
I wish I could recall it late last year that
really delved into that he really struggles with the fact

(15:11):
that for the entire training camp in the season he
doesn't see his son much and that was really tearing
at him. And I think this had probably ninety nine
percent to do with that decision. He's got the money,
he got that ring a couple of years ago, and
anyone who's a parent can really put theirselves in issues
and understand why he did what he did.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
I get that, but I'm gonna say most of the.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
Guys playing are have kids and families, you know what
I mean, And so I understand that, and everybody's a
different degree. But my biggest thing, and I think it's
a smart move. I've already told you I don't have
an issue with him doing what he did, but there
is just a financial part of it that's real, like

(15:55):
twenty like twenty four walking away from twenty five million
dollars thirty two not thirty eight, right, you know, or
beat up or or like in that spot. It is
a decision that I'm telling you couldn't have been that easy.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
It couldn't have been easy.

Speaker 5 (16:10):
But I think the other layer to this part of
the story is think about how many people are in
the NFL are out there stealing money and playing knowing
there aren't knowing that their heart isn't a hundred percent there, right,
So for me and Aaron Donald, this makes it makes
it commendable for me actually if he's.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Not going to be in it, and we we know that,
I mean, I know, I know you're in football players
who told me I don't really like this, Like, I'm
just doing it because I can earn a living at it?
Am I right there? Guys you play with plenty of sure,
right you can tell. Yeah, they're just they're like, okay,
I'm six foot four and three hundred into our pal

(16:48):
you know what I mean, Like make a living, But
I don't like this.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
I mean, you could be a backup for a couple
of years if you want to just really make the
money and be there. So yeah, I see a lot
of it all the time. Let's go to the next caller.
We got Andre from Massachusetts. You're on with the OKO.
How are you man?

Speaker 3 (17:04):
What's up?

Speaker 11 (17:04):
Dra How you.

Speaker 7 (17:06):
Doing Happy Friday. Thanks for taking the call. Listen. I
have to concur in terms of Aaron Donald, it doesn't
seem like he has his death for it, just based
on the statistics. His outlier year was what twenty eighteen,
twenty sacks, twenty five tackles for lost, you know, player
of the year. But these last two years he was hurt.
Last year only played eleven games, five sacks, this year

(17:28):
eight sacks. He hasn't had double digit sacks since twenty
twenty one, and so you're seeing the production start to
creep down, creep down a bit, and then he's already
kind of subliminals previously.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
No, he did Buddy's first team All Pro. I mean, like, like,
I hear you, but the dre So what you're saying
is true with the numbers, but he's he's going bowing
out at the top of his games All Pro.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
It's still in All Pro less Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Like like that doesn't happen like usually you're dipped down
or you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
His level is what's so he's still gonna be better.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
No, yes, he's not that guy, but he's still better
than most guys playing his.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
Position in the game. Absolutely. Yeah, so duy you think
it's a smart move.

Speaker 7 (18:14):
I do because based on the fact he's put out
subliminals before that he's contemplating retirement. Another guy like an
Aaron Rodgers, who has to have the drama and the
attention every single offseason, you know, the soap opera. But
he said, which is a little bit surprising, because he's
in that major market. They just want a super Bowl.
He's a sofi stadium. So to the point about, you know,
I just think Aaron Donald he's on the other end

(18:36):
of the spectrum from these guys that do the quiet
quitting and just pick up their checks. Because of his
he's always been a type a personality, you know, me
against the world ship on my shoulder. Nobody gave me
a chance. And so I think he's saying, if I
can't go one hundred and ten percent, Yeah, if I
can't lock in like I need to lock in, then
it's time to step away. I can't do what the
other guys do and just get over on folks, you

(18:56):
know what I mean. And so I think I credit
him for that. And then you athletes, no, I'm not in,
you know, but when you're when you're going half speed.
That's when the injuries comes.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
Well, I don't want to do that, right, you don't.

Speaker 7 (19:06):
You don't want to be there? Thanks taking a call.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
Yeah, I appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox our next caller,
we got Jerome from Charleston, South Carolina.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
You're on with the odd couple. Man, How are you
all right?

Speaker 11 (19:18):
I hope you saved your money. You sound like you
sound like a smart guy. I hope we don't have
to hold any benners and charities for you.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
No, we're good. We're good. We're good in casa carry
over here very nice.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
I was gonna say, I was looking for the go
fum your not yet, not yet, not yet.

Speaker 11 (19:35):
Beg hey, j Chris jor break off a little something
something for for Aaron Doe getting that contract, because I
know when he walked into the kemeny far off he said,
I won't add Aaron Donald money because hey, if that
guy checked the ball, real hard man, he says, a double.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
Team on just about every point, every place.

Speaker 11 (19:56):
And whatever he was off to that you've never promowed
your protection to him.

Speaker 12 (20:01):
He lined up outside hey outside, and Ji hey inside
up outside hey outside, wherever he wants he faced the
double team and after about nine years, Man, your.

Speaker 11 (20:12):
Body take your beat him. Man, it's like Emma Smith
talking about who's like to like in a series of
car crashes.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
No, I I agree. I Hey, I drew him. I
agree with all that.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
But I'm telling you Barry Sanders wanted to come back
with the Dolphins and play after he was out a
couple of years. That's all I'm saying. Much how much
the Barry Santa's still having a tank when he played?
Because you're did you come?

Speaker 3 (20:35):
Yeah? No, he was playing at a high level. That's why.
Oh yeah, that's why it was such a shock when
he quit. You know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
But but you know you you live with it. And
and again I think it's smart if Aaron Donald doesn't
really want to play anymore, he's made his money and
he feels good about it. Uh, it's it's his right
to step out. All I'm saying is there is a
financial thing there that you can't ignore us true and
it's and it's true. It's like like it's a lot
of money left out there, but it is what it is.

(21:04):
We wish him nothing but the best. I don't know,
does he want to be on television too. Everybody who
retires wants to be on television analysts.

Speaker 5 (21:12):
I don't see him doing that at all. Right, I
think he's going to ride on to the sunset really
and just really do businessman and familyman kind.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
Of thing I do.

Speaker 4 (21:20):
Yeah, all right, coming up, we're going to talk about
Jim Harbaugh and he's just doing wholesale changes. I don't
even recognize the charges. They've gotten rid of so many people.
My god, is that a good thing or bad thing?
We'll talk about that, but.

Speaker 8 (21:32):
First, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup

mister Chris Bussard. He'll be back on Monday. We're broadcasting

We were just talking about the chargers and all the moves.
Rob g joined us and tell us because this is

(22:06):
a tear down like they Steve even brought it up.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
They were all in.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
They mortgage the future and now they got to reap
the benefits. And I think most people who were Charger
fans looked at the team and were like, Okay, at
Jim Harbor, they had a bad coach and Brandon Staley
who cost him.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
I think he.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
Really hurt that team the last few years with a
lot of them like there were games they should have won.
I remember a couple of years ago. I don't know
if you remember this, they should have beat the Chiefs here,
and he went for it a couple times in his
own you know, yeah, backed up and it cost him
and I'm just like, how like, how could you do that?

(22:45):
Didn't take field goals? Yes, and we've seen the Chiefs
this past year to win a Super Bowl. How many
field goals did they take when they couldn't get in
the end zone.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Yeah, he was egregious with.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
Really really bad and I think it really hurt the
But Rob g up, let's hear about the tear down.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Sure you and Steve alluded to it there before the update.

Speaker 13 (23:06):
The Chargers top four offensive weapons entering Week one of
last season are now gone. They will not be there
in twenty twenty four. Austin Eckler was a free agent,
didn't resign him. Mike Williams, big cap casualty, Keenan Allen
was traded because he didn't want to take a pay cut,
and Jerald Everett was quietly one of their better move
tight ends.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
He's gone.

Speaker 13 (23:24):
He's in a new city as well. So I know
that you guys mentioned the cap situation and that was
kind of staring them in the face in the beginning.
But we talked about this on the show before, Rob
that the New Orleans Saints a few years ago were
thirty million dollars over the cap and they were able
to get to twenty million under the cap with restructuring,
and that's how they got Derek Carr without having to
lose any key players. So if they really really wanted

(23:44):
to keep could have there we go. They could have
and ultimately decided not to.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
You.

Speaker 13 (23:48):
So, Rob, are you still as high on this Jim
Harbaugh in La as you were two months ago.

Speaker 9 (23:55):
No.

Speaker 4 (23:56):
I think with all those moves now, they've pushed it
back to where the Chargers where I thought they just
they were a good head coach away from You know,
when Jim Harball got to San Francisco, they turned that
thing around and they went to what three NFC championship
games and went to the Super Bowl once it was

(24:16):
immediate and I don't look at the Chargers that way.
I don't know. And obviously the draft is gonna come
and get some other players. And I get all that.
It's not like you're not going to replace these guys.
But the talent on that team, they had talent on
both sides of the ball. This team was supposed to
be a team that could compete and get there. I
don't feel as good about it.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
I don't know. Are we now looking at three years
carry for Jim Harball.

Speaker 5 (24:41):
I actually feel good about it, okay, And I'll tell
you why. That team a lot of names, a lot
of players that we expected to be good, right, Keenan
Allen was the only one that was super You know.
I guess who showed up this year and played to
the level of his name in his contract?

Speaker 3 (25:01):
Right, wasn't he on a living color on that somebody?

Speaker 5 (25:04):
No, that was not Joe Everytt was pretty good as well.
But you can find a tight end. But I think
he's molding that team around what he wants to do.
That's the number one thing for a head coach that
comes in to you know, have an identity. You know,
some of those big time players when you have a
new coach come in, it's hard for them to buy
in because things are going to be different. Keenan Allen

(25:26):
is a number one. You know, he's probably right now
number two receiver in this league. He was still with
the Chargers a number one this year. He can go
to a situation where he's in Chicago now and you know,
play well and still play well for a couple of years.
But here with the way that I think that hard
ball is gonna run that team, they're gonna be a
little bit more run, run, run.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
It's running centric.

Speaker 5 (25:48):
They're gonna put the ball on the ground a little
bit and you know, play action. It makes some plays
here and there. But his numbers were gonna go down
anyway with the Chargers. So you take that, you get
rid of him, and you save some money therett you
can find a tight end. A lot of times tight
ends are are interchangeable, so he can go out and
get one of those. Austin Neckler's done, so that's I
have to worry about that. I mean, he's not the
same guy, So I don't think those losses are as

(26:11):
big as the restructuring that they did on the defensive
side of the ball, right, Khalil Mack came back restructured,
Bosa came back restructured.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
So don't I don't even understand, Like, like I know,
I talk about this all the time.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
Yeah, the players Union is so bad?

Speaker 4 (26:28):
Why do you have to restructure? Like I like, you're
the ownership. You made this deal. Restructure or get caught
or get because you don't want to clean up the
mess that you made.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
I don't even understand that as bad.

Speaker 4 (26:43):
But you can't restructure If I have an all pro
year and I'm underpaid, I can't go to you and say,
let's restructure this and give me a a Oh no, no,
this is your deal.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
It's your deal. Yeah, no, I know it's the worst.
It's one side. It's the worst. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:57):
I mean, like even like we were talking about my
last year, right, I'm still old. I'm not gonna say
it almost said the number, but a lot of money
and I walk away from it. I don't get anything
from that. That's it's I'm released it and it's gone.
It's just it's wiped off the books. It's badruction is bad.

Speaker 4 (27:13):
I just don't even understand the nature of why people
would accept that. And that's why I say that the
players in the NFL, they should have real contract I'd
rather a three year, fully guaranteed contract. Carry If you're bad,
that's it. Okay, you got your three years. If you're good,
I can go elsewhere and make more money. Why why
can't they give people real contracts rather than this, Oh yeah,

(27:38):
all these guys go around, Oh you I just signed
a eight year fake numbers. Josh Jacob's four for forty eight.
What he got is a one year deal for fourteen million.
Now the other money is not guaranteed. The other thirty
what a twenty six million is not even guaranteed?

Speaker 3 (27:54):
What was this guaranteed? Fourteen?

Speaker 4 (27:56):
One year?

Speaker 3 (27:57):
That's what it's coin.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
Why won't an agentcy they got a one year contract
for fourteen Why would you put that out or let
the team say he got a four year, forty eight
million dollar deal when that's not what he got.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
And we talked about it. By the time the government takes.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
Their half and the agent and whatever he made, he's
gonna make three million dollars.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
Man, that's what he's gonna make. It's crazy. Three are
four million? Dollars.

Speaker 5 (28:19):
Rob I played in New York, so we had to
actually play. We had to pay New York state taxes
and New Jersey state taxes because we played in Jersey.

Speaker 4 (28:27):
Oh it was so now why would you Why because
the trading facility was in New York.

Speaker 5 (28:33):
Yes, so when we first we first started out, we
were in Long Island, right right, That's what I in.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
The stadium was in New Jersey. So we had to
pay taxes for both.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
I remember when they started doing that with players, charging
them to come into the city to play, because see,
they can't do that for the average joe, even though
they but they know your schedule, they know you're in
New Jersey.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
And they know how much money you make.

Speaker 5 (28:59):
Yeah, so they can put it to it, right for sure.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
It's crazy. So so you have good feelings. You think
the charge is gonna be good next year.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
I think it's hard.

Speaker 5 (29:08):
It's gonna be make the playoffs next year. I'm saying
they will not o t make I gotta see what
they signed. They gotta make some signings here, but they're
gonna make some signings. So I need to see where
the roster UH ends up after the draft, and you know,
then I'll see. Okay, Yeah, I think it's gonna be
hardlus his first year, you know what I mean, because
there's gonna be changing for sure and stuff. I'm just
saying first year, probably not And you gotta get because

(29:31):
he's gonna change stuff. You know, everything that they've been
doing over the last few years is gonna change.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
So sure, all right. Coming up next, we got a
little schech Co City. I've been on a roll lately.
And also, can you believe a Major League picture turned
down starting on opening Day? We'll talk about that and
how crazy is that crazy? Or maybe he had his
reasons and maybe it makes sense. We'll talk about that

(29:57):
and much more. It is the Odd Couple, Rob Parker,

All right, carry it is now time for a little
Shekels city. All right, last night I was two and one.

(31:04):
I'm in two and one of the last couple of nights.
We need to get a little hat trick. We need
all three tonight, so let's start here. Game that's about
to start. I'm gonna take the Clippers on the road
against the Pelicans. Clippers plus six and a half. Clippers
plus six and a half on the road. They'll lose,
but by close.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
Okay, all right, Okay.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
I got Denver minus ten and a half. They're in
San Antonio taking on the Spurs. Everyone knows it's wimby,
but they still gonna lose.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (31:34):
And then finally I'm gonna take Atlanta minus two and
a half. They are in Utah taking on the Jazz.
So I have the Jazz. I mean the Hawks minus
two and a half, Denver minus ten and a half,
and the Clippers plus six and a half.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
As the best bet.

Speaker 4 (31:53):
And remember, I'm not telling you who to bet on.
I'm telling you who I bet on. All right, let's
turn to Major League Baseball. The season starts next week
because the Dodgers, and is it the Padres right or
on their way they're playing? Is it South Korea? What
am I missing? South Korea? They got two games in

(32:15):
South Korea next week, but then the following week the
Major League Baseball season starts all over the place. And
Marcus Strowman, who is a Yankee starter, was offered a
chance to start on opening Day and decided carry thank

(32:37):
you very much, but he'd rather not, right, So, Rob,
do you got the quote from from Marcus?

Speaker 12 (32:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (32:46):
He was asked earlier today about his decision to pass
an opening day because the opening day is a big
honor in baseball.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
It is who pictures on opening day.

Speaker 13 (32:53):
And he said, quote, I want to stay on schedule
and on track.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
That was his quote, because his current pro.

Speaker 13 (33:00):
Lines up for him to start the season on March thirtieth,
and he doesn't think that the two weeks allotted it
would be enough time for him to adjust his schedule.

Speaker 4 (33:08):
And I know people right away say, oh, you know
you pitch opening day or whatever. Right, But if he
knows his body and routine, shouldn't we give him the
benefit of the doubt. He's not saying he doesn't want
to do it. He's saying, I'm gonna be the third starter.
I got my regiment. I know what I need to
do for my body to stay on track. If he
does this and you know, gets off track and doesn't

(33:30):
have a good year, like I think there's a I
think there's some sanity to this. I don't think it's
as egregious as some people think.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
Really, yeah, so I'm just.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Because he knows his well. She's saying he doesn't want
to do it because of his routine. Do you do
you know what I'm saying?

Speaker 3 (33:46):
Yes, I do.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
But New York market and media is very fickle, and
that shows and especially Yankee faithful, which I've been there.
I've been to the stadium. I used to have a
sweet stare and I would be around lot. If they
think that you're ducking any kind of smoke there, it
will be a story all year. So he better hope

(34:08):
he comes out and performs this year, because like little
hiccups like this will last a long time. They won't
be hiccups. They'll start as a hiccup in New York
and end up in avalanche out there. So I just
gotta be careful. And I get it because Garrett Cole
got hurt.

Speaker 3 (34:24):
Miss. Yes, right, So he's the opening day starter.

Speaker 4 (34:26):
He won the America League cy Youngest past year and
was tremendous last year, so he's heard. But the flip
side is if he gets out of his routine, Marcus Strowman, right,
and you get killed or crushed on opening day? Do
you do? You see what I'm saying. So now he
could say, see, I really wasn't ready, you know what

(34:47):
I mean.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
I'm not.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
I know my body, I know what my routine is.
This guy's had success in the big leagues, and I
think he would want to pitch as an honor because
A he's from New York originally, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
He was born in New York.

Speaker 4 (34:59):
Yeah, he pitched for the Mets before I had success.
So he's pitched in New York with the crowds and
all that, and now he he is and I think
I gotta take a look at the schedule, Rob g
Do the Yankees play three games in Houston or just two?
Because what it might wind up being is he pitches
the Yankee home opener. If it's if he's pitched, making

(35:20):
the third start, Okay, so maybe yeah, it's do the
Yankees and Astro's play the first two and I'm going
I'm gonna be there for game one in Yeah, I'm
gonna cover that for mlbbro dot com. But but I
wonder if if there's the third game, you know what
I mean?

Speaker 3 (35:37):
And and that's at Yankee tam. You know, I really
want to know how did that story even get out?

Speaker 4 (35:42):
So the three first three games are in Houston, all
of them, the first four games are in Houston, Okay,
so he's pitching there or anything.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
Not that I wouldn't know how the story got out that. Yeah,
I'm sure that, I'm sure that there was. He turned
it down.

Speaker 4 (35:53):
Yeah that reportedly, Uh, he was asked about it because
of course the reporter. After Garrett Cole, they go to
Aaron Boone, the manager, and say, well, what are you gonna.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
Do for opening Day? Now? Your opening day pictures hurt?

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Are you going to move somebody up, so that starts
the wheels turning. What about Stroman is he could he
possibly be opening day?

Speaker 8 (36:14):
Now?

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Well, we talked to Stroman and he wants to stay on.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
So then they go talk to Stroman and then but
at least to his credit, he gave to me which
is a credible answer.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
I'm with you an honor to.

Speaker 4 (36:28):
Pitch opening day forty Yankees, the most story franchise in sports.
You know that it doesn't happen all the time. As
long as Garrett Cole's on the team and healthy, he's
going to pitch opening Day. Yes, so this is a
it's an honor. But I think Stroman is looking at
it like I want to get off to a good start.
I want to have a good year in New York,

(36:49):
and I don't want to adjust what I've done. I've
been working all spring to be the third starter.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
No, I'm with it. There's some you know, baseball players
are quirky like that.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
I do know that I and I get all my
baseball information from uh, what's what's what's the movie with
with the Indians and the and the and the chicken
Jabu jabu.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
That's what you get it from the superstitions, all the superstars.
It is crazy, all right.

Speaker 4 (37:18):
Our number two of the odd Couples coming up, and
we're gonna talk about Brodny James. Some people are saying,
no way, no how should he go into the draft.
But I'm gonna got I got news for you, and
I'm going to tell you that. Coming up next hour,
it's the odd Couple. Fox Sports Radio, Stick and Stay America.
