a moment ago, the uh scandal that potentially could rock

the league, or certainly one of them, and arguably even
the face or one of the faces of the league.
His interpreter, good friend of his, has been fired. It
was happened last week because he stole four and a

half million dollars from Otani to payoff games allegedly allegedly, yes, allegedly,
thank you, to pay off gambling debts and show hal
Tani spoke today, not too long ago, just within the
last hour or so, and do we have some sound
of it, Rob J.

Yeah, Well he just read a press release, Crystal. He
didn't really take questions. It wasn't a real press prize,
but he did have a statement.

So we are waiting on that. We don't have it

I saw it and basically denied everything that he didn't
he didn't bet on baseball, he didn't make a bet
on anything, and that he was he was robbed by
his good friend and interpreter, and that he didn't know
anything that was going on. Chris, they were taking four
and a half million dollars or whatever it is out

of his accountant.

I got to you know what, Andrew Brandt, who we've

or anything Chris, but it's hard for me to believe
like he has no knowledge.

either old Tani is not telling the truth or has

Think about all these things that had to go wrong
for him not or for people not looking out for him,

a bank that noted for Chris. A certain amount of
money comes out of your account, the bank calls you
or alert you, right, everybody, you got an agent who's
supposed to overlook you got an accountant. Why is this
five hundred thousand dollars coming out of your account. That's

what an accountant'll do or your manager.

And he obviously did not, I mean, nobody was able
to ask him a question, and obviously we don't like that.

I'm sure his legal team they probably.

or you know what I mean, I get that, as
frustrating as it may be, but I understand that from
his size perspective, I don't know this.

This story is just taken on so many things. Chris.
I'm not saying that.

He bet on baseball because that because that's the biggest thing.
And I think the other part is in the state
of California, and what what is that issue for him?
Chris is the illegal bookie and you know it's against
the law in Los in California, and I lost it
in California to gamble. So that's why he has to
really distance himself from that, because if he were to

admit to that, that that's you you've broken the law.

And then there's the other wire fraud.

on baseball, it's just horrible. But I mean the in
terms of it taken away from Opening Day, no doubt,
and it really was probably one of the most stars
study teams in recent memory.

I was on MLB Now with Brian Kenny today on
MLB Network and we talked about it, and I did
what you just said. It's a distraction. It's the worst
possible way you want to start this season with the Dodgers,
who are supposed to be like the Beatles this year,
Chris right, Like ticket sales for Dodger games all over

the country or through the roof, like when they come
to town, people were buying tickets no matter what stadium
or whoever they were playing.

And then for this to count.

And I'm not saying that this is a buzzkill on everything,
because it could come out after an investigation that there
is no evidence of him betting on baseball, and then
that would that part would move away that cloud, right,

the NBA story.

Yeah, yeah, John Ta porter John told the line up
tonight and subject of an NBA investigation into irregularities on
prop betting involving him. Uh that is uh Toronto Raptors Center.
Speaker 6 (13:55):
And Chris, are you ready for this?

So his prop bets, so he only played four minutes
that night. Let me see, he only played four minutes,
came out with an aggravated eye, and so all the
prop bets hit for him, which was five and a

half points, four and a half rebounds, and one and
a half assists, and there was also an over they
don't know if he bet on him for Porters made
three pointers, but here it is Chris.

Yeah, this is what they're investigating.

But the next day, as a part of the daily
report on users on betting results, DraftKings Sportsbook reported that
the under on Porter's three pointers Chris was the biggest
money winner for betters of any NBA player props from
games that evening. So that's why it became suspicious because

people bet.

Heavy on there.

They would be like, why would you be why would
there be such a heavy betting action on that? And
then this guy comes out the game. That's what they
looked for in regularity, like you might bet on something,
but why is it on Johnte Porter and his you
know what I mean? Like that's weird that that they
were big losers of a lot of money.

He could have told his friends, his family, his boys,
load up.

the game, you know what I mean? Like you set

Pete Rose was an icon. I just hate like people
don't understand you look at that guy now, Chris, and

he was that big in baseball, played on one of

Rob And also, and I was in Cincinnati as a
kid when Pete Rose played. People can't understand how big
he is. He wasn't the number one star in baseball.

He's the most polarizing figure since Barry Bonds and get
into the Joss Porter thing. I think the elephant in
the room is fantasy sports. I mean, you can have
guys impact their stats in all types of games that
people are playing. And when you have the Cleveland Cavaliers
coach a bigger staff talk about it, and then you

look at it, it's not the guys making fifty million
dollars a season and see other guys at Yan Rosses
who are impacting games. I think some bigger epidemic going
on in basketball than just one player. It might be
multiple players all around the league.

So I meant some of these players, you know, you look,
first of all, nobody's making as much money as showhand.
So making somebody amount of money may not be a factor,
but you would think rob some of these players. You know,
these guys are in the league for a year, two years,

three years, you know, not making the big money that
these athletes make.

seen maybe you haven't seen, but Porter. Yeah, well not
old tiny but Johntay Porter for the Toronto Raptors. He's
now being investigated. Do you I mean you obviously played
in the league when the league leagues weren't in bed
with gambling gambling the way they are now. Do you

think that we could see some problems with no leers?

Yeah, go ahead, Nick, Except my thing is, I don't
think it's just players any time that you're involving gambling,
you have to understand what you're bringing in.

It's like you're you're opening the door to a spirit
that you don't want to be attached to. That's how
I've always talked about it. But think about it. JB.
Bipperstaff has received threats from fans over gay. I felt like,
and I've always felt like that gambling has put a
very unhealthy and dangerous spotlight on players and coaches in

this league because a lot of some of the people
that are gamblings could care less about the game right yourself,
the fabric of the game. It's more about their money.
Anytime you're talking about money, people losing money, you have
to understand what you're what you're signing up for.

You know what Antonio's people, Antonio I mean because once
your money becomes involved, you know what I mean, Like,
you're not you're not pulling for a team or players,
You're pulling for your bet.

And and they and they know it. They know what
the spread is.

They they're yelling at Bickerstaff to keep his stars in
so that they could cover the spread, you know, correct,
Like like that's crazy.

And the thing is as a coach or as a player,
my job, Like, think about how many times this year
that you've heard players I've seen it. I've seen it
numerous times via social media where a player comes out
and tweets thatt a fan and says, I could care
less about your prop bet right, because what they're doing

now people are attacking players. You know, they're putting your
prop beats up. Okay, if if all five of these
things hit, I went five thousand dollars and four to
five hits, and the one that didn't hit is on
the player that was supposed to hit five threads but
he hit four. He's supposed to get can of rebounds
and he got eight. So now you're watching the game

from a completely different perspective, and I don't. I mean,
we have to understand what we're asking here. I understand
that everything is about the fans and everything is about entertainment,
but we have to understand what we are what we
are allowing in here.

Yeah, now you said, and you're right on the money.
Let's get to some NBA action. The Lakers still the
ninth seed out West, but they've won five of their
last seven. I think eight of their last twelve are
what type of threat are they if any in the
way Western Conference playoffs.

Well, I think they're a thread definitely. If you have
Lebron James and Anthony Davis, you're a threat. That that's
the that's the easy way that. Listen, we know and
I'm not telling you guys something that you don't already know.

they were able to do was god teams last year
in the playoffs that had physical foot line. So they
had mythith first round, right, they beat Mifith. They didn't
get Sacramento first round, they got Golden State, who.

State next round. But then when they met some similar
to physicality with Niko and Darren Gordon, they got swept.

just a tough that they haven't beaten Denver and who
knows how long.

But do you feel like they match up well with

I mean, Sacramentos owned them, they've owned Oklahoma City. But
do you think like a New Orleans which is young
and inexperienced compared to the Lakers, and you can say
that for a lot of the teams, do you think
that would be a positive factor for the Lakers?

Yes, I mean if if I'm a Laker fan and
if they make it is of course I'm saying, look,
as long as we can dodge Denver. But I don't
think the Lakers are the only fan base that are
making this argit as long as you can dodge Denver.
You have questions about Minnesota, You have questions about Phoenix.
You have questions about Oklahoma City, you have questions about

the Clippers, you have questions about the Pelicans, you have
questions all the way through all these fan bases and teams.
Fe like, you know what, if you can dodge Denver,

Tani spoke today, not too long ago, just within the
last hour or so, and do we have some sound

Yeah, Well he just read a press release, Crystal. He
didn't really take questions. It wasn't a real press prize,
but he did have a statement.

I saw it and basically denied everything that he didn't

MLB Network and we talked about it, and I did
what you just said. It's a distraction. It's the worst
possible way you want to start this season with the Dodgers,
who are supposed to be like the Beatles this year,

the country or through the roof, like when they come
to town, people were buying tickets no matter what stadium
or whoever they were playing.

tonight and subject of an NBA investigation into irregularities on
prop betting involving him. Uh that is uh Toronto Raptors Center.

So his prop bets, so he only played four minutes
that night. Let me see, he only played four minutes,
came out with an aggravated eye, and so all the
prop bets hit for him, which was five and a

half points, four and a half rebounds, and one and
a half assists, and there was also an over they
don't know if he bet on him for Porters made
three pointers, but here it is Chris.

Yeah, this is what they're investigating.

But the next day, as a part of the daily
report on users on betting results, DraftKings Sportsbook reported that
the under on Porter's three pointers Chris was the biggest
money winner for betters of any NBA player props from
games that evening. So that's why it became suspicious because

Heavy on there.

They would be like, why would you be why would
there be such a heavy betting action on that? And
then this guy comes out the game. That's what they
looked for in regularity, like you might bet on something,

He could have told his friends, his family, his boys,

they bust Show Hay on gambling on baseball, betting on baseball,
they're not gonna be lenient.

They're gonna throw the book at him. They already did
it to their all time hit leader. And Chris, they're
younger with people. Thank you. That's what I was gonna say.

Tell people, younger, people who are listen, who are listening,
Pete Rose was an icon. I just hate like people
don't understand you look at that guy now, Chris, and
you go, what like that little guy like what? No,
he was that big in baseball, played on one of
the greatest teams ever, the Big Red Machine.

This dude was a hitting machine.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
Rob And also, and I was in Cincinnati as a
kid when Pete Rose played. People can't understand how big
he is. He wasn't the number one star in baseball.
Now he was one of them. But baseball was bigger.
It was the national pastime, you know how it was.
You had three channels back then. Essentially when you saw

so players were bigger then.

I don't know who. I mean, he arguably was bigger.

You didn't see him as much, which made them even bigger, right.

It's not now Mookie Betts is probably a bigger star.
I mean, Pete Rose was as big as it gets though,
four thousand hits, Like, I don't think young people who
weren't around are live when he played can understand just
how big he was. Robert he is, like, I mean,
he was one of the game's absolute superstars.

on baseball or sports, so he put himself out there.
He's the most polarizing figure since Barry Bonds and get
into the Joss Porter thing. I think the elephant in
the room is fantasy sports. I mean, you can have
guys impact their stats in all types of games that
people are playing. And when you have the Cleveland Cavaliers
coach a bigger staff talk about it, and then you

look at it, it's not the guys making fifty million
dollars a season and see other guys at Yan Rosses
who are impacting games. I think some bigger epidemic going
on in basketball than just one player. It might be
multiple players all around the league.

So I meant some of these players, you know, you look,
first of all, nobody's making as much money as showhand.
So making somebody amount of money may not be a factor,
but you would think rob some of these players. You know,
these guys are in the league for a year, two years,

three years, you know, not making the big money that
these athletes make.

But Christ their targets.

And here's the other thing you can put your family
and friends on. Do you know what I mean? Like like,
you got a boy who's who's trying. He got twenty thousand.
I'll help you double that, Chris. I'll bet twenty thousand

And you know we remember the points shaving scandals in college,

now being investigated. Do you I mean you obviously played
in the league when the league leagues weren't in bed
with gambling gambling the way they are now. Do you

think that we could see some problems with no leers?

Yeah, go ahead, Nick, Except my thing is, I don't
think it's just players any time that you're involving gambling,
you have to understand what you're bringing in.

It's like you're you're opening the door to a spirit
that you don't want to be attached to. That's how
I've always talked about it. But think about it. JB.
Bipperstaff has received threats from fans over gay. I felt like,
and I've always felt like that gambling has put a
very unhealthy and dangerous spotlight on players and coaches in

this league because a lot of some of the people
that are gamblings could care less about the game right yourself,
the fabric of the game. It's more about their money.
Anytime you're talking about money, people losing money, you have
to understand what you're what you're signing up for.

You know what Antonio's people, Antonio I mean because once
your money becomes involved, you know what I mean, Like,
you're not you're not pulling for a team or players,
You're pulling for your bet.
Speaker 6 (25:34):
And and they and they know it. They know what
the spread is.

They they're yelling at Bickerstaff to keep his stars in
so that they could cover the spread, you know, correct,
Like like that's crazy.

And the thing is as a coach or as a player,
my job, Like, think about how many times this year
that you've heard players I've seen it. I've seen it
numerous times via social media where a player comes out
and tweets thatt a fan and says, I could care
less about your prop bet right, because what they're doing

now people are attacking players. You know, they're putting your
prop beats up. Okay, if if all five of these
things hit, I went five thousand dollars and four to
five hits, and the one that didn't hit is on
the player that was supposed to hit five threads but
he hit four. He's supposed to get can of rebounds
and he got eight. So now you're watching the game

from a completely different perspective, and I don't. I mean,
we have to understand what we're asking here. I understand
that everything is about the fans and everything is about entertainment,
but we have to understand what we are what we
are allowing in here.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
Yeah, now you said, and you're right on the money.
Let's get to some NBA action. The Lakers still the
ninth seed out West, but they've won five of their
last seven. I think eight of their last twelve are
what type of threat are they if any in the
way Western Conference playoffs.
Speaker 12 (27:02):
Well, I think they're a thread definitely. If you have
Lebron James and Anthony Davis, you're a threat. That that's
the that's the easy way that. Listen, we know and
I'm not telling you guys something that you don't already know.
This league is about matchups. Realistically. Do you think that
the Lakers if Sacramento be Golden State last year? Do

you think the Lakers go all the way to the
NBA Finals last year? Do you think the Lakers beg Sacramento.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
That's that's a good, uh good question.
Speaker 12 (27:36):
You know, the Lakers, what they got last year and
their way to the NBA Finals was lack of interior physicality.
That's their like, that's their achilles heel. You know, that's
why when you look at the way and that this
is one of the reasons Anthny David didn't want to
play center, right, that the physicality, it wears your body down. Like, look,
I don't I don't want to do on that. What
(27:57):
they were able to do was god teams last year
in the playoffs that had physical foot line. So they
had mythith first round, right, they beat Mifith. They didn't
get Sacramento first round, they got Golden State, who.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
Sacramento owns them?
Speaker 12 (28:12):
Yeah, ye, so then they got then they got Golden
State next round. But then when they met some similar
to physicality with Niko and Darren Gordon, they got swept.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
They couldn't win again, They couldn't win the right think
that saying it that that way? I mean, obviously Denver's
just a tough that they haven't beaten Denver and who
knows how long.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
But do you feel like they match up well with
every other time?
Speaker 5 (28:39):
I mean, Sacramentos owned them, they've owned Oklahoma City. But
do you think like a New Orleans which is young
and inexperienced compared to the Lakers, and you can say
that for a lot of the teams, do you think
that would be a positive factor for the Lakers?
Speaker 12 (28:54):
Yes, I mean if if I'm a Laker fan and
if they make it is of course I'm saying, look,
as long as we can dodge Denver. But I don't
think the Lakers are the only fan base that are
making this argit as long as you can dodge Denver.
You have questions about Minnesota, You have questions about Phoenix.
You have questions about Oklahoma City, you have questions about

the Clippers, you have questions about the Pelicans, you have
questions all the way through all these fan bases and teams.
Fe like, you know what, if you can dodge Denver,
I'm gonna go ahead and take my chances on everybody else,
and I will feel the think about it. The Lakers
are the most seasoned out of all of those teams, right,
other teams that we just named, ok See, Minnesota, the Pelicans,

Clippers go down the list. Phoenix, the Lakers are the
most seasons of all of them. And if I feel like, well,
if I have the Lakers have Anny Davids, I have
Lebron James, I have that championship DNA inexperience, if we
can get in, we got a shot.

Speaking of the Clippers, let me ask last thing. We
know what a what a really good coach ty lew
is we know that Westbrook been injured. I think he's
coming back. Is he coming back tomorrow? I think he's
oh today, I'm sorry. I know it was like very soon.
I thought it was tomorrow. But my point is, is

there some some other issue? There is there some locker
room something or some team thing, because we saw this
thing like a well oiled machine at one point when
they won eighteen out of twenty one and they were
just rolling.

Well, I'm not there in that locker room, so I
will be unfair for me to say that, but I
can tell you from experience of what I've seen and
what I've experienced, there is any such thing at speaking
too early. That's a real thing. So we have seen
teams peak in December. We've seen teams peak in Denbury, like,

for example, did the Lakers peak during the in season tournament?
Is that the best that they're going to love? Right?
And that's what That's what I mean. It's this league.
It's about matchups and peeking and playing the best basketball.
At the right side of the season. That Clippers team
that won eighteen to twenty one that you just referenced, Rob,
they were playing that way the second week of April.

Moving on, we're having a completely different conversation about.

This team championship right right, correct?

Correct the question that I have and I don't know
about locker room issues. I can tell you what they missed,
Russell Westbrook because bone Tiland cannot bring the same energy

still weren't that same team. Dam lost. I believe they
were two and two. I believe in their last four.

did the Clippers peak too early?

in the country, and I will sue the Washington Post
if they publish a false story about me. Not many
people are in a position to hold these kind of
journalists accountable.

All she did was basically throw out her trump card

of the greatest newspapers in our history. You think the
Washington Post is going to jeopardize Chris or put out
a story, Come on, really?

I wonder if she was trying to derail the storm,
scare the editors at the Washington Post, you know what
I mean? Like that, that's that seems to be what
she was trying to do.

that brought Richard Nixon's presidency down, that one Christ that newspaper.

So I think, like you said, she should have waited
until the story came out.

Come comes out, Rob, and it is negative, There's no
way it's as big a deal if she had not
said anything as it is now, right, it is going
to be a huge deal now.

And then you know how tough it is to prove defamation.

You have to prove that the guy was out to
get you put out right.

Right, I mean, it is what it is. It may
be a negative story.

So she, I mean, she would really have an uphill
battle to prove defamation, and that it is.

Very hard defamation. Could you got to prove that somebody
deliberately deliberately put out false information about you?
