Speaker 1 (02:53):
It means that it's the summertime and everybody's taking vacation,
and everybody's off except for me, and except for Martin,
and even when I'm off, I'm working. But it's all good.
We're great on this Friday to have you along, Martin,
and so much to talk about, and let's start here.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
NBA, you got that you want to Can you read
me the deal? The horrendous deal that Jalen Brunson just
took from the New York Next.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Horrendous is one way to put it. I don't think
that was in the breakdown of the news. I don't
think WoDES tweeted that it was horrendous. But it's said well.
Adrian Wodranowski from ESPN says, in a largely unprecedented financial
concession that give the flexibility to a contender.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
What was that? What did I call it? You said
it was horrendous, all right, that's what he said in
five words. I said it in one horrendous.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
New York Knicks star Jalen Brunston has agreed to way
four year, one hundred and fifty six point five million
dollar extension to his agent, Sam Rose of CIA tells
ESPN one hundred and thirteen million less guaranteed than he's
eligible to sieve next Now. The deal is a three
year plus one. A deal is a three year plus
(04:07):
one with the player option in year four.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Okay, Martin Weiss, I've been covering sports for almost forty years,
and I can't figure out players who take less money
than they were entitled to. It's dumb, It's it's absurd.
Do you know how much James Dolan, who owns the Knicks,
is worth billions? Two billion dollars two billion dollars with
(04:33):
a B and they're helping the Knicks do what.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Do?
Speaker 6 (04:39):
What?
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Win a championship? Is that what you're doing by taking
less money. There's a chance that Jalen bro I know,
nobody wants to believe it. There's a chance he could
be hurt right and never get another deal. There is
a real possibility.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Isaiah Thomas, who was with the Celtics, do you remember
that rush back to play in the playoffs for them?
Guess what happened, Martin? He got hurt, he was It
was in the MVP way of voting that year, got hurt,
never got paid. Still been trying to get back in
the NBA for the last number of years, And all
I'm saying is, come on, guys, stop doing this. Let
(05:16):
the teams do their jobs. Get what you're entitled to.
I don't see the Nicks saying because Jalen Brunts is
taking less money and leaving one hundred and thirteen million
on the table, we're gonna reduce price. Ticket prices at
Madison Square Gardens. French fries aren't gonna cost fourteen dollars anymore.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Martin, We're gonna drop them the seven.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Because now he gave a break to the Knicks so
that they have flexibility.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
All right, Patrick Mahomes did that.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Guess what did that keep Tyreek Hill there and some
of his pieces.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Now they won in spite of it.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
But they told Patrick Mahomes that if he did that,
they'd be able to keep the team together.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Well, the first thing they did to Tyreek kill.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
So when they tell you that they're going this is
gonna help the team flexibility, we're gonna go get other players.
Stop the Tom Brady story with the New England Patriots,
it's a fraudulent story. First of all, his wife made
more money than Tom Brady. Number two, the Patriots never
took that extra money. Martin named the big free agent
(06:22):
receivers that they got tom Brady. Only ever talk about
is they got tom Brady through the guys who worked
at Dunkin Donuts because they never got anybody. Ask all
the defensive players at the Patriots, like Ty Law and
some of those guys who never got paid. They use
up their ability when they were young and never got
their long term contract. And then that story on ESPN
(06:44):
had the nerve to say, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady and
Derek Jeter, you know, like a formula related their contract
so that the team could.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Do stuff the Yankees. There's no salary, there's no solid
house fall. That makes no argument.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
How is Derek Jeter's name in that story? Can you
stop it? So all I'm saying is this is a mistake.
This is dumb. This makes no sense to me. Players
should get what the market value is, stop trying to
save teams money.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
So I understand your point, but the idea that he's
saving teams saving his team money, I think is something
that we're missing here because what he did do is
he set himself up Now over the next three seasons,
he will be a ten year NBA VET. After those
next three seasons, he he will not be opting in
to year four of this contract, right, he will be
opting out and has a potential to be the first
(07:42):
million dollar a game player in the NBA when the
TV rights kick into the salary cap and it goes
up literally forty million dollars between now and two years
from now.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
That's what he ended up doing.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
And in the meanwhile, he kept the team out of
the second out of the apron, so they're able to
still maneuver and sign another big man because we see
that he's got his all his college teammates that he
won championships with in Bridges, the Vincenzo uh and the
rest of the Villanova kids, Josh Hart than the rest
of those Villanova kids. So I get where you're saying that.
You know, is he taking some big sacrifice? Absolutely for
(08:18):
I mean, forty million dollars over the next three years
has nothing to shake a stick at, right, But if
he has the opportunity to make all that back and
more in three seasons, and I get what you're saying,
about the organization. He could get hurt, he could do
Isaiah Thomas. Well, the dirty secret out loud is or
the quiet part allowed is Isaiah Thomas was never going
to get a max contract from the Boston But.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
He never got a contract because what I'm saying by
trying to help the organization, well.
Speaker 5 (08:43):
By coming back too early from the he should have
just like I hate.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
To well, but he was trying to help. He's trying
to help the organization. Point I try to.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
I don't mean to be smirch a guy for playing
through injury, right, I commend that. But the idea what
that Isaiah Thomas was going to sign the max contract
at the time. What I said, that's not what I
That's what I'm saying, he was never going to get
that max contract.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
About max contract, it's about helping, trying to help the
team when you need to take care of yourself. Here's
the other part, all right with that? Jalen Brunson, what
what story are they talking about? Jalen Brunson, Tom Brady,
Derek Jeter, and Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
How does he fit into that story? Martin? He doesn't.
He doesn't fit in.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
He's not even on that level with those guys doesn't
make any sent for a guy.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Like now when the Knicks continue to have success behind
this roster, because I think this roster is a top
three roster in the East, and provided that everybody stays healthy,
which is a big if, Provided everybody stays healthy, they
should be in competition in the Eastern Conference playoffs going forward.
It has been dark in New York for a while.
I think those lights are coming a little bit brighter.
But in three years from now, Jalen Brunston has a
(09:55):
not it's not even just a fifty percent chance, a
seventy five eighty percent chance that he'll be making eighty
one million dollars a year, which would be the first
million dollar player just about in the NBA.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Yeah, but if he took if he took the money now,
he would get that money if he still let player.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
My thing is.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Even in the even in the case of sho Hail Tani,
it's deferred, right, But he took the seven hundred million,
but he didn't. He didn't go I'm gonna wait, wait
a minute, let me take three years with the Dogs
and I wait for the new Baseball contract TV deal
to kick in or the new deal or to happen.
My point also is you think you know for sure,
(10:34):
go ask the San Diego Padres and some of these
other teams where Bally Sports is gone belly up and
some of these other things that sign these lucrative TV
deals that no longer in place, so.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
You don't Amazon.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
If ESPN, Amazon and NBC go belly up in the
next three years, then you're right.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Jalen Brunson made a terrible, terrible mistake. But my point,
i'm you don't know that. It's easy to say that,
but you don't know that.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
My point is why help an organization that can't get
out out of its own way. And just because you
save it money doesn't mean it's going to be spent
wisely or it's going to enhance you into winning anything.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
You're not guaranteed anything.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
I know that it's not cool to talk about the CBA,
but the reality of the situation is had he took
that contract, they wouldn't be able to do anything at all.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
His fault is that is that his fault on the Knicks.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
It's the fault of the Players Association for agreeing to
these ridiculous first and second aprons.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Well, they did that because the owners had them over
a barrel and the players weren't willing to fight for
It's a ridiculous thing. But Jaalon brust players that still
have no salary cap.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
Jalen Bruston ain't got nothing to do with that. He's
just got to deal with the rules of engagement that
are set by were set by Jalen Brown and Grant
Williams and the rest of the.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
When the owners start giving fans rebates and discounting food
and twenty dollars beers and all that talking about saving
the organization money and giving them.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
Flextions, not about saving the organization. It's about keeping the
organization out of these very restrictive restrictions that not with
the first and second aprin.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
He's in time, but he's entire I get that. No,
I don't know, Yes I do. I get that. There's
no reason everybody if they go into.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
The first and second aprin and this is the team
that there will have, there will be no ability to
improve your team. That's the That's what the reality is
that the Players Association.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
It's not it's the next that's that just it is
what are they supposed to do? Can't the Knicks going
to second aprin now owners worth two billion.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
He catch out about paying the tax about the second April.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
No, that's not what the whole set.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
The whole point of the aprons is to be to
take teams that want to just pay the tax and
punish them in other ways besides financial. That's why you
can't do sign of trades. That's why you can't pay.
That's why you can't do sign of trades. That's why
every trades make has to be dollar for dollars in
and out. But that's why your first round pick then
maybe frozen and kicked to the back of the first round.
All of those things are not necessarily financially related.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
James, don't look at absolutely pay the luxury tax. And
if we were still under.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
The same CBA that we were prior to now, then
I would be agreeing with you.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
No, but let me tell you what.
Speaker 5 (13:07):
You got to stay out of these first second aprons
if you want to have any flexibility to build your team.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
The Knicks, and that's the player's fault.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
But the Knicks are in this situation because of what
they've spent and where they are, and they knew that
they had to sign Jalen Brunson. All I'm saying is
they're fortunate because if Jaylen Brunton took what he was
deserved or what he should be getting. Remember, he came
over for Dallas for peanuts, and now all of a
sudden he's in a conversation about about taking less now
(13:35):
to help the organization, like Tom Brady, Derek Jeter and
Patrick Mahonmes.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
I'm not in I'm not.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
Having that conversation. That's not what I'm talking That's why
I don't give it good. I don't care about Patrick
Mahomes or Tom Brady. That's what they're talrying about. That's
what the story talks to talk to the guy and
the story because that's got nothing to do with the
first and second apron. There's a hard cap in the NFL,
and what the second apron does that effectively acts as
a hard cap in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
That's the players.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Yeah, but that's also you gotta be able to work
with inside that framework.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
The Knicks agreed to that as well. That's why he
took that's why he took less money now to be
on the back side and take the rest. No, he
did this salary cap.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
The Knicks agreed to play under those rules, so they
need to be the ones that take that brunt that
shouldn't be on Jalen Brunson to help them.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
That's my point.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
The Knick sign that agreement as well, and they just
the Players Association and now.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
Players Association should not have agreed the to this situation
in the first day play.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
But the owners this is the rules that they want
play under them. Knicks, don't ask Jalen Brunson to do that.
You play under them. Those are what you wanted.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
Nobody would be crying in three years when he's an
eighty million dollar game player.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Eighty million dollars, Hold me in three years, let me
know how that turns out. Eight seven to seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven, seven, nine nine six sixty
sixty three sixty nine, Jalen Brunson takes less money to
help the Knicks out.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Where are you on this? I think it's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
I think players should never, ever, ever, under any circumstance,
take less money than they're entitled to.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Period. Your job is not to help the front office.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Your job is to play basketball or play your game
and do the best you can.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Well, we want to hear from You eight seven, seven
ninety nine on.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Fox, It is The Odd Couple Rob Parker and Martin
Weiss in for Chris Bussard.

Speaker 7 (16:02):
Yeah, but instead of us telling you how great we are,
here's how Dan Packrick described us when he came on
our show.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
What are you doing interrupting our promo?
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Yeah, it wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally out of context.
Speaker 7 (16:18):
Oh yeah, Well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Let me put this into context. Shut up.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Polly Antoni Fosco Show

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Yea, it is the couple on a Funky Flashback Friday,
Rob Parker and Martin Weiss in for Chris Brussard coming
to your live from the tirerack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Don't forget.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
We're gonna talk with Clarence Hill Junior on the Fort
Worth Star Telegram.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Coming up, but.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
First your phone calls eight seven seven ninety nine. On Fox,
Jalen Brunson did the Knicks of Solid. I'm against players
doing organization solid. Give me my money.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
That I have worked hard for and deserve. It's a
little disagreeable.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
So it's a little bit more complicated than doing the
organization a solid.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
You know, the rules are such that it makes it sense.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
And again, three years from now, when his dad is
still on the bench and he's you know, been playing
in New York, he'll be big time paid. But let's
go to Jay in Atlanta. What you got man, you're
on the eye couple on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 8 (17:23):
Hey, how's it going on?
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Man?
Speaker 8 (17:26):
Okay, I'm gonna be quick about it.
Speaker 9 (17:28):
Rob.
Speaker 8 (17:28):
Give them every ounce, give them every bit of fire
and brimstone because they're descending the indefensible period. The difference
in the argument is simply when Rob makes his argument,
he makes it and makes it flat. Martin, everybody who's
saying what you're saying has to have a caveat. But
but this, but that, oh in three years, right, guaranteed?
(17:51):
We ain't guaranteed. It's literally it's just indefensible. I'm not
gonna be super derogatory. But you got a guy. The
owners are not giving any money.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Back, no zero.
Speaker 8 (18:03):
You take every bit of the money and I'll leave
it here. Get so tired of this narrative that Tom
Brady didn't take the money. He took his big payday.
He actually you know how many guys didn't get it.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
A lot of other players on the Patriots didn't get their.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
Pay It's familiar on yourself with the second and third apron.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
And see how that goes.
Speaker 8 (18:22):
Last thing, let me say this last party stop. See
that's what I'm saying. You keep on explaining this apron.
Speaker 9 (18:26):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 8 (18:27):
Everybody knows the rules.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Give me my money, yes, if everybody knows.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
And you know what, and Martin, here's what he leaves out.
The owners who now are asking for help. They set
up the rules. They set up the rules that handcuff themselves,
and now they want the players to bail them out.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
Hell no, hell no, exactly.
Speaker 8 (18:50):
Can I say one last thing, Wob You're the only
person who is brave enough to say, and I commend
you on this. You're the only person who is brave
enough to say, my homes is not chasing brave because
Brady has cheating and his ship.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Thank you. There it is eight seven seven ninety nine
on five. Got your cheerleader calling in. I mean, don't.
Speaker 5 (19:09):
People, because it's not the butt. It's just a damn
rule made. I'm sorry that I understand the rules. It's
like you can't go red all. You can't drive through
a red light. That is just the way it is. Yes,
you can't arget a ticket.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
It was an argument. You can't can get a chicken.
It was an argument.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
If you want to have this argument, it should have
happened when they were doing the negotiations for the extension
for the CBA.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
That's where it should have been. Dre and Michigan. You're
on the eye couple of Fox Sports Radio Straight five.
Speaker 6 (19:33):
What's going on, Fellas?
Speaker 8 (19:35):
How you I'm good?
Speaker 10 (19:37):
I'm good.
Speaker 9 (19:37):
Hey, Martin.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
I'm sorry, but I got agree Robin on this one. Dude.
The owners made up that rule.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
You saying the players agreed to it, Dre, that's how
the players association agreed.
Speaker 9 (19:46):
To Who made it up?
Speaker 3 (19:48):
Who made up? That's a different convent. They had the moment.
I'm sorry, Drake, go ahead? Did the players go ahead? Drey?
Sorry Drey?
Speaker 10 (19:57):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
What I'm saying was the players the player di'd agree
with it. But that's they came up with the rule.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
Thank yousic.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
The basically, the billionaires are saying, hey, I need you
to take less money so I can make more money. Yes,
that doesn't you know that's that's that's not right. The NFL,
doesn't NBA do it. You got to get these guys
for all you can. Why you can't because if he
to acl up or you know, God would be it.
Speaker 9 (20:19):
Thank you here, what do.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
You think they gonna say, Oh, were gonna get another
hundred and thirteen? You know what I'm saying, go ahead,
you're good. You know we owe you that, no child,
Hopefully he did what for them?
Speaker 1 (20:27):
And you know what, And then on the other side,
you see baseball with show hald Toddy Game seven, hundred
million dollars, and they.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
Asked that would be able, that is, to take more
bout oranges. Are not because where's the seven hundred million dollars?
There's no cap, but they're not. But now, what are
you getting paid? What you getting paid right now? No,
they're not getting paid seventy seven million dollars and your dad's.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Gonna get every dime of that morning.
Speaker 5 (20:48):
But they deferred it because you could do that, baby
and baby the Basketball Players Association took notes from Major
League Baseball Association and then we can have that conversation.
But they didn't. It's not like you getting paid seventy
seven million dollars a year right now. It's not true.
Leo in New York, you're on the couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 10 (21:06):
Leo, Rob Parker, Martin Wise, my Leo brother, what's up?
I'm gonna make it three for three?
Speaker 9 (21:14):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (21:14):
Rob?
Speaker 10 (21:15):
I agree with you on this one. You know, when
I saw a report earlier this week, I thought it
was a joke or I thought he just said that
to when gracious himself with the New York media, but
actually doing it taking a picat like that, when first
of all, your rookie contract was it all that because status.
Then he took a packer to come here from Dallas.
This is your first opportunity to actually make real money.
(21:36):
Now we're going to be recituation. You know, the qualifier
only three three years. Maybe it's gonna make it, but
it's not guarantee. This racket was a guarantee. Big deal
of the opportunity that he had. And as a Knicks
friend one hundred person, Nick Finn, I'm honestly I'm puffled
of him doing that giving dollan uh with discount. Pretty
(21:57):
much owners made that row there wanted I mean the right.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
They wanted it to do. They wanted it.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
Okay, I mean everybody is to take a second and understand, no, no, no, no.
If the NBA's Players Association theyn't agree to this, damn rule, no,
because y'all acting like I'm op toose and y'all don't
know the damn rule. If the NBA Players Association did
not agree to this, you know what we could be
doing right now.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
They could be on.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
Strike holding out for the deal that with the better
deal to make Strengthen your players association.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
If you want to get paid like that, that's the
best way to do it.
Speaker 5 (22:29):
That's why there's no guarantee contracts in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Okay because the Players Association is whack.
Speaker 5 (22:34):
Now no, because y'all keep talking, but Buddy's not given
dolling a discount. They have this conversation with Jalen Brown
and Grant Williams because they're the ones that mess this up.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
And you know what, and and the Celtics, we just
saw them.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
They got two seventy million dollar players and they're asking
Jalen Brunton to give the Knicks a break so that
they could sign all the people or doing.
Speaker 5 (22:54):
The Celtics are hurt in the second aprin They like
their team and they'll be able to do whatever they
want to do.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
But that's the people that you need to have this conversation.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
It's disparaging Jalen Brown and the idea he's giving James
dole In a discount.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
He's helping them.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
He's helping his own team after he made them, after
he helped make the rule James the NBA players, well,
the players agreed to it, and that was dumb. No,
the only thing dumber is then going to help them
after they made a rule to stifle you from earning my.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
Players should have never agreed to it. You can't be
mad when players agreed to it. You know, they just
can't be mad about it. Come, I can't be mad.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Coming up next, we're gonna talk with Clarence Hill Junior
from the four Worst Star Telegraph. He covers the Dallas
Cowboys and having a big All Star party down in Dallas.
Coming up, we'll talk about that, but first, can we
turn the volume down or with Martin White so that
we can hear Steve just saying, hey, hey, hey, somebody's
a little too jacked up today.
Speaker 5 (23:51):
I don't know, Steve, no one has ever heard of
them CBA before sports.
Speaker 11 (23:54):
Steve me thinks that does protest too much.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
You know, Steve, this is it. It's like.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
Being loud doesn't make you right correct, and especially when
three out of three and the other host undressed Martin,
he's still yelling and nobody undressing.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
I'm sorry, Steve. I just write the CBA. I know
that's a nerd thing to do. I just write the
CBA and.
Speaker 11 (24:16):
General comment about collective bargaining in general, this sport and others.
When something's in the CBA, it's collectively bargained. It's like
people complaining about no testing for juice for steroids in
the nineties. With baseball, it's because the players and the owners,
both sides didn't collectively bargain it. They're both at fault.
(24:38):
If you hate that, thank you, that's all.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
Thank you.
Speaker 11 (24:41):
It doesn't matter who came out, they both right.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Go ahead and check. And my point is is that
that the Knick's owner, right and management now asking for
brunts and to help them on a rule that they
helped to create, to put.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
In to make it harder and sibility.
Speaker 11 (24:58):
But I did Brunson spot. Okay, it's collectively Bart.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Thank you, Steve, that's all. It's almost like they agreed
to it. No, they signed it before they got into
the union. Miss the point. Let's Steve gous.
Speaker 11 (25:08):
Fire and trookie pitcher Paul Skeens is going to start
the All Star Game for the Nationals.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
I got said yesterday. I'm sorry.
Speaker 11 (25:14):
The Man six and oh Yer Ray one point nine
to zero Tuesday night on Fox TV, Texas will host
the All Star Game. For skiings so far this season,
about sixty six innings, eighty nine strikeouts, and only thirteen walks.
The Dodgers have lost four in a row, and they're
losing it. Detroit tonight, three to one Tigers in the
top of the fourth and Tigers Ace Trek scoobl is
(25:36):
on the mound with a ten and three record. The
Phillies have won three in a row, but they've fallen
behind at home to the Oakland A's three to one
Athletics bottom of the third. Yankee scoreless at Baltimore in
the top of the second. Yankees Orioles on FS one tomorrow,
and the Royals have a two to nothing early lead
at Boston top of the second inning. At Wimbledon, Carlos
Alcarez won his semi final in four sets. Ludwig Oberg
(25:59):
leads the sky Outish Open by one stroke. Jalen Brunson
agreed to a four year extension with the Knicks, Utah resigned,
Johnny choosing, and there are three w NBA games tonight.
One Olympic note for US women's soccer. Lynn Williams added
to the roster for an injured Katerina Maccario out with
a soren Ee.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Back to you all right, Steve, thank you appreciate it.
It is the odd couple.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
On a funky flashback Friday, Rob Parker along with Martin
Weiss in for Chris Broussard, and we're broadcast alive from
the tire rack dot Com studios. Are we ready with Clarence?
Speaker 3 (26:34):
All Right?
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Clarence Hill Junior, of course from the Fort Worth Star
Telegram has been covered to Dallas Cowboys since nineteen ninety
seven and knows all things Dallas Cowboys. Clarence, Welcome to
the odd couple and allow Martin Weiss, how are you?
Speaker 9 (26:49):
What's up? Man? What I don't know is playoff wins
or Super Bowl success?
Speaker 1 (26:54):
There you go, that is for sure, no doubt about.
Before we get to some how boys stuff real quick. Uh,

Star Game, the Midsummer Classic is coming to Arlington, home

Speaker 3 (27:11):

Speaker 9 (27:16):
Yeah, man, it's the big, big All Star weekend here

right now, missing because I'm on this phone with you
and I'm missing all that because you know, you know
I can still step back to you can.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
I know you can?
Speaker 9 (27:44):
You know you got you got. Kurt Franklin is going
to do the national anthem you got the bands with
some prayer view in Texas Southern. They're going to do
a Battle of the Band before the game. Because a
big weekend kicking off tonight and tomorrow night, I do
have an all star game your party co host kids
coach Sponster by my man Rob Parker MLB bro.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Hey, can't wait, Clarence, can't wait, man, I'm looking forward
to a lot of people.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
How can people get tickets if they want to come
to the party?
Speaker 9 (28:16):
Shoot? Uh my face, Well, Clarence E.
Speaker 10 (28:19):
Hill Jr. This go to my Facebook pas good tickets.
Speaker 9 (28:22):
It's also an event price. Go to the event right
and look up MLB Media Party House Blues in Dallas.
Speaker 8 (28:28):
You should be able to find it there.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
You go, all right, appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
I can't wait. I'll be there tomorrow with bells on.
Let me ask you Cowboys off season. A lot of
people have payned the Cowboys in their off season.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
Did they get better or not.
Speaker 9 (28:43):
They not get better.
Speaker 10 (28:44):
That's that's the thing.
Speaker 9 (28:45):
You know, they're expected to do better. You know, I
called it from the Cowboys season on the brink. You
know you got Mike McCarty the last year's contract. You
got Dack Pripcott in the last year of his contract.
I got Ceedee Lamb right now, the last year of
his contract. He had the entire coaching staff one year deals,
more than twenty players contract describe at the end of
the season and their charge with doing better something they
(29:08):
haven't done since nineteen ninety six. They need to get
the NFSE Championship Game or the Super Bowl, and they
did nothing after they devastating lost to the Green Bay
Packers to get better in the offine.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
So basically is this I mean, so you got all
these guys on the last year of their contract, like
you just outlined, who do you expect, if anyone, to
be able to re up with Jerry and the Cowboys
prior to this season or is this just gonna be
a lame duck season for everyone?
Speaker 9 (29:36):
Well? I would say this that the Cowboys Jerry Jones
will never let anybody go. He wants to keep you know,
and I think the deadlines make deals, and that's always
been their motto. They ultimately have to pay more than
they want to pay. Right now, they don't want to
pay a lot, but they'll have to pay to the market. Ultimately.
I think they do it. We'll keep Dak and CD
and get those guys done, but right now they haven't
been done. Matt McCarthy whole no story. He's gone twelve
(29:59):
total and by very successful coach one as many games
as anybody outside of adding the reader of the last
three years. But he needs a playoff success.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
And talk about playoff success.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
What about Dak Prescott and is this going to be
approving year for him as well? And do you expect
him long term to be the Cowboys quarterback?
Speaker 9 (30:19):
Well, I expect Dak Prescott to be the Cowboys quarterback.
And I love when people call it a proven year.
The guy had his best year ever last year. He
led the NFL in touchdown past he's been a second
in MVP voting, and you're telling him he needs to
prove his thirty years old.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Well, but they haven't you given him a contract.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
Most guys with those numbers and what you're talking about
would have a deal, would you agree.
Speaker 9 (30:39):
With that, as I tried to say, earlier deadline to
make deals, and at the end of the day, I
think they'll get something. Dont with Dek. They don't want
to go into the quarterback abyss of not knowing who
that quarterback is going to be in twenty twenty five
and beyond. Dak Prescott is a franchise quarterback with the Cowboys.
He's an elite quarterback. He's wanted to ten quarterback in
the NFL.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Can win the playoffs.
Speaker 9 (31:01):
He has not won yet. But I'll tell you what,
only Patsrill Mahomes, only Aaron Rodgers, and only Stafford had
won Super Bowl titles. Of the current court of in
the Bello, no one else has won. And that's all
that matters. You know. We want to move the gold
posts and all the other stuff, all the thing that
matters to do in titles, and nobody else has won.
(31:24):
So DK is in the same boat as Josh Allen
and everybody else who has or Riglers right.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
Now ed tootall Jones Cowboys legend said essentially that every
general manager in the league should be trying to pick
up guys that get cut from Super Bowl teams and
put him in the locker room, and he kind of
made the point that the Cowboys were having trouble in
the playoffs over the last three seasons because they didn't
have guys that already had Super Bowl rings.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
What's your take on that, Clarence.
Speaker 9 (31:53):
I mean, they don't know how to win, There's no
question about that. I mean they've done everything they do
in the regular season. They don't know how to win.
They don't know how to get it done. They got
to find a way to get over that hump. There's
no course about it. And not just Da Bruscott. You
would say the same thing about Michael Parsons, who was
one of the best backwords of the football, say the
same thing about Ceedee Lamb the entire team, and you
(32:14):
go back, and that goes back again every inter ration
of the Cowboys since ninety United six. They have not
found a way to win. That was the problem with
the Tony Romo teams and all those other teams. They
don't know how to win the playoffs. Somehow they got
to break that glass, Singlings. That means going to get
somebody else call Brandon Cooks has done it, you know.
But but again, you need your core players better do.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
That last thing.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Michael Parsons and the podcast gate and teammates are saying
that not make sure you got your other business in
hand before you worry about a podcast and all that
before you go, or you do that or where or
are you on the podcast?
Speaker 3 (32:51):
And and players doing it.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
And I know he says he does it on his
off day, but it just seemed like a distraction.
Speaker 9 (32:57):
It's not a distraction, you know, you know what your
old remember when Lawrence Taylor had a lot of distracts.
You always remember Michael Irvin had a lot of directors
off the field. You know, their coaches put up with
you know why, because they won and the Cowboys win.
We're not talking about Michael Parkers.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
What the Cowboys haven't won and Michael in that playoff
game was nowhere to be found.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
I mean that's the issue.
Speaker 9 (33:20):
I agree. So when you don't win, everything gets pointed out,
everything gets scrutinized, everything that's under a microscool. I tell
you this, if everybody on the team played their positions
where the MCA partners played their position, would we wouldn't
have this conversation. The guy again you could talk about
when he did the Super Bowl, I mean the playoffs.
He's still three years in the league, has as many
(33:41):
sex as anybody the first three years of the league.
This in the top three in the NFL if defensive
player at your belly each of the first three years
of the league. He's only going to get better. You
need more MACA Parsons, not less.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
All right, there it is.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
His name is Clarence Hill Junior from the fourth Worst
Star Telegram covers the Dallas Cowboys, one of the best
in the business.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
I will see you tomorrow night, my man in deub All.
Speaker 5 (34:04):
Right, Claire show step too hard man out there, do
the que don't break your back?
Speaker 3 (34:08):
There is he going? All right? All right? Coming up next?
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Uh Paul Skenes being named as an All Star starting
pitcher for the National League. Pretty impressive for a rookie.
But it's not the first time it's happened. Plus a
little Shekel city, so you know what you need to do,
stick and stay.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
I like it, Alex.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
We're broadcasting live from the tire rack dot Com studios.

for Czecho City.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Two.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Shekel City the whole base for Rob Parkers, Dalley Dicks
against the scrap.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
All right, here we go sheekeel City.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
My best bet Rangers Astros in Houston. I'm gonna take
the over in this game over eight runs Texans. I
mean Rangers and Astros over eight runs.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
Game two, I'm gonna take.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
The Washington Nationals and the Milwaukee b and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
What am I doing here? I'm looking at these teams.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
Milwaukee minus two and a half runs hosting Washington, and
I'm gonna take the White Sox minus one and a
half runs hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates that game as well.
So again, best bet over eight runs Rangers and Astros.
I'm gonna take Milwaukee minus two and a half runs.
(36:15):
They're hosting the Nats, and the White Socks are in
Chicago minus one and a half runs they host the
Pittsburgh Pirates. And remember, I'm not telling you who to
bet on. I'm telling you who I bet on. All right, Mark,
we got some Baseball All Star news. I told you,
mam my way to Arlington for the All Star festivities.
(36:35):
You know, the big HBCU game is going on tonight,
and then the Futures Game I think it's Sunday, and
then Monday is the Derby, and of course the game
is on Tuesday. Paul Skens is starting for the National
League's name the starter six and oho tremendous start a
rookie only eleven starts. You know, people could say, maybe
(36:59):
Baseball got it right, got it wrong, A big time
star who they've put on center stage, who has been incredible,
Or is this too much to Chris Sales also had
a great year for the Braves.
Speaker 5 (37:11):
No, I'm fine with him, especially when you consider the
the juice that the name Paul Skeins has behind it.
Right now, as you know what, he only been in
the minors for one year, comes up and he's been
dominating the only time. The only way I'd have a
problem with this is if, and I don't think anybody
would ever actually admit it, is if Derek Shelton were
to say that the manager of the Pirates, yeah, I
(37:32):
pulled Paul from a potential no hitter because we knew
he was going to start in the All Star Game.
That would be the one that that would be the
only thing that would like, I would be upset about
when it comes to this. He's not the first rookie
to start the All Star Game. And I think when
you're looking at the youth movement in baseball with thirty
four new All Stars, our first time all.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Yeah, it's a youth movement without question.
Speaker 5 (37:52):
So I think when you're when you're putting your your
sport on, you know those All Star weekends, they're supposed
to be one of the biggest showcases of the talent
in your game. This is a great way for America
to be introduced to all these new players, especially Paul Skins.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
And you know what it happened before, which was very
I remember when Mark the Bird Fiedric in nineteen seventy
six for the Detroit Tigers. You know, he was talking
to the Baseball he had a style all his own.
That guy would wind up being he only had he
had a short career because he had injuries. But he
was an All Star seventy six, seventy seven, Rookie of
(38:31):
the Year that year in nineteen seventy six.
Speaker 5 (38:33):
And I mean, and Paul Skins will like that. I mean,
it will have to be something dramatic for him not
to be Rookie of the Year of this here.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
And do you know Mark Fidrich, it was incredible.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
He didn't have that many starts either, like eleven, came
up late and wound up being the All Star starter.
And I think when there's special guys like this, they
should jump ahead of the line.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
I'm totally fine with it. Not in every situation.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
I know last year some people want to de la Cruz,
you know, to go to the All Star Game, you know,
with fifty at bats or whatever. It was seventy five
on this belt. It's a bit much. It's a bit month.
That's a stretch. This is not a stretch.
Speaker 12 (39:11):
I'm all behind him, and he right, he had two different,
two different situations where he had six innings scoreless right starts,
like six indings with no base runners type stuff, like,
he's doing stuff that we haven't seen before, not before,
we haven't seen it in a very long time.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
So let's go ahead.
Speaker 5 (39:29):
Put him on the biggest days, put him on the pedestal,
and then introduce this new young star to America.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
If you're Chris Sale or you know, you're a little
because Chris Sale is probably gonna be comeback Player of
the Year, are you a little you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (39:43):
He's had a tremendous year for the Braves as well.
Speaker 5 (39:45):
I wouldn't be I mean, how mad can you be
about not getting I mean he's not He's not an
All Star, right, right, He's still on the roster. He'll
still pitch in the game, provided that the rotation makes sense.
He's not, you know, over you know, pitching on two
days rest, three d addressing like that.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
So we'll still see him out there.
Speaker 5 (39:59):
He'll still get his moment, he'll still get his whatever
bonuses he gets in.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
This contract for being an All Star. I can't imagine
he's not worked up about it. Yeah, especially guy who's
been a multiple time All Stars.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
But you know his record this year, right, I mean,
Paul Skins is six and oh right, Yeah, Chris Saale
twelve and three with the under three yard right two
seven four, that's pretty impressive. In the most years, he
would be the guy. He's gonna be starting the All
Star Game.
Speaker 5 (40:24):
Yeah, I mean nothing, not this is you know, it's
what flavor ask me, like better vanilla or strawberry?
Speaker 3 (40:29):
You know what I mean. It's not this isn't you
can't lose here.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
Yeah, No, I think they got it right. I think
he's been so lights out and so electric and and
so uh. All of his stats and the things that
he's doing. All the pictures, pictures that are in the
same breath and the same stats are all all time
great pictures. So you're the Strasbourg Good and Carrie Wood.
(40:53):
You know, you start to look at that and you go,
this dude is doing something that only the elite elite
have wound up doing. So absolutely, it's kind of great
that baseball decided to make this happen. All right, our
number two coming up and Jalen Brown, guess what is
doubling down? You know what you need to do, stick
and stay America
