From Salama of course the fourteen years? How many years
did you?
Speaker 6 (02:27):
Teen? Thirteen years?
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yea offensive lineman.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
Take fourteen. If you want to give me an extra one.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
In the NFL, you probably won't get any extra benefits.
Speaker 8 (02:34):
The way today roll just another seven to fifty a
months from invention.
Speaker 6 (02:38):
Yeah, here.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Seven fifty okay, how are you excuse me?
Speaker 6 (02:44):
Seven and fifty one dollars?
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Okay, curry nice? They pay you in.
Speaker 6 (02:48):
Singles coin coins?
Speaker 1 (02:51):
How are you?
Speaker 6 (02:52):
What's good man? I'm chilling man. It's good day. Kids
back in school this week. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 8 (02:57):
It's all get It won't make any sense. It's not
even real August. It's early August. It's ridiculous school. I
just don't understand.
Speaker 6 (03:05):
Bothers me.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
No, right, it doesn't bother It doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
In New York when I was growing up, you come
on the last vacation right, Labor Day, weekend was all
in and then boom September it starts to cool down.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
You're not hot in school.
Speaker 6 (03:21):
Still the summer right, ninety eight degrees outside.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Makes no sense. What kid is going to class?
Speaker 6 (03:27):
They're miserable.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
They're miserable.
Speaker 6 (03:29):
Miserable?
Speaker 1 (03:29):
My right, like what it makes that?
Speaker 6 (03:31):
IM saying?
Speaker 9 (03:32):
I was in school too. It was after Labor Day.
Everybody was patrick. When did you go back to school?
You're younger than us?
Speaker 2 (03:38):
No, it was about after Labor Day too.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
It was a uniform.
Speaker 8 (03:42):
The money, having more school days, more money for teachers,
more money for administrators. It's all a money grab. And
I'll tell you like this, like I don't have a
regular job, so I don't have a nine to five job.
So the only reason I'm getting up at six forty
five is to get them up, get them ready, and
(04:03):
take them to school sixty five.
Speaker 6 (04:05):
I'm mad. I'm mad. Well, I gotta get them up.
Speaker 8 (04:08):
They got to wash their face and you know, eat
breakfast and get themselves ready to be productive student.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Kids don't take baths or showers every morning right through
in the morning night.
Speaker 6 (04:17):
We don't go to sleep sleep, We don't go to
sleep dirty. We don't do that.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Oh, so you take it.
Speaker 8 (04:21):
Yeah, you can't go out in the whole day and
bring the whole day in it and then get in
the bed. We're not doing that. It's a black family, man,
I don't. Yeah, And we use washcloths, just FYI, I
gotta use wash class. A lot of people don't use
wash class. Not a lot of people take showers two
maybe three times a week.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
No, no, no, that's two showers in seven days.
Speaker 6 (04:44):
I'm like, well, are you just sitting at home?
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (04:48):
Or are you out in the world.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
No, you're out in the world. You're touching stuff is dirty,
all right, I just.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
Want to throw that out to a lot of people
out of that going on.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
I got you. All right, let's welcome into the couple
of cool.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
We wouldn't be able to do this fine radio program
without him. Alex, of course, is our engineer. Don't forget
Tyster's Tower of Trivia coming up in the third.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Hour from Do Not Worry.
Speaker 6 (05:06):
I do shower every day, and I also use the
wash glasses.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Very nice, very nice. Patrick is our producer.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
And for Rob g who's on vacation, and of course,
mister Steve de Sager, who is without question, the best
update anchor on Nashville Sports Talk gait and I'll say
it every time.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
And I don't care if he blushes.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
I don't care if he's like I can't believe Rob
says and and and Steve knows. Anybody who knows me knows.
I don't just pass our compliment.
Speaker 8 (05:34):
I know I've been waiting on one for about five years.
I'm holding my breath.
Speaker 9 (05:40):
Take a little Bret, right though, Rob see, Steve Disager
is like the Michael Jordan.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
He won't tell you he's the best.
Speaker 8 (05:44):
He's not like Lebron He's the best.
Speaker 6 (05:46):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yes, he just does a great job. All right, let's
start here.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Russell Wilson will make his debut his day bud for
the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, right, and uh, Mike Tomlin,
coach of the Steelers said, Mike Tomlin says he will
play as long as the calf thing doesn't bother. You know,
there's no issue there and he's gonna play. And there
are a lot of people obviously Justin Fields because of
(06:15):
the calf injury, got a lot more reps the first
team and got to play. And people are like, well,
maybe they should go with Justin Fields, And I'm not
in that camp. I'm like, if you're the Steelers and somehow,
and you notice Ephraim, they've been able to somehow be
five hundred with no quarterback basically the last four years,
(06:38):
I mean, just awful quarterback play. And now you got
a quarterback who went to back to back Super Bowls,
who won a Super Bowl and last year with Denver,
I'm not saying he was an All Pro, but he
had a pretty good year for me, did he did?
And they can discount it and he never do more
than ay over eight yard, didn't whatever you want to do.
(07:02):
All the numbers point that he had a good year,
and they started up with what he did before. So
I'm if I'm the Stealers, and I went out and
I got him first, and then Justin Fields became available,
because all you needed to do was give up a
couple of tackle dummies and a bag of balls and
you could have Justin Fields. Nobody seemed to want a young,
(07:24):
athletic running quarterback with a lot of upside. It was
shocking that nobody, because everybody needs a quarterback. Half the
league needs a quarterback. But even I'm asking you, where
are you on this?
Speaker 8 (07:36):
If you're pinning number one? I would love to just
start off the show disagreeing with you. All right, get
those prickly gray hairs going. You know there's plenty inside
for that. Yeah, but you're absolutely right. If Russell Wilson
is healthy, then he should be the starting quarterback number one.
Mike Tomlin. The Steelers franchise, they're not in the business.
(07:58):
Oh we're just going to sit back. We're going to
uh see how this thing goes. They're in the business
of winning.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
They're trying to win. Now, you see that Pittsburgh is.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Just trying to enough with the eight and eight or
a nine and eight or whatever, enough with that.
Speaker 8 (08:13):
They're trying to win now. And I believe based on
the sample size of both, it's not even a sample
size for for Russell Wilson at this point. Best both
best on the career, the career of Russell Wilson, I
would lean towards him being the start, not lean towards
(08:35):
I would make him the starter because he's had ultimate success.
He's won the ultimate game. He should have won too,
should have won two. Not his fault, No, not his fault.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Because that that that ball shouldn't have been thrown.
Speaker 6 (08:46):
Forget what we know what that is. We know what
that is.
Speaker 8 (08:50):
But although I am a fan of Justin Fields, I
think he got Delta a tough hand going to Chicago
and the roster they had in you know, two three
years of them not doing anything to really improve that
roster that get to help him out, as well as
having the right offensive coordinator there. I think that hampered
(09:10):
his development. But right now for the Steelers, they're not
looking to take on a project. They're looking to compete,
and a division that's deep with talent and quarterbacks, uh
and so they're going with the proven commodity, UH until
until he proves you can't play right and and that's
(09:31):
what you do. You don't do it the other way around.
You don't go in with someone who hasn't had the
level of success, hoping and wishing they have success. All
of a sudden, you go with the proven UH commodity,
which is Russell Wilson. And they're really trying to make
a run at this thing, no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
I mean, they wouldn't have gone after him if you're
if you're rebuilding, or you're saying, well, we're not there,
you know what I mean, and let's get justin fields
and maybe develop into that guy we want. And because
we're two years away or a or a year or
two away, then it makes total sense.
Speaker 6 (10:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (10:07):
But when you go right after him. They wanted him,
they knew what they wanted. They wanted him, and so
they went after him. They knew he could come in
and offer stability at a position that they had not
had stability in uh since Big Ben retired two years
(10:28):
too late. But nevertheless, Mike Tomlin isn't in the business
of rebuilding because normally, when you rebuild, there's a point
where you're under five hundred or you're picking early in
the drafts and all of that, and they haven't had that.
So he's really looking to compete in this division.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
They're expecting big things that we already know that they've
have a defense and all they they have the pieces, right,
All they needed is a very good quarterback. He didn't
have to be doesn't have to be great. Great, can't
be bad, right, you can't be bad, And that's what
they've had and been dealing with as time goes on.
(11:13):
But there are other people who think justin fields, as
you said, got the raw deal in Chicago, was given
a bad Pristrami sandwich without mustard and mayonnates on its
all right, So he had that so he couldn't excel
and couldn't perform as well.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
And now they're saying, well, now.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
With these pieces parts, here's a better opportunity.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Let him play.
Speaker 8 (11:38):
No he's not right yet. No, no, no, he's not he's
not ready yet, because what you want to do is
you want to hit the ground running. You don't want
to hit the ground uh with a we'll see what
happens type of attitude.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Can you imagine if they went with him lost the
first two or three games, right right, there's nowhere to
go at least you know with Russell, and he can
lose the first two or three games, but it comes
out and he's owing for then you can make it
say then we know he's okay, all right with all,
We're not going back to Russell when I go back.
Speaker 8 (12:09):
We're just gonna ride this out and address this this
h depending on how Phil's play plays, will address the
issue at the end of the season in the draft.
Uh so, I look Mike Thomas in there, like, look man,
I'm not throwing the towel in And he's been he's
very been, very upfront and very honest and open like
(12:30):
he always is when he's talking to the media about
what's going on at the Steelers. Look, man, he's still
of the adage we're going to put the best eleven
on the field no matter what. And to argue with
that's that's the only way you can go. If that's
your argument with with fans, are with upper management or
(12:52):
and they don't bother him, they let him run his team.
Uh that then you're going to say, hey, look, I'm
putting the best eleven. I don't care who making what,
who's what year, whatever, the best eleven, both sides of
the ball are going to be out there. That gives
us the best chance to win and to fight in
a division with an MVP in it, with a young
(13:16):
quarterback who, if stays healthy, he's only gone to the
AFC Championship and the Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
Right, So now you're you're this is the division year.
Speaker 8 (13:24):
You're fighting in this division with the Cleveland team, also
with one of the top defenses in the league.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
It's over exactly, no doubt, all right, eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six
sixty three sixty nine. It's real simple. If you're the Steelers,
where are you going? Is this Russell Wilson's team or
do you think that they should be bold? And I'll
(13:54):
give you the other example real quick. We saw with
the forty nine Ers and Jim Harball. Yeah, they had
Alex Smith, he was he was their guy. They were winning, right,
and they saw Colin Kaepernick show up and they made
the switch. And what happened They went the three NFC
championship game, ed a super Bowl. Yeah, so it has
(14:14):
been done. Yeah, but have they seen no I'm just
look out there. But have they seen? But I'm an
example right in practice? They know, we don't know, they know,
they know, all right? Eight seven, seven ninety nine on
Fox It's a TV theme song. Thursday Here on The

Speaker 11 (15:54):
Right?
Speaker 6 (15:54):
I love it now?
Speaker 1 (15:56):
This theme song was a real song.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
It wasn't a you know, it was in the theme
song made for the TV show Steve de Sega who
made this the.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Uh it's a rock group.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
I can't the Avengers, but they made this song and
they used it for the TV show Hawaii five. Oh
all right, it is the I cup on a TV
theme song Thursday. Coming to you live from the tire

(16:53):
seven seven ninety nine on Fox. And our question is
very simple. Is it about Russell Wilson or Justin Fields?
If you were to Pittsburgh Steelers, who are you going
with at quarterbacks?
Speaker 8 (17:06):
Let's see what the people think we got, Dennis from Akron,
you only a couple with Ephim and Rob what you got?
Speaker 12 (17:13):
Well, it's great to hear one of the great set
of related to Wilson. Are you are one of the best.
Speaker 6 (17:18):
Thank you, brother, I appreciate that.
Speaker 12 (17:19):
And Rob it's always pleasure to talk to you, my friend.
I have a Stevens Officionato over fifty years and it's
very simple. You go with Russell Wilson. The man's been
in two Super Bowls, should have won both Super Bowls.
He is a veteran, he's got the experience. That's what
you go with.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
It's a no bra I think, so right, yeah, yeah,
you're absolutely right, Dennis, go ahead.
Speaker 12 (17:42):
And rob By the way, that was by the Ventures.
It was number four in nineteen sixty nine.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
That's it the Ventures, right, I know its man, Dennis
very good and I was like, I know that that
was a regular song, and what a theme song it
turned out to be for a wi fi oll I
made a lot of money over there, no doubt he's Dennis.
Appreciate you, Dennis, thank you for nine on Fox.
Speaker 8 (18:04):
Oh we got a big one here. We got Shack
in Virginia. You what you got?
Speaker 3 (18:11):
What's dirty? What's good?
Speaker 9 (18:13):
Rob?
Speaker 1 (18:13):
How are you Shack? What's up?
Speaker 3 (18:15):
I'm doing all right, man? But yeah, I'm a big
I'm a big Field supporter man, even going back to
Ohio State. But I got to be honest, man, I think, uh,
eighty five percent of his issues is just like this
quarterback feeling like anticipatory skills. I don't think it's catching
one as quick as as it should be. So you
got to go with Russ And to be honest, man,
(18:37):
the only way I can see Field is really making
the day is if Brush stinks it up and he
comes in and hits the ground running. Because what's gonna
stop him from getting the quarterback next year? That's five
years younger without the option and all of that stuff. Like,
you know, he's really in a tight space. So man,
he's really got to work when he gets tent. I
wouldn't do it.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
We won right.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Yeah, it makes total sense.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
And if he does get a chance to play and
he doesn't play well, they can move off of him.
Speaker 8 (19:05):
Yeah, and I think it puts both of these quarterbacks
in a position to where they gotta show up and
show out.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Right.
Speaker 8 (19:13):
They're both in the exact same position, a little bit
further on the career spectrum, but they're they're both They're
holding the same cards in their hands.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
No doubt. Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, we
got one more, We got Brady and Ontario. You're on
the odd couple with Robinie from what you Got.
Speaker 13 (19:30):
Weapon, You're one of the all time breaks in the
NFL history. And oh speak, wait, wait a.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Minute, work wait all be quiet, let Brady speak? Man, Okay,
what what NFL? Will you relax?
Speaker 8 (19:41):
Man? Rob is a hater? Brady, I appreciate that compliment.
Now go ahead with with your comment.
Speaker 6 (19:46):
Okay, I know, I know.
Speaker 13 (19:47):
It's TV sing song on Thursday. So how about the
then came Bronson scene song. I don't know if you
ever remember that, but I'm seventy one years old. That's
why I remember it.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Hey, Hey, Brady, I'm gonna tell you this.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Do you put me on to one of the all
time great theme songs, which I had never heard until
you mentioned it. And this might have been when you
were listening to my show in Detroit. I'm not even
kid you because he lives in Windsor, Canada. And you
brought up Branded, which was, uh yeah.
Speaker 13 (20:15):
Oh yeah, I was. I was nineteen sixty five and sixty.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
Seven and Seck Connors after the Riflemen, did this show
called Branded where they thought he deserted.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
His uh remember the militants, what is it?
Speaker 2 (20:32):
The school right, and everybody got killed and and so
he had to go around proving himself that he was
the cow.
Speaker 13 (20:40):
And it was yeah, yeah, I know, I was. I
was socctball. Then came Bronson Michael Parks nineteen sixty nine
and seventy. That seems but anyway, Uh no, I think
you have to go with Wilson. You know, he's been
in two Super Bowls one morning. He had a pretty
good year despite the disrespect he was saidered season by.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Sean Payne, total disrespect. It was really bad.
Speaker 13 (21:05):
Fields might not be quite uh you know, recovered from
his horrible Chicago experience. Now I want, like, if Wilson
is really bad, really go on for Phisis or something.
Then I can see putting fields in there. But I
think you have to give it to Wilson for this year.
I wants he's really bad and open it up to
(21:25):
a competition for next year. So that's my opinion about it.
Nice talk to you. We're happening.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
He fang you, Brady, appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
Thank you so much. All right, Coming up next on
the odd Couple, we're gonna talk with Jamie Harris. He's
the sports editor of the Amsterdam News in New York.
Catch up on the Yankees and what's going on with
them and Aaron Judge. We know had the big night
last night. We'll do that for first. Let's get you
caught up with mister Steve de Sager. Steve, did you
remember Branded or No? That show? Yeah, Chuck Connors, who was,
(21:59):
of course a baseball player.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
He played for a Chicago Call.
Speaker 6 (22:03):
He was like, man, I'm twenty seven years old, Brandon.
Speaker 11 (22:06):
Might be thirty seven, but okay, sure, yeah, all right.
You mentioned the Yankees. Orioles are half game behind the
Yanks in the Al East. The Orioles are down one
nothing at home to Boston in the top of the
fourth Phillies out to a four to nothing lead on
Washington in the bottom of the third. The late game
will be on FS one in a half an hour.
Twins at Texas Today, Milwaukee with three runs bottom of
(22:28):
the eighth, beat the Dodgers six to four. Oakland trailed
the Mets five nothing early but beat New York.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Seven to Such a bad loss.
Speaker 11 (22:34):
There it is, and the Mets have an actual chance
for the postseason this year. Detroit over Seattle two to one.
Boy no offense for the Mariners this year, and San
Francisco shut out Atlanta six to nothing. To the NFL exhibition,
that's singular, there is only one tonight. It's late first
quarter at New England. Philadelphia have three nothing on a
forty two yard field goal by Jake Elliott. I don't
(22:57):
know if you saw the ending of the Eagles opening
exhibition last year weekend. They got Elliott out there in
the final seconds for a fifty yard attempt to win.
It was tied thirteen all and it hit the upright
no good, So they bring in the offense for the opposition.
First play sack fumble, no get the ball right back
kick a forty nine yard field goals on if this
(23:18):
was regular season, they would still be talking about that.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Oh yeah, and you know how many gamblers probably put
their foot through the television Are you kidding?
Speaker 6 (23:26):
Bad? Beat Well on the odd Couple?
Speaker 11 (23:28):
If I may quote Oscar Madison from the old TV series,
that's why they.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Call it gambling.
Speaker 11 (23:34):
No doubt, no NFL games tomorrow. Most NFL teams will
be playing this Saturday reminder Sunday night on Fox TV
New Orleans at San Francisco. The Falcon sign free agent
safety Justin Simmons one year, eight million dollars. The Vikings
say wide receiver Jordan Addison's ankle injury will not keep
him out for an extended period of time, but Bill's
(23:54):
linebacker Matt Mulano will miss at least a few months
with a torn by set back to you.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
I stay appreciate it is the couple on a TV theme.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
So on Thursday, Rob Parker and Ephram Salam And for
Chris Bouchard coming to you live from the tire rack
dot Com Studios. Our next guest covers New York sports.
He's the sports editor of the amsterdamn News. A friend
of mine, Jamie Harris. Jamie, say hello to Ephram salaam.
What's up, buddying good?
Speaker 6 (24:26):
I'm good man. How you doing doing great?
Speaker 13 (24:28):
Great?
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Let's talk New York Yankees baseball, because they've turned the
season around.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
They've done a lot of things, but let's start with.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Aaron Judge, who last night it is wait a minute,
are we good? We got you? Okay, hit his three
hundredth home run and became the fastest player in Major
League Baseball history to get there, almost one hundred and
thirty two games, sooner than Ralph Kinner and then also
(24:56):
ahead of Babe Ruth as far as at bats, So
he did it in both levels, at bats and games.
How surprised are you, considering Aaron Judge injuries, all the stuff,
that he was able to make this happen and become
the first, the fastest of three hundred.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
You know, but I don't know if it's surprising, but
it is highly impressive. And you just gave some of
the historical comparisons, and to think that, you know, as
a Yankee, uh, he's exceeded Babe Ruth, who still is
viewed as the greatest Yankee of all time and one
of the greatest players and certainly the first player who
usher in in baseball the whole run prior to Babe Booth,
(25:37):
you know, the teams won't hitting home runs, players weren't
hitting home runs. But he did his baby booths also
after the dead ball ever, so let's let's make that clear.
So so you know, it's just amazing to see what
he did. And Rob think about this. One minute. On
April twentieth, Aaron Judge over four with four strikeouts in
Yankee Stadium and was being booed by boo.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
The hell I remember that, Yeah, I remember that boom boom,
boo the hell out of him from he was at
the time.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
He was bat at one seventy nine and his OLDBS
was slightly under seven hundreds. And he just shrugged it
off and said, you know what, I've heard worse. And
he was right because since that time he has been
the best playing baseball. Obviously, show hi Otani out there,
he's been amazing, but Aaron does since April twentieth, since
that time, he has been the best player in all
(26:26):
of baseball.
Speaker 8 (26:26):
And he looks good too. Let's talk about Juan Soto.
He's up for a new contract and he turned down
over four hundred plus million. Four hundred Now this is
the twenty six year old turns down over a four
hundred million. Do you think he can get to that
number that we saw show Hey get to or how
(26:47):
close do you think he can get to that seven hundred.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Well, that's a great question to remember. Before he turned
down the four forty, he turned down three fifty from
the Nationals. He's been betting on himself and winning. There's
no question Jyan Soto is going to approach those numbers,
particularly because he's only twenty five years old. So if
we want to look at it from a standpoint of
his age and at ten to twelve year contract, which
(27:13):
he's certainly going to come in and get, that's the
great investment. Wan Soto has proven that he is one
of the best players in baseball, want of the best
lads in baseball, and he still hasn't reached this prime.
So I don't know if it will be seven hundreds,
but he's going to get six hundred plus. And I
will say this, Jan Soto has fit in perfectly with
the Yankees. I mean, he has become a fan favorite.
(27:35):
You know, the guy has an infects his personality. The
fans have just just embrace them, you know, as someone
who they clearly want to be part of this team
long term, and to pare him with Aaron Judge. The
problem is as a team in Queens right, the richest
owner in baseball, and Steve Cohens the Mets, well going
(27:55):
to I believe outfit the Yankees, I really do. And
so I just think it's going to be a matter
of how much they will oft be the Yankees vine
and whether Soto says that, you know what, I just
want to remain a Yankee. But let's keep in mind.
Speaker 8 (28:11):
And look and you read my mind because it's why
you are who you are. Because my next question was
if it's if it's six hundred A, is he staying
with the Yankees? And you just dipped into that. Hell,
I wouldn't even mind. I wouldn't even disbelieve he'd be
out here. That would be a it would be unbelievable.
Our guess is Jamie Harris. He is the sports editor
(28:33):
of the Amsterdam News in New York. And Uh, let's
go here too. Uh.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
And there's another You talked about the fans, but in
the Bronx, the Dominicans love this guy.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
He's Dominican.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
A lot of Dominicans that we know, Jamie in New
York live in the Bronx. They they live in at
Yankee Stadium. They're flying the Dominican flag. I mean, you
don't have that kind of crowd in Queens. It ain't
exactly the same that there are no Dominicans and Queens.
What Jamie, am I wrong about the Yankee stadum, the
Bronx and the love from the Dominican Yankee fans.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
No, absolutely rob And remember Yankee Stadium is only miles
away from Washington Heights, which is really, you know, the
largest Dominican enclave in New York City. It is the
cradle of Dominican culture in New York City. And so
Juan Soto has obviously, uh just energized, you know, the
Dominican fan base. I have a lot of you know,
(29:31):
friends that are Dominican and they just they're just looking
at him, man with such pride. And he's in turn reciprocated.
He has shown that he wants to be in New York.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Man.
Speaker 5 (29:41):
The dude goes up there, hangs out, goes to restaurants,
gets his haircut. He's really become part of the fabric
of the New York community and the fans love that
you know New York fans no matter where you're from,
you know Rob, you notice better than anyone you You know,
you're one of the legendary New York sports fighters. If
you come to New York and you want embrace the
fans and you embrace the culture, it doesn't matter where
(30:02):
you are from, They're going to embrace you as being
one of them, as being a New Yorker. And already
Soto has to be set status and so I think
that will play a part and whether he does be
signed with the Yankees. But again, you know, money is money,
dough is dope, And if the offer that the Mets
put forth is significantly higher, then I think that's really
(30:24):
going to be a strong determinant. But as of now,
I see one Sodo staying with the Yankees, and I
think Al Steimer and the Yankee decision makers would be
crazy not to sign a twenty five year old who
is on a Hall of Fame track and who for
the next seven eight years should be it shouldn't remain
one of the best players, at least the best hitters in.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
The game, no doubt. What about any update on Jazz Chisholm,
who started with the Yankees. He had four home runs
in his first three games after being traded from the Marlins.
Scooshed up to line up the energy with the Yankees,
and then he got hurt. Have we heard anything, Will
he needs surgery, Will he miss the rest of the
year or that's still up in the air.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
I think they're trying to, you know, hold off an
advert Jazz having surgery right now. There hasn't been any
statements from the Yankees or any indication that he will,
but that is certainly the option. And I think if
he does have surgery and he's out for the season,
that's going to be a huge blow to the team.
(31:29):
Because Jazz Chism came in and he gave the Yankees
something they were lacking. You know, he's a dynamic base runner.
He's tied for ninth in the league and stolen races
at twenty seven, and he's someone that can go from
first to third with the Yankees have lacked the years,
you know, they if I remember their home run hitting team.
In fact, the Yankees and Orioles are tied for the
league leading in a whole months with a hundred and
eighty six. Jazz brought a different dynamic and also he
(31:52):
plays all over the field. You know, in a recent doubleheader,
he played center field, the second game he played third base.
Jazz Schism became critically important to the Yankees in that
short time. And so you know, you can only hope
as a fan, you know, you can only hope that
done he doesn't need surgery, that he can come back,
But right now it's still uncertain.
Speaker 6 (32:11):
Look, Jamie, I'm not a huge baseball fan.
Speaker 8 (32:15):
I got into it about five years ago when I
started coaching my sons in Little league. But what I
can respect is is a rivalry. And this season when
we had the Dodgers and we had the Yankees series
over the weekend, I was enthralled. I watched every game,
every pitched I was, I was.
Speaker 6 (32:37):
I was in it.
Speaker 8 (32:38):
Now, I can't be the only one in the world
that wants to see this matchup in the World Series.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
How big would that World Series be?
Speaker 5 (32:47):
Well, you know you're talking about and that would be
huge because you're talking about two teams. You know that historically,
obviously the Los Angeles Izes go back to Brooklyn, you know,
who have had that rivalry. You know, they back to
when they both played New York and after you know,
when they met the World Series, and of course, you
know the great World Series between the Dodgers and the Yankees.
They really are, you know, two of the pre eminive
(33:09):
franchisers in baseball. And so I think and again it's
La and New York, you know, the two big markets.
So I think everyone are coming into this season. You know,
obviously the Dodgers were considered to be the favorite to
win the World Series and the Yankees were one of
the favorites to get for the World Series. So I
think from the beginning of the season, this is what
people were expecting. This is what people were hoping to see.
(33:30):
Now do this what's the vibe out there? Because right
now the diamond Packs and a pose said Dodgers next.
Ye And even though you know, if we look at
the standings, the Dodgers a time for the second most
wins in baseball, but you have the other teams. It's
like the Yankees and Oils are battling that are right there.
So the racers are compelling side of the fans, you know,
(33:50):
their little nervousness out there with the Diamondbacks forty games left.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Yeah, yeah, people out here because people thought the Dodge
was going to run around away with it. Now, that
is a race, and it's not just a race with
one team, two teams, There's no doubt about it. But hey,
Jamie Harris, we appreciate your insight. He is the sports
editor of the Amsterdam News in New York. Check them
out on the web. And Jamie, thanks, appreciate you.
Speaker 6 (34:14):
Jamie so doing, thank you all right?
Speaker 2 (34:18):

Spread and from tonight. You know, Thursdays get away days.
So all the games have been played earlier. There's only
one game left that hasn't started on this Thursday, and
that is the UH Texas Rangers are taking on the
Minnesota Twins.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
They're hosting them in Arlington, Texas tonight.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
I'm gonna take the Minnesota Twins minus one and a
half runs, and I'm gonna give you a double dip
I'm also going to take the over in the runs
which is over eight. So you got two options here
Minnesota Twins. That's right, minus one and a half and
also the over eight runs total for both teams.
Speaker 6 (36:41):
What about the second half of the preseason game?
Speaker 1 (36:44):
No? Do you bet during up?
Speaker 12 (36:47):
No?
Speaker 2 (36:47):
You don't bet.
Speaker 6 (36:47):
I don't bet.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Have you ever put it on the bet only when
you were playing?
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Right?
Speaker 1 (36:52):
I'm just trying to get from you bet with it.
Speaker 5 (36:56):
In here.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
I'm just trying to try to see if I could
get you to spud know.
Speaker 8 (37:00):
I know, don I do bet with Brian all the time,
all the time. But what do we bet?
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Bat wings?
Speaker 6 (37:05):
We bet candy bars? Okay, you always win too, I
do always win. I know what I'm doing.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
We talked with Brian Nofielder the other day.
Speaker 8 (37:13):
I know I was on there with him. How about
that's why you were on there? Like he said, I'm
a purveyor of truth. I am a truth seeker.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
Is that what you're trying to do?
Speaker 8 (37:22):
That's what I asked you. Look, man, you ask it,
I'm gonna give you to give it to you straight man.
That's what I do.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
That's kind of like me.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
That's what I've been doing well, I don't know what,
not quite sure. Forty years.
Speaker 8 (37:34):
No, that doesn't count. Well, I mean you've been talking
for forty years, not quite sure. In the truth, forty
years all right, So Dak Prunscott is talking to it.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
He says good things are happening in his contract talks
and negotiations.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Is that the truth is?
Speaker 6 (37:51):
I mean in terms of but you.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
Know, Jerry always rolls over.
Speaker 6 (37:55):
He does.
Speaker 8 (37:57):
And I'll say this, Dak may feel comfortable with the
talks because no matter what, he's gonna get paid, whatever
that number is he wants, whether it be Dallas or
somebody else, he knows he's going to hit that number.
And so the thing that really keeps him at ease
is before his last big contract, remember he had the
(38:18):
brutal ankle injury, and so he was kind of like, oh,
I'm not going to.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
A lot of people didn't think he should have been
out there at that point without a deal.
Speaker 6 (38:26):
But he got the money anyway.
Speaker 8 (38:28):
So now he's not even worried or the risk of
injury could sidetrack what's going to happen contract wise. So
he's just out there playing free. He's literally playing with
house money if you can call forty five million dollars
house money, because he knows he's going to hit that
sixty plus a year number next year, whether it be
from Dallas to somebody else.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
I'm gonna call Jerry Jones here. Used to be a
black wrestler, do you know wrestling at all?
Speaker 5 (38:53):
Y'all?
Speaker 6 (38:53):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (38:53):
Special Delivery Jones? You know who that is?
Speaker 6 (38:55):
You ever hear of him? That's before your seventies.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
That was the eighties, the seventies, I'm not that all.
Speaker 6 (39:02):
Was it?
Speaker 8 (39:02):
W W E R W W F W W S okay,
so I w W are you?
Speaker 3 (39:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (39:08):
Okay? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (39:09):
Coco be Ware and saw Jim Duggans, you remember all
that man.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Before they had to switch over the Yeah.
Speaker 8 (39:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
And do you know why they had to switch over
because there was some other company that had that right.
It was the they had the rights.
Speaker 6 (39:26):
It was what it was a world.
Speaker 8 (39:29):
Why like uh, World Wildlife Feration, the Federation or something
like that like that, and they had they've had it forever, right,
and they pushed and said, hey man, you'll get out
of here, right and they had to give it up.
Speaker 6 (39:41):
They did, of course.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
And and so there was a guy SD Jones like
one of the few black wrestlers. That's the kid growing
up and st Jones, they the same script. He's winning
the entire fight from it, I swear, I'm not even.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
The entire fight. And that's why I compare him to
Jerry Jones.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
And it always he'll have the guy down right pinned,
the referee's about to go one to the other guy
rolls over on him and the referee goes one, two, three,
and he will lose every single time. And Jerry Jones
always acts like, oh, we'll see you, We'll do whatever
(40:22):
we And remember he did it with Ezekiel. Remember he
said Ezekiel who after Pollard, had a great game in
a preseason game, and then he made Ezekiel the highest
paid running back contract ever. So I don't believe in
Jerry Jones for standing his ground. I think he will
roll over. All right, coming up, this is gonna be
(40:43):
interesting to hero because you're a guy from southern California
out here and I think I got some breaking news.
I think Aaron Judge is more exciting than Sho hail Tani.
Want to talk about that coming up next, all right,
it is the odd couple on a TV Things Song Thursday,
(41:06):
he from Loves Baseball
