Carrie carry Now you gotta drop two by the way,
you gotta truck Carrie twenty five roads for Carrie. All right,
Carrie Man, how you feeling today on this beautiful, funky
flashback Friday.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
Brother, beautiful long long day so far. I've been up
since five o'clock doing my good deeds around LA. Did
some mentorship earlier, went to a career day as well,
and so yeah, I'm here.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Ready to go.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
It's been it's been a beautiful day, beautiful morning. Yeah,
I tell you, I saw I saw you post something
on Instagram. What's funny is you don't know we were
on the same type of vibe with your suit. I
had that a similar tan little make Obama. Everybody's mad
because Obama water tan suit. I had that on this
on the news this morning too, So we kind of
had the same vibe going on today.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Of course we did. Of course you already know. You
already know. I send it to you just to see this.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
We might have to be if we have a case
we need to drop a nineties R and B group
on us, We need to drop an album on them.
They can be ready for that. I wanted to start
here with you, Carrie. We got the Masters going on. Obviously,
it's the the big tournament. Everybody's watching it down there
in Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
And right now you got Justin Rose who is the
leader at eight under.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
You got Bryson Deshambeau seven under, Roy McElroy six under,
so on and so forth on down the line. Scottie
shuffler right now, who's still playing. He's at five hunder
as we are getting closer to the weekend portion of
the Masters.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
But you been keeping up a little bit, just keeping
an eye on it at all. No, no, no, no.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
I just saw it for the first time when I
walked in, and I am glad to see that Rory
is bouncing back from his turmoil during the couple weeks
ago when he had the encident with the fan. Looks
like he's focused and ready to go. He's sitting in
third and right there in contention. So you know, I
do know quite a bit of those guys, just through
passing and hearing about them through bigger tournaments. When somebody

(05:08):
else's plan that will reach will we'll kind of touch
on a little bit.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
But outside of that, No, man, have you have you
been locked in?

Speaker 4 (05:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Just you know, like obviously where I work and doing
news every day, we got thirty TVs you know throughout
the building right that are always up and you got
it up there, and we got sportstation in the building.
So where I work at Spectrum News, one in the
building is also the Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
We also have the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
So just the sports side of the building where they
keep us abreast what's going on. So yeah, keep it
in a little bit. But here's where it's interesting. You
say that because it leads me to a larger conversation
carrier that I was interested in having, and you'd be
also the perfect person to have. And Rob and I
have kind of talked about this a little bit throughout
the you know, our time together as well.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Yeah, and that is one you just mentioned. A bigger person.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
You said, you know, you're not keeping up quite like
you did when a bigger person was a part. I'm
gonna jump out on the limit say that bigger person
was Tiger Woods.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
You know, I'm no genius.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
I'm no genius, but I would imagine that's who you're
talking about. And the powerful thing about anything having a
Tiger Woods like person, as you know, whether it be
a sports league, whether it be Essay, it's the lead
actor or actress in a film, is that it brings
in the casual fan. You know, it brings in the
person who's all right, well, I you know, I'm not

(06:29):
fully a golf fan, a baseball fan, a hockey fan,
a movie fan, whatever, but such and such as in it.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
I gotta keep it up in that regard, and that's
I'll give you a couple examples.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
So if you weren't the biggest baseball fan in the
summer of ninety eight, well, when Sammy Sosa and Mark
maguire were doing their thing chasing the home run record,
everybody was stopping. You might not even care, but you're like, oh, baby,
hold on, that's that market Mickey Mickey, Mark Mickey, Who
is that with a dude?

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Yeah, him, he's up to bat. Let's watch. Oh da
se mesels to the black guy. Man, he's Dominican.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Well he's black today, like you know, people and people
were watching because of that.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
And I think that's one of the things here we
are where.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
You got some stars and Roy McElroy, you got Justin
Rose of course, some names that if you're keeping up
with sports a little bit, Scottie Scheffler as well, you
know some of the names Phil Mickelson, of course. But
it's it's not the same as when Tiger was there.
And so this is a conversation I was thinking about today.
I was like, man, I talked to my guy Carrie
on one end, how bad do you think golf misses him?

(07:33):
Just the excitement just a casual fan, just the must
sy just to walk by the TV and I gotta
stop because he's up, he's teeing off.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
I got to see him make this putt on the green.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
The popularity, the social you know, the late part of
his career, kind of the social media end of it
as well. And then also me and Rob have talked
about you thought you'd get a boom specifically with black players,
not necess Necessarin, and I think you can attest there
was a there's been a boom when it comes to
the recreation end of golf over the last twenty five

(08:06):
years because of the popularity at Ticker, A lot more brothers,
a lot more people of color, a lot more communities
who maybe weren't out there on the golf course, who
maybe didn't feel represented on the golf course that didn't
necessarily feel welcomed. There was a boom recreationally, but we
didn't get that boom care we thought we would get
on the actual course when it comes to players to
stars in the game, and I likn that to what

(08:27):
we saw at the Williams Sisters. We got the Naomi
Kasaki's right, we got the Cocoa Golf's the Madison Keys.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
You can got a point to it, and I'm the
only name in a few There's more.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
You saw the residual effect of that on the actual
tennis market as far as professionally, So just your thoughts
on thought we could see more of a boom when
it comes to actual persons of color playing the game professionally,
being stars in the game, and then also how much
he's missed or someone like him when it comes to
helping broaden the game and helping people be interested who

(08:59):
aren't necessarily.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
Yeah, I think it starts at the house, right, it
starts at home. I think the bigger picture that I think,
the bigger scope of this picture right now is it's that.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
And I think that's what's missing.

Speaker 5 (09:12):
Right with Tiger, he was introduced to the game by
his father, right, so have been that parental figure, that
person in your life that kind of introduces you to
something that you know, maybe you weren't interested in at first,
but you kind of get that glimpse of I want
to be like him, I want to be like dad,
I want to be like the friend, the mentor, and
then you get into the game that way, and then

(09:34):
obviously you start to love the game and get better
at the game, and then next thing you know, you're like.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
I'm Tiger Woods. I can be Tiger Woods.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
I think that's the part that's being left out of
this discussion because it's easy to talk about the race
part of it. And I think the race part of
it is a part of it because not too many
black fathers in South Central are introducing their kids to golf, right.
I mean, it's not flashy, it's not considered fun. A

(10:02):
lot of times there's quiet on the course, Like just
the discourse around it is a little bit slow and
a little bit quiet for you know what I mean, like.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
The bit on Kansas County, let me should be I'm
a grown man exactly if I'm all the way down.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
The street exactly.

Speaker 5 (10:22):
But I think that's the part of it that's missing
for you know, for for the black community and in general,
right like to be introduced to it. That's how we
always got our sports right as kids, like somebody around
you that you admired or wanted to be cool with,
played football, basketball, maybe even baseball, which is still kind
of lacking as well, but they liked it and then

(10:43):
all of a sudden, you take it. You took a
liking to it. So then you go to the next
part of that, and it's Tiger had a great had
great success during this time. There were a few sprinkled in, uh,
people of color that played the game and played it well,
you know, go go outside of the African American culture, right,
VJ saying, So, yeah, like those type of people were
in it and were really good. But I just don't

(11:05):
think it was exciting enough or it wasn't being introduced
to our communities enough for us to really really take
a liking to it outside of being casual fans of it.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
You know what, also, I think too, and you can
get ready to join in on this A seven seven
ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
I do think right as maybe there would have been
another boom as far as continued growth and popularity. A
couple other things happened too, right, I think UFC starts
to become a thing more, right, and you start to
get more fans in that, you get more people into that,

(11:37):
you get even just more athletes. That's that's a very
diverse group of athletes when it comes to UFC. I mean,
you can see a little bit of everything there. So
I do think that may have played a role in
it as well. And then just to the boom of
social media taking all of our attention period, not even
necessarily from to another sport, just consuming us in ways,

(11:58):
becoming streamers right because coming online influencers.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
And so I think that man played a role as well.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
But again, as I was keeping up with it a
little bit, watching seeing what's going on, seeing the scores
in the scoreboard, and I was thinking, like, man, this
is you know, if Tiger who you know, got injured
and it keeps hurting himself and pretty much is you know,
not gonna be He's no longer gonna ever be what
we got a custom seeing, like, man, the game misses him.

(12:25):
Just from that standpoint, I was like, man, I wonder what,
you know, do they feel that as well, not necessarily
the athletes, but golf as a whole, Like, man, we
still need that star that resonates. You know, we have
the conversation in the NBA Lebron is gonna be leaving
steps out of here in a couple of years, Kad
the old Guard and Westbrook and hard Who's gonna be

(12:46):
the face of the league. And I wonder if golf
continues to feel like do we have a face of
our game now or is it just gonna be through
a multitude of people. I'm wondering how they plan on
attacking that, right.

Speaker 6 (12:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:57):
You know what's crazy about golf is I don't know
if it needs that that megastar. I mean, it's it's
the tradition of it all and the way that it's
carried along throughout this process. I mean, they've obviously had
stars in their mixed up and intertwined during this run,
but right now it's I think the parody is is
a really good thing for them as well.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
I mean it's a good point. Yeah, think about it all.

Speaker 5 (13:20):
I mean, right now, the top three rows Deshambo and Macklelroy, Right,
we know those names. You know you got Sheffler, that's
a little bit down. I'm looking at it as as
it's as it's on right now, and I think the
idea of not knowing who's gonna win it will continue
to draw people, draw likes, draw views. But as far
as it being like I guess popular in the culture,

(13:40):
that's I just don't know it.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
This is the game, you know what I mean, Harry,
ain't nothing like a Sunday with Tiger wearing red. I
don't give a dam what you're doing. I agree with.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Tiger wearing red is the reason why Rod Parker is
single now Carrie, Okay, he.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
On his honeymoon and she's like, oh babe, what do
you want to You want to hang out? You want
to do this? Baby? Hold on? Tiger's on? Come on?
How are you gonna ask me to do something right now?

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Hey?

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Did you want to go walk the beach and hold aans?

Speaker 1 (14:08):
No?

Speaker 6 (14:08):
Way? No?

Speaker 7 (14:09):
How?

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Why is that on a red polo?

Speaker 6 (14:14):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (14:14):
Man?

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Eight's there you go, Alex eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Just
your thoughts as far as Tiger Woods is concerned, and
really golf as a whole, is it still needing a
star or two?

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Is it in a great place?

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Maybe you feel to carry's points to a great place,
and year in, year out, event after event, you don't
know who's gonna win, and maybe that adds.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
The allure to it where you don't know.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
I'm a moral believer that you kind of need those dukes,
if you will, you kind of need those Michael Jordan
and the bulls in the nineties.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
You need that Steph Curry and the Warriors.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
You need a little Patriots to make people love or
hate you or still want to watch the Kansas City Chiefs.
I still think you need a little bit of that,
but could be wrong. Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Want to hear from you again, just this is just
your interest level of where golf is and also if
they're you thought there'd be a bigger boom and diversity
of players. If you've eed to ask you this in
nineteen ninety nine, year two thousand, what Tiger was right

(15:11):
on the rise of his apex. There with your thoughts
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, We'll do that.
It is The Odd Couple, Kelvin Washington, my man carry
Rose and for Rob Parker on a funky Flashback Friday, Alex,
I'm gonna do it for Rob one time stick and
stay if you also think Tiger Woods could ruin your
relationship in the USA Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
It is Fox Sports Radio, the Odd Couple that's right
on a fucking flashback Friday, kelvin Washington, Carrie Rose and
for our guy Rob Parker, Carrie twenty five rolls for
him on social media, k doub Live for myself and
Odd Couple FSR.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Feel free to reach out to us. Hey, Carrie, don't forget.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Coming up, we got Jovan Booja of the Athletic covering
the Lakers, sees the senior reporter there. We're gonna talk
some Lakers and NBA action with him. Then we got
Adam Kaplan coming up next hour around five thirty Pacific
time be eight thirty on the East.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Adam Kaplin's come home.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
We'll talk some NFL stuff as there's a couple little
bit of news there and Core get closer to the draft.
So looking forward to having those conversations. Right now, we're
taking your phone calls. We're talking about golf. Of course,
we have the Masters Day two and just getting your
overall thoughts on where the game of golf is. And
again I brought the idea that Rob and I had
talked about before. We thought there'd be maybe more of

(16:39):
a boom a person's of color, specifically maybe black golfers
on a professional level.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
I think there have been a boom.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Carry agrees when it comes recreationally, but maybe not so
much when it comes to actually seeing folks participating in
big tournaments.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Like the Masters, and then are you all in?

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Do they need another face or is the group of
guys they have where it can When anybody can win
weekend week out, is good for the game. Taking your
calls right now, we're gonna go out to Patrick and
Oklahoma City. Patrick, So, man, you're on with the odd
Couple Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 7 (17:10):
Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. I think this
conversation is really important and really interesting and also very nuanced.
I think one thing that we should consider when talking
about diversity and golf, and specifically golf and at the
higher levels too, is just the barriers to the access

(17:31):
in terms of being able to go out and practice that.
You know, it's not like football. While you need is
a ball for golf, you meet you know, the time,
and access to country clubs and what have you. So
I think maybe that might help explain some of the
reason why we don't see as much diversity despite maybe
the increased interest that you know, Tiger didn't bring to

(17:53):
the sport all.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Right, you know what I want to say this to you, Patrick, Thanks,
thank you for the call.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
And Carrie, this is the conversation you and I were
having as we were kind of preparing for the show
earlier today. It was that it is a nuanced conversation.
It's not as simple as just you know, brothers don't
want to golf or the golf a litter. It's like, no,
there's a lot to it. And Patrick touched on a
couple of things there. I mean, what makes soccer the

(18:19):
biggest game in the world.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
You know why?

Speaker 1 (18:21):
You can roll the ball out. It ain't got to
be the best ball. Somebody didn't have to go to
Dick Sporting Good and get the best. Just roll out
a little round ball and we can all work on
our game and get better. You know why baseball is
so popular and some of the Latin American countries because
they if you see these young kids, they literally hit
the ball with a stick on a wall, and they're
amazing in some places, and they get get skilled. You

(18:43):
don't have to have all the best equipment, you don't
have to have tea times, you don't have to be
a part of a country club and he bring up
something where there's the access to ease. Right, everybody, every
country can put up a basketball rim and you get
one ball, and I can have twenty five kids out there,
ten playing at a time, another group waiting to be
you know what I mean.

Speaker 5 (19:00):
Yes, golf is a different it's a different thing, one
hundred percent. Yeah, No, I think that's that's an excellent point.
That's one thing that again, like we said, very nuanced conversation,
and I'm glad that he threw the the the affordability
out there because it is it is an issue. And
I think it's the same with tennis, right where you
have to go be a part of an academy or
something to can really get better. Obviously there are courts,

(19:20):
and you know you can. You can get to a
court and get a couple of rackets and go out
and hit the ball, similar to what you're saying with
the baseball part of it. But to get known, to
get seen, you're gonna have to be in one of
those exclusive clubs or maybe go to college. But that's
still later on down the line. So it makes sense.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Yeah, all right, take another call here again, that's the
eye couple carry rose in for Rod Park. We're gonna
go to Andre in Massachusetts.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Andre. What's up, Dre? You're on with the A couple
of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
Hey, how you doing. Thanks for taking the call, listen.
I agree there are some barriers to entry when it
comes to golf, but we do have diversity. We do
have Harold guns third, who's backed by Michael George. You know,
there are efforts. You know, is it gonna be Tiger
Will it be a super nova?

Speaker 2 (20:01):
No?

Speaker 4 (20:01):
But there's my point is that there's efforts being made
and by the game of golf to address the issue.
And then beyond that, Yet I think that golf moves
a supernova. We need a north star, somebody who people
can identify with cheer four route against so Rory McElroy,
Scotty Scheffler, Brooks Koepka. I'm looking for one of these
guys to step in and up and win multiple majors

(20:24):
in a year. So I think golf is in a
good state. But again, you're not going to have that person.
People tune in when Tiger Wood's play good bad, are
indifferent even in the ministrate that he's in right now,
and that's something that golf is going to try to
have to build up in the years going forward to
be back to where it was.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
Andre Andre quick question, you're still there? Yeah, Do you
see any of those guys you name being able to
be that guy.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
I'm looking for Shoddy Scheffler, he's been, he's had it,
Brooks Kepta had had a good run a couple of
years back where he won multiple in a row. So
I'm looking for those two guys and Rory McIlroy as well,
who has the talent to give us some consistency at
the top, the leader boarding the call.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
It's so hard, Thank you, Dre and you know carry,
it's so hard to nobody can necessarily replicate what Tiger
did because the part of it was the winning. It
wasn't just that he was, you know, uh, a person
of color, a brother out there. It wasn't just you know,
the red shirt. It was the winning and the dominance.
And it's the reason why Patrick Mahomes is loved and
now he's hayed. He gets all the calls from rest.

(21:23):
You gotta start winning a lot. Steph Curry was a
cute babyface assassin splash brother. Then he became annoying and
he throwing He's throwing his mouthfeet. You know, when you win,
all of that comes with it. We'll take one more
before we get to Jovann here, we'll go to uh
let's go to McKenny out in Ohio.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
McKinney, you're over the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up with Kenny?

Speaker 6 (21:41):
These gentlemen have a wonderful evening. This is a great
day here in Ohio, nice and cloudy like.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Let's talk about the I'd.

Speaker 6 (21:50):
Like to talk about the influence that Tiger did have
on the game, the diversity he did put. What he
did is he made sure that these guys that were
wearing Paul to pants not working out. Now these guys
you have to come in here and shape because they

(22:12):
weren't before that was not part of golf. Golf was
just a lazy man's rich man's game. Then it became
a killer sport. They became a necessary tool in your
toolbox for work. So the diversity that you do have
is you've got the athletic part of being an athlete

(22:32):
professionally to come in there. And now guys have got nutritionists,
swing coaches. They didn't have Jack Nicholas and Lee Trevino.
They didn't have guys like that. But now they've got
merchandizing marketing guys in their corner. They've got image consultancy.
It is a business of.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
Golf that I'll just say, Hey, appreciate the call. That's
a great point.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
I mean, Tiger has left the idea and Carrie used
to be some chunky dudes out there, or super skinny
dudes out there, or you know, or dudes who just
didn't care. Now they all look good. Outfits match looking good,
they're all in shape. He definitely left the legacy when
it comes to that, and I think also the business
end of it as well. All Right, great conversation, and
I'm glad we can have conversations like this. That's one

(23:18):
of the wonderful things about the acup. We'll get in
all the big stuff. We'll yell at each other, Robin
I at times, Carrie, as you know, but also we
can have these well thought out, nuanced conversations.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
I love it, so I appreciate you guys with that.

Speaker 3 (23:29):

Our guest now is Jovann Boha, the Athletic Laker senior reporter.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
What's up by how you doing?

Speaker 6 (24:00):
I'm doing well.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Thank you for having me, no doubt man. Happy Friday, tou.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
I guess you could say at this point, a very
big game for the Lakers, Jovana. They got a big
win and now they find themselves in position can lock
down this three seed.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
How important is it for them to lock that seed
down in that positioning?

Speaker 8 (24:19):
To you, I think it's very important, and I think
tonight is the night to do it. Not to leave
anything to chance. We've seen some wild finishes the previous
regular seasons, and you don't want to be putting everything
on Sunday's game against Portland. So I think for them

(24:40):
getting a win tonight, securing the three seed, and then
potentially getting to rest their guys going into a week
off before the playoffs, I think that would be the
best case scenario for the Lakers. And then also Lakers
have been dominant at home. They have the second best
home record in the Western Conference. So if they can
lock up the three seed, have home court in Round
one and then potentially have home in round two or three,

(25:01):
depending on what happens in another series. Like I think
that would be the optimal path for them.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
Jovan, give us the temperature of the Lakers. I mean,
I know this is the Laker Town, Lakers station, we
talk about my lot, but I'm curious. I'm really curious
about how much energy they put into the game Wednesday,
getting that win to Luca and them being a little
drained from that situation, especially Luca. So I want to
know about the temperature of the team moving forward.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
What do you think? What do you think they sit
right now?

Speaker 8 (25:30):
I think they're in a really good spot, and I
think that game against Dallas on Wednesday was a bonding
experience for everyone, the way that they rallied around Luca,
the way that they rallied around that moment and even
the night before deciding to play against Oklahoma City and
seeing if they could lock up, you know how back

(25:51):
to back wins and lock up the three seed. Like,
I thought that kind of in and of itself, what
was its own bonding thing where they were going to
rest half their guys and they all collectively decided to play.
Then Luca gets ejected and they rally around that, and
just like the collective frustration, sometimes it's good to face
a bit of adversity as a group. Then the next
night to have the Luca game, everybody be supporting him,

(26:13):
hugging him, cheering on the crowd, chance and whatnot. Like,
I just thought it was a really formative experience for
this group that's still has not really been together that
long in terms of some of the principal figures. So
to have an experience like that, I think could go
a long way come playoff time. But right now, they're
playing really good basketball. I thought they looked really good

(26:33):
on that road trip in ok See in Dallas. The
defense is finally coming back after being gone for a
few weeks. The offense is peaking at the right time.
So I think the Lakers are entering the playoffs with
a lot of momentum right now.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Yov, let me ask you this. I think I agree.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
I think they're starting to continue to bond and put
some things together. Not to mention, you got Lebron, you
got Luca, and also Resa is playing out of his mind.
But let me ask you, all right, if you're JJ
Reddick and you are getting ready to go to this postseason,
what's the concern everything can't be great?

Speaker 2 (27:01):
What are you say? I'm a little worried about this.
Do we need to tighten this up or maybe tweak
this before we get into the postseason in about a
week or so.

Speaker 8 (27:08):
I would look at the defense. I think offensively, they've
been eighth in offensive ratings since Lebron and lu we
came back and have had some stinkers during that stretch.
So like I think when they've really been locked in
and playing good teams, their offense has looked even better.
So I think offensively that they've taken some some key
steps with just how the offense is functioning around Luca,

(27:31):
around Austin Reeves, around Lebron. So I think they figured
that out, and their role players are all shooting well,
they're all in a good rhythm. I guess the defensive side,
where again, there has been some progress lately. I think
the Houston game, I think the first Oklahoma City game
and I think the last game against Dallas, we're all
impressive performances where they held those respective teams under one

(27:53):
hundred points, which is really hard to do in twenty
twenty five. So I think the defense is trending in
the right direction. But this is going through be a
team that plays a lot of centerless basketball. If you
look at their rotation lately, as JJ's been prepping for
the playoffs, Jackson Hayes is often playing fourteen to sixteen,
maybe eighteen minutes a night, and with that, they don't

(28:13):
have a back, a true backup center, so they're playing
thirty to thirty four minutes a night of center less
basketball where it's Lebron and Ruey and DFS and Vando
all in there protecting the rim, protecting the glass. So
that's a very taxing style of defense. It takes gang rebounding,
it takes everybody rotating on a string, and so I

(28:34):
think how sustainable that is over the course of four series.
I think they could easily do it for one series,
maybe two, but like, where's the energy level at? Where
are the legs at in round three or potentially even
round four, assuming they can get there. So I think
just based on their defensive style. I think it does
ask a lot of the guys. We've seen at times

(28:57):
them defend really well and then struggle to make shots,
and that type of defense takes away from their legs offensively.
So I think kind of finding the optimal balance there
of like right now, the offense isn't good, the defense
hasn't been as good. Before that, the defense was really good,
the offense hasn't been as good. They kind of striking
that proper two way balance is going to be the
key for them. I think they should be good for

(29:18):
round one, but like round two and beyond, I think
they have to find that balance.

Speaker 5 (29:21):
Joban, let's pivot away from the Lakers for one moment here.
I think they're solid in that three four spot. We've
got four other teams that are buying for those last
two non play in spots between Minnesota, Memphis, Golden State,
and I mean the Clippers are right in that saying
mix as well. Of those four teams, who do you
see who do you see avoiding the play in?

Speaker 8 (29:43):
So right now, I've been going through this and going
through each team's schedule and looking at the standings and
the tie breakers. I think the West playoffs, assuming things
go chock with which they should based on some of
these teams are playing tanking teams that they should win
those orthough we I've seen some crazy things in recent
days with San Antonio beating Golden State. I think it's

(30:04):
going to come down to the Clippers Golden State game
at twelve thirty pm Pacific time Sunday in San Francisco,
and that game, I think will determine the winner will be.
If it's the Clippers winning, they'll be the five seed,
Minnesota will be the sixth, and the Warriors will be
the seven. If it's the Warriors winning, the Clippers will

(30:25):
still be the five seed because they have the tiebreaker
over the Warriors. The Warriors will be the sixth seed,
and then Minnesota will drop into the plan. So no,
it's a little confusing, but basically I think the Clippers
will probably be the five either way and avoid it.
I think it's just a matter of if the Warriors
can win, they'll be the sixth and be out of
the plan. If the Warriors lose, Minnesota will be the
sixth and the Warriors will drop into the play And

(30:46):
so if I had guess I looked at the odds
that I think that the Warriors are about sixty one
percent favored in that game. It is a home game
for them, So tentatively, I would say it's the Clippers
and the Warriors avoiding it in Minnesota and Memphis being
the two teams that are I think Memphis solidly we'll
we'll end up being the eight seed and that'll be
good for OK seed. We'll get I think a relatively

(31:08):
easy match up in Round one. But if I find
it predict right now, I would say Denver four, Clippers five,
Warriors six, Minnesota seven, Memphis eight, and that means that
the Lakers and the Warriors would be matched up in
Round one and that would be a hell of a
seven game series.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Who you ain't lying about that, Yovan.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
We'll have to wait to see how it all plays out, obviously,
as Steve de Sega was mentioning earlier, fifteen games today,
so it's a big NBA day and a lot on
the line for so many different teams. We'll keep an
eye out on the positioning. Thank you man, Appreciate it.
Appreciate you guys, all right, Jovan Booja, go ahead and
give him a follow there on X when you get
a chance. Yeah, it's gonna be some fascinating really early

(31:50):
matchups to Carrie that that could be some really good
to watch, especially in the Western Conference. Uh, and a
lot of get a lot of stakes still in these
last couple of days in the NBA. Speaking of the NBA,
John Moran has a new celebration my goodness, and he
says it's not exactly but yeah, you, Carrie, it's not
exactly what you're think it is.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
We'll tell you what he says that it is. We'll
do that. It's the Odd Couple, Rob and Carry.

There's like a few songs that have like a date
on them. You can't hear Summertime from Will Smith. You
can't hear that until it's officially summertime. And I feel
like I can't hear this unless it's like Halloween time. Really,
am I tripping? I don't think you're tripping.

Speaker 4 (33:32):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (33:32):
I don't think you're gonna listen to Thriller on the
random Friday. But I guess we are right now.

Speaker 6 (33:37):
So it is.

Speaker 5 (33:40):
There.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
You go then, yeah, and you gotta yeah, you gotta
relax to carry I know you might have went to
the gym and every day to day, but you gotta
relax out there.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
I don't know what you do.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
I know the sun is out, but the gun you
gotta relax. Alex had Alex had the buns out, and
I don't mean his earlier today, and now you got
the guns out. That's what's going on on this funky
flashback Friday.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
Listen.

Speaker 5 (33:59):
That's why I was so when you were talking about
the Bunn Jilly. I was like, Bun's son guns, all
that stuff's out there, all rhymes, Let's let's do it.
Let's make it that type of Friday.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
So all right, hey, all right.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
I got so Rob and I have talked about this,
so I don't know your thoughts. I'll let you kind
of start this thing so I can get your opinion
on it.

Speaker 6 (34:14):
JOA.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Morant, we know what happened last week? Does the gun thing?
He and Buddy hilled. Of course with the Warriors, they
got into it. He does a little gun celebration. Buddy
de Hill does it to him, he does it back.
The league says, hey, guys, cut it out. We know
it wasn't trying to be in any you know, real
threatening way. So they gave him a pass. And me
and Rob actually like, all right, NBA, way to do it.
Righte get a pass. You know, it's just a celebration.

(34:37):
Then he does it next night and he gets seventy
five thousand dollars fine, and we're like, all right, what
are we doing here?

Speaker 2 (34:44):
And everybody kind of had a big, you know, thing
to say about that. So you know what he does.
He goes into a celebration bag again.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Carrie pulls out a new one a couple of nights later,
and he throws out a grenade in the crowd, covers
his ears as if it, you know, exploded, blah blah blah. Yeah,
well you know what he says about it, now, I do.
He says, it's him throwing out his thoughts to the crowd,
them responding back, but him covering his ears because.

Speaker 5 (35:09):
He doesn't want to hear it. Oh man, Yeah, that's
what he said. Yeah, that's what he said. But we
can take what joh says with a grain of sault, right.
I think that's I think we're getting to that territory
with him, which is sad because I mean a little
over a year ago we were talking about him being
the face of the League's great, that's gone right, that's
gone right. I mean, there's no coming back. From it

(35:30):
for me, and I don't think he even cares to
interject himself back in that conversation. But for me, with
the whole jah thing in general, he needs to grow up.
And I know he's young, but he needs to take
some accountability here, man. I mean, obviously, all players aren't
created equal, and we know that all scenarios aren't created equal.

(35:51):
Somebody else doing a gun celebration does not hold the
same credence as a guy who was on social media
and got suspended and reprimanded for it. So it's just
not the same. So you're trying to make it the
same situation people are and it's just not that. So
for me, John has to take some accountability. And that's
where I stand with him. He's he needs to grow
up a little bit.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
Yeah, I mean, I think what's interesting I brought this
up carry I think there's a part of him that
feels like we did it.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
We you know, screwed him over. We don't get it.
We are the part of the problem, I think.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
And he's like, look at all the noise coming at
me and they're against me, and it's kind of like, no, dude,
you had a really bad run. Now again, dude, listen,
if they had social media when I was twenty two
to three four, you know, and I would imagine maybe
you were the same. I don't know, like we didn't
knucklehead things too. I'm not saying with this one, but
we did knucklehead things. So I completely understand that. And
I will always operate from a place of grace with really,

(36:49):
you know, with young people in that regard of because
everybody like, oh man, I would never dude, you did.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
Yes, you just didn't get caught. Yes, dude, you did.
We just didn't have camera phones. So relax.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
But I think once you get on that scale of
stardom as he is, it's kind of one of those
you assume like, Okay, he is gonna hit. It'll hit him.
He might literally hit his bank account or hit the teammates.
And I thought, that's been my biggest thing here. I thought,
for the sake of my teammates, I could prove a point,
I could find a way to keep sticking into the league.
But instead for the sake of my teammates and focusing

(37:22):
on the playoffs,
