Speaker 3 (03:40):
It's my good side.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
We are we're like you know we are right now, Rob,
We're like we're brock party needed the Avengers, like everybody's here.
We are locked and loaded. We got kettle, I mean, kid,
I call it man, kettle pop. We got kettle. Oh
you didn't right there right out the window, now I
could have just made it a joke like you.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Okay, that's what I do. No, I know, NBCU later,
mister hold the mayo. That's look a look at the
joy it brings him. Watch funny. It was funny right,
that one was better than most. You know what, I
unloaded my gun last night on on the.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Fire I thought you.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
I thought the Vikings won the way you talked about
you unloaded your gun. No, but I'm just saying I
had a I did. Because that was the last show
of the year for people were talking about the local
k NBC Los Angeles football show that we do after
Sunday night football called The Challenge. Mario Saliss is the host,
and Jonas Knox from Two Pros and a Cup of Joe.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
He's one of the.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Panelists as well, along with me and coach of Jason Nagro,
who is a Hall of Fame foot high school football
coach in the area. By the way, Mario was on
there looking like he had a crazy album in like
three with that Jack that Jack the Jack shirt off,
go down to his chest.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Put some respect on my knack he had.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
He dropped a crazy album like him and Mark Anthony
was like they was banging out of the way.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
He was looking so my god.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Yesterday it was all on the marble Sunday Night football,
the Lions and the Vikings. You know, we had this
conversation before Lions were two and a half point favorites
to win the game. They went big after after my god,
what are we talking about? The Vikings? The Vikings after
(05:31):
Sam Donald who I said, rob g Sam turned into
Ronald McDonald in the first half, and you know, they
were in the red zone. They moved the ball, they
were in the red zone four times and he overthrew.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
He couldn't get in.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
And then after that there was that I knew when
the game would turned. They had a missfield goal or something,
and then that just turned. That's when the whole game turned.
But it was like ten to nine and they had
three and a miss right after that missfield goal, and
then the Lions took control of that game. And so
now the Lions are the number one seed in the
NFC and they get to buy They could have been
(06:08):
fifth seed if the Vikings beat them. And I'm just
gonna say, the Lions played well second half. And this part,
to me is the reason we've said on this show
why I wouldn't pay Sam Darnold and why I need
to see I'm not gonna let one outlier be the
reason I signed them to some four year mega contract
(06:31):
because to me, yeah, I'm just saying, like yesterday, if
you watch, if you looked at Twitter and looked at
a lot of people, they were like, see, this is
the reason, Like you're always afraid. That's the reason why
rock Perty doesn't have a contract yet, you know what
I mean, Like anybody, if he was anywhere else after
his start, he would have a contract. Oh my god,
(06:53):
you gotta lock him up, you gotta sign him. Didn't
they sign Jimmy g Off of nothing? Even Jimmy g
got a contract after starting four games for the Patriots.
But they won't. They didn't want to sign brock Party
because they're afraid. You're afraid that they're going to sign
Sam Donald and then he'll turn back into the guy
who failed with the Jets and failed at a couple
(07:14):
of the places before he got to the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
But what about I mean, there's so much to dissect
there because the Sam Donald thing doesn't make sense to
me that Like I've given you so many good to
great games this season. Then I have one game, definitely
a bad game, for sure. He overthrew some touchdowns, but like,
why is that not the anomalyue versus the rest of
what I did.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Because it's the big game, you always look at stuff,
and I'm just this is if you meltdown in the
big game, people are afraid of you. It's the Brock Party.
I said this to Chris when he was doing the show.
I said, they won't like Brock Party because of his situation.
No one will fully buy into him until he wins.
Now that's not fair, right, But I mean, I'm just saying.
(07:58):
I'm not saying, but no matter how good he does
during the regular season, if he got into the Super
Bowl or some game and don't play well, people gonna say, see,
I knew he couldn't get us to where we want.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
To be crazy to me when I say all he'd
known is to get to the NFC Championship in the
Super Bowl but almost.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Why did Jared Golf get get traded then? Because they
thought they had an upgrade in.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
No, no, no, But they thought no Matthew Steffan hadn't
won a playoff game going there.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Upgrade in talent. No, no, no.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
But I'm trying to tell you is that's why they
got rid of Jared Golf. He had taken him to
the NFC Championship game, he had taken him to the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
He had when they thought it was because of us,
not him, because we can get Matthew Stafford, who doesn't
have necessarily the playoff success that you can argue of
Jared Goff, but he's more talented.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
They were right. The Lions got what they wanted, so
it was a win win in that time.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Know what I'm saying, But that's what I'm saying about
Jared Golf quarterback the fifth greatest offense in the history
of the NFL. You can say whether though they had
the weapons or not, but he was the quarterback there,
averaged thirty five points a game. And when you give
up on somebody is because he didn't perform in the
big game.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
And that's what I said, literally nobody. I guess what
I'm saying is rob they scored three points. Nobody performed.
Sam mcvayh didn't perform, The receivers didn't defreve However, He'll
not go jump back into Dolorean with you and go
all the way back there when I want to go
back twenty four hoursever you want to do so, No, Look,
Sam Donald was absolutely not good. That's clear as day
(09:31):
anybody who watched it, especially in the red zone where
you have, especially against a Lions team that scores in bunches.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Meaning yeah, y'all, defense was doing good.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
You knew a wave of offense when the Lions was coming,
you need to score of San Donald.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
They didn't do that.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
And you know this, there's a phrase in Detroit that
is boss up, and that's really to me what was
exciting about this team and really the duration of this
season for the Lions. They bossed up all season long.
You know when you boss up, when the chips are down,
you lost a bunch of defensive players that matter.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
The Lions bossed up. When you're playing bad teams. You
know what we do.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
We destroy them. When you're playing good teams, we beat
them eight to zero on the road. You saw what
Jared Golf was even to do even in the game,
as you just mentioned, a bad game, throw five interceptions
and still win that game.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
So to me, this season.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
They put a real button, a cherry on top of
the season where they did nothing but show them who
they were, their identity and continue to me, like I
just said, boss up in every facet of the game
and even in the game plan that they had yesterday.
Did you see what they did to Jefferies? They made
him look like the most regular receiver in the NFL.
(10:39):
Did you see what they did the MVP candidate Sam Donald.
This is with all the defensive injuries. So I got
to give big credit to Aaron Glenn defensive coordinator, Big
credit to Ben Johnson offensive coordinator. As I told Rob
g the worst part about this as somebody who was
obviously rooting for the lines that they did so well.
We just lost both our coordinators last night. We just
lost both of them are getting a job somewhere and
(11:02):
that's gonna be hard to see what the Lions, you know,
how they progress from there. But man, they mede Kevin O'Connell,
who's been this offensive coordinator, good, great guru.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
They made him look pedestrian, and I make him look pedestrian.
They drove the ball into the red zone four times.
They go okay, no, no, no, But my point is
that they went down and it wasn't like they weren't
moving the ball. This is why you have to question
Sam Donald. In the previous four games, the Lions are
giving up thirty two and a half points a thirty
(11:32):
two and a half, they're in the red zone, they
get they came away, the receivers wide open.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
He missed them. I mean, he missed a couple of people.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
It ain't like they played some defense where oh my god,
he didn't have a chance, Sam Donald.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
They were at least two.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Touchdowns missed by Sam Donald. Could you at least that.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
He had a couple of throws.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
But what I'm saying, I'm saying I'm not arguing Sam
Donald was bad. But I'm also not going to just
simply say Sam Donald was bad. I'm gonna say there
was defense. He was flustered, he was out of his
Then you look at the statistics of how often the
Lions got to him, It's crazy what they were able
to do. They held that man of forty three point
nine percent, which is lower the season one hundred and
(12:11):
sixty six yards.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
I mean that defense got after him. He was seeing ghosts.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
Rob He was two or eleven in the red zone
and some of a couple of them I agree with
just like freaked out bad throws the others.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
He's running for his life, didn't know what to do.
So absolutely they left some points on the board. There's
no denying that. But you know, you had a whole
second half to still be good. You had a whole
second half.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
I said, the Lions played well, that's what and that's
what I'm saying. They still got.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Four times in the red zone. You can't come away
with three field goal. It's just you can't do it.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
But you know, and that's to me where you know
that going into this game, if I go play the Chiefs,
especially the you know twoenty twenty and eighteen nineteen twenty
twenty one Chiefs, I know I can't go in there
kicking fiegeals. The Lions have the best offense in the NFL.
The Lions have the best point differential in the NFL.
You know that. So to me, you better all up
your best plays just like the Lions. Do you know
(13:02):
I'm looking at that. We've got the game going right now.
I mean, that's just and Jeffery's just missed that one.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
That's on him. That ain't got nothing to do with
Sam Donald.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
I mean, Jefferson, I'm sorry, Sat Jeffers Yet Jefferson, that
was all on him.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
He wide open there. How do you miss that that replay? Yeah,
they're showing all the obviously the stuff, and.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
So obviously even when they're showing it, they're showing the
miscues by that there wasn't any defensive play. They're showing
the miscues by Sam Darnald. And that's why he's a conversation.
That's all I'm saying is you can't look at this
game and just say the Lions, Oh my god, they
stifle them. They never got past the fifty. That's a
defensive way. I'm gonna say, that's all them. They're in
(13:41):
the red zone, you're inside the twenty four times.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
That means you move the football, right, Yeah, but it
doesn't matter unless you get points. I agree what I'm saying.
They what do I always say, rob g I always
say the Lions defense, especially after all these injuries Ben,
But don't bring been saying that for the last four
or five weeks. They know we gotta give up something
we're not as you know, it was like that they
just show eight and Hutches is we don't have him
right now. We don't have a bunch of guys. So
(14:06):
we're gonna ben, but we're not gonna break. And they've
been able to do that for the most part of
the last six seven weeks. In fact, it was one
point they were going on a crazy turn, but they
didn't even give up a passing touchdown till they just
start losing too many guys.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
So I just love what I saw.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Even though in some of those fourth downs you saw
the difference Kevin O'Connell went for some didn't go first.
He didn't know what to do on some of those
fourth downs. The Lions were like, this is what we do.
We are prepared to go for it, even on fourth down,
and they look literally like nothing like remedial.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
This is just what we do.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
And so to me, they look like the better team
overall defensively, special teams making their kicks. They didn't make
their kicks and they just got out Class.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine six sixty three sixty nine. Did last night's game
say more about Sam Donald or Ronald McDonald or more,
don't ever edit that that's the correct Troy basketball.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Do they play that at the four?
Speaker 1 (15:02):
You know they're not They're gonna four oh no, they should.
They'll just cut out the basketball.
Speaker 7 (15:06):
All right.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
We'll continue that conversation next with you.
Speaker 4 (15:08):

Rob Parker has to maybe double back for Detroit in
the US, he wouldn't be welcome back. But get up.
By the way, Rob, I watched the dow on TV

I know I was stuck in the studio missing you.

people who made the song please, no, no, no no.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Nelly told me he gave me permission. He called me Nelly,
and I cool because you know, he's a baseball guy.
He is a baseball from Saint Louis. Everybody is Saint Louis.
Black white low people that baseball people. That's like we've
talked about a million times. You would be somebody would
be surprised how many black folk new hockey, especially if
they're around my age or old and Detroit and Detroit
because it's just no, so good, so relevant company alive

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, Robin and I talking.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
About the Vikings Lions game for the NFC and also
for the conference number one seed.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
The Lions win.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Is it an indictment on Sam Donald or the Lions
just showed who they are? What say you? Eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox? Who we got all right?
Kevin in Culver City, California. You're in the odd couple?
Fox Sports Radio, what's up? Cav what's up, man?
Speaker 3 (17:03):
God is good all the time, Yes, sir.
Speaker 8 (17:06):
Always, Uh, brother, brother, I love that Nelly. You take
you back, take me back to summer two thousand and two.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Yeah, keep Kevin all right?
Speaker 9 (17:17):
Oh yeah, of course.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (17:18):
We don't want that that drop again.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
You gotta relax, that's right.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
Yeah, Look, this is an indication.
Speaker 8 (17:25):
Like Rob was saying, you gotta see what Sam does
in the playoffs. You gotta keep McCarthy. You don't know
if you want to trade him yet, but I'm gonna
tell you one thing that's dangerous, Kevin. You gotta watch
off for this. Can the Detroit Lions beat Minnesota three
straight times the divisional foes? You saw what happened when
the Rams finally beat the forty nine ers. And remember
what Dan Campbell's aid the Kevin O'Connor, I'll see you
(17:46):
in two Weeks's Minnesota holding some stuff back before when they.
Speaker 6 (17:51):
Play them again. And I gotta give credit to the
Detroit Lions and coaches, but you know, Minnesota's gonna make
the adjustments. And I don't think Justin Jefferson is gonna
have another game like that. Every gain he's gonna be
ready to play. And you know, they're probably gonna simplify
for Sam Donald a little bit too. You got you know, winner,
Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson played like that in Howkinson.
(18:11):
They still got weapons and they know each other. That
game is gonna be a very tough game, tough back
and forth game. You talked Tom.
Speaker 8 (18:17):
I heard him on the radio. He said, if you
guys are.
Speaker 6 (18:20):
Taking all these points, what's Kevin o'callag doing.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
I think he's gonna take more points.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
He's not going to be trying to go for it.
Speaker 8 (18:25):
On fourth down, and I think it would be a different,
different game, away closer game in the playoffs, maybe fourteen twelve.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Thank Kevin. Well, they got to beat the Rams. They
got to beat You got to beat the Rams before
you come see us again.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
Scott in North Carolina, you're on the couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
What's up, Scott?
Speaker 10 (18:42):
What's up?
Speaker 6 (18:42):
They were supposed to keep the Mayo route.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Hold the Mayo. I know that didn't happen.
Speaker 10 (18:48):
That was a good one though, But it's a more
of adictment on the Vikings in general. Like when you
look at their head coach. They lost last year, his
first time in the playoffs to Daniel Jones and the
Giants this game, they just seem not prepared for the moment.
Sam Donald included just as included up and passes the coach,
(19:08):
you know, the going fourth down or not. It just
seemed the moment was too big for everybody, not just
sem Don.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Yeah, that's where shook it. That's fair, It shook it.
Thank you appreciate it. Hey to you.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
Hey Bruno in Brooklyn. You're on the couple of Fox.
What's up, Bruno?
Speaker 3 (19:24):
How are you get man?
Speaker 5 (19:25):
Gentlemen? Happy twenty twenty five, sir, more of your show
this year. I'm looking forward to it, man.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
You know you know that we appreciate you, my man.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
Hey, listen, guys, yesterday's game, I watched that intently. Just
pull disclosure, big big fan of you know, of of
the vikings right now. I'm a Jets fan, but I
like Donald. That Donald got that shot out of that
tragic mess that was the Jets. So I'm looking forward
to the game. But when you watch that game and
you saw his eyes when he was when he was
(19:54):
in that position, you watched our eyes darting around the field.
He was in a position he was definitely in over
his head. And to the point where you got one
of the best receivers in the game with Jefferies. He
was floating balls. They had him right down there. He
let those things go. Now, the first yearies that he
floated and I said, all right, he's gonna settle down.
He never settled down. Now, with the big game that
(20:18):
got coming up, it could all go away if he
shows up with the Rams, nice weather, no issues with that.
He goes in there and drops the dagger. Here's the
bigger number of guys. If he blows this, he's not
going to get paid.
Speaker 9 (20:30):
Man.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
No, No, I agree as one of them as much
as he's done. But he's gonna lose a lot of
money because people are going to.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Stand at they franchise Him's gonna get forty you know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Yeah, but it ain't a like a four year deal
for one hundred and twenty five you know, like that is.
That'll go out the window if he can't win a
playoff game. Bruno, thank you, appreciate you guys. Yep for
squeeze in real quick.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Trevor from Waco, Texas, you're on the couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
What's up Trevor.
Speaker 9 (20:58):
Hey, what's going on, gentlemen?
Speaker 5 (20:59):
How are we doing to night?
Speaker 9 (21:00):
Happy New Year, Happy New yeary New Year. Guys. Yeah,
I'll make it quick. I just wanted to say that
I think it's a disservice to kind of I think
you're doing a disservice to the Detroit Lions coaching staff.
If you make this about the Sam Donald failure coming,
I think you're also doing a disservice the Sam Donald
did a year that we're watching a bunch of resurgencies
(21:22):
at quarterback. You know, you're you gotta give Trevor.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
That's fine.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
You could be master card and give everybody credit, but
there comes moments in.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Games credit no, hold on, hold on, Trevor, also hold on, hello.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
You do give people credit, but we're also here to
look at and.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
Analyze what went wrong.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
It's not always because the other team played well. And
for us to sit here and that like it was
all the Detroit Lions defense would be dishonest and disingenuous. Yeah,
we had two passes or two touchdowns that he left
on the field.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
It's okay to mention that. There's not there's nothing wrong.
Speaker 9 (22:06):
With that that I don't even problem what you mentioned
in that more or less what I was getting at
is this game. The discredit, Sam be the reason, Sam
Donald is the reason they failed, is a discredit to
the Lions coaching staff, to the Lion's physical trainers, to
the people that are getting Okay.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
Okay, I gotcha, I got your. Thank you, Trevor. Appreciate Trevor.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
You ain't wrong when you're right, all right, Sam Donald,
look ratt And there's a reason.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
He looked rattle rattle to missing an open wide receiver. Yes,
when you're a rattle you do things that are uncharacteristic. Yes,
that's exactly how that happened. Nobody in his face wide
open to throw an open pass.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
I don't really wonder if he was really watching, watching
because he missed. Though you heard me, I admit it absolutely,
But after that it's called guns.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
He was guns. But they got into the red zone
four times. It's not like they didn't get past.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
The fifty and the defense was on.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Top of him.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
N he couldn't and he couldn't breathe, and he couldn't
see his hand in front of his face.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
If you do that, then I say the Lions defense
was unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
But when you have a ratchet defense that's that's banged
up and has given up thirty two and a half
points in the four previous games.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
And when you get into the red.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Zone four times, I'm gonna look at the quarterback and say,
what happened?
Speaker 3 (23:24):
That's all I hear that.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
And after you have the right to and I say,
he had four quarters, meaning not just those four drives
to get it done, and it got worse.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
You do realize he in the offense got worse in
the second half.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
I gave So that's what I'm saying that it just
gave them credim second they momentum kept coming on him.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
All right, we have the Patriots. What are they gonna do?
Should they have held the mayo?
Speaker 3 (23:47):
I got you, I got you. See what I'm saying.
I'm still so loving that you. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker week days at seven
pm Eastern, four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
All Right, here we go. So we talked about.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
It was trying to hold the mayo or not?
Speaker 3 (24:07):
Yeah, I thought I was shocked.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Uh, but then again, I gotta say this, and it's
whenever you let a coach go.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
And we've seen this, so this is not just a
Mayo kind of situation.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Can we at least acknowledge that because Rob g and
we talked about this before when uh Denver had uh
Sean Payne, No, no, no, the coach before sewn I
just uh the hack hack it Nathaniel Hacket.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Dude.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
It was obvious early on that he was just he
wasn't a head coach. Everybody's not a head coach. And you, Mayo,
there must be something that you feel that compelled that
uh you make a change. And maybe it's grable, you know,
uh being able to pick a coach that you really
(25:00):
think that would fit the role better or more prepared
or you need more discipline or more structure, do you
know what I mean? Because we saw this happen and
I bring it up all the time, and Rickclo had
success with the Pistons and they still went and got
Larry Brown when he became available, So sometimes I think
(25:20):
that could happen. It's hard to feel bad. I mean,
you feel bad because you only got one year, especially
when you knew they weren't gonna be good. And I
think they fumbled a quarterback. We talked about it earlier
about them not Jakobe and not starting. So yeah, there's
a couple of things. So I don't mind.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
Listen, we're all grown ups in this room, all of us,
and people are gonna have an opportunity oftentimes to if
they can upgrade, They're gonna upgrade, right. You know, this
isn't a marriage in the sense of where I'm with
you for life.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
This is one of those things.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
Hey, if an upgrade's out there and they went and
got you know, Jim as you mentioned, you can go
get do one up from Rick car Loog, go get
Larry Brown win that championship. So be it the issue
I have with Giro Mayo. You had Robert Kraft, who's
the owner. You have Bill Belichick, who is the winning
you know, the greatest coach of all time, blah blah blah,
(26:14):
hand pick him. He seemed like, well, this is your
guy from ownership down and to give that guy one
season to turn around an organization that had already become
so bad that you let Bill Belichick go, then, to me,
that was unrealistic expectations. If Bill Belichick struggled the last
couple of seasons. What was Mayo going to do out
(26:36):
the blue with an even worse team and his first
time getting his hands wet as a head coach, So
to me, that was unrealistic expectations. Now, Also, what I
don't like about this is when you look at how
organizations do this all the time in any sport, like
you can literally be coach of the year, as you
were kind of alluding to, and ain't get fired. To me,
I don't understand what kind of culture you're trying to create.
(26:59):
If you look at Dan Campbell, who would have known
you'd be here if you bas it simply off his
first year. Dude started off all ten and one, Rob
all ten and one.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
But but for every Dan Campbell there are guys who
are bad too.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
So so I mean, I hear you, but I'm like,
let me see that we're.
Speaker 4 (27:15):
Bad, right, But sometimes I'm not here to say that
everybody should just kip one year.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
But there must be just one example because there are
other coaches. Right.
Speaker 4 (27:28):
Matt Patricia came, he was ban in his first year,
second year, right, so you could have used him to say, well,
they gave him three years and it was bad. I
could give you plenty of guys who got three years
and it didn't pan out.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
But only the only fact, my only thing I'm saying,
Rob is when your owner, the head coach, who is
you know, forever love and endeared and dear there and
Bill Belichick say this is the guy we haven't heard much.
You know, there's some hiccups he had, but like like
this bunch of players who necessarily have spoken out against it,
and maybe there is maybe internally, this is what I'm saying,
(28:07):
Maybe internally there's robber Craft coming down to practice and
they giving him a look like, bro, this ain't it.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
Jimmy Johnson was one and fifteen, I could go, Chuck
no was one and thirteen. That's all I'm saying, Like, uh,
Tony Dunjree start out zero and five, Tom Landry once
That's what.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
I'm saying, is my dang like and so there must
be something else, is all I'm saying, because it can't
just be the record.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Yeah, but there are those guys.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
I think it was pretty obvious last year that Nathaniel
Hackett wasn't a head coach.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Will will you agree with that? I'm gonna add another
one to here. Listen, Brandon Staley, y'all just kind of
knew this this.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
That he had a head coach like like this, he
cost his team games and I kept going, they gotta
fire him, not Antonio Pierce. Thing is real quick, and
let's say this is well, I haven't been told anything,
so I'm just gonna keep doing what I'm like, Like,
something's not right there?
Speaker 3 (28:56):
Would you say that?
Speaker 4 (28:57):
Yes, it's like because cause this should be a state
man like that. He's our guy we're running with when
you go four and thirteen. It's not okay to just
be like, well, nobody told me anything. So I'm gonna
keep coming every day until, yeah, until my card key
doesn't work.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Yeah, you think something would be saying by now, I
don't know, but all right, we have uh Sheeco City
and also showing my guy Rob Parker some love. We'll
tell you why it is The Odd Couple, Rob Parker,

Than I've been alive. That's crazy.
Speaker 7 (32:25):
Grow up. I got more gram My Beard though, but it's.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Just hey, I got you. I got a guy.
Speaker 7 (32:30):
So Rob, how does it feel to be damn near
for decades in the biz?
Speaker 3 (32:37):
It is just plays video? It is crazy.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
No, it's crazy today because it's so vivid. I remember
driving to Wilkesbury, Pennsylvania to find an apartment to take
this job at the Wilkesbury Times Leader to cover high
school sports. I covered Rocket Ishmael at door track season
like he was smoking everybody in Wilkesbury, Pennsylvania. It's about
(33:05):
three and a half hours from New York. I remember
getting about four or five job offers and deciding on
this newspaper because it was a fifty thousand circulation newspaper
and we had like twelve full time sports trives a
lot back then, so That's what attracted me to go.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
And I was already working.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Part time at the Greenwich Time newspaper in college, and
so all these papers started calling. The boss was like, uh,
you know, you can stay here and work full time.
We'll hire you. You don't have to go. But the
Greenwich Time paper was like fifteen or twenty thousand, and
it was only three or four of us full time.
And I was like, I would about to go to
a bigger paper because my next move will be even bigger.
(33:50):
And I didn't even last their five months. I was
making fifteen thousand dollars. I was making like twelve hundred
dollars a month paying rent, car insurance, car note meals.
You know what I mean, going out like like twelve
hundred a month. Can you imagine, Like.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Oh yeah, that's what I tell people and you do
the same, you know, we both mentor a lot of
younger folks.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
I tell you want to be in this bid? Yeah,
what about you want to be on an hour? And
you sure, yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
I want to be all right, because it ain't the
goods in glam Like you think there is a point
when you get too five.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
I can breathe them. By the way, but that grime.
And I tell kids all the time.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
All right, So when they call you to come do Boise, Idaho,
to be a reporter, to be on air, to be
a radio host and be making you like team twenty
thousand and here's the crazy part.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
Your family.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Then my babies on TV already they thinking you making
two hundred thousands, You on TV?
Speaker 3 (34:45):
You got the TV money? You got right? What twelve
dollars an hours?
Speaker 1 (34:50):
You better be ready for this because yes, the great
part about this job is there's no ceiling, you know,
as far as you can be.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
We you know, I ain't gonna name you people, but
I'll give you this money.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
People are ad can me of all the years thirty
nine years, what year was your favorite year? Okay, which
is hard because I had a lot of great jobs.
Speaker 3 (35:08):
I'm going and there's nineteen eighty six. Give me something.
Speaker 4 (35:12):
I knew it And it's nineteen eighty six for one
for two reasons. A. I was twenty two years old, right,
I was a staff writer at the New York Daily News,
which at that time was the largest paper in the
country one point three million copies a day, one point
three million. And in nineteen eighty six, I got to
cover the world series, my first world series. Imagine being
(35:34):
a twenty two year old kid, and the iconic world
series at that the Mets and the Red Sox. The
ball goes through Bill Buckler's legs. But I've been very,
very blessed. I still enjoy it. I still get up.
You know that I'm passionate about it. I'm not like,
oh yeah, I don't want to be here. Can I
just get through this or whatever? I love it. I
(35:56):
still love it like I did.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
I hope you get another thirty nine so I can
make fun of you like we make fun of everybody else.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
We got more. Congrats Box Sports Radio
Speaker 5 (36:08):
