life is good.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
Glad to be here and glad to take that ticket
I gave out yesterday to the window Team USA twenty
seven and a half. Never a doubt, my friend, never
a doubt. You gotta love it when your bets come through.

Speaker 6 (01:48):
Well, you just pierced the heart of Rob g because
for some reason he decided that Brazil was actually gonna
make it a ball game and lost a hearty.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Sum because he foolishly led against Team USA. Now that's
what happens.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
You don't listen to the show, Rob g Oh, I
was giving out gem yesterday and all of a sudden
he's just ignoring it, walking in head held low.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
But what's wrong? So I'm met on brutal blow clow
right right? All right? Well, speaking of Rob g, he
of course is the super producer and he's running things
on the ones, on the updates, my bad Brian Finley,
the loquacious one, on the social media of the great
Elijah Sabuna, and on the ones and twos. In for

(02:40):
DJ Alex Teicher is none other than Ugh Mary Mary.
All right, Martin, you mentioned it. Team USA walloped Brazil.
They next up have Serbia, which edged Australia. In a

(03:02):
great game. It was an overtime game. Patty Mills hit
a fifteen footer over sixteen footter, maybe over Nicole Jokic,
who defended it about as well as he could, and
the Meals hit it to force overtime. But Serbia prevailed

(03:23):
in ot and so they will play the United States
and the winner will go to the gold medal game
against either Germany or France, which beat Canada. I think
it's going to be United States against Germany in the final.
And I you know, what was that a four point game?
And exhibition? I get it, it was just an exhibition. But Germany,

(03:47):
you know, will not be easy. So leading scores Devin
Booker dropped eighteen, Anthony Edwards seventeen off the bench, Anthony
Davis thirteen, Durant eleven, Joe Lnb fourteen NB. I'm gonna
give him credit like I did. Yesterday's played better the

(04:07):
last two games, so good for him play. I had
twelve points and nine assists. But here's the issue. Obviously,
there's not much to say about this. They smashed Brazil
as we knew they would. Most of us knew they would,
except for Rob g but Noah Lyles, who won the
one hundred meter gold medal in the greatest race I've

(04:31):
ever seen. He of course said lash a year ago
that the NBA champion, you know I'm paraphrasing, but wasn't
necessarily the world champion because you know, it's the league.
It's the national championship, of course, but is it really
the world Championship? And he's gone back and forth with

(04:51):
some NBA players about that, Devin Booker most recently and yesterday,
and Booker made a great point like, look, we got
the best players in the world, in the world. It's
not just the best American players playing in the NBA,
it's the best players in the world, So it is
the world Championship. I can see both sides, but I

(05:13):
do think it's high time the world has improved enough.
And I agree with Booker Martin. Look, we have nicolea
Jokic in the NBA, Yanni's Antetokumbo, Luka Doncis, They're in
the NBA, Shay Gilders, Alexander from Canada. So we do
have the best league in the world, there's no question.

(05:35):
But I do think the world has improved enough where
why not have a legitimate world championship? Where the winner
of the NBA plays the winner of the EuroLeague or
I don't know how many if there are any other
leagues that are on par with the euro League, but
if there are, you have a round robin tournament or

(05:57):
whatever with those teams playing in it. That would certainly
be more of a world championship. I think we've eaten enough,
humble Pie to not just be like the NBA. And
I agree the NBA is the best, but I'm just saying,
now that they're playing basketball all over the world, why

(06:18):
not just have a world championship, so to speak. But
Rob g Adam Silver saying something that kind of spoke to.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Maybe this being un work.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Chris, I'm sorry. I know this is inside radio, but
you gotta see you. I gotta tell you.

Speaker 5 (06:36):
It's a bird fluid the studio right now, and Brian
Finley is under attack.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
It's running over. First of all, how the bird get
in the studio? I guess it's just somebody held the
door up been too long.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
But this thing, wow, diving on at Brian Finley the
same way Team US say we're following that.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Yes, wow, that is crazy.

Speaker 7 (07:01):
Well, you know what's worse is that it oh it's
a bat. What's worse is that it flew out of
the studio and rather than clothinging the door behind it,
Brian's getting his phone out of trying to get a
video of it.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Leaving the door open so it could come back any momenting. Now, Oh,
befit all right, that's that. No, he's he's nervous. He's
so scared. He still has his phone out trying to
get video of it. I get it, befit.

Speaker 7 (07:25):
But to uh, to answer your question, and I was
flying in this studio, so we're all going.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
To get raby. That's all he that door closed over there.

Speaker 7 (07:32):
But to answer your question, Chris, Yes. Adam Silver over
the weekend spoke to the Associated Press, and I'm surprised
to get more run because what he told them is
that he is having quote more serious conversations with Foeba
because he's there and obviously he's the FEBA Basketball about
having some sort of USA versus the World NBA World

(07:56):
Cup something of that effect. Nothing is in stone, nothing
is imminent, it's still no timetable. But he did say
that they have really taken notice about the globalization of
the game and he would like to see more interaction
between America's best and Europe's best.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Quickly before you go, Martin, Huh. What they need to do,
if they're gonna do any of this is at the
professional level, standardize the rules. Three point line is the same, distance,
the ball is the same, the rules are the same.
You know, there's the goaltending. There's no defensive three seconds

(08:37):
in international play. If you're gonna start competing like meaningfully
outside of the Olympics, outside of the World Cup and all,
you know, the feb World Cup and all that stuff,
like on somewhat of a regular basis, you gotta to
make it fair. You have to standardize the rules. College
can remain a little different whatever, but the pros at

(08:58):
every level in every country needs to play the same rules.

Speaker 5 (09:02):
I mean, they could play the same rules, they could
play different rules. The fact of the matter is what
we have seen through this international tournament is these other
countries do not have a shot like when the Team
USA is playing at it at its best. When Team
USA players are locked in, there's no shot. And you
know all this would do. Chris is honestly strengthened Team

(09:26):
USA shot every single year in the in the Olympics,
because if you're gonna have these guys actually play together
outside of the Olympics, then the whole trump that we
hear about these international teams will be dead. It wouldn't
be they've been playing together for so long, because you
would have a legit team USA five or five men's

(09:46):
team that.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Would go each summer. I will say this about the
you been playing together for so long. Oh, Czechoslovakia have
been playing together for so long. Slovenia have been playing
together for so long. I think that's a little overstated.
I get it. Maybe when they were growing up they
played together, but now they all go to their professional

(10:07):
leagues and their professional teams. During the year, Nikoli Oaks
didn't playing with these Serbian guys all the time. No,
you know, so, I think that needs to stop. That's
been an excuse we've used, but it needs to stop
because these guys. Giannis isn't playing with the gree Greek
players a lot. No, But I think with the Milwaukee Bucks,

(10:27):
and I don't care that you played together six years
ago or ten years ago. When you're fifteen years old
or whatever, things change.

Speaker 5 (10:35):
Well, I do think it's a little different than that,
just simply that because I would agree in that regard.
If you're talking about these guys grew up playing together,
it's like, well, all right, well I wouldn't put Drew
Joyce on the Olympic team because le Brown's on it
right right. But I do think, like when you see
the story of Dennis Shrewder saying basically as he's like
the kind of the captain of the German team, essentially

(10:56):
telling Maxi Kleeber, hey, we're good on you, pal, because
you didn't playing the World Cup last summer. I think
that's where it is that the summers that they have
played together.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Yeah, I mean I get that, but still it's a
full year in between that. I mean that to me again,
I think we've used that as a bit of an excuse.
I don't want to disregard it completely. But Martin, I
think what what Adam Silver's talking about, and you know,
I think he's just out there and leaving a lot. Yeah. No,

(11:27):
I mean I'm not saying he may not try to
put something together, but what I'm talking about, and I
think what Adam's talking about, but definitely what I'm talking
about is not sending an All Star team and All
NBA team every year to play the world because again,
that's what the Olympics is. And yeah, right now, you're

(11:49):
right with Lebron and Stephen KD. We're beating them up.
Let's see four years from now how it goes. And
I think we'll win, but I mean it's gonna be tougher.
But what I'm actually saying, Martin, is the NBA champion,
all right, they would Boston Celtics would play the winner

(12:10):
the champion of the EuroLeague in a series. Come on,
you'd say, come on. But we never if we had
never started sending our pros and playing against the world,
we never thought some of these Olympic games would be
so close. We never thought we'd actually lose with pros
against the world. And I'm not saying we would lose.

(12:31):
Believe me, I think we would win. But I'm just
saying the world has gotten good enough where you can
have a literal world championship. And the thing that those
European teams will have versus a lot of the NBA
teams may be playing better team basketball. Depends on which

(12:55):
team they play in the NBA, but it might be
playing better team basketball. And now, look, I'll say this,
Martin We have nothing to gain from this in the NBA,
not a single thing. But if you want to like
to say you're the world champion, now sounds good, Just
like to say you the World Series, you're the world

(13:17):
champion because you won the World Series. You ain't playing
the best team from Japan. Well, and the way these
Japanese brothers have come over and done in Major League Baseball,
and the way they wipe the floor with us in
the Little League World Series, who's to say our teams
are automatically better than theirs, but we call them the

(13:37):
world champion. But that's that's baseball, which is different. Which
that is an example of how but.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
This in the World Baseball Classic, because when you look
at a baby but that's not the version.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
They don't send the team. They send all stars. But look,
but that's not a team I want the I'm talking
about the NBA champion versus the EuroLeague champion.

Speaker 5 (14:02):
The euro League champion would lose the way that Brazil
just got pounded into oblivion and it set back home.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
That happens, then fine, that happens, then fine, I'm going
with it. Fine, Yeah, I just don't see any need
for this. I see no need for we've had and
I don't have the results in front of me because
I know we won most of them. But ROBG, you
know this we've played. We used to play. It was
something like the McDonald's exhibitions or something, and we used

(14:32):
to send our NBA teams over to play in Europe.
This is decades ago. You remember what I'm talking about, Robgi,
You had it right there, Chris.

Speaker 7 (14:41):
The McDonald's Championships sometimes called the McDonald's Open International Basketball,
featuring the NBA champion against club teams from Europe and
South America.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
And we won the bulk of them. But correct me
if I'm wrong. We didn't win all the time. And
I get it. I'm sure a lot of our teams weren't.
You know, they're getting in shape because usually it was
for the season, right, and they're just getting in shape,
almost like preseason. But we didn't win all of them.
I mean, it sounds like you may have some type
of summary there in front of.

Speaker 7 (15:09):
I do, and it actually it did say that we
won all of them. We did win all of them, yes, okay,
what a shot, no, but it stopped. The last one
was nineteen ninety nine, So.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
Chris, they don't have a chance. They don't have a
chance if we want to put it together. Nineteen ninety one,
the Lakers beat Manege. I don't know who how to
even say this, one sixteen to one fourteen.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Now that was the year that might have been the
Magic stopped playing. So obviously the Lakers weren't as good.
The Knicks won in nineteen ninety one, seventeen to one
oh one eighty six the Nuggets. Yeah, I'm not saying again,
I would expect us to win. But what I'm saying,

(15:54):
Martin is the other leagues I think have gotten to
the point of legitimacy, at least the EuroLeague, to where
it's like they can rightly say, hey, we want to
play y'all. We want to play y'all. And if we
wipe the floor with them, so big. But you know what,
as we keep wiping the floor with them, just like

(16:16):
it's happened in international play, maybe each year they get
closer and closer, and then you really it really becomes
a legitimate world championship.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
They taking a page of the ice q's book.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Now, I don't think so. I think you're under again.
I would expect us to win, but I think it
would be. It's it's worth maybe looking into it, and
we'll see if Adam Silver is doing that. Let's see
what the listeners think. Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
Would you like to see like a I guess, a
literal World Championship where the NBA champion, in this case

(16:52):
the Celtics would play the euro League champion in a
seven game series. I would say, Martin, it certainly should
be more than a one in one game. It would
need it would need to be a series because it
wouldn't be fair, I mean, wanting done who anything can happen,
but it would need to be like a series, which

(17:12):
I think would increase our chances of winning as much
as we already are would win. But I think if
you did it, that have to be how you did it,
and that does complicate it because it would be tougher,
you know, just from a time frame standpoint. When do
you do this? All right? Eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox?

Speaker 8 (17:32):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (17:33):
World literal World Championship NBA champ versus EuroLeague Champ? You
down for it? Or is it? Is it nonsense? Your thoughts? Next?
Oh couple, Chris and Martin.

Speaker 3 (17:43):

(19:10):
I don't know if that I need to say that,
cause you know, when you're doing an act. I don't
know if that no, but I will take that literally
and think you want to talk about rapid.

Speaker 5 (19:19):
What was rapid was the way Elijah hopped up out
of here behind this social media post and dispatched of
the bat in a way really that was safe for
all parties. The bat survived, we all survived, and Elijah
came out.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
What do you like a hero?

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Right?

Speaker 1 (19:34):
What do you do? He did something with a held
it up in a trash can, held up Why didn't
you do that? Martin?

Speaker 5 (19:40):
I was too bitchy telling you how dumb this idea
was that you you're trying to pict you the last
fifteen minutes.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
Well, let's see what the listeners think. Eight seven, seven
ninety nine on five.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
All right, Kyle and Virginia, you're first up on the couple.
What you got my friend?

Speaker 7 (19:54):
Hey?

Speaker 8 (19:54):
How you doing?

Speaker 4 (19:55):
Guys?

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Good? Good good?

Speaker 8 (19:57):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
I will have to say first that the show is
better missing Robb than missing Chris.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
So, oh wow, I think it Rob Anyway, it's trash
talking Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
I suppose right there you go, there you go.

Speaker 8 (20:14):
I have to agree with you, Martin. This is a
dumb idea.

Speaker 10 (20:17):
I don't think it'd be a contest.

Speaker 8 (20:19):
However, I think would be a better, more competitive, uh
game or series would be if we take the United
States players against the whole world. I think that would be.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
More Now you have my attention. Well we've talked about
that with the All Star Game, and I gotta be honest,
I don't want to see it. I'm not sure it
would end well for the United States now. Maybe right now,
but take when Lebron's done and STEP's done.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
And Kad's I'm not so sure, And I agree.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
I will say this, it would it is not in
the NBA's best just to pursue something like this, like
a literal world champion, because it would just out of
it just is the natural order of things. It would
be little, not be little, but it would lessen the
NBA championship, you know what I'm saying, Martin, like, because

(21:16):
that would just be almost like a conference championship. Like Okay, now,
you go to you won the NBA, but the big
thing is winning the world, you know, so it's not
in their best interest. And if the other league's ever won,
then you know it takes away from the NBA. So
I agree it's not the best interest.

Speaker 5 (21:34):
Can you pull the sound of yesterday when Chris was
talking about I'm from the airway rather the fighters fight each.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Other, right and Yellow Belly? No'm just playing No. I mean,
I'm saying, I'm just saying it's not their best interest,
but I'm saying I'd like to see it. I mean,
I don't work for the NBA. Let's get and we'll quit.

Speaker 5 (21:49):
Paul and Bakersfield, you're on the odd couple, yep, yep.

Speaker 10 (21:56):
Hey man, Chris just mentioned that he's thinking it would
take away from the NBA. I disagree with that. I
think it would actually add as that because it would
it would cause more viewers to want to see the game,
because now you're looking at everybody around the world, and
if you have to take the title World Champions, then
you would need to play other players or the basketball

(22:17):
teams in the world. And I think if you did
do something like that, I think instead of a seven
game series, you have to look at the guys that
have to come back next year, the next season and play.
I think you should make it a three game three
the best side of three. I think that would add
more everything to the game, or the best side of
five at the most. So I think that would be
a great idea for the NBA team to win the

(22:40):
finals and they come over and play and play other
teams in the world.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Well, I think I think you're saying from a business perspective. Now,
Remember the world does see NBA games like they are
on all over the I mean, and maybe not every
single you know, country, but they're on throughout the world
for the most part. Sure, And when I say something
to lose, if the NBA loses whatever to lose the series,

(23:07):
it can't rightfully lay claim to saying it's the best
league in the world anymore, and at least not for
that year, you know. So that's where I mean it
could it could have something to lose, all right. E
From Salims around the corner, we'll ask him about this
as well.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
But first, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk

right dot Com studios. Our next guest has the music
former NFL offensive lineman now Fox Sports Radio Weekend superstar.
You know him. Well eat from Salim.

Speaker 8 (23:48):
Whatever bros are y'all doing, we are good.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Martin is in for Rob. We gonna get right to
it because we're getting you on late.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
Rob.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
Martin and I were just talking about, you know, and
you've heard Noah Lyles and some of the NBA players
go back and forth about a world championship, and I'm saying,
you know what, it might be time the world has improved.
I think we would win. I think the NBA is
definitely the best league because it actually has the best
players in the world, regardless of country. But why not

(24:19):
have the NBA champion this year? It'd be the Celtics
face say, the euro League champion or whatever leagues are
deemed to be on that level. Uh, and that would
be like a literal world champion. I get it. It
doesn't help the NBA. They gain nothing from this and
it can hurt them if we lose. But what are

(24:40):
your thoughts on that?

Speaker 8 (24:41):
Well, I just don't see the point of it. Number one,
because the NBA is the pinnacle of of of lea
of all the year. All the best euro team players
they come to play, they want to play in the NBA.
They want to get drafted into the NBA. So why
would the crowning a achievement your goal to get to

(25:02):
the NBA. Why would that collection the NBA champion now
go play in a lesser league or against a lesser
league champion. That's like the NFL. The winner of the
Super Bowl going to play the winner of the USL
the USFL, right, like, why would you do that? And

(25:22):
everybody in that league is trying to get to the
to the NFL, just like everybody in the euro leagues
are trying to come over and get drafted in the NBA.
So our collection, our best team, said the Celtics this year,
if they were to play the European champion, that would
be like, you know, college playing a really good high school.

(25:45):
It doesn't because.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
We always have more talent, and we would clearly have
more talent, but that we don't always win.

Speaker 8 (25:55):
Yeah, But what I'm saying is no one is looking
for that. That's a bigger thing no one is looking.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Team, I might start squawking if I'm a EuroLeague and
I get it, just like ice Cube is trying to
get attention for his league. If I'm a euro League team,
I might be like, look, we want y'all. We're not
talking champion, are you? Yeah, just like Alabama.

Speaker 8 (26:22):
But that's like, that's like my son, my ten year
old talking trash to me, talking to me, he can
beat me in the backyard of basketball. Okay, man, I
got you. I get it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe I'll
let you. If we're playing twenty one, you can sneak
one out. But if I really I always tell my son,
I said, you want easy, medium or expert, right, so

(26:45):
whenever we're playing one on one, So one day, you
know it's easy, I'm just doing whatever. Then this medium,
and then he wanted an expert. I'm slapping the ball
in the pool, coming side. He man, he crying to
the to my wife, don't bother. I'm filing him. I'm
not saying like all kinds of craziness. So that's literally

(27:06):
what that would be like. Man, I get it.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
I think look, I think we win. I think we
got the best league, clearly. But I think y'all underestimating.

Speaker 8 (27:17):
Now to your point, and I know you got of
course that, Martin, But to your point, the top three
vote getter for MVP, none of them are American, right,
MVP for the last five years, none of them six years,
none of them have been American born players. So I
understand what you're saying, but those are.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
One offs, like they are playing in the NBA. So
that's why, again we know we got the best league.
But I'm just saying a team, you know, and what
we see every game in the Olympics, we have the
most talent. This year we're stomping people, but even years
we don't stomp them. But it's still they could the
way they play first, the way we play, you know,

(27:56):
that type of thing.

Speaker 8 (27:56):
So but yeah, I k everybody on our teams are
all stars. They're all stars. Everybody on the Olympic team
is an all star, every single person. So when you
play certain like with Serbia, they have nicolai O Kachins
the MVP of the league, but they just have him.
Now France is different, right, Canada that Canada?

Speaker 1 (28:18):
But yeah, man, that was good.

Speaker 8 (28:21):
But Victor woman Yawa, he's a problem. Brother. Let me
tell you that he is a serious problem. Yeah, because
because because the Canada team was stacked, they got Canadian dude,
I didn't even know. I'll just do Canadians.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
They tripping the right a lot of those dudes.

Speaker 8 (28:36):
Yeah, man, they not like us. We don't be knowing
that until the whole step he from.

Speaker 5 (28:43):
I wanted to ask you though, because Joel Embiid was
leading the team of scoring at the end of the
first half, didn't play at all on the second half.
And there's been people going back and forth about the rotations,
most notably to me at least Draymond Green saying yester
or two days ago saying that he felt that it
looked like Steve Kerr was trying to quote cover his tracks.

(29:03):
You got about a minute. What do you make of
Draymond Green criticizing his NBA head coach about the Olympic rotations.

Speaker 8 (29:11):
Well, that that's obviously there's something deeper there. He's trying
to He's he's poking at as Steve Kirk for another
reason in terms of covering his tracks. I mean, the
international game is very flowing. It's very up and down,
up and down, up and down unless you have size, right,
So Joel Embiid through his own play, his own actions

(29:33):
was lumbering. Right. He wasn't as fleet of foot as
a Bam or as Anthony Davis, who was, so you had.
The international game is transition basketball, so you don't need
an cider unless the first game they played against Serbia,
he started and he was banging with Nikolaokid, you can
use those foules, you can make a tough form. But

(29:53):
in terms that Steve's Kirk job is to put the
best lineup based on who we're playing in the needs
of the team at Draymond knows that better than anybody
because how they won four championships. He will change the
lineup whenever he needed to. But if anybody will change
the lineup in that situation, will be Steve Kerr.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
All right, that is our man e from Salim, short
but sweet. We appreciate it.

Speaker 8 (30:21):
Brother, Thank you. Man stup cutting into my time.

Speaker 7 (30:23):

mentioned that we may have even mentioned ourselves Martin that
France beat Canada earlier today to advance to the semi finals.
The final four, if you will, Canada was viewed. You know,

(31:33):
Shake Gilgers, Alexander, Jamal Murray, Dylan Brooks, what begains didn't
play right? Yeah, you thought they would be be tough
and they got beat. They don't even get to the
final four. France takes them out. But the big story
coming out of that is the are the struggles of

(31:54):
Jamal Murray. He had seven points, five boards, one assist,
three turnovers on three of thirteen from the field, and
as a whole, in these Olympics, Jamal Murray, who a
year ago was the Cats me out.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
He's averaged just six.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Points per game in these Olympics, shot seven for seventeen
from two, two for fourteen from three, which is fourteen
percent and just twenty nine percent overall. And really, Martin,
you'll remember this. This goes back to the playoffs. He
was not himself against the Timberwolves in the second round.

(32:35):
He only averaged eighteen points, shot forty percent from the floor,
thirty three percent from three. And even before that against
the Lakers that this is kind of a snock on
the Lakers that with their second best player, Denver still
without him playing well, still took the Lakers out. He
did average twenty three and seven seven assists, but he

(32:57):
shot forty percent from the field twenty nine percent from
three point range. And here's the kicker. He is actually
in contract negotiations with the Nuggets for a contract extension,
and some people are saying, you know, is this going
to affect those negotiations? Where are you at on this?
Do you think they should affect the negotiations the Nuggets

(33:19):
are happening with him no, I don't think so.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
I do think that he has to figure out whatever
to borrow phrase from you, whatever supernatural funk he may
be in from.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
Last postseason leading into this, those things happen, Martin. He
also might just need some rest in some time off.

Speaker 5 (33:37):
And I do think that the prospect of playing in
the Olympics when you're trying to secure what will be
generational wealth in the day job, for lack of a
better term, might be a little distracting. But I ultimately
think that this will have literally no impact whatsoever on
Jamal Murray's contract negotiations, not any more impact the playoff series.

(33:59):
The playoff the way that ended would have much more,
significantly more, if not all, of the impact on contract negotiations,
then the Olympics would.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
I'll put it to you like this.

Speaker 5 (34:09):
Let's say that Jamal Murray wasn't the player that he
was in the postseason the year that Denver won the title,
and all of a sudden, had had an average postseason
that time in Denver went to the Western Conference finals
or whatever, even won the finals. But he was average, right,
He wasn't the Jokich's crazy partner the way he was
that finals run. And then came into this fund and

(34:30):
came into this Olympics and was the best player on
the court.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Do you think the Nuggets would then max him out? No, exactly,
because you're not playing against NBA level competition every game. Exactly.
Here's the thing, and your your your opinion is smart,
and you probably are right. But if I'm the Denver Nuggets,
I'm gonna be honest, I am thinking, okay, because here's

(34:57):
the thing, Martin Jamal Murray. It's not like he's not
under contract for another year. They've got him locked up
for another like he's playing. He's under contract this upcoming
season for thirty six million dollars. I don't have to
pay him right now. I can wait until next summer.
Now the money may be more next summer. Yep. But

(35:21):
he's a MAX guy. I mean, we're talking about a
Max guy. And so on top of him struggling in
the playoffs and that we get it, he seemed to
be banged up and now struggling in the Olympics, and
there have been no reports about him still being injured.
I also look at Martin. He played fifty nine games
this year. He played sixty five games last year. He

(35:44):
didn't play at all the year before that. He played
forty eight games before that, fifty nine games before. You
know what I'm saying, Like, on top of him struggling,
he is injury prone. So if I'm Denver, I'm probably
look and it's sticky because you don't want to upset
him and get him on out of right the right
head space. But I really would want to wait and

(36:08):
now and again. Not that I think this is that
big of a deal, but I'm just like, I don't
have to pay him now.

Speaker 5 (36:15):
I get that, Chris, Like, at this point, if you're
this is like a Lakers out of the bubble ass
tear down.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
You've lost Bruce Brown, You've lost Casey. He's on the
roster for next year. It's not a tear down.

Speaker 5 (36:29):
No, I'm not going anywhere if you don't extend him
now when you still will, but I'll.

Speaker 1 (36:33):
Be able to pay him more than anybody else, not
like the NFL, more than anybody else.

Speaker 5 (36:39):
I would look around if I'm a fan of the
Nuggets to be like, what happened to my team?

Speaker 3 (36:44):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
I might, I might be patient. You know, all right,
it's the odd couple we got an hour left y'all
know what to do. Two hours left. Keep it locked.
