Hall of Fame. Lamar Jackson drafted in the second round,
right last picking first all right, last pick of the
first and guess what, you know, how many teams passed
on him and it and this guy's won two MVPs
and more to go. You know, like like, so, I

But you're writing checks everybody who's drafted, and top quarterbacks

like whatever it takes, I'm fired up. This is how
gona be. I'm gonna make you pay for it, just
because that's how I have to be wired and locked in,
and I think that's what he's doing. The only thing
I would say with that is, hey, you don't want
to set the tone for you're going to be that guy,
especially remembering the quarterback position is different than any other

position because you are the face of a franchise. You
become the spokesman for a franchise, You become the embodiment
of a franchise, and so you don't want to necessarily
have folks think, oh, he can't run this organization. And
I don't think it'll all of a sudden he'll drop
from top to top thirty. But maybe you would have
went one, but they feel like they're gonna go with
somebody else. Maybe you were gonna be you know, but

they decided to go with you know, whether it be
Shador Sanders or another pick because they feel like, oh,
he doesn't have that it factor quarterback factor, you know
what I mean. Oh he's a little too brash for
my liking. That's the only thing that could potentially happen
from this. But I get the young fella being confident.
I get the young fella saying I'm the best player

in this draft. I'm the number one pick, I'm the
best quarterback, and you're gonna regret picking me. I like
that picking regret not picking me. I like the energy,
I like the confidence. But again, there's a tone in
which you can say where I think you can get
the same message across.

Yeah, I don't know. I mean, it's not the end
of the world. I'm not Yeah, no, my god, you
know what I'm saying.

And if the team loves and believes in him, that's
their guy, right, But it does give you, like if
they remember, like let's say there's there said there fifty
to fifty on another prospect to be like that, and
you gotta pick one that could be the thing that
makes him go. Now he's down forty eight to fifty
two in favor of the other prospect, right, because you
gotta start nitpicking. Oh he throws out not quite as strong,

or you start and it's that close between prospects.

listen to that. They should just be confident in what

out together. And when I tell you about some trash
talking between you would think they hated each other by

Dodgers spring training this last season. I was there out
there and it was obviously show hail Tony, and it
was just ridiculous how many people came from literally all
around the world this year. The big thing was a
couple of days ago getting to see him pitch out there.

What was that like? What had you guys been kind
of reporting on him? Me? Think what did he throw?
Like fifteen to twenty pitches?

He threw twenty two pitches today, the splitter and the fastball,
and he was surrounded by at least seventy five maybe
one hundred for front office, coaching staff, players, Dodger personnel,
all gathered around Hind Home Play.
Speaker 6 (26:12):
Watching Sasaki pitch. And it was a spectacle to see
all the media attention is out there. You know, Kevin,
you mentioned it with with Otani, it's one thing, and
now you've got three Japanese superstars on a South Korean
second baseman. Is it is at an all time level.
I've never seen anything like the media attention that the
Dodgers are getting right now, and for Sinsaki, he is

all the focus because they went out and they won
him in that bidding contest in essence to have him.
Simon's a free agent and they're expecting a lot out
of into this rotation.

Tim, I hate to be the bearer of bad news
here we go, but I'm going to be on the
record to say the Dodgers will not win the World.

Here's why you're wrong. Because teams coming back that next
year have a hangover. They got maybe the same roster.
Maybe they don't have this good a roster as they
did the year before. Maybe they caught lightning in a
bottle and had a good October. The Dodgers have more
talent this year, double the counts than they had a
year ago, because they got guys back from injuries. I
remember they were down to one and a half start

in October. They were in a World Series they almost
swept from the Yankees with one and a half starters
and all bullpen relievers pitching their lights out in October.
Now you have all the starting pitching guys coming back
from injuries. The free agent market, you were really good
at going and bolsting your bullpen and bringing in guys
who combined from amost sixty stays a year ago in
Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott to go along with the
(28:22):
bullpen that you break pretty much brought back everybody besides
Daniel Hudson. This team is stacked, Rob. They can have five, six,
seven injuries. Knock on what that doesn't happen.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
But it's not just the injuries. People might not perform
the way that they did. I mean, Tim K, I
hear you. But this is also the team that a
couple of years ago, Mookie Bets and Freddie Freeman have
one hit in a postseason series.

Okay, So I'm just saying yes on paper doesn't mean
it translates in the postseason. Doesn't mean you can't have
a bad ten days or a week or a bad start,

They went three to one against the Dodgers and blew
it last year, but they had the Dodgers down. Do

the game that they look like it was all wrapped
up and they choked, but they were right in it.

I wouldn't say that. What did know? But on paper
I didn't say that. That's not how it's won. And
that's what I'm trying to say that to you. Why
it can't it happen again? Though it's hard, but it's

beat everybody, sweep everybody in every series. And we shouldn't
even watch because the Dodger are gonna win the World Series.

What we realize is the regular season doesn't mean as
much in any sport now because so many teams give
to the postseason. So one Dodgers getting into the Tournament
of October. They're so deep and so talented, there's no
team that can beat them in a seven game series.

say that. You can't say that.

Well, but if it's three to three, it could be
that's the one game that they lose, or show Hay
has a bad night at the play, or it hits

You can't sit there and say that there's no way

Somebody on social media was like, man, we're gonna hear
from Tim Kates. Haven't heard from him since Tony Bruno

Yeah, I was with twenty for three years and almost
three years at Fox Sports Radio Into the Night with
Tony Brunos seven pm to ten pm Pacific Standard time
every night Monday through Friday, and then at a lot
of good times there in the old Sherman Oak studios.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Man, all right, well we'll shoot gotta have you on
right now, Man. Today this is game one with the
Dodgers spring training this last season. I was there out
there and it was obviously show hail Tony, and it
was just ridiculous how many people came from literally all
around the world this year. The big thing was a
couple of days ago getting to see him pitch out there.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
What was that like? What had you guys been kind
of reporting on him? Me? Think what did he throw?
Like fifteen to twenty pitches?
Speaker 15 (25:57):
He threw twenty two pitches today, the splitter and the fastball,
and he was surrounded by at least seventy five maybe
one hundred for front office, coaching staff, players, Dodger personnel,
all gathered around Hind Home Play.
Speaker 6 (26:12):
Watching Sasaki pitch. And it was a spectacle to see
all the media attention is out there. You know, Kevin,
you mentioned it with with Otani, it's one thing, and
now you've got three Japanese superstars on a South Korean
second baseman. Is it is at an all time level.
I've never seen anything like the media attention that the
Dodgers are getting right now, and for Sinsaki, he is
(26:33):
all the focus because they went out and they won
him in that bidding contest in essence to have him.
Simon's a free agent and they're expecting a lot out
of into this rotation.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Tim, I hate to be the bearer of bad news
here we go, but I'm going to be on the
record to say the Dodgers will not win the World.
Speaker 2 (26:48):

Nineteen seventy five, seventy six, and I know one paper

Here's why you're wrong. Because teams coming back that next
year have a hangover. They got maybe the same roster.
Maybe they don't have this good a roster as they
did the year before. Maybe they caught lightning in a
bottle and had a good October. The Dodgers have more
talent this year, double the counts than they had a
year ago, because they got guys back from injuries. I
remember they were down to one and a half start

in October. They were in a World Series they almost
swept from the Yankees with one and a half starters
and all bullpen relievers pitching their lights out in October.
Now you have all the starting pitching guys coming back
from injuries. The free agent market, you were really good
at going and bolsting your bullpen and bringing in guys
who combined from amost sixty stays a year ago in
Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott to go along with the
(28:22):
bullpen that you break pretty much brought back everybody besides
Daniel Hudson. This team is stacked, Rob. They can have five, six,
seven injuries. Knock on what that doesn't happen.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
But it's not just the injuries. People might not perform
the way that they did. I mean, Tim K, I
hear you. But this is also the team that a
couple of years ago, Mookie Bets and Freddie Freeman have
one hit in a postseason series.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
Okay, So I'm just saying yes on paper doesn't mean
it translates in the postseason. Doesn't mean you can't have
a bad ten days or a week or a bad start,
Tim K. That's what I'm talking about. Are they gonna
win a lot of games?

Are they gonna win the West? Yes? Do I expect
him to get to the NLCS or the chance out
the world, Yes? I do. But he done it. But
does it mean but doesn't mean that it all works out?

If Freddie Freeman had an infield pop up, that World
Series could have been a totally different ballgame.
Speaker 2 (29:20):

Maybe Freddie Freeman is one hundred percent and he gets
a lot better than he did.

He can't hit any better than that. He can't hit

You see Timmy and not even put any respect the
World Series. Ring hasn't even lost his shine yet. He's
already doing it.

Who is gonna beat them in a seven game series?

I'm gonna pick the Padres this year.

The Padres are gonna be sellers of the deadline.

Okay, I just I'm just giving you who I'm picking.
I'm picking the Padre. A know how old's out a

They went three to one against the Dodgers and blew
it last year, but they had the Dodgers down. Do
you remember the home run they had Dodgers Stadium and
the game that they look like it was all wrapped
up and they choked, but they were right in it.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
Don't good? Why what don't you like about the Dodgers?
I wouldn't say that. What did know? But on paper
I didn't say that. That's not how it's won. And
that's what I'm trying to say that to you. Why
it can't it happen again? Though it's hard, but it's
been twenty five years. Were due, okay, right, and they
were due this.

Remember the conversation, Tim Kate, I remember you picking the
Dodgers and then you should have stuck with your pick.

Because you know what Tim said it they had one
and a half starters, and that if you look at baseball, Tim,
I was right to make a change because they didn't
have the pitching, and that's what I thought would be there.

But somehow it worked out now this year to have
all the pitching. But maybe they don't perform in the
big game.

The padres fell apart, and they were healthy in that
series against the Dodgers. They weren't missing superstars. They were
healthy in their rotation.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
So the way you're talking, Tim, they're gonna win one
hundred and forty of the one sixty two. They're gonna
beat everybody, sweep everybody in every series. And we shouldn't
even watch because the Dodger are gonna win the World Series.
No ifans are buds, is what you're telling you.
Speaker 6 (31:09):
What we realize is the regular season doesn't mean as
much in any sport now because so many teams give
to the postseason. So one Dodgers getting into the Tournament
of October. They're so deep and so talented, there's no
team that can beat them in a seven game series.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
There's no there's there's no there's no way you can
say that. You can't say that.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Well, but if it's three to three, it could be
that's the one game that they lose, or show Hay
has a bad night at the play, or it hits
the ball on the screws and they make turn a
triple play, or they get a no hitter from the
other pitcher.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
It's baseball, Tim.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
You can't sit there and say that there's no way
that they're not gonna that they're gonna win for sure.

Come on, man, you know better than that.

I'm I'm they have the best chance.

They're gonna win. They're gonna win. It's it's done. That's

Which that's why I'm shocking a lot of people. You know,
they left.

They love to watch all the Ironman and all that Kelvin.
I went to go see, uh the End Game. I
believe it was the Blowouts, right, And I looked and
I was in the movies. Now I was ten o'clock
in the morning local time. I had an early job.
You know how that goes? Do I look over to
my left, look over to my right. When one prominent
superhero dies in the film, two grown men both my
age crying, shopping stop and I was and I said,

at that moment, you know what, I got enough things
I'm manical about. I don't need this too. But Martin,
so you think you slick? It was the end game,
it was the last one. See it was easy to
do that. You jumped out there crying like their team
just won a chance, lost a championship.
