Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is a couple. I'm Chris, he's Martin.

(00:23):
and columnist for Foxsports dot Com. He'll join us at
the bottom of the hour, so you want to stay
tuned for that as we get ready for the upcoming season.
But speaking of the NFL, let's go to Cincinnati where, Yeah,
Joe Burrow's healthy and that's great, and you put them
in contention just because he's there, but he needs his
(00:45):
weapons and one of them, neither of them is that happy.
I mean, t Higgins got franchised. He wanted out, but
that's not gonna happen. He's gonna have to play on
the franchise. Tag and Jamar Chase. The reports now, Martin
are that he and for those that don't know, most though,
but he is basically holding in. He was a hold
(01:08):
in most of the training camp, so he wouldn't get fined.
He's at practice but not practicing. He did go through
one practice. Zach Taylor thought it was all good, the
head coach and said so, and then Jamar just didn't
practice the next few times. And so now we don't
know what's going on. What we do know, according to reports,
(01:30):
is that Jamar wants apparently reportedly at least one dollar
more or one cent more.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Than Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Justin Jefferson, at thirty five million dollars a year, is
the highest paid nine quarterback in the history of the NFL,
and Jamar Chase wants one cent more than Justin Jefferson,
at least that's according to ian rap report. And then
(02:03):
there was a report last week by Richard Skinner who's
there in Cincinnati as a reporter. He says Chase wants
one hundred and sixty million and that would be that
that have to if he wants to surpass Justin Jefferson,
that would be four years, one hundred and sixty million,
forty million a year. So what do you make of
(02:27):
this situation with Chase and do you think this could
or will derail the Cincinnati Bengals attempt to get a Super.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Bowl I'll say it could derail the Cincinnati Bengals attempt
to be a dynasty.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
I don't think it'll impact this year, right, I think
this year.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Because Jamar Chase again, he's still going in the year
four of his rookie deal. It's not like a situation
where he's like, like, are you KRASHETI lamb, We're going
into the fifth year option legitimately one year left on
the contract, Like we got figure something out now, because
I mean, really you could. I mean you could take
the fifth year option, then you could franchise him, and
you could franchise him again. So really we're talking about
(03:08):
years left on the contract. Just a question of how
much of the is the team you're trying to pay
up front as opposed to paying down the line. That's
why I say it's it's concerning for Cincinnati attempt to
try to be a quote unquote dynasty, right because Jamar Chase.
This year is just kind of I say, I told
you on Wednesday, I would tell every every wide receiver
(03:31):
that I had that was close to that mark of
you know, you could reset the market. I'm not playing
I'm not coming to training camp for year four. I'm
just not gonna do it, because if you really believe
in me, you'll extend me. You'll extend me now, and
then I'll be there, right, and it didn't end up happening.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
What do you think Chase should do if they don't,
Because Mike Brown, you know, you can call him cheap,
you can call him you know, a guy that stands
on whatever his principles are, but.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
He's not known to budge a lot.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Right, So let's say that, and I think it's very possible,
if not even likely, that Jamar Chase doesn't.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Get a contract this year.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Then if they're not gonna give Jamar Chase a contract
this year, then they should trade him. They should put
Jamar Chase on the market and get them by because
if you're not, because here's the thing. You could get
him now for what you said a sent more than
Joe Jefferson.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
You would get him cheaper now than next year. I
say exactly.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
You get him now there thirty five million dollars a
year average annual value, but you spread it out over
the entirety of the deal that he already had. So
if you signed a four year extension, it's really a
six year contract because it would be next year, you
after that, then the four years on top of that,
so you can spread that number out you or you
could do what the Dallas Cowboys are doing right now
with Ceedee Lamb and eventually Dak Press. But I'm saying
(04:52):
say that much more for him. I'm saying Cincinnati has
the leverage. If Jamar Chase doesn't play, he doesn't get paid,
he doesn't accrue another year toward free agency. Now, if
he wants to fake an injury, I guess he could
do that.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
But and I'm not saying they shouldn't pay him.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
I'm just for the sake of discussion, right, I wouldn't
trade him.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
If I'm Cincinnati, if I'm.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Expecting him to play, Like, dude, look, you're under contract.
I'm expecting you to play. You Look at Justin Jefferson
and Brandon I well, Brandon Aiyuk, you know, and all
these guys who are who have played four years all right,
Chase has only played three. So and I don't you know,
Cincinnati again, they're they're cheap at times, but you know,
(05:42):
they could say, look, we'll take care of you.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
After the fourth year. We're not gonna do it now.
But I think Ushaw. I think they are two things
that play there. Front.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
One, Jamar Chase's agent is like, hell no, you won't.
I see what you just did to t Higgins. I
see where the market's going. Take care of me now.
And then secondly, we say Cincinnati is cheap well historically,
but they did just sign Joe Burrow to a.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Record breck quarterback, right.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
I mean, when you look at the other scenarios that
we're talking about, justin Jefferson Brandon Aiyuk, you know what
those two guys have in common right now, quarterbacks on
rookie deals. At the time that that deal was signed,
Joe Burrow was not there. Joe Burrow is making big
time money right now. So if this is an organization
that if you're not going to extend him now, then
(06:27):
to me, it's just becomes more and more bad business
to continue to not to extend him. So if you're
not going to do it, you might as well try
to record.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
You're assuming they're not going to do it, and that's
a decent assumption considering their history. But I'm just saying,
I don't get if you're not gonna pay him this
year trading, why in the world would I trade him
he's a great.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Receiver, because it comes down to I agree, there's no
doubt about him being a great receiver. I'm not trying
to push that back at all. I think he's the
top three guy.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
He's just saying I don't out of like it's the
same thing.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
And the Niners obviously ended up paying Brandon Ayuk, but
they clearly got to a point where when they came
out this week and they were like, he's healthy, he's
been cleared to play, he can play, like they weren't trading,
and they did talk with teams obviously, and he turned
down some of those trades, but they ultimately realized, look,
(07:23):
he's gonna play, and he's gonna play here. And I
just I'm just saying that if I'm the Bengals, I'm
not even and I don't think they'll even think about
trading Jamar Chase. We've had They've had several players including
t Higgins, say they want out and who end up playing.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
But you just don't have any leverage.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
I guess, like I said, if he wants to faken injury,
but hopefully wouldn't do that.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
I just from the Bengal side of things, Chris from
Jamar Chase to side.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
I think he will play, and I think eventually he
will get he will be reset the wide receiver market,
whether or not it's in Cincinnati or not.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
So I don't I don't think he will play. I
don't be I mean unless they look.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Are the Bengals so cheap that if they were to
win the Super Bowl this year, they just coast on
that and say, Okay, we're not paying Jamar, We're paying
Burrow and that's it, And maybe they fall back to
the bottom, maybe because you know, like their history is
that they are cheap. But I'm just saying I don't
think Jamar has the leverage to the point where they
(08:30):
have to trade him.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Well, he doesn't.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
But it's not about even to me, like Jamar saying
that like that leverage, the idea that they're it's just
bad business.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Chris, like, if you're not gonna yeah, I agree with that,
but the other thing three years. But the other thing
is you're gonna pay after that.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
If you're gonna pay Joe Burrow at the rate that
you're paying at top three average annual value in quarterbacks
at the time, to deal with sign number one at
the time deal with sign you're almost essentially it's two
ways to look at You could do the Cowboys thing,
which is what they're doing right now, or he can
do what the Chiefs did with Tyreek Hill. Move on
from him, save that cap space, and rebuild your team
around your quarterback. Not saying that obviously Jamar Chase better
(09:10):
for your offense. Tyreek Hill better for your offense, but
you take a step back on the necessarily the flamboyant
or flashy side of what you could do offensively to
rebuild some of those roster spots with rookies or lower
paid players so you can be able to afford other things.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
But again, here's the again, CD Lamb has played four years.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
I'm sure Cincinnati is like these guys have all gotten
paid after four years, Jamar not three. If Jamar wants
to be the top play paid play receiver in the league,
he will be if he wait. Look, if they give
him a deal this year, maybe he'll pass Justine. If
they give him a deal next year, he'll definitely pass Justin.
(09:53):
So I'm just saying I agree with you in that
it could be viewed as bad business and all that.
I just don't agree when you say, if they're not
going to pay him now, then trade him. I don't
think their backs are against the wall like that where
they have to MOVEE.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Well, I just I have three hundred and sixty days
from now. I feel like we're gonna be having the
same conversation. Should the Bengals what should the number be
for Jamar Chase? And there will be a group of
people saying, if you didn't want to pay him the
thirty six million dollars that is gonna cost per year
to keep them, then you should have done something else
with him, like just holding on to just for the
sake of holding on, knowing that you're gonna end up
(10:32):
losing him for nothing.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Like when they don't know that, they might be they
might be willing to pay him next year. They might
just be like, look, you're gonna play four years at
least before we extend your contract.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
I not agree with me, So I'd rather do it
now and get a cheap Yeah, you can do it
now and it'll be cheaper long long term. I agree
with that.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
I'm like I said, the only thing I disagree with
you on is if they're not gonna pay him this year,
they should trade him. That's all I'm saying. There's no
reason to trade him. I think he's going to play.
He basically has to play, and he's trying to make
a statement, and I get it, and maybe he'll get
his money. Hopefully he gets his money. I don't have
any problem with him getting his money. But I'm just saying,
(11:13):
if I'm Cincinnati, under no circumstances am I trading him
this year? Their chances are too good to do something special,
and he is necessary for them to do something special.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Look, if you got a Lamborghini and you can't afford
the insurance in the note, you should sell it before
they come and repo.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
It's not about them not being able to afford it.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Well, you don't if you don't want to pay it whatever,
however it boys, you're not gonna pay next year, you know.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
That's all I'm saying. I mean, I hear you. Just
even if they're not gonna pay him next year, I mean,
real talk, did I still want him for this year?
I need him for this year.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
I'm going all in this year to win the super Bowl,
and Jamar's a key piece. I'm not trading even if
they're playing this. You know what we're not gonna be
able to pay him long term.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Yeah, still I got him. Now, it's called a contract.
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
I wouldn't pay him either, but I also, I mean
I wouldn't trade him either. But also he would have
been a camp with me all summer because we would
have got this deal done. Like I would have got
this deal. I got a top three guy at the position.
I'm gonna go ahead and lock him in like that.
And that's how you to me, that's how you win.
If you win paying a top three guy like he's
a one guy, you pay a top seven, top eight
guy like he's the top one.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Guy, then you can get in some trouble.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Yeah, I mean, you know, there are a lot of
ways to win Tyreek Hill. Like you said, they traded
him and they just got Patrick Mahomes who's on the
level by himself.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
But all right, it's The Odd Couple.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Now we're up to sixty percent off and free shipping. Martin,
Let's go to the WNBA right.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Now as we speak, the Indiana Fever, of course, led
by Caitlin Clark, are taking on the Chicago Sky led
by Angel Reese. Both of them are rookies and battling
for Rookie of the Year, and people are in an
uproar because in ESPN's latest poll they have Angel ree
(14:41):
rated as the number one rookie. A lot of that
is based on their PR and analytics, which really highlight
and emphasize rebounding.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Angel Reese is the best rebounder in the league.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
She's leading the league with twelve point nine a game,
and she is the first player in WNBA history to
post three straight games with twenty or more rebounds.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
That said, Caitlyn Clark is by far the rookie of
the year.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
She should definitely be the Rookie of the Year. Here's
why I say that, Martin, I don't even think this
your weigh in. But of course, she has resurrected the
league mostly by herself. Angel has had a big part
to do with it too, But Caitlyn is the one
that's driven more of the ratings and things like that,
(15:39):
and the attendance and the attendance and the radies numbers
all show that. But just on the playing court, all right, Angel,
like I said, is leading the league in rebounding, but
her scoring.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Leaves a lot to be desired.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
She's averaging thirteen points a game, which isn't bad, but
she's shooting thirty eight percent from the floor.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
She's a big person, like I would say a big man.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
You know, she's a big yeah, and she doesn't she
has trouble score, you know, at least efficiently. For thirty
eight percent from the floor for a person that plays
near the rim most of the time is not good.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Beyond that, her team is justse eleven to nineteen.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
They're the number eight seed, and they have won only
three of their last eleven games. Now, conversely, Caitlyn Clark,
like Angel, she's leading the league in the category, and
that category would be assist eight point one assist the game,
the only player in the league averaging eight or more assists.
But she's also averaging eighteen points a game, five more
(16:46):
than Angel. Tenth in the league in scoring and doing
it efficiently for a WNBA player. They're shooting percentages are
lower than the NBA, so she's shooting forty one percent
from the floor and more importantly, her team now the
seventh seed, one spot ahead of Indiana. Of Chicago is
(17:08):
fifteen and sixteen, so several games now three and a
half games ahead of the Sky, but they are surging.
They started one in eight. Remember when the league had
them playing, it seemed like every night, and that's an overstatement,
but it was unfair how often they had the Indiana
(17:29):
fever playing.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Now they're on a more regular schedule.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Caitlyn got some rest during the Olympics and they have
now won fourteen or gone fourteen and eight over their
last twenty two games, So they're surging. The Chicago is
falling back, and Caitlyn's numbers overall are just better than Angels.
So to me, Angels having a great year, she would
(17:55):
be Rookie of the Year in most seasons, but right
now it is undoubtedly in my Caitlyn Clark.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
And the thing is like they both have things that
they struggle with. Caitlyn Clark with the turnovers and Angel
reached with the shooting percentages. And you may remember Chris
maybe golly two months now, two months ago, three months ago,
before the All Star break, before the Olympics, for all
of that, I said that I thought the odds were
a little too far skewed towards Caitlyn Clark. But when
(18:22):
I said that, I had the expectation that as Angel
Reese adjusted more and more and more to the w
NBA game, that offensively her shooting percentages would go up
as she dealt with the physicality. The WNBA being a
league in which nobody's dunking in there, there's not like
quote unquote business decisions in the same way that you
(18:42):
see in the NBA that end up, you know. I mean,
you see a guy coming down the lane, he's gonna
dunk on it. Well, I get out the way, like
that's not happening in the WNBA. So every shot at
the rim are more, you know, way more shots at
the rim are contested, right, which is why you see
across the board, not just with Angeline, but with you know,
bigs in the w NBA compared to your average big
(19:03):
in the NBA, you'll see shooting percentage just be a
little bit lower than you would expect if you only
looked at box scores and didn't watch the game. I
thought that she would get better at that, and she
really truly hasn't. And Kayln Clark has kurtails some of
her turnovers a little bit, but she.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Leaves the league with five and a half a game.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
But I mean she was there was She had eight
nine turn of games earlier in the season, right, so
I'm saying, but leading the league at six, you know,
just about six a game, her positives are outweighing a
lot of the negatives that come with those many turnovers.
Whereas Angel rees, if she was shooting better from the floor,
it would there really wouldn't be a hole to point
at in her game.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Yeah, and I and look and I get it. I
would like Caitlyn Clark to cut down the turnovers, and
I'm sure that's.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Something she's working on and you.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Know will improve. But turnovers, in most cases, you don't
want them. Don't get me wrong, But historically the best
players who ever ever, legends who handle the ball a lot,
have a lot of turnovers. Well, I think Chris when
(20:13):
you're talking, I mean Magic Johnson had a ton of turnovers.
Isaiah Thomas had a turn of turnovers, James Harden has
a ton of turnovers, Chris.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
When those are all super high ushious guys, I think
when you're Clark is high uston. Well, when you're talking
about that type of player, I think it goes from
just raw turnovers to assist a turnover ratio, right, Because
you're right, the raw turnovers of Caitlin Clark is gonna
be way higher than a Leah Boften because she's just
handling the ball more, right, So you just look at
the raw number, it's gonna be much exaggerated.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
To me. When you're looking at a person like that,
you gotta look at the ratio.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Yeah, and she's you know eight eight assists the game.
And that's the thing. And I saw it in college,
and I think people really watching the games closely could
see that she was also a great passer. Everybody focused
on her three point shoot, but she is a terrific
pastor as well, and she's showing it in the WNBA.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
But it'll be interesting.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Like I said, I don't want to take anything away
from Angel Reese because she is having a fantastic year.
You know, there were people that called up before they
entered the WNBA, saying maybe they could be like a
Magic and Bird thing and kind of resurrect the league.
And I didn't think Angel was close enough for it
(21:31):
to Caitlyn's class, even though I knew she was really
good to have that type of rivalry.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
But she is. I mean, she is taking the.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
League by storm in terms of rebounding, and like you said,
I do expect her scoring to improve over time as
far as the efficiency. But both of them have been
terrific this year. But it is not to me it
would be a travesty if Caitlin Clark doesn't win Rookie
of the Year.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
No, at this point I had agree. All right.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Henry mckinna, NFL reporter for Fox Sports, will join us
around the corner.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
But first, Steve di Seger with the update.
Speaker 7 (22:07):
Steve, Hello, you guys are not overstating it the effect
that Caitlin Clark has had on the WNBA already. Just
this week there was a WNBA doubleheader on NBA TV.
The first game on Monday got TV viewership of one
hundred and sixty six thousand, then Kaitlin Clark's game over
six hundred thousand, making it the most watched WNBA game
(22:30):
that channel has ever had, and a larger audience than
all but one NBA game this past season on NBA
TV playoffs included, and then they had almost six hundred
thousand for her next game on Wednesday. There It's just
crazy the amount of records that continue to be broken
when Indiana's game specifically is carried on whatever channel it is.
(22:55):
Halftime Indiana Fever leading at Chicago forty seven forty two,
Angel Reese with four point six rebounds so far. Caitlin
Clark for the Fever fifteen points, seven assists in the
first half and only two turnovers. As for college football, yes,
a little more college football Tonight, sixteenth ranked Oklahoma late
in the first half at home leads twenty seven nothing
(23:16):
against Temple Armies lead now thirty five seven over Lee
High with eight and a half minutes to go. At
Michigan State, Spartan's up on Florida Atlantic late second quarter
sixteen to three, and in the second at Duke Blue
Devil's three nothing over Elong coming in in a half
an hour. On FS one, it's Wisconsin hosting Western Michigan.
(23:36):
North Carolina quarterback Max Johnson is out for the year.
He suffered a broken leg last night and had surgery.
As for the Ravens, tight end Mark Andrews, he's back
at practice today. He missed over two weeks after a
car accident, and Baltimore opens the season next Thursday nights
at Kansas City. The Ravens are re signing quarterback Tyler Huntley.
The chief say wide receiver Marquise Brown is not expected
(23:58):
to play in the season opener due to bad shoulder.
Kansas City signed running back samaj p Ryn. The Chargers
gave kicker Cameron Dicker a four year extension, and the
Dolphins gave head coach Mike McDaniel a three year contract
extension through twenty twenty eight. Cocoa Golf won her third
round match at the US Open and a three set comeback.
On the men's side, Francis Tiafo advanced in five sets.
(24:21):
Scottie Scheffler leads the PGA's Tour championship by four strokes
over Colin Morikawa. The Clippers have reportedly given center Ivitze
Zubats a three year extension worth nearly sixty million dollars.
The Indiana Pacers reportedly gave a four year extension to
guard TJ McConnell worth forty five million dollars. Most NBA
training camps open October the first it'll be September. This
(24:44):
weekend to Major League Baseball. The Brewers won the first
of a doubleheader in ten innings today at Cincinnati, five
to four. Milwaukee is shutting out the Reds right now
in Game two for nothing in the bottom of the seventh.
The Braves lead in the seventh seven to one. At Philadelphia.
Phil's third baseman Alec Baum is out with a hand injury. Tonight,
Padres lead ten for at Tampa Bay, bottom of the forest.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve WeLive from thetiereck dot
Com studios. Our next guest is an NFL reporter and
columnist for Fox Sports, Henry mckinna.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Henry, Welcome to the I Couple.
Speaker 8 (25:21):
How we doing tonight?
Speaker 2 (25:22):
We're good man, great to have you. Martin Weiss is
in for Rob Parker. Let's get right to it. And
we saw Brandon Ayuk sign with the forty nine ers
now and so that situation is taken care of. But
let's stick with wide receivers and now go to Jamar Chase.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
How do you see this playing out. I mean, I've
always looked at it, and Martin and I discussed it.
You know, he's going to have to play.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
The Bengals have the most leveraged so it would seem
simple even if they're not gonna sign him. But is
it really that simple? And how do you see this
thing playing out?
Speaker 9 (26:01):
Well? Actually, I'm not so sure the Bengals have that
much leverage.
Speaker 8 (26:05):
I mean, Jamar Chase wants to play.
Speaker 9 (26:07):
Ultimately, but it's say he doesn't end up playing, He's
gonna end up forfeiting depending on how nuclear.
Speaker 8 (26:16):
The Bengals want to go with this situation.
Speaker 9 (26:19):
But that he doesn't want to play in week one,
then he four fits a week's salary.
Speaker 8 (26:23):
His salary is actually not that big. It's like three
hundred thousand dollars. At that point.
Speaker 9 (26:27):
The Bengals that can actually suspend him for conduct detrimental
that's going to cause him a forfeiture of wages of
four more weeks. So he's going to miss five games.
That's about a million dollars in total.
Speaker 8 (26:40):
Who do you think that hurts more?
Speaker 9 (26:41):
The Bengals five games without Jamar Chase or Jamar Chase
down a million dollars I mean Bengals, Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
So.
Speaker 9 (26:50):
Actually, Jamar Chase, I think is sitting with more power
than Cincy in this situation. That's probably why I think
he feels pretty good about I mean, I don't think
of the vibes are good, but I think he probably
feels good about where he's standing in pushing them higher.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Up on it as cheap as they are.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
And there are a lot of people that have dealt
with Mike Brown around the league that say, look.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
Mike Brown is not going to change.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
He stands on his principles whether you like him or not,
and he's not going to budge on this. Do you
think he will ultimately budge and pay Chase because remember,
Chase's only played three years, unlike Justin Jefferson, CD Lamb,
Brandon Ayuk and all these guys who played four before
getting the big contract. So do you think that Mike
(27:39):
Brown and the Bengals will budge or that Chase will budge?
Speaker 9 (27:43):
I think we're gonna see the Bengals play up. I
think it's a tough situation for them though, because like
you're comparing it to Jefferson, you're comparing it to Ceedee Lamb,
and when I was thinking about you know, I wrote
a column on this earlier this week. When I was
thinking about them, those are the content thought of. But
then you look at his statistics and you're like, wait
a second, I mean Jamar Chase only really had he
(28:05):
had fourteen hundred yards this rookie season, that's actually his
best year. And he had thirteen touchdowns incredible numbers, respectable numbers,
but that's not the same as what Justin Jefferson and
Cde Lamb have done as career best seasons, right, Like,
we think of Jamar Chase as as good as them,
but he's not as productive as them yet. And so
(28:26):
I think that's probably where the Bengals are coming from
in why they don't want to actually have his salary
compared to CD or Justin Jefferson for that matter, but
actually like a deal like Brandon Aoks actually like you
just want to see precedent set in the market so
that agents can be like, Okay, fine, CD's was a
(28:49):
little too much, but you know, maybe we copy if
Steel And that's the Goldielock situation that gets this thing done, right. So,
because Justin Jefferson set the bar too high for everyone,
and so I think that actually ended up causing a
lot of these hold in in these holdouts in these
contract disputes. Was was that became sort of like this
(29:09):
unicorn deal or this white whale deal that nobody was
ever going to get or repeat. So we've seen the
deals ever since that one come in lower than the.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Justin Jefferson deal we got.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Henry McKenna on NFL Reporter and Columns for Fox Sports
on Martin Weiss, Henry, what do you think the chances
are then if just twofold, that Jamar Chase is on
a new deal by this time next week, like going
into the week one, or the chances that it gets
to that nuclear you know, conduct detrimental five games out
(29:45):
million dollars fine, uh, I think that will probably be
the worst case scenario offside of him sitting the whole year.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
What do you think is more likely to occur?
Speaker 9 (29:53):
I really think they're just going to make a deal,
Like I said, given given that the youth feel came
together again, it just sort of like gives more footing
for agents to negotiate with teams just to see where
other people are coming in on the market.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
So, but Henry, I wanted me to cut you off,
but I'm just to the point of the IYUK deal.
Do you think if Jamar's Chases camp is sitting there thinking, I,
we're closer to that that thirty million dollar range is
something we're going to be good with or is that
to be closer to the thirty four?
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Like? How far away are they? And ask kind of
a question about how far are they in this conversation.
Speaker 9 (30:29):
Honestly, I haven't been able to get a ton of
information on exactly what where the numbers are or aren't landing.
It's that's generally like because if if one side leaks
like what they want and then they ultimately don't get it,
then they look bad. So how far a part they
are or what exactly they want it's hard to see.
(30:51):
But like you're saying, I mean, I think it's easy
to imagine they want a little more than AYU can
and probably realistically think that they can't get what CD's
at or what CD got, So right in between those
deals is probably where this thing lands. And given the
fact that you know this is one of two receiver disputes,
(31:12):
remember that t Higgins is also wanting a new deal,
like they need to get this done, and I think
it's gonna happen in the next week, right, like it
just it just needs to happen. I think that ultimately
the Bengals are going to have to push more money
on the table than apparently they're comfortable pushing.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
There's been some talk that the receiver bubble, which I
mean obviously there contracts have skyrocketed recently. There's some talk
though that this receiver bubble is going to burst soon.
There's a lot of great receivers out there and more
coming into the league every year.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Do you think that's going to happen as well?
Speaker 9 (31:52):
It's such a reactionary league. Ask me in like three weeks,
four weeks, I was good this rookie classes, right, like
Romano and JNS Malik neighbors, coleman Zavi, you're worthy. They're
all in really big roles in really important offenses or
big markets. Those are the guys that are that are
(32:16):
going to be the leverage against the big deals of
established veterans, because general managers are looking every off season
at free agency and the draft as they're two obvious
building bots. Not to mention the trade market, but but
those are the two markets that they play against each other.
So when the receivers want the big money, the general
(32:37):
managers say, well, Malik Neighbors just put up fifteen hundred yards,
why do I need to pay you, Jamar Chase. And
it's mostly bluffing, right, But it's like millions of dollars
that ultimately come down off of the contract dependent on
you know, how good those.
Speaker 8 (32:51):
Rookie classes are.
Speaker 9 (32:53):
This guy is supposed to be generational, So yes, it
could be a really good foothold for general managers to
start walking down the asking price on mega receiver.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
That's a great point because you know, we see it
now with quarterbacks. Teams want to get a good quarterback
in the draft, so try to win it within those
first four or five years when he's not making a
ton of money. And I think it'll be easier to
find good receivers in the draft that can contribute right
away than it will be for good quarterback.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
So that is interesting.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
If those rookies light it up, you're probably right and
they're gonna teams are gonna start just drafting guys instead
of probably paying these guys thirty million plus a year.
Speaker 8 (33:41):
Yeah, and keep an eye.
Speaker 9 (33:43):
I mean this is like this class is supposed to
be truly special, and we've seen it now multiple years
in a row, where receivers can actually come in make
a big difference in the offenses. I mean, look at
Dave You're Worthy. You guys, you know you did the
injury update in Hollywood Browns is not going to play
in Kansas City week one, Right, who do you think
(34:05):
is going to play that role? It's going to be
You're Worthy, the guy that the Chiefs traded up the
draft that was at Chief camp. They were throwing the
ball deep things, Dave you Worthy as much as they
possibly could, So it'll be it'll be interesting. I mean,
that's another it's like a direct competition point where like
let's say Hollywood Brown and Zavier Worthy both have similar years.
(34:27):
Hollywood Brown is not going to get paid at the
end of his his one year contract, right because because
they have that rookie in place. So that's sort of
like a microcosm of what we're talking about, right.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
All right, that is our Henry mckinna, great stuff, Henry,
We appreciate it, man, Keep up the great work.
Speaker 8 (34:45):
Yeah, thank you. Have a great night, guys.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Yep shop talk is next, Oh, couple, keep it locked.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
It is time for shop.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Talk all right, making his Odd Couple debut.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
I introduced him earlier.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
The producer Ian Roddy Ian welcome, it's you're sorry.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
We introduced the shop talk talk. Yes, sir, shop talk topic,
say that five times? Right?
Speaker 6 (35:31):
Shop top topic, shop top topic? All right.
Speaker 10 (35:34):
Well, today's shop top topic is gator wine. So I
just learned about this today. So if you'd asked me
twenty four hours ago what gator wine is, I wouldn't
have been able to tell you. But apparently it's going
viral right now. It's this TikTok trend. It's gatorade and
cheap red wine. You're apparently supposed to mix them. U
(35:55):
and I guess my My shop talk question to you
guys is, if you were to be sir gaiter wine
at a dinner party, would you think less of the host?
Speaker 1 (36:05):
Well, first of all, it sounds terrible. It sounds terrible.
And not to be honest Martin, to me, it sounds
like something.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
College and high school kids drink. Now high school kids
shouldn't be drinking, but they do.
Speaker 8 (36:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
It sounds like something that college and high school kids drink.
If I went to an adult party and they were
serving gator wine, yeah I would. I would be like,
wait what now if it's a picnic, you know, a
barbecue or something like that, that might be a little
(36:42):
different in the afternoone, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Something like that maybe.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
But if it's like an evening dinner party or something
and as we're eating our meals, you're breaking out gator wine, yeah,
I'm looking at you sideways.
Speaker 10 (36:57):
I actually I also forgot to specify. They say that
it has to be the Glacier freeze gatorade, so.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Definitely high school in college Yeah wrong, I mean anything
other than Glacier freeze is apparently gross, but that but
Glacier freeze is okay.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Oh that I think Chris hit the nail on the
head to say it in a different way. You said
if somebody's serving this at a dinner party.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
The type of.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
People who serve this drink do not have dinner parties.
They have party parties. Right, right, Like, it's not. You
don't get the dinner party until the regular party party.
Speaker 10 (37:28):
So if you're a wine connoisseur friend who was having
a dinner party served this, would you trust them because
they are a wine connoisseur.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
But that's that's not not if they're serving this. Yeah,
it's contradictory, exactly exactly.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
It's like, you know, if I was seven ft tall
at two hundred and undred and seventy five pounds, and
maybe I would have had a great NBA career, but
I'm not, so I won't.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
It is not this is not real. Mary, Where are
you at on this? She's probably had Gator one, but no,
right she she might be one of the inventors of them.
Speaker 11 (38:02):
Well, I'm not even a drinker. That's the funny problem
with this. Yeah, I'm not really, but I think it's immature.
If you give me this, we're gonna fight. You guys
are so closed minded.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
I'm at least I'm sorry Gator wine. Are you even
saying no? It sounds disgusting?
Speaker 11 (38:20):
How much imagine how much like sugar that already is
with Gator it included.
Speaker 10 (38:24):
I mean, I'm looking at an article here from today
Dot com the Today Show, and apparently you know some
some TikTokers who tried to say I in a gross
kind of way, I like.
Speaker 11 (38:33):
It and who you're gonna exactly either are not real
at all.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
The generation ruining this country now, I'm just talking no.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
But I think like I've recently developed an affinity for
sparkling water. I didn't know how good it was, never
had really had it before. I think that probably the
the more you like sparkling waters, as like your beverage
of choice, the less you like things like Gator wine.
Speaker 11 (38:57):
Is supposed to develop the older you get. So Gator
Wine is discussing.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
I'm not a fan of sparkling water. My wife is.
I think it takes like Alca celtser or something. Well,
it depends on I've realized it depends on the brand.
I'll text you the right, the right tough to get
Chris if you if you're.
Speaker 11 (39:16):
Like it's like Olli pop or something like that, lollipops,
like Heffy soda.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
I'm good with regular water. I mean, I'm good with
regular water. I am too, but sometimes you want.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
Something regular wine. I don't need to mix it with gatorade.
So I do like gatorade. I like gatorade, but not
with wine. That just sounds I'm not even going to
try that.
Speaker 6 (39:41):
I like gatorade, I like wine. I'll try him. I'll
always try them together.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
And to give up report and to be clear, this
is the type of wine that comes in bags, not bobbles.
Speaker 6 (39:51):
Right, they say twelve dollars or less. Wine is all right.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
It's the couple an hour left. Keep it locked.
