Athletic We will talk with him a little bit through
some NBA stuff that's all coming up in our number two, Rob,
g can you set the table here? Deon Sanders spoke
about Chador and him slipping the five in the fifth round.
(01:33):
I should say and whatnot. But of course it wasn't
anything that Shador did. It was everybody else.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
That's right, And Rob, one day, I'm gonna get a
portion of your salary for setting the table for all
of these topics.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
But that's what a producer does. That's not what a
producer does. But I appreciate it does all everything before
the show.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
But at any event, Yeah, but that's why you get
extra free sodas.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
And won't admit he'll he'll be at.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Like a like a at a pot eyes and order
a two piece. They'll recognize his name, his voice. Fun
see the jacket that I'm wearing, like you got a
couple of things and they're throwing an extra biscuit or
extra legs.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
Rob, you're making it worse. Rob, Basically I heard working
for straps as you eluded. You will say this has
happened to me.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
I believe it. And I've always like, oh that's so nice.
Oh no, no, I don't want you get in shrouble.
You really like, go ahead and give you.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
No, No, I would find out later when I open my
the Colonel's.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Box, you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Like I say, and I ordered a two piece or whatever,
there's three piece two biscuits.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
I'm like, ah, that's awesome.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
You don't know the list thing that biscuit cost them
point one cysture.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
You know what, No, don't get it twisted. I'm happy
they recognize you and say mallow your show whatever. Now
you know what's unreal?
Speaker 4 (02:49):
I mean, I just heard this Ben Maller, who I
think I'll respect the hot couple. Ben Mallard got the
best fans in all of sports media period, allegedly. I
got to confirm when I talk to these people. They
here today a fan in Canada paid for airfare, room
and board for everyone on their show to do a
Mallard meet and greet over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Wow, that's amazing.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
Hold on, hold on, Rob, the odd couple fans have
been challenged. Rob.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
She just talked them out.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
He just said, y'all need to man up or well,
man up and make sure we are out.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Where do you want to go?
Speaker 6 (03:24):
Rob?
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Where do you want to go? And get us to Vegas?
We want to get flood out. We wouldn't make right.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Like Mary know about, it wouldn't have happened if I
was that fan because I'm not paying the tarots for
Ben malla couple, I'm not paying the talent.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Shout out to Ben mallin the militia. But any event,
as you're talking about Ben Maller loved Ben Mallen. A
couple of fans rob he's taking shot. I am speak
the truth, but any you mentioned it right off the top.
Shador Sanders fell to the fifth round, and if depending
on who you are, it had less to do with
his on field performance and everything to do with him
(04:04):
off the field, specifically the way he conducted himself when
he met with teams at the combine and during the
draft process. According to at least one report, he had
a particularly disappointing meeting with the New York Giants. They
wouldn't say exactly what it was, just that they came
away very unimpressed with him, that he seemed uninterested in
(04:27):
selling himself to the franchise and what he could bring
to them, and the word that was thrown around by
a lot of outlets was unprofessional.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
And then in one of the meetings he had headphones
on him that was alleged.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
So according to Dion Sanders on the latest podcast of
episode of Say What needs to be Said.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Say what you need to say, Dianna is not a
family's reports.
Speaker 7 (04:46):
Take a listen when you sit up there and say
something like he went in a meeting unprepared, like dude,
Shador Sanders, who's had six different coordinators, who has still
functioned and went up, level up every time we brought
somebody new end and you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Tell me every situation.
Speaker 7 (05:05):
You're gonna tell me he had on headphone, Chadors, anybody
know my son? I understand he's a professional, Like he's
gonna go on to meet with headphones on, Like.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yo, come, here's my issue. Seriously, I wasn't in there.
Dion wasn't in there. We don't know, Okay, we gotta
go out of respect of who Dion is. Okay, everybody's
lying on Chador against Dion, A Hall of fame of
one of the greatest football players that played in the
National Football.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
League for sure. Okay, top five athletes history played.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Major League Baseball too, Okay, Like seriously, and the whole
idea that these are fake stories that they put out
a narrative whatever. All these different teams, they have their
own scouts or on people. A report comes out that's
going to chase you if that wasn't your situation or
what you experienced, or if you wanted to pick up
(05:59):
the phone and call dionnor.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Whatever it is, you do you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
I can't buy into the idea that somehow Shador was
wrong and everybody just went on a one report or
some and the anonymous quotes. I wish people would stop this.
This is how you know they don't know anything about journalism.
Some of the biggest stories ever broken and most important
(06:23):
news and information we've ever gotten in this country, or
anonymous sources okay and anything. And the people who are
the bosses at these outlets, they know who said it.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
A reporter can't just put it out. Well, where'd you
get that from?
Speaker 1 (06:39):
I got it from the owner of the team or
the general manager of the team. Okay, then we were
rolling with it, not the guy who's uh working the
door at security who says this.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Like it's vetted number two, which if there was on
a podcast and they were really asking questions if that's
the case and it was.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Made up, and you know, and they just ran with
this report.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Why didn't Tom Brady, who's supposedly his mentor, okay, who
has worked with Shador and knows the kid and all that,
Why did the Raiders pass over Shador five times?
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Because if I.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Was Tom Brady and I was a sixth round pick
and people picked over me, passed on me, and I
see this kid who's a Bonafi, We're supposed to be
number one and he's dropping and I'm the Raiders, tom Brady,
you want to change in the organization, that's where you
change the organization. I don't care what the reports are.
We're taking Chador. He's gonna be our quarterback for the future.
(07:42):
That was on the table and even Tom Brady, rob
g didn't they have five or six picks in the
first five rounds because I know they had multiple in
one round at least, so they.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Passed over him. Come on, be fair.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
People are trying to hold on to their jobs general manager,
scouting directors. Right, it's not an exact science. It's not
and we talked about it before. They're wrong more than
they're right, and they could be wrong on s your door.
But don't act like it's just what one report surfaced
and that was the only thing that was made people
(08:20):
not pick sur Door. First of all, there were only
four teams looking for a quarterback. That's number one. So
twenty eighteen, twenty six teams didn't pass on them. They
didn't want a quarterback, right, it only takes four. And
guess what, Tom Brady not pushing the Raiders to get
him is my validation because he knows the kid.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
How in the world what an extra pick? Did you
just not take a flyer?
Speaker 1 (08:47):
You've been dying for a quarterback with the Raiders dying
for a quarterback, and they didn't do it.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
So I'm just I'm not gonna sit there and buy it.
And I get it. That's his kid, kid. You know
that you have kids. I don't have kids.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
They can't do anything wrong in their parents' eyes. You know, privately,
you'll you'll scold your kids, but you wouldn't do that,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
Yeah, Well, Tom said that he wasn't a part of valuation,
which I don't fully buy.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
I mean, but he worked with him. As I'm saying,
you're Tom Brady, he didn't worry you.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
And I've been say he's a mentor and you're not
a mentor mentor if you haven't looked at him or
evaluate him as a quarter.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
He's saying he has an evaluation team with the Raiders.
That's what he was saying. That was his cop out.
I don't buy that, and that maybe you literally weren't
in the room. Absolutely are, Tom Brady, you have something
to say with that.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
That's just like having a hat in your locker that
says make America great. I don't know, I don't even
know what. I don't know what. Oh is that amazing? Wow? Mega?
Speaker 5 (09:44):
What does that even mean? I don't even know what
that means. No, So a couple of things I think there.
I think what we're witnessing is a little bit of
half truth. What I mean is, so let's say somebody
said he walks in with headphones, and let's say he literally,
like actually walked into the facility with headphones in but
not in the meeting. But it comes out now it
looks like it's in the meeting, but it's you know
how things get misconstrued, Yeah, the kid walk in with
(10:05):
that phone. How about if he walked in with headphone?
That is a possibility Okay, I want to make sure,
but to me, I go back to this. I do
believe a large portion of what we're seeing is in
response to not just shadure Dion. I think there is
a part of people and organizations that were fearful of Dion.
And what I mean by that is we draft him,
(10:27):
but we're playing Joe Blow in front of him, and
Dion is saying Joe Blow shouldn't be starting my shun
and because of it becomes a thing because unlike a
lot of dads and even famous dads, they don't have
a megaphone or microphone like Deon Sanders. The man has
about three different shows on three different streaming apps. He's
massive on social media. He has an entire state of Colorado.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Loving him.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Didn't stop the Lakers from drafting the Alonzo ball. His
dad was out out front. It didn't stop them because
they thought they had They thought they had got well.
But that's what I'm saying with Shadoor, because you would
endure up a loud parent if I got a superstar kid.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
But I'm not worried about whether he's gonna play or
no bar ball. While big in that moment, those handful
of months is not Dion great. I get, I get
what you're saying. So I do think there's an element
of folks like, what if we and Diana is a coach,
does a does the cries become oh is Deon should
be the coach? Should we fire and then have the
son and the father? I think that was a real thing.
I also think just people misunderstanding because now we get Uh.
(11:28):
You got the color analyst who was spoken out about
how great Shador has been, what a great guy is,
how fantastic of a football player he's been so far
in the OTAs and he said, man, he's very confident,
like very confident, but not cocky. And I think people
the misconstrued him. And I was talking to Rogie earlier.
If you saw a video of the number two and
number one quarterbacks we thought would be cam Ward, did
(11:51):
Shador Sanders going at it at a joint training session,
you would have thought them dudes hated each other. It
was the most talking, hardcore. You'd have been like, oh, Mark,
this is intent, my lion, Robgi. It was intent, But
that's just how they are. Shador Deon Sanders, his players,
his sons. He demands nothing but respect from them. So
(12:13):
it is goes against everything we've seen from him to
not be respectful, to hear him not being respectful because
we've had twenty something years of him being that and
a going last point, when you just look at again
what the kid did on the field, it just didn't
make sense, which is why it was such a big
deal that he went down the fifth because if he
wasn't supposed to be drafted higher, or wasn't a better talent,
(12:35):
we wouldn't have had those conversations. What made this one
of the biggest drops in the draft history is that
he was good. He did throw for fourteen thousand yards,
one hundred and thirty four touchdowns to only twenty seven interceptions,
seventy four percent completion rate, one of the worst.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Offensive lines in college football.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
Yet he threw a guy to a Heisman Trophy and
I didn't, and that's why people were shocked.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Then all of a sudden, he went from gonna be
high picked.
Speaker 5 (13:03):
Okay, fine, let's say he's the first round and says
in the first round, say he's early second, dropped down
the fifth.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Robbie just didn't make sense.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
This did make sense that they evaluated him differently because
they looked at a lot of things. I'm telling you
starts the same way. Nobody wanted Tim Tebow around. But
I'm but but I'm talking about when Tim Tebow he
won a national championship in college quarterback. Yeah, yeah, no
Tim Tebow, Like we coming out, we knew he's not
(13:31):
a great quarter Okay, but no, he went to Denver.
They moved up in the draft and wound up costing
the who is it from the Patriots the offensive coordinator,
wound up cost him his job. He moved up to
du mc uh mcdan, Josh moved up, got him. He
(13:51):
won a playoff game against Pittsburgh, right, and still people
because he wasn't that they didn't he wasn't that good,
and then all the other stuff that comes with him.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
In the case of Shador, I do believe that while
he did.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Put some of those numbers up, and I'm not saying that,
there's a lot of guys who are put numbers up.
You have guys in smaller schools. I'm not saying Colorado's small,
but who put up numbers and they still don't get
the look or people don't buy into them. And the
fact that he only beat one rank school and in
some of the bigger matchups against better schools that he
didn't perform that well. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve
(14:26):
a spot in the NFL, but I think the evaluations
early I don't.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
I can't believe that thirty teams with multiple.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
Picks could pass on them if they really believe he's
going to be a star, because that's what you're in
a draft. That is what you're looking for, is that
moment that people are passing on somebody and you're the
one that grabs them. And that's what I'm trying to say.
I can't buy that that all these people went off
(14:56):
of one report and that's not true.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
Believe I believe he is not a clear cut Andrew
Louck type of talent where that was right. But I
think he also the reports that come out, I think
his father being his father and kind of putting him
into place.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
All of that.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
But I think I don't think he had to have
a top ten talent, meaning I don't think hes his
other guys, but he absolutely that had extreme more talent
than the warranted a fifth round pick, and I think
everybody knows that, and I think we're gonna see it too.
And I think he's the starter the started from they're
gonna start because they got went and got him better.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
They got Matt Flynn and paid him a ton of
money in Seattle and guess what. Russell Wilson showed up
and guessed what. They got the job.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
But they brought in hold On, they draw Joe. I'm
answering your question. They brought in Joe Flacco, they brought
in Picky, they drafted Gabriel.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
That's why, if it were just one guy you take
going to start to take the best player because as
a tul Doors you're trying to win. Looking where Browns
are him out a quarterback. Sanders will be the starter
at some point next season.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
And if he's not, then didn't they were right? No
heart if he If he do, he is shad door.
Sanders is going to be their long term starter period.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
I don't think he will be eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox because he will be a It will
be a historic rise from being drafted where he was.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Unless who's the goat?
Speaker 6 (16:25):
No?
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Uh, Joe Montana? Yes, yeah, who's the other goat? No,
there's only north, there's a sixth road. There's the only
week ago. No, Yo, goat yo five five fifth round
Tom Brady. You see Tom Brady and cos split the
dif did you see Tom Brady in college?
Speaker 2 (16:41):
You snap okay eight.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
Seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine
nine six sixty three sixty nine. Uh and his Dion
Sanders being oblivious about why should door slipped in the draft.
We'll continue that conversation next with you. It is The
Odd Couple on Magic City Monday, Rob Parker, Kelvin Washington.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
No, all right, just making sure Cap she don't buy it?
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Right whatever, Cap, It's a transaction with me, That's all
I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Yeah, I we'll give you that for you. That is
that sounds that tracks four.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
Over forty years, tire Reck has been helping customers find
the right tires for hotwood and where they drive, ship
fast and free back by Fredo has a protection with
convenient installation options like mobile tire installation tire rack dot Com.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
It is the way tire bying should be. All right,
go ahead, A seven seven ninety nine on Fox SAT
going on Shador. Everybody's wrong except for them too?
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Is that what us? Three? Yeah? And you take seven
the starter for most of the years in Cleveland, Drew,
just like, uh, who's the Steelers quarterback that you claim?
Speaker 5 (18:17):
I don't know who it is, Rudolph. They ain't got
a quarterback. Feel they should have kept Justini and I
stand by that. And every time we have somebody on
the say no, they should have kept just everybody, and
you are all, oh, yeah, hey, he deled with the team.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
They want to do that. He told you exactly where
Russell Wilson was out and he's gonna do that.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
And where's he at now? How are you Drew in
New Jersey? You're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (18:41):
Drew?
Speaker 9 (18:42):
Hey, guys, I think that this story that Dean is
putting his sake news and they're just trying to clean
everything up. What I will say is, if you want
to be accurate, year one in Colorado won four games,
they played five top twenty five teams. Right, the only
team they beat that was ranked was their first game
that season. They ended up being five and seven, so
(19:04):
that was fake. And then the Pac twelve ended up evaporating,
and somehow all of the West Coast teams are now
playing in the Midwest and the ACC. So that's one thing.
You only played two ranked teams all year. And if
you guys want to say, say their offensive line stuff,
the one thing I will say is this is the
only time I've ever heard an offensive line being talked
(19:27):
about in any college football team ever. What I will
say is Colorado ran the ball less than the Navy
through the ball this year.
Speaker 6 (19:37):
And that's by design.
Speaker 9 (19:39):
They wanted to showcase Travis Hunter, and they wanted to
showcase Shad Or Sanders. Do you want to bet one thing,
I bet you that you will not hear anything about
Colorado's offensive line this year because they're probably gonna run
the ball this year.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
They are because they don't have a Hunters.
Speaker 9 (19:57):
They also had the number one offensive linemen.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Were last year.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Thank you, buddy, appreciated. Andre in Massachusetts. You're on the
on couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
What's up, Drew?
Speaker 10 (20:07):
Hey, how you doing? Thanks for taking the call.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
Listen.
Speaker 10 (20:10):
I have to concur with the previous caller. I think
this is a little bit of Shador and Dion trying
to kind of inoculate themselves, fortify themselves against all the critics.
You know, you don't just drop their number five pick overall?
Excuse me, fifth round pick overall? Excuse me as my
dog kind of gets a little animated here. You know,
it's it's not everybody else, not you. You know, you
have to take a little bit of culpability in the situation.
(20:34):
Else if he goes out there and shine, it's all done.
So he has a golden opportunities, particularly with the Cleveland Browns,
to shut everybody use So there's an opportunity in this
beyond the disrespect you you feel that you were wrong,
go out there year one, earn, earn opportunity to play
shine bright, and it's all sudden, it's all over with.
So I think that's how they should look at it.
(20:54):
Rather than what was me in the world is out
to get me?
Speaker 7 (20:57):
Thanks taking a call?
Speaker 1 (20:58):
All right, thanks a lot. Matt in Indiana under a
couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
What's up, Matt?
Speaker 8 (21:03):
Oh well, hey, thanks for Rob and Calvin.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Appreciate it, Yes, thank you.
Speaker 8 (21:08):
Uh just I think that Dion he he knows where
he's at, and I think he's going to push things
as sass and you know, the most forward he can
for shadur Uh this is just gas on the fire.
It just adds to the limelight and you know, everything
that he has the potential to do. But uh, you
(21:31):
know the position they're in. Uh, Deon's like, hey, all right,
let's take advantage of it right now?
Speaker 2 (21:39):
All right?
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Well, I mean Dion's on the record saying the last
place you want to go as a quarterback was Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
That that that's fact. That ain't no?
Speaker 1 (21:47):
Is that was that misreported? Or is that d On
himself or somebody? That's what he said? You don't want
to go there?
Speaker 5 (21:52):
Oh no, the Bears too. That's funny up there too. Okay, man, man,
how you going that along? Without a four thousand yard passer?
All right, thanks for the calls he got Joe Barr.
You have a great running back that's in twenty twenties.
That's always an impossibility the last twenty five years. Joe
Varden on the Way covers the NBA for the Athletic.

Guys?
Speaker 6 (22:38):
I feel like it's been like four seconds, I know,
and one long ago?
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Was it?
Speaker 6 (22:43):
No? A lot's happened though?
Speaker 5 (22:45):
That has an answer this Rob and I got into it.
I said, I felt like the Knicks over achieved. That
ain't nobody expected him to be six games in the
Eastern Conference Finals, that had a chance to go to
the finals.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Joe. Once you beat the.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Defending champs and you have to pay down by fourteen
with two and a half minutes to go, you go
about to punch your ticket to go to the NBA Finals. No, No,
that was a huge game that they lost, Joe. They
gave they they failed. They were supposed to go to
the finals. I have no other way of saying it.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Where are you, oh man?
Speaker 6 (23:18):
I just didn't like the Knicks all year, and I
just you know, I saw the Pacers against the Cavs
and really thought that the Pacers not only would get
to the finals. You know, I'm not sure I still
think this, but for a while I thought that they
would be hard out in the next round because just
the way they play now, the Knicks did expose some
(23:41):
flaws and they're not healthy right now the Pacers are.
So I do have my concerns, but I can't say
that the Knicks failed. I just think that we kind
of all had slept on the Pacers for a while
and they went forty and fifteen the year like they've
been playing this way.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
That's Joe, I agree, I got that. But Joe, once
you knock off the defending champs. I'm dead serious, Joe.
Listen to what I'm saying. You reevaluate where you are.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
If the Knicks would have lost to the Celtics, okay,
that's the defending champs.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
I wouldn't say that they failed.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Okay, But once they knocked them off, there was the
opportunity for them to get to the finals. Everybody's saying
Cleveland got knocked out, Boston got knocked out, Indiana. Sitting here,
we have the higher seed, we have home court, We're
up by fourteen, Joe, with two thirty eight to go.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
There have been a thousand games in NBA.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
History, and everybody with a fourteen point lead with two
thirty eight to go had one except for one team.
If I'm the Knicks and I'm trying to get to
the next round, I say goodbye to mister Tips and
I go and I hire Michael Malone.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
I do what.
Speaker 9 (24:57):
He's the same coach.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
No, he won the championship. He ate the same coach
he did.
Speaker 6 (25:03):
He also had the best player on the planet.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
But he's won.
Speaker 6 (25:07):
No, no, no, no, no, the Knicks. Listen, if if
the Knicks want to make a move, which I don't
think they should, But if they do want to make
a move, it's got to be for somebody that fits
more to Cat's game, you know, I mean he is
you know, Tibbs is an old school practice all the time,
play defense, you know, you know hard guy and Malone
(25:28):
was the same way. So you know, I will say, Rob,
I will to give you a little bit of room here.
I am a prisoner of the moment and have been
thinking about the entire series and thinking about, you know,
the Pacers winning the first two games at home, seeing
what I saw in Cleveland. You're right in a way
(25:49):
if that series, if they if the Knicks win game
it's a different series. I don't know if they win,
but it's a different series that that.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Game was such a wing. And then Joe, you know
this game two, right, you're down. You have to come back.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Oh well, you get a split and it's okay, and
then you can make it up with a game, right,
win a game on the road, and then you get
home court pack.
Speaker 5 (26:11):
Then they lose game two at home. I ain't never
heard of my life so much on one game Game one.
I know, game one, Yes, I never.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Heard so much on one game that was a game
one you've never seen nobody's giving up a foot. Come up,
I not hear you with fifty second Joe, how many
years have you covered the NBA?
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Have you ever seen that? I'm ste serious.
Speaker 6 (26:36):
No, I grew up. No, of course not. Of course
you haven't seen that. Of course you haven't, I guess.
But the Pacers did it to the casts to not
not as dramatic, but they've been kind of doing that.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
They did it three times, and the next did it
to people not in that fast, but they came back
multiple times. All right, Joe Varden, our guests cover the
NBA for the athletic I keep telling Rob that the
knick's over at Gie.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
You don't want to listen to me. Let's go to
the other conference. They're the Western Conference.
Speaker 6 (26:58):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
We got a team who probably is sitting saying, hey, y'all,
this is what we've been doing all year, blowing everybody out,
winning a bunch of games. Yes, and we keep just saying, Nah,
it's not good enough. They don't have enough stars. They
haven't been doing enough. They got to earn their bumps
and bruises, and now they're sitting in the NBA Finals,
where really only the sixteen seventeen Warriors sit as far
as the amount of wins, how many double digit wins
(27:20):
and all those stats are they just insanely great and
we just don't want.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
To give it to them.
Speaker 6 (27:25):
Joe. Well see, I don't even know if we don't
want to give it to him. I mean, I've been saying,
and I think I almost said this the last time
we talked to your point. For weeks and months, we've
been trying to find anybody else, whether it was the Lakers, Okay,
the Warriors get through, Okay, you know, so on and
so forth. But every time I watch the watch the
(27:48):
thunder play, I come away saying they are the best team.
They are the deepest team. They play like the Pacers,
except they're deeper. Shay Gilsis, Alexander is awesome, They're tough.
So I am not that like I have not been,
so I have not been as guilty of looking for
(28:10):
somebody else as others have. I have been blown away
almost every time that I've seen this underplay. And I
know they got beat by forty three in Game whatever.
I only saw a little bit of that game, but
they dominated that series.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
Other than that, Yeah, I mean, they've just they've dominated
pick a game pretty much this entire season.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
And they have the MVP.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
So so uh the NBA Finals. I mean, we know
you want bigger markets. It's just it has nothing to
do with the players. It's just smaller markets. This finals,
regardless of just won't wait. It just won't wait because
you have two of the smallest NBA markets, Indiana and
(28:53):
Oklahoma City.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Am I right, Joe?
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Like you just are not people in New York who
just are heartbroken at the You think they're watching the
NBA watching nothing.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
No, they're not. I know a lot of Cleveland because
I still live there, a lot of Cleveland wasn't watching
the Pacers in the in the conference finals. That is true.
I will say that if you are not an NBA fan,
then it's certainly okay not to watch. If you are,
(29:25):
you ought to check this out because I'm wondering if
you complain that the NBA doesn't play defense, and they
don't pass, and they don't do this, and they don't
do that, well, the Thunder and the Tasers do they
play like college teams and like you know, to me,
it's way overblown. The complaints we hear about the style
(29:45):
of play in the NBA. I don't agree with them,
but I've heard them and I hear what the complaints are. Well,
guess what. These two teams play the way you want
them to play, except they have the NBA caliber.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
Town Yeah, I think it's going to be you mentioned
it a college program like selfless defense all in. You
can bring line shifts in a bunch of guys. We
don't even know half of them, but they play great
basketball both sides. And I keep liking it to Pius.
If you like j Cole, if you like Drake, if
you want NNS to jay Z, you got one that
you know, you got a little bit more commercialized. That's
(30:18):
what folks are looking for. Or do you like pure
hip hop? In this case pure basketball? And I think
pure basketball fans are gonna enjoy, but the casual fans
gonna be like, where's Lebron, Where's Steph, where's KD or somebody?
Speaker 2 (30:28):
I know, Uh, we appreciate that, Joe.
Speaker 6 (30:31):
Oh yeah, No, I was just gonna say, you know,
the NBA has its media contract money. Uh, the NBA
wants to be able to put these new stars on television.
I think you know the ESPN, ABC disneys of the
world would be the ones who are.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Sad over this, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
All right, Joe, there's gonna be casual fans too, though.
They're gonna be like, who baby, you don't want to
ask the game? You don't want to see Nie Smith?
Come on, neeheart baby, come on, neve heart man. You
know you want to see some low do.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Who what?
Speaker 5 (31:03):
We need somebody you can just say, Hey, I'm going out.
You want to watch I'm gonna throw a game. I
throw a finals party at the house. Y'all want to
watch Lou Dorton. It's just they don't hit the same.
There's some other players. The dort want to put you
in the dorser chamber. All right, book, Oh that's why
she's dressed up. We got the Uh series we wanted
last World Series, and the Yankees and Dodgers and I
(31:26):
think baseball and enjoyed what they got. Over the weekend,
we'll tell you more about Sdicht couple. Rob Kelvin Fox

the Week. The Pro the Weeek goes to Dodgers third
baseman Max Monsey. He hit three home runs had eight
RBIs in the Dodgers weekend series over the Yankees. So again,
congrats to Max Monsey for being our Express Pro of
the Week. Speaking of Max Monty the Dodgers, you had it.
We had a really good World Series rematch over the
weekend out here in La. It was a hot weekend.
(32:28):
Both teams showed up. Says for a Saturday game was
at eighteen to two beat down. But Rob I was
there Friday, enjoyed it. We talked about it. Ivery think
Thursday and Friday kind of leading up to it. We
kind of talked about how who may have a chance
to get back to the World Series. I picked Dodgers,
obviously you picked Yankees. But more than anything I said Friday,
(32:49):
and I stand by it again here on Monday. The
winner is going to be MLB number one, but US
fans number two. Man, if we were to get this again,
because you and I talked about it, you don't get
teams to repeat in baseball.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
It's been twenty five years. It has been even longer
in the NL since there was a seventy three No.
Seven six, seventy five, seventy six, Yeah, seventy five red
Machine yep.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
So you know, we'll find out what happens.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
But even if you just get him in, even if
the Dodgers were to lose, but the fact if you
can get the Yankees Dodgers again, because what I loved
about this weekend rob sometimes you get matchups. Pick the
sport too, it doesn't matter where. I didn't really live
up to it, right Eagles Cheeks were about to get
The Eagles just destroyed them.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
For the most part. It was a series. So you
got three games. It lived up to it.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
You got home runs. I just read Maximunsey with three
of them. Show Hey had a couple in the game, Judge,
Judge had a few.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
Like just a good.
Speaker 5 (33:42):
Weekend where stars stepped up. You got big hits, timely hits,
you got great plays, big crowds. Five was there, Magic
this show. Magic was there and.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
They were Yankee fans, you know New Yorkers who live
out here.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
Mike Live Friday Night, or a couple of home runs
or made a couple of guns catches I had.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
I had to check where.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
Out Yankee Stadium right the heck. So yeah, I just
think it would ended up being what you'd hope for
for your baseball. And obviously some of those were national games.
So you had the Apple game and was that Friday, Saturday?
Speaker 1 (34:15):
Saturday was Fox and Sunday was Sunday Night Baseball at ESPN.
Speaker 5 (34:19):
So I just end up to it. But it was
good to see because sometimes you don't get that. I
had a funny moment. You notice, living in l A.
Typically John Hartungue dones the sports in LA games pre
and post game. You know that, and then if he's
not there most of the time, it's me or someone else.
But so I'm at the game and I saw her tongue.
I said, wait, if you ain't on TV, and who's
doing the pre and post game today? And I was like, oh, hey,
(34:39):
Apple had the game because I threw me. I didn't
expect to see him there. To me off, I'm clapping,
what's go John?
Speaker 2 (34:46):
What are you doing here? For two seconds, I was like,
Oh my gosh, was.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
I supposed to be today? Check my phone, like, oh lord, jeez,
help me. But it's a good time. You had a
good time in there and just enjoying the vibe of
the weekend. You could feel it was a big one.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
I got you know, got a chance to talk and
do some interviews for man mlbbro dot com and talk
with some of the players. I did one for the
podcast Rob g Knows This Trent Grisham, who's the center
fielder for the Yankees. You asking about the mustache. You
didn't do it for your boy?
Speaker 2 (35:15):
I didn't, I know. I just I was talking about
We talked about that man mustache every time.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
He talk I was like, I just was like, you know,
let me keep this. I don't want to be like,
you know, Rob Parker, didn't want to be like what
you look like in your head. You let me find
out he act different on MLB Bro. No, No, I
didn't let me find out that you're not the same,
Rob Parker.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Is what I gotta deal with every day. I just
to be like, what's up with the mustag? I guess right, said,
what's up the mustache?
Speaker 8 (35:41):
You go?
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Hey man, the Yankees having a really good season. What's
it like? Oh well, geez man, we're out here. We're
just giving mustach. That's great. But I gotta ask you.
Speaker 5 (35:48):
Man, my partner, Kevin Washington, I sit next to him
every day in my life. He wants to know we
loved the Mustang? Was what why you got the stash?
Speaker 6 (35:55):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Man, it's the honor of my grandfather. You know what
I'm saying. You left me hanging. I didn't do That's something.
I'm sorry. I didn't do it.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
You know what?
Speaker 5 (36:04):
You know he ain't You know what, He's never brought
up Christiams, Batanavage home runs, what a great player?
Speaker 2 (36:10):
You know what brings up?
Speaker 1 (36:12):
That's all we ever talk about. But you had a
chance to ask the man. I didn't want to put
him on a spot like I'm like trying to make
fun of him.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Let me tell you something. You don't want to put
anyone on the spot. I don't want to put out
of everybody. See this, they're attacking.
Speaker 5 (36:24):
This is barbad and what you say, let me put
you on the spot. And now you don't want to
put somebody in the spot. And here's another thing too.
When you get a mustache like that, you know what
you're doing. Like if you get a mohawk and it's green,
Clearly I'm doing this for a reason. Him walking around
with a nineteen seventy nine, nineteen to eighty three mustache.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
He knows what is he has to have something on him, Rob,
What does he have on you? Yeah, married, that's man.
He gave you that look like he gave you that
look like you better not go there, Rob, You signed
the NDA.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
Rob g saw the video. The hair's crazy, right, and
he had to crazy. He didn't never had on. His
hair is crazy and the mustache and so I'm trying
to be professional and just keep it professional.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
So you guys, you guys run the squeeze, play on
when it's so you know, Aaron Judson at batting there
when you guys.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Are in the you don't have to listen to the
interview on Inside the Park, which dropped every Thursday wherever
you get your podcast.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
I'm about to you know what. Let me get an
application real quick. Let me get an application. Let me
go tell the Dodgers. I can't do it no more.
I'm about to work with a mob bro.
Speaker 5 (37:32):
I asked the questions that people want to know you
over here, asking when you see a three seamer coming
down the I didn't do all that.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
I didn't get that technical, but it was definitely I
looked at it, but I didn't say anything.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
I gotta admit, I just you staring at that man?
What movie was that? Rodgerie when he stared at the
mall American? But what was that? He can't stop staring
at the mole right now? Austin Powers?
Speaker 5 (37:51):
Was it?
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Austin Austin Power? Yeah, staring He couldn't stop staring at
his move. You staring at his mustache? You don't even
bring it up.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
It was his son's move, wasn't it. Yeah? Yeah it
was Freddy, was it? He was fred Savage? Savage? Yeah,
mold you mean yeah? He just kept staring big a
bowl of guacamole. Yeah, staring at his mustache.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
You know, when you when you're up there and it's
two on two out, how do you see the ball
with your mustaches in the That's what you should have said,
