You get your pots, and you'll find today's show and
a best of version posted right after we get off
to you things in life Sometimes. Can you imagine being
a nine year old kid and watching a TV show
called The Odd Couple and deciding that that's the path
you wanted to take in life, And now you're doing
(01:21):
a radio show for the last twenty years called The
Odd Couple or whatever it is.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
It just it's crazy.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
I was just a kid, but you over again sentimental, Yeah,
a little bit something you want to tell me. No,
I'm okay, all right, Well you know what, don't forget
just gonna say you're right. And there's sometimes there's awesome
moments in life where you look back and you say, Man,
everything I wanted, hope for, worked hard for, I got
it and you have to look remember that. Well, I
(01:48):
mean not ever, you know what I mean, but to
be appreciative of where you are right, No.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
No, no, absolutely, I'm just saying.
Speaker 5 (01:54):
Because a lot of people mad right now doing whatever
they're doing, right, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
You gotta tell me what it.
Speaker 5 (01:59):
Could have I would shy, man, it wasn't My fuck
is the school and I would have done And it's
everybody else's fault too, by the way.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
So I'm with you on that, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
I'm I'm saying sometimes when I say that the couple
of Pots, you know what I mean, I'm thinking about
that was just a TV show.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
What if that show didn't come on when I was
a kid growing up in New York, rob g I'm
gonna go full oracle, Alex.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
I'm going think about that, Imagine that that show was
not in re runs when I was growing up.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
This might be the Lavernon Shirley show. I'm just saying, look, lilies,
can I be?
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Can I be LeVar LeVar and Shirley and Lebarar LeVar
in Chester?
Speaker 6 (02:38):
You know?
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Like?
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Did you? But think about it?
Speaker 5 (02:40):
I'm about to go full deep oracle on you and
the matrix. Remember she said, Oh, by the way, Neil,
don't worry about the Glass're about to drop? He said,
what glad? He turns around, bow drops the glass. She said,
with a really buggy noodle. Is if you would have
knocked that over had I not said anything? My point is,
do you think you still would have been here without that?
Or was that the thing that made it happen? You
get what I'm saying? Was it regardless like it was
(03:03):
gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
My teacher said I should be a writer when I
was seven years old, so she already had.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
That dropped a little.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
That was before I was watching reruns of But you
see how it matriculates.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
She she did say that, and maybe if it wasn't
that show, maybe I still would have wound up being
a writer or whatever. But just a whole odd couple
thing I just just weird. I go up with something
one more real quick thirty seconds.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
My mother always told me growing up, when you were
in the stomach, my her grandmother, my great grandmother, would
always call at around eleven o'clock and she would say,
let me talk to my baby when the news was on.
She said, you would get to jump in, you would
get the starting and like she was, he's my news baby.
And my mom always told me this five six fifteen,
and I'm like, whatever you know. And I had all
these ideas what I want to do. And then when
(03:52):
I got hired obviously Spectrum news. When I became a
news that, I laughed, like, what the heck. My great grandma,
great grandmother d d he rest in peace. He always
knew it's eleven. Put the phone next to the stomach,
and I would get all excited. It was the news
that was our little thing, and it was always in
the back of my head subconsciously. And now being the
news anchor and doing this and doing all that, it
is interesting how that all works out.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
There's no doubt about it. Yeah, you just think about stuff.
Something you do, but stop, dude, give me all that
you get a little too. I'm all good.
Speaker 7 (04:23):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Tony Jones, who covered the NBA for the Athletic. Uh,
he'll join us in about twenty five minutes, so you
want to uh hang around for that. Also, shop talk
later this hour, so we have a lot to do.
Rob g was there. This was a story, wasn't it
about the Joker? He seems so insure of yourself I
(04:44):
am today. It's just the Barker joint.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
No, no, no, no, yeah, that's what I just I forgot
what everyone just so. I told you. I don't like
the way you were setting that up. What you were
talking about a minute? You all right? Man over there? Yeah,
I'm good.
Speaker 8 (04:56):
So yesterday SGA we're talking about was crowned the NBA's MVP,
ran away with I think it was seventy nine to
twenty one or something like that in the total votes.
But interestingly enough, by finishing in the silver medal spot,
Nikola Jokic has accomplished defeat that we have not seen
(05:16):
in decades. Yesterday, the Joker became the first player since
Larry Bird to finish in the top two an MVP
voting for five consecutive seasons. During that time, he's either
finished first three times or second twice.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
What's more, what's crazy is with the season he had
this year and the EMBIID Trophy that they gave to him,
he could.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
Have all right, look, that is crazy because the EMBIID
won after the finals last year two years ago, people
were like.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
We might have made it. What do we Thank god
we got that award before that? No, that, oh god,
that would have been.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
And then obviously this year his numbers were better than
any of his MVP years.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
But Shay had to Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 8 (06:04):
What because first the player guys in NBA history to
finish the top three in points, rebounds, and assists for
a season, but going back to the five year mark
since the turn of this decade, since twenty twenty, in
the playoffs, the Joker who's really only had one deep
playoff run in that span, first in rebounds, assists, double doubles,
(06:28):
triple doubles, oh Any's second in points in the playoff
during that span, which led Yard Barker to put in
a column that Nikola Jokic as of now has been
the player of the decade in the NBA for the
twenty twenties. Guys, here's the question coming up here. In
about fifteen minutes or so, we're gonna have two guys
(06:50):
SGA and at Man, who are many years saying are
the future the next faces of the NBA potentially. You
guys talked about Tyre's Halliburn and Jalen Brunson in our one.
Moving forward for the next five years, do you expect
that Nikolai jokicch will remain the NBA's Player of the decade.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
I absolutely think so because he has such a head start.
And when you're that good the first five years, you
don't need to do with three or four years, right
All you need to do is have two really good
years and say the Nuggets win one championship or they
get to the finals, whatever it is, and then you
got seven years where you were in either first or second.
(07:32):
Because I don't see his numbers going down, and it
doesn't mean he's gonna win up the MVP, but he'll.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Be in that mix. He'll be in that mix.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
And if you're in that mix seven out of the
ten years, how you're not the player of the It's
one thing. If he didn't win a championship, then you
could say somebody came along and won one or two,
and that'll be the end of that. But if he
wins one possibly another one in the next five years,
or gets to a finals and they lose, and you
would look at it and go, man, what a ten
(08:03):
year run this has been.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
I completely agree it's his to lose. What he's done
is remarkable. It's been incredible, and honestly, every year you go,
I mean, he kind of is the MVP. It's happening
now for five years, he's won a ring, he's been MVPs,
he's got the All Star appearances. There's two caveats I
(08:26):
would like to offer, though, rob One, if I have
to make a case for something else. One his own
success individually cripples him because at this point, well, we
know you're good. You gotta win, right when you get
this good Michael Jordan Young flying through the air, scoring
bunch of scoring titles, we want to see you win.
And so he's got the one. But you would start
(08:48):
to think, if he's that good MVPs all the time,
or at least being first second, he should have more rings.
So I think does that work against him? Let's say
it continues how it has been the last couple of years,
first round, second round exits. That does that flip in
the last five six years turn into well, if he's
that good, why didn't he win more? It was a
whole decade he only got one and the other caveat
(09:09):
Rob is the only person nipping on those heels a
little bit to me, who has a shot two people
one in particular Giannis, because he has two MVPs already.
He already has finals, MVP and a ring, so it's
kind of matching you there. And he's been right there
in those finals races a couple of times too, when
(09:29):
you know, finishing very close. And if he were to
we know there's rumors he might want to go somewhere else.
Let's say he links up and goes to the Spurs,
as people are saying is a possibility with that number two,
pick and him and winby just go crazy for the
next four or five, you know, six years to the
end of until we get to twenty thirty and.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
He wins one. I don't even go crazy.
Speaker 5 (09:47):
Just say he wins two more, not three four, Just
wins one or two more, one or two more finals,
MVPs and MVP in there. He's already got a defensive
player year. He's been an eight time All NBA five
time All defensive player. He's the only the other one
that if it's and he's like this year average thirty
twelve and seven, that's crazy if it kept going for Gianni's,
he's the only one to me that I could be like,
(10:08):
all right, it's between those two.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
The only thing is you're Yanni's thing. They've been disappointing
in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
You know, I've been on him about that. You know,
I know that.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
So so I don't know how that works for Gianni's,
but it doesn't, you know what I mean, Like like
if you're looking at.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
It through That's why I'm saying the Spurs if he
goes somewhere where And.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Even then if he goes to the Spurs, is it
going to be about Giannis or will people go, well,
look where he went and what they did to Kevin Durant.
And not that the Spurs have wanted anything, but they
have to. You know, they have young players who who
could be a bigger part of it, and it could
be Wimby's team. I'm not saying that Gianni's would be
a third wheel or anything, but I.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Could mean where it was it was a super team
or this that and it takes but they would.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Be like, WHOA.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
I mean, he's playing with an unbelievable player that we
had never seen before.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
That's yeah, and that and that you take a little credit.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
I know we talk about all the time, and I
don't know why people just don't buy into it. But
the you know, Shaq and Kobe being on the same team,
why didn't win you know MVPs?
Speaker 3 (11:07):
And it does eat into you a little bit.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
And I think the Joe goes right where it looks
to me where you go, he's doing this without you know,
you can talk about Murray all you want, but the
facts remain that there's no other number two, big time
player with him.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
I think that helps him.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
It absolutely, That's why I'm agreeing he has the lead
right now. But I think Giannis is nipping and if
the last five years of the decade go in favor
of Gianni's not even drastically.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
But you can make a case.
Speaker 5 (11:40):
The only other person I'll throw at you, it's not
gonna happen, but he can make a case resume wise,
possibly Jason Tatum. We know he's not better than Jokic,
but again, if he messes around and get two more
rings because he's gone, I mean the finals already come
down East, stays in the Eastern Conference finals. He could
(12:00):
have an insane resume where for the last you know,
say five or six of the years in the twenty
twenties he was in the finals, maybe one three, maybe
lost three, maybe won a couple, lost a couple, but
that could be a case.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
So to me, the only things working.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
Against Hiokich is his own success individually maybe not matching
up to what we would want to see from him collectively,
Like he would need more rings, more finals appearances if
he's that great, because historically, if you own a decade,
well you've owned the finals, like we mentioned, Jordan owned
the nineties, Magic owned the eighties nine final appearance, which
is absolutely crazy. You know, you got Lebron ten final
(12:36):
appearances during the twenty tens and how many you know,
or however many he won and then and then Steph
owned the twenty tens and into the early twenty twenties.
So usually when you're the guy for a decade, there's
more finals appearances. So if Yo Kich or if he
gets to two more finals, even if he only wins one,
it's a rap to fight out. It's a rap. Give
him the twenty twenties, but I do think he has
(12:59):
to get to more finals appearances or at least Eastern
you know, Western Conference finals, like more regularly where he's
that great you can automatically pencil him in for Western
Conference final at a minimum.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
You know, Yeah, he's going, he's going to be in
the mix. And if he wins one, one more or two,
you know, and he's in.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
The top Dundale.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Yeah, because because of his stats, and I still I think,
I really do going into next year, he's the favorite.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
M v P or Okay, if I thought you meant
the ring I was talking about, I'm talking about VP
m v P.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Yes, Yes, for two reasons real quick.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
A the numbers and Robb G just talked about what
he was able to do that nobody had done or whatever,
what three guys had done it in the history of
the NBA. And number two, the shay flopping and all that.
I think people a little bit of the is coming
off of him. Can we see him now all the
time everybody's watching him and they're like, oh, that's a
(13:59):
real thing. Kind of I thought he was a little
better than that, you know, like this is like kind
of crazy, you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (14:05):
And I've heard people say I don't know.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
All right, eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven,
seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. Will anybody
be able to surpass Nicola the joke, the joker, I'm
just gonna say, joke. Its as the NBA's Player of
(14:30):
the Decade for the twenty twenties.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
We'll continue that conversation next with you.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
It is the odd Couple Rob Parker kelvin Washington, right
here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
And you know what you need to do, stick and stay.
Speaker 9 (14:43):
To find out if it really is joker in the US.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
The Joker, Yes, the Joker. Here we go.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live My Baloney. How's her first name?
Speaker 3 (15:03):
It's what else? Rooney has a second name?
Speaker 4 (15:08):
And ay, I love eat it and we did And
if you ask me why, I'll save.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Oscar had them way with Beyondllo. Yeah, I had a
glizzy in my mouth. I need a remix. Wow, that
sounds like a real commercial. I was on too.
Speaker 5 (15:29):
What you mean it sounds like it wasn't one that
was a real commercial. Let the streets know, Rob, it's
the cover Rod Parker and kelvin Washington clearly.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
On a TV thing so Thursday.
Speaker 7 (15:40):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
For over forty years, tire Rack has been helping customers
find the right tires for how, what and where they drive,
ship fast and free back by Freedo who has a
protection with convenient insulation options like mobile tire Insulation tire
raq dot com. Folks is the way tire buying should be.
All right, yolkis put out a good thing. Yard Barker
was saying, basically, he's on the decade, the first half
(16:03):
of it. Kenny on the entire decade? Is somebody on
his heels? Is there somebody you think that could steal
it from him? Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
We both agree he's absolutely the lead right now. The
only person I can think of is Giannis, who could
maybe come twenty thirty have something to say.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Who we got? All right? Andre in Massachusetts, you're on
the couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up right?
Speaker 8 (16:25):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (16:25):
How you doing? Thanks taking the call? No, this is
a joker's race and Frankly, I have him laugh in
the field. He's the modern day are Vetus to Bonus
in terms of what he's done in that city and frankly,
in that system, the triple doubles, the way that he's
able to dictate, dominate the game. Not an explosive player, right,
(16:46):
He's not doing it with his elite athleticism, just imposing.
It's just his skill, his IQ is understanding of the game, temperament,
his composure. And so we are seeing right now what
we were able to witness in the eighties Larry birds dominance,
winning those three straight MVPs from eighty four to eighty six,
right and frankly from eighty to eighty seven. How many
(17:07):
finals did he have the Celtics games. You know, they
were in the finals almost every year, battling against the Lakers.
So it's a beautiful thing. And again back to my
original point, people talked about who our Vita Sabonis was.
We never got a chance to see our Vetus in
his prime because he came to the Trail Blazers late
in his career. But we didn't see that prime. And
I just think that, you know, djok is what we
would have seen had we got a chance to see
(17:29):
our Vita Sabonis in his prime. And in conclusion, you know,
you throw out somebody like the late great Roden Petrovics. Right,
These just European players that you know, are right up
there with the best that America has to offer. And frankly,
we got to step our game up because the Europeans
are winning every single length beat.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
You'll go, all right, so norm from Cheers pass right?
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Yea?
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Was that two days ago? Was that?
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Ye know?
Speaker 3 (17:55):
The TV team?
Speaker 4 (17:55):
So on Thursday, you're in that Massachusetts Boston area. I mean,
the did people take a little love what George went?
Speaker 7 (18:03):
Right?
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Wasn't his name?
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Indeed, we're feeling that, you know where everybody knows your name.
Speaker 7 (18:09):
You know, the classic song.
Speaker 6 (18:10):
And series are from the eighties, so I imagine I had
to take a look at it. But you know the
Red Sox, you know there'll there'll be something something for him.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
Yeah, he's definitely a Boston character, you know what I mean?
And the whole cheers dude, those folks thanks a.
Speaker 5 (18:25):
Lot, appreciate you so much so you almost forget their characters,
Like you're like, all right, by no, there's a handful
of you know, folks who have been that.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
But some people like they don't like it. I don't.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
I wouldn't be I wouldn't want to be Bob Denver
wearing the Gilligan's hat my whole life to make a
living now that I don't.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Got to wear the saying reds I feel right right,
I don't. I don't want to be that guy or
uh that all might jim.
Speaker 5 (18:53):
Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Walker, Jimmy Walker, every every commercial selling
some insurance. We haven't seen him in a while, but
he was doing that. Yeah, it's always that like sad
thing now.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Now rcle Yeah, he's always got to be rkle.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
Are we biased because he came and chopped it up
with us? And no, I get it, But I.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
Feel like I wouldn't be, Like I think that having
an iconic role where people know forever is not the
worst thing.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
I get it. Like for work purposes, you can't get
another gig.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Adam West after Batman couldn't work, he actually did soft
porn at one point.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
Alex, did you see that? Or no, you didn't see that, Adam?
How did you see that? He was straight to add Alex,
I'm just.
Speaker 10 (19:42):
Saying, Alex is a surveyor of the culture and things
going on, right, like Rob g and I want to
see right or is it Alex I can't remember.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
I think in Robert krat we know he loves old
people's stuff. We want to literally ROI and Rob p.
Speaker 9 (20:05):
There could be like a whole thing here if we
parlay Belichick and his lady too.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Yes, there's just there's something here. There might be something there.
I'll pass. You don't want to see the Robert Black.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Believe you, this might be the seventh time you've asked me, okay,
it was going to change.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
It's never gonna change.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
Carlton Alfonso River, he's the perfect balance of what we're saying.
But everybody knows him and he but there's so many
things that he's been able to steal. Tried really hard
to get away from it.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
But I think he I think he's what Rob was saying.
I appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
It's maybe money and I'll pop up once every now
and again to do a Saturday night live schedule something
with it, but I can.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
I don't have to had some.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
Career because you know, he did the Pepsi commercial with
Michael Jackson that's him. I mean, that's that's a pretty
big role. And then he was in uh in the
House was a big thing for him. Dancing with the
stars and.
Speaker 8 (20:55):
That was he'd never down think he faked like he
was going to do the Carlton Dancy didn't do it
that kind of like. But that enabled other people like,
oh yeah, he's also talented and a few stuff he's
doing like that was a big thing for him.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Yeah, he's hosting a game show.
Speaker 5 (21:11):
Was a bunch of stuff, so and America's Funniest home
videos and all that good stuff.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 5 (21:28):
Tony Jones covers the NBA for the Athletic is our
guest right now. T Jones on the NBA on x SO.
Go ahead and give him a follow there, Tony.
Speaker 3 (21:37):

Speaker 7 (21:39):
What's going on? How you doing, bro?
Speaker 3 (21:41):
I'm good? How are you, buddy?
Speaker 7 (21:43):
I'm good. Man, I'm good. Michie man man, no doubt.
Speaker 8 (21:46):
I know.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
We haven't seen each other in a minute. Are you
coming to Cleveland?
Speaker 7 (21:50):
I am coming to Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
I will definitely see you in Cleveland at the NABJ.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
You got you gotta extra bed for me, Rob because
hotels booked out, man, Yeah, they booked out quickly.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
I thought it was Cleveland, Tony.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
I thought I know, but I thought no. I was
like anybody going I'll be all right. I was wrong, dude.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
I give my hotel day one, like, I don't even
mess around the minute they drop it. All right.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
I got my ticket to the party, to the big party.
You have to get that as well, no doubt. But Tony,
so much going on. Let's start with that Nicks choke
job yesterday.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Just whyre you looking at me like that?
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Covin wants to give the Pacers credit. I call it
a choke job. What'd you make of that last night?
Speaker 7 (22:31):
What do I make of it? Do I think it
was a choke job or do I think that the paper?
I think it was a massive choke job that the
Pacers deserve credit for walking through, like you, the way
the Knicks choke that. They did everything that they could
to lose that game. But you still have to kind
of do everything right to get back right right.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
They gotta make their shots. I get that that's fair.
Speaker 7 (22:56):
Yeah, I mean, because Aaron said, if he misses even
one of those five or six three that he made
in a row, the game is still over. So I mean,
it took incredible execution. But this was a massive choke job.
This is on par with eight points and nine seconds.
This is on par with allowing Regie to go for
(23:17):
twenty five in a quarter against against US. Like I've
been a Knicks fan for all my life. I mean,
you know, I grew up in New York, YEP, So
I mean this was was particularly particularly hurtful for me
to watch. But I mean, you know, this Indiana team
at the same time, it's fun to watch. They're deep,
(23:38):
their dynamic, they make shots, they play really fast, they
play a really fun style of basketball, and it's good
to see that style of basketball thriving in the postseason setting.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
Yeah, it's interesting when you're looking at pace of playing
and the Knicks kind of want to grind it out, brunting,
might dribble the ball a lot, maybe get it downloads
to kar Anthony Towns, and the Pacers want to go
And I think the Knicks probably thought themselves, hey, we're
out pacing the Pacers.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
For three point seven five percent.
Speaker 5 (24:08):
Of the game, you know, three quarters and you know
and a half, and all of a sudden, the Pacers
able to get back and do that thing. Do you
think that's something they're gonna be concerned with. Maybe slow
it up, grind it up, make it a little uglier
the Knicks.
Speaker 7 (24:21):
No, man, you know, one have to slow this series down,
like you can't run with the team that has eleven
rotation players for seven games. You know, this this series
is every other day. There's not there's not a two
day stretch between any game in this series. You know.
So the longer this series goes, the more that the
(24:42):
more Indiana has an advantage. So you know, you gotta
slow down. You gotta slow this down, and you gotta
limit possessions. Even last night, you know the way the
Knicks ran, you know they built that that you know,
that huge lead. But it was fool though, right like
number one, they built that huge meme with Jalen Brunton
on the bench. That's never gonna happen again in this
(25:04):
series where you go on that kind of run without
Jalen Brunson in the game. But the second thing, and
the more important thing is when the Knicks had to
make plays down the stretch. They were gassed, you know,
ogn andob missed two really big close outs on these
Smith because he was gassed. You know. Michel Bridges couldn't
(25:26):
contest Obie topping at the rim for that dunk because
he was gassed. Jalen Brunson had a couple of uncharacteristic
turnovers and shot an airball, you know, on the last
possession because he was gassed. Because for the first forty
five forty six minutes of the game, the Knicks spent
all of their time running with the Pacers. They need
(25:46):
to slow this series down. They need to limit possessions.
They need to play possession by possession and make the
Pacers execute in a half court setting. You know, they're
getting runouts and they're getting you know, why open threes
off of runouts and things like that. The Knicks happles
do their best to eliminate those.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Here's Tony Jones.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
He covers the NBA for the Athletic on with the
Odd Couple Robin Kelvin on a TV themes.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
So on Thursday, let me ask you about SGA. They
just have the He's about to get the award from
the commissioner. Did you have a vote? Did you vote
for him?
Speaker 7 (26:21):
Yeah? I voted yes.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
And what do you make now?
Speaker 4 (26:24):
People are looking at him, getting a closer look and
seeing all the flopping and all the other stuff that's
going on there, and it's kind of like, oh, okay.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Is that is you know, does that look bad to you?
Or no, that's just basketball.
Speaker 7 (26:41):
I have a couple of thoughts on that. The only
thing that grinds my gears is that if you can't
touch as if you can't touch Shay on one end,
then you know, the league shouldn't be allowing Oklahoma City
to play football in the other end defensive line.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
I agree with that.
Speaker 7 (27:03):
You know, pick a lane. Either you can't touch SGA
and you get the same calls on the other side
of the floor, or you can play football with SGA
and his teammates get to play and Lou Dort gets
to play football defensively on the other end. That's where
most of the fan bases are getting upset. That's where
(27:24):
Demon was upset, you know, like you can't touch you know,
I just covered seven games of the Nuggets not being
able to touch SGA. But you know, basically Lou Dorton
and and Uh and Alec and Caruso being able to
assault your kitch on the other end of the floor.
(27:46):
So you know, for me, it's you got to pick
a lane. That's being said, if you're mad at the
way SGA plays you know, my man Nate Jones on
Twitter said at the best, if you're mad at the
way SGA plays basketball, you better be mad at Michael
Jordan and Kobe Bryant too, because they both hunted files
the same way. And if you're going to get those calls,
(28:08):
then you know that's I mean, you got to play
that way, especially like if you're James Brunson and they're
gonna call it and play that way, if you're SGA
and they're gonna call it to play that way. But
he's a he's a generational offensive player. You know, take
away all the fouls, you know, the free throws and
all that stuff. The skill, the footwork, the shot making,
(28:34):
the ability to play the spot, the ability to get
the spot any spot that he wants to on the floor,
the ability to make reads, the ability to score for
three levels. He's generational. I mean, he's a he's an
error defining scorer, and you know there's a who also
plays on the defensive end, and he doesn't he doesn't cry,
(28:54):
and he doesn't lie. So there are a lot of
things like about Gilgi Alexander, a lot of things like
about his game. But yeah, that one little neck like
you know, if you can't touch him on one end,
but his teammates, you know, get to get to go
to war on the other hand, that that's a problem.
Speaker 5 (29:14):
Let me throw this at you, though, Tony, I get that,
and Rob and I talked about it.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
I totally get that.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
But do you think some of what Jokis was getting
was what Giannis has gotten when Lebron has gotten what
Shaq got where you're bigger than them, Shaq got you know,
he got filed, he got beat up for years. We
all know, we all saw it. They say, man, you're
bigger than him. I wonder if some of that was
that with him. You're the by far the biggest dude
in the NBA outside of maybe Embiid, and I wonder
(29:40):
if there was a little bit of that.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
You'll be all right, he's six' five in.
Speaker 7 (29:43):
It, yeah, ABSOLUTELY i Mean lebron Is, shaq you, know
get the to me get the worst superstar with got
the worst superstar whistles for anybody in the league in
league history to, me you know the same. THING i,
mean you know the same thing With yokis as. Well
i'll give the only small guy that That i've seen
(30:07):
as a superstar who's gotten a bad whistle or has
gotten a relatively slow whistle Of Stephen. Curry but every
superstar who has gotten you, know a big has gotten
a bad whistle, historically you, know has been you know
a guy that's pretty, much you, know been bigger than everybody.
(30:27):
Else you, know The, lebron's you know The quille, O'Neills
you know some of the bigs in the nineties football.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
With Cam newton who got beat you, know Like, Caim
Like Cam.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Newton would'st they would beat him up more than, that
like that if you Touched Patrick mahomee breathed on, him my,
god Or Tom brady during his, time that was definitely all, right.
Speaker 7 (30:50):
Well yeah the way That. Cam but But Cam newton
never went down.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Though he's so.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
