NBA draft consultant, an NBA Big board owner and author.
He joins us at the bottom of the hour. We'll

(01:27):
talk some NBA draft and what's coming up soon in
the NBA we'll do that and much more.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Ryan Holland, let's switch over.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
We know basketball is about to get started, but we
have a NFL topic and we want to get into
Shador Sanders and what came out of the Cleveland Browns
OTAs which are all over and Rob.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
G you got the news on that.

Speaker 4 (01:52):
Yeah, this is something you guys were talking about earlier
this week. So camp through the first week. I don't
know if it's officially over, but the first week of
camp is over, and Shador Sanders, unsurprisingly has put on
the biggest show statistically of any of the four quarterbacks
in this competition. Fully forty one fifty three, nine touchdowns,

(02:15):
one pick. He has the highest completion percentage of any
of the four guys on documentary passes sev he'sven present
and he led the squad with the nine touchdowns. No
one else had more than that. To your point, though, Rob,
and this maybe a little bit foreshadowing, and this is.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
It Ryan, here's a big key.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
Okay here, he never took a single rep with the
first team.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
There are people Ryan already crowned him as he's going
to be the starter this year. I don't know how
you don't work with the first team. And I know
this training camp is still to come after, you know,
coming up in July or whatever, but that didn't sound
like it's only practice. If the coaches easily could have
given him some reps against the starters, right the number

(02:59):
one uh starters and whatnot on the team, Rob g.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
And to add to a little add a little more
to that with this came out here on Friday. Mary
Kay Cabot, who's as plugged in as anybody.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
She's been covering to Browns for it since Moby Dick
was a.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
Guy in Cleveland.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
She said on the latest edition of the Orange and
Brown Talk podcast that as much as Brown's fans, which said,
not what Brown fans want to hear right now, they
want to hear it's between Joe Flacco Shador Sanders, and
those two are the firm runners to be to be
the quarterback, but it's actually gonna be Kenny Pickett and
Dylan Gabriel. In fact, according to Mary Kay Cabot, it's

(03:37):
trending towards, barring something completely unforeseen in training camp, Kenny
Pickett will be the week one starter in Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
I'm not surprised and I get the shador thing made
for great television, Ryan, Right, Uh, he's Dion Sanders' son,
all the bravado.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
You remember he had all stuff for the draft, what
was it?

Speaker 1 (04:02):
All the branding of himself and whatnot, and had this
room built for the whole draft and all this stuff. Right,
it was all set up. It was a lot and
we get it. Dion one of the all time great athletes.
When you could play in the NFL and be a
Pro Football Hall of Famer and play a major league
baseball as well, right, and have an impact, This is dude.

(04:25):
I think he's the only one who I made a
home run and had a touchdown on the same day
in pro sports. A home run and a touchdown, okay,
but should do it for whatever reason. And people can
say it was the stuff that was leaked and all that,
whatever it is. He didn't get picked till the fifth round.

(04:47):
And this is not some punishment. This is nonsense. When
I hear this, Oh, this is the NFL trying to
put Dion in his place because you're.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Gonna tell him what they're gonna do and all this. Ryan,
you know this. You're pro athlete.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
People are trying to win, Okay, you're a GM. You're
a coach, you're gonna tell me you're not gonna play
somebody who's great, who's good.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
I've seen it. I saw Russell Wilson come out of nowhere.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
They had signed Matt Flynn from the Packers to Seattle
for a gazillion dollars.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Russell Wilson showed up. You know what, they said, thank you,
Matt Flynn. Were going with Russell Wilson. I've seen it.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Over and over and for him not to be playing,
practicing with the first team or take first team reps
says all you need to know, like this idea is.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Gonna be the starter. I just don't see it that way.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
And I know people are upset and they think like like, oh, oh,
he was supposed to be a first round pick, and
they're they're they're they're punishing the Dion Dion's family and whatnot. Really,
everybody's a good received by everybody in the league. You notice, Ryan,
people are looking for talent. What is the biggest uh

(06:07):
deficit for for most teams? A quarterback? Half of the
teams in the NFL don't have a good quarterback. If
Shandor could really be the starting quarterback, do you think
that the Browns wouldn't play him.

Speaker 6 (06:18):
Here's the thing, Rob at this point, because of where
he's drafted, I don't think there's much you can do
as far as he was already slided in not to start.
I mean everybody would have been injured, he'd have had
to have some type of phenomenal outing, but nonetheless he
didn't even get an opportunity to start. In fairness, I
think the reality is. And as a former player, we

(06:41):
know this, and for myself even going to the draft,
and I've seen it with even teammates of mine. When
your uh, I guess your fame or your name, or
your your likeness becomes can outweigh your game and which
you bring to the like like like like Lebron James
when he came out. I remember there, he was a

(07:03):
story every day. He was on top of a sports center.
He was big time but guess what, he had a
big time game. Also you could see him he's his
talent oozed and that was gonna be there. There's a
cerebral game. You don't look at him as a physical specimen.
He's not out there running.

Speaker 7 (07:18):
A four four four three forty. He is a good arm.

Speaker 6 (07:22):
He has a good IQ, he knows the game, but
there's nothing that jumps out now. I will tell you this, Rob,
because of his popularity, because of his name, he will
have an opportunity to start when things go wrong and
they don't pan out the way they should and they're
screaming for him in twenty twenty five, the same back

(07:44):
in the day, Rob, he is going to have an opportunity,
but it's very clear that he's been slated in not
to start, and as long as he keeps a good
attitude and he's humble, the opportunity is gonna be there.

Speaker 7 (07:56):
Man.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
But we've seen this before, and the thing you brought
up was the best part is your popularity being bigger
than your game. And that's where we always shaudure and
people don't want to acknowledge that. That's why Ryan Nobody
wanted Tim Tebow as a backup court playoff game right
for Denver over Pittsburgh. He won a playoff game, he

(08:19):
had these comeback wins. When he went to the Jets,
they didn't play him. Nobody wanted him as a backup
because it was like, if he's on your team. The
whole conversation is about Tebow When are you gonna give
te Bow a chance?

Speaker 2 (08:34):
When is t Bow gonna play Babbo?

Speaker 7 (08:36):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (08:37):
And it becomes too much.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
That's why I think a lot of teams passed when
they realized they said, well, he's not a first round pick,
he's not a second round pick, he's not a third
round pick. We don't want to bring a guy in
on an early pick and then have to deal with
the fans demanding him and talking about him all the time,
overshadowing everything else going on. Does that make make sense

(09:00):
to you? It does, doesn't it?

Speaker 6 (09:02):
Yeah, no, it does. And t Bo was the guy
that came to mind. And you know, I can't imagine
even he won a playoff game, as you brought up
right like like, but t Bow's name was was the
biggest in the NFL. Think another one and for different reasons.
And you know this sparked a lot of controversy. Kaepernick,

(09:23):
you know how.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
He also came out of nowhere and Jim Harball saw him.
Remember Alex Smith was a quarterback for the forty nine ers,
and he was like, oh wait a minute, this kid,
Oh no, and they and they made a change.

Speaker 7 (09:35):
Well, Rob, you saw Kaepernick on both sides. You're right.
You saw Kaepernick.

Speaker 6 (09:38):
Originally take over Alex Smith, who was who came off
of probe, you reached a Pro Bowl quarterback. But on
the other end, when Kaepernick was still good enough to play,
but you knew if you signed him, And that's the
way the NBA don't do that. Okay, but do you
know what I meaning welcomes it. The NFL said, and
I believe he should have played, make no mistake, But

(09:59):
the NFL, a lot of these teams said, we.

Speaker 7 (10:01):
Signed Kaepernick, We're gonna have to We're every day. Yep.

Speaker 6 (10:06):
That's the way the NFL, NBA embraces those situations. NFL,
it's not gonna happen. Hey, I thought NBA random name
Big Three starting up. Joe Johnson played so well in
the Big Three that I think the Celtics said, man,
we'll give you.

Speaker 7 (10:21):
A ten day come on out, man, let's let's try
it out. Let's check things out. You know.

Speaker 6 (10:24):
And and if the NBA sees a guy with the
name who can play, Isaiah Thomas was the name. It
was a guy that had a big buzz and you
saw him working out, and I think the Phoenix Suns
picked him up and said we'll bring you on some ten.

Speaker 7 (10:36):
Days, you know, check you out.

Speaker 6 (10:37):
So the NBA is different in that aspect, where if
a guy has a name and he could play enough,
you're gonna get an opportunity. But the NFL just really
frowns on players taking a spotlight if it's I don't
even want to say, if it's not their time, Rob,
but just just.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
A bigger spotlight where they don't fit in.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
And especially if you're gonna be like the backup or
third string quarterback. Those guys are supposed to be you know, seen,
not heard about, right, you know you don't you don't
even want all that, And I think that's the issue.

Speaker 6 (11:08):
But tell me if I'm wrong with this. I think
because they knew who he was and they did take
him as a third or fourth stringer, at some point
you're gonna start it.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
But but they're saying right and that Mary kay Cabot
Peace Rob g didn't they also say there's a chance that.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
He would he could be cut because they can.

Speaker 7 (11:28):
Only keep three quarterback. There's no there's no way they
cut your dirt.

Speaker 6 (11:33):
There's no way, Rob, Yeah, because no team keeps four
quarterback nobody, But you're you're right.

Speaker 7 (11:38):
Nobody keeps four.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
And I'm just saying Deshaun is on the team, right,
I mean, I know he's hurt.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
But who they're gonna keep. They're gonna keep Picket, They're
gonna keep.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Gabriel, who they drafted ahead of Shador and and and
they're gonna keep Joe Flacco the quarter There's no way
they cut him.

Speaker 7 (11:58):
There's no way they win do that.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
And what are you gonna cut?

Speaker 7 (12:01):
They're just gonna hold extra. They're gonna hold extra.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
It's not they're not.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
I don't believe that's not gonna have four quarterbacks, Rob.

Speaker 6 (12:10):
They're gonna make an exception for Shadure. They knew what
they did when they win and got them. And obviously
the Browns are a team that you know, could use
some energy, could use a push to their fans are
willing to go out and take a chance.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
And they'll get the quarterback thing right in the wall, man, Man, they're.

Speaker 6 (12:27):
Sell they're selling Shad jerseys already. Come on, come on, Rob,
you know that they're selling the jerseys already.

Speaker 7 (12:33):
That boy ain't going nowhere.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
They sold Tim Tebow jerseys too. Nobody wanted them after.

Speaker 7 (12:38):
But this is different. T BO was coming in and
did get.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
On Peepo want a playoff game, even play them real game.

Speaker 7 (12:44):
So you're telling me they're gonna cut your dr Sanders.
You're saying there's a chance.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
I don't believe it, saying there's a chance. When you
look at it, they're not gonna keep four quarterbacks.

Speaker 6 (12:52):
No, it'll be unorthodox, it's it's not common, but they will.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Eight seven to seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Do you think he has all we'll have a shot
as Ryan does.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Ryan believes he's gonna have a shot. I'm not there.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
I think there's a good chance he'll be cut by
the Browns if they keep the three quarterbacks I mentioned
already as Kenny Pickett, which they've already gave the bulk
of the number one snaps right uh, Flaco and Dylan
Gabriel who they drafted ahead of shador If they take
those three, there's no room for shador Am. I crazy

(13:31):
eight seven to seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven six sixty three sixty nine. It is the odd
couple On a Funky Flashback Friday, Rob Parker, Ryan Hollins

I need baby oil. We definitely, I definitely need baby oil.
Good hands. I mean, I don't know what I'm saying.
Alex just shaking his head at me.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Rob Sterling Junior, That's right, it is the odd couple.
Rob Parker, Ryan Hollins in for kelvin Washington This Father's
Day Weekend eight seven seven ninety nine.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
On Fox is a telephone number.

For over forty years, tire Rack has been helping customers

rack dot Com the way tire buying should be. And

(14:51):
Rafael Barlow, the NBA Draft consultant, will be joining us
in about seven or eight minutes, but we're talking about
Shador Sander before we get there and get to your calls.
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Just where the
future is? It doesn't sound like they have them in
the plans. As of yet, uh and can he be cut?

(15:11):
They got too many quarterbacks on the roster. But we
do have some news, Ryan Hollins, that'll be interesting for you.
Rob G has it and the all I'm gonna say
first is that the Thunder going back to the original lineup,
because remember they changed it, Rob G, you got the details.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
That's right.

Speaker 5 (15:29):
We made a big deal about this before Game one.

Speaker 7 (15:31):
Why they right?

Speaker 4 (15:32):
Even though we've won eighty percent of our games by
double digits, we are changing things up for the finals.
We're gonna bench bench, Asaiah Hardenstein start, Case Sound Wallace.
They've done that for the last three games, but tonight
they're going back back back to Cali. The double big
lineup is back. Hartenstein and Holmege will both start for

(15:53):
the Oklahoma City Thunder. Here's a big staff for you
guys though in these NBA Finals, that double big look
that carried them for a lot of the season and
through these playoffs have only played five.

Speaker 5 (16:05):
Minutes together in the NBA Finals.

Speaker 7 (16:07):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
So we'll see if this ends up being a good IDEA.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Ryan, real quick, and before we get to the phone,
calls eight seven to seven ninety nine on Fox. Just
your thought real quick. My ony thing was, why would
you change in the finals? I don't adapt to what
they're doing. I want them to adapt to what we're doing.

Speaker 6 (16:25):
Yeah, you're right about that. And here's the thing. He
did it for game one, and I understand. You gotta
guard the spacing right of the pacers. They pace you
and space you, and they move it faster than anybody,
so you want to keep up and stay out of rotation.
When you get in rotation against that team, you're cooked.
But in all reality, you hit it right on the head.

(16:46):
Let's see what we originally do doesn't work, and then
we switched. I was a guy who came off the bench.
I can't imagine coming off the bench all season long
being finals. Coaches like your start and I'm like, I
don't even know how to come out the lineup the.

Speaker 7 (16:59):
Right way, all right.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
I don't even know how to rip my sweats off
the right way before the game.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Okay, maybe not?

Speaker 7 (17:05):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Leo eight seven seven ninety on Fox, Leo in New
York City.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
You're in the odd couple Fox? What's Radio? What's up? Leo?

Speaker 8 (17:15):
I made Rob.

Speaker 9 (17:16):
We always say the wise man learned from others mistakes.
When the smart man learned from his mistake. All okay
he did was said to be proactive and learning from
the others mistake. Guzmn uh nikes, et cetera. You play
too big and you know they tried to go corrective
and changed. But you know what, that's the way I called.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
You called for your door, right exactly.

Speaker 9 (17:42):
So when it comes to shr door, Rob and I'm
gonna say, okay, if the kids stayed well against the
the second the second stream, and you're saying that all
was I'm not a starting If you didn't play well,
you would be saying, oh, that's why it's the difference
that you can't ever play well.

Speaker 7 (17:59):
You know.

Speaker 9 (17:59):
The second thing, well, diminish that all I know is
what are you saying? Are you telling me that he
will not send ot to play singles.

Speaker 8 (18:10):
Down for the Brown next year? Is that what you're saying?

Speaker 2 (18:13):
That is what I'm saying. I'm on I'm on the record,
That's what.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
I'm saying, because it doesn't with five quarterbacks. One who's
heard who's not gonna play right, we already know that
Deshan Watson. But the idea that they don't Ryan, I
don't see you don't carry four quarterbacks in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
So I'm trying to.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
Figure out how they had a plan. They had a
plan when they drafted them, and it wasn't a cut
him round. I don't believe that, but it's er unorthodox.
They're selling some tickets in jerseys and you got a
chance to play. They're gonna make a move. There's trades
that happened.

Speaker 7 (18:47):
Come on, rob Okay, So he's got value.

Speaker 6 (18:49):
Shder has some value. There is nothing that's not poporm like.
He's got no Value's the fifth round pick. He was
one of the top quarterbacks in all the college football.
He's got value. You'll just get rid of value.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
How many top ranked teams did he beat in his
college career. I'll wait.

Speaker 7 (19:08):
Get my back. They beat something my they be.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
One team that was ranked.

Speaker 7 (19:14):
Right, was excited, we were all excited.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
Well, no, they beat with the TCU in their first game.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
But but that was but the end of the season.
TCU is no longer run exactly like TCU. Uh, he couldn't.

Speaker 7 (19:28):
It was the offensive line.

Speaker 6 (19:29):
Rob if they had offensive line, d I didn't get
offensive line.

Speaker 7 (19:32):
He was running for his life.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Back there there's always something else, right, not your fault.
Everything is somebody else. I got it.

Speaker 5 (19:38):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
All I'm saying is too many, too many cooks in
the kitchen. Somebody's gotta go out. All right, let's get
you caught up with Steve de Sega.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
All right, it is the Eye Couple on a funk
he flashback Friday, Rob Parker, Ryan Hollins in for Kelvin
Washington right here on Fox Sports Radio. Let's welcome in
our guest Rafael Barlow, who is an NBA Draft consultant
on NBA Big Board, owner and author.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
Rafael. What's up? Say hi to Ryan Hollins.

Speaker 7 (20:17):
How are you?

Speaker 8 (20:18):
I'm good man, what's up? Ryan? How are you?

Speaker 7 (20:20):
What's up? Raphael's going on?

Speaker 2 (20:23):
We're all good man. Try to get us ready for
this draft.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Let's just start with the obvious Cooper flag and just
evaluate him. We all know he's gonna be the first
pick and whatnot, And give me a fair comparison of
somebody he would would look like or play like or
something like that. First, tell me, just how much do
you like him or not?

Speaker 8 (20:46):
Yeah? I like Cooper Flags a lot. There's a lot
too just like about his game. He's tough, he's competitive,
he plays the right way. But more importantly, he's getting
better every year. When I first got play, I thought
he was going to be just an athletic play finisher
and connective passer. But over the last two years, we've

(21:09):
seen him add to his game as far as been
a shooter, been able to make plays out of ball string.
And he's young. He started the season at seventeen years old.
So if you think about it, especially in today's day, eight, man,
this guy's are a seventeen year old sophomores in high
school and he was a seventeen year old freshman plan
on the biggest stage in college basketball. So I like

(21:30):
that about him. Man, comparison is tough, and he's veryous.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Not just Larry Bird because he's white, because come on,
Rob No, but a lot of guys.

Speaker 9 (21:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (21:42):
I like to I mean, I like to really think
outside the box. I think everybody should make cross racial comparisons.
In a sense, not every white player is going to
be right, right, a white player, not every European. It
should be compared to the European people even do it
with schools. They only compare dupe guys to do guys,
the Kansas guys to Kansas guys. So I tried my

(22:03):
best to really think outside the box. But Flag has
He's like Gumbo.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
In a sense.

Speaker 8 (22:11):
So there's a lot of different like people that I
think that he could play similar to. I think a
lazy comparison. Maybe defensively, he's ire Carelinko, so that's my
lazy white on white comparison. But I think that with
the way he shoots the ball, I've actually heard that

(22:33):
he likes to patter his game after Kawhi Leonard a
little bit, and so.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
I've heard that, Yeah, I've heard that.

Speaker 8 (22:39):
Yep, I can see some of that. When I first
saw Kawhi out of San Diego State, I thought he
was a four because he was like a really great
rebounder at college, and then as he got older, he
developed into like a playmaker, a guy that can make
plays by the boss Greens developed into a shooter, and
I think Flag has a natural background as like a four,

(23:01):
so I could see him like slowly developing into that
type of three four wings. I think some people compared
him to Tatum. I don't necessarily see that. I think
that he could be a smaller version and scale down
version as far as intensively of Kevin Garnett. Garnett was

(23:21):
a guy that could score, but he was at his
best on Boston when he was like one A or
you know, just depending on how you saw that roster.
But he was the engine that made that Cell six
team go. And so I think Flack could have a
similar career.

Speaker 6 (23:38):
Okay, is it safe to say that we're going to
see some fireworks in this NBA draft? And if so,
what players, what superstar players should we look for getting traded,
and what picks and what teams are willing to move
off their picks?

Speaker 7 (23:53):
What are you hearing?

Speaker 8 (23:55):
I do think that it's going to be a wild
draft day. I think he could be similar to the
trade deadline. As you remember, the trade deadline was just
I mean, it was just crazy. It was like every
few minutes there was a new trade coming in. With
all the parody in today's NBA, I think there's some
teams that feel like there may be a piece away,
and then there may be some teams that feel like, man,
we got to cut costs because the second apron is

(24:17):
real and it's getting expensive. So I think there's going
to be a lot of movement. Obviously, Kevin Durant could
be the first domino to fall, and I think after
that you could end up seeing some other names fall.
But I really think it's going to be a situation
where there's going to be some trades that nobody expected
that literally just come out of nowhere.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
All right, let me ask you about Dylan Harper was
expected to go number two to the Spurs, but they
already have the Aaron Fox. We know that he'll be
coming back. Stephancastle won the Rookie of the Year. Could
you see them passing on Harper for someone else or
maybe even trade down or something.

Speaker 8 (24:55):
Yeah, I saw the rumor. Well, I guess it was
carefully worded that the Sick is engaged with the Spurs
about moving up to number two. So I'm wondering, like,
is that a real rumor?

Speaker 4 (25:06):
Or is it?

Speaker 2 (25:07):
You know?

Speaker 8 (25:07):
The word engaged was that I don't know if I
even go to the Ferrari dealership and engage in the Ferrits.
I mean, I'm gonna get it right, I don't know.
I'm not sure what to think of that, but I
do think that the fit is not the best for
Dylan Harper because you have three, well you would have
three guards who I think are all best with the
ball in their hands. I know Fox had a good

(25:28):
year shooting a couple of years ago, we shot like
thirty seven percent from three, but overall he's still about
a thirty three percent shooter from three, and he's definitely
best with the ball in his hands. And I mean,
if you think about it, just a few years ago,
him and Halliburton didn't work, and Halliburton is probably the
easiest guard to play with because he can play on
and off the ball, and he's really unselfish. Capital's best

(25:51):
with the ball in his hands. He really struggled shooting.
So I don't like the set, but I do think
that san Antonio is going to take him because in
my opinion, he is the best play available and that's
something that you always do and then you just kind
of work out for fit later on.

Speaker 6 (26:06):
Okay, you got flag and Harper pretty much slayed it
in is there? How deep would you say that this
draft is as far as quality?

Speaker 7 (26:16):
Where would you go as far as quality with this draft?
How deep can you go?

Speaker 8 (26:21):
I actually think this draft, as far as quality, I
think there's I guess when I look at quality, let
me go back. When I look at quality, I think
of how many guys are going to stick and play
six to eight years, And I think there's about twenty
to twenty three guys that I think can stick. Now
as far as being starters or high level rotation players,
I think you can get about ten. But it's such

(26:44):
a crapshoot. I mean, if you go back to last
year's draft, nobody saw Cheering Well being like you know,
all rookies, and he was selected in the thirties. So
I do think that there are going to be some
guys are a little bit older prospects that are more
ready to contribute that we're probably outplay some of the
younger freshmen who were selected a lot higher.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
All right, how about last year we had the international flavor.
Of course, first two players overall were international. Are there
any international guys that we could see going high in
this year's draft.

Speaker 8 (27:18):
Yeah, there's a few. So the first one that I
think will be picked is Noah a Singe from France.
He's playing for a team in Germany, he's actually playing
the playoffs right now. But he's a guy that if
I had to make a comparison, and I'm not the
best of making comparisons, but I see like a hybrid

(27:38):
of like Sean Marion and Kayshaun Prince. He just measured
out at sixteen without shoes. He's sinned, but he's picked
up some weight the last few years. But he's been
productive and just understands how to impact the game by
being active, whether it's cutting, whether it's it's finishing that transition,
offensive rebounds, and he's played a big role or a

(28:00):
team that's competing in the playoffs. He's one of the
youngest players in the draft. He was seventeen until like
late December, So I think that he has a lot
of upside and I think would be crazy for him
to get past Brooklyn at number eight.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Our guest is Rafael Barlow, NBA Draft consultant, NBA Big
Board owner and author.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
We got one more Ryan, Yeah?

Speaker 7 (28:23):
Yeah, Do you have a name as a sleeper man?
You talked about it.

Speaker 6 (28:27):
It was a crapshoot, But is anyone that sticks out
to you that you're like, man, this guy is NBA ready.
He can go in and he's going to make an impact,
or he's going to be able to give good minutes
to a team.

Speaker 7 (28:37):
And sometimes it's.

Speaker 6 (28:39):
Those rookies that go to the playoff teams that kind
of come in and can make impacts and fit in
with good guys.

Speaker 8 (28:47):
Yeah, I do. It's Stafford's Max thing Rena. I've been
high on him all year. People are saying he's one
of the biggest risers since the combine, but I find
that kind of funny simply because he averaged twenty points
and eleven rebounds this year at Stanford. He had a
historic year where he was second in the ACC and

(29:07):
scoring first and rebounding and he was just shy of
winning the scoring title. And he made the most or
the second most three planners in NCAA history by a
seventh footer. Only Lori Market and made more threes as
a seventh footer. So we're talking about a seven footer
that entered college on a partial scholarship. So he's gotten
better every year. Only averaged four and a half points

(29:28):
the game as a freshman, so entered college not on
anybody's radar. He's still a young senior at twenty two
and finishes his last year averaging twenty and eleven and
made over sixty three. And he's very skilled. He's a
good athlete. He can score on the block, right hand,
left hand, he can attack, close out, finish in transition.

(29:48):
I think he's a sleeper that's been hiding in playing sight.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
All right, Thank you, Ralphiel Barlow.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
We appreciate all your insight into the NBA Draft, which
will be coming up.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
Thank you, my man, Thank you any time. All right.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
It is the odd Couple. On a Funky Flashback Friday.
Rob Parker, Ryan Hollins in for Kelvin Washington. We're gonna
talk a little.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Bit about Russell Westbrook.

Speaker 7 (30:11):
What should he do?

Speaker 1 (30:13):
Should he stick around in the NBA or should he
take the money and Ron New Europe. We'll do that
and much more coming up on a Funky Flashback Friday
right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (30:22):
Stick and stay unless they're offering you a lot of
money to play somewhere else in the US of A.

Speaker 1 (30:44):

Speaker 2 (31:29):
Hey, Ryan Hollins, did you play in Europe? Did you
play in Europe at all?

Speaker 7 (31:34):
I did one year of Spain in Italy ro How
was precident?

Speaker 1 (31:37):
Know that you know what, I've played on a lot
of teams, but I did not know that for sure,
so I wanted to ask. I want to bring Rob
g in because Russell Westbrook has already opted out of
his player option right with the Denver Nuggets, and most
of the time, you know it could go be on
another team in another situation. Although what is this Rob

(31:59):
Gion six years or seven years like he's been on
a ton of teams since he left to Thunder.

Speaker 2 (32:06):
But the wrinkle Robb G is that.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
There's an lucrative deal, right or for a European team
that's interested in Russell Westbrook.

Speaker 5 (32:13):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
It was reported late last week that there is a
team overseas, I believe in Israel that is going to
make a historic offer to Russell Westbrook to come and
join them for next season. Now, we've had several reports
come but none of them confirmed, but you know, people
leak stuff on the internet. A couple of reports have
suggested the offer is going to be in the neighborhood

(32:35):
of three years, one hundred and fifty million dollars for
Russell Westbrook to leave the NBA and finish out his
basketball career.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
Only did you hear that, Ryan?

Speaker 7 (32:45):
That money? I hired it. I hired it. That's fifty
a year.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
That's incredible If that's the real money. My take is
real simple. How many teams has he been on?

Speaker 7 (32:55):
Rob G?

Speaker 2 (32:56):
Is a six?

Speaker 7 (32:57):
Like?

Speaker 1 (32:57):
Seriously, because after he left the Thunder, he played for Washington,
he played Denver, he played with the Lakers, he played
with the Clippers. Like he's been on like Ryan six
teams in six years. That's what it feels like. What's
the six right? Okay, enough with the hopping around. The
guy's a top seventy five player of all time. He
won MVP, He's going to be in the Basketball Hall

(33:19):
of Fame, all that other stuff.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
I take the money and go to Europe.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
I really would rather than just being a piece on
some other team. I know he didn't win a championship,
but I would be good with that.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
He's had a Hall of.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
Fame career, a long career, has made a lot of money.
But to cap off your playing career with that kind
of loot, that would be hard for me to turn down.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
Where are you?

Speaker 6 (33:45):
I think he turns it down For one I've got
to see first and foremost that the deal is real. Yeah,
I'm saying if this is that concept, but even seeing
it be real, Russell Westbrook has made enough money.

Speaker 7 (33:57):
And here's the thing. When you have to pass up
one fifty.

Speaker 6 (34:00):
Here's the thing, Rob, when you get later in your career,
you don't want to uproot your family like that. You
don't want to move away. He's made He's made a
pretty penny. So I don't even know if he would
need fifty a year. For three years, He's made great money,
and I think that he can do more in the States,
and for him, I think more to focus at least later.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
On another team seven team.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
I'm just saying the idea that you're just a bench
player and you're on another team, another situation. I mean,
he's been it just hasn't been a pretty finish And
I'm telling you, I already know he's going to be
a Hall of Fame. We got that, the triple doubles,
all that. I'm not even trying to disparage his career.

Speaker 6 (34:41):
No, but I feel like this year he had a
great year. You know what, he did a good job.
It was a spark in Denver. I think obviously he
had some mistakes you know that he owned, but overall,
Russell Westbrook played really, really good basketball this season. So
I definitely believe there's absolutely another NBA opportunity. It's always

(35:01):
good when you when your name is thrown around and
to be wanted.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
So I think three hundred and forty five million in
his career, which is not it is a pretty penny.
Even if you give up half for taxes, you still
made a ton of money.

Speaker 6 (35:16):
And off the court endeavors too because he's a marketable,
he's a name rob. So you got to understand it's
not just the NBA contract and you're not going to
have those same opportunities overseas.

Speaker 7 (35:26):
You know. That was a huge part.

Speaker 6 (35:27):
While I only played one year, I said, I got
to get back and start this media thing. My kids
are younger. I don't see me trying to move them
all around Europe?

Speaker 7 (35:35):
You know all those things? Did you like it?

Speaker 1 (35:36):
What I've hear when I talk to people who I've played,
all of them want to come back home, Like almost
nobody wants to play there. Even though you got money
tax free and all that. It's different playing right in
a foreign country.

Speaker 6 (35:50):
It is, and especially like I said, when your kids
are younger, and depending on the situation, and some places
are beautiful, you know. And I played in a good
place Spain, Grant Can area. I was on an island
rob by the way, and then in Toronto was very
American friendly. In Italy, so I got a great experience.
I was just like, you know, enough is enough. But
here's the thing, out of sight, out of mind. If

(36:12):
I stay there for five or six more years and
I come back, these broadcast opportunities weren't weren't going to
be there, and I was working on broadcasting already. So
I said, while I still can name the guys that
are still hot and I have relevance or I can
speak to that, I better do this broadcasting deal.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
And it worked out for you.

Speaker 7 (36:30):
There it is it?

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Yeah, so I get it.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
I just think Man one hundred and fifty, to wrap
it up at the end, you know, where you have
nothing else to prove in the NBA unless he really
has held bent on winning a championship, and there's no
guarantee of that, you know.

Speaker 6 (36:45):
I mean, I'm intrigued to see what Russ's endorsements are.
And that's where he would make up some of a
lot of that slack, you know, and that would be
playing in the States, playing in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
You played for a lot of teams?

Speaker 7 (36:57):
What is that like?

Speaker 1 (36:58):
I mean, did you play for ten teams? Are my
exaggerating excuse me?

Speaker 7 (37:03):
Nine teams in ten years?

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Nine teams?

Speaker 7 (37:05):
I'm sorry, So to make it.

Speaker 10 (37:06):
Make no all right, I'm just saying, all right, Bill, no,
But in all seriousness, you're just kind of getting the
rhythm of moving and you know, I thought this year
he was very welcomed.

Speaker 6 (37:19):
I wouldn't be surprised if Denver throws a little more
money his way to lure him back. I thought, I
thought he was a piece that they need. They needed
him to play big minutes this season.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
No, I got it.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
I'm just looking at it from the standpoint of a
way to try.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
To finish up.

Speaker 7 (37:35):
Hey, I tell you what you like.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
People always say I always got enough money.

Speaker 7 (37:38):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (37:38):
I don't know about that. Like endless shrimp.

Speaker 7 (37:41):
I'm rob.

Speaker 6 (37:42):
I tell you one thing from my experience, it's a
lot easier going team to team in the States in
the NBA and then playing overseas. That's a that's a change,
you know, that's a real sacrifice.

Speaker 7 (37:52):
You got to throw out.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
Yeah, I could see that. That is a lot, especially
for a guy who is going.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
To go to the Hall of Fame. So maybe he
just to say I'm gonna finish my career there.

Speaker 7 (38:00):
All right.

Speaker 1 (38:01):
Coming up next, we're gonna talk about the Jannis and
him possibly moving and the Pacers off to a good
start here in the first quarter against the Thunder. The
Thunder might be in throbble. I'm just saying this is
gonna be amazing. It's the odd couple
