(01:05):
Not so with Discover Card, because you can redeem your

I mean, it is amazing, folks. You can learn more
at Discovered dot com. Slash Redeem rewards terms do apply,
all right. It is the Odd Couple. Chris and I

(01:27):
from We got quadre Ishmael coming up at the bottom
of the hour and he U does broadcasting now on
the Ravens Baltimore Ravens. So we talked about Lamar being
in our view unfairly left out of the top ten
of quarterbacks in the league. So we will certainly talk

(01:47):
to him about that, but for now, we want to
go to the NBA. And I from Damian Lillard, who
is one of the best players in the NBA, and
brought him up earlier. He just accepted a two year,
one hundred and twenty million dollar extension one hundred twenty

(02:08):
two million I think dollar extension with the Portland Trailblazers
that could if he's not traded before then, it'll finish
his career in Portland. And he is a guy that
you know hasn't won the championship, and quite honestly, he

(02:33):
from I don't think he will win a championship. But
Rob g tell us what he said. We've kind of
banged a little bit. We haven't crushed him, but we
banged a little bit on Bradley Beale for being in
a situation in Washington saying he wants to win but
resigning with that hapless team over and over again. Tell

(02:54):
us what Damian Lillard said about staying in Portland rather
than trying to join go somewhere else and join the
team that could win the championship. While Chris he said
a lot. But here's the money quote he said quote.
I've always said that if I do something that goes
against who I am and say I do end up winning,
I know me better than any of y'all know me.
So I'd be happy with it, because I don't think

(03:16):
anybody wouldn't be happy being a champion. But it wouldn't
be as fulfilling to me as I would want that
moment to be. As long as I have an opportunity
to do it, a good opportunity to do it, which
is winning a championship, I'm willing to go out. However,
I think it's a very mature statement from I'm gonna
let you share your thoughts before I dig in. Look, man,

(03:39):
you gotta realize, okay, not everybody we get caught up
in this whole thing, especially when you have, you know,
a team like or a player like Tom Brady gets
seven rings and you have these little baby dynasties with
Golden State and you have the Lakers run at a
dynasty in these teams. Wait wait wait wait wait wait

(04:02):
baby dynasty. Golden State winning four and six years is
the baby dynasty. But the Lakers Lakers have, Lakers have
seventeen championships. Okay, but that's what I mean right right lately,
I just wanted to check the Lakers fans in No,
don't don't don't, don't check it because in the eighties
they want five and in ten years, right like so

(04:24):
forty years ago. But that's what I'm saying, Like I'm
saying in terms of dynasty's right, Golden State has four
Golden State of many because they have four, four and
six years, but only four years. But only four though,
But is it six years as a dynasty? Okay? All right? Anyway, um,
I know you got the hattle, you just got Hey,

(04:45):
you gotta exit it right there. I couldn't wait to
jump in. I'm just not checking it. You come on, man,
you're not You're not you know you're not checking nothing. Man,
come on, man, catch up. That's all I'm saying. Anyway,
And so we get swept up in this or everybody's

(05:07):
got to win a championship. Everybody gotta get it. You
gotta go. You gotta go get you one man. You
gotta go find to a team. You gotta get you one.
Everybody doesn't get a chance to win the championship. Some
of the greatest players in the world have never won
a championship. Absolutely, and that's not always And I'm not
trying to say Dame Lillard isn't he doesn't want to

(05:28):
win a championship. That's not what I'm saying. What I'm
saying is he's not going to chase it if it's
not something he wants to he feels good about. Right.
He has made it clear, abundantly clear, he wants to
stay in Portland. Can Portland put a team around him
that can win a championship or compete for a championship? No? Right, Okay,

(05:49):
no they can't. We've seen them fail time and time again.
Not a lot of free agents going to Portland. Right.
So with that said, look, Dame is is a dynamic player.
He's gonna be making I mean half a billion dollars
four hundred and thirty five million dollars, half a billion dollars. Right, So,

(06:15):
Dame from Oakland, East Oakland throwing a million dollars from
East Oakland. Right, Oh, he good, he good, He's good.
He's gonna be a Hall of Famer. He's the tops.
Come on, man, it's like, what are we what are
we doing? We want to nitpits because because he doesn't
want to jump on the trend of going the team

(06:36):
up with everybody else and going to somebody else's team.
This is Dame Lillard's team. So he would have to
leave his team and go join someone else's team to
win a championship, and he not with it. Well, let
me let me say this, and I want to see
if you agree with this or what your thoughts are
on this. I respect Dame, and I said, look, and

(06:57):
I respect Bradley Bill too, I said, I said about
Bradley Bill. Look, there are people like this in every profession.
Bradley Bill, to your point with Dame, is making ten
hundreds of millions of dollars. He's making about the same
amount as Damp and so he's making money beyond your
wildest dreams. He's obviously in a city that he loves, DC,

(07:20):
which which we all like. I like DC. His family
is happy, as kids are probably happy, and where they're at,
got friends he's an All Star just about every year,
and he's got everything he wants except he's not winning.
But that he's happy, and I'm cool with that. I'm

(07:41):
fine with that. He's happy, his family's happy, right right right.
It's like there are people in our business that don't
have to win a Pullets or they're not tripping if
they don't get a Pullets one awards. I don't get it.
I'm turning it up in here, that wreck and no,
but you're absolutely right, like, look, man, this is a job,

(08:03):
a job that has an expiration date. So what you
must do is you must capitalize on your earning potential
now right, you get in the lead covery carry you
the rest of your life. Everybody though, not just you,
right right right, everybody, your kids, kids, you want to
talk about in this In this country, we have a

(08:25):
problem as African Americans, uh, with creating generational wealth right right,
because we didn't start in this country with the ability
to generate right generational right. So all of these people
coming out saying, oh they're tripping in these two man,
that little thirty million, forty million you pass up on

(08:47):
to go join some other team, and that has long
lasting ramifications for your your whole family. But here here's
the thing, and I said this about Bill where I
differentiate between him and Lillard Iverson because Iverson had the

(09:08):
same mentality as the Lord never wanted to leave Philadelphia,
was like, I'm gonna try my best to win a
championship here in Philly and lead this team to that ring,
and if I don't get it, I can live with that.
Westbrook had the same mentality. Okay. See the difference to
me between them and Bill is that at least their teams.
And I know Dame and the Blazers are down now

(09:30):
and I think they're gonna stay down for the most part,
but they He's been to a conference finals. Iverson had
been to the finals. Westbrook had been to the finals,
been the conference finals. I know he lost KD, but
still they were a playoff team regularly. They at least
could look at something and see there's there are the

(09:52):
makings the foundation of a team that could one day
compete for a championship. Is hell here, Bill, they don't
have that in Washington. They don't. But this is my
ultimate point, This is what I really want to see
how you feel about this. I respect Dame. I respected
Ai and Rust Brook for their stance, but let's keep

(10:15):
it real because the two players that we think of
that are the poster boys for leaving a team a
franchise to win a championship or championships are Lebron James
and Kevin Durant. And here's what I say, Ephraim, as
great as Dame is first ballot Hall of Famer top

(10:37):
seventy five, all that he is not at that super
duper historical elite level where you must win a championship
where if you don't, even as people will give you
credit for your individual greatness, there will always be the

(11:01):
big yeah, but right at the top of your the
paragraph when they talk about you. And I'm talking like
Lebron James was being compared to Michael Jordan's he had
to win. Kevin Durant was being compared to Lebron James.
After Lebron won in Miami and in Cleveland, he had

(11:21):
to win. It's like Patrick Ewing, Patrick Ewing, we all
recognize man, he was great, but we and I don't
even put Barkley where Ewing what Now? I do think
Barkley was better than Ewing, had a better career. But
I'm saying Patrick came out of college right he was
gonna be the next Bill Russell, this defensive star wart

(11:45):
who you know was gonna lead the Knicks to the
Promised Land and never did. And when you think about
Patrick Ewing, yes we acknowledge his greatness, but I'm telling
you one of the first thoughts is, but he never
won a championship. He underachieved, he didn't live up to
the billing. Barkley didn't have that billing going in, and

(12:08):
he over he exceeded what people thought he was gonna do,
even if he thought he didn't win a championship. But
that my point is Dame is not there like if
Dame doesn't win a ring, he from nobody's gonna be tripping. No,
he didn't, you know what I mean? Like, and that's
there are a handful of guys that are at that

(12:28):
level where it's like, you gotta win. And so that's
that's the difference to me between what Lebron did and
what kd did. And while I respected Dame's decision, isn't
as tough. Do you you get what I'm saying, I
get exactly where you're You're You're coming from and to

(12:49):
that point, let me ask you this question, who are
those players currently in the league who fit that billing
who have not won a championship yet? Yeah, that's a
great question. I think Luca will be will be there.
He's not yet, he's still what fifth fourth year, so
it'll be his fifth year, I believe, Um, but Luca

(13:11):
will be there. Uh, you know, most of the like
Kawai's obviously one, Jannis is one, embed embed I think
will be there. You know, um, what about hardness there?
What about your kitchen? That's a good one right now,

(13:34):
I feel you. I he and he does strangely get
a pass, doesn't he? Because yes, and everybody's like, okay,
well right right, he strangely gets a pass and I
don't quite know why. So because he's uard, you can't
you can't guard him like I mean, he he has
the ability from the center position to take over a

(13:57):
game like very few can right at that position, and
but we don't. Maybe as time goes on, and I
think some of it, like I mentioned with Eween, I think,
you know, maybe that's part of it, is that Yokish
kind of came out of nowhere to us embed I

(14:22):
don't like he We didn't expect him to be Patrick
Eween either, you know what I mean, Like we expect
him to be good, but he had just started playing
ball in his teens and he's from camera, you know.
So those two, like, I don't think people are killing
embed yet. Maybe it's because they've still got they're young,
relatively young. But that's a great question. I will say

(14:45):
this about the guards, and maybe we'll see a changing
of the guard, so to speak, in that. One of
the reasons there's not that pressure on Dame is because
they're only three guards, small guards, and Dame is six
two two small guards who have led many dynasties or dynasties.
That's Isaiah Thomas in Detroit and Steph Curry. And if

(15:10):
you're throwing Gus Williams, you might remember gust the Wizard
Williams in Seattle. And now I don't know that that
was his team. You had Dennis Johnson, you had Jack Sick,
but that was like a really good team. But he
was the leading scorer of the year. They won the championship.
So if you want to throw him in as a
smaller player leading a team to the championship, my point
is this eve Ram It's rare. We we don't really

(15:31):
expect it from little guys because it I just mentioned
the three that have done it. Yeah, and they they
had Hall of Fame help, right, absolutely, they had Hall
of Fame help. Both of those guys had Hall of
Fame help. Ye. And so unless Dame is able to
are the you know, ownership is able to fill that

(15:53):
roster with Hall of Fame help, then you get to
be on iverson right right right. Ai was one that
got them close obviously alone right, virtually alone, you know,
And so that in today's NBA that is almost it's

(16:16):
so difficult to do. But what I wonder he from
his will that change because of the way the game is.
Like John Moran, he's only six three in four years.
If he hasn't won a ring, will we be saying, yo,
he ain't quite what we thought he was. He hasn't
gotten the ring, he hasn't got to the finals. Like

(16:37):
I wonder if that narrative is gonna change where you
do start to expect smaller guys to lead their teams
to championships, maybe because the way Steph has done it,
and just because of the way the game has changed.
To really give smaller players some advantages. Well, you just
gotta have a dynamic supporting cast. Man. I don't see

(16:59):
Lebron James is the last person to take a subpar
team to the finals by himself. I'm talking about with
Delava Dova and right, you know, right just now, you're

(17:19):
gonna have to talent. You're gonna have to have talent.
We gotta get we gotta get to the college. Yeah.
A seven seven nine ninety six sixty three sixty nine.
Do you agree with Damian Lillard's decision to stay in Portland? Dude?
Is it refreshing to you in an era of super teams?
And I mean even now we got Kevin Durant, one
of the all time greats, looking to go somewhere else

(17:42):
to win. Is Dame refreshing or do you think he
should join the parade to join other superstars? A seven
seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. You'll turn

you gotta you gotta get wus Man, That's that's what
makes the difference. And Brusarry. You gotta go punk Nick.

That Purple is for the Baltimore Ravens. Kadre. It'smael Kadre.
Welcome to the I Couple, Chris, appreciate you have me
on the always. It is great to have you and

(20:58):
so much to get into. Well let's start, and I
imagine you've either seen or heard about this ESPN poll
that they do annually, and this year they did it.
They rank in the top ten quarterbacks and it's this
is by executive scouts, players, coaches, people around the league,

(21:19):
and they don't have Lamar Jackson in the top ten.
Deshaun Watson is nine, Dak Prescott is ten, Russell Wilson
is eight, Justin Herbert seven, So those are some of
the guys that are in there. What is your thought
about not having Lamar as a top ten quarterback in
the league. I just think it's criminal. I think for

(21:42):
the caliber player he is, the things he's done with
the football, both in the end on the ground, and
what do we do when we talk about quarterbacks and
head coaches wins, right, and they win and they get
all the credit and when they lose, they get all

(22:04):
the blame. For Lamar Jackson, the amount of games that
he has played, he has won the majority of his games. Therefore,
when you look at what he's able to accomplish in
such a short period of time as a young quarterback,

(22:25):
it's criminal to not see it. And I'm curious as
to who these executives are and for them to put,
for example, Justin Herbert in there. Not that he's not talented,
but are we talking about talent or are we talking
about the bigger picture? And that's the total package, and
that's what Lamar Jackson brings to the table. And you're

(22:47):
absolutely right, you're talking about a dynamic quarterback in the
prime of his career who's already won an MVP. How
is it possible for him not to be ranked in
the top ten? And you have a guy in there
and Deshaun Watson who hasn't played in a year, and
we don't know when the next time he's going to play.
I think part of that is the way in which

(23:09):
they view the Baltimore Ravens offense. With Lamar Jackson won
the MVP. I branded the name Bullyball to the offense
because it was a heavy thirteen personnel where he had
the one back of three tight ends, and you know,
that was so unconventional. Everyone was, you know, spreading the

(23:31):
ball out with you know, three wide receivers being a
base package. The Ravens they went against the grain. They
random football. They dominated running the football. Lamar Jackson when
he had to throw it, he was slinging it around.
But it just didn't look like the traditional brand of

(23:53):
football that everyone was accustomed to, and so I think
that put him in a position where people were thinking
that he was just People on the outside of Baltimore.
Let me let me be more specific, we're going to
ouside of Baltimore thought he was just a running quarterback.
But people will tell you here in Baltimore, when you
watch him, you know that, yeah, he does he runs

(24:15):
the ball extremely well, but mother of Pearl, the dude
can sling the ball and does it does it well.
Every year he has stepped up his game and shown
himself to be a more complete quarterback, but will as
much as I think he should be in the top
ten Kaswy, his numbers have both running and throwing the

(24:36):
football have declined the last two years from when he
won that MVP Award and I've won one. The thing
I feared for him and it's why I think he
needs to get that contract situation done before the season
is his longevity as a guy that does run the
ball as much as he does. And he's not a

(24:56):
big guy, you know, not nearly as big as Cam Newton.
And we saw how the total it took on Cam
Newton's body. How big of a concern for you is
that going forward? And how big of a concern do
you think that is for the Ravens. Well, a couple
of things. I think, you know, great Roland's offense. Um,
it's not what we saw with Cam Newton. I think

(25:18):
Cam Newton you know, did a lot of inside zone.
He was more of a big you know, kind of
just we saved the word bully, but now I thank
for Cam. He was just his own bully. Let him
take a ton of hits. Yeah, they treat him like
a running back. Yeah, And I think for what Greg
Roman has done, especially when they were a healthy offensive

(25:42):
line wise, they did a ton of misdirection and and
pulling up the guards and tackles and you know, blocking
you know down and you know you had some RPOs
on the on on the backside of it. So if
you were caught slipping and not really discipline with your eyes,
you weren't getting the clean shot on Lamar because you

(26:05):
saw so much action going everywhere, you didn't really know
what was going on. So I think, you know, number one,
it's not what we know with Cam Newton's offense. Number two,
you know, they they yes, he has run up the
middle a few times, but he rarely gets that just
knock out hit and he's been durable. I think last year,

(26:31):
you know, unfortunately when he headed into December he was
well was I think it was Cleveland where he had
the bruise heel and that just knocked him out for
the last part of the season up until then. Running
the ball, we maybe you know, we'd be sitting up
there in the press box looking at the game and
it's like you gasped if he maybe got you know,

(26:52):
a hit, but then all of a sudden, he's standing
up and dragging back another like it's no big deal.
So I think outside of the fact that he got
the heel or the phone bruise that was in the pocket,
you know, so outside the pocket, I think he's been smart.
I don't think he's you know, really put into a
bad situation. I just think that people, for whatever the reason,
they want to pick at things that really aren't there.

(27:15):
When it comes to Lamar Jackson in this game, what
can you tell us about the ongoing contract issue in
terms of is Lamar Jackson going into this season without
a long term deal. Is there a discrepancy on the numbers?
I know Deshaun Watson's contract is kind of reset the

(27:36):
bar at the two hundred and thirty million dollars fully guaranteed.
What is the latest on that issue with the Ravens
and Lamar? Yeah, so this has kind of been the
big topic of discussion throughout the entire offseason. And to
be honest with you, I think the Ravens are saying, hey,

(27:58):
we want to give you your back bank, Uh here
take it. Whereas Lamar he's been you know, somewhat shrewd
about it and saying, nah, I'm awake. Na, I'm awake. No,
I'm awake. And yeah, you reference what we saw with
Deshaun Watson and it's fully guaranteed. I think that frustrated,
you know, a lot of owners, in particular steep of

(28:19):
shotting because he's like mother of Pearl, Now, I gotta
figure this thing out in a different way. And so
you know, his general manager, Erica Costa, you know, he
has a delicate balance of how do I protect the team,
but also how do I negotiate with a guy that's
his own agent. And so you know, typically when you're

(28:42):
the team and you know you're you're going before the
player representatives, I mean, the team is talking bad about you.
Let's just be real R and they're saying some things
that you're like, if you would have heard yourself, you'd
be like, oh thank god. Well, I think for you know, Eric,
he has to be really delicate on what he says,

(29:02):
how he says it. Um, you know, what gets leaked,
what doesn't get leaked, all those little details. So you know,
it's it's a really sticky situation. I'm not really sure
what Lamar is thinking it was in terms of like
the number that he wants or the guarantees that he wants. Um,
because he's been really you know, tight lipped with it all.

(29:24):
You know, his his camp has said nothing, which is remarkable. UM.
So I know the Ravens they want to pay him.
They want to pay him and put him up there
with all the top tier guys and and and give
him his bag. But right now, all we know is
Lamar is saying, yeah, we're keeping it behind closed doors.

(29:45):
And we also know that Lamar is saying that, uh,
he's reporting to camp. He's not trying to hold out
and and and be uh coy and and trying to
play that card for himself. Chris, let me let me
ask a follow up on that. Is there a situation
where and I was talking about this the other day
where because of the style of play he plays, right,

(30:07):
two hundred and thirty million dollars fully guaranteed will make
an owner be like, I'm not quite sure, but if
he were to wait, right, and then quarterbacks like Joe
Burrow are justin Herbert, if they get a contract closer
to that two hundred and thirty million dollars fully guaranteed contract,

(30:27):
he'd have more to leverage than because now he wouldn't
be the next guy after the big deal. There'd be
two other guys or another guy who garnered that type
of money. I mean, he's making twenty three million this
year in his final year, so you know, mentally, I
guess he wouldn't necessarily, you know, feel like he's hurting.

(30:50):
You know, that's in that generational wealth the start of
it and getting it done at the same time. Yep,
twenty three competing two hundred is you know, that's that's
that's a whole the cat, that is generational wealth. Um. So,
so yes, there are some really shrewd moves that Lamar

(31:13):
can do. The team obviously if they franchise him. Um,
you know you're looking at upwards of the fifty sixty
million guarantees if they try to do that. So yeah,
he right now is is in a good position financially.
But then at the same time contract wise, yes, he

(31:34):
could play his cards in a certain way and continue
to get just big chunks of guaranteed dollars and then
eventually say all right, cool, now, let's play ball and
continue to give me a fat deal with years as
opposed to a franchise tag type money. All right, that's

Kadry Ismael super Bowl champion, co host of the Purple

It's time for sources say check check check everyces saying

(33:05):
sports for nearly three decades, apiece, I will say this.
Let's put the big Jay journalists to the test. Its
sources say, that's right, it is sources say here on
the odd Couple Fox Sports Radio a segment where we
test Chris Brussard and now he from Salaams Journalism experienced
scenes out different between a good source and a bad one.

(33:25):
So let's get right to it, guys. I got a
couple of stories. They also had a little bit of
real they aside a little bit fixed up. Do you
guys can tell me which sources are good and which
ones are bad? I from story number one, My sources
say that newly maxed out Chicago Bulls shooting guard Zach
Levine just had himself a little baby girl. Congratulations to him,
and he named her Get this queen, So her name

(33:48):
is Queen Levine from US sources is good? Yep, Queen Levine,
Queen Levine, you have a little baby girl. True, you
sit on a throne of you know what? Yes, you
said it was so much convinced. I've learned a different

(34:10):
way to play this game. I've learned that I've learned
a different way to play this game for you. Okay,
you said it like you've read it. Yeah, I got you.
I should have been like Queen Levine. That don't make sense.
You can't believe he would do that. But okay, all right,
here we go. Story number two. My sources say that
the folks at ESPN are a little bit of hot

(34:32):
water because they did an entire segment earlier on Monday
featuring a fake John MORANQ quote that was attributed to
somebody named bal Sack sports Chris Russar. My source is good,
Uh true, I am going to say false. Oh that?

(34:55):
So what was the quote? I didn't know? That was
pretty funny. It was it a Jordan's response or was
it something? No, it wasn't. It was they took the
Jordan quarter, I'm gonna cook him, And then they added
an entire back half that said, if you were Michael
Jordan today's game, he's just and another superstar. You got me, Steph,
Luca Dame, Liliz Trey, young guys like lebron kd Yannis Kauhi.

(35:17):
It's not just about one superstar and a bunch of
other guys. Wow wow yeah wow. And ESPN did that
almost Sports Center. No, they did it on one of
their afternoon shows. Oh you gotta do what I would
have Well, of course that that other network was not
going to do the right They're not gonna do the
due diligence we do over here, not like when we've

(35:37):
never been caught up by ball sack sports. At this point,
everybody should know about ball sack. They've called enough people slipping,
you know what I'm saying. Yeah, they have not called us.
They have not called up but okay, really, yes, not
me on the show. They've caught our show before? Yes,
well what not me? They I didn't say it was you.

(35:58):
I said they caught our show before, which means they
called him. Yeah, right, that's what that means. They called
him all right here. Story number three, My sources say
that UH Jets quarterback Zach Wilson made some headlines over
the weekend when his ex girlfriend went on Instagram and

(36:20):
said that the Jets quarterback slept with his mom's best friend.
Oh oh, Chris, you're winning right, So are my sources? Good? Okay, So,
Zach Wilson's ex ex girlfriend says that Zach slept with
his own mother's best friend. Sez, I'm gonna say false,

(36:42):
I'm gonna go with true. Oh, I shouldn't know. He's
mom's out there. I don't know out there like that,
But I mean she's she's colorful like you know she's
she likes, well, we don't know if he actually did it.
We just know that the girlfriend is saying that he
did like I wasn't saying it too, Like, yeah, he
did it, I'm saying it too. But that sounds like

(37:04):
a celennial or what generation. See they outlanded death though
anything out did that sounds like a woman scorned. This
is already the best move in the Jets off season.
Let me tell you that. All right, we're all tied
up one apiece story number what is this? Number four?
My sources say that the Bears wide receiver David Moore

(37:27):
got arrested over the weekend on drug a weapon charges.
That's about the story here. The story is that now
marks the sixth different Chicago Bears players to get arrested
in this offseason alone. He from a source is good. No,
they'ren't that good. I think that's true. You sit on
a throne. Up only three, only three, only three, not six? Three?

(37:54):
Six is the same after after after two, it's it's
all the same, all right, last one very quickly, but
we out of time. We aut of time. Time, he
was out of time. He was my laptop just crashing
time down. Why are you bound down from? He said,

(38:15):
he's got a background role for me in the next
three times bigger than you. Come on, You're not letting
you intimidate you like that, Yes, just listen to the music.
Man you know told me the reason not the NFL,
because my choice was to be too short. He said,
that's everybody's choice, and I was too short. He from,
I called Rob g Husky. That's not that's a compliment. Okay.

(38:38):
He takes it the wrong way. It means brawny me
