Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thanks for listening to The Odd Couple podcasts. Be sure
to catch us live every weekday from seven pm to
ten pm Eastern four to seven pm Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio. Find your local station for The Odd Couple
at Foxsports Radio dot com, or stream us live every
day on the iHeartRadio app by searching FSR.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
It is the Odd Couple. I'm Chris, He's Rod.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
We are live from the tirerack dot Com studios. Tyreg
dot com will help you get there. They've got an
unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free row hazard protection, and
more than ten thousand recommended installers. Tirereg dot Com is
the way tire buying should be, and this right here,
The Odd Couple is the way sports talk radio should be.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Our number two. At the bottom of the hour.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Tyler Dragon USA today NFL reporter will join us to
talk about the NFL as which gets underw Thursday with
the Baltimore Ravens at the Kansas City Chiefs rematch it
that AFC title game. So be good to talk to Tyler.
But we announced earlier in the show that there are

(01:15):
almost I guess two weeks left of shows. Ten shows left.
Yes of this iteration of the Eye couple. I mean
Rob has done the eye couple like five times.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
No, I have not twice.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
This was your third when I think this is your
third eye.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Second second, but you need it locally in Detroit. But
but not for six years and not with the success
that we've had here. Yes, I mean, let's not and
we're not just trying to pat ourselves on the back.
But Chris, you know I mentioned it earlier. We know
we had an impact on the station, on the network,

(01:55):
and and with people who who we know, and people
we know in the industry like who listen? You know,
like nobody's faking that we don't have big time people
are their own TV and radio shows calling us and
telling us how much they enjoy our show just to
do it, you know that?

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yep, yep, and uh.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
And I think one of the things that hopefully people
appreciated about the show, right, we were fair. You know,
we would you know, talk about race and other issues,
hot button issues, and we obviously would come from an
African American perspective, but I don't think anybody would say

(02:36):
we were unfair and anybody.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Talk and then we we also.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
When we thought Caitlyn Clark was getting a bad rap
in certain you know, from certain people. We didn't we
we I don't want to say sided with her that
we didn't think her race was the reason she was
a good basketball Like like Zude is a good basketball player.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Let's put it that way. She can just play and
she's proving it now in the WNBA.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
But so I just think that callers, even if they
disagree with us, Rob will have to say we're fair.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Yeah, call it down the line.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
We got eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. We
want to take more calls.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Yeah, big, you want to call in, and way want
to call in. But we do have Steve from South Florida.
He's he's on the line.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Steve. How you doing, buddy?

Speaker 5 (03:32):
What's up?

Speaker 6 (03:32):
Guys?

Speaker 7 (03:32):
I got props for both of you. I'm gonna start
with the King first, King, Chris, I'm.

Speaker 8 (03:35):
Gonna take you back to the year.

Speaker 7 (03:37):
Two thousand and eight at the NBA Draft Madison Square
Garden at the Theater, Derrick Rose went pick number one.
I was a wide eyed college kid trying to get
a job. No give me ten minute here, you give
me ten minutes your time. You gave me advice, man,
and you gave me the call that I needed to
blow up and have a great career.

Speaker 9 (03:52):
Now, props to you.

Speaker 8 (03:53):
Rob.

Speaker 7 (03:54):
The year's twenty nineteen. I called it in trash Talk Tuesday.
We made a bet on the air. I took the Patriot,
you took the Rams. I'm still waiting for the shuckles.

Speaker 8 (04:02):
Brother, I got you.

Speaker 7 (04:05):
If you don't, you don't remember, I still got the
audio from it.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
I got you.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
We'll make sure, we'll make sure we take care of you.
That's okay, Steven, South Florida, appreciate.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
For the call.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yes eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox if you
want to call in and share your thoughts on the eye.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
Couple, Yes and kut we're doing today. We have a
mystery caller here.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Oh speak, you're on the line.

Speaker 6 (04:31):
Well, I think I don't know if this is true.

Speaker 9 (04:35):
I think.

Speaker 6 (04:38):
Only one person that can say that he was a
co host with both of you. Is that true?

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah? What U if Brian know? Is that another way?
Maybe Brian no, tryan know, But but you are willing?

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Will it broke us radio?

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Absolutely? Mark, It's great to hear from you, man, Thanks
for calling in.

Speaker 6 (04:59):
Wasn't gonna mis opportunity because from like bottom of my heart,
I wanted to say this. I was driving around whatever
it was half hour ago and Don and so I'm
listening to this, and I'm remembering six years ago when
the thought of the two of you doing a daily

(05:21):
show was being sort of introduced and talked about within
the company. And I got on the phone with Don
because I hadn't started my show here in San Francisco yet,
and I got on the phone with Don, and I
obviously know both of you so well, and I'm like, Don,
like making a three person show like I can with

(05:46):
both of these guys, and both of them are real opinionated,
but they haven't let a show yet. Let me be
that guy. And Don straight shooter as he always is,
He's like, Mark, they can do it without you. He
was absolutely right. So I'm so glad that they did

(06:08):
it the way they did it, and that you guys
did it the way you did it, and you deserve
everything that everybody's saying to both of you today.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Wow, Thank thank you.

Speaker 6 (06:18):
Mark.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
It would have first of all, it would have been
a great trio.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
There's no doubt about that, because you know, I mean,
you know, we've talked about it before. We had a
great time to gather you and I when we did
the show.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Great chemistry.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Uh, it was just a lot of fun, and I
know it was the same with you and Rob. So
we're happy, Man for all your success up in San Francisco.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
And Man, thanks for calling in on this day, brother.

Speaker 6 (06:48):
And one more thing, one more thing, like again, I
know radio hearts are breaking all over the country, but
at the same time, I'm kind of excited because Chris, now,
you can't say they know to me when I call
you that.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
You're right about that. I got the time now, man,
So anytime you need me, I'm on.

Speaker 6 (07:10):
For sure.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
All right, Thank you, Mark, We appreciate appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
I know we got more callers, Chris who want to
chime in on you.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
We'll get to those.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
That's nice of Mark Willard to call because, uh, yeah,
were both broken with Mark when we first got the Fox.
I think I did a show with him on Saturday
and you did one with on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
All right, yep, yep. And we worked with Brian Know
as well.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
That was my first show here at Fox Sports Radio
was with Brian no.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Oh, So you did Brian Know first on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Yep, I did him. It was Saturdays.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Oh, Saturday, Saturdays, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
And then I did start doing it with Mark Willard.
I don't remember if that was a Saturday or a Sunday.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
I think it was Sunday because I was Saturday, okay,
and you.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Were with Brian no too, though.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
I was with Willard first Membran though, Okay, so we
may have switched.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah, we may have just guys switched.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
But yes, it is a good day man to reminisce
and about some of our great fun times we had together.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
You mentioned it just.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
I mean when we were in studio together. Shows a
little different now, right, but we're in studio together, it
was really you're really able to do. That's when we
had some of our really funny things that we did,
singing the Jeffersons together and you're throwing money up and
you're making it rain, and you know, I kept about
fifty dollars.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
I watched the video tape of slipping dollars into your pocket.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
But I will say this too, and the odd couple.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
You know, we talked about the chemistry that Chris and
I both have, but the supporting cast I don't think
people really understand when you do a show, how important
like Alex with the drops him knowing this show, Mary
learning her way around our show now and others, how
important rob G is. Rob G really has Chris, he

(09:11):
has He has a button for both of us. He
just knows what we like right and and what what
moves us and what we're more passionate about.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
And he's real good at that. If something, if.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
Luke warm on something, he'll just want to move on
and not do it. And I think that's why the
show resonates.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
Yep, no no doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
And and we you know we're not the only show,
but every show doesn't do it. We got everybody involved,
you know, we we rob G is a regular part
of the show. People know him on the air, DJ
Alex Tight Shirt, even Mary Mary, they're.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Jealous of her introduction all.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
The other people in this at the sports radio because
she has an awesome an opening and and uh, everybody
loves it. And Elijah does the social media stuff for us.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
He's great.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
And we've had these lunches and we have these Christmas
get togethers and it really is a team. And Chris
and I can't take full responsibility for the show.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
We just can't.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
It's just a lie, all right.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
If you want to weigh in eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven, seven nine nine six sixty

the bottom of this hour in about.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Twelve minutes or so. But until then, you.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Have a chance to weigh in on our announcement that
I will be leaving the show in two weeks, and
we're just kind of celebrating the show on what has become.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
Celebrating I mean the show definitely, but celebrating you and you,
you know, moving on and spending more time with the
family and you know TV show first things first, got
out of the half an hour.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
So you got work to do there and focus there.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
And we'll miss you, you know, and we're proud of
the last six plus years and what we've been able
to do. So that's why today's a special day to celebrate,
because Chris, you got to celebrate.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
The wins Man. Me, we won, me and you. We won.
I don't care what anybody says.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
We want Yeah, now we did, we did. It was terrific.

Speaker 6 (12:25):
Man.

Speaker 1 (12:25):

we go back counter to the normal show and then
on that last yeah yeah.

Speaker 12 (12:53):

time where I'm at when you guys come on, it
was always looking you up. I appreciate you making making
me think being fair, even though I don't always agree
with you guys. That's okay, Yeah, that's what That's what
makes the world go around.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
And if you agree with everything we said, you probably
wouldn't listen, you know what I mean after a while.

Speaker 12 (13:18):
Yeah, yeah, and you know what, I'm all I can
hear and you know all Rob says and Chris, you're
a good man. I just wanted to. I just want to.
I just want to express that and appreciate you guys
a lot.

Speaker 8 (15:45):
Oh man, it's a sad day. Sad day, well next Friday,
every Saturday, but this is a sad day. But no
real though, Chris Man, I never told you this, but
you know you helped me along with my faith too,
because I'm like some touched on it. I remember when
you did what you did on ESTM and I'm thinking, like, man,
that's wrong. Man right there, I'm like, I respect that,
you know, thank you, thank you. You're like, I'm not

(16:05):
gonna speak on that. I speak about football.

Speaker 6 (16:07):
I ain't gona.

Speaker 8 (16:07):
Speak on that. And that made me look at like,
you know, I need to be more outspoken with my face.
You know you didn't wear it on your swezeward on
your heart. I remember too, you know, and ever since
that day, I follow Christmas, so I wrote her for Christmas.
When you went the first take, I mean my first take.
First things first, and I thought you should take a
curter spot because I'm like, it's simple, nicky, Chris, keep
the name. But you know I was like, you left,

(16:29):
I left, I quit watching it.

Speaker 6 (16:30):
You came back.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
So thank you, thank you. I appreciate that.

Speaker 8 (16:37):
And not just that, but I got to give you
a kudos for not let Rob get fired all over
these years.

Speaker 6 (16:42):
Because you.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Over you over under was three years.

Speaker 8 (16:51):
Because for lack of a better word, we know Rob
got perverted since the humor.

Speaker 6 (16:55):
But that's my dude, But you wrote me for it
to get Thank you.

Speaker 8 (17:01):
I wish your chests on anything you do and whatever
you do, I'll follow you that too, brother.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
So much, Thank you, d thanks a lot, man, I
appreciate that.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
That's right, Chris, you know you who would have thought
that we would we would have to run together without
me getting whacked before?

Speaker 2 (17:14):
Right? Yeah, I mean, thank God for that delay except
his second delay.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Matt in Tucson, you're the couple of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
What's up?

Speaker 14 (17:26):
Oh yeah, I heard what you said about the play.
But the first thing I gotta say right now, fair
down Arizona.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
Is what was.

Speaker 14 (17:36):
Arizona?

Speaker 3 (17:37):
They're down Arizona?

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Okay, okay, Yeah.

Speaker 14 (17:43):
The first time I heard the Guys show, I was
pulling into a post office the Spreefield organ It was
raining and hearing about these dudes like one guy went
to college.

Speaker 8 (17:55):
At the big City.

Speaker 14 (18:01):
Are they gonna get the man? I didn't know that
that was like the beginning of your show, Like right there,
it's like twenty eighteen.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
Right, yeah, yes, yes, yes, absolutely sense of then.

Speaker 14 (18:14):
I remember that day I was driving at nineteen ninety
four four Ranger and coming wow and driving down twenty
second Street to baby.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Matt.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
Matt, we appreciate you for real. Thanks so much and
hopefully you'll continue to listen. When we got uh yeah,
when we get a replacement, you know what I mean, Chris,
someone who you know and no one will replace him.
Be a reliever, no, no doubt about it. I agree
with that, Matt. It's hard to replace it. It's hard

(18:51):
to replace chemistry.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
Chris's just right.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
And it's interesting, Rob you think about like we think
about our intro and uh, you know, we're used to it.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
We probab.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
They don't even think much about it when it plays.
But it's really a it's a it says it all
about us, you know what I mean, It really does.
It's a great and that was your idea for the
most part, and yeah, you did. You hit a home
run with that.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
It really does kind of say who we both are
and it fits with the show. And it really wasn't
even Chris. I think when I pitched this to you,
the idea of the odd couple, you didn't think it
was like, you didn't flinch because it's natural. It's not
like we were faking it, like Rob, you do this
and Chris you act like that?

Speaker 3 (19:33):
Yeah, you know what I mean? Like that would have
been phony. We'd have never been able to play that
pull that off.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
No, it was a perfect name, man, perfect for the show.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Even though it was a real whatever.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
Hey, Adam and Seattle your the eye couple, Chris won't
let it go Adam Seattle.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
What's up, buddy?

Speaker 15 (19:54):
Hey y'all, how's it going good? How are you you
doing well?

Speaker 11 (19:58):
Man?

Speaker 15 (19:58):
Chris is gonna miss you, but I just got to
I've been the first time, long time. I've been listening
for six years, never had a chance of calling until now. Wow, Chris,
I gotta say, man, I always related to you because
my wife, when she was in med school, I had
to commute from Austin to Dallas, so I had three
hours every day y'all just listening to y'all for the
last few years. So Wow, I'm gonna miss you. Yeah,

(20:22):
just bo man, I guess I gotta continue listening to Rob.
Rob blocked me on Twitter one.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
Time, honored. That's what you know.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
I got my block Twitter blocking song.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
You should be happy.

Speaker 9 (20:33):
I know, I know.

Speaker 8 (20:37):
Block.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
If I want to.

Speaker 15 (20:40):
Know, I'll be at work. I'll be at work coming
that song, man, So it's all good. But uh, I
just wanted to say, Man, I'm gonna continue to listen
to you, Chris and to miss you man Rob much love,
even though we don't always agree, but I'll continue listening, man, but.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Appreciate thank you, thanks a lot, Man for calling in.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Really appreciate it. And uh, I know that couple Rob
going on. It's gonna be great. Whoever they it'll be choose,
but yeah, but it'll it'll be good because I know
you know you'll you'll do your thing.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
And I know they'll pick a good guy to fit
with you.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
So all right, we got Tyler Dragon USA today, NFL
Reporter coming up, but eight seven, seven ninety nine on
Fox if you want to weigh in. We'll still be
taking calls after that. But first here Steve the Seger
with the update.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
Steve, guys, you're not going anywhere, are.

Speaker 16 (21:30):
You, that's the theory. No, not important enough to go
anywhere else. We're good and and just see for people.
You know, this is radio. People don't always get to
hear the whole hour. It's he's still here this week.
I've still seen him on the schedule this week. He's
still it's still in next week.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
And next week, right, the thirteenth is the last day.
But Steve, you know, like.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
Today and this was told Chris, and it's not over
It's not overkilled because everybody doesn't listen to the whole
three hours of here. It's like the different chunks, So
they might be just twenty minutes an hour number two
or fifteen minutes an hour number three. People in cars, Yeah,
they need to know what's going on and they need

(22:10):
to be able to share in it. So that's why
we were talking about this today.

Speaker 16 (22:14):
And I'm sure you'll bring it up in the next
two weeks because it's a holiday. Maybe nobody's coming home
from work that usually would have heard you in the
car today, that type of thing. We do have a
college football game going on and didn't think I'd be
saying this, but it's complete domination by Boston College at
Florida State in the first half so far. It's about
nine minutes to go in the second quarter. The BC

(22:35):
Eagles lead fourteen to nothing at Florida State FSU with.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
What a minutees Doug Flutie throwing a couple of touchdowns.

Speaker 16 (22:41):
No, they would need a last second long bomb. They're
not going to need that. The way thicks are going
right now. Florida State's offense two three and outs and
that's it. DJ way along the lay two of six
passing and five yards through the air. The Natives are
restless in the stands, I mean not the seminoles on
the field. Remember it was pre season number ten ranking

(23:02):
for Florida State this year and then they lost the
opener in Dublin on a last second field goal by
Georgia Tech. The new rankings come out tomorrow. The way
things are going, I'm not looking for Florida State in
the top twenty five. Still got a ways to go,
but what an awful first half of the home team
so far. Great matchup this Saturday on Fox TV Texas
at Michigan noon Eastern Time. By the way, Friday night

(23:24):
on FS one, Duke at Northwestern. I don't know if
you saw a Northwestern's home game last weekend. They're playing
in a temporary stadium on campus. The next couple of
years they'll be hosting Duke in that On Friday Night.
Bengals wide receiver Jamar Chase misspractice again, wanting a new contract.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
Back to you all, right, Thank you, Steve.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
It's the I Couple, Chris Brusar, Rob Parker. We are
live from the tire rack dot Com studios.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
We want to let you know this.

Speaker 1 (23:49):

Couple wherever you get your podcasts, and you will see
today's show posted right after we get off the air.

(24:11):
Our next guest covers the NFL for USA Today. We
welcome in friend of the show, Tyler Dragon.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
Tyler, how are you, Tyler?

Speaker 5 (24:21):
I'm doing good and congratulations Chris. I heard the announcement
about your last time with the Odd Couple, so congratulations.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Thank you man. I appreciate that. I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
We've just been reminiscing with the callers about the show today,
so thank you for those kind of words.

Speaker 6 (24:39):
Man.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Let's get to some business though. The team you're very
familiar with covering them.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
The Bengals and Jamar Chase like, I still don't think
but I've never thought he would sit out the year.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
It just doesn't seem to benefit guys to do that
because of the way the rules are. So where do
you think this thing is? Heady? He's obviously trying to
make a statement before the season starts.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Yeah, you know, I'm hearing that the Bengals and Jamar
Chase have kind of renegotiated each other with contract extension talks.
He is still sitting out practice and washing in street clothes,
but I am hearing that there have been some positive
discussions back and forth, but there is no deal that's

(25:26):
imminent thus far. And so the Bengals they want to
get things done expeditiously, considering the season is just around
the corner. But the positive news is they pretty much
have a layup in week one against the New England
Patriots with a Dirneyman quarterback, and they're at home and
with the rebuild a versus rebuilding team. However, that following

(25:50):
week they play the Kansas City Chiefs, so they surely
want to get Jamar Chase in the building and up
to speed before then. But I hearing that there are
still negotiating contract and extension talks, but no deals eminent
thus far.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
If they don't get to just say they don't get
a deal done before the season starts, or even in
the first couple of weeks of the season.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
I mean, do you think he would play on his
current contract or would he sit out?

Speaker 5 (26:22):
I do think he will play because he really doesn't
have that much leverage. He still has two years remaining
on his deal. I get why he set out you know,
training camp and the preseason, but at the end of
the day, he's still under contract, not even for one year,
but for two years, so he doesn't have that much leverage. However,

(26:44):
he does know that the Bengals desperately need him, and
they pretty much laid their chips out on the table
because they said they're not going to pay T Higgins
long term. And T Higgins is on a one year
franchise tag deal and so he's going to be one
year and out of Cincinnati, and so they know that.

(27:04):
Chase the side knows that the Bengals won him in
Cincinnati long term, so he has leverage there, but he's
still under contract for two more seasons.

Speaker 4 (27:14):
Hey, Tyler, is there any chance anything happens with Dak
Prescott and the Cowboys or no?

Speaker 3 (27:18):
This is going to be a play it out season
or prove it season for DA I feel like.

Speaker 5 (27:24):
He's going to have to play it out this season.
I don't foresee him finding a long term extension before
the start of the regular season, and that's I guess
bad news for both both sides really, But the Cowboys
have really put themselves in this position by not getting
a deal done with Prescott before the price tag went

(27:47):
up for NFL quarterbacks Now, I mean quarterbacks making fifty
million plus a year if you're Dak Prescott's caliber of quarterbacks.
So the price tag is just going up and up
and up for the quarterback position. So the Cowboys they
are going to have to figure out what price they're
comfortable with, and not only him, but then they have

(28:07):
to worry about Michael Parkins, who's probably going to end
up being high State to test a player in history
when they get his deal done as well.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
I would love to.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Get to and I do have a few questions about
actual football on the field, but there are so many
of these contract situations going on. So the last one
I want to ask you about is Trent Williams with
the Niners. I have to believe after they signed Brandon
Ayyuk to keep him there in San Francisco long term.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
I mean, they're clearly all in.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
They really need to win the Super Bowl this year,
so they have to do whatever it takes to get
Trent Williams playing in Week one, I would think, is
that how you look.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
At it too?

Speaker 5 (28:51):
Yeah? I can make the case that Trent Williams is
the most important offensive player on the forty nine Ers.
He's the best left tackle in football. They run to
his side all the time with Christian McCaffrey out of
boot legs, run play stretch plays all the time to
the left side behind Brent Williams. So they really do

(29:12):
need to get a deal done with it, and he
will sit out games. I don't think he has any
problem with sitting out regular season games to get the
type of deal that he deserves and wants. So if
I'm the forty nine Ers, I would try to get
a deal done with him because they aren't Super Bowl
contenders without Trent Williams, because he is that important not

(29:34):
only to their team, but certainly to their all fens.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
I don't understand. I mean I really don't.

Speaker 4 (29:40):
Even when Cede Lamb got his deal or whatever, Like,
why is it just the same old, same old drag
it all the way out.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
You're gonna wind up paying the guy.

Speaker 4 (29:51):
Why does this continue to happen when most of the
time Brandon I you to hold, they still wind up
paying them.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
What is the hold up? Why don't they pay people
who produce? I don't understand that in the NFL, I.

Speaker 5 (30:04):
Mean, both parties want wanted their way, and it's a
long negotiating process that always happens, and it's a it's
a giver or take and some side don't want to give,
some side don't want to take, and it just goes
back and forth until both sides get comfortable whether they're
doing we were. It's not going to end this all season.
There's gonna be more contract disuse and more players. No,

(30:27):
I know, it just seems like it's over again. What's
gonna happen?

Speaker 4 (30:31):
It doesn't make sense, like you know it's coming up
and you let the guy miss all the training camp
or not.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
I just don't I just don't get it.

Speaker 4 (30:38):
If you're going to sign the guy, you know what
I mean, Like, if you're going to sign him, there's
the idea that hey, hey, let me ask.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
You this, Chris, we never got to talk about this
and Chris, did.

Speaker 4 (30:47):
You ever see the video of the Patrick Mahomes doll
that the Raiders had?

Speaker 3 (30:53):
Did you ever see that.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
The Patrick Mahomes? Oh yeah, the Kermit the Frog the Yeah?
Did you Yeah?

Speaker 6 (30:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (31:00):
Did you see it too, Tyler?

Speaker 7 (31:02):
Or no?

Speaker 5 (31:03):
No, I didn't see that?

Speaker 3 (31:04):
Okay of Chris?

Speaker 6 (31:05):
What did you?

Speaker 2 (31:07):
It's like a it's like a Kermit the.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Frog doll with pas or whatever.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
But I just thought, wow, you know a guy just
won back to back Super Bowls, that that's the guy
you want to pick on as the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
I just thought it was funny.

Speaker 5 (31:23):
Yeah, Patrick Mahons will be the last guy I will
be picking right if I'm the Raiders. He has what
a forty record version you're saying, right, he's the last guy.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Well, speaking to Mahomes and the Chiefs, what do you
think about their chances of three peating? I mean, we
know no super no team in the Super Bowl era
has won three straight Super Bowls, and so what do
you think of their chances of doing it?

Speaker 2 (31:52):
I mean they look great on paper.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
They look better actually, I think than last year, so
you would think they got a good chance.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
But there's a reason nobody's ever done it.

Speaker 5 (32:03):
Yeah, so I think you have to take the field overall,
but you certainly do have to like the chief Chances mean,
you're right, they pretty much look better on paper. You
look at their offense. They have a deep threat now
and xavier' Worthy and once Hollywood Brown comes back, so
they have a deep threat. They can take the top

(32:25):
off the defense. You like their running game with Prochecto.
Their offensive line should once again be stout, and their defense,
led by Chris Jones, should once again be really good.
So I think teams like the Ravens, teams like the Bengals,
teams like the Texans, they will have something to say
about it, especially the Ravens. In my opinion, that's going

(32:47):
to be a really good NFL opener on Thursday night,
especially with Derrick Henry. That's probably the team I will
keep my eye out on as the biggest contender in
the AFC along with the Chiefs. Man, the Chiefs look
as good as anybody, especially to go for that three P.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
How do you think if the Chiefs get the three
P and obviously Mahomes would lead the way, does that
affect the goat conversation in your mind right now? Like
it will give it would only give Mahomes four only right,
four super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
Rings, but a three p something that's never been done.
You know, I do think there will.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
Be some people if it happens that already will put
him ahead of Brady.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
What do you think about it?

Speaker 5 (33:35):
So I'll say this, if I got to pick any
quarterback in NFL history to draft number one overall, I
will pick Patrick Mahomes way before Brady. Brady might be
my third pick and I would be second.

Speaker 11 (33:50):
Thing.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
I already do think Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback
I've ever seen. He's definitely more athletic than Brady, has
a better arm than Brady.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Joe Montana four and on the Super Bowl eleven no
picks as some of the highest quarterback Wait, he's look
at Patrick mahomes quarter super Bowl numbers did not that great.

Speaker 5 (34:11):
Now shocked that. I will say that Brady has the
best resume of all time, especially for an NFL quarterback.
But if I'm going to go straight off of steel
and tangible athletic ability, arm strength, and ability to make
all script plays, I'm pitching picking Patrick Mahomes over any

(34:31):
quarterback in NFL history. He's the best quarterback I've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
All Right, I actually agree with you. I do agree
with you.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
I still think Brady's the goat right now, but I
agree mahomes the best we've ever seen, or I've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Rob's got Joe Montana.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
But Tyler, thank you. We appreciate your time. Brother, enjoyed
the season. We'll get you on at another time.

Speaker 5 (34:52):
Oh yeah, most definitely, thanks again for having me on.

taking calls today from all our listeners who have been
so great for the show the past six years.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
We love all of y'all, so we're letting you share
your thoughts today eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
I know we have someone on the line, Rob.

Speaker 3 (36:15):
Right now, we got a mystery caller from mister Chris Brusond.
Mystery caller, who are you well?

Speaker 17 (36:22):
You look to wish you guys a happy heavy metal
Monday over and here.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
Huh, thank you. This is perfect.

Speaker 17 (36:28):
I could a better day to pop on and wish
you the best going forward here Chris, Bruce.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
Ryan, No, don't know.

Speaker 17 (36:37):
Yes, heavy metal Monday, that man, it's man, Chris. But
I know you're off the bigger and better things with
TV and that's awesome, so thank you.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
Brian.

Speaker 6 (36:47):
Man.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Look, you were my first radio partner here on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 14 (36:53):
Man.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
We used to do Saturday shows together. It was terrific.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
I still remember the first time we met, right remember
we read it that restaurant.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Near the beach. I don't know where it was in
Santa Monic or wherever it was. But we met and
then we started doing the show. Man that's right crosses.

Speaker 17 (37:10):
Scott Shapiro was like, I think you guys should meet.
So we met, grabbed breakfast. I don't know where werekfast,
and we had vertical French toast, the first time in
my life French toast went toward the sky. But Rob,
I know the real reason why Chris is leaving the
radio show.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Oh go ahead, it's gonna have something to do with me.
I guess right, this is.

Speaker 17 (37:30):
This is the real reason.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
Check this out, man, I got money galore. That's why
I do not remember saying that the Wonders of AI.
I can't believe that that money galore.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
I remember, I remember James my character something galore, but
it wasn't money.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
I bet that I was saying. I'm just guessing I
would say that in reference to a player. He was
probably speaking in his voice.

Speaker 17 (38:04):
Right, talking about Patrick Mahomes and leaving some money on
the tape. Maybe, But I like to think of it
as you leaving for the TV money. But Chris, I do, Man,
I wish you the best. I do appreciate after we
did our shows together and you moved on to the
Odd Couple. I do appreciate the two fill in shows

(38:24):
I got to do with you over a six year period.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
You know, if you break it down.

Speaker 17 (38:30):
Pray ye knocked it out of the park though, Brian, Yeah,
I appreciate it. That's maybe like a fill in segment
per year, Chris, So I appreciate that. Look it out,
look it out. But no, I know you're gonna kill it,
and I wish you the best, man for sure.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
Always thank you, man. I appreciate you calling in too.
That's the great. Yes, yes, we both worked with him.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
It was I mean, look, this is obviously the pinnacle
the Eye couple, but we both had great times working
with Brian No and Mark Willard.

Speaker 2 (39:00):
Those were some fantastic times. So it's just Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
We got the great lineup here, and even when I
was out, You've had people fill in you were out.
I had people fill in Martin Wis's VJ. Husky from
Salam Sean King, so many there's so many time.

Speaker 4 (39:17):
People here, no doubt, and we're fortunate Chris, honestly and
We're not just brown nosing or whatever. We work at
a great place with a lot of good people, a
lot of guys who do good shows on the network
along with us, Chris, And that's the part. Radio is
different television television, and because it's so many hours and

(39:40):
there's a lot of you know, it's unscripted, and you
gotta be on your p's and q's, and it's just
it's a different medium. And I'm not saying you're reading
a teleprompt on television, but you know what I mean.
It's just a little different and you have more time
to flush things out.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
So we were able to do that.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
We were able to do that and have fun with
the show. Chris and I.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
We had a real plan, fun and informative. We said
to ourselves, Chris and you could back me up. We're
not going to talk about the same four or five
topics every day and do some different stuff, and we're
gonna get callers involved, listeners involved.

Speaker 3 (40:14):
That's what we said.

Speaker 2 (40:16):
Yeah, and that is one of the differences of TV nowadays.

Speaker 1 (40:19):
You know a lot of times you do hit similar topics,
but radio, we've hit all types of things. And as
you said, we're one of the few national shows that
has had, you know, regularly has callers. Most don't, not
all necessarily, but most don't. And we're one of the

(40:40):
few that's done that. And that's that's really that has
enhanced the show. There's no question about it, no question
about it.

Speaker 3 (40:47):
We want to hear from them.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
We do, yep, absolutely, and so we'll take more calls
next hour as we kind of wrap up this.

Speaker 4 (40:58):
So, Chris, did you your wife do a happy dance?
Is she doing a happy she's gonna have He's.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
Excited because we I mean, that's the thing like I work,
you know, I do the TV show in New York,
and she'll be able to come in and you know,
we can hang out, have dinner, go to the shows,
Broadway shows.

Speaker 2 (41:16):
I wouldn't. I ain't grow up into.

Speaker 1 (41:17):
Broadway shows, but she, you know, she's from New York City,
so she got me into those and I enjoyed. So
we'll be able to check out some of those. I'll
be going to more Nixon Nets games too, you know.
So all right, we got an hour left, y'all know
what to do?
