Coming up is it.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Kobe Price Kobe Price felt a little different. That's what
threw me off. Lakers reporter for the SoCal News Group
and host of Lakers Inside a Show or Bleacher Reports.
So we'll catch up with Kobe Price as well in
about twenty eight minutes. I know you and Rob g
(01:50):
were all hyped about Cooper Flag's day butt.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
And that.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Bronnie was playing, and they played it all. But I'm
gonna tell you this.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
What you gonna tell me, because first of all, mister reporter,
can he be factual?
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Why was I hyped? I was hyped. I was telling
you that I'm gonna tell you this.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
I'm waving the white flag on Cooper Flag after that
debacle last night.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Talk about the worst debut for this guy.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Was hyped up five for twenty one and you were
trying to bump the bronnioh.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
We wonted.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
He were Bronni his second year one for six for three,
he only had eight points. You want to talk about
a terrible debut, am I saying he can't play and
he's gonna be a bus no, But you couldn't have
a worst debut and he had that nice dunk early
on in the game.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
I watched the game this morning on NBA TV. It
was awful. People paid top dollar to watch that was
he nerve.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
What the And you know what the worst part about
it is Rob g Kelvin. He ain't even playing against
gods gonna be in the league. These are guys who
just got the jersey as a sylvenir and they got
a large dark coca and a hot dog for participating.
They're not gonna be in the league. Seventy five percent
(03:22):
of those guys, eighty percent of those guys.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
And he couldn't get a shot off. He couldn't.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
They made him uncomfortable and then they're gonna harp on
to play at the end of the game.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
That's what tells you about Cooper Flag.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
You know, the defensive play and then he gave the
assist for the game winning basket.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Five for twenty one.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
I needed something better than that. I didn't need forty points.
I needed a better debut than that from this guy
that they wanted to put in the same sentence as
Larry Bird. He wasn't even Christian Lader last night, Let
lone Larry Bird. I dare anybody who's an NBA fan
(04:09):
who calls up this radio show and tells me they
saw something.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Oh my god, Cooper, flag's gonna be something with the death.
You didn't see it last night.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
I know he's eighteen, he played major college basketball. Everybody's
been singing his praises. Oh five for twenty one. If
you take away the dunk, that means he made four baskets. Really,
it's never been easy to score in the NBA ever.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Calvin could score a couple of buckets. I can get
you six and three. You could do that. You could
do what.
Speaker 5 (04:47):
Lebron did one for six from the three point line,
and he won. Bablu mam l You already know, Alex,
I'm waving a white flag on that debut and all
the bally who made about it.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
It was as.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Disappointing and milk toase and non dramatic as I've seen
anything it was.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
It just didn't move me.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Not being so dramatic, which is thought was gonna be
Game seven of the NBA Finals. Stop it an eighteen
year old going up against what's browning now nineteen and
a half. Both of them one never played any kind
of NBA game, the other one everybody ever said shouldn't
even be in the NBA and you thought you were
looking at nineteen eighty six Celtics Lakers.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Stop fit.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
I'm not dealing with you right now. Now, let me
tell you what it is. I put no stock. If
you'd had twenty two points or two points in a
especially your first summer league game.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
You're full of it.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
You like the NBA, you know why, because that he
put up a forty piece.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Don't tell me. People wouldn't have been random people.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
You are right, I can't g if he had forty
points last night, what would have been Sports Center? Yes,
oh my god, yes, right against bomb, right against what right?
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Right? Gues might right or wrong? Guess what this is called?
The couple Rod Parker and Kevin Washington, not ESPN. Now
let me get back to what I was saying. I
put no stock.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
You know why, sometime I'm gonna go to somebody who's independent,
who's not on the payroll.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
I know you used to work there, because.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
First of all, if I'm on the payroll, y'all, I
need some more checks because I got some bills that
need to be paying. Now, no stock in this, because
we've seen guys come out and tear it up. Answer
your point. Oh my gosh, this person is about to
be the best ever. And let me railed you off
a couple of things. You know who looked amazing. Kyle
Kuzman looked like he was gonna be a perennial All
(06:32):
Star if he went off the Summer League his first
go round. Markl Foltz. That's why he's the number one pick.
He look amazing. Ben Simmons, who Cooper Flag looked like?
Speaker 2 (06:40):
To me, Ben.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Simmons is the new Lebron if you went off the
Summer League, we ain't seen two or the three since.
You know who looked horrible. Steph Curry looked lost out there? Well,
I think he did all right. Dereck Rose looked lost
out there. I think he did all right. So down,
don't put too much stock either way in this. So
Cooper Flag, he was out there, he was five or
twenty one, missed some shots. Now here's what I do
(07:04):
give him credit for. I give him an E for effort.
And that that's what I say. That is because the
same thing I said yesterday. The one thing I can
can I can say I know going into his NBA career,
I can count on he is athletic. You saw the
one Donkey got filed on the miss. I mean, my gosh,
he tried to jump for the free throw line on somebody.
So I knew the elite athleticism was there. And also
(07:25):
I know he cares. He's gonna play hard from zero
minutes to forty eight minutes. He's gonna give max effort
on both sides. So I love to see that from him,
but I don't put too much stock in it. Bronni
didn't look that great. Nobody really looked that great and
had the BRONI put up eighteen on a Hey put
up eighteen against guys who aren't gonna be up there
in the league, So I don't put too much. Now,
there's some takeaways for Cooper flag and with one Cooper
(07:48):
that handle, Aint what you think that hand? He thought
he had it bringing the ball up looking nice with
the handle with Jason Kidd said he wants me to
play a little point guard. Not in this NBA. He's
got a lot of work to do with the handle. Also,
gotta get to a second move. He's used to being bigger, taller, stronger,
fast and most guys because most of the guys he
played against are gonna get jobs and insurance this next
you know fall and so he has his little turnaround move.
(08:12):
You gotta get a better moved, you gotta get some
second move, some counter moves, which eventually he'll get. So
I think he'll be fine as a player. But again,
his day butt as you put it. I didn't put
too much stock out. It was the day, but it
wasn't a debut.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
But I the only thing I said, I love his
max effort period.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
I was telling Rob g you were on vacation, that
that's the thing I know I can count for him,
his athleticism and that he's gonna play hard and care
every single play. And I love seeing that from him.
But yeah, he'll he'll be fine. He'll absolutely be fine.
I'm sure he wanted to put up twenty five and
shoot seventy percent and you know, look good because everybody's watching.
But that's not always the case. How do you bounce back? Also,
(08:47):
you acting like this magic first bird.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
I'm not saying that that's the way that they made
it is a sellout crowd. They're selling tickets, scalping for
two thousand dollars, all this stuff. Oh my god, I
gotta see Cooper flagging broddy.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
It was. It was.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
It was a wet blanket. It was a wet blanket.
There was nothing there, nothing to see. You would have
been better seeing Mike Tyson in that thing.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
On because I had to see his cheeks and I
ain't sign up for that. Mike Tyson used to punch
people in the cheeks. Now, I don't want to see you.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
You gotta you gotta admit that was what? What was that? Five?
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Five for twenty one? Not let me tell you what
he said. Five for twenty one, Come me tell you
what he said. That's a really really bad night for anybody.
And one of the baskets is a dunk. So four
for twenty let me tell you what that man did.
Two for seventeen outside the restricted area. Two for seventeen.
I'm letting it fly like they did. And that well,
what along came? Poly Let it rain, Let it rat.
(09:48):
I mean, he didn't give a dang. He emptied the Clip.
The Clips dropped the new album today. He was actingly
he was the third member of the Clips.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
He emptied the Clips, But uh yeah, he'll be fine.
Absolutely love his aggression that I love he taking it
to her. He tried to dunk.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
I'm just saying, I get it.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
What the script if I'm the NBA, Yeah, my number
one pick, he's gonna ball out, have four Alley ubes
hit a game winning three.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
You know you want to draw that up, but I'm
just saying, and you know this. They they'll down plays
off night, but if he had a big.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Night, they would not complete it, right, they.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Would not downplay it and go, oh, it's only a
summer league game against gods.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
We are not going to be in the league. NBA Lewis, Oh,
they're good against good.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Team exactly, and then they were like, oh, and Rady
thought that because people watch games a different way now
that and then they would good Team seven eighteen press.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Release, look at our ratings. I thought you didn't care
about ratings. Listen, I keep trying to tell you this.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Okay, as a member and the founding member of the
CEO of MLB, Bro, you supposed to know, Bro.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Because you need to know. Well, you act like you
don't know. You know marketing. I get it bad, it
didn't happen. If it's going good, it's the greatest thing ever. Okay,
here we go, Brodie James Cooper flag.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
I just I just like once again, I was down
on the Mike Tyson, Jake Paul was I not. I
told you it was gonna be a terrible and I
told you a lot. You know what plame I took
what Mike Tyson?
Speaker 2 (11:20):
He didn't tell us it was died before that.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
After the fighter's like, oh yeah, by the way, I
had blood clots and all that almost died.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Please? Can we have known that?
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Rob g I was on cousin Sal's podcast the other
day and he was really like serious, He's like, you
know how mad I am about what? Because he because
he actually bet money on Tyson. He told me, he said,
some people remember that, a lot of people remember that.
A lot of people one thing to be like, oh
I remember God kept saying, oh Tys is gonna knock
(11:49):
him out. I'm telling you I did you watch his workout?
You remember that on the on social media? He looks great.
He did look good and ring okay. And all I'm
gonna say is am I here saying Cooper Flag can't
play or it's gonna be a no. I'm just saying
that was a debacle. It was alter. It was terrible.
(12:13):
If you had spent money to go see that kid
wet his pants and the playing an NBA game five
for twenty like you probably would couldn't find another five
for twenty one day.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Would you admit that?
Speaker 4 (12:27):
No, I would say, look at some of these summer
legue games, you probably could, robbed G.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
You watched it is probably gonna be really good. Y
had a horrible first game, rob what'd you think? I
took it hard? You guys know this. I was ready
for the White Revolution same. I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
I anticipated. Yes, it's so bad. I've been doing this
show almost a year. That man ain't called me about nothing,
rob G.
Speaker 6 (12:49):
I felt like it was nineteen sixty two all over again.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
That man caught me, told me you can't no more.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
And I've never even he never called me off script.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
That man caught me. Geez yo, it's so real.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Rob Gi thought he was gonna take back our vote.
That's how far back he was about to take this thing.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
ROBG was. We were gonna get on there, we were
gonna get over. Next time we going to all trip.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
To We're gonna go on the back of the We
have to get on the back of the bus.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
I got to play.
Speaker 6 (13:15):
ROBG was wild yesterday. I was gonna turn in my
card to the cookouts. I'm going to barbecues only from
now on. Wow, That's how I was feeling.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
It was gonna be.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Say, Robgie, where you at? He said, sprouts? I said,
why getting raisins for the potato side? Robg Wiland.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
I was ready. I was ready for the Cooper flag.
Kaitlin Clark's dominating these two sports right here.
Speaker 4 (13:34):

the way Kobe Price, Lakers reporter of SoCal News Group,
hosts of The Lakers Insider Show and Bleacher Report. We'll
get to talk some more NBA action with him in
just a little bit. For over forty years, tire Rek
has been helping customers find the right tires for how
wood and where they drive shit Fasten free back by
(16:55):
Free Road has a protection with convenient insallation options. Like
Mobile Tire Insulation, tyreck dot com. It is the way
ty baying should be. All Right, we're talking about Tom
Cooper flag. Rob said he's waving the white flag, wave
the white flagh.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
I can't be a black flag. You know what I mean? Well,
because I'm racist? What's up with that? You just roll
with anything the man tell you, huh, that's what that's
gotta be racist.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
And then for me, I don't buy any stock. It
ain't Apple, it ain't Coke, it ain't the video anything.
I ain't buying stock with it's good or bad. Because
I've seen people have great debuts and we think they're
the next thing is that they out the league. Now,
I've seen bad ones in their hall of famers eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox Who we.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Got Kevin in Culver City. You're in the couple of
Fox Sports Radio. What's up cav.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
All the time?
Speaker 9 (17:43):
Hey, I gotta tell you real quick before I get
into this, Rob, do me a favorite. Please before the
show's over, we play your Bill Belichick song with Big Jordan.
I love that song. That's a that's a hit.
Speaker 10 (17:53):
That's a that's a hit.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
We're gonna play that song that's not our burger k
not our Burger Kings song.
Speaker 9 (17:59):
No no, that's just twenty four Caro Ma that shid
Bruno Mars right there. And then let me get into
this real quick. Rob you've becovered it, Delice high teena ship. Kelvin,
you know basketball, you played it. But I saw Cooper Flag.
Speaker 11 (18:11):
I saw a little bit of Lamorrow otum, a little bit.
Speaker 9 (18:13):
Of Scott you piping ability to handle the ball court vision. Look,
he's not Larry Bird, but it confirmed the work out.
He played great elite defense and he looked extremely at
flicked to Bronnie James. I'm proud of Bronnie. I saw
the hard work. I saw that pull up jump out
and look, I saw the Kobe and in the competitiveness
to say I got him, I got that guy.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Let me see Kevin and then you know, Kevin, you
know I.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Wanted to be with you, but you felt that Kelvin
when Bronnie said I got him, no, no, no, but you'll
appreciate this. Thanks ke keV. You know you are guy.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Why couldn't you just say you love that about him?
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Why do we have to go and I've seen the
coche can just saying that i look, I love to
see that. Bronni man up and said, Monoi mono, I
want to guard him, and I'm with you, But Kobe
nob Noby is more like it. I like that unless
you're talking about Kobe. Our guests coming up about Raoul
(19:08):
in Uh what is that?
Speaker 1 (19:11):
Rose me California Fox Sports Radio?
Speaker 2 (19:15):
What's up? Guys?
Speaker 11 (19:15):
Man? I just got to say this real quick. I mean,
I've listened to you guys a long time. First time,
thank you, and I go way back with you guys,
Man Calvin, back in the day when you used to
be you know the name from mar Sellers.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah, that bad radio show.
Speaker 11 (19:29):
Yes, go ahead, Rob, you know with Cole Pizza, Yes.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
You know that terrible TV show.
Speaker 10 (19:36):
Rob.
Speaker 11 (19:37):
I gotta tell you one thing, Man, if I ever
want to laugh, I'll have to go to YouTube and
look at clip of you when you ripped Rick Berry.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Good gree what you're saying about Rick Man.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
That's right, man, Me and me and Rick Berry had
a had a thing, That's right. I wanted Mark Willard,
who is my partner, to hang up on.
Speaker 11 (19:57):
Him, but man, Rob, I was man, listen to this
is to Rob because this guy and he's not putting
any punches. He's not you know for that. And with
that being said, Cooper Cup, said Cooper Cup, Cooper Flag, Yes,
dude is the truth. He's the truth.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
From watching that last night, that was enough. Okay, Wow, yes, sir, yes, sir.
Speaker 11 (20:20):
You know that dog. You know you got these pit
bull different ones and someone just darted and something they
don't have it? Dude has it?
Speaker 8 (20:27):
Man?
Speaker 11 (20:27):
Oh yeah? That he has to even hit that man
string and not even you know, he's just not even
a young He had that young boy straight, not even
young man strength. He's eighteen. Wait, he's about come out, Rob.
You gotta make that this guy. I thought he was
gonna be Gordy Hayward. I want to steahim go up
against you know Dallas Connect, you know Doctain Connect and
(20:50):
he just scored over Doctor Kane.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
What about all those misshots too? Come on, man, you
just see all that last night. What are you talking
about it? He had forty you would be going crazy crazy,
I know it.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
He'd be even worse than the role we appreciate.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
What about Scott in North Carolina, You're on the couple
of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
What's up, Scott?
Speaker 11 (21:12):
What's up? My guys? How you'll doing good?
Speaker 2 (21:14):
How you I'm doing good? Man?
Speaker 10 (21:17):
I gotta agree. What in the world did we watch that?
I got a points? I got a few points. First
of all, the people that call it the game keep
saying why the rookies keep playing too long? I don't
understand why they're not playing long. This is not like
you guys are taking break in the summer league. This
is the chance to show your your talent on the
(21:37):
court play. The second thing is Cooper flag. The only
time about watching him was in that next championship game,
and he missed that mid race floater of that jump shot.
I think he missed a free airball that shot quite yesterday.
Speaker 8 (21:49):
In the same game.
Speaker 10 (21:51):
And then he's playing with a bunch of the second
rounders undrafted, and he did not look like the best player.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Thank you, we should have with with the competition Scott one.
And I'm not saying he had to get ninety points,
but he didn't look like that.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
Well, I mean, if he's saying he didn't look like
a spectacular number one, I get that, but he absolutely
looked like the best player on the floor even with
those misshots.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
That's not a question.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
All right, we got on the way Kobe Price getting
ready to talk some more hoops with them in just
a little bit right now, usc Chris, What's trending.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Rob and Kelvin on a fucky flashback Friday, getting ready
to talk to Kobe Price in a little bit on
this day, rob By, the way we're looking at I
want I didn't call you out, but I was gonna
let you live. So instead of calling you, I was
just gonna say, what do you make of Chisholm being
the last pick for the home run derby?
Speaker 2 (22:49):
You like that? Yeah, I mean he's got seventeen home
runs on the season.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
Yes, he's he's You would just say he's a better
version and maybe the East Coast version of Yashio Pweek. No,
just say that. I don't know what I'm gonna get.
Sometimes it's like, why'd you do that? Why'd you keep running?
That wasn't a home run You should have outrun. But
then sometimes he might beat that was one of the
(23:14):
mess that not that iratic.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Yeah, he's not that.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
Josie Pree got a great few years, you know, to start,
he was unbelievable, to be honest.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
They want him in the All Star Game after ten games. Ridiculous.
All right, I'll just ask you, tho, why you gotta
take a shot at it? Sorry about that? All right?
That's right.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Kobe Price, Lakers reporter so CAB News Group, hosted the
Lakers Insider Show on bleacher Report Kobe Underscore Price on
X Kobe, what's up?
Speaker 2 (23:39):
What's happening to Kobe?
Speaker 8 (23:41):
On?
Speaker 9 (23:41):
How's doing?
Speaker 11 (23:42):
How you guys doing.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
We're doing good, We're doing good.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
We've been talking about is apparently so what Lebron gonna
be a cave by February?
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Is that's what's going on right now?
Speaker 4 (23:51):
What's going on with Lebron and uh not having any
real conversation with the team, not texting Andre Ayden.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Not known about the sale of the team, like all
that stuff.
Speaker 8 (24:03):
Yeah, I mean it's a it's a shift. I mean
it's a shift in many ways that we've seen happen,
you know with the Lakers. The dynamic really between the
Lakers and Lebron James since since the trade for Luca
Doctors back in February quite honestly. I mean you think
about after they trade for Luca. You know, Rob talked
(24:23):
about it publicly, you know, Luca Robs they did to
have that meeting, you know about like you know, for Luca,
what what roster you know, like what helps you roster wise?
Like what kind of BigMan do you want? And the
Lakers go after that big man. Lebron wasn't part of
his conversations, right, Like Lebron wasn't part of that equation,
and then you could I mean there are so many
(24:44):
different moments where you see this team slowly or not
even just the team, really the franchise organization prioritized Luca
and his president and his future over everything else. And
for the first time in his career, Lebron James isn't
priority number one when it comes to the organization or
franchise he plays for from player standpoint, and I think
(25:05):
that that's showing itself in several different ways over the
past few months, big and small, and.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
It should be.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
The shift makes total sense. I mean, really, you got
a guy's going to be forty one years old. I mean,
you can't be living in the past. You have to
figure it out and move forward. Uh what it just
the aiding thing is ridiculous, Like, seriously, you're gonna play
with the guy this year. You can't text the guy
and just say what's up. But then again, he did
(25:33):
talk about how incredible is going to be to play
with Lucas, So maybe Lebron saw that and wasn't happy
about it.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
He said, be like a video game. Yep.
Speaker 8 (25:41):
Yeah, I mean it's sometimes it's so tough to I mean,
because the guys, guy's on vacationer. I don't know you
would think that he would text them, but it was
one of those I don't know if it's a bad thing,
but it doesn't. It doesn't. I would think it's a
good thing that he didn't text them, But I mean
I think it was you said, I mean, this is
a mean understandable why the I mean, it's understandable why
(26:03):
the Lakers are taking the position. To add, it's also
understandable why Lebron would take the position he has. You know,
sometimes throughout you know this is about to be Lebron's
i think eighth season with the Lakers. Sometimes the partnership
between them has been a partnership, you know of abundance
and you know, one that's produced great results for both sides.
And sometimes there's been a partnership of convenience, you know,
(26:25):
Lebron capitalizing off the Lakers brand and vice versa, the Lakers,
you know, capitalizing off of what Lebron's brought to the
franchise of the toast almost eight years. So there's been
a back and forth, you know, since this partnership, since
Lebron joined the organization in twenty eighteen. But you know
it hasn't always I mean, as we can see, you know,
(26:46):
it hasn't always been sun Signed and the rainbows. There's been
back and forth since the since twenty eighteen, and you know,
now it does seem like again like Lucas twenty six.
Speaker 11 (26:56):
I don't completely on my.
Speaker 8 (26:59):
Side on agree my opinion in terms of just so
much part prioritization of the future when you have Luca,
he is twenty six, he's entering year eight. I don't
know if you can really try to have a five
to six seven year plan with Luca. You may have
to shorten that, especially in the modern NBA. But it's
understandable why they would look at this as you know,
this upcoming season tried to build the most competitive roster
(27:22):
around Luca and Lebron and then beyond that, really try
to set yourself up for building a roster, building an
organization or a franchise that maximizes what Luca brings.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Let me ask you about Brody after that dominating performance
last night over Cooper Flag, is he in a rotation
for next year?
Speaker 8 (27:43):
I would doubt it. I mean, I would imagine he
plays more than he did last season, but I doubt
he's in the Okaine day rotation from day one. Just
nine certain guys I could rattle off at least six
or seven guys without giving it much thought that'd be
ahead of him in the rotation.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
What about the Kers?
Speaker 1 (28:00):
I'm just serious, Like Lebron's not in the loop to
not talking to him. What if they leave Bronnie off
the roster and just say, like seriously, like like Lebron
would probably demand a trade at that point when you think, so, Kobe,
like if can you imagine him like like saying to Bronni,
you know what, he didn't make the roster.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
You already got a contract though, yeah, I.
Speaker 8 (28:22):
Mean he's already under contract for uh for next season.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
You can't you can't release people. You guys know that
like a dollar hour, but you can release. But you
can release people. Let's not what are you asking, can
you release? You can release him?
Speaker 8 (28:37):
Yeah, I mean they could, but I don't think, you know,
even with the the the disconnect that may be growing
between the Brown and Lakers, I don't think the the Lakers,
I mean, I don't think the organization would be I'll
just use petty enough to take out any or to
take out any frustration or not disconnects on le Bron
(28:59):
to Bronnie, and I'll take this so further.
Speaker 11 (29:01):
They're actually like.
Speaker 8 (29:04):
I know that it's easy to say this when Lebron's
on the roster, but they're actually stayings of Bronni in
the organization. Like there are people like after having him,
like being around him, having him in the organization for
the past you know, over the past year. They're actual
fans of him within the organization.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
So I don't believe when Lebron's no longer a Laker,
that Bronni will be a Laker. I will bet my
bottom dollar on that that he will not be there
longer than Lebron is there.
Speaker 8 (29:31):
I mean, I think that's a good uh yeah, I
mean that's a good bet to make. I wouldn't I
would have I wouldn't disagree with that.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
I would challenge that the timelines are going to line
up perfect, right like Bron's gone to This will be
his second year and his two year contract. Kobe Price,
Lakers reporter for SOCl News Group, hosts of Lakers Insiders
show on Bleacher Report. I want to go a little
broader here with you, Kobe through the Lakers though, meaning okay,
we keep talking about Lebron. He's here for the season
as we know it today right now at this time.
(30:00):
So is DeAndre Aid and so is Lucas, so is
Austin Ris. Kind of that being the core that ain't enough,
I say, to really compete in the West. That has
gotten even stronger, that was already strong last season has
gotten even stronger in some cases with some of the teams.
So what are the realistic expectations and is there something
I'm missing a move that can We may have a
mid level exception, a guy out there we don't know about.
Speaker 8 (30:23):
I mean right now, I mean the Lagias are almost
in a very similar position as they were in last season.
You know, yes, they won fifty games, yes, they were
the three seed, but they were tied with a few
other teams for the three seed and spots. I think
six through six and seven were forty nine win teams
and seven and eight were forty eight win teams. So
(30:43):
even though they were where they were at, they weren't
that much better compared to the few teams that were
below them. And I think they're in a similar spot
if you ask me right now. I think regular season
standings wise, they're you know, they were. I think the
best case scenario for them would be either being a
three seed and four and having home court advantage in
the first round of playoffs like they did last season.
(31:04):
And I think if things didn't work out as smoothly,
you know, it could be somewhere as low as a
sixth seven, possibly have to make it through the playing again.
So I don't think, you know, there's the Lakers know,
I mean having conversations with you know, people with knowledge
of their thinking, like they know there's still work, more
work to be done, even if nothing more happens from
(31:25):
here until they started training camp in a couple of
months and a half two and a half months, Like
they know there's more work than needs to be done.
They know that they need to address their the winging
spot and getting you know, a better defensive oriented, defensive
minded wings. I mean, and I was gonna say, I
mean the mid level set is taking up the best
(31:45):
kis sing narrow for them honestly, is through a trade.
I know that Andrew Wiggins trade roomors have you know,
picked up and then cooled off throughout the summer. But
I think for a real high impact level addition, it
would either have to be via trade or maybe you know,
you get lucky with a player like Marcus Smartt you know,
if the Wizards my him out or you can find
(32:07):
or signed Gary Paid in the second Yeah, if you
you know, we wave pick Mills and like, there are
some guys available out there. But I think the if
the Lakers looks to be contenders this season, it would
probably have to come be a trade.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
All right, last thing, Kobe, just a yes or no answer.
We don't need a big thing with this.
Speaker 5 (32:28):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Magic Johnson will be in the Lakers front office now
with new ownership.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Yes or no?
Speaker 4 (32:37):
No, Okay, he already told you, Rob, I'm not gonna
be here. Yeah, he already told you that, Kobe.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Thank you so much, appreciate it, thanks for having me.
And now listen, will he have some role?
Speaker 4 (32:52):
He'll have something, I think, just because he's magicing that,
you know, the partnership with the group already with the Dodgers,
and now that.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
If Linda Rambus can have a role, I'm.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
I can't argue with If you argue, I can't argue
with you. Not only have it, she has a long time.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
The only role Linda Rambus should have is a hard
roll at lunch. Okay, that's there, you go.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Just stop now though, Just leave it at there, all right,
you brought it up earlier. You want to touch on
something when we come back. We will do that, all right,
something that you're trending about multiple days in a row,
and we're gonna share about our experiences regarding it.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
We'll tell you that next to The Couple. Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
All right, let's get to it Fox Sports Radio on
a fucking Flashback Friday. He's Rob on Kelvin and Real quick, akey, knees,
stiff back, joyce not cooperating with Some days, your body's
just like, no, this ain't the day. And on those days,
luckily there's a leave with just one pell. He provides
up to twelve hours of pain relief so that you
(34:03):
can keep moving. Use as directed. All right, let's get
to it. I'm gonna try to speed through this thing
real quick. So RG three, you and I talked about it.
Rogie three said what he said and goes on his
tire rate about Angel Reese and how he knows that
she doesn't like Kitlyn Clark, and I got confirmation that
Kaitlyn Clark jumps out. Her mom jumped in and said,
I ain't true.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
You heard.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
It becomes the whole thing, and he retweets a picture
with the monkey with her jersey. Just absolutely kind of
in my opinion, I believe yours too. I can speak
for you. Tasteless and then unnecessary. Well, Ryan Clark, who
they've had an ongoing for you throughout the year, jumps
out and just goes home and kind of backtracks to
what he says. See, this is what I told y'all.
He's been this, he's been that. I can't believe. Why's
he have to do that? He ends it with and
(34:44):
I guess he was too early. But we have to
say Rob Parker was right, Apollo. You know, I have
to apologize to Rob Parker so for what you said
about RGI three years ago. So well, I'm sure RG
three will have something to say at some point, will
be revisiting.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
And now that goes back to twenty twelve, December of
twenty twelve, when I was on First Take and today
when I saw that my friends and whatnot, and you
know about the Ryan Clark and people sending me it
and asking me you know about it or whatever, it
took me to a different place. It wasn't about vindication
or anything like that. I just wasn't in that frame
(35:22):
of mind. But I do want to use this as
inspiration to people because that was a moment in my
life where I had never been to the principal's office.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
I've been. I've worked at ESPN for eight years. I
was on that show in the.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
Beginning of Sports Debate and when it was hard to
get on that show, and it was my CYTV back
in those days, and so all of a sudden, from
that whole thing I get suspended. My contract was up
at the end two weeks, so obviously it was easy
for them not to renew me. Right, Okay, just had
(35:58):
some controversial put it all on rob so we could
wash our hands. And everybody else, other people my boss
got suspended, and people got suspended, but they didn't.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Get fired or not renewed like I did.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
And I just remember, and this is the message to
everybody listening.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
Seriously, you're going to go through stuff.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
And that was a turning point in my life. I
could have taken two roads. A lot of people I heard, Oh,
what are you gonna do?
Speaker 8 (36:28):
Now?
Speaker 1 (36:29):
You know you're not gonna be at ESPN. Your career
is over your you know what I mean? Your legacy
is like all this. And I'm like, I didn't kill anybody.
I didn't rape anybody. Like really, I was on a
debate show. We had a conversation. Okay, you could disagree
with it. I didn't do it. I never looked at
(36:50):
it that way where I felt like I had done
something so bad that I couldn't didn't feel like I
wan't going to sue ESPN. I wont going through I
wanted to work in the business. This is what I
always wanted to do. And my point to you is
you have to fight it. You have to survive it,
(37:11):
no matter how you know.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
For those eight years great.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
I tell people all the time, I had eight great
years and one bad day at ESPN.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
That's really what I had.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
I was never in trouble or suspended or yelled at
or rob what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Never? Never, So.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Things are not gonna go your way all the time.
But it doesn't mean you should throw in the towel.
And I fight for it. This is what I wanted.
I fought for this. I put him to work. They
weren't gonna take this from me. From one situation or circumstance.
(37:52):
Thirteen years later, I couldn't be in a better place, stronger,
my career year, this radio show at Fox Sports Radio.
I was at FS one when they started Undisputed. I
teach at USC, I work for MLB Network.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 1 (38:14):
I'm at the the NABJ National Association, the Black Journalists
Hall of Fame. I'm a Hall of Famer, the most
prestigious and for us for black journalists.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
Are you kidding? We celebrated you.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
My high school put me in the Hall of fame.
I'm just trying. This is all after that happened. Please
don't let something bad happened to you define you or
to deter you from from going for your dream and
and and fighting through it. I fought through it, and
(38:50):
I'm proud. I don't care what everybody are. I want
to apologize to Rob Parker with all that. That's fine.
I'm telling you. I never let that defeat me. And
here I am thirteen years later.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
Well, well again, you know we've talked privately, so she
makes shout out to you for persevering and going through it.
And I would just encourage the same thing that especially
I'm in life in general. That's applicable to anybody, any
walk of life. I don't care what your job is,
I don't care what your title is, but if you
want to make it more specific to what we do.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
You know what I learned.
Speaker 4 (39:20):
One of the first things somebody told me years ago
was oh, you ain't been in this business too. You've
been fired. That's You're like, all right, nah, welcome to
the business. I was cute you were doing that. That
was cute.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
You were doing that until you get fired, not renewed,
let go whatever They want to call it, was it.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
And that happened to me, and it was at the
at that time the pinnacle for me at the you know,
at the same spot, and I was doing the show
and things were going well, and I moved up very
quickly there. And then eventually there's a guy who you know,
just just wasn't his guy, you know, and he decided
to do the same thing. Hey, we're gonna move on.
We're not gonna renew you. The whole thing, the whole drill,
and a couple of lessons were learned. Then Number one,
(39:57):
if I could encourage people to never necessarily wrap your
identity into a place. You wrap hard work, You wrap
your into your your belief system, your integrity, your work ethic.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
That's where you you would just that's that was the
vehicle down that you were able to to, uh, you know,
be able to worry you. But that's not who you are.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
So you wrap it in your faith, your hard work,
and dedication, your network because your network does also determine
your net worth. So that's one thing I learned from that.
And also you go on to the fact that look,
you're gonna make it through everything and any movie that
you've ever liked any book, you've ever read anything, Your
favorite thing about it was the journey for that person, right,
(40:41):
It was the ups and downs. It was the thing
they went through. That's the reason why you love it.
Whether it be I don't care if it's a story
of the Book of the Bible, of this a movie.
It was the hero went down, went up, and you
love that. And part of that is going to be
their own heroic and here uh protagonist story in your life.
So we've all been there, and I've extremely bounced back
(41:01):
from there.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
You know that.
Speaker 4 (41:02):
I won't get all the details, but I've been doing
very well and I'm appreciative of my time there. It
led to things. So things can be stepping stones, you'll
be fine. Push through, persevere, keep the faith, and you'll
be I like us. It's the Eye couple.
