Speaker 4 (01:17):
Yes, let's call as well later on in the program
in case you didn't get in on any of the
other topics that we had in the first couple of hours.
The NBA ratings are in for Game one of the
Western Conference Finals, and it ain't good news.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
To say the least, no big drop uh. And is
Robgi you wanna breakdown the numbers a little bit of this, uh?
Western Conference Finals and then.
Speaker 7 (01:48):
To punch Alex in the face before we do that
right now? He just said, I can't call myself five
to seven.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
And you might be five to five? Is that even
plenty saying I don't like it. Man, That's what.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Happen because he get a couple of days off, he
come back filling himself a little bit.
Speaker 7 (02:03):
I don't want to hear about his butt naked hot
springs no more. But any event, we were texting about
it earlier. This news broke just before the show started.
Game one, of course, was last night. It was a
close game up until the fourth quarter. Oklahoma City put
the claps down and it uponly Wight went in by
twenty six points in Game one over Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Well, surprise surprise.
Speaker 7 (02:24):
Usually when the ratings come out this soon, it's because
it's a positive thing.
Speaker 8 (02:28):
Right.
Speaker 7 (02:28):
It's because, Hey, we had the biggest ratings that we've
seen in ten years, so we're gonna put it out immediately.
We want to make sure we had the good pr
out there. Not so fast on this one, Okay, sports
Media Watch put this out.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
Game one of.
Speaker 7 (02:43):
Wolve's thunder Western Conference Finals, down twenty four percent year
over year from last year's Game one, which was Dallas
and Minnesota. And it was also this is the worst part,
the least Watch Conference final game one since twenty twenty one.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
That was the COVID short year.
Speaker 7 (03:03):
If you remove the COVID years where everything was down,
twenty twenty twenty one, it was the lowest rated game
one since twenty thirteen Spurs Grizzlies. That's a terrible number, guys,
when you consider the runaway MVP on arguably statistically one
of the greatest teams of all time, going against what
(03:23):
many are calling the next face of the league.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
The ratings proved that neither is going to be the
face of the league, or at least at this point.
The less things changed because that should have been an
anticipated matchup where people should have been interested. The idea
that people tuned out of this is incredible. It really
(03:47):
is a man after last year, right right, like he
was in the Conference finals last year, people talking about
him in the same brother as Michael Jordan and An SGA.
I thought it was about SGA. No, it wasn't it
about SGA and the MVP. Everybody knew he was gonna
win the award. It was coming up and they tune out.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
It was a blow in the fourth quarter, but that
number reflects more than just people turning off the TV
sets in the fourth quarter. It's such a huge drop
to go back to twenty thirteen, really taking.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
Out the COVID year.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
I mean, that's a long time for this matchup with
these two young players and two young stars not to
get If I'm Adam Silver, I was expecting, all right,
we don't have Steph and Lebron and those guys, but man,
our next act.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
Look at what we got.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
If they had big numbers on that, don't tell me
that they wouldn't have been bragging about. The future is
bright and look at these guys and people have adapted
and they already know SGA.
Speaker 5 (04:57):
Not like it's the thunder with no body playing. This
is the MVP's on that team.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Yeah, but I think the MVP has to be envy
scene more and I think that's one of the troubles
of Like, this is his first Western Conference Final appearance,
so now it's like he's on this stage and you
kind of got to get there. You gotta build it up.
We gotta have, like I said, you gotta have the drama.
You gotta have something where it makes people go oh,
and this is like, this is another great as he
just hit a big shot for Tyre's Heliburton, right, step
(05:23):
it out on that stage. Now everybody gets to see
me when it matters. This is a musty game. Everybody's watching.
You kind of need those to build them up. And
this goes back to a conversation we were having, I believe
it was last week, and one of the things that
I think is everybody like wants parody, We want the
young stars, and I'm like, we really don't. If you
just look at the history of the league. You want
a good mixture, right, you want to have this young
(05:46):
guy Michael Jordan flying through the air, like, man, this
kid's gonna be the one.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
He's neck whoa you see him.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
But you have Isaiah Thomas battling the magics, battling the birds,
bird and magic. You have this Doctor J. Because if
you look at that whole time, it was the guys
you knew. Back in the eighties, it was Doctor J.
Snugg in a couple of finals and it was either
Magic U and uh of course Byrd. You go through
the nineties, it literally was just Jordan and then he
(06:11):
went away and it was a cane for a couple
of years. And my point is you kind of need
at Western conwege finals that consisted of Steph versus ok
see Lebron versus Anthony Edwards, meaning where you got somebody
you know?
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Uh, Luca, I think you're selling these guys short. You're
just saying this is not the old days. Every game
is on television. Now you could get if you could
get any game you want. And the old days, I agree,
you couldn't see SGA normally, you know what I mean,
on normal situations or unless it was on a primetime game.
But any fan, that's why fans aren't fans in a
(06:47):
particular city anymore. You could be a fan of a
player because I could watch every game with league pass
if I'm an SGA fan, And then aunt the argument
doesn't hold up because he was in the last year,
he was in the conference finals with a chance to
go to the finals. People know who he is, right
and say that, but he shouldn't be in anything that
should have lower ratings since twenty thirteen. Ant the ant man,
(07:13):
Like seriously, like, I get that he's surprising to me.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Here's why. Another point, I'm gonna get you that.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
This is why having those guys when I have a
KD and his Steph, right, I have a Lebron and
the Kyrie, when you have just ant SGA.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
He was an MVP. But that's it.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
And you look at okay, see, they're kind of a
college type of a team, meaning it's just a bunch
of guys that come in line changes. It's just they're
throwing them at you and they're good and they're hungry
and they're young. But I don't know them and I
don't literally mean me, but you know the average there
there's no sex appeal. They're throwing in a bunch of
players that go ten, eleven, twelve deep, and it's great
basketball and the sense that they play hard, they play
the defense, but there's no star power. But when I
(07:54):
have cast Stephan KD when I got Jordan and Pippen
when I got.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Those guys are going to be around forever, and even Stephan.
They had to at some point get on that stage
and start to win. They didn't win automatically on the beginning,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Like what you say about Caitlyn, Steph was doing something
we've never seen. So he became a super nova.
Speaker 9 (08:12):
Yea.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
But clay On a man.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
All the hooplab about him, and you talked about it
the national commercials with Sprite and all that, like, like,
he can't be a part of this if you want
to say SGA. But and to be in a game
where people don't know who he is or doesn't want
to see him play, and it's the lowest rating since
twenty thirteen, not two years ago or twenty thirteen.
Speaker 5 (08:40):
I'm done.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
I don't think we're sitting here, Rob.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
If you had Luca lebron and in the Western Confers finals,
we're not having this conversation.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
Yeah, but they're not going to be here.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
My point is at some point you're going to have
younger players come on.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
Those guys an't gonna play forever.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
And my only point is it's amazing that with all
the talk about aunt Man and Michael Jordan and all
that other stuff, and him being on this stage last year,
that they could lay such an egg on Game one.
That that's all I'm saying. I hear that's a huge
twenty a massive drop off.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
But that's why to me, you want it to be
a perfect You want it to be give you a
perfect example. You want it to be how the Celtics
handed it off to the Pistons. So I got the
old guard, a bunch of championships, Larry Bird MVPs, we
all know him, and then Kevin McHale, Rod Press, the
whole gang. It's a brand, the Celtics beating these upstar
(09:39):
Pistons for a couple of years and finally the Pistons
beat But that's compelling. I've seen him go out of
it a couple of times. Plus I see the star
parter of the Celtics and I have this Pistons team.
Then the Pistons do the same thing with the young
flying through their Jordan and Pippen and now it's like
changing of the guard. So we almost had it too early.
Meaning if Steph and the Warriors are the Western Conage
(10:00):
Final and it's a changing of the guard.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Ant's going crazy. He wins.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
It's like a passing of the torch, or if the Lebron,
you know, and he passes the torch down the Ant.
We just kind of had it where it's just four
young stars. Brunton, Halliburton, Sga ant Man. You never have this.
You got somebody, you know. I got a Kobe, I
got a Dirk, I gotta Dwayne Wade, I got a Lebron.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
This is four new guys in this big you gee
what I mean?
Speaker 1 (10:25):
You are usually if you look at the history, you
have a two at least two are staple.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
But but the only thing is I hear your point.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
But the MVP and a guy who was there last
year who they were talking about, Michael Jordan with for
that to be not to be attractive, and I'm not
saying they had to be better than last year or whatever,
twenty four, it can't be that number. And you can't
take out COVID and say it's the worst number in
more than a decade, more than a more than a decade.
(10:56):
You can't tell me every matchup was great, you know
what I mean that they had to be some other
matchup that wasn't exactly what people wanted.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
It's just stunning to me.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
You're about to here's the problem, Rob, you get Pacers Thunder,
were gonna be right back here with Rob z Gyllo
breaking news right before the show.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Can you believe it?
Speaker 1 (11:14):
They're down twenty two percent for the first game of
the NBA Finals Nicks and timber Wolves. Because you mentioned
it and you got New York and wow, this is amazing,
and everybody, even if you are at a Nick fan,
you're just happy.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Why this is kind of cool to see that, you
know New York.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Now to mention, as we always talking about, New York
has a gazillion people there.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
I think you're gonna have something different.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
But if you get Pacers Thunder now basketball, that's probably
gonna be some good basketball being played, the actual gameplay.
But I think that might be a snooze face ratings wise.
So I'm just thinking I think we're heading towards that
right now. Again, because usually, just to reiterate this last point,
usually you have some main stays, right you had, uh,
(11:59):
like I said, said shaking Kobe for so many years,
So no matter who they are playing, all this new
two thousand and four Pistons. But your new shacking Kobe,
you had Dirt went to a couple, You had these
main states, Steph went to what five to six of them?
Now you had these main states for so long, even
historically in the NBA, where there's always a new upstart
that gets the baton pass to them. Right now, ain't
no but but Tod passing seventh year in a row
(12:21):
with a new champion gonna be and four young upstart stars.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
But even then, to your point, I just I just
think people haven't bought into Celtics. People haven't bought into
that these guys are the next guys. Maybe it is Wimby,
maybe it is you know. That's the way I look
at it. I look at it as that they're not
(12:45):
the ones because you know, like I saw Kobe in
his first playoff games shoot air Balls.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
I mean I watched it. I wanted to see Kobe
in the playoffs, do you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (12:56):
I know he had star other star players, but the
idea that a chance for ant Man in particular, who
didn't get there last year, this is the progress, right
and you just talk about him one year you're there
and then you know you don't win and then the
next year you come back and then you finally get
over the hump, and he could get there. He gets
(13:16):
to the finals, you know what I mean, especially after
the big trade of Cat being traded away. You know,
you look at his natural progression. That should be an
interesting story for people to want to see, and it's
surprising that it's that bad.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
There's no star power in that Thunder team.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
I mean, Sga is a very wonderful, sweet young man,
very unassuming. There is no star power in that Thunder team.
I mean none. Jaylen Williams an All Star? Just call
him an all because he ain't a star. He ain't
All Star by way of good player and all that.
The team was the number one seed in the NBA.
(13:54):
I get that, that's why you usually get some extra votes.
But they have no star power. Just call him an all.
I ain't an All Star.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. And does the
NBA have a parody pro problem? Do they have a
parody problem? And do the Game one ratings show that
neither Sga or am Man is built to be the
face of the league. I just I just can't imagine
(14:21):
some other up and coming star who people are talking
about and they rank social media and all that kind
of stuff, And no one did watch the game, the
matchup or Game one to at least see these two
young stars go at it. We'll continue that conversation next
with you. It is the Odd Couple, Rob Parker Kevin
Washington right here on Fox Sports Radio, Stick and Stay America.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Rob Ge, this doesn't sound like Christian song, That's what
he said, Alex, What does that mean?
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (15:03):
Do us thout put us down in a boxes?
Speaker 5 (15:06):
Sometimes you're hard for the mandam stairs.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Yeah, don't we hold up? Pause, don't don't be putting
us in a box, Rob g. We can, we can.
We can spit to anything. You ain't listening to these
young spinners lately. This stuff Fox Sports Radio. I couple,
He's Rob, I'm Kevin on a worship Wednesday. For over
forty years, tire Rack has been helping customers find the
right tires for how, what and where they drive. Shit
(15:29):
fast and free back by free Road has a protection
with convenient insulation options like mobile tire installation tie rack.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
The way tire buying should be.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
We're talking about the low ratings, twenty four percent drop,
the lowest rating since twenty thirteen, if you take out
the twenty twenty one es we dig hovid.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
Years let me sir, twenty thirteen.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
And my quick point was just to reiterate I was
saying it should be you kind of need that that
that baton pass where you have if it was Steph
in the Warriors versus Edwards in the Western conf Final
and they be the Warriors, you kind of have everybody's
watching you kind of see the change on the guard
Rob saying it should be better than that, especially if
it's supposed to be possibly the next face of the league.
(16:10):
It should have been that low eight seven seven ninety nine.
On Fox Take you calls what we got.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
Zach and Idaho, you're on the eye, You're on the
odd couple of Fox Sportsuady. I want to say, ready, yeah,
I did want to say that, Hey, Zach, what's up?
Speaker 8 (16:23):
What so guys? Hey, first of all, first time calling it.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
I love you guys, appreciate you appreciate that pretty much
every time since you got on.
Speaker 8 (16:31):
Calvin Man, thank you guys. You guys cracked me up.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
Man, thank you buddy.
Speaker 9 (16:38):
So yeah, I was actually literally having this conversation with
my buddy the other day.
Speaker 8 (16:41):
I was telling him, Man, I love this changing of
the guard. I love competition. I love the new people
coming in. I think it's great.
Speaker 9 (16:50):
He hates it, but I think he's more mad because
he's a Pistons fan. So you.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Said he's a Pistons fan, I should be all right,
There'll be all right, they're coming up.
Speaker 9 (17:01):
Yeah, he was up there in Michigan. I actually just
visited him last year.
Speaker 8 (17:04):
So he's a he's Yeah, he's happier, but he's also
mad at the Knicks.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
The next kick, they keep winning, they keep on winning,
all right, Zach, appreciate it ahead.
Speaker 9 (17:16):
Yeah, you guys want to hear a good story about
the Knicks, man, I.
Speaker 8 (17:19):
Think this is great, great short story.
Speaker 10 (17:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (17:22):
Yeah. So, uh, my son sound a hat at the
park about a month ago, brand new, cleanest fresh Knicks
hat kids hat.
Speaker 8 (17:31):
He's been wearing it. We've been watching the games together. Man,
I'm I'm beout picking up a pizza.
Speaker 9 (17:35):
Right now, we're gonna go home and finish the game. Man,
It's it's great. I'm getting him in. He's five years old.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Man, that's cute.
Speaker 9 (17:42):
He's loving it and he's loving watching them win. So
I'm a I'm a Warriors fan myself, but now it's
all Knicks.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Baby, that's a nice story. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
How did that hat blow all the way from the
Empire State Building, Idaho?
Speaker 5 (17:55):
That's all I want to know.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
You know, we've been have some storms in the middle
wet and Midwest, so baby, so maybe it just flew
out the way there.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
Crazy.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Thanks for the call, Zach, thanks for listening. How about
Frank in Denver? You're on the eye couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up, Frank?
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (18:10):
How are you?
Speaker 10 (18:12):
God? Hey, listen. I think if that game is on
Friday night on Saturday Saturday.
Speaker 9 (18:20):
Afternoon, they would have had better ratings because I think everybody,
not everybody.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
But Frank, Frank. Frank? Are you eating beans? And Frank?
Speaker 9 (18:29):
Right now?
Speaker 5 (18:30):
What you do?
Speaker 9 (18:31):
Right?
Speaker 5 (18:31):
You eat Frank's and beans?
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Shoy?
Speaker 8 (18:35):
Listen.
Speaker 10 (18:36):
Women like going to the sports barge, but that nation
women are the gossip.
Speaker 9 (18:42):
So this puff daddy thing is well that's the.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
Reason why the ratings are so low.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
They're so caught off. Okay, no, no, no, no, no, who's
soccer today? Soccer?
Speaker 1 (18:52):
I need that clips and that to me, I've heard
it all right, Parker Diddy has affected.
Speaker 5 (18:59):
Because the women like the gossip.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
So that's so like I was gonna watch that thunder
Wolves gang, but you know that Diddy.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Let me just say this.
Speaker 7 (19:08):
As wild as that A to B was, I cannot
say with a straight face it was more wild than
Caitlin Clark hard foul Angel Reese.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
You know, Ryan Clark got a white baby mama, Like that.
Speaker 7 (19:21):
Seems more The Diddy thing seems more plausible than the
other one.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
You're saying, dudes, gossip being out here in these streets nowadays. Man,
what in the world and you sit? Okay, Rob, you
mentioned it ear wew you got Ryan Clark got to
put post on Instagram and Twitter?
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Hey, you like it's Drake Line. I wouldn't hide my
baby bells. Did you see he got blocked by all?
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Yeah? I did you know?
Speaker 5 (19:43):
Rob?
Speaker 2 (19:43):
This is all your fault if you think about it,
that is you started it is. It's like the bread
crumb lead back to you.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
Oh, what did I do?
Speaker 2 (19:52):
You started? This was twenty twenty, Yes, twenty twelve, you started.
The narrative had raised that good since then.
Speaker 7 (20:00):
Before that, he was the rookie of the year, the
hottest things in sliced bread. And then Rob Parker says
one word about him and it follows.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
In for the rest of his life's Urban Dictionary.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
I mean, I told you the first text first. Take
all those ratings in the early days. I keep getting
text messages, Hey man, love the show. You guys are great, Uh,
Tail Rob, he might have been negro Domas. That's all
I'm saying about that.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
I'm just blown away at what occurred over the last
forty eight you know, thirty seven hours.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Blown away.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
I just think once, you know, once his wife RG
three's wife was brought up in the whole nine yards,
and that's why Ryan Clark was.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
Open to that, uh.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
And and why all these NFL players who all of
a sudden, I guess knew you know what I mean,
and they were quick to go and be like put
it out there. You know, your old radio partner Marcellus
was one of the guys Le'Veon bell.
Speaker 5 (20:59):
Who else was it?
Speaker 2 (21:00):
You said? That's Bryant. There were more too. Those are
just the ones that got the most like retweets. Season.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
I didn't see everything, so when you say there, they
were just like jumping in the mix to be like
like defending argy, like you know what I mean, Like
what was just.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Trying to point out the I guess hypocrisy.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
Yeah that you're talking about having a white woman there,
but you got a baby with a white woman, like
and I get it, I get I get it.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
And again it's all Rob Parker's fault and the words
of Forrest Gump. It's all I have to say about that.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
But at least it was an original tweet for a
change by Marcellus.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
It wasn't off for somebody else's thing.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Oh I'm sorry, it was actually let do that. I'm
sorry now I told you my phone growing up. Now
I gotta do it. Hey man, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
And this is this is what I just what did
I tell y'all yesterday? Replay what I said? You lucky,
It ain't Martin Luther the King day. I've a dreaming
one day, brothers with stuff going on, Brothers on, brothers
and brothers.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
And brother crime. Don't get me started right now. Hey,
the Knicks, we were talked about this a little bit.
Speaker 9 (22:03):
Man.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
There might be a reason why some folks who want
them to lose. We'll tell you what that is right now,
Manci Belos.
Speaker 3 (22:09):

Speaker 1 (22:21):
Rob, I think we might be not the odd couple
on this. We might be on the same page. The
Knicks fans are going to be beyond First of all,
let me back there. I have already been obnoxious, But boy,
oh boy, are they gonna be crazily obnoxious if they
were to win this series. Man, they have historically been
(22:44):
wild fan bases, but man, the East Coast, Philly, Knicks, Boston,
they get away with a lot that I don't know
other people will get away with when it comes to
the fan bases and stuff they get to do. The
Knick fans were going crazy, climbing up billboards, beating people
over their head with trash because they want to conference semifinals.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Rob the conference Simmis.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
I get the excitement because they defeated the defending NBA change.
I get okay, So I get like because that's the
one where nobody thought they'd be able to get over
that home. So I get that excitement, but there is
a degree where you can be obnoxious to where other fans.
I get it.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
They haven't won a championship since nineteen seventy three.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
That's a long time for a massive you know, it's
the Knicks, the news.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
That's a long time. Now. They've been to the finals.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
It was, you know, in nineteen ninety nine, and they
also won in nineteen ninety four, so it's not like
they haven't been there ever or something that was like
the Lion's never been to the super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Don't look at me and say that. I'm just saying no, no,
they look at me. Now, you have to look at
my eyes.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Like Lions fans were getting a little ahead of themselves
as well, especially last year forty nine when that was
the one. Yeah, but last year two they figured, okay,
we're at home, won fifteen games, we're not and a
half point.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Crush, So robbing the back of your head the defense that.
Speaker 4 (24:06):
There's still they were still not and a half point fire.
But like, like I'm serious because they thought that they
could still outscore Washington.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
Completely Agreeab, that's imagine. But you know what I mean,
pick anything like where you go? You had a built
any squ you up, all right, I'm if this happens
that up twenty seventy ten, Rob, I believe it was.
That's the one where you're going. Remember everybody, how many
people were texting you. I already booked my vegas.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
I told people that, Okay, they were booking tickets and
all that kind of stuff in hotels.
Speaker 5 (24:33):
I said, wow.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
But anyway, my point is so I do get like
part of it, but it's over the top and it
will make other fans like root against the next not
that they have an interest in the patients or anything,
just that they think, yeah, I don't want to do
oh my god, if they go to the finals, my god,
what it'll just be unbearable, you know, Like you like
teams for a long time. When the Dodgers had once
(24:57):
in nineteen eighty eight, people enjoyed that, you know what
I mean, Like the Dodgers all blue blood, they hadn't won.
The Yankees haven't won in a while, you know, and
you like, I don't have to Yankee fans be quiet,
y'all haven't won since old.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Niager fans, Laker fans quick crying, y'all get everybody, You
get a D you get Luke and I you got
you know, so you get that.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
But yeah, these Nick fans, man, it's over the top crazy.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
I'm New York and I've covered the Knicks as a
beat writer, as a columnist.
Speaker 5 (25:25):
I just told you I was at a lot of
big games at the Garden.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
It's a great place to watch basketball, and fans have
been there even through all those years.
Speaker 5 (25:33):
There ain't no.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
Empty seats at Madison Square Guarden. Okay, people still paying
top dollar to go to games. It's incredible, and.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
I'll get it.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
Incredible and you know this, I've never been I'm puzzled.
But yeah, I've never been to a Nick game in MSG.
I've been in MSG for uh March, Madden and stuff
like that. Never mea But you know, just even at
the coll you can tell they love the game. They
know bast key ball, you know what I mean. They're
(26:01):
not there just because it's cool. I got a Nick.
I would have looked cool in the MSG. I'm gonna
you know, it's gonna be a big game. They know basketball.
So they're great fans in that regard that they're there
to supportive and I'm a big believer the NBA is
better than the Nicks.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Of this is great.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Obviously, you and I have been watching. We got the
TV up here with no audio, but I can already see.
You can literally see. Nobody was sitting down the entire
first quarter. Everybody's in there. Stars are in there, and
it's crazy because you think of Hollywood and the stars
Nick games have way more celebrities. Everybody's there, man, and
the energy is crazy. But I'm like, all right now,
you ain't gotta beating up dude because he got a
(26:35):
Pacer jersey on, beating him over the head with trash.
You ain't gotta be going crazy like they do.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
They just they take it a little too far.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
It's like to me, and I'm gonna just say this,
and I would expect that in Philadelphia, That's what I said. Philly,
Boston not so much. I was surprised that, you know
how bad that was in New York. And I get
the guy. I don't know. I can't believe he's there
by hisself with a Pacers jersey on him. Is that
a plant or something.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
It's like, like, like what experiment?
Speaker 4 (27:01):
What would happen if youel like, man, why weren't you
there with a couple like seriously one a lone person
with a PACER's jersey on?
Speaker 5 (27:09):
Then that seem weird to you. I'm serious. The first
thing I thought about was where's his friends? You know
what I mean? Like he should have had friends. I
just didn't understand it.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Yeah, it's what now again, I don't know if he
was I know, he had a chance to speak with
Pat McAfee, so could pull up and get a chance
to hear what he had to say there. But so
I don't know if you know, you know this New York.
I'm gonna walk home now because that's just what we do.
Go up a few blocks, go, you know, maybe walk
to the train whatever. But I just know at least
dozens it looked more like at least one hundred two
hunred people just follow him around like that had to
(27:40):
be scary.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
As he and so to the tune of if they
win this.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Series and they go back to the finals first time
in twenty six years, forget about it. Forget about it,
They're going crazy. THEIRK celebration is gonna be as if
they won the NBA Finals that I tell New York
down just to go to the game one of the finals.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
I agree with that it would be like of that
proportion because people have been dying for this team.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
It's just been so bad.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
And then you got to remember all the great players
who didn't want to play there. They got a really
bad owner, you know what I mean, And so a
lot of people just didn't want to go to the Knicks,
didn't want to play with them.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Yeah, and what you got that quote what he said.
Speaker 7 (28:20):
Yeah, Well, you know what's funny about is the full
context is he went to MSG after the Knicks beat
the Celtics. This was not a pacer right right, And
so he said afterwards the Matt McAfee after the whole
experience quote, I don't know if I can go into
the mob, but I go close by and feel the
energy get ready for the series, makes the series even better.
(28:42):
I think now he regrets getting close to the energy.
Speaker 5 (28:45):
But did he have to wear a PACER's jersey?
Speaker 4 (28:47):
I mean he did kind of call for a little
like seriously, like like seriously, you could go there and
just see what it's like. But this is a like
I would tell anybody, do not go to an Eagles
game with a Cowboys jersey on, like or Ormands Giants,
you know, right, Dodger like, like, don't do it.
Speaker 7 (29:05):
I went to a Broncos Rams game in Denver, and
now I'm a Raider fan, right, so I'm not gonna
wear any Rams gear.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
I'm not gonna any Broncos gear.
Speaker 7 (29:13):
But I'm also not dumb enough to wear my Raiders gear, right,
So I just wore a black jacket, just walked in,
blending with the crowd. And if someone says anything slick,
I'm just here from watching game.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Let me let me if you had on a Raiders,
people would have given you a would have given you
the business.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
What do you so? All right?
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Is there a point when it is what it in
a utopian perfect world, kumba y'a world, what it's supposed
to be meaning, because we're I'm trying to say this poletely,
we're in an era where you're not allowed to speak
truth in facts, meaning like, hey, don't go do X,
because yes, technically you should be able to, but that
ain't smart what we're saying here, Yes, you should be
(29:53):
able to wear a pacer Jersey. You should be able
to walk around the streets in New York after big
win against Boston.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
But it ain't smart. You're not allowed because it they
call it.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
They call it victimizing the victim, like meaning he should
have been able to wear it?
Speaker 2 (30:04):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (30:05):
Do we get to a point where we're on that side, like,
hey man, he should have been able to wear youry.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
No, like there's common sense.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
I just yeah, I'm over hot.
Speaker 5 (30:11):
Like you gotta know better, You gotta know better. What
are you doing?
Speaker 4 (30:15):
Like you know that the Knicks are going to play
the pacers if to get the energy you you you're
there because you believe they're gonna play the pacers.
Speaker 7 (30:23):
Right, It's like, oh, did you hear about that guy
who's robbed that gun point in the back alley in
New York at two am?
Speaker 5 (30:27):
Exactly what do you do?
Speaker 1 (30:30):
I tell people how to tell, Yes, you can where
all ten thousand dollars worth of your jewelry and go
to a certain gas station at two am and pop
out and flat. But you shouldn't. And you know people
are at your victimized. He should be able with your
victimized the victim. Man, Listen, I'm trying to keep you safe.
You get your home and everything, because I know this
utopian world. But sometimes you just can't even if you
(30:51):
you would like to.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
Even though you want to.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
You know, you want to save time and get money
from the ATM so that you don't have to do
it in the morning. Four am is not the time
to go to the ATM because you're trying to save
time tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
Believe he just pulled up in a blast. He hit
me with a with a little uh bat in the
back of the hay.
Speaker 5 (31:09):
Right like like like seriously, what.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Are you doing?
Speaker 1 (31:12):
And we all agree is wrong, but it's just not
sound advice to tell somebody to do that. Last Call

You know what, But That's what I'm saying. He had
to get it from somewhere else. They don't even you

any inventory. Like you go in there and literally they're
paying rent.
Speaker 8 (32:52):
You know.
Speaker 7 (32:53):
After you tell me that story, I looked it up
and apparently what they're doing is on purpose. They're saying
that they're sold out to drive up the demand.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Diculous.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
No, got no money right now, y'all. There's hard times
out here for a lot of people. No, but they

something to get because Dubai got some rollies. Yes, Monty,
uh that I don't know. That's well. I learned something
new here. I am all excited. Hopefully one day gave
(33:21):
me a green face. Apparently not you say, say.

Speaker 11 (34:40):
Well, what I.
Speaker 8 (34:41):
Want to say.
Speaker 10 (34:41):
I was listening to y'all talk about the rivalries and stuff. Man,
I'm a big forty nine er fan, so I go
to Dallas all the time. But and you know, so
I don't care. I wear my gear and I walk
through Dallas. We own that city anyway, you know that's like, uh,
you know, we own it.
Speaker 5 (34:54):
But the Cowboy fans, I'm assuming they're not mean or whatever.
Speaker 10 (34:58):
Right they yeah, well they get well they they can
get with her. You know, my first guy, I've been
going to games for about twenty years. Our first couple
of games, you know, they was ready to fight, and
I'm like, what y'all ready to fight for y'all won?
Speaker 8 (35:07):
They was ready to fight.
Speaker 10 (35:07):
After they won the game. Man about but I want
to sell the story about since we're talking about NBA.
I'm also a Laker fan, and so I witnessed that
sweep man back in twenty eleven. But the specialness part
about it. Of course we lost, and man, my dad
took my mom and you know, that was her first
NBA game, you know, you know, wrest her soul. She
passed away in twenty nineteen, but her energy. She loved that,
(35:30):
just being in the game she had never been. And
then when we got swept through, I got my laquer
gear on walking outside and she witnessed this, Well they
had brooms. I'm walking out the stadium and they actually
had the brooms and they actually sweeping at my feet.
Speaker 6 (35:42):
Man.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
Wow.
Speaker 10 (35:43):
Now yeah, And it was that helckle in and just
going hard at it. So, you know, but I love it.
I'm not gonna shy away from nothing of that.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Sort.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
Yeah, Jay, you know what those are stories. I'm just saying,
I've seen these really ugly physical way that's when it
goes to fight. People beating up people.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Now you know Ohio State Michigan. I saw some people
beating up an older couple because Ohio State had lost.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
But don't forget what happened was it was it here
with the Dodger giants.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Called yeah, yeah, it was all bad.
Speaker 5 (36:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
And I'm always like that, like that is just what
am I stumping you up? My thing has always been
And I will die saying this phrase.
Speaker 6 (36:22):
Rob.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
I'm always blown away that people grown men and women,
but grown men and women fight over men and tights.
Like you're at a baseball game orund a football game
and you're fighting over Joe Burrow, who literally doesn't know
you exist on earth. Because I'm a Stealer fan, And
I say, Joe Burrow sucks, and then you turn around.
(36:44):
Now he does, Man, he's the best. Sit No, he suck. Push, push,
And now my nose is broken, eyes black, and I
gotta go home to my wife, explain why my wallet's stolen,
my shirt jersey's ripped open, and I got to explain
why I'm missing the tooth because I'm over here.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Fight.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Never many tights make it make sense, and you can't
because it never will for me.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Joe Burrow don't know you.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
I can't afford to have a tooth knocked out. It's
just ain't happening. I'm not paying for the dental.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
I thought you were gonna say your eyes are always black.
They are.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
Now that's what that's racist.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
That's gotta be racist. You know what he say? Yeah,
your eyes are Wow, Rob, that's your joke. I'm using
your joke that it's always black Friday to me. Weren't
you just saying you're trying to buy a rolex and
you can't afford the tooth?
Speaker 3 (37:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (37:32):
I can't.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Struggling right, I couldn't say that. Look at it. You
have an answer for that. This is crazy. I bought
an expensive flight to do buy and I couldn't buy.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
I was trying to be honest, buy a rolex for
my business partner for our twentieth anniversary. There you remember that,
and I couldn't get it. The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon is coming up next.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
I never missed your radio show. I never hear it,
so I a missing Did you hear that?
Speaker 10 (38:05):
Mhm
